Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

Exercise total for 5 days.

500 Curls w/ 20 pound dumb bells

300 Shoulder raises/Chest presses w/ 10 pound dumb bells

900 Crunches

900 Leg lifts

300 Squats

600 Back flexes

Why don’t I go walking with my walker more often?  “No excuse” or reason, I’m just lazy.  I do all of that exercise over the course of a week & at the end of each day I just don’t feel like doing anything.  I should be walking once a day!  We’re also very set in our routine.  I guess I’ll have to chat with Kim since she’ll have to be with me if I fall & crack my head open.  If I’m in the hallway I should be OK since its flat ground.  If I go to our parking garage, it has ups and downs for drainage.  Outside is an entire different experience with cracks, holes, rocks, uphill, downhill, etc. thrown in randomly.  We just need to make walking part of our routine.

I’m on 7 different pills now.  While I was in the hospital & my rehabilitation therapies I was on 10, all of them have changed but one of them that I’d be on regardless of cancer.  My heartburn pill which I take one in the morning & one at night.  I’m on 3 anti-depressant pills.  2 at night which also act as sleeping pills & one every morning.  I’m on a thyroid pill for an under active thyroid gland once in the morning.  I’m on a pill to better control my bladder since I have to drink a LOT of fluids to avoid dry mouth from my other pills.  Finally the last pill of the lot is to prevent seizures.  I take one at night and ½ a pill in the morning.

This week in particular I’ve been drinking 5 liters of water, 1 or 2 Saskatoon Berry teas, and 2 or 3 Bubbly carbonated waters a day.  Not sure why but I must be thirsty?  I avoid coffee because I have a very high resting pulse & I don’t even know if we have any soda in our house?

Tuesday afternoon I spoke on the phone with a representative from www.sweetwater.com about ordering the S2 McCarty 594 through them.  Really nice guy!  Chatted for a bit and he told me that if he was considering the same thing I was asking about, he’d buy locally instead of a company in the USA.  I was asking because the retail price I the USA once converted to Canadian money went up only $6, here it went up $130 but the warranty, duty, shipping would be added to the price not making it worth it.  So for those reasons & the fact the guy I contact is REALLY good to deal with here & a familiar face, I’m sticking with ordering from the store here.

Next year I hope to order this….

…followed by a special order of this guitar when I have the cash.

https://www.schecterguitars.com/guitars/custom/tempest-custom-vwht-1-detail

The S2 McCarty 594 & the Schecter Tempest for sure.  Then I’m done shopping other than a $20-$30 slide since my old one disappeared while I was in the hospital, along with a few other small things.  No I don’t have G.A.S. (Gear Acquisition Syndrome) that’s for people with a heck of a lot more money than I have and have 40 guitars, 10 amplifiers, & 150 effect pedals….oh & jobs.  I don’t want that amount of stuff since I know it will be taking up space & going unused for months.  If it’s not seasonal & hasn’t been used in 6 months, why do I need it?  This is it, the 2 BIG ones!  Oh my F.O.M.O.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I wanted to get just another guitar, I could but it’s not the PRS S2 McCarty 594 or the Tempest.  It’s a used Mark Morton (Lamb of God) signature Jackson that brand new would cost $1600 + tax new.  It’s listed at $800 used.  Sweet deal, I can’t believe nobody has bought it yet?  Maybe everyone’s in a similar situation as me or they just don’t like it?

The Schecter website was down over the weekend & I was freaking out a bit!  It’s not about getting these guitars in my hands ASAP, I’m fine with waiting.  What concerns me is that every January (usually the 2nd week of the year) there’s a HUGE 4 day trade show called NAMM where different instrument makers release new products & eliminate others.  I’m worried about these guitars being discontinued before I have the opportunity to buy them, hence my F.O.M.O. (Fear of missing out).  They’ll both be ordered in separate years due to the price and take 6 months or more to be made.  I’m fine with waiting for them being made & any delays that occur but I don’t want to miss out on ordering them if they go out of production.  I’ve wanted that PRS S2 McCarty 594 for quite a while & it’s the more expensive one of my final 2 guitars that will definitely be ordered first, next February I hope.  Not at my limit of paying for a guitar, but close enough to make me worry about it being “so far away”.

Here’s an example.  The PRS S2 Custom 22 that I got in September 2020 after ordering it in January 2020 is now out of production.  Other delays along the way, I get it, not much anybody here could do about it.  Actually every guitar I own other than my signed Telecaster is out of production.  I can’t look them up on any website.  We’re not broke, but we don’t have a disposable amount of money for me to go out guitar shopping whenever I get the urge.  That’s why I spend FAR TOO MUCH time on the internet researching these purchases.

A lot of people sell guitars & other guitar gear to afford different guitar gear.  I prefer to know what I’m getting, what purpose it will have, & keep it for that purpose.  The guitar I bought in December and returned had a different type of fretboard wood that I couldn’t get comfortable with & the pickups were dull sounding to me.  As for the 7 string, I really wanted a 7 string that didn’t look all pointy with sharp corners as a metal guitar typically does.  Then I found out the hard way that I’m not a 7 string style of player.  I listen to that music but I don’t play it.

I have one amplifier, 2 effect pedals (also a tuner & a channel switching pedal) & hopefully 7 electric guitars in a variety of tunings, shapes, & colours, along with one acoustic guitar.  Kim says my acoustic guitar is too loud, I hit the strings with a lot of force on every guitar.

I was going to end this when I got my last guitar but that’s too far away!  So end of the year or one post into January.  I’ll carry on with my exercise routine though.  I don’t see much changing unless we buy a house next year?

It would be nice to sell our condo just to have a spare bed for out of town guests.  Nothing is confirmed on that decision yet though.  We’ll see what’s available at that time?  We both have a HUGE amount of doubt though.

We’ve switched our cable company twice, each time with a less expensive cable box to save money.  This is a case of you get what you pay for.  We missed Tuesday’s episode of “The Ellen Degeneres Show”.  I can’t wait to switch to a reliable DVR so I can watch baseball & other recorded shows.  The DVR we have now is cheap and you have to watch one channel if you’re recording another or record both & turn the TV off.  First world problems, but it’s annoying.  I couldn’t find the entire show on www.youtube.com.  I guess that’s OK, I watch enough www.youtube.com already.  It’s nice to sit on the couch and watch TV after spending most of the day in my wheelchair.  Problem with that is I usually get my acoustic guitar & practice while watching TV, that’s why Kim thinks my acoustic is too loud.

The annual “Telemiracle” fundraiser takes place from Saturday at 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Sunday this weekend.  They helped us out with multiple thousands of dollars towards a wheelchair van we used when I was able to go home on the weekends or out to the family cabin a few times.  For those who have never seen or heard of “Telemiracle” it’s a weekend long telethon and every local Saskatchewan TV station airs it featuring local talent which is typically live but pre-recorded this year and people are welcome to call in & donate to the charity.  Funds raised go towards helping people with disabilities.  I remember donating as a child the first time.  I asked my mother if I could donate $10.  She said yes and called in for me.  The last live concert I played was January 25th 2008.  It was a local rock show that we were asked to play with all of the funds going to that charity.  I think we played 2 benefit shows in separate years for that charity.  I’d go to the “Metal for Telemiracle” show & we’d play the “Rock for Telemiracle” show.  Both were organized by a good friend of ours who played in a band at the time that fit with both genres.  He now plays in “Room 333” with my brother.  Kim donated at the grocery store 2 weeks ago.  They do wonderful work for people in need!

You can find more info here

I believe it will be streaming on this website which is a free streaming app as well

I’m not sure why, but I keep adding to the list of songs I want to learn which is easily an additional 30+ songs to the 30something I continue to play.  When you hit that many and don’t sing them at the same time memory is a HUGE issue for me.  2 of my most recent partially learned additions are…

I don’t really learn a new song ASAP.  I look at it & play the basic parts of it to see how difficult it is, and go back to what I was learning.

For anyone not following the quarantine rules and think the rules are nonsense, think about it this way other than we know that vaccines are here & more are coming.  The more you obey & stick to health officials rules, the sooner those rules go away!  If you do that maybe you’ll get a lollipop when you get your vaccination?

Get ready everybody!  Any kind of artist music, writer, painter, sculptor, director, dancer, athlete, etc.  Have been locked up for a year and they all have stuff to show the world!  It’s going to be a swarm of creative projects coming at everyone who pays attention!

Looks like “Chevelle” are the next release for me on March 5th.

1050 Crunches

1050 Leg lifts

300 Squats

I’m going to stop writing this stuff at the end of 2021 or one post into 2022.  I’m getting pretty bored of writing this stuff.  I live it & regurgitate it to you & I’m pretty “simple” to begin with.  Eat, exercise, eat, shower, eat, play guitar, eat, play more guitar, have supper, watch TV, play guitar, sleep & repeat.

I’ll buy the PRS S2 McCarty 594 a soon as I have the cash.  When I order the PRS S2 McCarty 594, I’ll have to wait at least 6 months for it.  Then save and repeat but the wait might not be as long?  I’m excited to get any guitar but when I have the money (in a few years) & order this guitar, it’ll feel like another level!  I’m not undermining the importance and flexibility of other guitars I own, but this PRS S2 model is said to be THE guitar in the PRS S2 line!

After a TON of thought, the Schecter Tempest, although I REALLY liked the majority of what it offers, might be too similar in sound with a few less features compared to the McCarty 594.  I’ve also realized that I’m not a huge fan of the Stratocaster body shape, so as I was searching throughout last week & this gem kept showing up & won me over with a MUCH more different sound & MUCH lower price tag (less than $650 after tax), despite this purchase being many years away.

Go ahead guitar gear heads, it says “Squier” instead of anything else.  I’m not paying a ton of cash for a bigger brand name.  I’ve got a Fender & a PRS S2, good enough for me! Hopefully the split coil on the McCarty 594 is as good as they say.  A full on hollow body will be completely different from ANYTHING I have and be a great ending chapter to my guitar purchasing…if it’s still around.

I tried to force ‘guitar mojo’ on a Stratocaster, but that never works.  Had to be exactly what I wanted because I don’t want to shop for another guitar.  Guitars give me FOMO, fear of missing out, since I don’t have a disposable income for anything let alone guitars, so if they go out of production before I save the money to buy it, I get kinda sad.  I guess these purchases are more of a hopeful occurrence in the future.

Other than it being very cold in Regina this week, it’s been a good satisfying week of exercise.  Some ‘communication breakdowns’ getting all of my refills from the doctor to the pharmacy, but we got it figured out by the time I needed everything.

The Covid active cases are on decline throughout the province of Saskatchewan since January 12th.  As per the restrictions, nothing changes until further notice on February 19th.  I guess that’s fine, I would prefer tighter restrictions but I’m not a politician?

As I’ve said many times before, I really watch a miniscule amount of TV & I missed “The Ellen Degeneres Show” on her birthday show.  New DVR, so I don’t know if it was me, a user problem, or if something went wonky with the DVR box?

Right now I’m playing a handful of songs by “Pearl Jam”.

I’m continuously running through these “Stone Temple Pilots” song as well & other stuff too.  Keeps me busy.

The music I like is mostly from the 1990s, there’s usually some “Soundgarden”, “Alice in Chains”, “Rage Against the Machine”, “Audioslave”, & always “Foo Fighters”, etc. being played on guitar here.  Then as far as a little bit of metal goes “Metallica”, “Megadeth”, “In Flames, “Trivium” and eventually some “Lamb of God”.  For the 7 string it’s “Trivium” a dash of “Dream Theater” and I like coming up with stuff on the 7 string.

We’re watching TV Thursday evening.  Kim picks out a documentary & instantly grabs her cell as usual, & it drives me nutz!  I said to her, as I always do “You’re not even watching your show?”  I get the usual reply from her “I’m listening”.  Then I caught her with “But the show is subtitled and in Swedish?”  BOOM!

April 30th marks the 3rd album titled ‘Typhoons’ from “Royal Blood” who released a video for the title track!

Yes I still do yoga twice a week for roughly an hour over those 2 days.  It just seemed pointless to give an educated guess every week.  I have yet to go walking this year.  Earlier this week I completely phased out & almost got off the couch without holding onto my transfer pole or getting my wheelchair in place.  That could have been a REALLY dumb move on my part.

If you’re exercising a lot, I HIGHLY recommend not taking 2 weeks off & then expecting to do more once you return to your exercise routine.  It takes me until Wednesday to feel normal, then I feel lazy on Thursday after my exercises.

Ugly day here weather wise on Wednesday evening.  Lots of snow & the wind was at 120 km which is 74.5 mph.  Branches from trees & everyone’s barbeque fell over.  We heard trucks blowing they’re horns followed by a crash & sirens shortly after all through the night.  The hatch to the attic in the hallway was opening & slamming shut all night too.  Thursday was pretty quiet, many businesses were closed on Thursday and shoveling themselves out of the snow.  Tons of people weren’t on the roads on Thursday.  The roads are just a thick layer of ice.  It melted on Wednesday, then around 5:30 pm it got windy & snowy fast.  All of the water from the melted snow was all over the streets & froze later on.

I watched a few TV shows that started up this week since Covid started.  I think I’ve found some that I don’t care to watch already.  I’d rather play/practice guitar than watch TV.  I have 4 can’t miss TV shows a week.  “Prodigal Son”, “The Conners”, “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert”, & “The Ellen Degeneres Show”.  Just waiting for Blue Jay baseball & CFL football to start in the summer.  I’m Canadian so you’d think that I would be an NHL fan.  I’m not really, I’m a casual score board watcher.  NHL or hockey in general faded out for me in the 1990s.

I’ve learned these 2 songs & am speeding up the 3rd one on guitar so I think I’ll just continue practicing what I know for a while.

I just realized that I’ve been adding a little extra something that isn’t there and making the song below much more difficult for me, oh well I like it!

I’m speeding this up since I now know which finger goes where & when.

I watched what turned out to be 2:45 of a live stream 2021 Product Launch on www.youtube.com of PRS Guitars 6:00 pm – 8:45 pm with 2 very brief commercial breaks for PRS guitar maintenance kits.  10 new products were introduced & none of them made me rethink my decisions.  There were between 4000-4330 people watching at any given moment though, nice to know I’m not the only guitar geek out there.  Honestly some of the “new” products were a new colour option on a guitar & 6 new guitars, 4 of them were new acoustic models made in Indonesia.

Foo Fighters have released another song from their album “Medicine at Midnight” to be released on Friday, February 5th.

Last night on Jimmy Kimmel

Welcome back to the program!  You’re here so if you like what you see, might as well subscribe?  Either on Facebook or with your email in the bottom right corner, it’s really that easy & it’s free!  I know you want to tell your friends, go ahead!

I had 2 1/2 great days last week.  The domestic terrorism encouraged by the President greatly angered/saddened/depressed & made me react poorly on Fridays post.  That was not a reaction, it was edited many times & with each edit it came out the same.  I apologize if it affected anyone negatively but I don’t apologize for my feelings.  I do regret saying “For those that have ever approved of him & voted for him, you drank the Kool-Aid & screwed up BIG but you’re human & people make mistakes.” Trump supporters that weren’t involved in the riot, you’ve done nothing wrong & are entitled to your own opinion.  There were peaceful protesters at the Capitol building, that’s totally acceptable!  The people I have an issue with are the rioters & government officials that allowed the situation to get to this point despite WARNINGS from half of the world & multiple red flags from the President.  Most people saw something like this coming, how did the US government miss this?  All I ever want from someone is that they do their job.  I’d say let’s put it behind us, but something might still happen?  REALLY!  NO MEANS NO!

I don’t live there, politicians didn’t consider something of this magnitude happening, nobody listened to warnings over 4 years, & there’s not much I can do about it.

Thanks to everyone that participated in the guitar give away, & those tried to win the guitar for me!  I didn’t get the guitar, but thank you for entering the contest!

If the winner of this give away is reading this, CONGRATULATIONS!  It seems like a FANTASTIC guitar!

Now that the contest/lottery is over & I didn’t get that guitar.  I’ve decided that I’ll save table scraps to A) Buy the PRS S2 McCarty 594 then B) Buy the PRS SE “Paul’s Guitar”.  If the Core model is good enough for the owner, the cheaper SE model is great for me!  I’ll discuss this later on.

Big news in the music industry!  Gibson guitars bought the Mesa Boogie amplifier company.  Dave Mustaine of “Megadeth” left his endorsement deal with “Dean” guitars and is likely headed to “Gibson” or “Kramer” guitars for his endorsement deal that will likely feature a Signature line of Dave Mustaine guitars.  Gibson also announced a Signature line of bass guitars by Gene Simmons of “KISS”.

Mesa Boogie amplifiers were a BIG thing!  If you’ve ever listened to rock, metal, or Nu-metal from the ‘90s – early 2000s, you’ve likely heard a Mesa Boogie amplifier.  Dave Grohl even played through a Mesa Boogie amplifier for a few years as the lead singer of “Foo Fighters”.  The Gibson Company buying Mesa Boogie was not the BIG music news of the week it was more that Dave Mustaine, fired from “Metallica” in the 1980s, has left his endorsement deal at “Dean” guitars but “no one knows” what Company he’ll go to as of this writing on Monday, January 11th?

Gibson guitars have released a signature line of Gene Simmons bass guitars.  I’m indifferent to this announcement, I’ve never played Bass guitar, I’ve never been a fan of “KISS” despite knowing some of their material & I’ve never been a fan of Gene Simmons despite watching his early 2000s reality show.  His kids are AWESOME based on what I saw on the TV series.

Regarding this opinion above, to say that “KISS” is irrelevant does & doesn’t make sense.  I think “KISS” is a band you’re either a HUGE fan of or just don’t care for their music.  The most modern & relevant guitar player endorsed by Gibson is Dave Grohl & Matthew Heafy of “Trivium” as far as I know?  Dave Grohl has a signature Hollow body Trini Lopez DG-335 which I believe is made by Gibson guitars, however I don’t believe it is in production for the average consumer?  I own a Matthew Heafy signature 7 string Epiphone Les Paul.  Which is now out of production but will be returning to production with different specifications.  I wanted the original version because it was a normal/non-metal looking 7 string guitar.  I do not see myself even considering another 7 string guitar.

The fact that Gibson has an iconic name on a bass guitar line is great, whoever it is.  I don’t see anything HUGE that makes it a Gene Simmons model.  It’s a traditional/common body shape.  If you like KISS and play bass guitar you’ll likely want one, & the price will jump much higher for that line because of the name affiliation.

I’d love to own a DG-335, a Mark Tremonti signature Core PRS in any colour other than black, or a “Paul’s Guitar” either an SE or super expensive Core model since I didn’t win the SE giveaway.  The most realistic one here is the “Paul’s guitar” PRS SE, although it’s still expensive for a guitar made oversea.

This is THE time for instrument geeks!  This is the time of year when 100s of companies roll out their new models & additions to their brand.  The news is just trickling out now, since it will be online instead of a 4 day trade show in California, but all should be revealed by the end of next week.

When I eventually purchase this guitar, it will the same colour as in the video but with the shape of a Les Paul, since that’s the wiring format of it.

Whenever this buying opportunity rolls around in the next 20 years, the “Paul’s Guitar” SE will look like this…

…by that time I will have likely sold some guitar stuff.

You’re probably asking “Why does this guy need more guitars?  He’s just wasting money!”  That’s a fair question.  I don’t need or want the same guitar ever & the only thing every guitar has in common is the neck of the guitar & that can be a different size/shape on any guitar.  I literally spend nothing over the course of a week, maybe $15/month other than groceries.  When I say I’m saving table scraps for stuff I want, that means no Christmas or Birthday gifts, just substitute money instead of gifts until these guitars are purchased.  I’m not about to tie up our shared income for myself, we’re using that for renovations at the moment & hopefully find a house in 2022.  If that means guitar purchases get pushed back, I’m more than OK with that.  Who knows maybe after I purchase the PRS S2 McCarty 594 I won’t want the “Paul’s Guitar” but I’m willing to wait for the “Paul’s Guitar”, there’s no rush to get it tomorrow & I’ll have to save up for both anyways.

I put a bunch of songs on hold to fully learn these 4 song’s on guitar.  I know with practice they will come along, one at a time.

I’m really focused on learning these 4 songs to add to my arsenal of stuff I like to play and find challenging to learn.  No you haven’t seen or know everything I’m working on guitar wise.  Those will start this week as I finish learning this song.

Honestly I’ve skimmed over a few of these songs a few times with a guitar in hand.  The videos I’ve previously posted are more of a “work in progress” or status reports.  Not something I’d play on stage for an audience that paid to hear it.  I figure I’ll learn a handful of songs & just play them into the ground, Kim’s gonna have issues, although that new amplifier I bought in December is FANTASTIC even at low volume levels, should I tell her that?

I was finding it difficult to find songs I want to learn on a 7 string guitar…HELLO www.youtube.com I’ll be busy for months learning this mountain of glory!  Oh man am I gonna push myself learning that stuff.  That’s no walk in the park!  CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!

I know I’ve said it more than once but the PRS “Paul’s Guitar” SE will truly be my final purchase.  It’s getting cramped in this room & after that purchase my guitar stands will be full.  Also other guitars are not nearly as desirable or worth saving money for, to me.

I’ve been sad/angry/depressed/disappointed & have not slept well after the events in the USA since they happened on Wednesday.  Sunday night was the first time I slept well since then.

Exercise total for 5 days.

500 Curls w/ 20 pound dumb bells

300 Shoulder raises/Chest presses w/ 10 pound dumb bells

900 Crunches

900 Leg lifts

300 Squats

450 Back flexes

1:05 hour of yoga over 2 days

I don’t need to do this all year, so this will be the last update for 2020.  My full exercise is done for the year, over the next 2 weeks I’ll be doing ½ the amount of exercise as you see above.  Beyond daily stretching & yoga a few times, likely more crunches as well.  I’m feeling great but my body will welcome a break.

My food intake will stay the same.  There won’t be any guests here over the holidays, so we won’t be putting out chocolates or other holiday treats.  Other than Christmas Eve & day, my food will stay the course.  It’ll still be water & a bit of tea for fluids.  Probably some Light Eggnog with Skim milk.  Alcohol will be minimal.  I do drink some gin but I’ve had a 26 ounce bottle in our liquor cupboard since May & it might be down 8 ounces.  When it’s gone nothing but Baron Samedi Spiced Rum & the odd craft beer will be purchased.  Even our “Bubbly” carbonated flavoured water has been here for over a month.

I say that & there was a sale on craft beer from Rebellion Brewing in Regina on Wednesday.  32 ounce growlers filled for $7, I got 2 growlers filled (4 pints in total) I enjoy trying different flavours of craft beer.  Kim even got a can of Sour Raspberry.  We bought the beer on Wednesday, I won’t touch it until later on today, tomorrow or next weekend?

This has been my year.  I dropped 57 pounds, I feel much stronger, and I like to think I’ve made progress (positively) on my mental health & knee jerk reactions.  I’ve also made a TON of progress on guitar.  I know more about music theory, still not much & I’ve learned a lot more about the instrument & how everything works as well as how to fix some issues.

The dark red burst Wolf brand Les Paul will be my final guitar purchase.  I can say that with a strong conviction.  I like the different sounds of “Humbucker pickups”.  I’ll have 7 different guitars with different “Humbucker” pickups & a Telecaster with a lipstick pickup & a single coil pickup.  I’m not a big fan of single coil pickups & I don’t need any different sounding humbucker guitars.  I’ve found that most of what I listen to has big sounding humbucker pickups.  There’s also that money issue, in that I need to start putting money away for 20 years down the road, but I can only save $5000/year for the next 10 years for the government to add to my RDSP, which I can’t touch until I’m 60.  I’m 40 until late January.

PRS S2 McCarty 594, amplifier & foot switch followed by the Wolf Les Paul & I’m spent as far as large purchases go, literally.

I prefer the new red wine burst, the darker one.

Comparable but WAY more expensive.

Both of these look GREAT but are far beyond my price range & wildest dreams.

The BIG things coming up for us are renovations & Brewster’s health.  I’m pretty sure this will be his last Christmas & January 31st he’ll turn 15 which will likely be his last birthday, but I hope I’m wrong.  I know I’ll be a mess for sure.  I don’t even like thinking about it.  I’m never alone since he’s got severe anxiety if one of us isn’t here!

We got rid of our streaming box yesterday.  No cable since noon yesterday until sometime tomorrow, oh well?

This is what I’ve been working on for songs on guitar this week.

All of those above are good & just need repetition.  I started working on the following song Wednesday afternoon.  Had to figure out some other parts that weren’t in the tab for it.

I guess this song by “Dead Sara” will be on their next/3rd album which is still being recorded.

HAVE A GREAT HOLIDAY SEASON & BE WELL ALL!  I’ll check my email, Facebook, & this site throughout the holidays.  I’ll return to blogging on here on Tuesday, January 5th.

Welcome back to the program!  You’re here so if you like what you see, might as well subscribe?  Either on Facebook or with your email in the bottom right corner, it’s really that easy & it’s free!  I know you want to tell your friends, go ahead!

I’m not leaving yet for the year.  I’m not sure when I’ll stop until the New Year, as far as posting on this website goes?  I know that after my exercises on the morning of Friday, December 18th I will finally take the rest of the month of from exercising.  I might get bored & do some exercise for fun though?

I get serious anxiety playing guitar on camera, yet these people who are physical handicapped without arms, hands, or legs are just fine on camera & are GREAT on their instruments!

Kim spent the weekend dealing with our Christmas tree & the bogus lights that were changed last year & again this year.  It looks like Christmas around here, still doesn’t feel like it yet.  I don’t know how much it will feel like Christmas this year without significant amounts of family members around?

Our movie shelf is gone.  All of the DVDs & Blu-rays fit into 4 large Tupperware bins.  We’re keeping 2 & the other 2 are movies we’ll sell or donate once everyone we can think of has picked through them.

We got some ideas from the interior designers that were here a few weeks ago.  We’ll start with paint & lighting, they’ll help us along the way with a few ideas.

Everyone is so divided on EVERYTHING that it really doesn’t even remotely feel like the holidays.  Politics, climate change, Covid, racism, etc.  With us all physically distancing it feels even worse.  Now people have to disagree & argue over zoom.  Not the same as being in person & having an emotional resolve.  Everything seems to feel fake, like we’re just going through the motions until there’s a vaccine.

We have one month left in 2020, why not try to make it GREAT!?  Be VERY safe & abide by all of the local restrictions, but make this an incredible month!  The more you put into it, the more you get out of it.  I’m going to keep exercising, eating healthy, & practicing guitar.  There’s no reason for me to give up now & I don’t think anyone else has a reason to give up either.  Even Donald Trump hasn’t given up & he’s one with proof that he should.  I’ve never seen someone work so hard to keep a job they don’t want to do?

I’ve been saying since January that this will be my year, & it will!  I might not be able to walk, I’m getting much closer to physically being able to play guitar like I did before cancer, & I’m not the big jerk I was right out of the hospital in July of 2012, I hope.  I feel much better physically & mentally.  If I’m claiming 2020 as my year, there’s no reason you can’t do the same or at least make December a fantastic month.  It’s only as good as you make it.  If you want it to slip through your hands or make it great, that’s up to you.

I know people are dying because of this virus, are you still alive?  Keep fighting even if you are sick!  You’ve got this & everybody else will hopefully be doing the same thing!

SMART KID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sure I still have a long list of things to accomplish & improve upon.  I will know every time I look in the mirror that I busted my butt this year.  I’ve never been able to say that before, I’m not a confident person.  I can finally say with certainty that I did what I set out to do this year.  I can actually think to myself in reflection “Hey that wasn’t bad at all.  Nice work, keep going.”

Its December 1st you have a month to do what you want with it.  I had to gather myself & get my butt in gear multiple times this past year.  I’m not going to tell you what to do, but there’s no shame in asking for help or pausing briefly to sort things out.  I need to work on being a better husband, nephew, son, son-in-law, brother, brother-in-law, cousin, friend, human, ‘uncle’, & whatever else I am to someone.  I also need to rectify the effects of cancer on me more than I did this year.  I’m not ashamed to tell myself “I can do better”.  I always expect more from myself.

I did it!  Kim kept telling me I’d find another guitar I want & I try not to disappoint her.  I’m not going to tie up our funds, saving for it & it’s nowhere near the price I’ve paid in the past.  At least she thinks this one is pretty from the photo.

I’ve converted the price, tax, shipping & the duty to ship it here and it’s very comparable to buying an Epiphone guitar.  Epiphones aren’t this nice looking.

There’s no rush for the pretty red guitar.  Hopefully I’ll order the PRS S2 McCarty 594 in the spring…

…followed by the purchase of the amplifier & footswitch…

https://www.long-mcquade.com/154076/Guitars/Guitar-Amps/Boss/Katana-50-MkII-Combo-Amplifier.htm

https://www.long-mcquade.com/12567/Guitars/Guitar_Effects/Boss/FS-6_-_Dual_Footswitch.htm

…and then the more affordable/pretty red guitar.  I was going to return to buying CDs, but it’s just not worth it.  Lots of streaming music, some iTunes & 3 local bands on CD.  As for selfish material objects, I choose guitars.  I only wish it hadn’t taken me 40 years to figure it out?  Live & learn I guess.

I drink water 99% of the time, I don’t eat junk, I don’t purchase much music anymore, I don’t purchase movies since we’re selling ½ of ours, we don’t go out for meals or drinks, we don’t travel at all, I’m cutting back on concert going as to who & where, etc.  I like guitars, I play guitar, and I still like guitars, maybe not as much as he likes beer, but pretty close.

I didn’t forget about prioritizing things long before the red Les Paul is purchased.  Kim, Brewster, renovations, house (I hope), this families go fund me page, etc.

If I wanted to, I could order the red guitar & buy the amplifier in the spring.  The PRS S2 McCarty 594 takes priority over my other stuff.

I’m going to do the same amount of exercise this week.  The next 2 weeks I’ll do roughly ½ the amount of exercise, then stretching & some yoga until the New Year.  This website isn’t done for the year yet, I’ll be back on Friday as usual.

I figured that since I’m in drop D tuning working on “Stone Temple Pilots”.  I might as well learn some other stuff I like in drop D tuning since Monday was an accomplishment day on about 5 songs.

Yes, the video for the song below was released in 2002 & immediately banned from TV.  Here’s the song with the album artwork instead.

I just continue to play the following song, also in drop D tuning because it’s fun to play.

Swedish melodic death metal band “In Flames” released the ballad from their 2019 album ‘I, The Mask’.   GREAT ALBUM!

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

Exercise total for 5 days.

500 Curls w/ 20 pound dumb bells

300 Shoulder raises/Chest presses w/ 10 pound dumb bells

900 Crunches

900 Leg lifts

300 Squats

450 Back flexes

1:15 hour of yoga over 2 days

Sorry about the last post?  I felt as though I was being judged, I don’t know why or by who?  It felt like I had someone watching my every move.  I just wasn’t comfortable.  It was in my head.  I was confused more than anything.

There’s “no doubt” that 2020 has been terrible & stubborn.  Even more stubborn than Donald Trump on the election results, at least he’s focused.  I called it at the start of the year that 2020 was going to be my year.  “So far so good”, I’m feeling very good physically & improving mentally, I hope?!  Relearning guitar is a bit slower than I’d like but this has been a VERY good week of playing through stuff I’ve learned, both new & old to me.  Sort of realized I was looking for perfection instead of just playing…if that makes sense?

WOW, I miss “No Doubt”, 1990s teenager.

I REALLY miss live music!  I have nothing planned as far as concerts go until this virus is seriously under control.  We’re currently using a streaming box for TV, cheaper in order to save some money.  The streaming box has VERY poor software in it, I watch TV, but it’s incredibly slow and makes me want to avoid TV as much as possible.

My immediate family is good.  My mother just told me on Monday that my uncle has been in the hospital for 2 months because his knee bent the wrong way.  From what I hear he’s doing well.  He’s walking in parallel bars, he was in a wheelchair before his knee went out, that’s good to hear.  Meanwhile my great aunt & uncle have tested positive for Covid a few days apart, so from what I know they’re doing well & one’s in the basement while the other is on the main floor in Manitoba.

Covid restrictions for Saskatchewan were increased Wednesday night.  They take effect today as the new cases continue to rise.  They’re in effect until at least December 17th, unless they need to be revisited in that time.

I realized this week I just love Les Paul guitars.  I don’t really care what brand it is.  Les Paul guitars are known for being physically heavy.  Lots of players don’t like that about them.  My first guitar was a Les Paul styled guitar, so I’m used to playing a 9 pound guitar.  I really like the versatility/electronics of a Les Paul guitar.  The guitar I’m saving for will be in a lighter body but designed electronically to work like a Les Paul guitar.  Why so many guitars?  They’re different colours, 4 of the songs mentioned in this post are in different tunings, they all sound different, & I’ve heard that the optimum number of guitars to own is whatever you own + 1.  Hahahahahahahahahahaha!  In all seriously, Kim worked until 7:00 pm on Wednesday, I need to stop spending money so she doesn’t have to work so much.

When I go to see “Big Wreck” on tour, the singer brings 10-15 guitars on tour with him.  Why?  Big Wreck have a TON of songs in different tunings.  As of their 6th studio album release 4 of their songs are in more common tunings that I play in.  I can’t play like him & I don’t need 15 guitars.

Our living room floor has been covered in DVDs & Blu-rays.  We’ve sorted out the ones we want to keep and the ones we’ll sell.  Out of the 300+, if not more, that we have I’m guessing we’ll keep ½ of them.  I hope this was worth our time?  A friend of a friend is interested in what we have.  I kept my favourite TV series, favourite movies, special edition movies, & some box sets of multiple movies.

I was trying to watch TV on our streaming service we changed to last week to save money.  I’m pretty sure it has cutting edge technology as of 1965?  It has VERY inept software.  It’ll be switched in the not so distant future.  Not what we had before, but a cheaper version of what we previously owned.

I’m doing my thing & feeling stronger.  Even playing guitar felt as if I had gone to the next level this week.  Practicing different scales & individual notes has really helped my hand coordination.  I didn’t do much of that before.  I was always a singer filling in with chords & little riffs.

I was playing through these songs that I sort of knew by memory.  I decided to take out my song books & learn the proper arrangements.  I realized the next day that I was in my head, trying to be too perfect instead of just having fun.

^^This could still use some cleaning up which it will get but it’s up to tempo.  The song below is there now & will get even better as I play it.

I started learning the song below on Wednesday. All of my scales & finger exercises make a HUGE difference in playing the little riffs between the chords.

I don’t know if this giant leap is because I’m playing guitar so much or because I’m practicing scales & exercises now, probably both.  This is MUCH easier than I ever would have imagined!

I’m still listening to the new “Sevendust” & “Nothing but Thieves”, but I’m sure you’ve heard enough about how much I like those albums.  I’ve been running through a few other songs on guitar too.

Next fairly easy song to learn after looking at the tab last night

I fell asleep to “Stone Temple Pilots” the album “Purple”

I exercised to “Dave Matthews Band” the album “Under the Table & Dreaming”

Canada got its country wide address from our leader on Monday regarding the virus.  I figured I should mention something about it.  Stay home, stay safe, don’t be a hero until called upon, let the professionals dictate the plan of action.  Don’t freak out, it won’t solve anything.  There’s a time to question authority, this isn’t the time.  Most importantly BE A GLOBAL CITIZEN….FOR EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  We’ll check with our neighbors to see if they need help with anything every few days.

It’s shortly after 6:00 am Sunday morning.  Brewster is my child but also a mama’s boy.  Kim’s on a girl trip with some friends at a spa, his mama’s not home.  He sleeps all day, eats & then wakes me up at 5:00 am to get up on our bed.  I stayed up until 12:30 am.  I get up, throw on some clothes & brush my teeth as he’s growling at me like it’s the end of the world.  I wish he could talk, all he wanted was up on our King size bed.  So here it is 6:22 am, I’m wide awake & our 12 pound Bichon/Shi-tzu is curled up in the middle of our King Size bed asleep.

I’ve noticed the past 2 or 3 weeks that I tend to go to bed earlier & sleep in a little bit later.  It used to be I’d go to bed around 10:30 or 11:00 pm and get up before 8:00 am.  Now it’s 9:30-10:00 pm and sleep until 8:30-9:00 am.  I don’t know if my age is catching up with me, if I’m more tired from a more intense workout, or if it’s finally the effects of cancer wearing off & now I sleep more.  I was on some HEAVY sleeping pills while I was in my rehab.  Strong enough to take down a horse for 4 days, me maybe 2 hours if I was lucky.  Sucks being that tired every day when you have a full day of physiotherapy the next day.

We watched “Bombshell” Friday evening & on Saturday I watched “Willow” that I haven’t seen since ‘Laser Discs’ were a big deal.

I was appalled…again…by the events that took place in 2015 at FOX.  Absolutely disgusting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You’re likely bored with me blabbing on about guitars by now.  They’re brand new to me again but I know more about them.  For me it’s reconnecting with an old friend.

Paul Reed Smith is a guitar player, builder, and began fixing guitars in high school, so I fully believe he knows what he wants out of a guitar & knows what any guitar player would want!  I’m sold on that company!  If I had the cash & was beginning to get into guitar, I’d eventually get 3 PRS SE models & one random acoustic hybrid.

I was going back to buying CDs, but the more I think about, it I’ll switch to streaming music from iTunes, I hate streaming music with a passion!  I’ll save my pennies for a “Paul’s Guitar SE” in the “Aqua” colour if it’s still around.  Decision made, this could take a decade or more?  I wouldn’t do it if I didn’t think it was worth it.  Brewster’s health, hopefully a house sooner than later, & a trip for Kim before a new guitar happens.   Kim helped me pay for the more expensive PRS S2 I ordered, so fair is fair (I have no desire to travel, I just want to be with my wife).  Why, you ask?  I’m not a very interesting guy, but my tastes are expensive.  My AWESOME wife, rum, & guitars.

There’s a PRS guitar that does even more cool stuff, it’s not something I’m interested in though, as are any other guitars.  All this really means is that I’ve made the decision to get it for the different pickups, bridge, more electronic options & colour difference.  So instead of saying “probably not” in the future, I’ll say “hopefully so” in the future.  I do have a rule about having too many guitars though.  If a guitar sits un-played for more than 2 days, there’s no need for it!  Right now the 4 electrics & are used daily, acoustic probably 4 days a week as I’m watching TV.

I bring in under $40,000 a year at the moment.  My RDSP which triples the $5000 limit I’m allowed to contribute annually until I’m 50 is locked in & untouchable until I’m 60 (20 years).  Saving for an “inexpensive”/”low end” $1300 PRS SE could take quite a few years.  It’s still in the distant future but it’s no longer a maybe for me.

January 25th, 2008 was the last time I played on a stage.  It was very fitting in retrospect.  We played for free with all of the funds going to a charity that helps with medical needs for the disabled.  My family ended up receiving $11,000 from that charity to put towards an $18,000 wheelchair van Kim & I used for 3 years.  I lived in the hospital full time & sometime in 2009 (after my birthday in January) I moved to the Wascana Rehabilitation Center where I eventually was able to go home on the weekends, to eventually going home overnight after my physio & other therapies were done by 4:00 pm.

As for a house, well we’ve had a lot of showings but no offers at all & despite that there’s one possibility on the market for us.  I’m not holding my breath on getting a house.  It’ll happen when it happens.  We talked about it last night.  With what’s going on in the world right now, the house contract ends at the end of March & we’re off of the market then.

Kim is likely very happy that sports in general have been suspended & the baseball regular season has been postponed until mid-May at least.

2 of my guitars took a little tumble today, nothing too drastic just cosmetic scars.  My Epiphone “Grohl” Explorer is missing a small chunk of the body & my new 7 string has a little dent on the back of the neck.  I tuned them up, played them & nothing to worry about.  My Fender Telecaster is the only electric out of 4 that still looks new other than the autograph.

I may have bought my acoustic guitar before this but this is my electric Epiphone Explorer from Kim in our first year of dating on Christmas of 2002.  Meet my “Grohl” (he’s photographed with a Gibson Explorer on Foo Fighters’ 3rd album, There is Nothing Left to Lose).  My guitar has a nasty scratch on the back of it, I guess all that means is that it has been played a lot, & it was my backup or differently tuned guitar to “Kermit”.

180 Shoulder raises/Chest presses w/ 10 pound dumb bells

400 Crunches

300 Leg lifts

200 Squats while balancing on my toes.

200 Back flexes

268.5 meters = 880.9 feet walking distance.  No rest period.  Quality not quantity!

2 days of yoga

I fell asleep to “Stone Temple Pilots” the album “Purple”

I exercised to “Audioslave” the album “Audioslave”

Everything is going really well, just a minor hiccup this week.  I like to get up early & get things done typically.  Tuesday my body refused to get out of bed until 10:00 am?  I got up & did my exercises ASAP, ended up being a shorter day than usual but still a beneficial day.  I managed to get more repetitions in during my exercise.

Wednesday was worse I slept/stayed in bed until 11:20 am.  I only got up because I had to pee.  I decided to skip my morning exercises & just go walking with my walker when Kim got home.  I had to do something?  I was too tired to even pick up a guitar for a productive practice.

Not sure what was going on.  I go to bed between 10:00 – 10:30 pm every night as usual.  Wednesday seemed REALLY short.  Did my walking when Kim got home & near the end of 268.5 meters of walking I got hot & tired.  A couple of minor hiccups near the end as I got tired, but I guess that’s to be expected.  Overall it wasn’t bad.  It finally felt somewhat normal to walk.  I didn’t have to think about certain aspects of walking, my body was doing a lot of things naturally.  I was pretty happy with that!

Get up Thursday morning at 8:00 am & everything feels right again!  Breakfast, exercise, coffee and a snack, shower, lunch, etc & all is in order.

Once this is posted, my long weekend starts!  3 day weekend in parts of Canada.  Monday is “Family Day” & there is some family coming to town.  Should be a great weekend!

“Lamb of God’s” “Laid to Rest” was my favourite metal song & favourite metal band but “Trivium” & their song “Heart from Your Hate” are really making a run.  The last “In Flames” album from the Swedish metal group was FANTASTIC too!  Those have been my 3 favourite metal bands since I heard them in 2005-2006.  Trivium & Lamb of God are easily in my top 10 bands overall.  Yes, Metallica, Pantera, & Megadeth are among my favourite metal groups.  Foo Fighters & Big Wreck always share the absolute gold standard for me musically, out of any bands!

HAPPY, HAPPY, JOY, JOY “Foo Fighters” are done recording the new album!  It’s a podcast, there is LANGUAGE!  Skip ahead to the 45 minute mark if you’d like to hear Dave Grohl.  I zipped through the interview but didn’t hear about a release date?

I fell asleep to “Queen” the album “A Day at the Races”

I exercised to “Black Sabbath” the album “Heaven & Hell”

I had a list of albums that I grabbed this year, & it disappeared.  These are the albums of the year that stuck with me & are VERY memorable for me.  When I say “metal” do me a favour & don’t freak out about the vocals.  I don’t think I bought an album this year with ‘growling’ or ‘screaming’ on it.  A lot of metal vocalists are very well trained at their craft, even the ‘screamers’ out there.  It’s hard to do that.

I’m sure there were more albums that I bought, but these are the ones that caught my attention the most.

PLEASE REMEMBER THESE ARE JUST THE ALBUMS THAT I HEARD & LIKED.  FEEL FREE TO VOICE YOUR OPINION ON ANY MATTER HERE!

“Opeth” the album “In Cauda Venenum”

Yeah it’s a progressive rock/metal/soft-rock album from the Swedish group.

“P!nk” the album “Hurts 2B Human”

You know who she is more than likely.  I do like her previous release “Beautiful Trauma” a bit more, but there was nothing wrong with this one!

“Dream Theater” the album “Distance Over Time”

Progressive metal out of the USA, no this guy doesn’t growl or scream.  He’s a classically trained singer.  Usually someone says “metal” and everyone else freaks out about the vocals being scary.

“Alter Bridge” the album “Walk the Sky”

Based in Florida.  6th album & living in Western Canada, I’ll never see them live.  I think they’ve done the Montreal & Toronto tour twice since 2004.

“I Built the Sky” the album “The Zenith Rise”

Instrumental metal that REALLY shocked me, in a good way.  I’ve never heard anything like it and this is their 5th release.  I’ve got this album & I’d like to get 2 other albums by them.

“TOOL” the album “Fear Inoculum”

The only reason this wasn’t my favourite album of the year was that it’s just SO long.  “TOOL” is a band that you listen to & focus on nothing else, like most music is meant to be heard.  There are so many layers to this album & 6/10 songs are well over the 10 minute mark.  I’ve only had time to focus on it once.  It’s not an album full of singles either, it’s an album.  “Fear Inoculum” is roughly 7 minutes longer than their 1999 album “Lateralus”.  The difference is that “Lateralus” has 13 songs opposed to 10 on “Fear Inoculum”.  I can listen to 7 songs on “Lateralus”, come back later & listen to the rest.  I don’t like doing that with “Fear Inoculum”, I want to listen to it from start to finish with no separation.  I don’t have 1 ½ hours to focus on an album every week?

“In Flames” the album “I, The Mask”

Another Swedish metal band.  If you want to call these vocals “screamy” go ahead.  They’re called a “Swedish melodic death metal band” emphasis on the ‘melodic’ portion though.  He sings with an odd tone.

“Big Wreck” the album “…but for the sun”

I thought this was just my favourite “Big Wreck” album, turns out it’s one of my favourite albums of all time by a Canadian band not well known outside of Canada.  They’re a rock band & if you’ve never turned on a rock radio station in Canada or if you’ve lived under a rock since the late 1990s, you’ve never heard of them.

Honourable mentions. Billie Eilish’s “When we all fall asleep, where do we go?”, “Of Monsters & Men” the album “Fever Dream”, Mark Morton “Anesthetic”, & “Jimmy Eat World” the album “Surviving”.

As for future out of province concerts, I’m going to scale that WAY back.  Too much money I don’t have.  There had better be a show in Calgary, Alberta or Winnipeg, Manitoba & no more than 2 out of province shows a year, if that.  Hopefully there are more shows here in Regina or 2 ½ hours away in Saskatoon.  I’ll go to Moose Jaw (45 minutes away) if they ever get an act that intrigues me.

“Paramore” news…

YAY!

What else to expect in 2020?  Chevelle, Lamb of God, Megadeth, The Pretty Reckless, Stone Temple Pilots, Into Eternity, Third Ion, Foo Fighters, Evanescence, Testament, Trivium, and more?  Most of these are rumored releases.

HOLY SMOKES!!!!  “Stone Temple Pilots” already have a preorder for their acoustic album “Perdida” for full release on February 7th.

25th anniversary for “Foo Fighters” & from the looks of their Facebook page they’re recording or might have already?

Gave my guitars a good workout yesterday.  After 3 ½ months of 45 minutes to 3 hours a day, 5-6 days a week I’m pretty much back to where I was on guitar when I got sick.  6 Foo Fighters songs down, added in parts I’ve never attempted, very close on 2 Metallica songs, a few other simple songs down, new chords, a handful of other riffs too.  All rhythm & hooks, I’ve never played guitar solos.  Feels so gratifying!!!!!!!  I forgot how much I missed it!  You have no idea how happy I am with this!!!!!!  I was so happy I almost broke down with tears of joy!!!  Just a few seconds behind the real tempo but just a little more polishing to do.

I’ll figure out how to put some videos on here.  Something you should know first though.  I LOATHE photos, videos, and audio recordings of myself.  Take the amount you don’t like them of yourself and multiply that by 100,000,000,000 and you’ll be almost where I am.  It probably won’t happen often, especially since I don’t own a phone or any type of camera.

Well, exercise is done for the day so that means perfecting a few songs on the guitar until… “Star Wars” Episode 9 tonight with my pop!  He got me into this mess with VHS, now I’m getting us out of this mess at the theater!

If you’re getting this through Facebook, give it a like or other reaction, or share it.  That’s the only way of promoting this site, since I’m not profiting from this in any way.
