Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

JUST A POST ON WEDNESDAY.  KIM HAS THURSDAY & FRIDAY OFF NEXT WEEK & SO DO I.

Welcome back to the program!  You’re here so if you like what you see, might as well subscribe?  Either on Facebook or with your email in the bottom right corner, it’s really that easy & it’s free!  I know you want to tell your friends, go ahead!

Stuff I’ve learned on guitar other than 5 or 6 scale patterns I do as a warm up.  All of these songs are new to me on guitar!

450 Curls w/ 20 pound dumb bells

250 Shoulder raises/Chest presses w/ 10 pound dumb bells

500 Crunches

500 Leg lifts

200 Squats

280 Back flexes

1:30 hours of yoga over 2 days

I guess when you think about it I’ve done OK.  Went into the hospital at 265 pounds, dropped to 200 pounds, and couldn’t put on any weight so I ate nothing but sugar until I weighed about 280.  I was at 226 on January 1st & now I’m stronger at a weight of 213 pounds.  In 1998 I was 185 pounds, I know my weight will never be in the 100s.

There’s no secret to my weight loss.  A diet is what you eat all of the time.  It’s not where you change what you eat until you lose weight & return to your previous type of food & beverage.  No matter what you’re eating & drinking over an extended period of time, don’t expect to gain or lose weight.  I’ve been eating the same thing for breakfast, lunch, & 3 small snacks a day since 2015, & I exercise 1:30 hours or more 5 days a week.

I pay attention to what I eat & how much of it.  I drink only water 99% of the time.  2 eggs a day, 0% yogurt, hummus, crackers, fish, 1 banana, and a glass of a mixed vegetable juice that I make, supper is the only wild card & it’s about portion control.  Kim drinks water, coffee, & tea.  We buy 1 liter of skim milk and sometimes use the entire liter before it spoils.  There’s always a vegetable tray in the fridge too.  No pop, just Bubbly sparkling water with natural fruit flavour.

I gotta say that this week my self-motivation to exercise has seriously dropped.  I exercise, but I really don’t like pushing myself to do it.  Maybe my body needs a break?  I’m still sore, stiff & tired.  Hopefully our long weekend next week will do the trick

If I try to relax, I get fidgety, I feel like I should be doing something.  It’s odd, I don’t want to do anything but I feel guilty just doing nothing?  Kim even mentioned it a few weeks ago.

I mentioned in the last post that I’d like another guitar.  I’m saying right now I don’t need another guitar.  I’ve got one on order, I’m saving for another, & I’m saving to upgrade my amplifier.  I need to play/hear the stuff that’s coming to me before I purchase anything else.  I’m VERY happy with what I have & what’s coming to me.  Another guitar, maybe in 4 years or more, or maybe not at all?

All of that being said, there’s a lot of stuff I don’t want & we don’t have a dispossable income.  Who does?  Other than 7 bands that I’ll purchase actual CDs from, 2 or 3 bands on iTunes, & then streaming, I don’t really want anything else.  Maybe 2 X 26 ounce bottles of rum a year but really that’s all.  Saving money for more important stuff should & will be a priority.  Exhibit A; Brewster’s health.  Exhibit B; We’d like to move to a house & not a condo.

I’ve looked into Harley Benton guitars quite a bit.  They’re really low priced knock offs of other brand name guitars.  They’re made somewhere in Asia & sell for $400 or less plus the shipping.  They look nice from a distance.  Some people say they’re great while others have received guitars with serious issues.  I think I’d avoid them.  I don’t want to pay $100 plus shipping to get a guitar that needs $200 worth of work to fix it.  Too many EXTREMELY random issues on the guitars they sell.

Practicing these songs.  I learn from this guy or mostly proper guitar tabs where I’ll have to change one little thing to make it right.

This guy’s AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  There are many more, a lot of stuff fell into place this week.  I still have to put all of the parts together for Led Zeppelin’s “Kashmir”.  Maybe I’ll get brave & post some videos on the Facebook page soon?  That’s still a hard maybe.

Maybe I’m watching the news at the wrong time or people have learned to protest peacefully?  I hope the latter is true.  Nothing has changed other than more people are talking about racial injustice.  That’s a good starting point.  Now keep going!

The Toronto Blue Jays regular season starts on Friday July 24th.  I’ll be watching on TV as usual!

LEARN TO LOVE AGAIN

I hear it’s better to speak than be silent, join in the discussion in “times like these”.

I really hope the world can ‘learn to love again’ as the song says.  I don’t know what I have to offer to the conversation on what’s going on in this crazy world.  I was watching a documentary on Netflix, “13th” this is also on www.youtube.com   I figured if I’m going to talk about racism, that as a white male I should educate myself.

I will say that yes, there is racism in Canada, as I assume there is around the world.  In my city of Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada it’s not black people that receive the racial injustice so much as aboriginals.  I honestly can’t think of a time I acted racist although I’m likely wrong.

I went to public school, I grew up with classmates of all different races.  Even as a child a classmate of mine live down the street, so we would get together to play outside in the 1980s.  I don’t know what his ethnicity was, since it didn’t matter to me.  In technical college I carpooled to school with a classmate who was aboriginal, again no issues.  Nice guy, a Big Brother volunteer, a father.  I didn’t even think of the colour of someone’s skin, I don’t now, & I don’t truly understand how that makes them any different from any other race.  In school my attitude was that were all here for the same reason, we all get along, what’s there to complain about?

I don’t travel, I’ve been outside of Canada once in my life, to Boston in 2007?  I don’t travel because I just don’t find travelling that relaxing.  I’ve met people from around the world here in Canada.  I worked in a hotel in my late teens to early 20s, in the banquets area.  People of all different ethnicities, & typically a different ethnic night once a month.  Chinese New Year, Greek night, Aboriginal council meetings, weddings, cabarets, Christmas parties, etc.  I’ve waited tables, bartended, & have been a busboy for many of these exact events.

High school was full of people with different backgrounds.  Never any issues there either.  I went to the high school where everybody else my age in the city would just assume my parents or myself were rich.  We weren’t rich at all.  I got my driver’s license in 1996, I took my parents’ 4 door 1985 Chevrolet Caprice Classic to go for my test.  One backdoor didn’t work and the other backdoor had a good dent & scrape.  I didn’t care, it was my first car.  I’d drive to school in that, while other kids would drive their brand new VW with their state of the art audio system installed.

I wasn’t rich, but I was privileged.  I was born in 1980.  This is only my 2nd time that I can remember seeing blatant racism on TV, now & the Rodney King beating, briefly, in the 1990s.  I still can’t believe I watched George Floyd get murdered by a police officer while others watched & did nothing.  I have family members & friends that are police officers.  None of them would do something like that, don’t just assume they’re all bad.  Just the same as people of any ethnicity.  There are a few bad apples in EVERY group, no matter what race you are.

This was a great conversation Ellen Degeneres had with Van Jones of CNN.  Something really good to remember when on social media too.  Pease watch all 7 minutes of this clip & hopefully you can learn something from it as I did.

When you see a protester’s sign or hear someone say “Black lives matter” remember that it means “Black lives matter TOO”.  Nobodies saying that other lives don’t matter, they’re saying “Why aren’t black people treated the same way?”

We have to start somewhere with change & we have a lot to do racism, climate change, #metoo, Coronavirus, sexist inequality, mass shootings, etc.  Might as well start with the task at hand.

Watching that documentary the world really hasn’t changed at all since the 1970s.  At least Nixon knew well enough to resign as President.

“Rage Against the Machine” were supposed to reunite this year.  The world could likely use a political voice like theirs right now?  LANGUAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Even here in Canada, as I see what’s happening in the USA on TV, I have to agree with Stephen Colbert “Time to #BYOP, Be Your Own President”.  I find the current President to be VERY irrelevant.

I wish I could or at least knew how to help.  I don’t want to be a guy on the sideline doing nothing.  That’s what frustrates me personally, in general & in this situation especially.  We ALL HAVE to help each other!

Remember, this isn’t a problem with just the USA, it’s a problem that’s likely EVERYWHERE.  My attitude remains the same, “We’re all here for the same reason, & it should be a level playing field for EVERYONE at the start”.

Do yourself a favour & educate yourself by watching the documentary “13th” if you’re in your late teens or older!

After all of that, am I racist?  Quite possibly, I’m definitely ignorant when it comes to the subject.

We’re all Global Citizens,

Chris

TOMORROW

I’ll post tomorrow, I’ll stay involved in the racism conversation.  I educated myself a bit, & I have no intention to have tomorrow’s post sound like I’m preaching at you, that’s never the intention.  When reading tomorrow’s post, know that I’m white privileged & this is new territory for me.  I hope we can all educate ourselves, & I hope I help by showing you a way to do so.

WHAT’S RIGHT WITH THIS WORLD????????????

I know that whatever I say, someone will be critical of it or just not like it, so here it goes.

If I was to write anything a post about what’s right with this world right now, it would nearly be a blank page.  That being said I don’t want to make this too long of a post.  Honestly I don’t know what to write.  After the protests, riots, lootings, etc. over the weekend I’m speechless, especially now after so many people have said a lot of things MUCH better than what I’d ever come up with.

It’s 2020 & look at where we are?  If this is what evolution is, WE failed at it as a GLOBAL community.  Evolution didn’t fail us.

2020 and yet we’re dealing with RACISM, how advanced are we?  How does anyone take another person’s life?  Because of the colour of a person’s skin?  That doesn’t make any sense?  How do bystanders, Caucasian figures of authority, allow this to happen?  Now it’s expected that those of any colour are supposed to trust figures of authority that are Caucasian?  Good luck with that.

A person had to die, millions of people around the world went out to protest peacefully.  Some turned into riots.  The people that began the riots, I ask how does burning a building, looting, or harming another person make you any better than a murderer?  Does anyone think that’s what George Floyd would want to come from any death like his?

We all saw or heard the same thing, but not all of us chose to protest in violence.  You’re undoubtedly supposed to feel some emotion.  Don’t focus that anger on a random fellow protestor or police officer.

For those of you in the USA & are able to vote, take your anger to the voting booth & change things from the top.  “The pen is mightier than the sword”.  For anyone in any country dealing with this & you’re able to vote.  Do so if there needs to be a change!  To those in the USA, this is an election year for you, don’t forget any of this when casting your vote.

After watching the news on Monday & watching the president, I had to just shake my head in not only disapproval but complete disappointment.

Weekly exercise total; 600 pushups, 300 tricep pushups, 175 back flexes, 360 squats, 600 leg lifts, 300 crunches.

I fell asleep to “Neil Young” a greatest hits album

I exercised to “Ben Folds Five” the album “Whatever & Ever Amen”

Yes, I exercise immediately every morning.  Unfortunately cardio is not a regular part of the regular routine.  By the time Kim gets home from work, I’m exhausted & more exercise is usually the furthest thing from my mind.  I’m not blaming anyone for this.  “I need somebody” to assist me so I don’t fall & crack my head open.

The morning exercises help immensely with my walking, which is always assisted & with a walker.  “I’m not satisfied” with my status quo.  I’m not afraid to pile on more exercise, I just need to kick myself in the butt & do more.

I don’t even like talking about this, but it happened.  I don’t want to make a BIG deal about this but it is a BIG deal.  I’d love eradicate racism.  That’s won’t happen with Trump, Un, & Putin in power.  I know I’ll catch crap for this, but it needs to be said.

Abbreviating the “N” word to “Nig” does NOT make it any less offensive.  It angers, saddens, & offends me that people have to deal with this garbage & that the person who said this is a distant blood relative of mine.

I’ll be the first one to tell you that I’m not perfect.  I’ve NEVER even considered using a racial slur at anyone!  My aunt would severely over tan, we were in a restaurant & I said “WOW you look like an Indian”!  I think everyone thought I was using a racial slur regarding the Aboriginal community and told me to quiet down.  WOW were they off.  What I meant is people from India.  How is this racist?  Indian, Canadian, American, African, Australian, Mexican, English, etc.  I find East Indian racist, why do I have to specify Indian as “East” Indian?  Teach me please, should I use another word?

Metal screaming isn’t just noise & not everyone can do it, me included!

“Coheed & Cambria”.  Their new album “The Unheavenly Creatures” – October 5th release date, has some catchy tunes on it.

“Nothing but Thieves” – What did you think made me this way? 4 song EP – October 19th

“Greta Van Fleet” – Anthem of the Peaceful Army, October 19th

“The Struts” – Young & Dangerous, out October 26th on iTunes

“Into Eternity” – The Sirens, out October 26th on iTunes & more importantly www.bandcamp.com the money spent on www.bandcamp.com sends the majority of the proceeds go directly to the band members!

“Tenacious D” – Post Apocolypto, November 2nd on iTunes

“Muse” – Simulation Theory, November 9th on iTunes

No I don’t have all of these on preorder from iTunes.  I have 4/8 on preorder.  I hope to purchase a CD at a future “Into Eternity” show.  I’m holding out on “Tenacious D” since the previous album was more about vulgarity than anything else.  I’m going to wait until November for “Coheed & Cambria”.  I have a TON of music coming to me in October.

I just read a bit about another album release in October 26th, another one I’ll wait for until November.  My limit for October & November is at it’s capacity.

“Chevelle” – 12 Bloody Spies B – Sides & Rarities, October 26th full release date.

That’s it for iTunes purchases for me this year.  Gotta start with the Christmas Gifts, & probably delay more purchases on iTunes this year.

I fell asleep to “Neil Young” his “Greatest Hits”

I exercised to “Tremonti” the album “Dust”

500 leg lifts, 200 pushups, planking, yoga, & 100 back flexes this past week.

That’s 100 leg lifts, 40 pushups, 20 back flexes, planking, & yoga 5 days a week.  First thing I do when I leave the bedroom, then breakfast & a shower.

On Thursday the planking & yoga did not happen.  I wasn’t able to have a nap on Wednesday when I woke up at 4:00 am tossed & turned until 5:00 am then got up.  I was over tired.  I slept in on Thursday, woke up & stayed in bed until 10:00 am.  I was very tired still & just said no to the planking & yoga.

As much as I don’t consider myself as physically handicapped, I’m reminded that I am physically handicapped every day.  “Wait, I have to get into my wheelchair to do anything” is my first thought every day.  I’m lucky though.  I can stand as long as I can hold onto something & put away dishes in the upper cupboards, I can go to the washroom as long as there is a handicap stall, my voice is getting better, it’s not great but it has definitely improved.  I do practice my guitar once a day for about ½ an hour.  I’ll likely never drive again, no biggie!  I don’t want cancer to define me even though it will be a part of my life, likely, until I die many years down the road.

The best part about having had cancer is that I don’t fear death like I used to.  I don’t welcome it, but I don’t fear it.  Now I’m “Satisfied” with my exercise, for a bit anyways.

Thursday evening at the moment.  To say I’m in a bad mood would be a HUGE understatement.  We lived in our first house built in 1955, new mid-efficiency furnace.  The pilot light went out once.  We moved to this condo on December 18th 2013.  Brand new place, we were one of the first 6 suites to move in.  The hallway is always cold!  Our suite is another story, we’re calling, again, for the A/C to be fixed.  It was +35 Celcius today, it’s 7:10 pm & it’s +26 degrees Celcius in here.  This will be the 7th time we’ve had to call about the A/C for our suite.  If you’re cold in the winter, come on over it’s probably beach weather here.

(+26 Celcius = 78.8 Fahrenheit, +35 Celcius = 96 Fahrenheit)

I can’t turn on the A/C in the winter & I’m not allowed to put tinfoil on the windows.  It has to be +15 Celcius outside for me to turn on the A/C. When it’s almost +30 Celcius inside, I don’t care what the temperature is outside.  Yes, we face south and get the sun all day every day.  I loathe the heat.  Why am I sweating at this time of day sitting on the couch watching TV?  This is likely the 7th time we’ve called in 4 years.  That’s likely an under estimated guess.

Well look at that, Kim woke me up before she left for work & had the A/C on.  The plumber came to look at it anyways & will come back next week to check on it.

If you’re here strictly for the cancer news, that’s all I have for you today.

Let me get this straight, & I’m not defending Kathy Griffin in any way.  She posts a photo of Donald Trump’s severed head & we all know it’s fake.  Trump says “She should be ashamed”, true, that was in very poor taste.  HBO airs a TV series, Game of Thrones, full of rape & multiple severed heads of kings.  Sure HBO tells you it’s full of R-Rated stuff, so they’re OK.  Did any political debate have a warning if Trump was involved in the debates last year?  I didn’t watch them all, but the ones I watched had no warnings?  Would anybody want to have their kid looking up to the current president as an idol?  For me they’re both wrong for what they’ve done.  It’s out there now.

I’m assuming the link below will not work by the time I post this.  All I can say about the situation is, Trump blurted things out on the campaign debates.  Kathy Griffin had time to think about what she was doing, it was pre-meditated.

18 years ago on May 31st In Flames released the album ‘Colony’!  I didn’t get into them until I saw them live in Saskatoon 11 years ago, yes I’ve got all of their albums & DVDs now.

Members of ‘Sevendust’, ‘Alter Bridge’, & ‘Tremonti’ gather to create the band ‘Projected’.  I guess they have some albums out on iTunes one from 2011 & 2012, as well as a single from 2011 & 2014.

Don’t most people of my generation miss Chris Cornell?  My favourite album from them is easily “Badmotorfinger”.  Thanks Corey McDonald!

Thursday nothing but stretching & TV. Friday more of the same with a progressive metal show in the evening to kick off the long weekend! The show was really good. I haven’t been to the Exchange in quite a while. There’s somewhat of a metal scene there. We don’t all know everyone’s name but you go in there & recognize around 50% of the people at least! Great show & fun times! Sound was really good also! I can’t imagine doing sound for an opening death metal band, but it sounded very good! 3 bands for $10, good deal! I’m getting old though. The concert ended around midnight, I was tired, WAY past my bedtime!!! It was “Third Ion’s” album release show, really good progressive metal group!!!!!!

Saturday we went to my parents place for supper & to say goodbye to my cousin & uncle back to Winnipeg as of Sunday morning. We stayed there until around 11:00 pm. Staying out past 10:30 pm makes me tired.

Because of staying out so late, I planted myself on the couch to watch The Toronto Blue Jays fall back into 2nd place in their division. The funniest thing this weekend has been that the Blue Jay scored 6 runs in their game Friday night, & the Roughriders scored 3 points Friday night. The baseball team scored more than the football team! Hahahahahaha!

I think Kim is “Superwoman”, she’s more than amazing. Monday thus far has been Murphy’s Law since I went to shower. Kim’s probably sating to herself “That idiot” & she would be right in doing so. Knock on wood, I have yet to fall today!

Stranger Things” on Netflix is REALLY good. It’s a show based in 1983, a group of kids are playing a game & their friend disappears in the first episode & it goes on from there. 8 50 minute episodes & I really hope there’s a 2nd season! Yes I binge watched the last 4 episodes today, Thursday.

Too bad this isn’t the theme song….

I highly recommend “The Ranch” on Netflix starring Ashton Kutcher & Danny Masterson. This show is HILARIOUS!!!!!!!!!! LANGUAGE!!!!!
