Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

Exercise total for 5 days.

500 Curls w/ 20 pound dumb bells

300 Shoulder raises/Chest presses w/ 10 pound dumb bells

1050 Crunches

900 Leg lifts

300 Squats

600 Back flexes

Exercises went well this week & I feel pretty good.  Got up by 6:45 am or earlier this week other than yesterday 8:00 am and stuff to do around the house first.  Kim made some mini-quiche things for breakfast this week with cottage cheese & spinach in them.  They’re muffin size, 1 of those in the morning with my vegetable juice & water throughout the day & I’m exercising.  Afterwards I check my email & Facebook, then I shower.

When I think about my cancer, how it affected me & those around me, I often think about a guy I met in the rehabilitation center named Nick.  He was born with cerebral palsy & doesn’t know a life without a wheelchair & a severe handicap.  He was very outgoing, confident, polite, smart, upbeat, & liked music quite a bit.  I couldn’t understand his speech & he couldn’t understand mine.  When we’d see each other in the hall or in therapy, Kim was always playing the role of translator for us.

I take my exercise VERY seriously.  I’m VERY fortunate to be alive & have the opportunity to work on my disability.  Nick is likely limited for life.  He lives in the Wascana Rehabilitation Center.  He knows he’ll be there for a long time & he understands that.   I was released & acted like a complete jerk for quite a while after my release, I should have been more grateful like Nick.  When I get down on myself or start to think something is too hard for me to deal with, I think of Nick.

He came over to our table in the cafeteria one afternoon, I was visibly not in the best mood.  Nick told me his story & finally said “Chris, I was born this way, this is all I know”.  My exercise might not seem like much to anybody.  When I think about it, I’m exercising for Nick since he can’t exercise for himself, he can play the drums though!  He learned in music therapy and recorded an album with the therapist.

The problem was, when I was acting like a jerk, I wasn’t thinking of Nick or what his life is like.  Now I don’t get down on myself so much, while always reminding myself to remain humble.  I think of Nick now more than I did before.  Unfortunately Kim & I either don’t remember his last name or never heard it.  If we did & he was nearby, I love to see him & hear how he’s doing.  Some people call me an inspiration, I find that VERY humbling.  Nick is my inspiration to keep going.

Suck it up fellow Canadians.  The vaccine distribution in Canada is EXTREMELY underwhelming.  CNN is simply reporting the news as usual.  Stay home!  I live in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada.  I don’t know about “right now” but Regina had the most active cases of Covid-19 per capita in Canada earlier this year.  Please at least share this link on whatever social media you use.  Active cases in Regina are unbelievably high!

I don’t understand why so many people are worried about taking a vaccine?  Bill Gates isn’t going to implant a micro-chip in anyone because he doesn’t have to.  Have you ever used a phone, of any kind?  If you said “Yes” to that question, people that want to know about you probably know already?

I wanted to just play guitar on Wednesday but there was a baseball game that started at 11:00 am.  That normally wouldn’t be an inconvenience for me but that’s the time of day I can make some noise with my guitar & amplifier.  I still prefer to watch TV after 5:00 pm.  Kim’s done work, I stop playing guitar and either I watch a baseball game & Kim watches a streaming show in the bedroom or I play guitar until 8:30 pm while Kim watches something recorded.  Live TV does not exist in our house.

I played guitar on Wednesday after the game for what I told myself would be 45 minutes, turned out to be an hour & a half.  My left arm started shaking a LOT?!  That’s never happened to me.  My fingers will move uncontrollably on occasion but my arm is usually fine.

We got a delivery on Wednesday, a furniture piece for our renovations.  Kim’s been waiting for it for quite a while.  A round mirror above it and a tall green plant beside it will complete the renovations.  Those 2 items will have to wait until we get through this income tax ordeal, hopefully at the end of the year.

Buffet Table

I put my Matthew Heafy signature Epiphone Les Paul Custom 7 string guitar up for sale Tuesday afternoon.

$1400 Canadian obo.  Comes with stock active EMG pickups, a 707 in the neck position & an 81 in the bridge position.  Tuners have been shimmed and new GHS Boomer strings 10-60 are now on & wrapped around the bridge.  Certificate of authenticity included.  It’s been played a minimal amount since its purchase on February 2nd, 2020.  No case or gig bag included.

Side view

I shaved last night & trimmed my goat tee.  I’ll shower ASAP and I’ll be “All dressed up with nowhere to go”

Rock is NOT dead.  It’s not as commercial as it used to be.  Country & pop music or a combination of the 2 are what’s easily found right now.  Rock & metal never died, you just need to dig a bit deeper to find it.

1050 Crunches

900 Leg lifts

300 Squats

600 Back flexes

My exercise has been VERY satisfying & the number of crunches in a week went from 900-1050/week.  It feels great to be able to work on my physical handicap, eat well & not be drinking!  Hard to get up this morning while Kim’s cocooned in the blankets & Brewster’s curled up & warm while snoring.

More pill refills headed my way this weekend, YAY!  How far away is the vaccine?  I have another 3 hour MRI sometime in May.

I woke up around 2:45ish am Wednesday night because I was hungry?  Weird since that’s never happened before.  I guess I was pretty excited to see baseball back Thursday too.  I got up, had some food & did my weights, everything felt good, ready for the game!

I decided to exercise today.  Kim has Monday off & I know I probably won’t want to get up on Monday & exercise.  This seemed like a more advantages day to exercise for me.  I did increase my repetitions of crunches by one extra set of 50 3 days a week.  Still no alcohol since January 30th of this year, & no foreseeable plans for it, no coffee either for I don’t know how long it’s been?

Kim’s getting a little frustrated with the back & forth conversation with Revenue Canada on our income tax.  When she worries, I worry.

We have no children, if we did that’s where any money would go.  So with time on my hands, likely being inside of our place most of the time & falling in love with guitar more than ever, that’s what I want to do as well as help out where I can.  I know the guitars I like but I also understand responsibility and affordability.  I quite like my less expensive choice, especially that Godin radiator.  Every time I look at it or hear samples of it, I get so excited!

I don’t care how low the price is on a guitar as long as it’s built well, it’s always a GREAT day!

Kim doesn’t like the music I play…it’s not pop/country?  Sheesh, tough crowd!

That’s a LOT of guitars!  Even if money wasn’t a factor I’d stop at 12 at most & Kim’s stubborn about getting stuff with her gift money.

I still like my original 3 choices of the S2 McCarty 595, the Godin radiator, & the Sterling Cutlass.  I know that I really like this Mark Morton signature Jackson Dominion but because of the price I’d have to say no even though there will be some here on the 26.  I think when I get older I’d prefer a PRS Core “Paul’s Guitar” in an “Orange Tiger” finish

https://www.prsguitars.com/index.php/electrics/model/pauls_guitar_2021

I’d never be so bold to get a “Tremonti” Core PRS.  Since I know one “Alter Bridge” riff & chorus.  I’d consider a “Special semi hollow” instead but that’s a crazy amount of money, for any Core model!

https://www.prsguitars.com/index.php/electrics/model/special_semi_hollow_2021

The PRS S2 McCarty 594 in this “Whale Blue” finish

https://www.prsguitars.com/index.php/electrics/model/s2_mccarty_594_2021

The Godin Radiator

Always the Sterling Cutlass!

https://www.long-mcquade.com/220378/Guitars/Electric-Guitars/Sterling-By-Music-Man/Cutlass-HSS–Roasted-Maple-Neck—Vintage-Cream.htm

I’d have to pass on this as much as I like it, because of the price.

https://www.long-mcquade.com/164476/Guitars/Electric-Guitars/Jackson-Guitars/Pro-Series-Signature-Mark-Morton-Dominion–Ebony-Fingerboard—Silverburst.htm

I’d like the PRS S2 McCarty 594, the Godin Radiator, the Sterling Cutlass , & the Mark Morton Jackson Dominion. I guess I’d have to learn some “Lam of God” I have some on my long list of songs to learn!

Again the price comes into play.  Any way you split it the PRS S2 McCarty 594 is the next purchase.  I worry too much about guitars being discontinued!  Back to that trying to be responsible while being irresponsible thing.  Income tax could easily factor in as well?  Now as I think about it, my guitars are all keepers, but I’d gladly take a DG-335 Trini Lopez in place of my Squier Starcaster or upgrade the bridge pickup at least.  I’d be breaking out many “Foo Fighters” songs on one of those!  Yes I’ve learned this song…

I do feel VERY selfish saying I want to buy these guitars.  Especially when I know other families have loved ones that are sick, have died, lost a job, they might be struggling more than Kim & I are, etc.

Toronto Blue Jays baseball regular season started yesterday in N.Y. against the N.Y. Yankees.  Playing guitar while watching baseball, Kim’s told me on Wednesday “Great, now you’ll have 2 things to talk about”L

I’d tell you all about the game & how great it was to see regular season baseball again, you’d be bored though.  I missed baseball SO much, the Blue Jays are undefeated after their first game that had an extra inning.  I have another date with the couch on Saturday.  I didn’t play guitar today, I just wanted to soak in the game.

VERY quiet weekend ahead of us.  I’d stop babbling about guitars, but that’s my thing.  It could be worse, it could be baseball talk or CFL talk if there’s a season this year?

I started streaming the new album from “A Day to Remember” they’ve really mellowed out in a good way.

“Royal Blood” have a video for their single ‘Limbo’ now.  I’m so glad I actually bought/pre-ordered this album.

YEP NOW THE HACKER’S MESSING WITH EVERYTHING

If you missed it, I put up a post on the website Saturday.  If you go to this link www.amillionmilesawayblog.com it will take you to the site and its right below this post.

Last week’s exercises felt really good & satisfying.  I kind of ruined my sleep pattern over the weekend though.  I stayed up until after 2:00 am on Friday night.  I was determined to go to bed early on Saturday but it was after 3:00 am by the time I went to bed.  Needless to say I slept in until 8:45 am yesterday and did my exercise after cleaning up Brewster’s dry diarrhea in my exercise area.

I did add an extra 50 crunches to yesterday’s exercise & I hope to keep it at that level.  There’s also a possibility that I’ll add 30 more shoulder raises twice a week within the next month.  My weights went well this morning so the shoulder raise might increase in more repetitions in a couple months?

It’s a short 4 day week & Kim has Monday off too.  I think I’ll do 5 days of exercise this week anyways.  Friday’s post might be a bit later than usual?

The hacker did it last night & it looks like more of the same tonight.  Kim watches more TV than I do so I’m guessing they got into our digital cable since our hour long news last night & tonight is/was 4 hours long and blocked & will block stuff Kim watches.  MESS WITH ME, NOT MY FAMILY & FRIENDS!  Got me again this morning I woke up to what I thought was the hatch to the attic flapping in the wind.  Nope it was this, which I don’t own on my iPod and I may start streaming some…

Kim amazes me every day.  Out of the blue it’s 6:30 pm on Saturday, we hadn’t even discussed supper.  She was in the kitchen baking so I got out of the way, not enough room for both of us in the kitchen with me in my wheelchair.  She calls me to kitchen saying “Supper’s ready”.  I had no clue she was making supper too.  I go to the kitchen & she has baked/roasted yam fries & barbeque steak ready to eat.  I just asked before & after supper if there was anything I could do or help with & she’s all “No, I got this”  WOW.  I told you she’s SUPER AWESOME!

I get a weekend, it’s just cut into chunks.  Half of Friday, half of Saturday, & all of Sunday.  I’m paying guitar whenever I can though.  Even for 3 minutes.  They’re on stands in the open.  I can roll up to one grab it and practice something for a bit.  Or I’ll play one of my semi hollow guitars if I’m watching TV with Kim, she always tells me that my acoustic is too loud.  Weekends are very tame here, Covid or not.

I’m more than ready to see a live band but at the same time I’m nervous about catching the virus.  I know “Foo Fighters” are itching to play live.  I know “Big Wreck” has something for fans come November.  If there were live concerts scheduled for early next year, I’d be in assuming we’ve all had 2 shots of the vaccine.  I might look like an idiot since I’d still be wearing a mask, but at least I’d be safe.  Maybe I should get a matching iPatch?

Why didn’t I include the members of “Big Wreck” in my wish list?  My Thinline Telecaster is signed by Ian Thornley & I love that guitar, it sounds great!  It’s not his signature “Suhr” guitar (new in mid-2020), but it’s great!  I wouldn’t change it ever.  I’ve never played a “Suhr” guitar.  I know they’re expensive, I hear they’re fantastic, & they look similar to “Fender” guitars.

The only guitar I’d change, just for an upgrade, if I had the money is my PRS S2 Custom 22 semi hollow to the new 2021 PRS Core Special semi hollow, a Core PRS is just too much moola for me at over $5000.

https://www.prsguitars.com/index.php/electrics/model/special_semi_hollow_2021

It’s the same colour as my Custom 22, it has phase 3 locking tuners, 3 different pickups compared to my 2, and a thicker, prettier, & a MUCH more expensive maple top on it that is hand carved, mine is thinner, cheaper, and machine beveled but it sounds GREAT!  If I had that much money burning a hole in my pocket, I’d order it & wait a year or more for it to be made.  That’s probably something I’d do when I’m 75+ years old.  Sell my guitars for a really nice one to give to someone when I die?  It’s a thought for now.

Just reading up on my 3 final guitar purchases!  S2 McCarty 594 started in January of 2020 that’s my next order/purchase.  The Godin radiator & Sterling Cutlass were put into production this January.  The end is near & I like it!  I can’t stop looking at that Godin Radiator, I just LOVE the look of it.  It looks like a very simple design but it sounds like a beast & it’s so affordable, I love it & I’m super excited to get one……in two years.

The S2 McCarty 594 is VERY expensive & will be approaching my limit on a single guitar purchase.  An actual Core PRS is FAR beyond what I would pay!  Those are for “…doctors n’ lawyers n’ such…”  The Godin & Sterling combined are far less than the S2 McCarty 594!  I’m not even sure which guitar I’m so excited about the PRS, Godin, or Sterling?!  Probably the PRS S2 because I’ve wanted it for what feels like forever closely followed by the Godin because it’s got a great sound, different looking Les Paul, & it’s made in Canada, then the Sterling because of the roasted maple neck which is a new trend in the guitar world & locking tuners on a very inexpensive guitar!

Do you remember that feeling in your stomach as a young kid on Christmas Eve?  That’s how I felt this weekend!  I don’t know if I was just excited to order the guitars, glad that they’re all newer production runs, that 2 of the 3 are super inexpensive but AWESOME, or that I was done guitar shopping!  If I could I’d have rushed out & ordered them all ASAP!  “I felt like such a little girl”!

What REALLY gets my goat is that when I get the money from the sale of my 7 string & with the money I have saved in the bank to spend on these 3 guitars.  I’d have enough to order & buy the Godin & Sterling, but I’d have to save even more to order the PRS S2.  All of this depends on what I sell the 7 string for & I’m pretty sure I’m not out to lunch on what I’m thinking!?

New guitars have skyrocketed in price in the last 20 years.  It’s probably a good combination of my ignorance & inflation in the market.  The stuff I have from the beginning of 2001 to the end of 2002 would now cost $500 or more than it did then.  Cheap nice guitars & used guitars all over the USA if you live there, Canada….not so much.  The S2 line of PRS is roughly $700 less if you live in the USA & depending on what model you’re buying.  Even the Canadian made Godin is $100 less in the USA.  This has already turned into a guitar shopping blog.  Sorry about that, I’ll pull back on that topic “I plomise”.  Skip to the 2:30 minutes.

I’m just in a really good mood being done with guitar shopping for different sounds & tunings.  I guess I’m also excited for regular season Blue Jay baseball that starts this week.  I can watch baseball & play my LOUD acoustic and finally put these parts together, instead of the song being in 3 different sections that I can get up to speed!

I really don’t like that my cancer affected so many other people at the time than just me.  If it was just me, that would have be fine.  It’s much like my ongoing issue with my computer hacker.  Mess with me all you want, but don’t affect other people.  Too bad the world doesn’t work that way.

We rented “Promising Young Woman” Saturday night.  Sad, odd movie but VERY interesting/gripping story.  Sad and satisfying ending.  I’d recommend it.

I tallied up how many TV shows I watch a week & including the daily/nightly talk shows, “Blue Jay” baseball, & “Saskatchewan Roughrider” football w/ games that affect them in the standings the grand total is a whopping 10 and there’s usually a guitar in my hand practicing a pattern I’m working in a song.  Something I know mentally but that I can practice without looking at my hands.

I just saw a monologue by Jimmy Kimmel poking fun at T****.  I wish the media would get off of this topic.  He’s not President, he had no wisdom for anyone during the pandemic, went golfing on tax payer’s money, & told the public to inject disinfectant.  He wasn’t relevant then, other than being a terrible Preident/Leader & he’s even less relevant now.  The less we all talk about maybe he’ll just go away?   I know it’s topical click bait, but HOLY T**** fatigue!

I’ve picked 4 electric guitar songs to finish learning in the next however long it takes?  I’ll give myself 2 weeks.  I knew 1 before I got sick & I’ve messed around a bit with the other 3.

I started working on 3 of them on Sunday.  I don’t wait for things to happen with what I do.  If I’m teaching someone to do something, I’ve got all the time in the world they need to understand it.

I spent the majority of my time on guitar last week learning & applying improvisational skills, replaying a few song, creating bits & pieces of songs, learning basic 12 bar blues licks & chords, & playing these 2 songs a LOT…

“Royal Blood” released their 3rd single from their upcoming album ‘Typhoons’ out on April 30th.

I’ve seen them twice, first opening for “Foo Fighters” the 2nd time they opened for “Queens of the Stone Age” on their most recent tour in 2019 or 2018?  Turned my dad onto “Queens of the Stone Age” a bit too.  I’ve seen “Foo Fighters” 5 times & my dad has seen them 4 times the first time he saw them was just after I came out of a coma & my parents took the tickets Kim & I had bought months before in 2007 & they both cried all the way through the concert, because they were watching my favourite band still not knowing if I’d survive.

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

Exercise total for 4 days.

250 Curls w/ 20 pound dumb bells

150 Shoulder raises/Chest presses w/ 10 pound dumb bells

600 Crunches

600 Leg lifts

200 Squats

400 Back flexes

3 days of crunches, leg lifts, squats, & back flexes.  Then Thursday was just stretching because I was very sore & while stretching I think I lightly pulled a quad muscle?

Since I’ve been out of the hospitals & my therapies I notice that I have 3 re-occurring dreams, they are as follows.  For context I turned 41 in January and I took French immersion from kindergarten to grade 12 graduation.

In the first of these dreams, I’m late for high school.  I’m supposed to turn in a project for French class that morning.  I get to my locker in the empty halls because I’m late & I have no clue as to what my locker combination is.  I fumble with the lock, trying multiple random number combinations, in my dream I start sweating, then I wake up in a panic & think I’m late for school with no start on a project that’s due.  Then I realize that I’m not late for anything, it’s sometime between 1-5:00 am & I don’t go to school.  Why is this weird?  I was rarely late, under 10 times, and in high school I always handed in an essay/project/report on time, that I remember.

2nd dream.  I’m downtown somewhere in a random parking lot.  I park my 2nd car, a 1989 used Ford Tempo, & go into the store.  It’s a one floor department store & I’m looking at discount furniture?  I leave the store empty handed only to find that my car is gone.  Out of nowhere my dad shows up despite me not calling anyone for help.  We’re running down a back alley watching 2 strangers break into cars & steal them as were hiding and peeking around random objects in the alley.  Then I wake up?

3rd dream, & this one kind of makes sense since this almost happened in my early 20s.  I’m driving that used 1989 Ford Tempo (I paid $2000 for it in the early 2000s).  I go to slam on the brakes and nothing happens?  I wake up before I hit anything but I’m stretched out in bed trying to push on the brake pedal.

In reality I remember driving to my Grandparents’ house alone in that car for supper.  It was the summer.  At that point the brakes were questionable in that vehicle & needed repair.  I was driving on a quiet side street to get to their place.  Suddenly a little girl (under 10 years old) is riding her bike in the middle of the street.  I slammed on the brakes as hard as I could with both feet.  She froze & I leaned on the horn with my tires screeching.  I stopped in time, probably 4 feet away from her.  My car had turned sideways a bit, but she was OK.  I was a pile of nerves & broke into a cold sweat.  I’m pretty sure she didn’t realize what could have happened.  She was just frozen on her bike in front of my car.  I waved her on to keep going.  She carried on & I pulled over to the other side of the street.  I needed a few minutes to collect myself & calm down, I was freaked out!  After a couple minutes I carried on as usual.  I’ve never told anyone that, although I’ll likely never forget it.

This isn’t a re-occurring dream but I had it Wednesday night, in all of my dreams I’m able bodied.  I was at my deceased Grandfather’s condo.  We were barbequing chicken wings & having fruit smoothies in the summer.  I went inside to make more fruit smoothies.  I was rushing but I was in the house for a long time.  I went back out to the BBQ.  My Grandfather & brother were there & they called it done since I took so long.  That’s where my dream ended.  I woke up Thursday morning with severe pain in my hip flexors & pain on the bottom of my feet?  Kim says I do twitch a lot in my sleep, toes & fingers are constantly moving.  I’ve never BBQ with my grandfather at his condo, only at our family cabin.

After I published Tuesday’s post, I went to watch stuff on www.youtube.com.  I opened a video where a former record producer listened to the top 10 rock songs as listed by Spotify.  The top 4 songs were from 3 albums I just bought or pre-ordered on iTunes.  This doesn’t mean anything, I just thought it was nice to know that other people are into this stuff.

4, 3, 2, & 1 in that order above.

I’m nowhere near as hip or connected to pop culture as I once was.  Especially now at the age of 41, I know I stopped being hip long ago though.  I rarely watch TV outside of the 7ish shows I watch, including the news.  I do watch the odd Saturday Night Live though.  I missed the one hosted by Dan Levy with musical guest Phoebe Bridgers.  No disrespect but I’ve only watched the first 3 episodes of Schitt’s Creek & I have no clue who Phoebe Bridgers is?

She smashed her guitar on stage at the end of her 2nd & final song.  A year ago I would’ve been terribly offended by that, along with SO MANY other people on social media.  Then I realized a couple things.  I grew up watching “Nirvana” demolish EVERYTHING on stage at the end of a show when I was a teenager.  I also realized that I know absolutely nothing about her & I didn’t pay for the guitar, so who am I to judge?  Sure, I’d love to see her do something else with it, like donate to a charity or keep it.  If whoever paid for the guitar is OK with it being smashed, I don’t really care nor do I see any reason to lose sleep over it.

Why I will never buy a Gibson Les Paul, other than the astronomical price.

Myles Kennedy (Alter Bridge singer) released the first single from his upcoming solo album “The Ides of March” to be released May 14th.  Yeah I thought “That’s not March 15th?”

I’m going to stop writing this stuff at the end of 2021 or one post into 2022.  I’m getting pretty bored of writing this stuff.  I live it & regurgitate it to you & I’m pretty “simple” to begin with.  Eat, exercise, eat, shower, eat, play guitar, eat, play more guitar, have supper, watch TV, play guitar, sleep & repeat.

I’ll buy the PRS S2 McCarty 594 a soon as I have the cash.  When I order the PRS S2 McCarty 594, I’ll have to wait at least 6 months for it.  Then save and repeat but the wait might not be as long?  I’m excited to get any guitar but when I have the money (in a few years) & order this guitar, it’ll feel like another level!  I’m not undermining the importance and flexibility of other guitars I own, but this PRS S2 model is said to be THE guitar in the PRS S2 line!

After a TON of thought, the Schecter Tempest, although I REALLY liked the majority of what it offers, might be too similar in sound with a few less features compared to the McCarty 594.  I’ve also realized that I’m not a huge fan of the Stratocaster body shape, so as I was searching throughout last week & this gem kept showing up & won me over with a MUCH more different sound & MUCH lower price tag (less than $650 after tax), despite this purchase being many years away.

Go ahead guitar gear heads, it says “Squier” instead of anything else.  I’m not paying a ton of cash for a bigger brand name.  I’ve got a Fender & a PRS S2, good enough for me! Hopefully the split coil on the McCarty 594 is as good as they say.  A full on hollow body will be completely different from ANYTHING I have and be a great ending chapter to my guitar purchasing…if it’s still around.

I tried to force ‘guitar mojo’ on a Stratocaster, but that never works.  Had to be exactly what I wanted because I don’t want to shop for another guitar.  Guitars give me FOMO, fear of missing out, since I don’t have a disposable income for anything let alone guitars, so if they go out of production before I save the money to buy it, I get kinda sad.  I guess these purchases are more of a hopeful occurrence in the future.

Other than it being very cold in Regina this week, it’s been a good satisfying week of exercise.  Some ‘communication breakdowns’ getting all of my refills from the doctor to the pharmacy, but we got it figured out by the time I needed everything.

The Covid active cases are on decline throughout the province of Saskatchewan since January 12th.  As per the restrictions, nothing changes until further notice on February 19th.  I guess that’s fine, I would prefer tighter restrictions but I’m not a politician?

As I’ve said many times before, I really watch a miniscule amount of TV & I missed “The Ellen Degeneres Show” on her birthday show.  New DVR, so I don’t know if it was me, a user problem, or if something went wonky with the DVR box?

Right now I’m playing a handful of songs by “Pearl Jam”.

I’m continuously running through these “Stone Temple Pilots” song as well & other stuff too.  Keeps me busy.

The music I like is mostly from the 1990s, there’s usually some “Soundgarden”, “Alice in Chains”, “Rage Against the Machine”, “Audioslave”, & always “Foo Fighters”, etc. being played on guitar here.  Then as far as a little bit of metal goes “Metallica”, “Megadeth”, “In Flames, “Trivium” and eventually some “Lamb of God”.  For the 7 string it’s “Trivium” a dash of “Dream Theater” and I like coming up with stuff on the 7 string.

We’re watching TV Thursday evening.  Kim picks out a documentary & instantly grabs her cell as usual, & it drives me nutz!  I said to her, as I always do “You’re not even watching your show?”  I get the usual reply from her “I’m listening”.  Then I caught her with “But the show is subtitled and in Swedish?”  BOOM!

April 30th marks the 3rd album titled ‘Typhoons’ from “Royal Blood” who released a video for the title track!

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

Exercise total for 5 days.

500 Curls w/ 20 pound dumb bells

300 Shoulder raises/Chest presses w/ 10 pound dumb bells

1050 Crunches

1050 Leg lifts

300 Squats

600 Back flexes

Wednesday came & my energy drifted away in the afternoon while playing guitar.  I stayed up too late on Tuesday night & it caught up with me.  I was practicing random songs and got tired.  Instead of abandoning the guitars I figured I’d learn how to play a few songs.  One in a weird tuning.  The other was just new chords to me in normal tuning.

Weird tuning

Never bothered to learn it, different chord shapes to me

I also found out that PRS no longer make ANY custom 22 guitars.  So I’m glad I got my PRS S2 Custom 22 semi-hollow last year.  They do offer 2 different semi-hollow guitars in the S2 range but they’re not the same guitar at all.

What are we gonna talk about now?  No more T**** & I know what my last 2 guitars will be.  Rrrrrright, that brain cancer thing.

I’m good, I’ll run out of pills by Friday but we’ve checked in with my doctors & we just have to pick up some refills.

“…I’m not crazy because I take the right pills everyday…”

Being in a wheelchair is routine now to an extent.  I did almost go to stand up from the couch last week without getting my chair in place or grabbing my transfer pole.  I caught myself before I stood up though.  On Wednesday after I showered I was testing my balance & stood up on my own for quite a while, for me, maybe 1:15 minutes?  Nice thing was that I wasn’t really trying, which might be the key to it?  It’s only January and every week that I’ve been exercising this year I’ve been “exhausted” by Wednesday or Thursday.  I’m not about to let up though.

I was going to get into this room on Wednesday & practice some “In Flames” & older “Queens of the Stone Age” stuff but I just didn’t have the energy.  Theory, scales, new chords, & different tunings instead.

Most of the “In Flames” stuff is in drop B flat, early “Queens of the Stone Age” & other stuff is in C standard so to switch between those tunings I only have to change the tuning of one string once I’m in C standard.  Nothing drastic with that, it’s just convenient to have a guitar already tuned to C standard.  “Pearl Jam”, “Led Zeppelin”, “Soundgarden”, “Big Wreck”, “Alter Bridge”, etc. are all over the map with alternate tunings.  Once I get deep into that stuff, I just throw my scales & theory stuff away and play, then you can come up with stuff that sounds different fairly easy.  With all of those alternate tunings on guitar, I do keep a few in standard tuning E A D G b e.  I want/need to learn more about that & most songs are written in standard tuning or drop D tuning.

I know that it seems odd to some that a guy in a wheelchair who couldn’t even feed himself is playing guitar, doing dishes, cooking, exercising, etc.  Those are all little things that make me feel normal.  I think that’s the real goal of any rehab, make the patient capable of feeling a sense of normalcy, if not getting them back to their regular self.  I come into this room & get to escape reality by picking up a guitar & forgetting stuff or I watch too many news clips & get angry, I prefer the guitar stuff.

“Foo Fighters” at President Biden’s inauguration concert

Thursday was a MUCH better day.  I slept well & got my butt in gear.  I ate, exercised, watched a recorded show from Wednesday, showered had lunch, & spent the day (noon-5 pm) practicing my butt off on guitar.  Kim even came in to give me a compliment.  She said “You’re driving me nuts!  You play & it sounds really good, then you stop and play the tutorial video & I can’t tell if it’s you or the video?  I have to listen very close”.  Usually she just tunes me out…on guitar or when speaking to her!  Only bad thing about Thursday afternoon was that the time just flew by too fast & I only worked on 3 songs, they we’re all new to me but still!?  I wanted to play some more guitar, so after supper & a bit of news on TV, I came in here & played for another 1 ½ hour, & played some other stuff on other guitars.  Am I great?  NOPE, but it’s fun & will get better as I play!

Today I’ll work on learning more about the 7 string & a bit of theory behind it.

May 30th “Royal Blood” will be releasing their 3rd album.  I’ve been lucky enough to see them twice.  Opening for Foo Fighters once & opening for Queens of the Stone Age!  New album is titled “Typhoons”.  2 singles have been released!

“Foo Fighters” released a video on Tuesday morning.  Their latest single from their upcoming album release ‘Medicine at Midnight’ out on February 5th.

CANADIAN BIKINI SEASON IS OFFICAILLY OVER!

Welcome back to the program!  You’re here so if you like what you see, might as well subscribe?  Either on Facebook or with your email in the bottom right corner, it’s really that easy & it’s free!  I know you want to tell your friends, go ahead!

We Canadians had our Thanksgiving this weekend which officially marks the end of Canadian Bikini season.  I’ve never heard of a date to commence bikini season but we’ve had too much food now to look respectable in a bikini.  Picture me in a bikini………let that sink in.  Most Canadians likely celebrated on Sunday.  My grandmother celebrated her 85th birthday on Friday.  My family had Thanksgiving/birthday supper on Saturday.  I ate WAY too much & felt a little bloated/tired the next day.  I did stay away from stuffing, gravy, & my least favourite food of all….potatoes!  Everything else & pumpkin/caramel cheese cake were greatly enjoyed!

Other than it being a Saturday & masks until we were inside, it was a relaxing break at my parents’ house & as usual we were all tired and full by 7:30 pm.

What am I thankful for this year?  LOTS!  My family & friends, all of which are in good health during this pandemic.  The fact that I have more than the basic necessities to live.  My amazing wife!  I’m pretty happy just to be alive despite this weird world.  Mostly I’m thankful that I’ve realized that we don’t have to catch up to anyone & I now feel like I can relax a bit & enjoy a few more moments without stressing over what needs to be done next.

Kim felt ambitious the next day & rearranged the kitchen, as we may list the condo in the spring.  Things moved between the pantry & 3 drawers.  I stayed out of the way, watched some TV and of course played guitar mostly.

With it being flu season & Covid numbers on the rise, I’m guessing this might be an odd Christmas unless everybody starts doing things like they did in March.  I see another lockdown on the horizon…I hope.  Covid is getting out of hand.  I say mandatory masks, 2 months of quarantine, & substantial fines if a person is found in public with no mask, $500.  There’s a reason I’m not a part of the government.  Unless we see a serious decline in Covid cases, 2020 will have a HUGE impact on the holiday season in December, at least that’s what I think?

Sunday I watched an episode of “Unsolved Mysteries” & that night I watched part of “American Murder” on Netflix.  Real life crime stories, I’m in!

Finished “American Murder” and went to bed after getting bad chills up my spine from the documentary.  Usually real life crime stories don’t bother me?  Maybe it was the use of so much previously recorded social media video & texts that got to me?  CREEPY!

$5000 guitar effect pedal!  WOW!  I don’t get how a pedal could be so much, but I’m glad I saw the video.  Any guitar pedal over $300 is not something I’d even think about going for, I also like having fewer pedals to deal with.  I have 3 and one of them is a tuning pedal.  The amplifier I’m hoping to buy has 15 programmable effects on it & 60 more if you want to go to the tone studio website to get more.  I can’t see myself hooking up a guitar amplifier to the internet?

https://www.long-mcquade.com/154076/Guitars/Guitar-Amps/Boss/Katana-50-MkII-Combo-Amplifier.htm

https://www.long-mcquade.com/12567/Guitars/Guitar_Effects/Boss/FS-6_-_Dual_Footswitch.htm

The amplifier is $4700 less than the pedal but will do 60X more things.  WOW!

We didn’t get around to making a guitar video this weekend.  Kim’s been VERY busy with work, Thanksgiving, & reorganizing the kitchen.  She has a cell phone & I don’t.  Any videos or photos you see are captured with her cell phone.  I don’t even know how those things work since I avoid them.  I’ll hear Kim’s phone go “Bing” in the distance and it drives me nuts!

“The Struts” have an album out on Friday called “Strange Days”, “Royal Blood” released a stand-alone single near the end of September, & “Nothing but Thieves” will be releasing their album “Moral Panic” on the 23rd.

I’m anxiously awaiting “Nothing but Thieves”.  I never listen to singles, if “Royal Blood” saved the song for a 3rd album I’d likely get it.  I like “The Struts” but I hope the rest of the album is better than this latest single?

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

I fell asleep to “Queens of the Stone Age” the album “Lullabies to Paralyze”, followed by “Royal Blood” the album “How did we get so Dark?”

I exercised to “Candlebox” the album “Into the Sun”

5 day exercise total; 400 pushups, 600 leg lifts, 300 crunches, 200 tricep lifts, 450  squats, 300 back flexes, & some walking this week.

I don’t know why, but Wednesday I was extremely tired?  I’m guessing it’s likely because I got up at 7:30 am, after going to bed around 11:15 pm the night before.  I got up & did my exercises, had breakfast, then showered before we left to see the doctor at 10:30 am.  I ended up being ready to go with an hour to wait until we left.

I didn’t really get to rest between my sets of the 4 exercises on Wednesday.  I was rushing through everything, because I didn’t want to be late for the appointment.

My exercises tires me out on a normal day, not taking a full minute of rest between sets made me over tired.  When I got home, I made my lunch & stretched out on the couch.  I fell asleep for 20 minutes or so listening to “Flatlined” from Ontario.

We played shows with them as they toured across Canada a few times.  Great band & great people.  Whenever they came to Regina, we’d play a show with them.  Even when I was diagnosed with cancer, they made a point of coming to the hospital to see me in 2008.  Great band that didn’t get the recognition they deserved!

https://itunes.apple.com/ca/album/deaf-leading-the-blind/385897924

A TON of mutual respect between our bands.

I was REALLY psyched to see “Into Eternity” on April 20th but alas that is Easter weekend among a few other responsibilities.

Apple has banned any & every non-iTunes or non-Apple Music purchase from being on their music player at the end of March.  If you don’t buy or stream your music from Apple music or iTunes, they will take it away.  This will bite them in the butt!  I’m 39 years old.  My entire life I’ve been allowed to trade cassettes, CDs, & vinyl with no issue.  I’ll continue to purchase music from iTunes, since my 160 gb iPod still works & I use it daily.

I’ll still be able to order a CD from www.amazon.ca , I’ll also be able to purchase a CD & support the artist at a show.  It feels a lot like Apple is making up the rules as we go along.  With this type of decision making the President might have a job after politics!

Won’t this be very close to creating a monopoly for Apple as far as actually downloading music?  If so, I’m jumping off the Apple bandwagon, if possible.  Great move in theory, not in reality though!

What should Apple do?  I’ve got 7 CDs that are not on Apple Music or iTunes, put EVERYTHING on Apple Music & iTunes.  They’re either out of print or the group didn’t become popular enough for Apple to acknowledge them?  From now on I guess it will have to be from Apple or CD for any other player.

When my iPod dies, I’m thinking about sending it in for the 128 GB iPod Touch & switching to a different player & using Kim’s 1st generation iPhone for it, no the number will not be activated!

Toronto Blue Jays preseason ends on Tuesday after 4 televised games starting tomorrow.  A day off on Wednesday, then the regular season starts on Thursday!  Very young team, this season will likely be full of “growing pains”

You’re welcome!!!

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

When you think you’re going to have a quiet weekend & you get a late Saturday morning phone call from your mother saying your brother is in the hospital, about to have surgery for appendicitis.  All went well!

He’ll be fine but will stay there overnight and be released today.  I’d much prefer it to be me, then I wouldn’t worry as much.

HONORABLE MENTIONS (Really nothing bad about these albums)

Dead Sara – Temporary Things Taking up Space EP

Dead Sara – Anybody “Acoustic” Single

Easily my favourite song of the year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CONCERTS I SAW THIS YEAR

Big Wreck (Regina)

I Mother Earth & Finger 11 (Regina)

Queens of the Stone Age w/ Royal Blood opening (Calgary)

Comedian Jim Jeffries (Regina)

Foo Fighters (Calgary)

Comedian Craig Ferguson (Regina)

Boney M (Regina)

Usually I head up to Saskatoon to see Trivium on tour.  They skipped Saskatchewan completely this time.  Typical Canadian during a North American tour is, Montreal, Toronto, & maybe Vancouver now.  The fact that I got to see all of this stuff live is pretty cool.  Only had to go to Calgary to see Queens of the Stone Age with Royal Blood & Foo Fighters.

If I had to pick my favourite concerts of the year, Queens of the Stone Age & Boney M. would both take the win.  Could be that it was my first time seeing both bands live.  Boney M’s rhythm section was INCREDIBLE!!!!!!

Here’s what to expect in 2019.  Big Wreck, Alter Bridge, Anthrax, Devin Townsend, Dream Theater (already preordered for release Feb. 22), Megadeth, Tool, Lamb of God, Mark Morton (Lamb of God guitarist) preorder January 11, full release March 1st, Rob Zombie, Slipknot, Chevelle, & In Flames (preordered available January 11).  Likely more, that’s just off of the top of my head.

I’m really excited for the ‘In Flames’ album, full release March 1st.

The last Tool album was released in 2006, the last System of a Down album was released in 2005.  There will be a new Tool album before a System of a Down album.

Megadeth might release a song for preorder this week?

A baseball player is offered more than what he asked for from his previous team as a free agent, $300,000,000 over 10 years.  More than that was offered & he turned it down.  He must really not like where he was, I doubt any other team will offer him $10,000,000 a year to play a game for a living?  Once he hits the age of 30 or shortly thereafter you see almost all players start to decline athletically.  The back end (the last 3-5 years) of $300,000,000 will be terrible if he gets that deal.
