To be clear about this, I don’t have a home studio.  I have no camera, cell phone, or audio recording device.  If I come up with a good sounding guitar line, I play it many times to remember it.  “The Beatles” only recorded stuff if they could remember it the next day, so I kind of operate the same way…I just don’t sound like The Beatles.  Any photos or videos on here or Facebook are courtesy of Kim & her cell phone.

I was missing a sleeping pill last night.  I take 2 different pills, one to make me fall asleep faster than my typical 3 or 4 hours of tossing & turning in bed.  The other keeps me asleep.  We missed getting a refill yesterday on the pill that keeps me asleep.  I woke up close to 3:00 am & finally decided to give up on trying to fall asleep at 5:00 am & got up to do my exercises.

My guitar came in Tuesday afternoon.  First impressions, DAMN it’s pretty!  I’ve honestly never played a guitar right out of the box that needs no adjustment.  I tuned it and it was ready to go.  Even just the tuning buttons were INCREDIBLY smooth.  I had HIGH expectations for it, & the S2 PRS greatly exceeded them!

Luckily I missed recording the baseball game Tuesday evening.  I caught the last 2 innings since I was busy playing my new guitar.  After my exercises are done & I’ve showered, I play it all of the time.

I was just about to play guitar after my shower on Tuesday & figured I should check my email.  I had an email confirming my guitar was in & ready for me to pick up.  My brother picked me up & we went to the store.  I tuned it & I’ve been playing it as much as possible since.  Playing it (unplugged) even while watching Blue Jays baseball in the evening.  I hate having to stop playing it!  I wish you could see it in person, the photo just doesn’t compare.

I’ve played 3 guitars in my life that made me think “Why aren’t all guitars made this way?”  My friend’s hollow body Gretsch guitar in the summer, my Epiphone 7 string that Kim got me for my 40th birthday at the end of January, & my new PRS S2.  The hype is real!!!!!

…and now I’d like to introduce you to “Sunny”!  PRS S2 Semi-hollow Custom.

Having this PRS S2 Custom 22 only solidifies my desire for the S2 McCarty 594.  Last guitar purchase, followed by that amplifier & footswitch.

If you care to watch.  These are the different bridges they use on guitars at PRS, as shown by Paul Reed Smith.  Sunny has a tremolo bridge, and the one I plan to order has a 2 piece stop tail bridge.

If we find a house next year, the amplifier & footswitch are put on hold.  Well come June 1st of 2021 EVERYTHING stops for the hope of finding a house!  The amplifier & footswitch will have to wait.

If I ever got my hands on a Core Tremonti PRS with a HUGE (90% off) discount, that would be hard to pass up.  This S2 PRS is beautiful.  I’m over the moon with everything on this guitar!  Here’s that SUPER nice Mark Tremonti Core PRS, not in the typical black.

A Core PRS goes for $3,800 US, which is $6,574 + tax in Canada.  I used to say $5000 was my limit for a guitar, not anymore.  It’s far less than that or even the USA price for Core model, I just paid my limit for a guitar.  The final order is less expensive than what I have, it’s still very close to my limit.

“Sunny” is a lower priced S2 PRS guitar.  The quality is unmatched to any guitar I’ve ever played.  The downside & the upside of it is that we paid a lot for it & it REALLY impresses me.  So it’s VERY nice but it does have a large price tag.  One more S2 and I’m literally spent!

I do watch some TV other than baseball.  The Ellen Degeneres Show, A Late Show with Stephen Colbert, & about 3 other scripted shows that aren’t on TV right now.  Prodigal Son, The Resident, & Mom.  No matter what show I’m watching, there’s a guitar in my hands!

Why is Donald Trump EVERYWHERE?  If Biden wins the election, things could get messy when he moves into the White House.

This week I’ve been playing stuff I know the basic chord progression of while making it more distinct playing lead stuff instead on the new guitar “Sunny”.

I’ve been listening to a 20th anniversary reissue of the first self-titled Into Eternity album that I got on CD.  “Into Eternity” describe themselves as extreme progressive metal.  I think of them as death metal meets the harmonies of “Queen”, that’s HIGH-PRAISE in my books.  Good luck finding a CD other than through the Regina based band that until recently only had the files for the album.  Into Eternity are the Regina heroes that are still underground despite having toured or played with big name acts such as “Motorhead”, “Megadeth”, “Lamb of God”, “Opeth” & I believe “Dream Theater”.  I thik it was last year or 2018 they released their 6th studio album.  The last 5 albums should be available everywhere.  I bought 3 of them at HMV when it was open & managed to get the 6th album on amazon where you can find all of their albums now!

There won’t be any stairs during this virus stuff.  I don’t really want to touch a public railing or clean them before & after I’m done.

10:32 minutes of planking over 5 planks.  My longest plank (3:05 minutes) from Wednesday and 2:30 minutes today (when it loads) are on the Facebook page.  No, I won’t be posting a plank every day.  I will do a plank 5 days a week & post the time here.

I fell asleep to “Trivium” the album “What the Dead Men Say”

I exercised to “Big Wreck” the album “…but for the sun”

Welcome back to the program!  You’re here so if you like what you see, might as well subscribe?  Either on Facebook or with your email in the bottom right corner, it’s really that easy & it’s free!  I know you want to tell your friends, go ahead!

Saskatchewan is set for a slow re-opening on Monday.  It’s currently Wednesday & our province just had it’s 6th death in total and 17 new confirmed cases today.  Before Monday, April 27th, we had 4 deaths in total.  Do you really need a haircut so bad that its worth risking your health/life?  Priorities people, your hair isn’t going anywhere.

Thank you to EVERYONE who has been at work during this time.  Don’t ever think that the rest of us don’t greatly appreciate what you’re doing. To those who are returning or have returned to work.  Please stay safe & remember that the 6 foot rule still applies, a mask is not a bad idea either!

As I’ve stated before, my upper body is doing well ,my lower body…wheelchair.  I’m going to tell you something you may or may not already know?  There is no secret to anything that I know of!  I’ve watched countless videos full of “secrets” on how to get results by doing this trick while doing this exercise or do this to improve your guitar playing in minutes.

It’s all non sense.  If you want to acomplish anything it’s gonna take hard work, focus, & dedication.  Pretty much everything was easy for me before cancer.  If I wasn’t good enough at something I gave up, now everything is as it should be.  I want to “walk”, well I have to work at that.  I want to play guitar, I’ve got to work on that, etc.  Anything I want to do now involves a lot of trial & error, if I fail I have to try something different to succeed.

All of us are stuck at home right now.  I’ve been stuck at home since December 18th, 2013.  I’ll admit that it took me a bit to get my butt in gear, but where I am now is a long way from where I was.  We’re all at home now, this is YOUR time, what do YOU want to do with it?  What’s that nagging thing in the back of your mind that you keep putting off but know it has to start somewhere?  Do it.

Kim called me a “good self-motivator” and I’m still shocked by that.  Nobody has ever called me that before!  Well what else am I supposed to do with all of this time?  Sit around all day & complain about my cancer to her when she gets home?  I don’t necessarily enjoy forcing myself to exercise 5 days a week.  I’d like to be at least where I was before cancer.  That’s going to take a LOT of work on my part.  That’s the only way I know how to achieve these goals.  That planking I put on Facebook, that’s a fraction of my exercise 5 days a week & even that little bit has it’s complications that you don’t see.

When I woke up from a 4 or 5 week coma after 3 brain surgeries, 8 of my toes were seriously curled, still are.  My 3 smallest toes on each foot are called “hammer” toes, they bend down more.  My 2nd toe on each foot is a “claw” toe.  It’s nearly curled underneath my foot.  Only surjery can fix this, & no I can’t bend them backwards.  That’s why you’ll see me adjusting so much during a plank.  They don’t bother me at any other time than when I’m planking or doing push-ups.  When I’m walking, they’re fine.  The following link has diagrams to explain it.

As I’ve mentioned, I don’t watch much TV, WAY less than than last year.  Pretty much news, 2 talk shows, & a handful of other stuff, since there isn’t any MLB or CFL to watch. I watch local & national Canadian news I try not to watch much CNN, I’m not American.  I always watch “The Ellen Degeneres Show” & “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert”, I’d watch more late night shows if I could.  “Prodigal Son”which finished it’s season is my replacement for the departed “Criminal Minds”.  There are a few others that I squeeze in.  I’m usually doing something else like practicing guitar when I’m not eating, exercising, showering, peeing, shaving, etc.

I changed the strings on my 7 string, tuned it & played it.  I went to cut the floppy excess off of the strings & accidentaly cut a string.  Before this Kim is telling me “Don’t cut the strings too short until it’s done!” last time I listen to her about new guitar strings.  I know have two 3 string guitars tuned to B, E, A, no D, G, b, e.  I guess I can play some low chords, high chords, or just wait for my Amazon order to replace the D string?

Great salesman who can back up his talk with science & logic, that’s why I’ve got a PRS S2 ordered & plan to buy a PRS SE to finish off with!

I’m OK with this until he starts to shout/scream/growl.  Other than that I’d be all in.

Yes, metal/rock fans are picky too.

2 days of yoga

Woke up at 3:30 am Thursday morning, ate fast food for a late supper at 8:00 pm last night.  Rolled around in bed feeling terrible until 2:00 am last night wide awake then commenced to throw up until 5:30 am or so.  Drinking water (dehydrated), still aching, & a little warm.  Sorry this is late I just woke up.  This was mostly written Thursday morning.

I worked out to “Foo Fighters” a few times this week!  Oh my does that get my heart pumping!

I guess listening to my favourite band while exercising helps get me moving?!  If only it added muscle to my tooth pick sized legs, at least I see a little improvement there.  Arms, chest, & shoulders are much easier to see & feel the improvement in.  I guess I am “Something from Nothing”

This story has stuck with me since they’re first appearance on the show.  #AXEALS

I had stage 4 brain cancer, I beat it & now get the opportunity to beat the lasting effects of it.  You don’t get that opportunity when diagnosed with A.L.S.  The fact that there’s a medication out there that can slow the effects of the disease & it’s not available is ridiculous!  Let’s make it available!

I woke up at 3:20 am Thursday morning.  My brain won’t stop, you’d think I’d be smarter!?  Got up, had breakfast, wrote some of this & then went to exercise in silence, too early for the stereo!  My post for Tuesday is ½ done, I had breakfast, exercised, & its 6:49 am.

Get all of my stuff done, feed Brewster.  Kim gets up to shower & go to work and our walk in shower that I have to use is broken.  The diverter broke off this morning.  No shower for me until later.  Instead I watched the 2 hour series finale of “Criminal Minds”.  Thank goodness “Prodigal Son” is here to fill the void of a creepy serial killer show!

Saturday is the first Spring Training game for the Toronto Blue Jays!  You know what I’ll be doing Saturday afternoon!

I was going to post some videos of myself playing a song on each guitar.  I didn’t since my left arm is day to day as far as control goes.  It’s coming along but slower than I anticipated.  I do practice a LOT though.

“Lamb of God” has a single out, “Trivium” has something coming out soon, & “Foo Fighters” are done recording their new album & have announced, what I hope is only a portion of a tour.  If only the “Megadeth”, “Lamb of God”, “Trivium”, & “In Flames” tour would come near Saskatchewan?

I fell asleep to “Foo Fighters” the album “Sonic Highways”

I exercised to “Jimmy Eat World” the album “Surviving”

Here’s the Canadian Red Cross website if you’d prefer to donate there for my birthday.  Donate whatever amount you like whenever you like please?

There are photos of myself & each guitar I own in the Facebook links on here.  You should know that I despise photos & videos of myself.  Also any audio of myself.  I’ve sang on a few recordings, I’ve listened to them a handful of times, all I do is find/notice mistakes either on guitar or vocals of myself.  I very seldom listen/look at to any type recordings of myself.

Kim called me on the way home from work Friday to get ready to go out to see “Little Women”.  I’m not much of a fan of period pieces, but there was nothing bad about it, I’ve never read the book.  I had to ask her this on the way though…

She didn’t remember that moment.  I guess when we were dating she just used me for my “Friends” DVDs.  Not sure why she keeps me around now?  Do you think she like…..LIKES me?

I’ll play the heck out of the new 6 string, then continue saving for a trip to where ever Kim wants to go.  Then I’ll save for the Limited Edition Epiphone Les Paul signature Matt Heafy 7 string guitar.  Less than half the price of the guitar recently ordered but it will take longer to save for…….and it’s off of the new 2020 Epiphone guitar website.  I guess all that remains are the guitars in stock at stores.  I feel sick!  There are other 7 string guitars but this was the only one I really liked.  Our “guitar savings” are spent.  Instant gut wrenching heartbreak…….as of Monday morning I find out that Long & McQuade have 9 in stock (at other stores in Canada) and can still get them in from the supplier.  I can’t afford that now, I was thinking a few years down the road.  I think a vacation with Kim & hopefully a house should happen before my final guitar purchase is made, if the funds are available?  I’m doubtful this will still be available at that time.

All 6 strings for me, but HOT DAMN that sexy PRS!  April seems so far away!  I feel like a kid in November waiting for Christmas!

I watch WAY too many guitar demos of my ordered guitar & this Epiphone model!

You’ll notice there is no Matt Heafy signature 7 string Les Paul guitar listed in the link below.  The hundreds of others don’t compare for me.  It’s about getting this particular model, not just any 7 string.

The PRS is my last regular guitar, if the 7 string is available 5 years down the road that will complete my guitar purchasing.  If it’s not available I’m done now.  I’m pretty sure I’m done now. Before I was sick I figured one guitar every 4 or 5 years.  Now on one income, I’m done.  Expensive hobby.

I bought an S2 semi-hollow.  They’re really not that affordable unless you started the company!  Mine is an S2 custom 22 semi-hollow.  Same line, different model.  5th highest model out of 6.  Even the cheapest model is more than $1000 retail if it’s a true PRS made in Maryland.  There are other PRS style guitars that are cheaper made overseas.

Kim’s at work all day and doesn’t see my exercise other than walking & stairs where she has to make sure I don’t crack my noggin’ open.  I’m rather inept when it comes to any type of technology so you’ll have to open the Facebook link & scroll down for photos of me & my guitars on Facebook.  The photos were taken on Saturday, January 18, 2020.  I hope this works, my apologies in advance if it doesn’t.  The photos will only on the Facebook link, sorry.

A photo of my ugly mug a few weeks shy of turning 40.  12 years after stage 4 brain cancer.  I collapsed at work on Tuesday, February 5th, 2008.  Yes, I’m wearing shorts indoors & it’s a blizzard outside.  I went to a movie in shorts Friday night while wearing shorts, a hoodie, toque, and gloves.  I went from the vehicle to the movie theater.  Yeah, it’s cold out.

This is me holding my first guitar I received on my 21st birthday from my family.  My (Green) Les Paul made by Tradition guitars that no longer exist.  The guitar is exactly the same as when I received.  This was my main guitar for every live show I ever played.  This guitar seems to push more bass tone, yet the pickups produce a lot of high pitched feedback if you’re not conscious about it.

This is my (black) Epiphone Explorer.  My girlfriend (now wife) bought it for me as a Christmas gift in 2002, we started dating in April of that year.  I had the pickups changed to EMG pickups for $200 after one show with it.  There’s an active EMG 60 in the neck pickup & an EMG 81 in the bridge pickup.  EMG pickups push more of the higher & mid-range tones which can also cause feedback.  Dave Grohl played a black Gibson Explorer early on in his career with “Foo Fighters”.  My reason for the cursive “F” logo of the band which I added as well as the Canadian flag.  Epiphone is the cheaper version of guitars also made by Gibson.  Same design, cheaper materials.  This has become my main guitar when playing electric guitar.  I play rock music for the most part while dipping my toe deeper into metal music.

This is the (Brown) Fender Telecaster I received as a gift from a very good friend of mine while going through physiotherapy in 2009.  This is the guitar signed by Ian Thornley, the singer-songwriter from the Canadian rock band “Big Wreck”.  This guitar has 2 single-coil pickups instead of humbucker pickups.  It’s also semi-hollow.  The sound is more geared towards a twangy country music sound or a blues sound on the neck pickup.  I rarely play this guitar, mostly because of the sound, country & blues aren’t suited to my taste in music also the neck of the guitar just doesn’t feel comfortable in my hand?  It is a very nice looking guitar, at least I think so!  I’ve always liked the shape of a Telecaster!

My acoustic-electric hybrid guitar made by Takamine.  This guitar is the only guitar I have purchased for myself.  I think the electronics inside the guitar fell during the photo?  All of my guitars are either hung on the wall or in a stand on the floor.  They’re more accessible so I can grab one at any time.  My acoustic is typically found in the living room.  The electric guitars are in our office by my guitar amplifier.

The acoustic guitar on the wall is the one I bought for Kim, the same Christmas she bought me the Epiphone Explorer.  She wanted a blue acoustic guitar.  It’s a blue Washburn acoustic with Grover tuners.  The only blue acoustic I could find in 2002.  She never learned to play it.  I used it to teach a few friends & I’m using it now for the same reason.  No charge, not a wealth of knowledge in my head, just the basics!

My amplifier volume is set to 1 ½ out of 10.  I don’t turn it up in case it bothers our neighbors.  My current amplifier contains one 10” speaker but is VERY loud.  My previous amplifier, before I was sick was 100 Watts with a cabinet of four 12” speakers to put things into perspective.  We lived in a bungalow with my gear in the basement.  I don’t miss carrying my amp & speaker cabinet to the basement at 2:00 am.

All of these guitars are out of production.  I guess they’re not cool enough for others, I like them though!

I hope my ordered guitar isn’t delayed significantly.  PRS were already sold out of the more expensive models, mine wasn’t one of them, before the trade show (NAMM 2020 Jan. 16-19) this past weekend in California.

My other hobby was playing Baseball, which I’m too old to play despite my iPatch & wheelchair.  I watch CFL football & the Toronto Blue Jays faithfully.  CFL starts in the summer.  Blue Jays spring training starts in mid-February.

I find that there is just too much TV these days.  When the fall premiers started I stopped recording quite a few.  Now with the New Year premiers I cancelled the recording of a few more & even bowed out of watching “This Is Us” last week.  There are about 10 shows that I never miss but EVERYTHING is an hour long lately?!  Add streaming to that, I don’t have that kind of time!  Sure I’m at home all day but I have stuff to do & a lot of the shows I watch with Kim when she gets home around 6:00 pm from work.  When I watch 3 hours of baseball every day in the fall, time management gets tricky, especially this upcoming year since the Blue Jays might be decent!  I always find time, as soon as Kim’s home, & we watch “The Ellen Degeneres Show”, “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert”, “Prodigal Son”, & “Criminal Minds”.

Guitarist “Mark Morton” from ‘Lamb of God’ has released a 5 song EP.  Not sure if they’re all cover songs but I instantly recognized 2 1990s rock songs.  One by ‘Pearl Jam’ & one by ‘The Black Crowes’ this is a tame/relaxing EP, not metal at all.  He plays guitar with a different guest vocalist on each song.

If you’re getting this through Facebook, give it a like or other reaction, or share it.  That’s the only way of promoting this site, since I’m not profiting from this in any way.
