Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

Music throughout the weekend.  New “Into Eternity” song from their upcoming album.  “Pentatonix”, “Into Eternity”, “Dead Sara”, “Foo Fighters”, “Matthew Good Band”, & “Queens of the Stone Age

All of the iTunes & streaming music stuff is true.  Streaming & vinyl will be the only options to get music next year.  This will likely anger musicians depending on the contract they’ve signed with their label.  Just because I think it’s utterly terrible, doesn’t mean you have to!  I just want the option to own my music.  “Here it is, cheap music……………&……………. now you can’t have it!”-Apple.  Can’t beat them join them.  BOOOOOOOOOOOO!  I plan on buying some vinyl but I will stream most of my music.  I really hope this will be a fast fading fad.  I can’t afford a ton of vinyl, 4 or 5 bands I’ll continue to purchase on vinyl, maybe more, but it will depend on finances & other stuff.

Stayed in Friday & watched the Toronto Blue Jays surprisingly beat the N.Y. Yankees!  WOW!!!!  Come July 31st they will “drain the swamp” you may not recognize many players if you follow the Blue Jays.  I think their current Short-Stop, Aledmys Diaz has earned his spot, whenever $20,000,000 Short-Stop Troy Tulowitzki (who has not played any baseball since July 7th, 2017 due to injury) should have to earn his spot on the roster.  If I had the cash I’d give him the $40,000,000 for the next 2 years left on his contract to NOT play with the Blue Jays.  He’s SO not the player he was in 2015 when they got him.

Saturday it was HOT outside.  We went to Sherry & James’ to hang out in their backyard & throw back a few wobbly pops.  Kim & I just couldn’t find a movie we were in the mood to watch.  I still had some of the Netflix TV series “Daredevil” to watch & then we just watched some of “Friends” on Netflix.  Pretty tame Saturday night after leftovers of Spaghetti & meat sauce.

Today should be fairly relaxing.  I made my vegetable juice already, we’ve got hardboiled eggs done too.  Little bit of laundry, maybe bake some fish & watch the final game of a 3 game series of the Yankees in Toronto.

THE TEA PARTY

I’ll tell you right away, I am not an expert when it comes to this Canadian band.  I’m a casual fan though.  This is one of the numerous Canadian bands from the ‘90s that has reunited in the last few years.  I think I’ve seen them twice, probably at a touring festival in Saskatoon & once for sure with the “Matthew Good Band” at the ‘Conexus Arts Center’ way back in the ‘90s or early 2000s.  I only own 5 of their albums on CD.  I purchased them long before iTunes or streaming sites were all the rage.  Apple has classified them as ‘Metal’ in my iTunes.  I would have to disagree with that statement.  Very talented band with a large influence from eastern music.

When I saw them live, there was a lot of me thinking to myself “What’s that instrument?  Or that instrument?  Now they’re switching to that instrument?”  I didn’t know the names or sounds of the instruments, but they all came together to form a familiar song.  I should also mention that they’re a trio.  Bass, drums, & guitar by the lead singer.

I fell asleep to “Metallica” the album “Kill ‘em All”

I exercised to “Stone Temple Pilots” the album “Stone Temple Pilots (2018)”

I had to clean up after Brewster, just missed his pad.  Washed my hands & had breakfast while listening to “Queens of the Stone Age” the album “Songs for the Deaf”

Exercise weekly total; 700 pushups, 490 leg lifts, 350 crunches, 210 tricep pushups, 210 squats, & 140 back flexes.  Odd week 1 day of no exercise & 1 day of half the amount of repetitions.

My father’s cousin died on Tuesday.  Kim & I would see him sleeping in his wheelchair when I was on the 2nd floor of the WRC.  He was born with Down syndrome.  Sad to see anybody die but his quality of life wasn’t that great.

We met a guy named Nick while I was in the Wascana Rehabilitation Center, super nice guy.  I’m pretty sure he wasn’t mentally handicapped but he was born physically handicapped.  He was in music therapy as well.  He recorded an album with help from the same music therapist I saw for a bit.  He played the drums on his album they made, she sang on it.  As far as the bass & guitar, I assume it was the music therapist.  I was impressed he could play the drums!  My kick drum leg wasn’t all that strong, I could get it to the kick drum, I just couldn’t keep my foot down.  It would hit the drum twice & my left hand is all but useless.  He probably doesn’t get out of his wheelchair much since he is severely physically handicapped.

He would see Kim & I in the cafeteria for lunch & always come to chat with us.  If he & I were having a conversation, Kim was our interpreter I was/am hard to understand & so was he.

He’s a really joyful guy to be around.  The rest of the people I saw & heard were very bitter about being there or whatever it was that put them there.  I was more on the bitter side of things.  I tried to keep it in.  I really leaned on Kim.

When I do my exercise “every morning”, lately, at least this year, I think to myself “Hurry up, do more, this is affecting a PILE of other people, not just Kim & I!  Hurry up & get better!”  That’s just the pressure I put on myself.  Nobody has ever said to me that I’m not trying hard enough, just me.

GRUNGE

I was born in 1980.  My parents weren’t into the GLAM metal scene going on in L.A.  It was basically a free pass, I got to choose what I wanted to hear.  Mom was into pop music & dad was into “Dire Straits”, “Jimmy Buffet” & whatever else popped up.  I do remember really liking “Fine Young Cannibals”.  I bought that CD just before I was diagnosed with brain cancer.  I was in high school when the entire “grunge” deal went down.  I was 8 or 9 years late to that party.  Now that’s my go to music.  I also played flute in the high school band & was recruited to join the choir, they needed more male voices for the 4 part harmonies.  When “grunge” was all the rage in the early 1990s, I couldn’t stand it.  I was really into Canadian bands who played the same type of music.  “I Mother Earth”, “The Inbreds”, “Our Lady Peace”, “Matthew Good Band”, “The Tea Party”, etc.  I ended up singing for what was basically a cover band.

I was at a bar with Chris Messer from the call center I worked at.  He was also a singer in a band.  He heard “Alice in Chains” playing over the P.A.  Yes, “Man in the Box” he turned to me & said “You guys should do this song.”  I replied “That vocal is very high.  I don’t know if I can hit those notes?”  After numerous rehearsals I did it!

Originally I was a 2nd bass singer, the really low notes in the 4 part harmonies in choir.  I think that song changed my vocal range.  After that song, my voice was going through a 2nd puberty.  I’d be speaking & my voice would crack.  Then I became a grunge fan.  Grunge & rock with some Metallica was what we played.

Our goal was to play “Beerfest” put on by the Engineering Society.  500 people, I found it nerve racking to play in front of that many people….for a bit.  Once we had played a few songs & we were in a groove all of the anxiety went away.  I was really into the Canadian response of grunge though at the time.  I had a lot of the grunge albums, didn’t listen to them much though, until needed.  Somehow I bought a metal, Into Eternity, album before I was into American grunge…..

We didn’t play all of the songs mentioned, that’s more of just what I was into at the time.  Our motto was “If somebody isn’t bleeding by the end of the night, we’re not trying hard enough”.  That was a weird way of gauging how the shows went.

Yes, I watched “Justice League” again this week over 2 days this week.  Critics hated it, SURPRISE!  That’s really just a fancy title for someone who gets paid to watch movies if you ask me.  I guess I would be a terrible movie critic, since I enjoy the DC movies.  Yes I like the Marvel movies too.

Is my family weird because we’ve had peanut butter & banana sandwiches or peanut butter & jam/jelly sandwiches?

Friday ended with a TON of recorded TV being watched.  I did my exercises in the morning while Kim, who had the day off, went grocery shopping.

Saturday, dad & I had every intension of going to the Saskatchewan Roughrider game against the visiting Edmonton Eskimos.  I was at their house dressed in layers and said we should just stay at my parents’ place & watch the game on the 104” HD projection screen in the basement, so we did!  Roughriders lost so we play in Ottawa for the first round of playoff games.  We went upstairs to have a delicious roast, vegetable & Greek flavoured potatoes.  I don’t eat potatoes if they’re mashed, boiled or baked.  If it’s French Fries, there had better be ketchup nearby.  Kim went to our friends place to watch the UFC/MMA fight on pay-per-view.  I can’t get into watching that stuff.

We got home late last night, around 11:30 pm, & I fell out of my wheelchair.  We had a TON of recycling in front of the closet.  I tried to reach too far & down I went into a very small area between the recycling & the door.  As I always say it’s not the first time I’ve fallen & it probably won’t be the last time.

Today is our usual Sunday routine.  We slept in, had breakfast, & now we’ll get ready for the week, & I’ll watch some more of “Stranger Things season 2” on Netflix.

MUSIC & POP CULTURE TALK

That’s a list of metal bands that is far more miss than hit, for me!

Stone Temple Pilots are back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Big Wreck at the Casino Regina February 17th 2018 to celebrate 20 years since their debut album “In Loving Memory of…”  WOOHOO!

Grunge was the cool thing in the early 90s.  I hated it, just loud noise to me.  I turned 13 in 1993.  Everybody was saying how fantastic “Nirvana” & “Soundgarden” were.  In 1992 I saw the “Barenaked Ladies” as my first concert.  Our entire immediate family went, I was 12 & my brother was 5 years old.

From that point on I was all about acoustic “rock/pop” music “Blues Traveler”, “Sister Hazel”, & “Hootie & the Blowfish”

I have 13 “Barenaked Ladies” albums on my iPod & I still listen to them.  That’s the album I have preordered for mid-November, titled “Fake Nudes”.

That phase didn’t last too long.  In 1996 “I Mother Earth” released the album “Scenery & Fish” that went triple platinum.  That & “Our Lady Peace” album “Naveed” turned me on to rock music.

Everybody at my high school was all about “Our Lady Peace” 2nd album, different strokes for most of the country other than me.  Their 2nd album “Clumsy” for me was the start of a fast & steady decline.

It wasn’t a bad album to me.  I really like their first 4 albums still, & listen to them.  I’ve got all of their 8 studio albums.  I only enjoy the first 4 though.

It was around 1996 I started getting into grunge and heavier rock albums, especially Canadian rock!

I fell asleep to “The Tea Party” the album “Transmission” followed by “Matthew Good Band” the album “The Audio of Being”

I exercised to “Big Wreck” the album “Albatross”

Exercise total for the week.

Planking random times up to 5 minutes, 150 pushups, 50 back flexes, & 250 leg lifts.  That’s 30 pushups, planking, 10 back flexes, & 50 leg lifts a day.  Next week I’ll do crunches instead of planking, I’ll alternate them each week.

I get up & exercise immediately just so it’s done & I’ve got the rest of the day to do what I can around here.

High school & SIAST graduations.  I didn’t want any part of either one.  I didn’t fight it if I remember correctly because I knew what the response would be!  “You’ll regret it if you don’t go” guess what?  I regret that I went to either.  My high school graduation date was a friend I had known since elementary school.  Figured I should go with someone I’d known for a long time, Shannon Pigotthue.  It’s not her fault that I didn’t enjoy my high school graduation!  I just wanted to get out of there as fast as I could.  If you see my grade 12 year book, I have the largest toothy grin you’ve ever seen at our after grad party.

My SIAST graduation wasn’t bad it was just incredibly long.  It wasn’t just a graduation for those in the same program as myself, it was the entire technical school/college!  It felt like it was 6 hours long!!!

If you’re here strictly for the cancer news, that’s all I have for you today.

I wasn’t & I’m still not a fan of these albums.  I didn’t grow up listening to metal or hard rock.

So when is it OK to show emotion in professional sports?  Almost every football player spikes the ball or celebrates a touchdown in some manner, & everyone’s OK with that.  1992 Roberto Alomar hits a homerun against Oakland in the playoffs.  Alomar puts both hands up in the air to celebrate, everyone’s OK with that. 1992 World Series, Roberto Alomar & Kelly Gruber come in to score ahead of whoever hit a homerun.  As Alomar comes down the 3B line to score, he copies the Atlanta Braves tomahawk motion, in Atlanta, nobody had a problem with it.  This upset’s the Atlanta Braves?  Again in 1992 Kelly Gruber catches a foul ball to end the game & does the tomahawk motion, that’s fine.  For 2 seconds, everybody put on their big boy pants & think about how much this doesn’t matter.  When he reached home plate he realized how dumb it was since the Blue Jays were still losing by 5 or 6 runs.  Are athletes not supposed to show emotion?  Football players do, so do hockey players when a goal is scored, heck soccer players rip their jersey off.  Is this that big of a problem?  Are baseball players supposed to be robots?  Is there something in the rule book that says do not show any emotion?

Sorry, couldn’t find the clip of Alomar scoring while doing the tomahawk chop.  Whatever homophobic slur Kevin Pillar (CF) yelled at the opposing pitcher after Pillar struck out, The Blue Jays organization went to task ASAP.  They suspended Pillar with no pay for 2 games, Thursday & Friday.  Pillar was part of a press conference where he apologized for what he said after the general manager flew to Atlanta & spoke first.  The Blue Jays will donate his 2 day salary to a charity.  I’m not a fan of the way he apologized, he seemed to make himself as the victim.

The new album from Linkin Park is out today!!!!!  Judging by the released singles, it sounds like a good album to relax to.  Quite mellow, in a good way!

I like kids coming over.  Kim loves it as well!  I like seeing any of our friend’s kids!  Kids really don’t care what anyone thinks.  I’m good with babysitting, then the parents get to take them home after we’ve taught them what not to do.  If I get confronted by someone who blames me for teaching their kid something I’ll reply “Oh, it wasn’t me!  What on earth are the Grandparents teaching this poor innocent child?”  I’m pretty sure I’d be a very immature father if I had my own child though.  The kid would likely grow up a little wonky?  This is my way of saying “You’re welcome”.  This could be one of my reasons for not having kids?  Be sure to watch the entire thing!

Well, no In Flames date in Saskatoon this time.  The closest to Saskatchewan they’re coming is Calgary & Edmonton.  Save my money I guess.

ACQUIRED BRAIN INJURY

I fell asleep to “Soundgarden” the album “Badmotorfinger”

Don’t feel as though you must open every link.

I have what’s called an ‘acquired brain injury’.  I don’t know of anyone else that has had my specific type of brain cancer.  It’s more common in children than young adults, that’s not cool.  I was in a program with other people who’ve had brain injuries.  We’d all get together to play games.  I didn’t get to go very often, Brewster is high maintenance & has anxiety attacks when left alone.  I’m sure there were people in the Wascana Rehabilitation Center that have experienced or future patients that will.  Sure it changes a lot of things, you just have to make adjustments yourself!  Do you have a child?  If you do, I can almost guarantee your life is different now than it was before having a child?  Life changed instantly & now it makes things slightly challenging or just different.  Nobody necessarily likes change & I totally get that.  I have a lot of help if I need it, there’s even a program at the WRC called the ABI program to help me anytime down the road if needed.  In the end, this being alive stuff sure beats the alternative!

My sciatic nerve is better, but there is still a tiny bit of pain there.  It’s still the best it’s felt since November.  I saw my massage therapist last week.  She said it was much better even before my massage.  After my massage she told me to see my chiropractor, she said I had a few ribs out of place.  I can’t feel anything out of whack in my ribs, just my lower back & a bit down my right leg.

Barenaked Ladies shared it.  Maybe they should take some time off instead of releasing an album of previous material with another group?

So I could go to Moose Jaw to see the “Offspring” a 40-45 minute drive to see a band that I’m a very, very casual fan of.  This was the first song my first band learned to play (I was but a singer at the time).

Or I could make the mind-numbing 2 & ½ hour drive to Saskatoon to see Ed Sheeran, who I really like.

I like Ed Sheeran, but I loathe the drive to Saskatoon & I’ve seen Ed Sheeran in Regina once.  Do I go to Saskatoon or hold out for ‘In Flames’ to come from Sweden to Saskatoon.

I can definitely say I don’t need to see The Offspring.  I’ve seen In Flames once or twice & wasn’t disappointed.  The sound for Ed Sheeran in Regina was dreadful & everybody watched 75% of the show through a cell phone.  Kim would prefer Ed Sheeran, so we’ll see how much tickets are?  In Flames have yet to announce any North American dates.

This show could be WAY over our budget?

Why does U2 need to reissue one of their biggest albums for $24.99 on iTunes with a bunch of older songs added to it?  ‘The Joshua Tree’ was roughly $25 in the ‘80s when it came out on CD.  Thanks, I bought it decades ago & it sounds fine.  32 extra songs from different albums that older U2 fans already own?  I don’t know how many people are newer U2 fans that would purchase this?  I’m a big U2 fan, but this just screams “CASH GRAB” to me.

I guess U2 was my absolute favourite band until I Mother Earth released “Scenery & Fish” in 1996.  Then Canada began their post-grunge movement.  Our Lady Peace, Matthew Good Band, The Tea Party, The Age of Electric, Limblifter, Moist, The Inbreds, Finger Eleven, Treble Charger, Econoline Crush, etc.  I guess you could put Big Wreck in here as well. Their 1st release was in 1997.

Let me set the scene for you, this happened quite often.  It’s 1996, my brother & I are doing dishes after supper.  Our parents have retired to the living room.  My brother & I are addicted to I Mother Earth’s “Scenery & Fish” album.  After a few minutes of the album playing in the kitchen our mother yells at us “TURN THAT CRAP DOWN!”  We turn it down, but not enough?  She yells again “TURN IT DOWN NOW!”  We turn it down more, now we can’t hear it.  So we turn it up.  This struggle goes on until the dishes are done about an hour later.

OK, does anyone gain anything in this scenario?  Do the verbal abusers gain anything?  This is just one example, in the end it’s just people hurting other people for being different.  WHY?

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/dear-lesbians-and-gays-im-bisexual-and-you-treated-me-like-crap_us_58c1a38be4b054a0ea68e31c?section=us_queer-voices&

I guess “The Black Keys” are taking a break.

http://www.rollingstone.com/music/features/patrick-carney-talks-black-keys-break-post-touring-ptsd-w471520

This group just drives me nuts for some reason, but so does Guns n’ Roses, couldn’t tell you why?

Whether you like them or not you had to know they’d get an award for sales at some point.  I just assume many people own everything Nickelback & lie to others saying “No not Nickelback, I hate them!”  Wait 4 minutes & the radio will change.  I don’t like them, but they’ve done nothing to harm me in any way.

Yes, Monday was a day off here. I had some friends over from out of town/province in the afternoon. Was good to have most of us from University together, just lacking a few people.

My back is just an annoying pain today, nothing serious. I stretched it out & did a minimal amount of exercise. Just dialed things back a bit until I’m all better. Can’t jump in with both feet after two weeks being sidelined on the couch with a bad back.

Trade deadline for baseball was yesterday. Blue Jays ended up with 3 different pitchers, not bad, but not what I would have liked to see. I was hoping Jose Bautista, R.A. Dickey & Josh Thole would be gone. They’re not & fair enough I don’t run the team, I’m nothing more than an intense fan. If the club house is in good spirit, good enough for me. If it ain’t broke, don’t “fix” it.

After last night’s 14 inning loss 2-1 the Blue Jays are tied with the Boston Red Sox for 2nd place in their division 1 game behind the Baltimore Orioles.

Maynard James Keenan, Tool singer, has added more dates to his book tour. That tells me, no new Tool album until next year at the earliest. I’m at a point, as a Tool fan, where I just don’t care. If they really wanted to, they could have recorded an album & released it once the lawsuit over the album art was over. They didn’t think ahead is all I can say, & whenever it’s released it had better be REALLY GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So “Green Day” is releasing a new single on August 11th. Will it be any good? Once they released the album “American Idiot” I didn’t really care about their music. I was disappointed with the singles. When I think of Green Day this is nowhere in my thoughts. Fair enough though. I don’t have to like what they release, they do. If they don’t like it, why would they be doing it?

Are we saying “Goodbye” to AC/DC?

“We are currently hard at work putting the final touches on the album, which has unfortunately forced us to push back the start of our tour and miss some previously announced festival dates. We’re sorry to miss these shows, but we will be announcing touring plans soon… “ – The Pretty Reckless

So there is an album!!! AWESOME! I thought it might just be a single?

“This new album is almost done? Personally I’ve worked harder on these songs than anything I have ever put my mental energies into.. It has leveled me and I sincerely hope it does the same to you. We started writing it months ago in LA, and organized the best grains of sand from ALL of the grains of sand that we’ve collected over the past year during our travels around the country and the world. After we sorted out our findings in LA we flew the sand over to Colombia and spent 4 weeks collecting air, energy and knowledge that we would use to weld our sand into a giant boulder. We took our new fusion boulder back to Brooklyn and spent the summer breaking it back into tiny grains of sand that have a different color and new spiritual presence so that we could build a beautiful castle and then finally we photographed it from every angle so that it could last forever even after the tide washed it away. And pretty soon you’ll be able to listen to those photos of that castle made from that boulder that was made from all the sand we’ve collected from around the world once we have it framed. I can see the finish line. You should start preparing. Recommending plywood for your windows and plenty of extra batteries and candles. Goodbye Mister Asylum.” – Highly Suspect

I really liked their debut album. Can they make an album without language in 7 of 10 songs?

LANGUAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had stage 4 brain cancer, I survived I’m fine. I didn’t really know I had cancer until I was cured aka I don’t remember much of 2008 at all. Living with ALS would likely terrify me. If you’ve got even $5.00 to spare this guy could use it….

Being Canadian, I obviously can’t vote in this 3 ring circus side show of a campaign. It’s been entertaining & somewhat worrisome from a distance, but the hits just keep on coming

Alter Bridge shared it…

Is gender flipping the new thing for reboots? My question is; Are movie writers getting less creative? “Ah, we’ll rehash this one! People will eat it up!” I saw that movie 32 years ago, got anything new?

Opeth is available for preorder on iTunes lead single with preorder, full album release September 30th

It just hit me there’s a TON of good stuff coming this year music wise. I’ve already grabbed 15 albums this year one is a live album & doesn’t count. Another one is Scream, the band Dave Grohl was in before he joined Nirvana! I checked & I know have 3 on preorder & 2 without a release date or preorder available.

All of that & photos of Royal Blood in the studio on their Facebook site!

Big Wreck also had photos on Facebook of them in the studio!!!!

As for Green Day, we’ll see? Good thing Foo Fighters are on hiatus & Tool is taking their sweet time. I see myself binge listening to their albums?

Consequence of Sound celebrates 25 years of the film “Silence of the Lambs”. I still have problems watching anything with Anthony Hopkins in it. Brr! Right down my spine!
