I fell asleep to “Halestorm” the new album “Vicious”

I exercised to “Big Wreck” the album “The Pleasure & the Greed”

Let me explain this before you judge me.  When I make a friend, it’s always a strong bond.  I have many friends, some in the city, some in other provinces of Canada, & some in other countries.  My friends are nothing short of AWESOME!

I was in the hospital for almost exactly 4 ½ years.  Many people came to visit me & that was great!  I went into the hospital having just turned 28 at the end of January 2008.

I missed out on a TON of stuff, as I expected.  The world doesn’t come to a grinding halt for anyone & it shouldn’t.  It will only slow down briefly, to mourn.

My friends did exactly what I would have wanted them to do!  Slow down for a bit, & carry on with their lives.

I was at a BBQ hosted by some friends, since a mutual friend, his wife & toddler were in town.  I realized that I didn’t know many people there & the people I did know have completely different lives now, with marriage & kids now.  I don’t blame any of them for doing what they wanted to do with their lives.  I’m actually very impressed by all of them being great parents, something I’m not likely to do.  I like kids, they’re fun!

I realized that I’m not 28 anymore.  My friends have kids & other circles of friends, & that’s a very good thing!  Priorities shifted once they had their own families to care for, & that’s where their priorities should be.

I guess what I’m trying to say is I was in a group of great people, & I clammed up!  I’ve also developed anxiety.  I was worrying last Friday about being in a large group.  How did this happen, I don’t know?  If I’m in a group of more than 10 people, I feel like the outcast.  It’s all in my head, I know that.  It’s tough for me to meet new people, since I just assume they see an iPatch & a wheelchair, other than what’s inside the wheelchair & under the iPatch.

This is stuff I need to get over, nobody else needs to change anything!

Apple Music vs. Spotify.  For me, same thing, different pile.

Tool say they’re releasing an album next year.  I’ve heard this story for the last 3 years.  I’ll believe it when I have it.  This will be there follow up to “10,000 Days” released in 2006.  Roughly 12 years later, I’m expecting an INCREDIBLE album.

I’m a HUGE fan of Tool.  Tool is NOT a band that fits into a specific box.  Rock, metal, pop, tribal, rhythmic, etc.  They kind of cover it all, I prefer to call them a progressive band.  Not a specific type of music, just music

COLLECTIVE SOUL

I rarely listen to this group anymore.  For me, they come off as far too polished to be a rock band.  Everything on their albums are perfect & in sync.  When I listen to them I always wonder how much work does the producer & sound engineer have to do, or is that just how they are?  I saw them live a few years ago.  It was very much the same as listening to one of their recordings.  They’re either really good musicians or really good at faking it live.  I have 6 albums purchased on CD, nothing from iTunes.  I own 6 of 10 studio albums, the 10 albums do not include their Greatest Hits or the 2 live albums on iTunes.  This is the rock band my mother didn’t approve of when I was a young teen, but bought tickets for the family to see them at The Casino, because she wanted to see them.  I did listen to them recently, I really have nothing against their music, & they’re a band I’ve kind of grown out of.

1993    HINTS, ALLEGATIONS, & THINGS LEFT UNSAID

1995     COLLECTIVE SOUL   (Yes I played 3 songs from this album with my first band.)  This album does give me a nostalgic feeling, hearing these songs.

1997    DISCIPLINED BREAKDOWN

1999   DOSAGE

2000   BLENDER

2004    YOUTH

I fell asleep to “U2” the album “Songs of Experience”

I exercised to “Pink” the album “Beautiful Trauma”

Monday I only did 3 out of 6 exercises, pushups, crunches, & squats.  Tuesday was my birthday aka I did nothing!  On Monday I was still recovering from Saturday.  No hangover, just stayed up too late.  Usually any time after 11:00 pm, is a game of Russian roulette for me.  Everyone left by 11:00 pm, but I stayed up until 12:20 am or so & wrote most of this!

I guess I’m old now & not as cool anymore.  I’m 38 & still feel (in my mind) like I’m 20.  I really don’t miss doing the jobs I did in my teens.  Especially being a “banquet porter” at a hotel.  Longest shift I ever worked was there 14 hours long.  That was a difficult job, strength wise.  All of those weddings, Christmas parties, ethnic nights, meetings, dances, etc.  That’s why I got so tired of hearing “one hit wonders” from the 90s.  Most nights there would be some event & weekends were a guaranty there would be at least 3.  Bartending, serving food, cleaning up & setting up meeting rooms for the next day, putting a banquet room together, all of that I did for far too long 16-20 years of age I’m guessing.  I already had to wear a tuxedo shirt & a bowtie for high school band & choir at school & then at work that night………….by the way, I REALLY don’t like wearing dress clothes.

You’ve probably never thought of who put 500 round tables in here for your supper & this dance floor for afterwards.  I never thought about it either, but it was a team of likely 20 people, & I was one of them.  I’d spend an evening shift going up & down the back hallway & heard this kind of stuff on repeat……..

How many times have you heard the “Macarena”?  Great multiply that by 50 & welcome to my life as a teenager!

I would hear those songs 5 times minimum on a Friday or Saturday night at work.  Then go home & watch “Much Music” & turn it off immediately if they were playing one of those songs.  I can tolerate them, but after the 3rd time it just became ridiculous!

I tried really hard to watch “The Grammy Awards” but it was mostly me thinking “Who’s that?  Why is this the cool thing?  Man, I don’t get the attraction to this music, it’s mostly disposable candy music I’ll forget tomorrow.”

Thank goodness for “Bruno Mars”, “Sting” & “U2”.  If you we’re hoping to see the rock & metal categories, they weren’t aired on the TV broadcast.  Foo Fighters won for best rock song & Mastodon won for best metal performance.

Bruno Mars may sample stuff, but he’s always entertaining!

I think this all points to the fact that I’m not all that hip to what the cool kids are listening to, & that I suddenly became old.

I didn’t see the last 15 minutes of “The Grammy Awards” & I’m pretty sure I didn’t need or want to.  Congratulations to those who were nominated & those who won.  I applaud you’re hard work, I’m just not your demographic for most of you.

Every front man/front woman wants to be Freddie Mercury on stage, but they’re not.  They’re themselves & fans just want honesty, so it works out for everyone.  I wasn’t in an extremely successful band or even a moderately successful band.  I figured, “They paid $5 to see us play, might as well do the best I can!”  If anybody saw us whether it was a free benefit show or if it was a $15 ticket to a Cabaret, they’d better enjoy their evening.

Are you a “Led Zeppelin” fan?  Have you bought the “Greta Van Fleet” album “From the Fires”?  It’s 8 songs that you could easily put on any “Led Zeppelin” album with upbeat tempos.

I made the mistake of watching some of the “State of the Union” speech last night, & I almost……

It doesn’t matter how many beer you have “Tom Sawyer” is one of the 3 radio hits by Rush that has never been enjoyable for me!

Should the Blue Jays have tried harder to get Christian Yelich?  Try?  Who says they went that far?  Anything not regarding Vladimir Guerrero Jr. should have been seriously considered.  The GM & the manager of baseball operations were told not to “blow up” the core players.  So I guess it’s the owner of Roger’s communications who really wants to irk the fans.  So far this has been an absolutely TERRIBLE off season!

http://www.sportsnet.ca/590/sportsnet-hot-stove/blue-jays-tried-harder-get-christian-yelich/

If you’re not a diehard fan of the “Toronto Blue Jays” at this point I’d ask that you please avert your eyes.  This season could be worse than last year.  If you choose to watch you’ll likely be watching mostly old struggling players among a few minor league players to fill other spots.

I fell asleep to “Paramore” the recently released album “After Laughter”

I exercised to “Rage Against the Machine” the self-titled album

I’m 37 now, high school was a loooooooooooooooooooooong time ago.  Next year, I graduated 20 years ago.  High school isn’t something I think of very often since it was so long ago.  It was very much a clique situation.  I wasn’t a jock, “cool kid”, a part of any labeled group.  I hung out with Timothy Wong, Jonny Amore & Guy McWatt.  When I wasn’t with them, Timothy Wong & I hung out with Faye Wallenberg & Jan Wagner.  Both of those groups were pretty much unlabeled from what I know.  My high school was ENORMOUS!  I think my graduating class of 1998 was 240+?  I know for sure it was over 200 people.  I played in the school band, quit that & joined the choir.  Choir stuck as an extra-curricular activity, then I auditioned for the schools Chamber Choir, I made it!  I never expected to be on the list but I was beyond surprised!  The music program was very well regarded, one of the best in Western Canada, how did I fit into that?

In grade 11 (1997) I figured I’d try out for the baseball team, I made that too!  Another thing that I was shocked with!  I was seriously lacking in self-confidence.  I figured eventually “What’s the worst that can happen?  I might as well give it a shot.”  Achieving those 2 things were both pretty cool to me.

That was the last year I played baseball.  Playing 3B on a city league team & my high school team, I ended up throwing my arm out.  It just ached all of the time.  As much as I would have liked to play the next year, I knew I was done, just when I got really good at striking out VERY consistently.  I had one single in my last 2 seasons!  My batting average must have been .008 over the last 2 years, that’s not a good average at all.  A decent average for a 3B is around .260 or more.  I played baseball from the age of 4 – 17 so 1984-1997.  By 1996 the pitching was too fast for me, good thing I knew how to field decently to play every day.

Those were my 2 hobbies.  That’s why I watch as much baseball as possible & know a bit about music.  I may listen to rock & metal quite a bit but I’m not against orchestral music or listening to one of the many Harry Connick Jr. albums I own.

I can’t tell you where this all comes from.  I come in here, in front of my computron & just write verbal diarrhea.  Whatever pops out.  Stream of consciousness, like one of my favourite books “The Catcher in the Rye”.  I haven’t read that in years.

If you’re here strictly for the cancer news, that’s all I have for you today.

Since the release of “After Laughter” by “Paramore”, I’ve been on an intense Paramore kick, with all 5 of their albums.  This new one sounds completely different & there’s definitely a “Blondie” influence.  I’ve never been hooked on Blondie though.

Just wanted to show that I’m not the only one who hears a “Blondie” influence.

I went to see “The Proclaimers” last year at the casino.  I remember sitting there thinking to myself “I’m probably the only one here wearing a ‘Lamb of God’ T-Shirt that will be back here in 2 days to see ‘I Mother Earth”

With the Manchester bombing & all of the other garbage happening in this world, I’m thankful to wake up the next day, especially with Trump steering, arguably, the most powerful country on earth!  My thoughts go out to those in Manchester who went out to unwind & have a good time.

The world is a VERY UGLY place right now!  It’s only going to get better if we all work together.  Seems like there is hatred around every corner now.  Remember how some little picture said it takes 42 muscles to frown and only 10 or fewer to smile?  I say “Smile & Wave” more at people instead of frowning & shuffling on.  It’s an ugly “dirty world” out there, do what you can to help out someone, it doesn’t have to be a HUGE gesture.  Help an elder cross the street?

I feel sorry for the younger generation that will inherit this mess we’ve collectively screwed up.  At least we get a mood booster from Ellen Degeneres weekly!

Rockers react to the attack in Manchester

http://loudwire.com/rockers-react-manchester-concert-bombing/

I totally agree with Randy Blythe, of Lamb of God! “..the human race must do better than this..”

I’m not against any religion or atheist, believe in whatever you choose or don’t believe at all.  What religious book are they reading?  What ‘God’ would tell followers to kill others?  Why do others have to conform to the same religion as the EXTREMISTS do?  Why aren’t the other religious followers of the same religion doing what the extremists are doing?

I’m not trying to take this latest attack lightly.  If you think about it ISIS are like the carnival game whack-a-mole. They pop up, mess with your day, and go back into hiding before you can get them.  Why?  Because members of ISIS know they did something wrong!

New ‘Stone Sour’ video!!!!!!!!!!!!  Album out June 30th

Apple Music playlist of recent rock releases.  I’ve got both “Highly Suspect” albums & a few on preorder at the moment.  “Stone Sour”, “Royal Blood”, & “Nothing but Thieves”.  I really like the “Muse” single as well.  I bought the single & attached it to my favourite Muse album or else I’d never listen to it as a standalone single.

http://mixing.io/playlist/apple-music-rock-the-a-list-rock

Why so that there are more people to witness and be injured in a terrorist attack?  You need to think a step ahead of ISIS!  I don’t see adding more troops/security/police doing much unless they know what to look for.  Until our protectors change the game & get ahead, the same thing will continue to happen.   I’m not trying to say they aren’t doing as much as possible at the moment, but whoever they are, it’s time to change their/our approach.

IRON MAIDEN

Friday, May 2nd 2014

Any musician, fan of music or anyone in the music industry might enjoy this? Pass it along if you like! Also check out the Rock It Out Blog and The Needle Drop on youtube.com or facebook.com, I try not to review music they cover but it’s difficult at times if it’s something I get excited about!

Not Iron Maiden, I did buy this on Thursday though

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VVgixOjGhVU The entire album is very good, for me of course.

I’ve goy 18 iTunes files of them, including a few Greatest Hits albums that came from me hitting the “Auto Fill” button that thankfully no longer exists. It doubled a lot of stuff I had and I had to go through song by song and delete the doubles, it gave me some stuff I didn’t have and more stuff I didn’t want. I’ll give you 2 popular songs and 2 not so well known songs. They’re not as heavy as I thought. I’ve been on an Iron Maiden kick lately…
