WEEKEND UPDATE

I’m going to leave this first paragraph until I have 100 subscribers

Really please help me out?

PLEASE share this link & pass it around to those that might enjoy. Tell them how to subscribe from a desktop or laptop computer! Let’s get some more people on board? http://www.amillionmilesawayblog.com Don’t feel as though you need to click on every link. I’ll do this so nobody else has to. I’m on face book & email only. I’ve found people on face book that I’ve lost track of over the years, so let’s use email to talk with each other. Up there are instructions on how to subscribe. I’m at 30 subscribers so all 30 of you please help me out?
Even though you subscribe to the blog I always recommend coming to the site to read it in case someone comments on a topic. Comments are always welcomed. If you’re using “Internet Explorer” or “Google Chrome” as a web browser the http://www.youtube.com links will be open to show you the title, artist & a still photo of the video. I have to switch between the 2 since the audio doesn’t work all of the time on one of them.

Hard rock fans, buy this “Red Dragon” album by Room 333, which is compared to “La Gargola” by Chevelle!

These will get much shorter. Blue Jays spring training games start on Tuesday, I’ll be spending less time in here & more time on the couch, when the regular season starts April 13th , they play almost everyday they get 2 days off a month all through August & a bit of September.

If it’s a good song to you, who really cares if others don’t like it? You don’t like Foo Fighters or Big Wreck, that’s cool. There are many fans complaining about Foo Fighters new album & the In Flames album. That’s fine with me, I like them. There’s very little Metallica I enjoy, does that really matter to their fan base? I don’t think it would?

Best advice I’ve ever received, one from my physiotherapist Robin Dowel-Macpherson and one from my father & one from my mother Barb Fraser. A) “Will this matter to you in 20 years?” B) “Why waste your energy being angry?” C) “Let it go, it gets heavier every second you hold on to it” All of us should do that more often, me included!

I’ve never really understood the attraction to circle pits where you just run in a circle. I think it’s my age? I’ve been in a few mosh pits, where it’s just chaos & crowd surfing. I’ll try this again! “That Stupid Band”

December 5th ’99 My Grandmother passed of breast cancer. The rest of that month I would drive to Moose Jaw & back while blasting “There is Nothing Left To Lose” by Foo Fighters. . That “stupid band” helped me through that. I didn’t show up for an English final exam in University. Then my brother’s depression they helped me deal with. With one song “My Hero” broke down sobbing in my parents basement when Kim and I first started dating. Couldn’t play the song on my guitar all the way through!

I don’t understand why there are people labeled as “music snobs”. If you don’t like something don’t listen to it, pretty easy! If you’re in a bar, restaurant, mall, etc. wait a few minutes until something you like comes on or leave. Don’t make a fuss about it. Example, I don’t like 99% of the music at the Saskatchewan Roughriders games, but the music is not why I’m there! I’m there to watch a football game. Nobody can tell me “Hey, that’s terrible! Listen to this instead!”. Anyone can SUGGEST something to me & I’ll check it out, see if I like it? This blog is about the music I like, just a suggestion. You don’t have to agree. If you don’t like it that’s fine with me. I’m not a Jehovah Witness telling you to listen to this, vote for this, believe in this, etc. You do what you want with your life & if I don’t like it, I’ll get over it.

I wasted so much time & energy being a person I would hate if someone said those things to me! The best advice that I have ever received about anger is “Are you going to worry about this in 20 years?” Robin Dowel-Macpherson, my physiotherapist, told me this when I was swearing at myself walking with my walker. Nope, don’t let the little things bother you, because it really doesn’t matter in the big picture. She & Mei helped me quite a bit other than physio therapy & occupational therapy. Awesome people!

I’ll leave you with a song today….

SUCK IT UP!

Monday, July 28th 2014

I moved to 32 from 34 on the CFL page and missed preseason picks and the entire first week of the regular season. You get 2 points for regular season games 1 point for preseason, 3 for playoffs and I believe 4 for picking the Grey Cup winner, at least I think that’s how it works? Playoffs and the Grey Cup might be wrong? So 32nd out of 142!

Ted Nugent gets a warning! Why?

This is exactly what I wanted to talk about today. I think as a society we’ve grown to be a little over sensitive. No I’m not about to go on a rampage pointing out various minor flaws in others like I did on the previous link, that is long gone now. I admit I was not a pleasant person in the least, I wasn’t even a fan of myself. All of that being said, if someone wants to act something like I did, just keep giving them more rope and tell yourself “This could be hilarious when whoever sits down to read what they’ve done. I don’t want to be that person ever again! I realize what I wrote publically and privately & it was terribly rude.

Here’s one example that happened to me and how people are becoming soft. A person no longer a “friend” of mine on facebook, “unliked” me. Weird sense of humour, swearing and complaining about Regina drivers. What did I say? 3 words & 3 words only “First world problems”. That was it, and I was instantly “unfriended” on facebook? Was that really over the line? I don’t think it was? Does that sound anything like an attack? What did I hear in response? “You pissed me off. I am the nicest person in the world”. Who gets to determine that? Not that individual! Friends of that person can say that.

So lighten up world, it could be worse! As long as you’re happy & healthy, you’ll be fine, maybe you’re going through a ruff patch, best advice I ever got was from my physiotherapist. “Are you going to worry about this in 20 years?” “Why worry about it now then, just a waste of energy”. As my father always tells me “Why bother getting upset?” Maybe laugh at yourself and not others, I do!

CANADIAN ROCK BANDS ARE REUNITING

Wednesday, March 26th 2014

I say this with a tear in my eye. The Canadian band I hated in the ’90s is back and I don’t like ripping on bands, but this one got me down. Many, many others will love this news, not me though. MOIST. YAY……………………….for everyone else and BOO for me!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0jJi0SlwuM

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8xBETsR5ck Both from their first album. They debuted in ’94, and everyone around me was acting like it was the 2nd coming of The Beatles. I thought “What? Why? They aren’t good to me?” I’d place them with Metallica, Guns n’ Roses and the ’80s hair metal scene in L.A. Here’s a few tracks I heard on the radio from their second album. A bit better, but still not for me!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8X9ahwoH04

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5-HDxyYlbw#aid=P-JEtTXrNus

They went on to make other albums after that according to iTunes. There weren’t anymore songs on the radio or videos on Much Music. I saw them once in Saskatoon since they were touring with I Mother Earth. Great segue!

I was reading on I Mother Earth’s website that Christian Tanna and Jagori Tanna (drummer and guitar player) are having a lot of fun coming up with new song ideas. I hope that means there’s a possibility of a new album? I’m not counting my chickens yet though! I really like I.M.E. albums. The first alternative rock band I got into, Mitch as well. 4 albums and one single when they got back together! A song from each album and the recent single!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRi6nhp8J40

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=STN2F1oEbdY

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AAs6o-kqRDg My favourite song by them!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m2TqH2rog2c Yes, that’s slap guitar not bass! Jag did that on pretty much every album. This album was titled “The Quicksilver Meat Dream” hence my poor choice of name on the Saskmetal.com board, Meat Dream or has Corey called me “Sausage Fantasy”. Here’s the single http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UBO_kc9XxI

Big Wreck is in the mixing process for their 2nd album since they reunited in 2012 after a 10 year split and 2 Big Wreck albums. They’re also making a video. So here’s a song from the 3 studio albums thus far…..

Chris Messer would ask me “Hey what’s that open riff that you play, how does that go? What’s that song called?” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-AKI951poE

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zsco84fcwj4

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-HmW9rVAtVs

They also have a 7 song live EP on iTunes with the 7th song as a cover…..

Who doesn’t enjoy The Cars?..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gwjlFFeR01E

The Watchmen are touring not recording though. Every song from them is good and they’re not anywhere near as heavy, just FANTASTIC!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Blh5mTzFNAY 1 of the 6 good things to come out of Winnipeg! The Watchmen, The Franklin family, My Grandparents and Father, The Guess Who, My Physiotherapist and her husband (another David) and Bohemian Beer! The Gagnon family moved to Winnipeg, they didn’t originate in Winnipeg!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rH6g0WVIf9A

The Odds have gotten back together too. 4 albums that started in the ’91.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZ_0R3wtuf8 “Neopolitan” album

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNtjksCUMIA “Bedbugs” album

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZFPiG8dEBk “Good Weird Feeling”

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eimpocAKIv0 “Nest”

The Tea Party are back as well. A 3 piece band with East Indian influences when I saw them way back when!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YfaATa-qmG4 Our first band covered this as well as U2’s “With or Without you” same bass line though, never back to back.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDYIlaaw_yI

That’s more than enough links! To check out if you like? Baseball season begins on Monday for me Toronto Blue Jays vs. Tampa Bay Rays for 4 games in Tampa Bay. This blog might slow down next week? We’ll see.

JUSTIN BIEBER

Tuesday, February 4th 2014

I’ll preface this I’m not a fan of his music in any way, shape or form.  Everybody is slamming him in every way possible.  Everybody wants to make fun of him except day time talk shows for what I know?  Why is he fair game?  Just because he’s in the press/paparazzi?  I don’t care if he’s not in the army at age 19.  Look at what he’s done from the age of 15.  He’s an international pop artist who has already sold millions of albums! What were we all doing at 19?  I started drinking heavily at 19. That’s the legal age for drinking in Saskatchewan.  Yes I drank before I was legal age as well, yet I wasn’t an international pop star, nobody was following me and taking pictures of me.  I wonder why that is?  Maybe because I wasn’t famous?  You must realize he’s a TEENAGER still, even if he was in his early 20s I’d give him a pass, unless he hurts someone!

All I’m saying is leave the KID alone!  Treat others how you’d like to be treated.  If someone acts poorly around  you “…walk away…”

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7-F4sxpmWo

As for the cancer thing, it really feels like a long time ago.  If anybody has a question, just ask and I’ll tell you anything within reason.  Thanks to all of the nurses, therapists, doctors, surgeons and SCAs at The Wascana Rehabilitation Center and the Pasqua and General hospital.  Yes, I still workout 5 days a week.  I am getting stronger, at least I can tell in my upper body and somewhat in my legs.  I don’t ever feel great after a workout unless Kim takes me walking.  I hadn’t planned on doing anything on January 30th but the elevator was out and I walked down and up from and to our suite on the 3rd floor.  Robin Dowle-Macpherson, my physio-therapist, says don’t work on your birthday!
