THE 1980s & 1990s ARE WHHAA?

No such thing as a stupid question!  Feel free to ask me on Facebook or the website! links are there for a point of reference if you don’t know what I’m talking about.

I fell asleep to “A Perfect Circle” the album “Eat the Elephant”

I exercised to “Ben Harper & the Innocent Criminals” the album “Burn to Shine”

Brewster setup shop on my exercise mat this morning.  I just stayed there with him to scratch his neck, he’s getting old & I’ll really miss those little moments.

Perhaps “Paul’s Guitar” in 20 years?  99.9% chance of a maybe on the off chance I’m not happy with the guitar coming in August, which I highly doubt, if this model still comes with pickups that are different than what I own, if I choose to sell a few of the guitars I own, maybe there will be something better, hopefully the price is lower than $1300 for a low end guitar at the time, in the end probably not?  There will likely be a trip within the next two years & a house hopefully within the next 5 years, so a guitar = probably not.  Remember that as long as Brewster’s OK, then the guitar MIGHT happen?  I’m pretty well off in that department even now before I get my new one in August.  Crappé it’s only March!

Regular season baseball begins on Thursday, March 26th.  I’ll be relatively glued to our TV until the beginning of October.  The Blue Jays likely won’t be in the playoffs but I predict they’ll finish the season with a record of 75W-87L or 83W-79L games out of the 162 regular season games.  I think they won 67 games last year.  The first 2 months we’re older players that gradually disappeared for younger/potentially better players to take their spot throughout the season.

We picked up some toilet paper on the weekend.  It wasn’t because of what you think.  We just like to keep our butts clean, & the shelves were full of toilet paper, that or Kim’s “Magic”!

After seeing “The Weeknd” on SNL & tours that have been announced I can confirm: the 1980s synth pop sound is coming back.

“Barenaked Ladies” are hitting the road with “Toad the wet Sprocket” & “Gin Blossoms”.  “Matchbox Twenty” are taking “The Wallflowers” with them on tour.  The Canadian 1990s & early 2000s rock scene is getting a shot in the arm with 4 bands touring Canada this summer.  “Moist”, “The Tea Party”, “Big Wreck”, & “Headstones”

I’m thinking some stairs should be happening tonight?

Today’s workout was brought to you by the letter “B”, as in Big Wreck

I avoid the Superbowl at all costs. The game is usually a side show to the commercials we don’t get through cable in Canada. Most people watch it since it’s the championship game for the NFL & for the half-time show. I’m all for the CFL but even it has been boring this year & last year. The NFL has never impressed me & the Superbowl is right around my birthday at the end of January. The half time show I’ll watch the next day on

There’s already people throwing up red flags about Bruno Mars being the half time entertainment. Fair is fair, he’s not everyone’s preferred act. Remember, you can’t please everyone all of the time!

I ask you this. What has been among the top songs of this year? Oh, “Uptown Funk” would be one of them, along with a few others. So what would you like to have as the half time entertainment? Bruno Mars is hot at the moment & will increase the number of viewers which is what the Superbowl is all about, making money for the league. Off of the top of my head you have these 3 options & maybe a few more I can’t think of at the moment….

Can anyone think of another song off of Mark Ronson’s album other than “Uptown Funk” feat. Bruno Mars? I can’t, I didn’t buy the album, I bought the song & attached it to a Bruno Mars album I already own.

What sparked this conversation? This….

I’m not the be all & end all of music. There’s quite a bit of music I know nothing about but I like discovering stuff I’ve never heard. Please teach me?

I went to Moose Jaw today around 10:30. My mother was getting fruit there off of a truck from B.C. I think it was? Brewster & I went for a “car ride”. Nobody can say either of those words around him unless he is going for a “car ride”. He gets really excited & instantly worries he’ll be left behind, as well as frantically looking for his “leash”, another word we can’t say around him. Moose Jaw is about 40-45 minutes away. After 10 minutes roughly, he falls asleep on my lap until the vehicle stops!

I guess whoever’s still letting Keanu Reeves act?

Pearl Jam play on Stephen Colbert

24 years ago Nirvana changed the musical landscape with the release of ‘Nevermind’

Still one of my favourite songs to play or listen to!!

Royal Blood performance. I think I shared this yesterday?

Our Lady Peace. I’m all about their 1st 4 albums. I do own a Greatest Hits & 3 or 4 other albums though.

This is from their 2nd album “Clumsy” which was their breakthrough album

The Agonist shared it, so here it is. They were in Regina last week on Thursday at The Exchange, I really wanted to go but I don’t go out much on weeknights & Kim doesn’t like metal.

This Muse album will be the biggest disappointment this year for me. I had really high hopes for this album. Their 2nd , 3rd, & 4th album were great studio albums as well as their 5th/Live at Wembley CD/DVD (H.A.A.R.P.) LANGUAGE!!!!!

This is from their 4th album

Here’s my favourite venue for live music in Regina! Fun to play at The Exchange & a great place to take in a show.

Muse, live fan videos

I wasn’t big on “All That Remains” when I saw them open for “In Flames” in Saskatoon

New Ken Tizzard album for $3.99 on iTunes. You’ll know him as the bassist for The Watchmen & Thornley.

I have never heard a bad cover of this song. The 2nd link is my favourite version though!

Songs I like. “Red Hot Chili Peppers” only 2 albums that float my boat.

Today’s workout was brought to you by the letter “H”, as in “Highly Suspect”. This is one of the 3 songs out of 10 without language.

My super group is already partially together, “Them Crooked Vultures”! Dave Grohl (Nirvana & Foo Fighters) drums, John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin) & Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age) guitar & vocals.

Who would I add to that already impressive line up? Ian Fletcher Thornley (Big Wreck/Thornley) & Myles Kennedy (Alter Bridge/Slash/The Mayfield Four).

Myles Kennedy would be the lead vocalist & guitar when needed. Ian Thornley would be 2nd guitar to Josh Homme. Anyone & everyone would be a back up vocalist! That, for me, would be a mind blowing line up!

Who is in your super group? I want to know more about music, who is your favourite artist(s) or Super Group?

I spoke about Green Day releasing this documentary, here’s NME’s take on it.

When I heard this as a single, I knew instantly that I didn’t need to purchase this album, it may have ended up being an album I’d buy & never listen to?

Watch Stevie Nicks perform with Foo Fighters!

Singer Bruce Dickinson hates the first/self-titled Iron Maiden album.

Father John Misty covers Ryan Adams’ cover of Taylor Swifts “Blank Space”

This song has been everywhere with the release of a new solo “Chris Cornell” album. I checked it out on iTunes & wasn’t interested in the rest of the album, nothing sounded similar to the single. However, it did lead me to his prior/3rd solo album that was released in 2009, when I was in the hospital & didn’t hear of it. I liked that album & bought it for a WHOPPING $5.99 on iTunes. In a round about way the single worked! I bought a Chris Cornell album! Maybe it wasn’t his recent release, but it worked. FYI Chris Cornell is the singer from grunge band Soundgarden as well as a previous member of Audioslave. Here’s the current single, then one song from the album I bought. These 2 songs sound nothing like Soundgarden or Audioslave.

Thanks to my mother-in-law Shirley Olson for digging this up for me!!!

Ian Fletcher Thornley audio clip from his new solo album “Secrets” to be released on October 30th

OK, I’m the total opposite of this. Maybe you are maybe you aren’t, no big deal. I’m not a fan of Arcade Fire.

When “Uptown Funk” comes on whatever I turn it up to 11 like they do in “This is Spinal Tap”

Ian Fletcher Thornley demos effect pedals by Suhr

I’m not really a fan of Jonny Depp. I am intrigued by his upcoming film “Black Mass”. I’m in the midst of watching a Netflix documentary about Whitey Bulger, a Boston gang banger who killed TONS of people. “Whitey” on Netflix, at least on Canadian Netflix.

Why does a band even have to make them anymore? MTV, Much Music, VH1, etc. don’t play music videos 24 hours a day anymore. I know Much Music plays 1 hour a day of just music videos. So why does anybody have to make a music video? Unless you go to, a Facebook page, or a website, there is a good chance you won’t see it?

What were we up to this weekend? Gerry came down from Saskatoon for his birthday. So on Saturday we went to James & Sherry’s place in the late afternoon, then Brewsters East for dinner, then back here to our place for a few beverages & a visit until 1:00am or so? Sunday, Kim went out for groceries while I watched baseball. We had supper then watched a few episodes of Scandal, 4 episodes left of the 2nd season.

I forgot to turn on the stereo for my workout. I was part way through my workout & then realized it was quiet. “Ah, the remote’s way over there. It can stay there!”. I did make a fruit/vegetable smoothie after though. I just wash & cut up what’s needed then toss it in our Vitamix blender, that usually lasts me 3 or 4 days. My kitchen music was “Dream Theater’s” ‘Awake’ album.

I’m not on a diet. I exercise & watch what I eat. If we go out for a meal on the weekend, I MAKE IT COUNT! If I’m watching baseball or the CFL I have a beer or 2 that’s all, usually it’s water, cranberry juice or black coffee & small amounts of alcohol on “the weekend”.

I still have a list of 4 albums that should be coming out this year yet no release dates at the moment. Tool, I have no idea about, it will be released when it’s done, I’m not holding my breath on that one. Coheed & Cambria will be released October 16th but I’m waiting to hear the iTunes preview before I grab it. LANGUAGE!!!

Jack White vs. The Black Keys? I’m not a fan of either, but really a feud between musicians? Does either one need press at the moment?

The Agonist will be in the Exchange on Thursday night. If it wasn’t a week day, I’d go!

Big Wreck shared a tune on facebook, here it is…..

“Ghost” has a new video. Never heard of them & I’m pretty sure I don’t need to again.

I don’t do all of the workouts everyday. I pick 2 or 3 out & do them, 420 crunches, 20-30 minutes of yoga, 40 push ups, 40 leg lifts on my hands & knees or on my back, walking with my walker, up & down stairs, or the recumbent exercise bike.

“The Weeknd” & “Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats” were released, but only the first single from each album got me interested. I don’t buy just a song. Iron Maiden out on September 4th is what I’m waiting for.

Iron Maiden touring the globe in style for 2016. New album “Book of Souls” out September 4th

I don’t smoke anything or use drugs in any way. Fighting against legalizing it is a waste of time & also not the popular choice for politicians. Marijuana smokers won’t hurt anyone. Maybe it could help the economy? I don’t follow politics since nothing has effected me personally. People will use marijuana legally or illegally which would you prefer?

I’m watching CNN this afternoon about the shooting. The news anchor asks “Why did this deranged person feel compelled to do this?” I have a different question “Why does he have a gun in the first place?” OH, right because it’s a right for every American to own a firearm. Those rights seem to be doing wonders in America. This happening on almost a weekly occasion. “Ah, there was another shooting in the USA! Oh well, I’m responsible with my firearm, nobody can take it away. Hey daughter/son let’s go to a movie, make sure to bring your gun then you’ll be safe”. At some point you would think any President would make a stand & do something about this. I expected something to happen a long time ago, but “Hey, what can you do? Crazy……….right?”. “Other Country’s are weird, they don’t have a gun on every citizen?”. You know what else we don’t have? Weekly public shootings!

DRILL THIS INTO YOUR HEAD USA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m not saying Canada or any other country is superior to the USA. Living in Canada I don’t need to think about where my firearm is, if I should ware any type of armor when I leave my house, or if I’ll be attacked in any way. I’m also not saying that every USA citizen is a gun lover, gun owner or that they’re all irresponsible with their fire arms. I’m saying that this type of thing happens far to often in the so called “Greatest Country on Earth”. For me, this not just a matter of sadness. It’s a matter of sadness, helplessness, redundancy, & now anger. WHY?

Bruce Springsteen, David Letterman, & Bill Murray make video cameo.

The music thing might not be enough for these two? Now they’re auditioning to be zombies in a future release.

Tremonti’s “Cauterize” album! If you like rock/metal GET IT!!!!!!

Songs I like, “Our Lady Peace” The first 4 albums are good, for me, there is a steady & steep downfall after the first album.

This where it gets sketchy for me, these were big hits in Canada though!

A fairly quiet music news day, actually the entire month of August has been unusually quiet.

A Million Miles Away Blog on facebook.

Give the site a moment to load all of the links. It takes a bit for my computer & it crashes on Kim’s cell.

Tuesday night, baseball, peanuts, grapes, water, & beer. Pretty good life! I don’t really touch alcohol during the week, but sometimes you just have to have a beer while watching a sporting event from the comfort of your couch.

Tuesday was my back to reality day exercise & trying to eat healthy. 420 crunches & 30 minutes of yoga. Today, 420 crunches & 40 push ups. Thursday, who knows?

Off the top of your head, how many songs can you think of that weren’t singles that made music acts huge or had to play them live at every concert? I thought of 3 B-Sides & 1 album track instantly.

I’m sure there are more but these are the 4 I thought of instantly. I didn’t cheat & use google, this is just what I thought of. Weird that the first 3 were B-Sides to singles, that means radio D. J.s either turned the vinyl over or skipped through the 3 or 4 song CD to grab a B-Side.

Barenaked Ladies just played their song at every show, got hit by a pile of Kraft Dinner & eventually told fans to bring Kraft Dinner to the concert to donate to the Food Bank.

2 of my many favourite songs by Foo Fighters are a B-side & an album track!

This “Iron Maiden” tune sounds good. I haven’t preordered it yet. iTunes release September 4th.

No albums on preorder at the moment other than Trivium & Clutch release on October 2nd for both albums.

I don’t own this since it’s a single. Both voices are AMAZING though!

Really? Bill Hader & Fred Armisen (SNL) form fake band but are releasing a 5 song EP

I guess Ian Thornley (Big Wreck) is recording/releasing a solo album? I missed that one? My bad.

Songs I like, “The Nylons” I began singing the lower/bass part along with this album when my parents moved into their house. My voice is very different now, there is no way I could sing that low now.
