Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

I fell asleep to “Muse” the album “Black Holes & Revelations”

Friday I was busy doing not much that I remember?  We watched TV until we called it a day & went to bed.

Kim was getting a pedicure with some friends.  Timothy Wong was in town & came over to visit around 11:00 am for a bit.  Nice visit with him, I miss that guy, we’ve been very good friends since “grade 9”.

We went to my parents’ place for supper & a game of “Yahtzee” with my cousin, her boyfriend, & Rachel (Mitch’s girlfriend).  I don’t think I’ve seen my parents since my birthday at the end of January.  Mitch was at home doing some mixing or recording some music.  He’s pretty busy with that at the moment.  He’s the really smart one with that.  He took 3 cassettes from me & converted them to iTunes files, well 2/3 worked.

Today is our day of getting ready for the week ahead & watching the over rated Oscars.  It’s usually a bunch of artsy fartsy movies that win, I much more into the R rated comedies that are never nominated.

Tim & I were chatting about the push for a 20 class reunion.  There are people who want to have one & some are willing to organize or at least help organize it.  I’ve pretty much decided that I’m not a proponent of a 20 year reunion.  Tim organized the 10 year reunion which I decided I wasn’t going to it but I had a good excuse.  I had brain cancer.  Worst excuse EVER!  If I get brain cancer again this year & there’s a reunion, then we know what caused my brain cancer in 2008.  Hahahahahahahahaha!

BARENAKED LADIES

My uncle Kent lent the little yellow cassette to us.  He was in Ontario & Barenaked Ladies were selling the cassette out of the back of their vehicle after a show.  I listened to it on a Walkman!  Barenaked Ladies were my first concert in 1992.  I was 12 & my brother was 5.  Our immediate family went, all 4 of us.  A band from Regina, Saskatchewan opened the show, The Waltons.  Barenaked Ladies raved about how delicious Houston Pizza was during the show.  Their first full length album “Gordon” was released that year, & I loved it & still do.  I haven’t missed a Barenaked Ladies show in Regina since.  Just saw them in November, on tour for their album “Fake Nudes”!

Here’s more recent stuff!

Nothing like having the drummer sing a guitar solo!

New Tremonti album to be released in June!!!!!

Are they paying royalties to “Thin Lizzy”?

http://loudwire.com/are-metallica-working-on-new-branded-whiskey/

Drummer, Lars Ulrich of Metallica, has stated that there will be no reissue or remix of the album “…And Justice for All”, you know what that means?  Wait & within 5 years there will be a “…And Justice for All” remastered version out!

I’m starting to enjoy some Metallica honestly, but Lars has contradicted almost everything he’s said publically, sometimes even the next day”

Facebook keeps telling me to “Boost my Posts” for $4-$13 so more people will see it.  I’m not making any money from this blog, so I’m relying on you to share any & every post on Facebook (publically) or email please!

Friday ended with us getting ready for Saturday.

My family, including Sherry & James, came over for pizza & Kim made carrot cupcakes.  I had no plans to have a birthday celebration this year.  Corey & Jolene’s daughter, 4 year old Hannah, asked “auntie” Kim if I was having a birthday party & if she was invited.  So I had a birthday party.  Hannah helped me blow out the candle on my cupcake after pizza.

I was considering a carrot cake from a bakery with “My Little Pony” on it for Hannah, so I know she’d like it.  It will taste the same no matter what’s on it!  I figured “As long as Hannah has a fun time”.

My birthday wasn’t really on Saturday, it’s on Tuesday but I can’t really drink multiple Guinness beer & Electric Cherry beer on Tuesday.  That’s when I exercise, back to the grind tomorrow & perhaps some fish tacos somewhere close for supper.  I don’t need anything fancy a pint of beer & some fish tacos is more than good enough for me!

Today is just getting ready for the week, boiling eggs, making a veggie juice, Kim has gone grocery shopping, etc.  Pretty normal Sunday for us.

Fall Out Boy – M A N I A

I like this album.  I don’t love it & I don’t hate it, I like it.  I would never consider them as a “rock” band.  More as a guitar based pop band.  If you’re looking for a rock band, you’re at the wrong place.  Their first album just suddenly appeared in my iTunes music years ago.  They use a lot of samples from older groups, at least on their last 3 albums, including this one.  I’d prefer a band that performs the song & play with a recorded backing track made by someone else, that’s probably why I don’t listen to rap music.  I’d give this album 3/5 stars.  The album is only 10 songs long.  I prefer longer albums of 12 or more songs, unless it’s “Dream Theater” or “Opeth”, then 5 songs that have a few songs around 8 minutes & 20 minutes.

Singer, Patrick Stump, explains the song writing process in “Fall Out Boy”

https://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/see-fall-out-boys-patrick-stump-break-down-cinematic-new-song-church-w515942

I don’t know of any album release dates other than “Myles Kennedy” his solo album “Year of the Tiger” on March 9th.  Lead singer for “Alter Bridge”

Jack White has banned cell phones at his concerts.  Here’s my slightly different approach.

Cell Phones.  Turn it to vibrate, keep it with you for emergency. Warn people before the show (like in movie theaters). If it vibrates, step out to receive the text or call. If the musicians see your phone on they should stop, since you’re busy with your text or email, until security tosses the person out. I wonder what people did before cell phones? Right they went to a concert & enjoyed it for the memorable experience!

My friend from grade 9, Mr. Timothy Wong on cello!  We’ve always kept in touch.  BFF!

If you can’t keep it in your pants they’ll take it away! (Pun intended).  Male or female!

Dag Nam it!  I’m old, or young to some.  I graduated high school in June of ’98 (20 years ago).

So in the past week we saw “Rush”, “Slayer”, ”Elton John”, & “Neil Diamond” retire.  “Elton John” might continue recording but not tour?  That’s gonna be one rocking retirement home someday!

I fell asleep to “Corrosion of Conformity” album “No Cross No Crown, followed by “Kelly Clarkson” the album “Meaning of Life”, followed by “Chevelle” the album “Sci-Fi Crimes” & finally “I Mother Earth” the album “Dig”.  Takes me a while to fall asleep, unlike Kim she falls asleep about 15 seconds after she hits the bed.

I exercised to “Fall Out Boy” the album “M A N I A “, followed by “Halestorm” the album “Live in Philadelphia”.

150 pushups a day should count as cardio.  My heart beat goes through the roof & I’m out of breath.  I roll onto my side just to catch my breath!

I always ask myself this question.  When I was diagnosed with brain cancer was God testing me or was the Devil trying to kill me?  Much like the extreme black metal bands in Norway.  Why burn down a church because Christianity is forced upon them?  You can’t kill religion, as far as I know?  I’m religious but I don’t go to church.  Does that make me a bad person?  I don’t think so.

Does listening to hard rock & metal make me a bad person?  I don’t think so.  Why do I listen to mostly rock/metal?  Mainly because of the music.  When I go to a rock/metal concert I know I won’t be judged.  It’s a small niche market where outsiders tend to go.

All through high school I didn’t fit in with any group.  I hung out with 3 other guys & the 4 of us didn’t really fit in with any other group.  We were the self-named nothings.  That was OK with me.  Timothy Wong & I also hung out with Fay & Jan.  Those 2 groups made me feel accepted.  They’re all great people.  Timothy & I have been really good friends since grade 9.  Fay and I have known each other since kindergarten.  Fay introduced Tim & I to Jan early on in high school (probably grade 8 or 9).  I hung out with people who didn’t judge me. Tim, John, Guy, Jan, & Fay.

Members of “Tool” say they don’t put their music on digital platforms because it would be too easy for the consumer to manipulate the files to only the songs they want to hear.  That’s weird, I can do that with all of the “Tool” albums I have on CD.  Everybody is streaming or downloading music now.  Does this mean “Tool” will make the jump to releasing their next album on digital platforms, streaming sites & iTunes?  Will it be a CD/vinyl because of the artwork & import it to iTunes?

Looks like “Slayer” is done also.

http://loudwire.com/slayer-lamb-of-god-anthrax-behemoth-testament-final-tour/

Unfortunately I’m not a big Slayer fan.  I’d be there for Lamb of God & Anthrax

Neil Diamond is retiring too.  Seems like out with the old & in with the new.  “Rush”, “Slayer”, & “Neil Diamond”.

https://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/neil-diamond-retires-from-touring-due-to-parkinsons-disease-w515759

Toronto Blue Jays short stop is 33 years old now.  He’ll make $20,000,000 this year & next year.  2020 & 2021 he’ll make $14,000,000 & $15,000,000.  The young (19 years old) short stop in AAA ball will be ready in the middle of 2019.  If they can’t move Tulowitzki’s contract, platoon them at short stop.

Josh Donaldson (32 years old) the third baseman has 1 year at $23,000,000.  I’d sign him for the 2019 season, maybe the 2020 & 2021 season if he agrees to play first base or another position in 2020.  They have another Top 10 prospect in the AAA system who should be ready in the middle of 2019, might as well platoon them as well or move Donaldson to first base.  It’s not my money, so it could be a pipe dream?

I fell asleep to “Foo Fighters” the album “Wasting Light”

I exercised to Kim watching TV.

This is late.  I just didn’t want to get out of bed.  I woke up shortly after 8:00 am & finally got my butt moving at 10:00 am had a quick bite to eat & then exercised.  I thought things would get easier as I did them more?  I sweated profusely today though, doing the same exercises as yesterday.

I’m pretty sure these will be posted later on in the morning since I’ve added more exercises.

I’m not the hero or victim in this cancer nonsense.  My family, Kim’s family, & our friends are the heroes.  I would never be able to get this far on my own.  If Kim wasn’t working, we’d really be hooped.  She works, I exercise.  There’s no income for exercising as much as possible.  Our immediate families are very important to both of us.  James, Sherry, Mitch, Rachel, & my parents are all in Regina.  If we need help of any kind that they can help with, none of them think twice about helping us out.  Our friends in Regina are the same.  If we need help, they’re ready & on call.  No offense to anyone, Mitch & Kim are my phone a friend peeps.

When I was acting like a complete idiot, Mitch put me in my place.  Kim wasn’t very happy at that time either.  I didn’t see it because I wasn’t thinking about anyone else or how my behavior was affecting others.

If things had turned out differently & I had died, many other people would have died on the inside.  I didn’t die though & thank goodness I didn’t!  Not everyone gets a second chance at life other than cats that get 9 lives.  No I’m trying to steer the boat, with many others, in the right direction.  I’m sure we’ll run into some nasty waves along the way but with help awaiting the call, we’ll be OK.

Kim has this entire week off.  We watched 2 more movies on Monday.  Spider – Man Homecoming & Thor: The Dark World.  I really didn’t like the first Thor movie but this second one was REALLY good.  I saw Spider – Man Homecoming in the theater & I knew it was a movie I’d watch again.  Right now I’m holding out to see Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi & we may go this weekend to Pitch Perfect 3?

I’m sure A Perfect Circle will be released this year.  It could be a long wait before we hear a new Tool album.  I’ll believe it when I have it.  Danny Carey said in 2016 that there would be a new Tool album in 2017.  Their last release was in 2006 titled “10,000 Days”.  If that’s when the release is we have roughly 16.397 years to wait, if I did the math properly?  A Perfect Circle has 2 singles out already, still no release date though.

U2 – Songs of Experience.

I was a HUGE U2 fan in High School.  I have 11 albums on CD right from the 1st album 1980’s “Boy” to 2005’s “How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb”.  After that album I just assumed they had retired, until “Songs of Innocence” appeared in my iTunes.  That album was light years away from what I would consider a U2 album.  I got into them on “The Joshua Tree” released in 1987.  I (my mom) didn’t purchase it for me until 1989 or 1990(?) when I was with her at Costco & saw it there.  My mother isn’t a U2 fan, but she bought that CD for me.  I played that CD over & over & over etc. in my bedroom on my boom box at a LOUD volume.  I think my mother deeply regretted that Costco purchase.

After that album I casually bought the previous albums & kept a steady pace with future U2 releases.

The new album “Songs of Experience” I seem to enjoy it more with each listen.  I find it to be a good mix of old & new U2.  Here’s someone else’ take on it. I would never suggest a U2 album to anyone that has never been a fan of them.  If you’ve enjoyed previous albums, DEFINITELY check this album out!  Thanks to Jonny Amore & Timothy Wong for drawing my attention to this album!

I fell asleep to “Paramore” the recently released album “After Laughter”

I exercised to “Rage Against the Machine” the self-titled album

I’m 37 now, high school was a loooooooooooooooooooooong time ago.  Next year, I graduated 20 years ago.  High school isn’t something I think of very often since it was so long ago.  It was very much a clique situation.  I wasn’t a jock, “cool kid”, a part of any labeled group.  I hung out with Timothy Wong, Jonny Amore & Guy McWatt.  When I wasn’t with them, Timothy Wong & I hung out with Faye Wallenberg & Jan Wagner.  Both of those groups were pretty much unlabeled from what I know.  My high school was ENORMOUS!  I think my graduating class of 1998 was 240+?  I know for sure it was over 200 people.  I played in the school band, quit that & joined the choir.  Choir stuck as an extra-curricular activity, then I auditioned for the schools Chamber Choir, I made it!  I never expected to be on the list but I was beyond surprised!  The music program was very well regarded, one of the best in Western Canada, how did I fit into that?

In grade 11 (1997) I figured I’d try out for the baseball team, I made that too!  Another thing that I was shocked with!  I was seriously lacking in self-confidence.  I figured eventually “What’s the worst that can happen?  I might as well give it a shot.”  Achieving those 2 things were both pretty cool to me.

That was the last year I played baseball.  Playing 3B on a city league team & my high school team, I ended up throwing my arm out.  It just ached all of the time.  As much as I would have liked to play the next year, I knew I was done, just when I got really good at striking out VERY consistently.  I had one single in my last 2 seasons!  My batting average must have been .008 over the last 2 years, that’s not a good average at all.  A decent average for a 3B is around .260 or more.  I played baseball from the age of 4 – 17 so 1984-1997.  By 1996 the pitching was too fast for me, good thing I knew how to field decently to play every day.

Those were my 2 hobbies.  That’s why I watch as much baseball as possible & know a bit about music.  I may listen to rock & metal quite a bit but I’m not against orchestral music or listening to one of the many Harry Connick Jr. albums I own.

I can’t tell you where this all comes from.  I come in here, in front of my computron & just write verbal diarrhea.  Whatever pops out.  Stream of consciousness, like one of my favourite books “The Catcher in the Rye”.  I haven’t read that in years.

If you’re here strictly for the cancer news, that’s all I have for you today.

Since the release of “After Laughter” by “Paramore”, I’ve been on an intense Paramore kick, with all 5 of their albums.  This new one sounds completely different & there’s definitely a “Blondie” influence.  I’ve never been hooked on Blondie though.

Just wanted to show that I’m not the only one who hears a “Blondie” influence.

I went to see “The Proclaimers” last year at the casino.  I remember sitting there thinking to myself “I’m probably the only one here wearing a ‘Lamb of God’ T-Shirt that will be back here in 2 days to see ‘I Mother Earth”

With the Manchester bombing & all of the other garbage happening in this world, I’m thankful to wake up the next day, especially with Trump steering, arguably, the most powerful country on earth!  My thoughts go out to those in Manchester who went out to unwind & have a good time.

The world is a VERY UGLY place right now!  It’s only going to get better if we all work together.  Seems like there is hatred around every corner now.  Remember how some little picture said it takes 42 muscles to frown and only 10 or fewer to smile?  I say “Smile & Wave” more at people instead of frowning & shuffling on.  It’s an ugly “dirty world” out there, do what you can to help out someone, it doesn’t have to be a HUGE gesture.  Help an elder cross the street?

I feel sorry for the younger generation that will inherit this mess we’ve collectively screwed up.  At least we get a mood booster from Ellen Degeneres weekly!

Rockers react to the attack in Manchester

http://loudwire.com/rockers-react-manchester-concert-bombing/

I totally agree with Randy Blythe, of Lamb of God! “..the human race must do better than this..”

I’m not against any religion or atheist, believe in whatever you choose or don’t believe at all.  What religious book are they reading?  What ‘God’ would tell followers to kill others?  Why do others have to conform to the same religion as the EXTREMISTS do?  Why aren’t the other religious followers of the same religion doing what the extremists are doing?

I’m not trying to take this latest attack lightly.  If you think about it ISIS are like the carnival game whack-a-mole. They pop up, mess with your day, and go back into hiding before you can get them.  Why?  Because members of ISIS know they did something wrong!

New ‘Stone Sour’ video!!!!!!!!!!!!  Album out June 30th

Apple Music playlist of recent rock releases.  I’ve got both “Highly Suspect” albums & a few on preorder at the moment.  “Stone Sour”, “Royal Blood”, & “Nothing but Thieves”.  I really like the “Muse” single as well.  I bought the single & attached it to my favourite Muse album or else I’d never listen to it as a standalone single.

http://mixing.io/playlist/apple-music-rock-the-a-list-rock

Why so that there are more people to witness and be injured in a terrorist attack?  You need to think a step ahead of ISIS!  I don’t see adding more troops/security/police doing much unless they know what to look for.  Until our protectors change the game & get ahead, the same thing will continue to happen.   I’m not trying to say they aren’t doing as much as possible at the moment, but whoever they are, it’s time to change their/our approach.

WEEKEND UPDATE

This is me during my day, followed by music info because I want the music info as well.  If you don’t want to read it, don’t feel as though you have to, it won’t hurt my feelings.  You can read the cancer stuff, the pop culture stuff or not read it at all, it’s totally your choice & whatever you choose is just fine by me.  So don’t feel pressured to read this.

What did we do this weekend?  NOTHING AT ALL!  I don’t like sitting at home on a Friday or Saturday night but nobody we talked to wanted to play.  My mind says I’m 25 my body is more realistic at 36!  I did go to the Saskatchewan Roughrider game with my dad on Sunday.  I don’t have a handicap seat.  My father pushes my chair up 2 ramps, I go up 10 or 12 steps & our seats are right in front of us, seats 1 & 2.  Next year, in the new stadium should be even better.  About 2 steps from the main level.  The first level is built into the ground, & we’re in the top row seats 1, 2, & 3.  My mother can’t get to where our seats are at the moment so she has sold her ticket to the people beside us but has kept it in her name.  They’ve chosen to sit closer to field level in the new stadium.  Our seats should be easier for my mother to get to, so she’ll be with us!

LANGUAGE!!!!   Yes, I’ve sang this.  Not my style at all!  I prefer listening to this!

I’ll take “The Pretty Reckless” just for the song.  Full album out on October 21st.  The song by “Kaleo” is pretty good, I’ve just never heard of them before, sounds really good though.

Kaleo has 4 or 5 albums, EPs, & singles available.  Similar to Jack Johnson, just slightly heavier?  Gritty?  Nowhere near hard rock or metal.

Yes, I have “The Agonist” on preorder as well, I forgot to mention that before?  Here’s a review of the new album.

Connie Kaldor at The Exchange in Regina. Almost all of the Chemical Horizon, the band I was in until I got cancer, shows were at The Exchange. A couple of shows were at The Gaslight & The Distrikt. The Distrikt for me was pretty much the same for me as playing at Wembley Stadium for Dave Grohl. I saw so many great bands there! That was probably the most nerve racking experience for me on stage. A “Don’t screw this up” experience. There aren’t many places in Regina for original rock/metal bands to play. The Exchange, The Distrikt (which is no more), The Gaslight & occasionally The Riddel Center at the university. I guess we also played once at The Owl, the university bar, in a battle of the bands thing.

Chester Bennington (Linkin Park singer) on writing/singing with Stone Temple Pilots. I’m waiting for this album to be released this year also. I heard earlier this year they were close to being done recording the album.

I enjoy ‘Slayer’. I’d probably listen to more ‘Slayer’ if Kerry King guitar solo’s were in the right key of the rest of the group.

I’ve never heard of “Tame Impala”? Probably because they’re new, put their music on the internet for pennies & don’t tour the entire world.

New artist. I believe he was on The Ellen Degeneres Show earlier this week & I just watched him on last night Conan! Good voice with nothing but an acoustic guitar. I’d likely buy his album & rarely listen to it.

Terrible version of “Vasoline” by Scott Weiland. Yeah the same guy that sang/wrote the song with Stone Temple Pilots. Is he drunk or high or both?

I have an issue on the use of cell phones. When you see a “fail” video on youtube that’s fine, it’s hilarious. In a real life or death situation most people whip out their phone to get it on video? Who the heck stands there taking a video with a cell phone while someone might be dying? Maybe put the phone down & see if you can help? Remember, it’s a phone as well, not just a video camera.

A cover of Foo Fighters’ “Congregation” pretty good too!
