Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer? Ask if you do!
Music from this weekend! “Greta Van Fleet”, “Nothing But Thieves”, “Live”, “A Perfect Circle”, “Coheed and Cambria”, & “Halestorm”
Really quiet here. I realized on Friday I had some other TV shows recorded on our PVR. I watched them & one episode of “Making a Murderer” before Kim got home. She had many TV shows to watch on the PVR, of course we watched “The Elle Degeneres Show” first, as usual.
Saturday I moved from our bed to our couch & kitchen. Cereal, yogurt & rum, TV (not all at the same time) later on. Then 4 episodes of “Making a Murderer”. Kim is sort of watching it too.
Today, Kim got up & went for coffee with Jolene. The 4 of us met each other in SIAST. Corey & Jolene were engaged a week or 2 before us & married roughly 4 months after us. Really good people, great friends, & awesome parents to our “niece” & “nephew”.
Went over to our friends’ place this afternoon, Chris & Laurie’s for an afternoon visit, also really good people, friends, & they also have 2 cool kids.
Now it’s get ready for the week time.
Review of “Greta Van Fleet” & “The Struts”. The Struts’ 2nd album is not actually out until October 26th.
Who gets to take an afternoon off to be at a baseball game at 4:00 pm eastern time in N.Y.? It baffles me that they have a decent crowd for games at that time?
So I was watching “The Ellen Degeneres Show” while she interviewed Hillary Clinton. They’re both tired of the campaign, who isn’t? At least when it’s all said & done they get to vote. As Canadians we just get to watch the 3 ring circus called Donald Trump until, hopefully November. If he gets elected I’ll be EXTREMELY worried! Face it, nobody gives a hoot about Canada, we’re pretty much known as that cold country above the USA. I don’t really follow politics at all, & I don’t vote. I’m not telling you who to vote for, I’m saying I’d vote for Hillary Clinton ASAP! If Trump is elected, I’ll suggest to Justin Trudeau that Canada should build a wall at our southern border & make the USA pay for it? Remember Trump, you’re “…really rich…”
Ronnie James Dio released “Holy Diver” 33 years ago Wednesday.
New band alert, well I’ve never heard of them? “Stitched up Heart” borderline metal if you like “Halestorm” and/or “The Pretty Reckless”, this is worth checking out. First full length album available for preorder on iTunes. Release date of June 17. There is also a single & a 3 song EP on iTunes available now.
I went to iTunes to preorder this album. We now have an “Apple Music” account & now iTunes is screwed up again. I search for something I’ve bought in “My Music” & it takes me to the “Apple Music” site? How I wish Steve Jobs was still alive!
Like I said, surviving, surviving stage 4 brain cancer doesn’t come with a “How to…” guide, so hold my beer & watch this! Epic or Fail……………we’ll see!
No plans set in stone for the weekend. Just a few balls in the air. Looks to be quite tame though. We’re getting old so that’s not a bad thing. Last night we were just sitting watching TV & out of the blue, Brewster grabs my forearm & decides he wants to “wrestle”. I try to put on my slippers to get on the floor. He just wouldn’t stop. He’s up on the couch still attacking my arm, while I’m trying to grab my shoes. He’s funny, he did that twice last night. Quiet 1 second & then full on “Let’s wrestle..NOW!” I’m the wrestle/play person, Kim’s the curl up & cuddle person. If she’s at work, he occasionally curls up with me. Little guy makes laugh hysterically!
Selfies, WHY? I don’t have a cell phone. If I did it would stay home & be used as a home PHONE! If I go out of town I’d bring it with me for emergency PHONE calls. I don’t enjoy photos of myself, so what gives me the right to take a photo of you? If I have to get a cell, I’ll use it for nothing more than a phone.
I exercised to ”Paramore” all 4 albums on shuffle!
My brain cancer diagnoses was in 2008. The distance from Tuesday, February 5th 2008 makes my cancer seem very insignificant sort of like “Ah, what the heck was that?”. Sure I’m in a wheelchair, I can’t drive, & I have a patch over my left eye. No big deal to me! I can laugh about MY cancer, I don’t laugh about anyone else’ though. It’s something I hope nobody will ever have to go through or deal with. Me? I’m alive, I’ve got this & if I need help, I’ve got lots of great people to help me. Sure I’ll have some lasting effects from brain cancer, so I adjust to do a task in a different way.
It’s not the ’90s anymore I guess, time for me to grow up sort of……………….nope that won’t work. I’m 36 and set in my ways. The Grammy Awards weren’t terrible. There were some artists that I liked. Bruno Mars, “1989” by Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Lionel Richie, Lady Ga Ga’s tribute to David Bowie, Pentatonix, Stevie Wonder, Alice Cooper, the tribute to Lemmy Kilmister & of course Dave Grohl was there! Lamb of God was nominated for their 6th Grammy, I don’t know or really care if they won? Grammy Awards that have been won really don’t dictate what I’m going to “purchase” or “stream”. Yes I still purchase the odd CD & purchase albums from iTunes.
Sorry, I’ve tried to listen to “Guns n’ Roses”, I just can’t get into them. Somewhere here there’s a purchased CD of “Appetite for Destruction”. It hasn’t seen the light of day for quite sometime. They’re all obviously good at what they do & likely busted their butts to achieve their success, just not for me. It sometimes takes me a few years to enjoy an album if I dismiss it upon first listen. I bought “Appetite for Destruction” in 2000. It’s 2016, and no, I’m still not a fan.
Muse are on tour & I missed them, again. They’re back in Europe finishing their tour. They did have some Canadian dates but I missed them. I don’t even remember where they were, probably too “…..far away…”?
I thought “Lady Ga Ga” did a fantastic David Bowie tribute!
Just to clear the air on the Toronto Blue Jays. I’m pretty sure every Jays fan has a suggestion as to what they’d do to the roster. I would trade $20,000,000 32 year old Troy Tulowitzki for a needed back up Catcher & some prospects, if that trade is available? You put a young guy at Short Stop (who’s talent will likely be wasted sitting on the bench) & you have 2 other utility infielders that can fill the void at 2B in the meantime until Devon Travis can play (expected back in May). I have nothing against Tulowitzki, his bat & defense are incredible. At the very least I hope they make Devon Travis earn the 2B spot from Goins. If the Blue Jays didn’t have Ryan Goins I wouldn’t bother giving up Tulowitzki. It just saves money for Bautista & Encarnacion, who’s contracts are up at the end of the year & will be looking for a final contract in the neighbour hood of $20,000,000 each, “Prime Time Sports with Bob McCowen” has echoed this many times, has anybody mentioned this to president Mark Shapiro or GM Ross Atkins? I’d call in to the show on Mondays or Fridays if my voice was better, but oh well. Just to ask if this has been mentioned to the president or general manager? If not you teach Tulowitzki to play 1B & trade Encarnacion or let him walk at the end of the year? I just hate the idea of not playing Ryan Goins everyday. Bob McCowen came up with the last idea. Only 6 days until pitchers & catchers report to spring training in Florida!!!!!
Record of the year. How could it not be? This song sounds best a maximum volume aka 11!
Pentatonix & Stevie Wonder at the Grammy Awards
Sorry, I’m long winded, I enjoy writing. I used to write song lyrics, now I write a blog. When I would write lyrics for a song, 4 of us would record a demo of the music. I’d put that on my iPod & take 2 weeks roughly to write lyrics, then at least another week to name the song. My brother gave me crap when I’d take so long to name a song “CHRIS, WHY? HURRY UP AND NAME IT ALREADY!!!!”
I had 3 partially written songs that I re-worked to fit the music. Other than that, the lyrics I wrote took a while. I write these posts the same way. I write a bit, then figure out a title, only it needs to have a title in a few hours not a few weeks, I write “Under Pressure” see, that just popped up.
According to Rolling Stone, Kendrik Lamar, stole the show at the Grammy Awards. Song inside the link.
Today’s workout was brought to you by the letter “E”, as in Eve 6
Have fun voting Canada! Then you can whine & complain about why the person you voted for can’t do what they promised.
Last Week Tonight with John Oliver on the Canadian election. LANGUAGE!!!!
I like “Walk off the Earth” their originals & their very unique videos of cover songs!
I think I should watch some NHL since the team I cheer for (Montreal) has yet to lose a game (6W-0L) & the basement dwellers (Toronto Maple Leafs) are in 7th place in the same division out of 8 teams (1W-3L-1Overtime game) Bahahahaha!
Yes, I bought “Coheed & Cambria” album ‘The Colour Before the Sun’ & “Pentatonix” album ‘Pentatonix’
This makes 5 albums I’ve purchased this month, with one more to go. Ian Fletcher Thornley’s solo album. After that album is released, there aren’t any release dates that I know of for me?
I was waiting for Kim in our vehicle & decided to turn on the radio. I don’t listen to the radio usually, & it’s never Regina’s Rock Station, it’s light rock or Jack FM where they play it all. I heard “Chromeo” & turned it up to 11!
Final poster & trailer for Star Wars Episode VII, The Force Awakens
It will be a difficult year for me to do a Top 10 list of the albums released this year. I already have a list of 22 albums this year, only the Muse album got old fast. The music is good, the actual lyrics…………………………………..not so much. So that narrows the field to 21 & the year’s not over yet. I’ll do away with “My Morning Jacket” as well. Great band live but the studio albums really pale compared to a live show. That brings it down to 20, I guess I’ll have to do it by process of elimination.
Songs I like, “Stevie Wonder” I have “Songs in the Key of Life” & a “Greatest Hits” album.
If you’re getting this on Facebook, please share it?
Today’s workout was brought to you by the letter “S”, as in Stevie Wonder’s Greatest Hits & “Songs in the Key of Life” on shuffle….
What are the 2 things that tell me “Scandal” is fictional? The first is that it makes politics seem interesting. The second & biggest reason is they use cell phones…………..AS TELEPHONES! Nobody is constantly looking down at their phone? They TALK TO PEOPLE!
2 episodes of the Rock It Out Blog from Monday
I have never been a fan of the ’80s hair metal movement.
Mike Portnoy (former drummer of Dream Theater) left the band to be in his new band ‘The Winery Dogs’
All he got for “Threatening to kill” someone, & drug possession was “home detention”. Maybe I should threaten to kill someone so I can stay home & do nothing. Who’s with me, & who needs a vacation? Should we binge watch something on Netflix?
Sound like Josh Homme from ‘Queens of the Stone Age’
This is from the album they’re trying to sound like. I’m guessing they became a more well known band because Dave Grohl played drums on the entire album & played drums live with them when he could? That’s how I found out about them.
“The Agonist” release this year is my favourite of the 4 they have released! LANGUAGE!
Will Smith plans to tour next year with DJ Jazzy Jeff?
I don’t have a camera for a reason. I don’t like being told to “Come on squeeze in, be in the photo, it will be fun”. Well if it will be fun I’ll completely change my mind……..NOT! I don’t like being in photos, if I had a camera & was taking photos of others, that would really come off as flat out wrong! I loathe being in photos, especially now with an eye patch. I’ve heard people say “Take off the eye patch & stand up”. Why? Much easier said than done & even if that wasn’t the case, I’d still have no desire to be photographed, just leave me out of the photo & I’ll play nice.
Songs I like, “Seether” they’re OK, I don’t really listen to them much. Does the first song remind you of another band? I think I saw them years ago at The Distrikt on their first tour? I could be wrong? I didn’t pay for these albums or download them. I got them from a guy, who knows a guy, who knows a guy, who has a cousin, who knows a guy that had them.

Disclaimer “This is not to be taken in a rude tone & is not aimed at any particular reader….ever!”
I put this through email first & realized not everyone likes email? OK, fair enough. I put it on Facebook as a link to the full blog on the website. Please come to the website for the full blog. Whether you get it on facebook, another blog on http://www.wordpress.com, or an email. Depending on your browser, the multiple http://www.youtube.com links will be open so you know what is coming to you before you listen to it. Otherwise I look like an idiot? I put it on facebook yet 11 people came to the site yesterday, twice? 24 views by 11 people? This is stuff I like that I want to share with you. If you’re not coming to the site there’s a REALLY GOOD CHANCE you’re missing something, & I’m the one here with ink on my face. I was a printer, & yes that happened a few times. Bazinga! Some days I’d come home looking like I made a half assed effort to be a Smurf? Why blue? I don’t know….
I’m not angry in any way, I know print doesn’t always come across in the proper tone. 11 people looked at the site out of, what is 117 to 120 subscribers I know 2 or 3 have doubled between facebook & email. That’s just underwhelming. That’s why it’s meant to be interactive, music has been something really meaningful for me since I joined the school band in grade 6, I’m 35 years old now. I understand that what I listen to is not necessarily what others want to hear. If 11 people read this a day to me this is for me alone. I’m not going necessarily promote an event or other individual music related events I’m not attending. So please come to the website? You don’t have to click on every link, only if the description interests you. Did I do something wrong yesterday? Do I smell? I’ve had my monthly shower, I should be clean & odor free until mid-July. I can see the email address and the person subscribing on facebook, or the title of the blog by whoever on this blog site. Don’t be afraid, I don’t bite.
I know that the cool peeps in Albania came to the site. Yes, I know a family in Albania! I get a world map to see what country has read this however many times. Can’t see who from that country has read it, I just know how many times it has been viewed in that country.
Very interesting article about the music industry. It’s 9 pages I’ve only read the first 2. I’ve bookmarked it to read the rest later. Since I’m hooked on reading it after the first paragraph & speaking about the Napster lawsuit with Metallica that was filed 6 months prior to Linkin Parks debut album, “Hybrid Theory”. http://www.forbes.com/sites/jonobacon/2015/06/11/from-piracy-to-prosperity-inside-the-new-artists-toolbox/
I like ‘Black Sabbath’, but ‘Queen’ & ‘Led Zeppelin’ are my favourite active groups during the ’70s. Queen material from the ’80s was not as good as the ’70s material. More miss than hit for me.
Great & all, I want to own my music not subscribe to a radio station for my entire life. I’m only 35 and I expect to hit 80 at the least? iTunes is really good, I just don’t like how the money is distributed. I don’t have the physical space for vinyl albums or even CDs at this point. CDs have dropped in price significantly to keep pace with iTunes.
As far as the subject on “The Simpsons” go, I stopped watching in my very early teens but they’re still around. I’d rather have WB cartoons like the “Bugs Bunny & Tweety Show” around on re-runs.
Comedians saying the world is too politically correct. I can see both sides, yes it might offend you? If it does don’t watch it? Seems simple to me. A lot of it also doesn’t need to be said, so in that case are you going to judge a person on how they express themselves? In the end it’s very subjective.
Moon Boot Cocoon by James Black, guitarist of Finger Eleven
I have no sympathy for apple. Nobody needs another streaming music site. You’ve got a really good idea with iTunes, it just needs to be revamped $1.50 per album download to the label & $1.50 to Apple. Then $0.00-$7.00 to the artist. $3.00-$10.00 for 1 album. That’s more than 50% off of what the price for a CD was? Sounds good to me? Anybody at Apple or the label going to come up with music ideas? http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/many-indie-labels-may-refuse-to-sign-apple-music-contract-20150616
I need to slow down on my music purchasing on iTunes. But I am curious as to when the next “Tremonti”, “Alter Bridge” & the solo album by Myles Kennedy is being released? I’m assuming “Tremonti’s” other album he recorded while in studio will be released in the first half of next year? He’d have time to tour that album while Myles Kennedy works on his solo album I’ve been hearing about for the last 4 years?
Songs I like. “Jack Johnson” Our first dance at our wedding was “Better Together” by Jack Johnson! Yes, I’ve made “Banana Pancakes” about 3 times.

I’ve found people on face book that I’ve lost track of over the years, everybody has an email address for social media sites, might as well us it for this blog. I have no intention of putting this on twitter, instagram, facebook, etc. it’s an old fashion website. Up there are instructions on how to subscribe. It took a while yesterday in the late afternoon. I did get the “Sonic Highways” HBO series which I had bought for $20 while it was on HBO, the special features in the studios & extended interviews finally showed up. For a while yesterday I thought it might be a Cash Grab! In Canada or at least Regina, HBO is an extra $20 a month for 3 channels on your cable package. We had it for 4 weeks to watch 4 episodes of the series. I found it on iTunes for $20. I figured it’s cheaper to just buy it rather than spending $40 to just watch it & have it disappear.
Somebody wants some of the spotlight? Van Halen is one of those bands that should probably just tour now?
I saw “Who is Fancy” do this song on Jimmy Fallon from last night doing this song. Catchy song I have to check into this? Checked iTunes & it’s just a single. I don’t buy single songs because I never listen to them. If there is a full album that I like the most of the songs on then I buy it.
How does a newer band like “Volbeat”, 4 albums, have “Anthrax”, 14 albums, as an opener/special guest? I like both groups, but isn’t Anthrax considered one of the HUGE 4 metal bands? Anthrax formed in 1981, Volbeat formed in 2001? At least they’re bringing “Anthrax” to Regina & Saskatoon!
Kim made me watch “Dancing with the Stars” last night. When she comes home I’ll be on the couch watching………………….BASEBALL! I’m assuming I’ll be sent to the bedroom TV to watch the game?
Songs I like. “Dave Matthews Band” I think I took the time to learn “Ants Marching” on guitar, very difficult for me to sing at the same time, that just never happened for me.

Sorry here’s the self promotion for my now music blog. If you don’t want to that’s fine. Here’s how to subscribe You have to ad your email address to where ever you see “Follow”. I think it’s in the bottom right or top left corner? You do that then you get a confirmation email that says I don’t know what? All of this has to be done on a laptop or desktop computer. Then you can read it anywhere. Each post will come to the inbox of the email address. http://www.amillionmilesawayblog.com

Soundgarden or Big Wreck sound quite similar, so if you like one you might enjoy the other? Very similar vocal styles from Ian Thornley & Chris Cornell. I like both, haven’t missed a Big Wreck or Thornley show in Regina since 1999! Even when I was in the hospital we took Para Transit to a bar Thornley was playing at!
Still loving “Big Wreck’s Ghosts”, “Foo Fighters’ Sonic Highways”, “In Flames’ Siren Charms” “Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds’ Chasing Yesterday” & the recently released “The Agonist’s Eye of Providence”
Lot’s of fans on the “In Flames” facebook site are very disappointed with this album? “Foo Fighters” are catching a lot of heat from other sources on the “Sonic Highways” album? They didn’t set out to make an album to have a drastic change for each song. It sounds like a Foo Fighters album with the guest artist fitting in with the Foo Fighters’ sound. Remember when Radiohead drastically changed their sound on their 4th album “Kid A” after the FANTASTIC release of “OK Computer”? Lots of people jumped off the Radiohead band wagon & new fans jumped on. The stuff after “OK Computer” isn’t bad, there’s a few songs I like & I bought their CDs until “In Rainbows” was released, it’s a good album. There are 4 or 5 albums after “OK Computer” I just can’t get on board with? They went from “OK Computer” to “Kid A” with a shocking change if you ask me.
Far to different for my taste. If that’s what an artist wants to do I’m OK with it, doesn’t mean I have to like it. Why do people make a certain type of music? Because they want to create something they like. If you don’t like what you’re doing why are you doing it? At least that was my reason for doing original music. Fans are great, but I didn’t want to try & make everyone happy. I played stuff I wanted to hear.
Songs I like. I can’t show you the group I was in. We had nothing on youtube or iTunes. So here’s some “Chevelle”. I really like these guys!!

Hard rock fans, buy this “Red Dragon” album by Room 333, which is compared to “La Gargola” by Chevelle!
Apple is making a car? How about bringing back the iPod Classic? I personally don’t want an iPod touch (128gb) with everything on it but a phone. I want a plain old MP3 player!
Green Day went down hill for me after the album “Nimrod”. Then the album “Uno!” was released in the year they released 3 albums only “Uno!” was OK for me. “American Idiot” NO!!!
