I fell asleep to “Big Wreck” the album “In Loving Memory Of…”

I exercised to “Foo Fighters” the album “Concrete & Gold”

It doesn’t bother me if you watch Reality TV.  I get sucked into it at times when Kim watches.  However it’s not reality, it’s “reality”.  They’re mostly talent contests & game shows.  They all have rules & restrictions to them.  Real life has no rules or restrictions other than breaking the law.  A writer or creator has a blank page & can take the TV show, movie, or musical anywhere.  “Parenthood” was probably the best example of this & much more realistic than any “Reality TV” show.

“Survivor” first aid is right there if you need them, “The Amazing Race” it’s a race, “America’s Got Talent” talent contest, “American Idol” singing/talent contest, “The X Factor” singing/talent contest, “The Bachelor”/”The Bachelorette” a contest to date & possibly meet your future spouse…etc.  At the end of these shows the winner gets a prize.  So where’s the real part of these “Reality TV” shows?  When did life become a completion?  At the end of real life you die.  You don’t necessarily win something, or did I miss the memo.  If you watch them or not, that’s cool with me.  I get sucked into a few that Kim watches, & then I become invested in the show.

My grandmother died of breast cancer on December 5th 1999.  Everyone in the family came to my parents’ house.  I was 19, Mitch was 12.  I went to my room & listened to I Mother Earth’s 3rd album “Blue, Green, Orange” turned up to 11 through headphones!

I was in university at the time when final exams rolled around, I was not in a good place mentally.  I’d drive my car to Moose Jaw, 45 minutes away, & back blasting Foo Fighters 3rd album “There is Nothing Left to Lose” both ways.  That’s the year Foo Fighters & Big Wreck became my favourite bands.  I turned 19 “Bar age” in January of 1999, and was able to see Big Wreck live.  Big Wreck would play Regina 3 – 4 times a year, I always went to see them.

From then on I was really expanding my musical preferences.  Any 80s hair metal band has been & likely will be a big NO from me.  They all seem to have that same 80s sound.  Don’t get me wrong they are really good musicians, just not something I’d listen too much, if at all.

Finger Eleven, I Mother Earth, Big Wreck, Foo Fighters & the grunge explosion stuff became my preferred listening bands.  Moral of this story do not go in a mosh pit, break your nose & lie to the First Aid guy at a festival so you can catch the end of the Big Wreck song you broke your nose to & be covered in blood half way through the day.

Finger Eleven & I Mother Earth were Mitch’s bands, & I Mother Earth, Big Wreck, & Foo Fighters were my bands.  We both like Finger Eleven, I Mother Earth, & Foo Fighters.  The difference is Mitch adores his 2 favourites more than me.  I’m all about Foo Fighters & Big Wreck.

2 movies I’m anxious to see in theaters this month.

I fell asleep to “The Travelling Wilburys”

I exercised to “Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers” their Greatest Hits.

We finished off Thanksgiving Monday by going to a “My Little Pony” movie with our friends & our “niece”.

EVERYBODY will likely encounter some type of roadblock in their life, there’s no need to hide it.  It is hard to talk about & deal with eventually, just do your best to get over it & put it out there!  I was the same way, I didn’t want people I didn’t know to see me in a wheelchair with an iPatch.  I can’t be in the house & not have new friends for the rest of my life.  I had to get over that.  Since about the middle of 2014 I just let that go, one less thing for me to stress about.  If people want to look, that’s fine by me & questions are more than welcome, even encouraged.

No matter what it is, you can’t worry about it for however long you have a mental, physical, or internal issue.  Let it go so you don’t have to carry that weight with you forever, it will get heavier with each second & once you’ve figured out how to deal with it, you no longer have to worry what other people think.  Most people probably don’t notice it in the first place!

I’m pretty sure I have a bit of OCD in me.  We have 2 bathrooms, both must have 3 extra rolls of toilet paper.  I always stack them on the back of the toilet, in a pyramid.  2 on the bottom, 1 on top, & whatever is currently in use.  I also don’t like a pile of dirty dishes in the sink.  I put what I can in the dishwasher, & %50 of the time I’ll do the hand wash dishes.  I also like to finish a task before I go to bed.  If I don’t I’ll be awake for too long thinking about it.

THAT’S ALL FOR WHAT’S ON MY MIND & CANCER TALK!  HERE COMES THE POPCULTURE STUFF!

ED SHEERAN

Ed Sheeran is quite popular so I shouldn’t need to give you much, if any, background on him.  Kim & I saw him in Regina, on tour just before his 2nd of 3 albums was released.  Cool to see him live, but the sound here at the arena sucks.  Whenever he turned on his digital pedal with pre-recorded stuff to make it sound like a full band, everything became slightly distorted.  Not how you want to experience Ed Sheeran, a guy playing acoustic guitar!  This is the show that broke me.  Ended up watching 50% of the show through someone’s cell phone & what was released a few months later?  A concert video of his show at Wembley Stadium!  So glad I paid to watch the concert on a 4 inch screen.

I’m a big fan on his stuff.  Big Wreck & Foo Fighters have been my 2 favourite bands for a long time though!  Nothing has changed that.  Big Wreck & Foo Fighters both released an album this year.  Ed Sheeran hasn’t received my attention as much as he deserves it.  He “fell through the cracks”.

You shouldn’t need much background, but here are two songs from each of his first 2 albums.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders were playing in Hamilton against the Tiger-Cats Friday evening.  Mitch & Rachel came over to watch the game & have supper as well.  No touchdown shooters here, but possibly at my parents place?  They had some friends over to watch the football game too.  Ugly win, Riders tried to lose the game but ran out of time.  A win is still a win so at least the Riders had that going for them.

The Toronto Blue Jays won too.  A win doesn’t really matter for them at this point.  They’re pretty much auditioning younger players for next year, & they’re playing to stir the pot & affect the playoff teams that aren’t guaranteed a spot yet.

I’m anxious for next season of Blue Jay baseball!  These younger players look good, most of them.  The Blue Jays are actually winning games, not at a high rate, but it seems like they’re winning more often.  It’s at least entertaining to watch a game & know they have a chance of coming out with a win.

Say goodbye to José Bautista.  He’s no longer José Bautista who will hit 40+ home runs.  Last year he was injured & hit 20+ home runs.  This year he hasn’t been injured but his offensive numbers are very much the same if not less.  He has an option on his contract for $18,000,000 next year that both he & the Blue Jays have to agree on.  I don’t think anyone will pay him that much.  He’s about my age aka he is not far from retirement in the MLB.

Saturday, we sat around the house just feeling lazy.  Kim did some laundry & our friends from out of town popped by with coffee & cookies from Tim Horton’s.  Very lazy day for us.

Sunday’s are always get ready for the week, make a pitcher of juice, hard boil eggs, finish up the laundry, grocery shopping & this week get refills on the 5 medications I take, all of them at night & 3 or 4 of them first thing in the morning.

And there’s a song to break your nose to.  When you’re 19, in a mosh pit, & instantly covered in blood.  Lie to the First Aid guy so you can hear the end of the song & stay out of a mosh pit for the rest of your life!

I guess there’s a new Fall Out Boy album up for preorder at the moment with 3 songs on for preorder.  Full release January 19, 2018.  I’ll check it out on the release day.

Ozzy, you’re getting old.  Everybody has to retire at some point.

I’ve listened to it more & each time I listen to it, it seems to sound WAY better than the last time!  It’s good enough for me to throw it into my regular rotation.  I’m a HUGE Foo Fighters fan though, this could be a biased opinion though.  My initial reaction, terrible album.  Now it’s not too shabby, they have made a few better albums though.

http://loudwire.com/foo-fighters-concrete-and-gold-album-review/

This album seems to get better to me with each listen.  Don’t buy the hype by Dave Grohl in this “making off” clip.  This album does not sound huge to me.  I still blame the producer for the poor reaction to this album.  No it’s not like Metallica’s “St. Anger”.

What I listen to depends on my mood for the most part.  Metal music tends to calm me.  Hard rock makes me quite energetic.  If I want to relax Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, or Simon & Garfunkel it is!

Jack Johnson recently released an album, great album to listen to for chilling out!

I fell asleep to “Stone Sour” the album “Hydrograd”

I exercised to “Ben Harper” 8 albums on shuffle

YAY……………………NOT!  Tuesday was back to reality & the normal everyday grind.

I thought briefly about starting a record/vinyl collection & quickly realized that would be a terrible idea for me.  The cost alone is something we can’t afford.  Then I’d have to find a place to keep the albums.  All of that hassle for us, just to buy vinyl albums, iTunes is fine with me.  Especially now that I’ve figured out what bands/artists I’ll pre-order & who I’ll wait to check out on Apple Music.  I don’t agree with free music (for myself) you get it however you like.  I don’t like the fact that musicians spend so much on studio time only to receive pennies on a streaming site?  I don’t get how someone woke up one day & decided musicians should work for free?  Great for the consumer, terrible for the musicians.

If you’ve made your millions as a musician this shouldn’t matter as much as it does for a new musician trying to rise to fame.  Either way, it just seems wrong to me?

My last 2 weeks (maybe more) of physiotherapy, before my final test, were outside in the park.  Learning to sit on a blanket.  It was in July, my back was soaking wet with sweat because it took a lot of energy.  Get out of my wheelchair & get back into it.  To make matters worse, that’s when a bird missed the target on my head & pooped on my shoulder.

My final “test”/physiotherapy session was out of my chair onto the floor.  Crawl over 1 obstacle, 10 pushups on my knees.  Crawl over a 2nd obstacle, 10 crunches, crawl over a 3rd obstacle, return to my wheelchair repeating the exercise on the way back.

How did I deal with being physically disabled, very bad, I felt useless & I wanted to hurt anyone I could.  I wanted everyone to feel as bad as I did.  After a few months & a stern talking to from my brother, parents, & wife I finally snapped out of my rut, got over it, apologized to those I had hurt privately & publically, & moved on.  All of it was heavy baggage that got too heavy because of my poor reaction.  I was just angry at the world.  So I dealt with anger & depression.  The worst struggle with it I’ve ever had with it.

If you’re ever considering suicide or if you’re in a rut, please talk to someone that is more than willing to listen.  Please don’t ever think of yourself as a burden to anyone.  You’ll be surprised at the number of people you’ve had a positive effect on & how many people love you & care about your wellbeing.  I’ve never called a suicide prevention hotline, but they’re there & more willing to listen. 1-877-4747 if you prefer talking to a stranger about any type of mental illness, be it a friend, family member, or yourself don’t hesitate to call.  The sooner you let it out & talk to someone, the sooner you can relax & get the burden off of your back.

I got lucky, I’ve talked with my high school guidance counselor, university counselor, social workers, my doctor, a psychiatrist, my wife, & my parents.  Now I’m OK & not embarrassed to talk about it.  I used to be & it was a topic I tried to distance myself from.  Don’t be ashamed about it 1 in 5 Canadians have some type of mental illness.  I’m on medication for my depression, don’t be embarrassed if you’re told to do the same.  A lot of mental illness’ can be caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain.  The proper medication can be quite useful.

Think of it this way, if all of that doesn’t make sense.  If you have the flu, cold or anything like that, you probably go see a doctor, right?  So if you’re dealing with any type of mental illness, more serious than a flu or cold, go talk to a doctor.  Maybe you’ll be referred to someone more knowledgeable on the subject, but you’ve started a conversation about whatever you’re dealing with so just see it through now & meet them half way if needed.

When I’m talking about mental illness, it does not just mean depression.  It includes OCD, ADD, ADHD, etc.

Friday night I went out to The Exchange, The Club side with my dad to see ‘Room 333’ play.  Good show, small venue for a full on hard rock act but it sounded good.  They have a 3 or 4 song EP coming out.  They do have an album on iTunes!  Seeing them live you also get to see drummer Chris Dimas playing drums like nobody else!

https://itunes.apple.com/ca/album/red-dragon/id1264904399

I love going to The Exchange to see bands, & people I haven’t seen in a looooong time.  That’s one of very few if not the only venue in town for original artists to play.  The last band I was in played there a lot & only 2 other venues that are now gone.  I do not miss hauling my guitar, amplifier, & speaker cabinet home at 2:30 am after playing for an hour though.  I’m old, I’d need a roadie now “I’m done, now get all of my gear home for me please, $20 OK?”  One of the last shows we played before I got sick was a benefit show for Telemiracle.  They raise money to help those in need of medical equipment.  They gave us $11,000 towards a wheelchair van for me that was $18,000.  It’s a full weekend of entertainment in Saskatoon or Regina for people to call in & donate to the cause.  I think we played 2 benefit shows, with all of the money going to Telemiracle.  I think the last concert I played was for Telemiracle, we hit the stage at 1:00 am.  Ugh, I liked playing to an audience but there were 16 people left at that time, including the bar staff & a sound guy.  The next day I go on to a post board to thank people for coming & I get a response of “Thanks, I was the guy on the left!”  I’ve played to 16 people & 500 people.  With the lights in my eyes it’s hard to tell who’s out there, might as well entertain whoever’s there.  Leave it all on the stage, then pack up your gear in the wee hours of the morning.

We were never rich or famous.  We just played what we wanted to hear.  No sense in having a hobby you don’t like!

My dad, uncle, & I made a trip to the north end of town to the Sobey’s liquor store today in the late afternoon, went back to my parents’ house to slap on some sun lotion & went to the Saskatchewan Roughrider game.  Our season tickets are on the East side of the field.  We were sweating/dying for the first 3 quarters since the east side gets a lot of sun, especially when the game starts at 4:30 pm & it’s +31 Celcius which is 87.8 Fahrenheit.  By the fourth quarter the sun had gone down enough that we were in the shade & we won!  It was a very entertaining football game!

I checked out the price of 18 cans of beer they sell at the stadium for $9 a can, but if you buy it at a liquor store it work out to $25 for 18 cans which is roughly &1.39 a can.  It’s a HUGE increase for profit in the new stadium but I’ve only had 2 beer for $5 each at the old stadium since the washrooms weren’t very convenient.  Now they’re easily accessible but the beer is grossly overpriced.  No beer for this guy!  Today my uncle bought us each a needed cold beer though.  We got to our wheelchair section & I immediately grabbed a bottled water out of our bag I was incredibly hot.

My uncle & cousins flew home today, & Kim gets home today as well.  Kim & her sister drove home by Prince Albert to help their aunt get settled into her new house.  She moved from Prince George in B.C. to be closer to family.  Her husband passed away from 2 heart attacks & I think cancer, while I was in the hospital.  I liked him very cool guy!

Blue Jays are playing 3 games this weekend against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.  After the 4 game winning streak against the Oakland Athletics I hope nobody got a false sense of them making the playoffs.  They still have 7 teams ahead of them for the second wild card spot.  Oakland came into Toronto with the exact same win-loss record as Toronto.  It’s nice to see a winning streak, but the 4 game winning streak didn’t really do anything for them.

By Tuesday I hope this team looks different!  Monday at noon Eastern Time is the trade deadline.  If possible I hope they get a pile of young prospects & a few younger current players.  If they’re able to dump 3 or 4 players that means they could take $60M or $80M off the payroll of old under preforming veterans.  There 6 players they have now that I wouldn’t even consider trading, 3 of them are in the minor league system.  From what I hear they’re keeping the old players with HUGE contracts & loading up the minor league teams with really good prospects if possible.  This won’t be like the trade deadline of 2015.  They won’t be a playoff contender until the 2019 season at the earliest.

I fell asleep to “Foo Fighters” a concert in Montreal from 2000 that I recorded on cassette since it was on the radio.  “Melissa Auf Der Maur” her album “Auf Der Maur”, “Metallica” the recent album “Hardwired……to Self-Destruct”, “Paramore” the album “After Laughter”

I exercised to “Halestorm” the album “Into the Wild Life”

I just couldn’t fall asleep last night, but I was awake & exercising by 6:10 am, had breakfast, shaved, showered, & done editing this

Exercise total this week; 500 crunches, 500 leg lifts, 300 pushups, 200 back flexes, & 25 minutes of planking!  Every day starts with me exercising, no shower, dress in workout attire, & no breakfast.  Once I finish my exercises, then I allow myself to have breakfast, shower, put on clean clothes, & usually in this room to work on the next blog.

Wednesday was 5 years of me being released from the WRC.  No more therapy for this guy.  It was sort of bitter sweet for me, I met some really cool people, but I likely won’t see them in person again.  People I’d see almost daily for 3.5 years.  It’s like when I passed out at work, another big change.  I did make it back to visit my former co-workers though, once.

As I’ve stated before, I don’t consider myself as physically disabled.  Sure there are many things I can’t do, many that I can, & some that I haven’t figured out yet.  If I need help with something, there is always someone willing to help.  Until I say I can’t do something, let me struggle until I figure it out, or until I ask for help.  Don’t be afraid to let me “…sink so I can swim…”  The further away I get from Tuesday February 5th 2008 & Thursday July 26th 2012 they become a distant memory that changed things a little bit.  I could continue to have a chip on my shoulder or much better, forget about it & move on.  I’ll easily choose the latter.

THAT’S ALL FOR THE CANCER TALK FOR NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

These are the 5 songs from the Foo Fighters’ album “Concrete & Gold” out on September 15th

The following are live songs.  They likely include LANGUAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would think any hard core Foo Fighters fan, such as myself, will be fine with the album & won’t hesitate when it’s released!

Would you like a Stone Temple Pilots bundle of vinyl, CDs, & a T-Shirt?

My super smart brother converted some old cassettes to iTunes files for me.  The high school Chamber Choir cassette that we went to Newfoundland had recorded a cassette of songs.  A Foo Fighters concert I recorded from the radio in 2000, & he tried to convert a cassette by Johnny Amore from my high school days.

If people are so terrified, they can avoid this tasty treat.  I’m not worried, bring on the Ben & Jerry’s!

What does Trump have to do to be impeached?  There can’t be much left?  Where there’s smoke, there’s probably fire.  There’s so much smoke at the moment, I can’t believe I haven’t died of smoke inhalation here in Canada?????????????!!!!!

REALLY?!  I MEAN REALLY?!!!!!!!!!!????????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I could easily do an entire post about Donald Trump going back on his own previous statements.  I don’t need to though.  Everybody has made up their mind on him, & I’m not going to waste my time or energy on him.  I think ALL of us should consider ourselves as Global Citizens & get rid of these dividing walls!  I’m not surprised by anything Trump does at this point, but I’m always extremely disappointed that he does whatever he wants.

Cool version of Aerosmith/Run DMC’s ‘Walk this way’

Alter Bridge shared it……

Pentatonix shared it & I’ll add another one from the same EP that I’m not sure about.

How Foo Fighters’ went about recording the new album “Concrete & Gold”.  To be released September 15th, 2017.

Every person has a different opinion & I respectfully disagree with the comparison to Disturbed & Five Finger Death Punch.

I’m not in my early 20s anymore.  I have 2 Disturbed albums in the closet behind me.  My brother saw Five Finger Death Punch before cancer, B.C., he burnt copies for me.  I have no clue where they are, & I’m more than happy about that.  They were cool for a week when I was 26 or 27.

Those 2 bands among many others are why I don’t listen to Regina’s “rock” radio station.  I do love Trivium though, they’re too heavy for the “rock” radio station.

Hahahaha!!!!

My weekend starts now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
