Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

Music throughout the weekend. “Halestorm”, “Queens of the Stone Age”, “Tool”, “The Struts”

LANGUAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The second I posted Friday’s blog I went to www.youtube.com & there was already a review of the “Halestorm” album “Vicious”.  The album was released at midnight Thursday night.  WOW, I wait before I judge an album, I like to listen to it a few times & digest it.  That review should be a reaction video!

Here is utter ignorance at its best.  You realize they’re not just denying service to the #LGBTQ community!  I assume the rest of us that support the #LGBTQ community would boycott this establishment as well.  From what I know there is no location in Regina.  If I were to pass by one on a trip I might go in, buy a small meal, finish it, thank them & as I’m on my way out I’d shout “I’M GOING TO SPEAK WITH YOUR MANAGEMENT!  YOU JUST SERVED A GAY PERSON!”  Or I’ll just pass by & avoid a heart attack.  What if the employees have no gaydar?

https://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2018/07/25/chick-fil-a-toronto-canada_a_23489485/

“No, they sound too much like Led Zeppelin” – internet.  OK, if you don’t like Led Zeppelin that’s fine.  If you do like Led Zeppelin, why are you complaining?  Robert Plant, singer of Led Zeppelin, thinks they’re great.  If he doesn’t have a problem with them, why do Led Zeppelin fans?

I love Big Wreck but this sounds much like a specific Led Zeppelin song, other than a general sound.  Ian Thornley even admits that this song was heavily influenced by Led Zeppelin.

Friday was quite/tame here.  We stayed up too late, Kim hit the hay at midnight, while I stayed up to watch ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’.  Kim was grabbing some groceries & taking photos during most of the Blue Jay game, so I watched that since she really doesn’t care for baseball.

Saturday I watched more shark week & went to the Rider game that night.  Kim & Brewster were out & about while I was at the game.

Dear Saskatchewan Roughriders,

Sincerely,

Me.

Today is get ready for the week ahead.  Make a vegetable juice, hard boil some eggs, bake some fish, & try to be positive about cardio for 5 straight days as well as other possible workouts.  Kim will get a few groceries, & finish up the little bit of laundry left to do, then a nice long weekend to look forward to!

GREAT BIG SEA

4 guys from Newfoundland, Canada.  I think I saw them twice in Regina at ‘The Conexus Arts Center’.  I only own their first 2 albums, on CD.  I bought them in my teen years, the ‘90s.  One in 1996 & the other in 1997.  They released 10 studio albums & I believe band member, Alan Doyle, is currently a solo artist?  They’re known for being from Newfoundland & doing some traditional Newfoundland music.  I grew out of them when I discovered ‘grunge’ about 8-10 years after it exploded.

I must say that on the odd occasion that I do listen to them I like it.  It’s something completely different than my usual rock & metal music.

1996   UP

1997   PLAY

When these were released, I was still cautiously dipping my toe into heavier music.  I know I wasn’t into metal at the time.

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

Music throughout the weekend.

“Dead Sara”, “Queens of the Stone Age”, “Foo Fighters”, “Paramore”

Friday evening ended with us renting “I Feel Pretty” from iTunes.  Then I watched the Toronto Blue Jays game, they won, against the 2nd worse team in all of baseball, despite trying to lose the game.  How do they blow a 7-2 game and go into extra innings with the game tied at 7-7?  Trade deadline is July 31st.  I hope they ‘drain the swamp’!

We went for a drive for Kim to find some places to take photographs.  She forgot her tri-pod & we left too late.  Very late supper Saturday night, like 10:00 pm late.

Very lazy Sunday.  Just got back from a drive for Kim to take a few more photographs for her class aka she had homework to do.

LIVE

I own 8 albums, 7 on CD.  2 albums in total of the 8 albums I own do not show up on iTunes at all?  I’d like to focus on their masterpiece & 2nd album “Throwing Copper”

This is what I have for albums by “Live” in order of release beginning in 1991 with “Mental Jewelry”, 1994 “Throwing Copper”, 1997 “Secret Samadhi”, 1999 “The Distance to Here”, 2001 “V”, 2003 “Birds of Prey”, 2006 “Songs from Black Mountain”, & 2014 “The Turn”.  I only listen to the first 5 & the last album featuring a different singer.  Here’s the highlights for me from “Throwing Copper”….

The music industry is tanking so much that ‘In Flames’ have released a brand of Gin & now a truck!

Was it really so popular that we need a reboot?  I watched a few (4?) episodes as a teen but I was never a devoted fan.

https://www.rollingstone.com/tv/tv-news/buffy-the-vampire-slayer-tv-reboot-in-the-works-702313/

I might have to check out this album.  I never, ever thought ‘System of a Down’ were going to release another album & I don’t think they will.

http://loudwire.com/scars-on-broadways-dictator-has-shades-of-system-of-a-down/

‘Into Eternity’ new album to be released on August 3rd on www.Bandcamp.com for digital copy or I believe there is a link to order a physical copy?

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Aquaman trailer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sweet!!!!!  In theaters November 21st

I’m a fan of the many ‘Robin Hood’ movies.  ‘Prince of Thieves’, the Disney Cartoon, & ‘Men in Tights’.  The Russel Crowe movie didn’t do much for me.

I guess the song “Lateralus” by Tool just happened originally to match the Fibonacci sequence by chance.

I fell asleep to “Queens of the Stone Age” the album “Rated R: DELUXE EDITION” I bought the deluxe version yesterday.  This was followed by their album “…Like Clockwork”

I exercised to “Live” the album “The Distance to Here”

Weekly exercise total; 360 pushups, 1000 leg lifts, 500 crunches, 600 tricep pushups, 200 back flexes, 500 squats.

11 days off were nice but my goodness my abs are OUTRAGEOUSLY sore, especially when I do my pushups?  I’m going to have to build up to 240 pushups.  120 is my limit right now.  I figured I try this every 48 hours thing on the pushups first to see if it helps.  My legs & abs are what I need to focus on more.  Wish I could revert to 1,500 crunches a day but that aggravated my back quite a bit.

I think this every other day thing might work?  I think next week I’ll do squats, leg lifts, & crunches on Monday, Wednesday, & Friday.  On Tuesday & Thursday I’ll do my pushups, tricep pushups & back flexes?  I’ll see what happens?

Well I hear that March of next year the iTunes store & CDs will be weaned out as an option for purchasing music, we’ll see what happens.  I still have a working 160 gb classic iPod (iPod classic can’t be used with Apple Music).  After many minor meltdowns, I still don’t know what I’ll do?  I’ll see what happens if it comes to that point & cross that bridge when I get there.  I’ve spoken with quite a few of Apple support workers & they claim to know nothing about this.  I’ve also spoken to members of signed bands who have confirmed that the iTunes store & CDs will be obsolete in the near future.

I sincerely hope streaming music folk don’t lose their music if their streaming music site goes down!

MUSIC AT THE FOOTBALL FIELD

I am so happy I don’t see a breakdown of my season ticket for the Saskatchewan Roughriders.  I know they can’t make everyone happy all of the time, I wish they would stop trying to do so.

I’m not much of a country music fan, but everybody else seems to be.  Just play country music at the games.  That will likely please 90% of the people there.  The “rock” music they play is really not worth the effort.  Country music & rap pump up music seems to please most people at the games.  I’m not there for the music, just the football game.  The one highlight for me, musically, on Thursday, July 5th was a bit of “Metallica”

Most of the 1980s rock & hair metal is not for me, most people at the games seem to tolerate it until they finish the commercial break or play country music.  “In the end” I’m not there for the music, just the game.

My bucket list…

“Muse”, “Alter Bridge”, “Nothing but Thieves”, “Paramore”, “Dead Sara”, “Bruno Mars”, “Jack Johnson”, & “The Damned Things”.  There’s probably more but that’s just off of the top of my head.

There’s a dress code at Marilyn Manson concerts now?  I’ve never been a fan of his.  I guess you must have to “Praise” him at his concerts.  If I ever see him live, I’ll take a knee!

Muse live in theaters EVERYWHERE on Thursday, July 12th!  Unless you live in Saskatchewan.

I’m still judging “Live” from the “Throwing Copper” album.  This new song “Love Lounge” is quite good from the original 4 members!

I think “Steel Panther” missed a few memos?  A) No one needs an effect pedal called “P**** Melter” if you can do well without it & not use that word ever & especially with all of the other crap going on in the world.  B) The 1980s are over, you don’t need to dress up like you fit in with bands from the ‘80s!

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

Music throughout the weekend.  New “Into Eternity” song from their upcoming album.  “Pentatonix”, “Into Eternity”, “Dead Sara”, “Foo Fighters”, “Matthew Good Band”, & “Queens of the Stone Age

All of the iTunes & streaming music stuff is true.  Streaming & vinyl will be the only options to get music next year.  This will likely anger musicians depending on the contract they’ve signed with their label.  Just because I think it’s utterly terrible, doesn’t mean you have to!  I just want the option to own my music.  “Here it is, cheap music……………&……………. now you can’t have it!”-Apple.  Can’t beat them join them.  BOOOOOOOOOOOO!  I plan on buying some vinyl but I will stream most of my music.  I really hope this will be a fast fading fad.  I can’t afford a ton of vinyl, 4 or 5 bands I’ll continue to purchase on vinyl, maybe more, but it will depend on finances & other stuff.

Stayed in Friday & watched the Toronto Blue Jays surprisingly beat the N.Y. Yankees!  WOW!!!!  Come July 31st they will “drain the swamp” you may not recognize many players if you follow the Blue Jays.  I think their current Short-Stop, Aledmys Diaz has earned his spot, whenever $20,000,000 Short-Stop Troy Tulowitzki (who has not played any baseball since July 7th, 2017 due to injury) should have to earn his spot on the roster.  If I had the cash I’d give him the $40,000,000 for the next 2 years left on his contract to NOT play with the Blue Jays.  He’s SO not the player he was in 2015 when they got him.

Saturday it was HOT outside.  We went to Sherry & James’ to hang out in their backyard & throw back a few wobbly pops.  Kim & I just couldn’t find a movie we were in the mood to watch.  I still had some of the Netflix TV series “Daredevil” to watch & then we just watched some of “Friends” on Netflix.  Pretty tame Saturday night after leftovers of Spaghetti & meat sauce.

Today should be fairly relaxing.  I made my vegetable juice already, we’ve got hardboiled eggs done too.  Little bit of laundry, maybe bake some fish & watch the final game of a 3 game series of the Yankees in Toronto.

THE TEA PARTY

I’ll tell you right away, I am not an expert when it comes to this Canadian band.  I’m a casual fan though.  This is one of the numerous Canadian bands from the ‘90s that has reunited in the last few years.  I think I’ve seen them twice, probably at a touring festival in Saskatoon & once for sure with the “Matthew Good Band” at the ‘Conexus Arts Center’ way back in the ‘90s or early 2000s.  I only own 5 of their albums on CD.  I purchased them long before iTunes or streaming sites were all the rage.  Apple has classified them as ‘Metal’ in my iTunes.  I would have to disagree with that statement.  Very talented band with a large influence from eastern music.

When I saw them live, there was a lot of me thinking to myself “What’s that instrument?  Or that instrument?  Now they’re switching to that instrument?”  I didn’t know the names or sounds of the instruments, but they all came together to form a familiar song.  I should also mention that they’re a trio.  Bass, drums, & guitar by the lead singer.

1995 EDGES OF TWILIGHT

1997 TRANSMISSION

1999 TRIPTYCH

2000 TANGENTS (GREATEST HITS)

‘Rolling Stones’ cover

2001 INTERZONE MANTRAS

I fell asleep to “Metallica” the album “Hardwired…To Self-Destruct”

I exercised to “Queens of the Stone Age” the album “Villains”

As soon as they got into the meat & potatoes of this song at the show, I think everyone got up to dance.

I severely bruised my left hand Monday evening while lifting a heavy box of CD.  That was the only day I did pushups.  At the moment I can’t put any pressure on my left palm or any finger, other than my index finger & thumb.

I wasted 27 years being afraid of death.  6 days after my 28th birthday, I was in a month long coma.  Me dying, never crossed my mind.  I didn’t see Heaven or Hell when I was unconscious.  I was alone in the Conexus Arts Center (live theater in Regina).  I was in the empty seats & I was with Oprah of all people, does this mean Oprah is a God?  I never pictured Oprah being where ever I was??!!?!  I rarely saw Oprah on TV.  If someone else was watching it, I’d see while going to a different room.

The point of this is, the thought of dying used to scare the crap out of me.  Now, not at all.  I’m not out there looking for death in any way.  I’m not about to become a reckless dare devil.  I’ll just keep doing my thing until my time is up, hopefully that’s in the very distant future.

In no way do I want to die, but I’m not scared of it at all though.  I don’t know where I was?  I know I wasn’t scared though.  In a coma for a month, yet completely calm.  I believe in an afterlife, Heaven & I acknowledge that there may be a place called Hell.

Question is was I “Dead or Dreaming”, I like to think I was dreaming. The following is from “Into Eternity” the album “Dead or Dreaming”

BETTER THAN EZRA

I have their first two albums only.  From the ‘90s while I was in high school.  I saw the video for the song “Good” from their first album & was hooked immediately.  According to http://www.wikipedia.com they’re based in New Orleans, Louisiana.  I bought the first 2 albums on either BMG or Columbia House, buy 12 CDs for a penny then buy 1 for $30.  I jumped “back & forth” between the 2.  From what I can tell on iTunes they have 9 studio albums, a Greatest Hits album, & a live album.

Here are a few songs from Better than Ezra’s first 2 albums.

I fell asleep to “Matthew Good Band” the album “Beautiful Midnight”

Universal remote is on the fritz.  No music while exercising. But I’m listening to a TON of “Dead Sara” & “Devin Townsend Project”

Back to reality this week.  I don’t know about anyone else, but that felt like a very short weekend.  New vegetable smoothie/juice in the morning.  2 ½ cups of water, ½ cup orange juice, ½ container of grape tomatoes, LOADS of fresh spinach, 3 pieces of celery, 1 carrot, & 2 cooked beets.  Really tasty!  Next week I want to add a little ginger.  For breakfast I have that all blended in our Vitamix (1 pitcher a week), a hardboiled egg, a piece of fruit (usually an apple), & a rice cake.  My lunch is 1 week of fish & lemon juice or a week of deli meat turkey wraps with ½ a slice of cheese & a dab of hot sauce.  During the afternoon I have hummus with rice thins, fruit, or some yogurt.  Supper is usually something with quinoa & chicken.

This isn’t a diet!  I like the food I eat, I can maintain this food regiment.  We don’t keep bread, chocolate, chips, or any other type of junk food in the house.  Out of sight out of mind.

Yes I drink alcohol only on the weekend or some time off at home, the lake or visiting relatives out of province.  During the week I drink close to a gallon of water.  My “medication” gives me dry mouth, then I get up to pee once or twice a night.

If it’s a special occasion I’ll have some sugar, whatever is in the baking or ice cream, not much though.  Everything in moderation.

My doctor at the cancer clinic has me on over the counter stuff.  Baby Aspirin, vitamin E, & vitamin C.  I know have to eat breakfast before I exercise.  I take the vitamins 3 times a day, & the Aspirin in the morning with my morning pills.  Yes, I’m 38 years old & have an evening & morning pill case for the week.  YAY…..beats the alternative though!

I’ve been eating this way for roughly 4 years & exercising 5 days a week.  I like this & I feel better than ever.

GRETA VAN FLEET

4 guys out of Detroit.  Here are songs from their album, which is actually 2 EPs they put together & released on iTunes.  They plan to have an album out by the end of the summer.  Yes, the band that will always be instantly compared to Led Zeppelin.

I don’t know why so many people hate them for sounding like a carbon copy of Led Zeppelin.  When you hear the guys voice, BOOM Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin.  You hear the guitar BOOM Jimmy Page.  The drummer & bass player aren’t John Bonham & John Paul Jones.  If the singer’s voice sounds like Robert Plant, wouldn’t you try to create music like Led Zeppelin?

If your singer sounds like another famous singer, go with it & let the kids have fun & make some cash.  If a band is new to the music scene wouldn’t you be inspired or influenced by another, wouldn’t you go with it?  The Beatles, Elvis, The Rolling Stones, Queen, Led Zeppelin, Michael Jackson, U2, etc.  Proven artists that can make a living doing what they like.

I figure there are 2 ways to take this as a Led Zeppelin fan “WHOA, they’re totally ripping off Led Zeppelin!” Or, “Hey, this sounds like Led Zeppelin is creating new music, AWESOME!”

Personally, I have nothing against them & I like their music.  I’ll ride this train as far as it will go.

Songs from their album “From the Fires”

This guy’s complaining about their clothing?  Lay off it, it doesn’t affect the music, might as well look for more imperfections to concern yourself with.

LANGUAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now I want to be a guitar player for ‘Queens of the Stone Age’ then I’ll get a fancy house.

http://loudwire.com/queens-of-the-stone-age-troy-van-leeuwen-purchases-1-85-million-camarillo-estate/

My ranking of their albums worst to first is….

“Era Vulgaris”, “Queens of the Stone Age”, “Rated R”, “Lullabies to Paralyze”, “…Like Clockwork”, “Songs for the Deaf”, & “Villains”

After “Era Vulgaris” it gets quite tricky since the rest are all pretty great.

Disturbed is a band I grew out of & can’t say I miss them aka I’m not in my early 20s anymore.  I own “The Sickness” & “Believe” on CD, then I stopped.

Hahahaha!  Metallica covered by Tremonti playing Hello Kitty guitars!

Some I like, others I won’t touch.  I don’t consider myself a full blown metal head though.

http://loudwire.com/13-non-metal-artists-that-metalheads-love/

‘Queen’, ‘Bowie’, ‘Prince’, ‘Bob Marley’ (in small doses), ‘Beastie Boys’, ‘Pink Floyd’, some ‘Depeche Mode’, & yes ‘Classical Music’

Saw ‘Deadpool 2’ last night.  Much like the first one, there’s a lot of….

LANGUAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It’s a good one, much like the first one that way.  I watched the first “Deadpool” over 3 days last week.  I’ll buy this when it’s out on blu-ray!  I laughed too much & I know I missed a few jokes due to laughing at the previous one, also like the first one, which I’ve easily watched 20-25 times now.

Facebook is bringing a streaming music.  Because you don’t have enough options for that yet.  I think they’re a little late to the party?

https://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/facebook-is-finally-putting-music-back-into-social-networking-w521125

The N.Y. Yankees played in Toronto this evening.  Toronto lost again.  I checked the score when I got home.  It’s not pretty, after a 7-2 loss they’re now 26W-34L.

Come the trade deadline on July 31st, they’ll be shopping for prospects while dumping older players who have contracts that expire at the end of the year!  Right now for the 2nd season in a row, they have the oldest average age of players in all of the MLB!

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

Quiet Mother’s Day.  Over to my parents’ house for BBQ chicken & ribs, avocado salad & potato salad.  Followed by 2 tasty cakes.  Yes, I tried both cakes to make sure they were up to standard for everyone else……You’re welcome, I aim to please!

Lots of people there for supper.  Mom, dad, Kent, Leanne, my cousins Megan Gagnon, Danielle Gagnon, Grandma, Grandpa, aunt Leanne’s parents, Clint & Dorothy White, Mitch, Rachel was at a wedding shower, Kim & I.  I feel as though I’m missing someone?  Sorry, lots of people & 2 dogs, Mac & Goose, Brewster stayed with Sherry & James.

Yes, I have converted my dad into a “Big Wreck”, “Foo Fighters”, & “Royal Blood” fan & now a “Queens of the Stone Age” fan.  I saw “Royal Blood” open for “Foo Fighters” with my father in 2015.  I’ve never seen “Queens of the Stone Age” before this though.  A very quick trip to Calgary to see the show.  Drive on Wednesday, get there in time for supper.  Concert was on Thursday night.  Drove back to Regina on Friday & got here at about 6:00 pm.  A big thank you to my Aunt & Uncle Kent & Leanne Fraser for letting dad & I stay at their house!  Kent is my dad’s younger brother

When we saw Foo Fighters in 2015 my uncle said to me, “So you’ll only come to Calgary if Foo Fighters are in town?”  I should have said this time “Nope, we’ll come for Queens of the Stone Age too!”  In actuality Kim & I might go there for a bit of vacation time during the summer in the next few years.

This is just to show that a guy in a wheelchair can get out & still live a relatively ‘normal’ life with the help of family & friends!  My legs work a bit, so I’ll need help if I’m somewhere new.  By the 2nd day I figured out how to stand at the washroom counter on the main floor & the second floor to brush my teeth & wash my face.  Dad had to help me get to the toilet, not really a big deal?

The concert was FANTASTIC!  Royal Blood now has 2 ten song albums out & Queens of the Stone Age have 7 albums out.  The most recent album was produced by Mark Ronson who released 1 album with guest vocalist including “Uptown Funk” with “Bruno Mars”, I was curious at first just to hear what would come out of the 2 working together and the album was really good, live was even better.  Royal Blood opened…

Queens of the Stone Age were the headliner.  I’m not sure how long Royal Blood played for but they started right at 8:00 pm, which was nice, & Queens of the Stone Age finished right at 11:00 pm.  Short show, but well worth the trip….

I remember more songs they played but that’s quite a few already!  Nice needed break!

Yes, I consider myself a Metallica fan now, a friend of mine is a HUGE fan & lent me the CDs.  I have the studio albums & the live album with the symphony.  I had a few on CD as well.  I totally agree with the musicians having a strong dislike for Napster & now all of these streaming sites.  I personally hate them.  I use iTunes, if I had the physical space I’d start a vinyl collection!  Unless you’re buying a TON of merchandise, alcohol, clothing, or a fragrance released by your favourite artists, that’s the only way they’re able to continue doing what they’re do!  They’re not making money from album sales anymore!  Swedish metal groups Opeth & In Flames have their own brand of beer from Opeth & Gin from In Flames.

I used Napster, I downloaded Torrent files for free also.  While I was sick, we’d go to a music store & I’d pick out CDs, 2 a month when I was able to go home for a few hours at night.  I’d ask Kim to purchase the 2 CDs.  “Do you have this already?” she’d ask.  I usually said “Yes, the Torrent file”.  I carried on this way until CDs dropped in price.  Then I started to use iTunes.  I figured, “I was working for a paycheck, why not musicians?”  You’re entitled to get your music however you like.  Maybe it’s different than what I choose to do?  That’s fine with me, I use iTunes & Kim uses Apple Music.  Whatever floats your boat, I use Apple Music to preview an album before I buy it on iTunes.

“Trivium” needs to come back to Saskatoon, as well as “In Flames”.  Not only to play a show there but my “Trivium” & “In Flames” shirts both have a hole in the right armpit.  Now designated as exercise shirts.

Trailer for the movie “Bohemian Rhapsody” AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!  I heard it was in the works & that Sacha Baron Cohen “Borat” was fired when they got into the production, finally it’s here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mark Tremonti likes “The Cars”?  AWESOME!

I agree.  The Blue Jays are paying $20,000,000 a year for injured short stop, Troy Tulowitzki.  He was good for 2.5 months at the end of 2015 and currently hasn’t played since July of 2017.  His fielding is great, his hitting is more than questionable.  At least it’s not my money!  There’s about 6 rookie short stops waiting in the minor leagues, Tulowitzki has created a road block for.  The Blue Jays got him in the last week of July 2015.  He was good right up to mid-October, & hasn’t been the same since.

The more you share this, the more readers I get.  No, I’m not profiting from this in any way.
