I fell asleep to “Blue Rodeo” the album “Greatest Hits”

I exercised to “Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers” the album “Greatest Hits”

Since you’re here you might as well subscribe.  Either ‘like’ & ‘follow’ the Facebook page or come here with your email open & ‘follow’ in the bottom right corner.  You’ll get an email or Facebook notification every Tuesday & Friday after I finish my morning exercises.  Don’t be afraid to tell others about this page & feel free to comment on any topic!

Yeah, I exercised a bit on Friday with my walking with my walker as always.  Small steps since my calves were incredibly sore.  Kim had Monday off, so I took Monday off too.

Look at all of those pretty guitars!  It’s his hobby & his job.  He went to school to be a guitar teacher.  I think I counted 10 high end PRS guitars on his wall, he earned them!  I ordered a medium level PRS & I’m saving & hoping to buy a low end PRS (the cheapest, $1300 PRS in Aqua)…I’m also on disability though & I’m nowhere near that capability on guitar.  He knows more than those who haven’t gone to school for guitar no doubt!

To be clear here I’ve got a few (5-10?) songs up to the proper tempo on guitar.  My left hand/arm are REALLY making things tougher this time around.  I guess it was almost 12 years with brain cancer to kick things off.  If I didn’t like it SO much, I’d likely pack it in.

I realized Friday night that I’ve been playing the opening riff to this song wrong since 2001??!!??  No wonder a random drunk guy came on stage at a 500 person cabaret to tell me “YOU GUYS SUCK!”  Here I thought he was just an angry drunk?????

No, it’s not the open G string mistake that everyone makes either.  HAHAHA, I said “…G string…”!

My mother’s guitar is what peaked my & my brother’s interest in guitar.  He took bass lessons & I went to the internet.  I took two years of piano when I was 6 & 7 years old, followed by flute & choir in high school.  I think my brother played saxophone for a bit, I could be wrong?  I was sent home for a summer in high school with a saxophone.  My band instructor wanted me to learn it & audition for one of the jazz bands the next year.  I was also often the first pick to do extra percussion in high school, I always figured it was because I was mediocre at best on the flute?  Now I mostly listen to metal & rock music, stuff that makes most people cringe, including Kim.  REALLY!!!!!  Why you gotta be that way Kimmy?  She’s smart, cute, & take’s me to school in a disagreement.

This album by “The Darkness” was released last year.  Was this some type of perverse foreshadowing?  Did they know something & didn’t openly tell us?

Well I guess Easter was only kind of cancelled this year.  No big family get together meal, at least that’s how our families spend it.  Kim’s parents were going to come to Regina for Easter this year.  That was cancelled when this virus stuff started.  Kim & I didn’t do anything special.  Thank goodness I didn’t have to partake in a turkey meal!!!!  Can we start celebrating things by ordering pizza?  We just had spaghetti & tomato sauce, nice change!

I was filling my pill cases on the weekend and I felt like Oprah…..

“YOU GET A PILL, YOU GET A PILL, YOU GET A PILL, YOU GET A PILL, EVERYBODY GETS A PILL!!!!!!!” even Kim enjoyed it!

Kim was doing our taxes this weekend.  I could have helped, working makes you do math…………..I don’t work.  0 – 0 = 0 & that’s probably one of the few reasons working is over rated!

I saw this trailer on the weekend…

I liked the first one, I thought it was pretty funny.  I haven’t seen this movie.  I know this is a kid’s movie & likely not meant to be taken too seriously.  Why is it that rock & metal music are being sold to kids as evil?  Does this mean all rock & metal fans are rude jerks?  There’s music I like & music I don’t like.  A TON of music genres have songs that fall into both categories.  We took our ‘niece’ to see the “My Little Pony” movie in the theater for her birthday a few years ago.

When the evil ponies showed up to battle they played ‘metal’ music, distorted guitar?  Why would anyone bother to influence young kids to avoid any type of music or art for that matter?  What is it with the stigma that rock & metal music are evil?  I hope that’s not the intent, & I don’t think it is, however it does seem odd.  Maybe I’m reading too much into it?

Please keep up with the personal distancing?  Just because the curve is flattening doesn’t mean its SUPER PARTY FUN TIME.  It means what we’re doing is helping, keep helping in the effort to eliminate the curve.  There won’t be an announcement “OK, everything’s back to normal carry on as you were”.  When this is over (July?) it will be a gradual release of prioritized workers for more essential businesses & once everyone is out in the public, it will be different.  Please make sure you do your part so we can try to avoid another quarantine.  Too many people out at once isn’t a good thing.  I’m not a figure of authority in any way but I think it’s better to be safe than sorry!

I saw this yesterday & WOW he’s a GREAT/SMART guy.  I wish he’d be a world leader.  I can think of a few that could learn from him, if they ever stopped to listen!

I’ve gotta say I’m a VERY lucky guy!  I’ve got an AMAZING wife that loves me & supports me, of course goes both ways.  Brewster (our dog) is still alive & kicking after 14 years, & I’m lucky enough to be able to work on myself physically & mentally while relearning my favourite hobby!  Things could be much, much worse.

I fell asleep to “Clint Lowery” the album “God Bless the Renegades”

I exercised to “The Darkness” the album “Hot Cakes”

Many reason’s that I feel the don’t need another guitar, outside of the fact I find it greedy when I’ve already received 1 of 2 guitars I’ll receive in the first 6 months of 2020.  Kim deserves to go on a trip.  She’s earned it through all of her hard work at work, dealing with me, helping me with my exercise, loving me despite the bumpy road on cancer lane, always putting myself & Brewster ahead of her own needs, etc.  I get a lot of credit for putting in the work for my recovery.  Don’t forget how important she is in my story.  Kim helps me a TON, she allows me the time to do all of this recovery stuff while doing SO much more you don’t see or think about!  She’s always been my #1 priority, even when I was in the hospital.

I’ve got or will have more than enough guitars once the PRS guitar comes in April.  There are 3 (Fender, PRS, & Gibson) high end guitars I’d like to try not buy.  Nobody keeps a high priced guitar in stock in case it doesn’t sell.  Also I’m not yet a technically proficient guitar player.  Every guitarist I see seems to be though.  I’m more of a simple chord player who will play the riff/hook of a song or have a conversation with different dynamics on the guitar.  I’m not going/able to play 20 individual notes in 10 seconds.  There’s a PRS I’d think about after I play & hear the one I ordered.  It will do the 16 different things with the electronics in it.  Price tag & sound are my BIG reservations.  If I choose to get a guitar, this is of course years down the toad if I’m still able to play & can justify it.  It’s mostly a not needed or gonna happen thought.

We had one rehearsal where I just started playing 2 simple chords as we were setting up.  Once someone would get all of their stuff in order they’d jump in & play along.  It was cool, eventually the 4 of us just played with different dynamics for a couple minutes.  I can’t write a certain type of song, I always wrote lyrics & melodies.  I’d chime in once in a while & say let’s try it this way or let’s make this part softer or more aggressive.  The notes on the guitar or the chord pattern wasn’t something I was comfortable with, that’s what I’m working on now.

I even feel guilty/greedy writing any & all of this.  It’s FAR beyond time Kim gets some recognition for the great things she’s been doing for me.  My successes are because of her successes!  I’m just 50% of the equation.  I felt extremely greedy/guilty when she got me the 7 string I was groaning about.

A house is for both of us, Kim wants to travel & I want to be with her.  She gets to choose the destination.  If it’s outside of Canada, passports will be attained & I won’t complain (I’m not a traveler).  Where will the money come from?  We’ll save for the trip.  We did it for my guitar, so of course we’ll do the same for Kim’s trip.  This isn’t the Chris show, it’s the Kim & Chris show.  Can’t have one without the other, it’s just not right!

Kim should get her trip & I really don’t need another guitar.  Upgrading & selling my current amplifier would come before a guitar anyways, after a trip & a wheelchair accessible house.

GOOD GRIEF!  I’ve heard of people having 2 or 3 amplifiers but REALLY?!?  I guess when you own a relatively small guitar manufacturing company you could afford that many amplifiers!!??!!??  The company is based in the UK, it’s fairly small in North America.

If we eventually move I’d sell my used amplifier with an 8” speaker to get a BOSS Katana II amplifier with a 12” speaker.  I might blow my 8” speaker on a clean channel if I turn it up, especially with the 7 string guitar!

As basic as they come nowadays.

https://www.boss.info/ca/products/katana-50_mk2/

Definitely after more important things happen!  My current amplifier is great since we live in a condo.  I keep the volume pretty low not to bother others & at 9:30 pm on any night, I either stop or wear my headphones.  The Katana amp is more realistic to my needs once we move and a fraction of the price of that guitar.  If I had the cash, I’d chat with Kim about it & likely get one in a few weeks here.  There’s a dozen of them at the music store here.

There you go $300 + tax in town!  Last on the list of priorities still.

How was our long weekend?  GREAT!  Just not long enough.  My aunt & uncle came to Regina from Airdrie, Alberta & my cousin & common-in-law husband came from Winnipeg, Manitoba.  Great weekend, just too short need to have a bit more visiting time.

I fell asleep to “Ronnie James Dio aka Dio” the album “Angry Machines”

I exercised to “Trivium” the album “In Waves”

Here’s the Canadian Red Cross website if you’d prefer to donate there for my birthday.  Donate whatever amount you like whenever you like please?

We did have our “niece” over on the weekend for a sleepover at “Auntie” Kim’s.  Our “nephew” came over with his mom to pick up his sister.  He’s not 2 years old until the spring but he likes my wheelchair and his “Uncle” Chris.  Follows me into the bathroom, I lock my wheels, he’s behind my chair at the doorway, & all I hear is “Uncle…..uncle…..uncle….uncle?”  Then he just wants to push his sister around our place in the wheelchair.  How can you say “No” to that!  Too cute!!!!!

Haven’t really spent money on music, grrrr.  Tried to add more streaming music the other night and it tells me this is “Not available in your region”, & that’s why I’d prefer to use iTunes or even better purchase CD’s.  “Hello streaming music I’m not a fan of you but let’s make this as pleasant as we can.  You do your job, and I’ll keep quiet”.  I’ve been listening to older rock and metal.  TONS of older stuff by “Megadeth”, that I’ve owned for quite a while.  I’ve been getting into “The Cure”, “Dio”, more “Queen” & I now listen & own all but one album from “The Darkness”.  My brother can’t stand them.  I use to play or sing their first hit at band rehearsal just to pester him.

This high voice is about all I can do now.  My falsetto’s there, my real voice…..not so much.  I might start answering the phone like this, apparently it’s easier to understand?!

“Queen” & “Dio” are the 2 main worm holes I’m going down right now.  “Iron Maiden” & “Testament” I’ve had for a while now & often go back to.  The music I listen to seems to go in waves. Pop, blues, disco, funk, rrrroooocccckkkk, & mmmmeeeettttaaaallll.

The entire guitar deal is that my left hand & arm are/were pretty much useless.  Exercising & getting to a point where I had the hand muscle to form any chord was HUGE.  Sure I can whip off some impressive licks if you don’t know any better.  Thing is I’m still pretty green.  I knew a lot, I’ve learned WAY more.  My hand works.  I’ve got to speed my hand & arm up just a bit to get up to tempo.  I need to get certain parts of a song back into muscle memory.  It’s all there & most of it is VERY close.  My right arm & hand weren’t affected by brain cancer.  My strumming, rhythm, & guitar picking came back fine after 3 ½ years of therapy.  I’m sort of physically new somewhat & I’ve advanced, but I also know more of what I used to do & even what I could tackle next.  I’m a weird middle of the road beginner at this point, that’s what I’d call myself on guitar.  I’m just SO happy that I can make things sound like an actual song.  Yes I play/practice a LOT!

Why would I like to own 5 electric guitars?  I see many stay at home players with dozens of guitars.  I don’t need or want that many, I’m not that versatile.  The reason for multiple guitars is different tunings and/or sounds.  Excuse me while I mansplain my reasons.

Just watch enough of the www.youtube.com video to get a good look at the guitar, you don’t need to watch the entire video.  I’ll put up links to the Facebook photos of my guitars on here & the photos on the Facebook page for this blog.  Hopefully the links work if you don’t have a Facebook account.

My 3 electrics all sound different & are in different tunings.  The Fender Telecaster is very much geared towards country & blues music (tuned to standard E) with single coil pickups.  Same body style & pickups.  Different colour & model.  Mine is a much darker wood grain, & it’s my autographed guitar.  I learned some blues sounding chords to play it.  Foo Fighters “For All the Cows” sounds great on it!

My Epiphone Explorer is in a different tuning (Eb) & set for rock & metal music (active EMG pickups extra $200).  Same colour, style, & brand.  Different model & pickups were changed to EMGs ASAP.  Dave Grohl used to play a Gibson Explorer that was the initial reason for getting it.  It’s now my main guitar.  Epiphone is a more affordable version of Gibson, cheaper parts & wood.

My Les Paul knock off is extremely heavy (the weight of 2 Gibson Les Paul’s) & it holds lower tunings very well, so it’s tuned to D instead of the standard E (stock & loud humbucker pickups).  Same body shape, darker green, & probably different pickups.  Mine is not a Gibson or Epiphone brand, much more inexpensive, as heavy as can be, also mine has a metal plate on the back where the neck/fret board is bolted to the body.  I don’t have Grover tuners or a coil tap switch.

The other 2 I’d like are different in other ways.  7 strings instead of 6, different EMG pickups (I paid $200 to switch my Explorer pickups to EMGs), love the shape of the Les Paul & I’m gonna make it happen!  The PRS is a definite go with different pickups, semi-hollow, love the shape, locking tuners, Tremolo Bridge & bar, etc.  Definitely getting the PRS, and the more I watch demos of the Limited Edition 7 string Epiphone that 2nd place is by a hair.  At least I know what I like.  They’re both pretty & practical.  A non-guitar player likely won’t get this.

I should be able to order the PRS guitar by the end of March, then I’ll start saving ASAP for the Matt Heafy 7 string limited edition Epiphone and Kim’s dream vacation to Hawaii.  Half of what I save will go to the guitar, the other half will be saved for Hawaii.  You may think a guitar is a waste of money & that’s fine.  I spend my money mostly on music or music related stuff.

I survived cancer, my wife has been more than cool with this situation despite the times where I’ve been a mess mentally, our extended & immediate families have been great & I can’t rave enough about how great our friends have been, despite me being a complete wreck at times!  We’ve been cash poor since February of 2008.  We’re not trying to catch up to the rest of the world like we were, we just want to feel comfortable in our situation.

Yeah, I’m becoming obsessed with these 2 guitars.

The PRS guitar, I’ll order in the spring, then wait 90 days for it to get here.  If it wasn’t for us living in Canada + the 11% tax between the federal & provincial tax, I’d have it already.  The Epiphone Les Paul 7 string would take 2 days to get here.  Half the price of the PRS guitar but VERY different.  I’ll be saving for both that guitar & a trip to wherever Kim wants to go.  It will likely take me longer to save the cash, so I likely won’t get it anytime soon.  No we’re not going into debt for any of this.  We’re saving by cutting back on other things, such as iTunes (yeah I’ll be using that streaming garbage), coffee & tea from Tim Hortons, etc.

This year, more so than others, I’m all about quality over quantity.  On the guitar side of things, 5 different electric guitars would each serve a different purpose.  My acoustic guitar is for perfecting the imperfections masked by the guitar amplifier.  My exercise is the same mentality.  Each individual exercise serves a different purpose.  Less repetitions with more focus on the quality of the repetitions.

I’m going to pick 4 songs that I’ve learned & make them perfect.  Rhythm, tempo, & technicality, while continuing the finger exercises that got me to this point.  Lead guitar doesn’t really interest me, but learning more about guitar will help me.  Always something to learn!  If I could sell a guitar I would but there are unwritten rules that I have for myself as to why I can’t sell a guitar.  A) I can’t sell my first guitar.  B) An autographed guitar.  C) My main guitar given to me by my wife (girlfriend at the time).  D) I can’t sell my only acoustic guitar.

Now we just need to move so I can turn my guitar amp past 2 on the volume nob.  Ah condos!

DC movies are reinventing themselves to be more realistic, a bit darker, while maintaining the aura of a comic book movie.  I’m in!  Margot Robbie plays “Harley Quinn” so well!

I watched “Joker” with Joaquin Phoenix twice since Saturday.  Hands down as movie of the year for me.  Definitely not for kids.  Rated R for a reason.

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

I had no intension of taking a break, exercise wise, over the holidays.  I changed my mind after the week off in November.  My sleeping pattern does not like all of this stress.  So I was awake half of the night Sunday, slept in Monday, felt lazy & tired ended up doing nothing.  Went to bed at 9:30 pm Monday night.  Got up to pee at 2:40 am, couldn’t fall asleep.  Got out of bed @ 3:20 am and did some stuff in the kitchen quietly.  Felt really tired around 8:30 am, crawled in bed.  Showered, had lunch & it was 2:30 pm.

All of this is not good for me.  My mind hasn’t known how to relax in the last 3 years or so, & it’s getting worse.  When I was in my rehabilitation program I was severely depressed & was put on an anti-depressant/sleeping pill to combat the negative thoughts in my head so I could sleep.  I’m not having negative thoughts now, I just feel like I have so much to do, but my body doesn’t want to keep up.  With the house being listed, its holiday season, & I put stress on myself to get as much done in a day as possible, I’m tired, a bit grumpier than usual & generally feel like I’m just wasting days by not exercising.

I hate having our house listed.  I’m physically handicapped with no driver’s license but when someone wants to see our place, Brewster & I have to disappear for the 30-45 minutes someone’s here.  Much easier said than done.  My parents are in town until they go on a trip about a week in to the New Year.  Then Kim will have to get us out of here.  With her being on contract, she doesn’t like to take time off since she doesn’t get paid if she’s not at work.  With all of that going on I’m more stressed than ever.  I’m not depressed or crying (like I was in my Rehab program), however I do feel anxious all of the time.

I guess we can add the fact that my brother has another surgery coming up shortly after Christmas.  The first one wasn’t enough.  I worry about him too.  He had back surgery for bone spurs on his shoulders that were causing his arms & hands to go numb at random times, 5 months of disability & some of that doing physiotherapy.  He went back to work for 2 weeks of shortened shifts & he’ll be heading to Saskatoon for a 2nd surgery, this time through the front of his body, because the numbing sensation came back.  Between my dad, mom, brother, & I, we’ve all had some type of surgery.  My parents have both had eye surgeries, mom’s had one knee replaced & soon another, my brother is dealing with his back surgeries, & I’ve had 3 brain surgeries.

As for the house being on the market, at this point I’ve lost all hope of the stars aligning for us to sell & find a new (wheelchair accessible) place in Regina in our price range.  They’re completely gone at the moment.  Our contract is up on December 31st.  I told Kim “Do what you want.  I’m out, I’m not looking.  If I need to disappear, that’s not my problem.  I figure we could be here for 5 more years, & I just don’t care.  We have nowhere to move to.  The entire reason we put this place up for sale was for a forever home that sold 3 weeks after we hit the market.  The contract at that time was to remove our place from the market if our dream house sold, & it did.  I’m out.  I’m not going to stop you or our realtor from looking, I’ll willingly see a house you find, but I’m not searching for something that is likely not there at the moment.  I’ll start house hunting online again in March”.  We’ve lowered the price once & that’s as low as its going.

As of today it is 6 years to the day that we moved into this condo.  Nothing wrong with this place, we’re just much younger than the average resident here.  My parents are young & I’m guessing they’re younger than the average person here?  I’d like to move, but I don’t see things working out for us in the near future.

We signed our mortgage papers at the bank on Monday, my name is on it but Kim handles the money here.  I saw what our mortgage payment is each month, & I’m thinking that guitar I was going to order is better off at the factory.  Kim disagrees still?  I don’t know what I was thinking to begin with now.  I cancelled my football tickets for next year, which is what I’d prefer to happen in for many different reasons, then wanted to buy a really nice/moderately expensive guitar?  The guitar’s still up for discussion despite me having a decent portion of the money already.

Everyone’s Christmas gifts have been purchased & are wrapped under the tree.  That stress is over.  What’s bugging me now is that I have possibly 30 years of exercise to cram in ASAP.  Even then I’ll likely be using a walker.  I’m disappointing myself.  Especially if I’m sitting around, doing nothing but thinking of what I need to do.

As for eating & drinking over the holidays, not much has changed in that department.  We drink store bought non-alcoholic light egg nog.  I occasionally put it in the few coffees I have a week & I’ve had 2 glasses of ½ egg nog, ½ skim milk, with a shot of Kahlua.  After the 8(?) Holiday sweets I’ve had so far, I’ve determined they just make me feel sick & I don’t need them.  So I’m basically still drinking a minimum of 3 liters of water a day, 2 eggs a piece of fruit & homemade vegetable juice for breakfast, lettuce wraps w/Turkey deli meat for lunch & a small meal at supper.  I also have 3 small snacks a day.

In the spirit of trying to help people out I’m helping a couple people learn guitar with me.  I know what to do, just have to get my left hand used to it again.  No I’ve never charged anyone.  I was ‘teaching’ two friends before cancer, so I figured I’d help a couple people out again.  I don’t charge anyone because A) They’re friends/family   B) I’m just a singer that learned guitar to be more comfortable on stage, my knowledge is very limited.  I’m happy to say that I can tell that there’s progress every day.

I was always a rhythm guitarist, but I’ve been doing mostly individual finger exercises & different scale patterns on the guitar to strengthen my hand.  It helped!  Things are getting much better!  Figured out the main guitar riff for this, wasn’t able to play it before cancer, I probably didn’t try enough.

Right hand rhythm works fine, left hand fretting needs some work, but it’s getting there!  More guitar practice as things are becoming more familiar with it.  Practice on the acoustic then play it on the electric.

One good night of sleep & today I got up on time, had a good workout and was able to manage my time better!  I plan to keep exercising next week, it will likely be a day or 3 of shortened exercise, 25th & 26th anyways.

What have I been listening to?  Pretty much anything but Christmas/Holiday music.  Still just not ready for it?

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

What I’ve been listening to lately, “The Darkness”, “Coheed and Cambria”, “I Built the Sky”, & “Alter Bridge”.

Where ever the picture ends up on here, that’s a portion of my Tuesday & Thursday exercise.  I don’t own a cell phone but Kim does.  She wants to do yoga with me when she gets home from work & took a few pictures that evening.

I ended up doing a lot of nothing from Friday, November 15th to Sunday, November 24th.  Started up the exercise again on the 25th.  Kim decided she’d like to do yoga with me on Tuesdays & Thursdays.  So I do some stretching & weights in the morning, then yoga when she gets home after work.

So far my eating habits have remained quite similar.  I know I’ll partake in some taste testing of holiday baked goods though, then perhaps during my big 4-0 in January.

Gotta get to the weights!  My T-Shirts are pretty much hanging on to me for dear life.  Other than the occasional light eggnog in a coffee, I’m still running sugar free, outside of natural sugar.

I’m not going to avoid holiday baking, just in moderation.

I intended to ask for a few things for Christmas & let Kim bank any extra cash for herself or whatever expenses we need it for.  Nobody was OK with what I was going to do with the cash, including Kim.  She insisted I save it for the guitar I want.  So I guess I’ll be ordering this guitar in the summer, in a McCarty Sunburst finish.  We’ve got to save up some cash until then.

https://www.prsguitars.com/index.php/electrics/model/s2_custom_22_semi_hollow_2020

As for the Epiphone 7 string, I’ll think about that in 8 years if I’m still into metal, although it does look pretty nice!  I was going to get this one since it’s a limited edition, Kim said to order the more expensive one though?  If I ever get a 7 string guitar, I hope these are still in production?

I have been practicing my guitar constantly.  Mostly finger exercises to build up the strength in my left hand.  Usually 4-9 hours a week.  I was a singer that learned rhythm guitar to fill out a rock band.  Playing fast or soloing was never my thing & was beyond my ability.  Since my voice hasn’t caught up yet, I’m learning a bunch of new stuff to become a more versatile guitar player. I played my guitar “…until my fingers (almost) blead…” the last week and a bit.

The Christmas tree has been up since November 16th, little early for me but it had to go up sometime.  Now we can get some gift shopping done for what I will now call “The most (stressful) time of the year”.  I need lists people, I can’t read your minds?!

I’m usually really into the holiday season, no snow here yet, I need snow.  It was raining on November 24th, my parents’ 41st anniversary & Grey Cup 107.  There should be snow on the ground by now not “November Rain”.

Brewster’s feeling better now & done with his medications.  He even has enough energy to play for a bit twice a day.  He’s now back to day care once a week to play with other dogs.  He still gets very excited when he figures out where he’s going & can’t get in there fast enough.

Kim’s quite busy at work & is pretty tired after each day.  I think her entire department told their manager they need another person on staff?

After a week of not exercising & a week of exercising, I find that exercising makes me more aware around here.  I find that I manage my time better.  I also get up earlier to accomplish my exercise & other tasks for the day.  I got up at 6:30 am.  I fed Brewster, had my small breakfast (I eat 5 or 6 small meals/snacks a day), cleaned up Brewster’s bowl, & exercised.  It was only 9:30 am after all of that!  I checked my email & Facebook, had a bite to eat, showered, & had an early lunch around 11:30 am.  Spent the rest of the day practicing guitar for a few hours & watched some recorded TV.

I don’t typically post videos or photos on anything.  I don’t own a cell phone but my wife does.  I’m usually at home with no need or desire for a cell phone & if I’m elsewhere, I’m busy usually with someone else who likely has a cell phone.  An email or a Facebook message/notification will be there when I get home.  I’ve tried texting & I just don’t like it.  I find texting to be the lazy way of calling someone.  It’s easier to dial a number rather than type out a conversation on a tiny keyboard.  Cell phones & I aren’t friends.  They’re just not for me.

That being said, my speech isn’t great.  I’m hard to understand.  I feel like I have to exaggerate my lip movement to speak well & I ALWAYS forget that.  I’m also very quiet when I speak.  Since cancer I have very short breath support.  It’s gotten better, but at first my sentences were very broken in odd/random places.

Out to visit my uncle in Sask. Beach this week for lunch & a few games of cribbage with my parents.  Nice going out there, seeing someone I haven’t seen in a while in a very wheelchair accessible place (he’s in a wheelchair also & Kim hates cribbage).

Thursday evening we went to see our “niece’s” Christmas school musical.  I don’t even remember the entire “12 days of Christmas” & I just saw it?!  Great to hear kids singing this time of year.  I’m surprised the school got away with calling it a “Christmas” event what with everything having to be so politically correct!  I’m good either way, I know what I’m celebrating.  If you’re against that, all the power to you.

It also was a blizzard outside Thursday evening!  FINALLY………………….SNOW!!!!!!!!  I can’t stand the heat, I’ve been waiting for this since January!  I’m typically found wearing shorts, Kim made me wear pants = not a happy Chris.  I can’t even remember the last time I was outside for more than “5 minutes…”?  In retrospect, I should have gone with the shorts.  Our friends were up front to see their daughter.  We were at the back (wheelchair).  The parents at the back didn’t seem to care much.  They were mostly talking on their phone, texting, & visiting with other parents, that was utterly disappointing/heart breaking.

Well the snow is here, the house is decorated, the tree is up, I’ve seen a Christmas play by kids, & I still have resting Chris face.  What the hell is wrong with me?

I don’t see any issues with this?

She’s an American citizen, the impeachment is being done as stated by the Constitution & it’s well known that the democrats don’t want the current president re-elected.  So why is the guy so shocked by her statement?  Call me a dumb Canadian, but this isn’t breaking news.  I haven’t even watched American news in months.

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer? Ask if you do!

I fell asleep to “The Darkness” the album “One Way Ticket to Hell…and Back”

I exercised to “Big Wreck” the album “…but for the sun”

I wrote it many times & didn’t like it & had no desire to put it into the world.

Brewster is doing well. He still has about a week & a ½ of medication to go. He rarely goes into a coughing fit. It’s down to about twice a day instead of every 30 minutes. I’m glad & pleasantly surprised at how much better he’s doing. He did end up costing us about $1000 this month for his tests & medication so we’ve had to make some changes to afford his vet bill.

There’s no such thing as a wheelchair accessible house on the market right now in our price range in Regina, so as far as I’m concerned that’s an impossibility at the moment. I’m not getting either one of the guitars I chose, since the funds aren’t there & likely won’t be for a while. Those two things I’m good with more importantly Kim & Brewster are healthy.

What I do not like is that I’m now streaming music, instead of purchasing my music. It’s suffering enough that some rock & metal musicians are making less than me & that’s flat out legal stealing to me. It’s legal so do what you want. For me I’m listening to music I own as well as “I don’t care” & “Who gives a crap, its disposable”. I’m over the fact that we won’t have nice stuff for a few years. Streaming music for me is the work of the Devil. “You paid $10,000 to make this album? Here’s a check for $2.50 this month” that’s just stupidity at its best. I hope whoever isn’t making money from streaming music pulls it from every digital platform and releases it only on physical platforms, CDs, vinyl & even cassette tapes. I have music on my iPod that I like & I have 12 disposable albums I don’t own and feel bad when I listen to it. If music becomes nothing but streaming online or if Apple doesn’t become a respectable music label. I’ll go straight to physical formats that I can own instead of ‘rent’. With that being said there will be little to no new music being purchased or streamed until after Christmas, yeah I loathe streaming music that much. If I can’t buy it, I might as well listen to the radio here!  I’d rather have the cash for gifts for others than listen to rented music.

As for the PRS guitar, it’s too expensive right now the limited edition Matt Heafy 7 string Epiphone is also expensive but not as much. A guitar around that much plus tax had better be perfect. The Epiphone 7 string will be the runner up for many years if not forever. For now I’ll look at the links I’ve book marked. It’s not like I’m a guitar virtuoso yet or before, I’m starting at square one, but I know too much, if that makes sense. I don’t NEED either one, I just WANT them, big difference between NEED & WANT! I’ve decided on a colour to stare at, McCarty Sunburst for the PRS guitar. Now I can “…dream in colour…”

All of the changes we’ve made are out of necessity & I’m good with that, we can afford Christmas gifts for others. That’s important to me. What would I like for Christmas? Money for a wheelchair accessible house in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada that currently is not on the market. Better yet buy our house for the asking price & find us a place to move into? If we lived in the area of Buffalo, New York & were looking to spend the same amount of American money, we could afford a large house outside of the city that’s wheelchair accessible??!!??!!?? That’s what I get for watching HGTV!
Billie Eilish & TOOL had bigger debuts on the charts than Kanye. Does this mean anything? I see it as just numbers, not a trend, but that’s just me.

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer? Ask if you do!

5 day exercise total; 1,500 crunches, 900 leg lifts, 200 squats, 00 back flexes, 0 pushups, 800 curls, 00 tricep lifts, 200 shoulder raises. Stretching & even more YOGA.

I fell asleep to “Nothing but Thieves” the album “Broken Machine”

I exercised to “The Darkness” the album “Last of our Kind”

THIS IS WRITTEN IN REGINA, SASKATCHEWAN, CANADA. SOMEHOW THE MAP LOCATION WAS MOVED?
More yoga this week than ever, gets my triceps really good that why I didn’t do any with my weights. I do weights, yoga, & other intense stretches every Tuesday & Thursday. Yes, I fall, I still have no physical balance. I use a chair, table, or wall to balance myself when doing certain yoga poses. So far when I fall I’m just strong enough to fall with a bit of grace & haven’t seriously hurt myself. My back was bugging me Monday, I rested it, put some ice on it & did my squats on Wednesday & Today.
Wake up, have breakfast, exercise, shower, eat lunch, check my computer Monday & one of the guitars I chose is “no longer available”? It wasn’t even the “Limited Edition” guitar? The 7 string Epiphone remains, the PRS I originally chose was a 2018 and more than $1000 less. I do not own a 7 string guitar or a PRS guitar, which sound very nice. Gotta pick one & hope it will happen. Yes, I book marked them so I can stare at them & call them both “My precious”!
It’s been decided 1 PRS next year. Same guitar as featured below, different year, better price! I hope there’s a 7 string around in 10 years, heck, I hope I’m still alive & relatively healthy in 10 years! Now, to start saving! Is this a mid-life crisis purchase? I hope I live to be 80 or more! If I make it to 80 or not this is my mid-life crisis purchase. I can’t drive, so it’s a very nice guitar! This is a LARGE purchase for me, a onetime deal for sure!

Kim gave me the OK for a reasonable PRS next year, so here’s hoping! Gotta start saving my pennies now! Thanks to Tim Roth at Long & McQuade for helping me in my search for the guitar I wanted!
I used to be able to play all the way through Foo Fighters’ 1997 album “The Colour and The Shape” on guitar, most of the 3rd album, all of the acoustic double album, & other songs in the mix, before cancer.

This one is available now & I’ll start saving for it ASAP. I’ll have to special order it in a burnt amber burst colour. This is a mid-life crisis purchase for me!

https://www.prsguitars.com/index.php/electrics/model/s2_custom_22_semi_hollow_2020

https://www.long-mcquade.com/22227/Guitars/Electric_Guitars/Gibson/Matt_Heafy_Les_Paul_Custom_7_String_Electric_Guitar.htm?ref=suggestive-search

This was in the running but lost out, maybe someday, if they’re still around…& if I win the lottery…..I guess I should consider playing the lottery? Less expensive also. Go big or go home, once! Matt Heafy is the singer for “Trivium” metal music is fast & difficult for me on guitar, I’ll get there eventually for now 6 strings are enough to work with. It is the same guitar he plays in this video & on tour.

My priorities are Kim, Brewster, our family & friends, etc. Kim has different priorities, I guess?
Kim’s dental bill is payed off thanks to her father for helping out, she waited a long time for that (almost 24 years). She used her birthday money towards Brewster’s Vet bill. I thought I’d use my money for other things in the future, save it for a rainy day. She insisted that I use it towards a guitar! For me this is not only a mid-life crisis purchase & a nice work dealing with the cancer situation so far. It’s also a part of getting my old life back while improving it.
Kim works at a job she likes for decent pay. I exercise daily & try to recover while living on disability checks & Canadian pension plan checks that when added together don’t amount to anything above the poverty line. We tend to live in & out of debt. This is why luxuries are usually out of the question.
My Saskatchewan Roughrider season ticket is already paid for this year, so I’ll be at the game Saturday afternoon, & the home playoff game, which is paid along with the season tickets the previous December. That right there is $1000 a year + food & beverage. $6 for a watered down pop is as equally atrocious as a $9 generic beer. I refuse to spend $9 for a beer I can buy a 12 pack for $18 at the liquor store. I rarely drink beer other than a new flavour of craft beer. I usually have a pop & some popcorn or just chew gum to keep my mouth moist at the game, my pills give me dry mouth. I can pause the game here on TV and save on the cost of food & beverage.
A plus is to be able to just watch the game. Now it’s ‘Come for all of this extra stuff, & there’s a football game too’ I’m not a kid anymore, lights & games don’t do the trick anymore. More than I want & prices went up for the new stadium a few years ago, they’re not coming down.
I never watch live TV, EVER! “Oh, the game started? Thanks Kim, I’ll start it in ½ an hour”. Everything we watch is recorded. We’ll watch it when we have time. We’re busier than usual “around here”. No commercials that way.

My priority is to get better, sooner than later! Other than that, I shouldn’t NEED anything, it’s just stuff I WANT. Big difference between NEED & WANT! This guitar purchase will be a slap on the back as if to say “Hey, you’re doing alright. You gotta keep going, there’s a long road ahead still”. One day I’d like to find an online part time mundane job to do 4 hours a day/5 days a week, so I have time to exercise still.
Well whether this is settled or not. Please buy my house & I’ll love you long time…unless you’re not into that, then the safe word is sauerkraut & we can just cuddle in our PJs, eat popcorn, & watch movies. You’re the boss though, this is just a suggestion, nothing more.

I think this would have more to do with the style of music a person listens to. Biasedly though, I didn’t even know other bands had logos.

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

I fell asleep to “Tool” the album “10,000 Days”

I exercised to “The Darkness” their “Greatest Hits”

It’s official, next CFL season I’ll be splitting a season ticket with my mother.  I’ll go to half of the games & the Grey Cup game.  That will be my final season at the games.  A needed expense popped up, so we need the money.  Kim wanted to possibly move next year, but that’s not even a consideration now!

The expense you ask?  Kim smashed her teeth when she was quite young on a waterslide.  Her front 4 teeth are fake & she’s been wanting to fix them since before I knew her.  She’s getting 6 crowns on her front teeth.  Hello line of credit!  Nice hit just before we get Christmas gifts.  It will be over a month before she’s able to get them.

I’ve been doing my regular exercise total, rest & watch some TV, then do a little more exercise.  This should help in the long run, I hope!  I think I’ll stick with that 4 days a week & Fridays I’ll do my regular total.  I need to get my butt walking more with my walker.  Since Kim & I are so full of energy in the evening!  Yeah, that was saturated with sarcasm.

Yesterday & already today before I did my morning exercises, I was already tired.  Now that I’ve done my morning exercises, I just want to nap.  Lots of daylight left though, more work to be done!

I haven’t had my third appointment at the mental health clinic yet.  The increase in that one pill seems to have really mellowed my frustration/anger.  If I run into a situation I feel I might blow up on, I take a few seconds to realize how insignificant it is & calm down.

I need to realize I’m in a wheelchair, the same as I was yesterday & it won’t change overnight.  I also need to realize that I can’t change other people, they have to do it themselves.  I was picking out what I thought were flaws in others, but guess who has the most flaws at the moment?  ME!

I should know better to shut my yap & learn something.  At the same time, when do I get to talk?  If someone is struggling with something that I know about, I’d rather help than sit around & listen to that person bicker with the issue.

Does this not sound like the SRC promises in high school that even the kids couldn’t promise would happen.  “I CAN’T make Coca Cola come out of the water fountains, but I can promise you this….”  Bernie, please go back to high school, SRC candidates know better than to literally promise the moon.

How dare, an 8th grader draw a bands logo on his school book or use their lyrics in a report.  If he credited the lyrics, they have no case.  The logo can also be interpreted as advertising.  I like “Metallica” but this is beyond ridiculous!  I wrote “Barenaked Ladies” lyrics on my grade 10 notebook, lock me away & throw away the key.

All of us fans of “Tool” can now rejoice & worry no more for being criticized for listening to “Tool”.  Yep, there are people out there who don’t like them, no, I’m not one of them.

Why are we still waiting for a new “System of a Down” album?

BILLIE EILISH

I know very little about her.  Kim & I saw her perform on “Ellen”.  I haven’t bought her album yet, but I fully intend to.  I don’t stream music, however I’m streaming this one for now.

I’m hooked on her 2nd album “When we fall asleep, where do we all go?”  Not really full on pop music more like alternative pop or alternative.  No loud guitars or screaming.  More whispered melodies, it’s different, refreshing, & I just let it play on repeat.

I fell asleep to “Rush” the album “Counterparts”

I exercised to “Stone Temple Pilots” the album “Core”

I ended up spending most of Sunday on the computer again.  If there are any double files, I give up.

I miss my hobbies.  I loved playing & singing in a rock band, something I always wanted to do after I graduated high school.  I was always a singer by default, since I could carry a tune & I didn’t own a guitar until I was 21.  Practicing my guitar now is not fun for me.  My brain knows what to do, but my left (fret board hand) refuses to listen to me.  So after maybe 10 minutes, I get more than frustrated.  Since there’s no baseball on at the moment, I should really hunker down & get 1 of my guitars & really work on it.

As with most things, I never really practiced guitar or singing.  In my head I’d say “Ah, good enough”.  I did get a bit better with each rehearsal or show.  I never really sat down & focused on singing or playing.  I guess there were a couple times I’d check out a song I liked, learn the meat & potatoes of it in 30 minutes & leave it at that.  I learned these songs pretty well though….

The guitar part sounds much more difficult than it sounds.

This along with the entire 2nd album by Foo Fighters & some of their 1st, 3rd, & 4th album.  I guess their 5th album too.  Then they were far too difficult to play & sing at the same time.  I also learned a few other songs on my own…….

I was good enough to fill in for Chris Messer’s band “Left Foot Louie” who played polkas, country, & rock as the older crowd were calling it a night.  When Chis asked me to fill in for Tyler, I had one issue.  “OK but, you have to do the leads & difficult stuff.  I can’t do that stuff.”

I practiced once with Tyler Wanner, Corey McDonald & David Kliman.  I was impressed that Tyler was impressed that I could play “Slither” by Velvet Revolver & sing it also.  How could I not be impressed?  He listened to the solo twice & knew it!  BLEW MY MIND!

Check out this documentary about hired musicians who play whatever is needed on an album or tour with big name musicians like Billy Joel, Alice Cooper, Rob Zombie, etc.  It’s called “Hired Guns” on Netflix.

I am a U2 fan.  I’m still deliberating if I should purchase their new album?  However I’m leaning further to saying yes to the dress/album.  Oh, how Kim loves her TLC.  Yet, I’ve learned nothing.

Why do the Toronto Blue Jays have to wait for somebody else to make the first move?  The home run leader from last year just got traded to the N.Y. Yankees, & they’re in the same division.  The Yankees just added a 59 home run hitter to their lineup, move!  If nothing happens, say “Goodbye” to most of your ticket buyers, then sell the team that nobody will want.  They have needs not wants.

If the Blue Jays can dump Troy Tulowitzki at short stop & get Machado to join the team at short stop, I’m all in.  I wouldn’t let Josh Donaldson go if possible, he’s a late bloomer, & a good one!

WEEKLY EXERCISE TOTAL

If you like it, please share & subscribe?  If you don’t please give me feedback as to what would improve it for you?  I can’t please everyone but I can try.

A little disappointing on Wednesday.  I guess it really doesn’t matter.  It was very long & in the middle of the week, my bad.  This site had 8 viewings by 6 people from Canada.  On Facebook we hit 97 views.  I can’t tell who’s reading this but thank you!

I don’t want to overload you with links, pick what you want to know about & feel free to skip the other stuff.  The www.youtube.com  links are there for a point of reference if you don’t know what I’m talking about.

Don’t feel as though you have to open every link.

I fell asleep to “The Watchmen” the album “Live & in Stereo”

I exercised to “Royal Blood” the brand new album “When did we get so dark?”

Yay it’s Friday & I’ve been waiting for it!  Sure I’m at home all day, but I exercise, take care of Brewster, have breakfast, watch minimal TV, shower, have lunch, write portions of this blog, practice guitar, & then I’ll hit the couch & listen to some music.  Then it’s 3:00 pm or so unless the dishwasher or hand washed dishes need to be tended to, or I need more fruit & veggie juice or I need to clean up something.  I’m usually out of bed by 8:30 am at the latest, I tend to go to bed around 11:00 pm.  Once I’m up it’s go, go, go, until everything I wanted to accomplish is done.

500 leg lifts, 200 pushups, 5 minutes of planking, yoga, 500 crunches & 100 back flexes this past week.

That’s 100 leg lifts, 40 pushups, 20 back flexes, 25 minutes of planking, 100 crunches & yoga 5 days a week.  First thing I do when I leave the bedroom, then breakfast & a shower.

Yes, those are my current goals.  I think they’ll stay at that limit for quite a while.  You know me though, I’ll likely push to raise some of the numbers sooner.

I used to be a decent swimmer.  I never took swimming lessons as a child.  My dad grew up playing water polo & swimming in the morning before class at the University.  He taught me how to swim.  My grandparents’ old condo had a swimming pool.  He taught me there & in the summer at the lake/cabin. My grandparents’ owned, built by my great grandfather.  I used to swim with no problems at all.  Now I wouldn’t get into a pool or lake without a life jacket on.

If you’re here strictly for the cancer news, that’s all I have for you today.

Honestly I couldn’t give you a song of her’s.  I’m pretty sure a 37 year old, straight, white male isn’t in her demographic.

Royal Blood’s Facebook page

“Pleased to announce we’ll be supporting Queens of the Stone Age in North America in September/October. Tickets on sale 22nd June.”

Only Canadian date is in Toronto in October.  I guess technically that makes it a North American tour.  Toronto, just over a 2 day drive away from Saskatchewan.  Musically, I should move to Toronto or Europe.  Many North American tours are 20+ shows in America w/ 3 Canadian dates, Montreal, Toronto, B.C., & sometimes Calgary depending on the popularity of the artist(s).  Although Tool, Elton John, Ozzy Osbourne, Garth Brooks, Dixie Chicks, Blue Rodeo, Foo Fighters, In Flames, Trivium, Lamb of God, Megadeth etc.  Have at least played Saskatoon and a few of those have made their way to Regina.

TONS of great music for me being released this year.  I adore the new Big Wreck album. But the Paramore album “After Laughter” is on heavy rotation on our stereo & my iPod.  It’s much more of a pop album than previous albums that were the typical pop/punk/distorted guitars.

Just checked the ol’ iPod for counts of play on it!

30 times listening to Big Wreck’s ‘Grace Street’ & Paramore’s ‘After Laughter’

12 times for The Watchmen’s ‘Live & in Stereo’

The odd thing is I listen to our stereo more than my iPod!  I think I have a problem?

I’d sing & play these 2 songs at the band practices with my brother’s group!  He really doesn’t like these songs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mitch Fraser!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Green Day albums ranked.  If it were me “American Idiot” would be a distant last place!

I’ve listened to the new Royal Blood album a few times this morning & WOW, no sophomore slump in sight.  I’d say it’s even better than their first album & it’s phenomenal also.

I went to a friend’s house last night to see his new place.  Pretty sweet place.  His condo looks great, could be that I haven’t scratched up, or demolished his walls with my wheelchair….yet!
