Music throughout the weekend “In Flames”, “Aladdin”, “Trivium”, & “Lamb of God”

I’ll be checking my email & Facebook as usual & I’ll likely pop in with the odd post here.  My routine will be similar, but with far fewer posts here.  After Friday, December 20th, I plan to relax & enjoy the holidays.  Hang out with family & friends.  All while practicing on my acoustic guitar, still have to build strength in my individual fingers on my left hand.  The better you are on acoustic, the easier electric guitar is.

I don’t plan on straying too far from my regular food intake, just moderation around Christmas goodies.  I’m at a point where I’ve lost a significant amount of body fat & have gained noticeable muscle.  I’d like to keep that trend going.

I was going to lighten up on the exercise sooner than later, but I’ve changed my mind.  Better to keep things at full tilt for a bit longer.

Well I didn’t make it to my brother’s group’s (Room 333) show at The Exchange Friday evening.  A LOUD rock show.  My dad & I had planned on going but both of my parents weren’t feeling well.  Stayed home with Kim & watched some stuff on the DVR.

Kim struggled most of the day putting up the Christmas tree.  Pre-lit fake tree with a string of lights out on the lower half.  3 trips to a hardware store & she finally just went with a string that are a different shade of white.  I figure once the tree is covered in decorations it won’t matter.

Just need some Christmas lists from others & then we shop & probably do some baking!

We ended up watching the live action version of “Aladdin”.  We rented it from iTunes.  I think we should cancel our “Crave” streaming site, that we rarely watch, & sign up for “Disney +” ASAP.  We have “Netflix” & “Amazon Prime” I’d dump “Crave” in a heartbeat.  For the amount of time that we actually watch TV, we spend for more than we have time to watch.

Today I get to pick out the 37 layers I’ll wear to the outdoor CFL Western final with the Saskatchewan Roughriders vs. Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

I wear shorts year ‘round if possible, I hate wearing full length pants, they drive me even further into crazyville.  I plan to come home after the game & peal down to shorts & a T-Shirt.

If you’re getting this through Facebook, give it a like or other reaction, or share it.  That’s the only way of promoting this site, since I’m not profiting from this in any way.

Music throughout the weekend.

I don’t own this, it is a possibility for me in the future though.  We listened to it on Apple Music.  I put on “Finger Eleven” & Kim piped up instantly saying she had a headache so I changed it to this…

Have you ever heard “Ronnie James Dio” play “Holy Diver” acoustic?  “Room 333” did it acoustic & live Friday evening.  Somehow it was good, different but good.

My father & I went to The Exchange Friday night to see 3/5 of my brother’s group members, Room 333, play acoustic as an opening act for Tyler Gilbert.  I haven’t been there in a long time.  The last time I was there I was in my 1/3 wheelchairs & still in the Wascana Rehabilitation Center.  My brother & Roque lifted me up on to the slightly higher level, so I could see the show.  I like going to The Exchange it’s not Cheers, but lots of people know who you are by name & never think twice about helping anyone out.

Saturday was quiet.  I woke up, asked Kim “What time is it?”  She replied “9:00 am”.  I reply “Are you not going to work today?”  She replies “No it’s Saturday.”  I don’t know what I was thinking?  Kim spent the day working on her photos/homework for her class.  I got up & showered, which becomes useless at this time of year, I was sweating profusely by 2:00 in the afternoon.  I watched Blue Jays first of 4 Spring Training games left before the regular season starts on Thursday.  Made my vegetable juice for the week & hardboiled eggs for us.  I also wrote down what we needed for groceries.  I felt quite energetic on Saturday despite sweating so much.

For Saturday evening we ordered from “Brown’s Social House”.  I had a burger & yam fries.  I’m still not much of a fan of that place, but EVERYBODY else is.

My younger brother turned 32 on Saturday.

Kim & I rented “Instant Family” from iTunes Saturday night.  A comedy about kids being adopted from the foster care program starring Mark Wahlberg & Rose Byrne.

This morning Kim went for a walk around Wascana Lake with Jolene.  I got up & showered.  Then went straight to the kitchen to empty the dishwasher & have some breakfast with some “Finger Eleven” playing on the stereo!  I’ll be watching Blue Jays baseball again today, tomorrow, & Tuesday.  Wednesday they’re off for a day, & Thursday is when the regular season/marathon of 162 games that end September 29th.  Blue Jays play the final 2 spring training games in Montreal on Monday & Tuesday.  Mitch’s birthday supper with the family this evening.  I think everybody gave him cash?  Mitch & Rachel just got a new born puppy that needs surgery to fix her heart murmur.  I think she is only 3 or 4 pounds right now?  He surgery will be in Saskatoon & quite expensive.  Also a week long including tests one day, then surgery, & 3 days to recover.  The breeders flat out lied about having insurance for this sort of thing.

Spider-man “Far From Home” can’t get here fast enough!

Season 3 of “Stranger Things” isn’t that far away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What is a Keto diet?  A fad.  Works for some people, does nothing for others.  My uncle’s on it & he’s lost a lot of weight, he looks like a different person from a distance.  My mom has tried it & wasn’t successful.  Eat fat to eat the other fat.  Remember the Atkins diet that was eat nothing but protein?  Another fad diet that didn’t work for everyone.

I’m almost sure I’ll buy the “Feed the Machine” album by “Nickleback”?  That will make 4 purchased albums & 2 that I’ll listen to on occasion.

Daron is the guitar player & 2nd singer for the metal group “System of a Down”.  Serj Tankian is the lead vocalist for “System of a Down”.  It’s very much like “Jerry Cantrell” & “Layne Staley” in the original line-up for “Alice in Chains”.  Sort of 2 singers in one band.

All of the members of “System of a Down” are Armenian.

Anyways, Daron Malakian has released 2 albums as “Daron Malakian & the Scars on Broadway” a self-titled album in 2008 & an album titled “Dictator” in 2018.  “System of a Down” has released 5 individual albums, 2 in 2005 that fit together as a double album.  There are rumours floating around that they might get together to record a new album, but I’m not holding my breath for it.  They do have tour dates in America that likely doesn’t mean anything though.  They’ve toured on & off over the years.

2008   Daron Malakian & the Scars on Broadway

2018   “Dictator”

As for the Toronto Blue Jays, they can’t trade center fielder, I assume more because of his batting average?  They’ve already bought out 2 contracts to set the players free or cheap enough to trade early in the off season to a tune of $56,000,000.  Kevin Pillar will get $521,100 this year.  Next year he goes through arbitration expecting to make over $5,000,000.  Buy out his contract to make room for the 20 year old Short Stop Bo Bichette or a fourth outfielder Anthony Alford.

Blue Jay fans aren’t expecting much this year with so many players coming up from the minor leagues this year & Bichette played well enough to at least platoon short stop with the veteran they signed to a 1 year contract.  Bichette & Vladimir Guerrero Junior should both be in the major league in mid-April!  At the moment Blue Jay fans have no reason to buy a ticket for opening day on Thursday.  I’d go if I could afford to, since I’ve never been to a MLB game.  Out of 162 games, I predict them to win 60-70 games this year, I hope they prove me wrong.  To make the playoffs you need to win at least 95 games.  No playoffs for the Jays this year, lots of young players!

Friday evening we didn’t do much other tan have Dairy Queen for supper, super healthy!  We went to bed around 9 or 9:30 pm, we had to get up early.

Saturday we left our place around 8 am got coffee, picked up Sherry & drove to Kim & Sherry’s aunt’s place in Kinistino, a small town about 3 hours north, 15 minutes away from my in-laws place.  I haven’t been in my parent’s – in – laws house yet since 2007.  Shirley (my mother- in – law) does catering.  She ran a coffee shop/small diner in Birch Hills I was there when I was sick since Kim took me for the day.  Shirley was having a bake sale there, Kim shoved my wheelchair in the corner & I fell asleep.  It was a day trip for us 3 ½ hours there & 3 ½ hours back to Regina.  I’ve been to the lodge also for Shirley’s family reunion.

Good & bad things about being married to the daughter of a chef.  Really tasty food but usually not healthy food.  As with every Thanksgiving I ate too much.  I don’t think we’ll have to cook anything for a week?

We drove home on Sunday after a lunch of leftovers & a birthday cake for Kim & her mom.  Kim’s birthday is the 22nd & Mom’s is on Halloween.

We got to Regina at about 4:30 pm.  I had some family in town from Alberta.  We went to my parents’ place where everyone was for Thanksgiving.  It’s my Grandmother’s birthday soon, so I had 1 more piece of cake.  Mitch & I took our younger cousin out for a beer.  Mom found a bar that was open, & we left.  I thought it would be fairly empty on Thanksgiving Sunday, but it was fairly busy.  Split 2 pitchers of beer between the 3 of us & called it a night around 10:30 pm or so.  We, Canadians of course, have today off.  Other than getting ready for the 4 day week & taking our “niece” to a movie, we’ll see what else happens?

Yes, I listened to a ton of music to & from Kinistino.  I sat in the back with Brewster, Kim drove with Sherry in the passenger seat.  Brewster ate some of Auntie Donna’s dog food for her dog.  It didn’t agree with Brewster’s tummy.  He just about killed me with puppy farts.  The first one I had him covered with my hoodie since it was cold out.  We had stopped for gas, I figured the smell was from the gas station then I took my hoodie off of him when it warmed up.  THAT WAS AN AWFUL MISTAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Different smell, but still not a good one!  He didn’t want to leave my lap, the little goober farted on me 3 more times.  Good thing he’s cute!

Full disclosure, these reviews are my purchases of this year & some background from the bands.

Paramore sort of came out of nowhere for me.  My brother has been a fan of them for years, I do like a TON of their previous 4 albums.  I heard the singer, Hayley Williams, was born in 1988.  The band formed in Franklin, Tennessee in 2004.  She was signed & told the record company that she wanted to bring the rest of the band with her.  When you see her doing guest vocals with anyone, she’s always listed as Hayley Williams from Paramore.

The band released their first album “All We Know is Falling” in 2005, & released their 5th album “After Laughter” earlier this year.

Here’s a track from each of their first 4 albums.  Their recent release is completely different.

Their 5th & current album “After Laughter” is by far my favourite album in their catalogue.  Sounds very heavily influenced by early “Blondie” music from the early 1980’s.  Much more of a pop album than anything else!

Yes her voice is that good.  She can really pull it off live.

This is the album that really got me & made me a HUGE fan.  As for metal music all I’ll be purchasing that I know is coming out is “Trivium” on October 20th.  The metal music I listen to are better – known groups in the metal scene, especially Regina metal at The Exchange here in town, where our rock group played quite often.  There are very few places in town that allow original music groups or artists to play their music, but I’m really glad The Exchange is one of the few!  I could never play or scream like a metal music musician, I’m just a fan of metal.

As much as I used to dislike Metallica, their new album “Hardwired… self -destruct” is really good.  I do like some of the more “main-stream” metal, but I prefer more of the underground stuff especially the 2 underground juggernauts from Regina “Into Eternity” & “Third Ion”. Now if we could just get the local group “Itchy Stitches” of the ground.

I can’t believe “Puddle of Mudd” are still around or that he hasn’t been in jail this whole time?!?!?

I fell asleep to “Lacuna Coil” the album “Comalies” after 1 or 2 songs on 3 different albums, 1 of them was ‘Rage Against The Machine’ the album “Evil Empire” & about ½ of “Wide Mouth Mason” the album “Stew”

This should be the clean version below, just beware there could be some LANGUAGE????

As for an exercise total, it was a week off so only 2200 crunches & 60 squats.

Now it’s too late to say “It’s early but….” when speaking about the Toronto Blue Jays. Last year they acquired 5 players at the end of July & won the division. 2 of them played everyday, 1 played every 5 days & 2 were relief pitchers out of the bullpen that played maybe twice a week. 1 of the 5 is still a Blue Jay. He didn’t do much last year with the bat & it’s the same this year. 2 of the 4 that left did well last year. 2 players shouldn’t dictate what a team of 25 players can do. The current roster is arguably better than last year. The pitching is better, the batters are the same, with 1/9 being different, & the defense on paper is better. 8W-9L after 17 games, something is wrong? If they want to play meaningful baseball in September, these games are just as meaningful now.

To be honest, I hated grunge music when it became the BIG thing in 1991. I was 11 years old at the time. Rock, grunge, & metal was not the music that surrounded me. Now & since the late ’90s that’s pretty much all of my listening music with a dash of pop & jazz! When Nirvana came out with ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ I avoided it, but it was everywhere!

Not my favourite song on what will likely be or already is THE album of the ’90s, but still good. I really like the song ‘Breed’ from that album

Now I have all of the “Alice in Chains”, “Soundgarden”, “Pearl Jam”, “Stone Temple Pilots”, etc. albums, & metal albums. “Trivium” or “Lamb of God” would have to be near the top of my favourite metal groups.

OK? No point in lashing out about it, it wont solve anything it’s done, it happened & it’s over, be angry if you want for half an hour. You likely won’t remember this in 3 weeks.

I was the idiot who pretty much blasted whoever that was different from me. That’s not right! Will I remember having cancer in 20 years, sure. Will it be a huge problem? No! I work out to change my situation. Nobody gave me cancer. Do I like what happened? Of course not. So I’ll try to fix it MY WAY! Friends & family support are always welcome, but only I can make a difference for me! In other words “Hold my beer & watch this!!!!” This entire ordeal could be an epic fail video on

Oh, do I love me some Prince!

Dave Grohl is the studio drummer for Tenacious D & often plays the roll of the devil. He’s also played drums on 2 Queens of the Stone Age albums, played all of the instruments on the Probot album which he sent out to his favourite metal singers to sing on, he’s been a producer for a band that went nowhere fast. He’s the drummer for “Them Crooked Vultures” with John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin on bass, & Josh Homme of Queens singing & playing guitar. He’s also directed a documentary movie, the “Sonic Highways” mini series, directed a Soundgarden video, he’s recorded with Paul McCartney, David Bowie, etc.

I guess Axl will be hitting the stage with AC/DC?!

I’ve forgotten many lyrics while on stage. At least it happens to the pros as well!

Today’s workout was brought to you by “Matthew Good Band” the album “The Audio of Being”

I’m really in some pain. A week off for the holidays was not a great idea. I should probably have eased in to the workouts? Hind sight is 20/20 though! Today was just stretching for the most part.

Yes, Regina, mostly at The Exchange, has a decent sized metal scene. Not everyone knows everybody. But everyone shares a passion for metal, we respect each other. It’s like a big gang, we may not know a person’s name, but if they need assistance in any way, everyone who sees something going on will help out if needed. The Exchange is one of the better intimate venues in town, as well as one of the very few venues for original artists to play without paying boat loads of cash to play there. I played there with my last rock band many times. People their wont judge you & it’s always a pleasant atmosphere.

I like hearing/seeing what a band or artist is in too. I like it when someone does a cover of another song, it shows the audience what inspired whoever I’m watching, what formed their voice or made them want to learn a certain instrument. Foo Fighters play a cover or 4 during their 3 hour set….

Billy Corgan’s wrestling song

A beginners guide to David Bowie

Top notch drum off! If Neil Peart, Rush, was in it I don’t think he’d even have to play? Chris Adler of Lamb of God should be in it too. In the end it’s subjective.

Big album releases for 2016 for hard rock & metal fans. I think Tool is likely the biggest one fans are waiting for? Tool & Alter Bridge are the 2 I’m anxiously waiting for!

Back up singers can shock you! Sheryl Crow was a back up singer for Micheal Jackson before her career as a solo artist!

$35,000,000 seems like quite a bit to own a punk/rock/whatever bands catalogue of music.

The upcoming Alter Bridge album is already simply titled “V” just a vague as “ABIII” ah well, at least the music makes up for lazy album titles?

The Agonist shared it……

A Pentatonix cover, they shared……

Billy Joel with Jimmy Fallon & The Roots covering The RollingStones

Pretty guitar talk from Mark Tremonti

However you’re getting this, please pass it along?

Until Blue Jay baseball ends this year. This blog will likely take a backseat so I’ll be able to watch 3 hours of baseball a day. They get October 4th-October 6th off then resume playing on the 7th.

Today’s workout was brought to you by the letter “D”, as in “Dream Theater’s” ‘Systematic Chaos’ album.

Well the 2 sports teams I cheer for won on Sunday. Saskatchewan Roughriders won their 2nd game of a season that is nearly over? The CFL has but 9 teams, too small & pretty terrible this year, EVERYONE!! Roughriders aren’t mathematically out of the playoffs yet. I’m not holding my breath on that one.

Toronto Blue Jays won their final home series of the year by sweeping the Tampa Bay Rays 3/3 games in Toronto. They were guaranteed a wild card entrance to the playoffs Friday night, but they’re not done. I want to see them win the American league East, then the entire American league. Both are well within site. The Blue Jays are currently 90W-65L and in first place in the East. The NY Yankees are in second place at 86W-69L. Only 7 games to go for the Blue Jays! 4 beginning tonight in Baltimore then 3 in Tampa Bay. Sunday in Tampa is the final regular season game for the Blue Jays. This will be the first time in 22 years that they’ve been to the playoffs, last time in ’93 they won the World Series. I’m not convinced they’ll win the World Series yet, they rely far too much on home runs. 2 or less, good chance they’ll lose. 3 or more better chance of them winning.

You’re team is out of the playoffs. Why would anybody do this to a team mate? I think Jonathan Paplebon just lost his $11 million paycheck next year. I’ve heard rumblings that he’s not the best guy to have in the club house, finally there’s video proof.

Don’t air your dirty laundry in public. Take it to the tunnel or club house. I played on a team with a moron. Everytime he opened his yap I’d sit in the dugout with my head down & whisper to myself “Shut up! Nobody wants to hear your verbal diarrhea”. I wasn’t in charge of him or the rest of the team. If played dirty & would yell 4 letter words to the other team, have at it. Just like I was on the first link to this blog. Who looks like more of an idiot? Person yelling & swearing at everyone or the victims of a pathetic rant?

Friday, October 2nd! Don’t forget new Trivium & Clutch!!!!

I like “Islander” I’m not a huge fan, but I do like them. Brand new tune from them.

At this point I think ‘The Simpsons’ are trying to remain relevant.

‘The Strokes’ confirm they’re back in the studio. I heard one song when they were first in the public eye & decided they weren’t my taste in music.

Corey Taylor of Slipknot & Stone Sour will in a TV series

Courtney Love Cobain get’s snubbed from daughter’s wedding?

….did I disappoint you….” Yes there have been a few disappointing albums this year, for me.

Pentatonix shared it! New album October 16th!!!!!!!!!!!

Surf Dads in The Exchange Saturday, October 24th.

The full Ian Fletcher Thornley single. Album preorder October 2nd !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

37 years ago ‘Black Sabbath’ released “Never Say Die”

Mark Tremonti want’s clear the air about a “Creed” reunion. Please no. Wasted time from his band ‘Alter Bridge’ & his solo project, IMO.

New artist, Meg Myers. Halestorm shared her video!

On iTunes I see 2 albums, a single & an EP.

Latest album with this song on it. I always ask my boss aka Kim, if I can buy an album from iTunes no matter how much it costs. I’m pretty much on a limit/allowance or I’d likely go WAY overboard!!! I’m cheap, but when it comes to music, it’s a different game.

Songs I like. “Robbie Williams” I haven’t listened to him since, I don’t know when? Early 2000s” He was the “bad boy” in a boy band in the UK called “Take that”. Why do I know that? I have one album from 2000.
