Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

Music from this weekend!  “Greta Van Fleet”, “Nothing But Thieves”, “Live”, “A Perfect Circle”, “Coheed and Cambria”, & “Halestorm”

Really quiet here.  I realized on Friday I had some other TV shows recorded on our PVR.  I watched them & one episode of “Making a Murderer” before Kim got home.  She had many TV shows to watch on the PVR, of course we watched “The Elle Degeneres Show” first, as usual.

Saturday I moved from our bed to our couch & kitchen.  Cereal, yogurt & rum, TV (not all at the same time) later on.  Then 4 episodes of “Making a Murderer”.  Kim is sort of watching it too.

Today, Kim got up & went for coffee with Jolene.  The 4 of us met each other in SIAST.  Corey & Jolene were engaged a week or 2 before us & married roughly 4 months after us.  Really good people, great friends, & awesome parents to our “niece” & “nephew”.

Went over to our friends’ place this afternoon, Chris & Laurie’s for an afternoon visit, also really good people, friends, & they also have 2 cool kids.

Now it’s get ready for the week time.

Review of “Greta Van Fleet” & “The Struts”.  The Struts’ 2nd album is not actually out until October 26th.

Music throughout the weekend. “In Flames”, “The Struts”, “Dead Sara”, “Stone Sour”, “Devin Townsend Project”, “Foo Fighters”

LANGUAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thursday evening we did nothing but watch TV.  So far we’ve mostly been binge watching “The Fosters” on Netflix.  If you liked “Parenthood” or like “This is us”, “The Fosters” are probably right up your alley!  We’re somewhere in the 2nd season of 5.  There are 20-22 episodes each season with roughly 50 minute episodes.

Friday we went to my parents’ place to celebrate my mom’s birthday which was actually on August 25th.  BBQ burgers, hot dogs, & corn on the cob & birthday cake for dessert.

I don’t think we could be any lazier if we tried on Saturday!  Ordered in supper & watched Netflix.  I also slept until 11:30 am, after going to bed around midnight.

Labour Day Classic in Regina on Sunday & we won.  I had never tried to eat an entire 2 foot long hot dog, but there’s a first for everything.  Finished my hot dog before 3:00 minutes into the first quarter of the game.  Washed it down with an overpriced beer.  Yes, the Roughriders won 31-23.  Quite the entertaining game right down to the last minute & a half.

Came home after the game, had supper & watched a couple of episodes of “The Fosters”.  Yes, I still had room for supper after the 2 foot long hot dog.

Another lazy day on Monday.  Ordered in supper again & watched some more Netflix.

My new wheelchair should be here today.  I was going to hit the road with my dad, that’s not happening due to circumstances out of our control.  Keep that voice in good shape Mr. Grohl!

Concert video & album out on Friday September 7th!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4 Song EP from Nothing but Thieves out October 29th!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

New Muse album out November 9th!!!!!!!!!!!

NO DOUBT

Remember when “ska” was all the rage in the ‘90s?  I thought the entire thing was a nice change to the grunge music.  There were many ska groups to follow.  I only followed No Doubt’s career though.  I didn’t have the desire to follow the entire ska scene.  I have 4 of their 6 albums.  There are 2 before their breakout album “Tragic Kingdom” but I don’t have them.  I think my brother has 1, but I’m not sure?  There was a period a few years ago when I listened to No Doubt & nothing else.  Things always change though.

1995   TRAGIC KINGDOM

2000    RETURN OF SATURN

2001    ROCK STEADY

2012    PUSH & SHOVE

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

Music throughout the weekend.  “Dead Sara”, “Nickelback”, “The Beatles”, “Nirvana”, “Big Wreck”, & “Devin Townsend Project”

LANGUAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, Nickelback’s album “The State” I enjoy once in a while.  I don’t need anymore.  I had 3 CDs & gave 2 of them to my aunt in Alberta.  Hate them if you want but they’ve put in the work to get to where they are.  I wouldn’t call myself a BIG fan, but Nickelback has their place in the current music scene!

Friday ended with me doing dishes, running the dishwasher, & vacuuming.  Kim picked up some steaks to BBQ, then we watched the last 4 episodes of “The Ranch” on Netflix.  I started watching the baseball game right after.  Kim pipes up “Hey, let’s watch the rest of The Ranch”, I reply “We did, it’s done.  We finished the 5th season.”

She’ll leave her phone on the arm of the couch to do some stuff in the kitchen.  Someone will text, email or Facebook something, I’ll tell her or move it away.  It vibrates the entire couch, drives me nucking futz.  If I wanted a vibrating couch we’d likely have one, not a cell phone.

LANGUAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  & SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Saturday we were boring.  Laundry, cleaning & some sitting around watching www.youtube.com clips, like this almost 24 minute video.  Followed by supper & a baseball game.

Went out this afternoon to hang out with Chris, Laurie & their 2 kids.  Grabbed a few groceries for supper.  Then I’ll watch the Jays game well Kim finish’ her weekly spring cleaning.

20 years ago today, June 24, 1998 I had my high school graduation.  In the yearbook there’s a photo of me at the after grad party with the biggest cheesy grin you have ever seen!

METALLICA’S “HARDWIRED……TO SELF-DESTRUCT”

I used to just demolish Metallica whenever I heard a song or mention of their name, but no more, other than the album “St. Anger” which has 0 production of any kind.

This album was released in 2016.  I was 36 at the time.  Their first album “Kill em All” was released in 1983.  “Hardwired” was the first album I enjoyed of theirs.  Only took Metallica 33 years to release something I liked.  I had about 3 of their CDs & iTunes downloads.   The album with the symphony was decent, I didn’t listen to it much though.  I had “The Black Album/Self-Titled” album & “Master of Puppets”.  The first band I played in, everyone else was a fan of Metallica.  That’s why I had those 2 CDs.  I found “Hardwired” to be a ‘gateway’ album into the rest of their catalogue.  I now have all of their studio albums, & the live album with the San Francisco Symphony.  I do enjoy the albums I’ve heard so far.  I just need to listen to “…And Justice for All” & of course “St. Anger” sounds terrible due to the severe lack of production.

“Hardwired” was the album that grabbed me & made me finally pay attention.  I still think they’re over rated, but very talented.  Name another metal band that gets FM radio play as much as Metallica?

I’d say in the last 15-20 years my musical taste has changed drastically, listening to more heavy stuff.  I just find it easier to accept & listen to.  I can either ‘unplug’ & enjoy it or really think about what each musician is doing.

I always thought “Anthrax” was the perfect mix of metal & punk music, & they’re great.  This “Metallica” album does it really well.  It sounds nothing like “Anthrax”, just a different take on those influences.  Here’s one “Anthrax” tune followed by a few tracks from Metallica’s “Hardwired”

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

I fell asleep to “The Beatles” the album “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” followed by “Metallica” the album “Hardwired………..to Self-Destruct”

Friday ended with me drinking alone & watching the Toronto Blue Jays vs. the Cleveland Indians.  Both had the same win-loss record starting the game which the Blue Jays won 8-4.  The Jays are now 9W-5L.

Saturday we woke up before 8:00 am.  I rolled over & asked Kim what time it was, too early.  Grabbed my iPod Classic, which I’ve almost decided will not be replaced when it dies, then we went back to sleep & I put my iPod back on.  Saturday evening was my dad & brother’s birthday supper at my parent’s place.  Supper, brownies for Mitch, & a Chocolate Extreme Blizzard cake from Dairy Queen for dad.  Good times that went a bit longer than expected.  By 10:00 pm we were all a bit tired & cleared out fast.

The Blue Jay game Saturday in Cleveland was rained out.  Today’s is supposed to be rained out as well.  3 players are currently injured so collectively that’s $54,000,000 worth of players sitting on the bench & the short stop might have a career ending injury.  His contract runs out at the end of the 2020 season.  Teams have insurance incase this type of thing happens.

Typical Sunday for us, getting ready for the week ahead, laundry, groceries, make a vegetable juice, bake some fish, hard boil some eggs, etc.  I’ve got the “American Country Music Awards” recording for Kim.  How on earth did I get stuck with a country music fan?  Country & music don’t even belong in the same sentence most of the time.  Oh wait she HAWT, smart, funny, she loves me, etc.  I do like the Dixie Chicks though.

I don’t play my music when she’s home & she usually does the same.  I find it funny that country “music” has to have it’s own award show, because it doesn’t fit in with the cool kids.  Hahahahahaha!

Before I get into this I should say that “Live’s” albums “Throwing Copper” & “The Distance to Here” are legendary albums for me.

The first band I was in while in University played most of “Lightning Crashes” once in rehearsal, but none of us knew the bridge of the song.  We stopped at the bridge & just never bothered to learn it or play it again, we should have.

2002

QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE & FOO FIGHTERS

I got into “Queens of the Stone Age” when they released their 3rd album “Songs for the Deaf” in 2002 with Dave Grohl on drums for all of the songs & a short tour afterwards.  I was already into Foo Fighters, so to see Dave on drums in a “Queens” video was big for me.  I bought the album ASAP.  I listened to it a LOT & soon bought the previous 2 albums, I was hooked.  I was in SIAST but the “Queens” stuff was in a low tuning.  I learned some of it, but it was just a hassle to switch tunings on my guitar for “Queens” stuff & regular tuning for rehearsal.  Foo Fighters released their 4th album on Kim’s birthday that year in October.  Not their best album but also not their worst, but I’m biased when it comes to Foo Fighters……….

Dave Grohl played drums on this album & Elton John played piano on at least a few songs!

Godsmack is still around?  I didn’t even know?  I was never a fan though anyways.

Top 10 Tool songs according to Watchmojo.com.  I wouldn’t put them in any category, especially metal.

LANGUAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!         Any Tool fan that enjoys marijuana, doesn’t need to bring any to a Tool show, the rest of the audience will get you high on second hand smoke & the crowd also doubles as a fog machine for the band.

I think this guy is over a decade younger than me.  Although he says this ranking of “Muse” albums are just his opinion.

For me it would be “Showbiz”, “The Resistance”, “Drones”, “The 2nd Law”, “Origin of Symmetry”, “Absolution”, & finally “Black Holes & Revelations”.  I guess our opinions aren’t that far off after all.

I fell asleep to “Neil Young” his “Greatest Hits”

I exercised to “Tremonti” the album “Dust”

500 leg lifts, 200 pushups, planking, yoga, & 100 back flexes this past week.

That’s 100 leg lifts, 40 pushups, 20 back flexes, planking, & yoga 5 days a week.  First thing I do when I leave the bedroom, then breakfast & a shower.

On Thursday the planking & yoga did not happen.  I wasn’t able to have a nap on Wednesday when I woke up at 4:00 am tossed & turned until 5:00 am then got up.  I was over tired.  I slept in on Thursday, woke up & stayed in bed until 10:00 am.  I was very tired still & just said no to the planking & yoga.

As much as I don’t consider myself as physically handicapped, I’m reminded that I am physically handicapped every day.  “Wait, I have to get into my wheelchair to do anything” is my first thought every day.  I’m lucky though.  I can stand as long as I can hold onto something & put away dishes in the upper cupboards, I can go to the washroom as long as there is a handicap stall, my voice is getting better, it’s not great but it has definitely improved.  I do practice my guitar once a day for about ½ an hour.  I’ll likely never drive again, no biggie!  I don’t want cancer to define me even though it will be a part of my life, likely, until I die many years down the road.

The best part about having had cancer is that I don’t fear death like I used to.  I don’t welcome it, but I don’t fear it.  Now I’m “Satisfied” with my exercise, for a bit anyways.

Thursday evening at the moment.  To say I’m in a bad mood would be a HUGE understatement.  We lived in our first house built in 1955, new mid-efficiency furnace.  The pilot light went out once.  We moved to this condo on December 18th 2013.  Brand new place, we were one of the first 6 suites to move in.  The hallway is always cold!  Our suite is another story, we’re calling, again, for the A/C to be fixed.  It was +35 Celcius today, it’s 7:10 pm & it’s +26 degrees Celcius in here.  This will be the 7th time we’ve had to call about the A/C for our suite.  If you’re cold in the winter, come on over it’s probably beach weather here.

(+26 Celcius = 78.8 Fahrenheit, +35 Celcius = 96 Fahrenheit)

I can’t turn on the A/C in the winter & I’m not allowed to put tinfoil on the windows.  It has to be +15 Celcius outside for me to turn on the A/C. When it’s almost +30 Celcius inside, I don’t care what the temperature is outside.  Yes, we face south and get the sun all day every day.  I loathe the heat.  Why am I sweating at this time of day sitting on the couch watching TV?  This is likely the 7th time we’ve called in 4 years.  That’s likely an under estimated guess.

Well look at that, Kim woke me up before she left for work & had the A/C on.  The plumber came to look at it anyways & will come back next week to check on it.

If you’re here strictly for the cancer news, that’s all I have for you today.

Let me get this straight, & I’m not defending Kathy Griffin in any way.  She posts a photo of Donald Trump’s severed head & we all know it’s fake.  Trump says “She should be ashamed”, true, that was in very poor taste.  HBO airs a TV series, Game of Thrones, full of rape & multiple severed heads of kings.  Sure HBO tells you it’s full of R-Rated stuff, so they’re OK.  Did any political debate have a warning if Trump was involved in the debates last year?  I didn’t watch them all, but the ones I watched had no warnings?  Would anybody want to have their kid looking up to the current president as an idol?  For me they’re both wrong for what they’ve done.  It’s out there now.

I’m assuming the link below will not work by the time I post this.  All I can say about the situation is, Trump blurted things out on the campaign debates.  Kathy Griffin had time to think about what she was doing, it was pre-meditated.

18 years ago on May 31st In Flames released the album ‘Colony’!  I didn’t get into them until I saw them live in Saskatoon 11 years ago, yes I’ve got all of their albums & DVDs now.

Members of ‘Sevendust’, ‘Alter Bridge’, & ‘Tremonti’ gather to create the band ‘Projected’.  I guess they have some albums out on iTunes one from 2011 & 2012, as well as a single from 2011 & 2014.

Don’t most people of my generation miss Chris Cornell?  My favourite album from them is easily “Badmotorfinger”.  Thanks Corey McDonald!

‘Tool’ play “Eulogy” live for the first time in 16 years.  Is that when the last album was released?………………………………………………………………………..OH, that was in 2006.

I fell asleep to “The Watchmen” still hooked on the album “Live & in Stereo”

I exercised to “Paramore” the album “All We Know is Falling”

I cleaned to “Foo Fighters” the album “One by One”

I ramped up some of my numbers & added yoga to the routine this week.  Much better this way!  I wanted to get up early today.  I wanted to do some stuff around the house so I could watch the baseball game that starts in roughly 2.5 hours, so I went to bed at 9:30 pm.  I usually stay up until 10:30 or 11:00 and get up at 7:00 am.  Today I was out of the bedroom shortly after 5:00 am.  I’m done what I wanted to finish & now I’m tired & sweaty.  I did my exercise, had my breakfast.  Emptied the dishwasher & cleaned both washrooms & 7:50 am.

While I was cleaning the mirrors in the bathrooms, I noticed my beard has many grey/white whiskers in it!  I guess that’s to be expected, I’m 37 but I sure don’t feel like it!!!!!!!!  I stay up late & I like to get up & get things done so I have some free time, but today is already ridiculous!  I’m out now to see what else I can do around here before the ball game.

I will never force my religion on anyone.  I Anglican & if you’re not that’s fine with me.  Any religion or atheism is OK in my books, as long as you’re a good person.  It’s the radical extremists I’ll never understand.  What book are they reading, that their God tells them to kill others?

As George Carlin said, ‘Who created killing?’  His simple reply ‘Humans’ & he’s right.  I think every individual has the capability to kill, but the majority of us don’t since we know it’s not right!

As much as we hate, we also have the ability to be respectful & decent to each other.  Why don’t more people act on that trait?  Sure there are many things I don’t like, am I going to go so far to harm anyone who likes something I don’t?  No!  I’ll leave them be & find something else that I enjoy.

My intent is to be happy.  Killing or harming others is never something I’d do or take pleasure in doing.

Little LANGUAGE HERE!  “If an asshole hates me, that’s a good thing” – Jesse Hughes singer of “Eagles of Death Metal” after the attack in Paris.

If you’re here strictly for the cancer news, that’s all I have for you today.

Our Lady Peace & I Mother Earth were my first ‘rock’ bands I got hooked in high school in the 1990s.  Our Lady Peace’s first album “Naveed” took some warming up to it & now that’s my go to OLP album.  I Mother Earth’s 2nd album “Scenery & Fish” quickly became one of my favourite albums ever, both albums were Canada’s reaction/reply to the “grunge” movement in the USA.  OLP released their first album “Naveed” in 1994 & IME released their 2nd album “Scenery & Fish” in 1996.

Getting to see my first 2 rock bands from high school, late last year & on the weekend were both a real treat for me.  Of course I own all of the CDs, with the exception of the newest Our Lady Peace album which was released in 2012.

I remember driving 2 friends to high school with the 1st Our Lady Peace album on.  I said “These guys will be huge!!!”  They thought I was off of my rocker, & told me that it wouldn’t happen.  The first 2 singles on their 2nd album were HUGE hits.  I was right but the singer sounded as though he was whinier, that got a little worse with every release.  I should have stopped buying their music after the 4th album of 7 or 8?

Even live on Saturday they knew to play only 2 songs from their 5th album & everything else was from their 1st 4 albums.  They started with a song from the 1st album & finished with a song from the 1st album.

20 best-selling hard rock & metal albums in the USA.

I googled the top 20 best-selling albums in Canada & it wasn’t pretty.  I saw Aqua, Celine Dion, Shania Twain, & a few others.  Celine Dion & Shania Twain had multiple albums on the list.  I was unable to search for just hard rock & metal albums in Canada.  Apparently Canadians just ate this up though???????????????????????????????????  Oh, Canada  L  WHY??????

Describing the different subgenres of metal music sucks & ends up wasting my time in the end.  If non-metal fans want to know, I recommend watching the documentary “Metal: A Headbanger’s Journey”, the TV series “Metal: Evolution”, or they can continue their life calling it screamy music.  I just call it metal, I know what it means!

Alter Bridge will tour the crap out in Europe, have they ever played Canada?  Yeah, Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver.  That typical Canadian tour!  “Ah, there’s nobody else in Canada!”

This needs no explanation, just a good chuckle!

Our Lady Peace covers The Cars & The Beatles.  When I saw them in 1998, & they covered The Beatles, that’s when The Beatles’ White album became my favourite Beatles album!

Trivium shared it.  It’s metal…………………

Wonder Woman hits theaters on Friday.  I’m going to see it long after the hard core comic fans see it.

Lamb of God shared one of my favourite songs!  It’s metal…….

I guess the punk band “Rancid” are still around.  I like them but most of their album tracks are a little bit too much heavy punk for me.  This new song sounds quite a bit like their hit in the 1990s “Time Bomb”

The Toronto Blue Jays won 17-2 with 3 homeruns capped off with a grand-slam by Short Stop Troy Tulowitzki!  They won 6-4 Tuesday night on 4 home runs.  The question is, do they have any more of that left for today’s afternoon game?  How will the next 4 games go with the N.Y. Yankees in town?

I fell asleep to “Trivium” the album “In Waves”

I exercised to “Paramore” the first album “All We Know is Falling”

4 days of exercise remember.  Planking, 120 pushups, 200 leg lifts & 40 back flexes over 4 days

Planking, 50 leg lifts, 30 pushups, & 10 back flexes every day.  I get up when Kim wakes me up & leaves for work.  I put on my exercise clothes, exercise, have breakfast (Hardboiled egg, 2 Rice Cakes, Fruit juice I’ve made for the week in our Vitamix, black coffee, & a water bottle with me all day).  Then I clean myself up for the day & put on respectful/appropriate clothing for the day, yes, shorts are appropriate for winter!

This seems like a very small amount of exercise to me.  I’ll ad some yoga to this next week &/or ad some pushups.  I’m just not satisfied with my exercise routine at the moment, I want more!  I expect more from myself.  There’s always somebody doing better at anything.

Is this how you survive surviving cancer?  I’m making it up as I go.  I’m able to help out around the house more, that’s a good thing!  I have to get Kim to show me how to use our stove from the future again.  Buttons on a black surface?  It might as well be in a different language?

When I was in the WRC they had me in music therapy.  I wrote lyrics for a song that I was supposed to play guitar on, possibly do the entire song with supervision of my music therapist.  To this day, I can’t flash between any type of guitar chords.  Might take me a while, yes it is frustrating.  My brain knows what to do, my left hand strongly disagrees.

I was in a severe depression at the time.  Just balling 10-20 times a day.  I started crying during one of my music therapy sessions.  My therapist asked if she should give Kim & I a minute.  I told her “no”.  I didn’t need to hide it.  She asked what I did to get over one of those moments.  I simply said “I hug my wife & it goes away”

If you’re here strictly for the cancer news, that’s all I have for you today.

I’m so sick of hearing about another terrorist attack & more senseless acts of violence.  Don’t ask me why, but when I heard about the bombing in Manchester, I got very angry inside.  It’s just so stupid!  Here’s U2 on Jimmy Kimmel with their take on the situation.

I bought the Linkin Park album last Friday.  It’s not your regular Linkin Park album.  I don’t hear it as an album full of singles though.  It’s 10 songs that need to be heard 1 through 10.  Very mellow album.  The 2nd track is pretty much a straight up rap song, the majority of the album is Chester Bennington singing over delicate tracks.  If you’re looking for the typical Linkin Park album with him screaming the lyrics at you, you won’t find it here.

Long article/review of Alter Bridge live

http://thepopbreak.com/2017/05/24/alter-bridge-live-2017/

If you think for one second that any band or musician is creating music for the fans, sorry but you’re dead wrong.  If you’re not happy at your job would you do it?  I highly doubt it.  A band or musician will create the music they want to.  If you like it great!  If you don’t, get over it & move on.

Paramore’s performance on James Corden!

I had to share this with you since I forgot how much I like it.  My exercise music Thursday morning.  “Kyuss” the album “Blues for the Red Sun”.  This is the band bass player Nick Oliveri, & guitarist/singer Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age started!  Foo Fighters’ song “Outside” is based on Kyuss having to play outside in the middle of the desert since they refused to turn their instruments down.

These songs, ‘Outside’ & ‘No One Knows’ might not exist without Kyuss?

I don’t think most concert goers even care about extra security, security workers are seen but don’t usually factor in to the overall experience unless you’re doing something wrong.  The only interaction I’ve experienced with any security is a pat down & “Please take your cell phone back to your vehicle if it can take photos or videos”.  Yes, I had a flip phone in 2007.

At the moment “In Flames” & “Linkin Park” are under fire from fans about not being as heavy a previous albums.  Would you like Metallica if they just made the “Black” album & “Master of Puppets” forever?  Linkin Park already made “Hybrid Theory” & In Flames already made “The Jester Race”.  Look at those albums & say “Been there, done that”!  There’s no need to lash out to them on social media!  They’re making music they want to make, if you don’t like it, move on.  No the albums aren’t as heavy as past efforts.  They’re still good albums to other fans though.

Yay, System of a Down!!!!!!!!  15 songs written AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If there’s still the possibility of System of a Down, Queens of the Stone Age, & A Perfect Circle releasing new music, this could be a FANTASTIC year in rock & metal music!

In Flames shared it…….

I don’t think or know of any metal fans that have had this problem but people just assume you’re rude, atheist, music snob, drug users, etc.  The metal fans I know are cool, nice & unassuming.  I like metal but it certainly isn’t the only type of music I listen to.
