I fell asleep to “Trivium” the album “What the Dead Men Say”

I exercised to “Foo Fighters” a collection of roughly 100 B-Sides & Rarities.

Welcome back to the program!  You’re here so if you like what you see, might as well subscribe?  Either on Facebook or with your email in the bottom right corner, it’s really that easy & it’s free!  I know you want to tell your friends, go ahead!

…and why are metal & rock fans considered to be terrible people?  I’m in a wheelchair & typically wearing a “Lamb of God” hoodie or a metal T-Shirt.  Before my cancer I was stopped countless times for a brief conversation, & even since the same has happened as well as any aid is always offered.  Even in the summer of 1999 I broke my nose at an outdoor rock music festival, a path cleared since my face was gushing blood & I was immediately directed to the First Aid tent.  Nobody was fighting, I voluntarily went into the mosh pit.

Another myth to dispel!  When I started playing shows live & being a front man of a bar rock band yes, I’d take a beer or 2 on stage with me.  I was never intoxicated though.  After a while I switched to taking 4 small water bottles on stage with me & I often was chewing gum.  The day of a live show or doing a recording was a day of no milk, juice, or alcohol until after a show probably around 1:30 am or later.  No I don’t any drugs or smoke anything either.  Just because of the music I played has nothing to do with how I live my life.  I’m not speaking for everyone, but it’s really not that common in Regina.

If I had no obligations that evening & the next day, I drank heavily.  Kim’s brother-in-law & I would often split an 18 pack of beer in an evening & do it again the next night.  This was before I got cancer.

In that way cancer was a serious “wake up call”.  There’s rarely any alcohol in our fridge, a few craft beer once in a while. Our liquor cabinet has 3 bottles of rum, we’re out of gin at the moment & the little amount of stuff Kim has a drink of in the summer.  Only one of the bottles of rum is mine.  One is uber expensive rum my dad keeps here & the other is my sister-in-law’s rum of choice.

Kim lives on coffee & tea, while I hoover water all day & perhaps a can of Bubbly carbonated water later on.  Little alcohol on the weekend sometimes.  Even during this quarantine I don’t drink alcohol until Friday evening & Saturday evening.  I don’t want to & I don’t have the time.  If I have any free time, I’m probably practicing guitar…sober, ALWAYS!

My extended family pokes fun at me if I’m holding an alcoholic beverage & they can’t understand me “Chris, you’ve lost your peech!”  Truth be told, I didn’t have much of it to begin with, HAHAHAHA!  They have enough trouble understanding me sober.  I wonder why I only drink more when they’re around???????  HAHA!

I guess I should make a correction regarding previous exercise weekly totals.  The last 3 or 4 weeks I was adding wrong regarding the number of curls I do in 2 days, it’s actually 175/day, so 350 a week.

Watching the local news, our province of Saskatchewan, Canada will be gradually opening on Monday, May 4th.  The first of 5 reopening phases.  After the second phase happens on May 18th, it’ll be a wait & see what happens next scenario.  Let’s hope for the best or we’re right back where we started.

I’m all for everyone staying in quarantine until June or even mid-July.  All you’ve been hearing EVERYWHERE is “flatten the curve”, OK so why are we going to start a gradual reopening?  The curve should be flatter for a weaker 2nd wave.  I’m inside pretty much all of the time anyway & not many people like to visit a condo.  I say better safe than sorry, what do I know though, I’m not a politician or health official.  Just because the amount of new cases has leveled off for a few days isn’t really something we want.  Don’t we want them to significantly decrease?  Saskatchewan & other provinces begin to slowly open on May 4th, WHY?  “Is everybody going crazy?”

https://regina.ctvnews.ca/5th-covid-19-related-death-in-sask-majority-of-12-new-cases-in-far-north-1.4913232

As with every TV show I recorded “The Grammy Salute to Prince”.  I was watch ing it on the weekend & realized that I don’t listen to Prince enough, & after watching the special I had forgotten how much of his stuff I love hearing.  Of course Foo Fighters performed their cover of “Darling Nikki” from the “Purple Rain” album.

NOT FOR KIDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It likely wasn’t the first cassette I bought in the early 1990s, but Price’s “Diamonds & Pearls” got a TON of air time on my cassette player.

I’m not a fan of NFL football but I watched the Super Bowl halftime show in 2007 just to see Prince & he covered Foo Fighters!

Ordered in January but who knows if I’ll get it this year?  I’m anxious yet I completely understand.

I’ve given What the Dead Men Say by Trivium multiple listens, I think it’s AWESOME!  I’ll grab my iPod and it’s all I listen to mostly!

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

Music throughout the weekend “TOOL”, “I Built the Sky”, “Sevendust”, & “Chromeo”

To clarify Friday’s post; Things in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada are taxed heavily!  7% Government Sales Tax aka GST & 7% Provincial Sales Tax.  The majority of stuff we purchase in Saskatchewan is 14% higher than America & our dollar fluctuates $0.75-$0.85 on America’s dollar.  Canadians pay a higher price on most things other than health care.  Example;  My father bought a 66oz. of Bacardi White Rum while renting a house in Arizona for a month, he left it there because almost full because it was cheap.  If it was here I could see that at least $80 or more.  Messed up since we didn’t get to vote in the USA federal election, nor did anyone else other than Russians.

Friday we watched the last however many episodes of “Atypical” season 3 on Netflix.  Kim’s parents came to town about mid-day on Saturday.  We all had supper here Saturday evening, James fixed a few issues I was having with my computer.  Too early for me for Christmas movies, but there was one playing Saturday night.  I missed it while getting things arranged on my computer.

Sunday morning Kim & Sherry hung out with their mom & went shopping.  Me & my Homeslice (Brewster) had breakfast, hung out & I finally had a bit of time to watch part of “The Cure” blu-ray, who I just got into believe it or not.  Kim got home around 2 pm.  I needed a refill on some medication & Brewster needed another appointment at the vet at 4 pm, he had an ear infection.  We picked up my refill at a pharmacy near a Dairy Queen.

There was a guy asking if we could get him something to eat, so of course we did.  He told Kim he didn’t want money, just something to eat.  We grabbed him some food & it was freezing outside.  I asked Kim if we could ask for a hot drink for him, but we were already through the drive-through.  Kim gave him her mitts & I offered my toque, he said he had a toque & declined.  I felt bad for him, he looked like he was still in his early 20s.

After that it was off to the vet.  Not good news.  Brewster’s ear infection was/is deep down by his ear drum.  He needed to stay there for a few hours since he needed to be sedated.  “Should we resuscitate him if he has heart failure due to his murmur?”  I can’t believe that was a question?  OF COURSE!

I was waiting in the car, since we didn’t think it would be anything major.  Kim came out to tell/ask me what to do.  Whatever it takes to make him feel better was the answer on both of our minds.  I thought nothing of it until after supper.  Kim was quiet & my mind was racing thinking the worst, “Was that the last time I’d hold him?  Is he going to go down because of an ear infection?”  I worried myself sick.  I was so relieved when we got the call to pick him up.  He typically NEVER barks, Kin said he was barking his head off when she went in to get him.

He’s home and he’s fine.  He had a lot of water & was growling at me before we got home for his food.  He’s pretty intimidating, all 12 ½ pounds of him.  I think he’s almost done his bronchitis medication (Kim gives it to him) & he’s doing much better.  Kim says to me “He’s already cost us as more than a guitar you wanted!”  Better to have some cash for a rainy day than a guitar, always better to keep Brewster healthy & happy.  Easy call on that one!  We both said if he needs $5000 of health stuff, we wouldn’t blink, that’s as true now as it was in 2006 when we got him as a pup.

Kim & Brewster went to bed while stayed up to do more stuff on my computer & watch some recorded TV from the afternoon.

3:30 am & up to feed Brewster at 9:30 am, I should go to bed earlier!  Brewster’s tired today too.  He was up & down all night drinking multiple bowls of water & of course peeing.  Kim went to have coffee with her parents, then off to get groceries afterwards.  I got up & didn’t really stop until noon.  Kim got home with groceries, I made my vegetable juice & finally hit the shower.

EXERCISE TOTAL & A BIT OF REBUTTAL

A 4 day week for me.  150 triceps pushups (I was messing with the numbers this week), 400 crunches, 400 leg lifts, 400 pushups, & 160 back flexes.  Starting Monday, December 4th I’m going to take it down a bit until January 2nd.  Triceps, leg lifts, & pushups.  Crunches & back flexes will come back into the fold on January 2nd.

If you’re reading this but haven’t subscribed, I would do so now. From here until mid-February there could be really random postings aka it might not be Sunday, Wednesday, & Friday as scheduled.

Whoever is reading, please pass it on?  Show your friends that stage 4 brain cancer isn’t always a death sentence.  Please feel free to share every single post.  My hope is to inspire others & show them that it is possible to survive.

I fell asleep to “Neil Young” a greatest hits album, followed by “Prince” the album “1999”

When I was released from therapy, I felt a sense of entitlement, “Yay I beat cancer.  Look at me!!!!”  I didn’t realize it then, but I already got the greatest thing ever, a second chance at life & make it better.  Instead I acted terribly, even before I was released & all of my therapy session were done.  Luckily everyone stuck around despite my behavior, since they know that’s nowhere close to what I was like before cancer.  THANK YOU!!!!

In one of the more recent postings I said something like “Hope for the best.  Prepare for the worst.”  You can only do that in certain circumstances.  You can’t spend your entire life looking over your shoulder looking for something bad to happen.  Unless you know something bad is coming just enjoy what you have & look forward to whatever good the future has for you!

Friday August 25th we went to my parents’ house.  Mom’s birthday, we ordered Chinese food & watched the Roughriders vs. the Eskimos in Edmonton on dad’s 92” HD projector in the basement.  Yes, I fell in the kitchen getting out of my wheelchair.  Not the first time & likely not the last time that I’ll fall.  I’m fine, no big deal, so far, it happens.

Saturday August 26, Kim had a work BBQ to attend, I stayed behind to watch Brewster.  We watched “Deadpool” for the 14th time, & I’m not exaggerating that number.

Sunday was a lot of cleaning & laundry going on here.

Monday August 28, had some friends from out of town over.  Some in Regina for Guns n’ Roses, some who were just here for the summer break for university.

Tuesday night I was off to a metal show.  Saw ‘The Agonist’ from Montreal, Quebec.  Female fronted band with 5 albums to their name.  Not very many people there since it was a Tuesday.  Thanks to my younger but bigger brother for taking me.

Wednesday we went to have coffee & lunch with my mom.  They also had a few of my movies they were done with.

Thursday I slept in, like really slept in.  By the time I had showered & got dressed it was just after 11:00 am.  Mostly a free day here.  Hello couch!  I was flipping around the channels & saw that “Much Retro” was on, saw these two fossil fuel 1980s hits & changed the channel.  Too much retro, too retro.

Friday we went out for lunch & went to the mall, (I needed new undies, and no I did not poop in any of my retired undies).  Looked at some other stores.  Long time since I had been in an album store!  Tons of vinyl & ridiculously cheap CDs.  If I knew how to transfer vinyl to digital for my iPod & had room/money for a vinyl collection, I’d seriously consider buying vinyl albums.  The day ended doing a few things around the house, then to the couch.  Watched a bit of stuff on our DVR and flipped to the Blue Jays game, which I thought would be a blow out in favour of Baltimore.  Only 1 run in 13 innings for Baltimore who won the game 1-0.  The Blue Jays aren’t mathematically out of a playoff spot, but anyone watching the games or even score board watching knows they’re out of it.  Unless they win the final 27 games of the season (from September 2nd on) & rely on other teams to lose 10 games or more.

Saturday afternoon we went to Sherry & James’.  Our friend Gerry was in town.  He lives in Saskatoon & worked in the same office as Sherry.  He’s originally from Labrador & yes, he has the Newfoundland accent.

Sunday was the Labour Day classic in Regina.  Saskatchewan Roughriders vs. Winnipeg Blue Bombers.  Next week the Roughriders are Winnipeg for the “Banjo Bowl”.  Riders won the Labour Day classic, & I think they have a good shot at winning the banjo bowl as well.  Nolan had a great way of looking at it.  The Riders have been winning the last 3 games by a large margin, Winnipeg has been winning by a few points.  We’ll see what happens I guess.

I have a very strange sunburn from the game.  Left arm, left side of each leg, & a V-neck burn from my jersey, mostly on the left side of my neck.  Why is this an odd burn?  The sun was right in front of us, & I had 2 people to my left.

Here it is, Labour Day Monday.  Kim’s doing laundry, I’ll be making a juice for the week, etc.  Like the end of most weekends, we’re just getting ready for the 4 day week ahead.

IF YOU’RE HERE FOR THE UPDATE, THAT’S ALL THAT I HAVE FOR YOU TODAY.

Since the Guns n’ Roses show was here on Sunday, August 27th, I highly recommend “Diemonds” to any & all GNR fans.  I’m not a GNR fan & even I like “Diemonds”

As of Tuesday, I’ve listened to Queens of the Stone Age too many times (20) since late Thursday night!

Go to 1:30 and the song should start in a few seconds.  All you’re missing is a long opening of echoes & reverb

I never shared any videos since they were all silent videos at the time.  Prince didn’t want to have his music free on the internet.  I don’t listen to him all of the time, but I’ll listen to him 4 or 5 times a year.

I’m still listening to Queens of the Stone Age, just not as much.

I fell asleep to “The Watchmen” the album “Live & in Stereo”

I exercised to “Paramore” the new album “After Laughter”

100 crunches, 50 leg lifts, & 30 pushups per day.  Weekly total is 500 crunches, 250 leg lifts, & 150 pushups. I won’t be raising the total of crunches for a while (as much as I’d like too), leg lifts will increase, & the pushups have already increased by 10 a day.

All of these numbers feel very low to me at the moment.  I feel like I can & should raise the amount of reps because I know I can do them.  I agree though to carry on with caution.  The leg lifts work on my lower ab muscles which the crunches don’t activate & they’re done lying on my back, at some point I’ll ad the lifts on my hands & knees.  I’ll ad some back flexes next week.  Flat on the ground, front side down, then lift all of your limbs at the same time.  Probably 10-20 of them.

Although it feels like I should do more, it feels good to do something productive, no matter how much I do.  Sitting around with a bad back is something I do not want to do again!

If you’re here strictly for the cancer news, that’s all I have for you today.

I fell asleep to “Pearl Jam” the album “Ten”

Just stretching to “Soundgarden” the album “Badmotorfinger”

Yes, I’m feeling better, I just have an annoying cough that I can’t shake off.  My chiropractor saw my MRI.  He said I could have surgery ASAP or leave it until later on.  My leg & back feel fine right now, but I’ll see the surgeon & have the surgery as soon as I can.  Why wait, let’s get it done & over with.

I chatting with a friend of mine who’s friend’s daughter was mugged & shot in the face.  The daughter is 24-25.  My friend was angry that something that stupid & random could even happen.  Kim & I watch The Ellen Degeneres Show every day.  First thing when Kim gets home from work.  I couldn’t find the author she had on the show Wednesday, but I tried to remember something the author said.  The author of the book had lost a young child.

I remember the author saying ‘Don’t ask if you can do something.  Just do something to help.  Don’t make them reach out to you.’  That really got to me, that’s what I told my friend.

I never thought of it that way?  I’ll remember that.  Of course they need help, anyone in that situation would.  The smallest thing can go a long way.

Nothing is certain in life other than “I know I was born & I know that I’ll die the in between is mine”

Sure, the in between is yours but there’s often random people or things that can mess with your life.  You have to learn how to deal with situations that arise.

I remember being in the hospital & people would ask me what I needed or wanted.  Cam & Michelle asked me what I needed.  I wanted to live, but that’s not what I asked for.  I asked for a copy of “Batman: The Dark Knight” that had recently been released.  My uncle in Airdrie, Alberta also asked what I needed I said ‘The Rick Mercer Report’ book.

I don’t know what I was thinking, the fact that they caught me awake was a shot in the dark!  I watched the movie in the hospital.  I tried to read the book but didn’t realize I had bad double vision.

I didn’t really know I had cancer with a very slim chance of surviving.  I figured I was maybe sleep deprived or something like that.  Corey brought me the 2nd Thornley album that he knew I was waiting for.  Laurie brought me 2 signed guitars, 1 signed by Ian Thornley for me, & 1 signed by Chad Kroeger of “Nickelback” to raffle off.

Those all may seem like little insignificant things, but they’re were all sincere & showed that they care.

If you’re here strictly for the cancer news, that’s all I have for you today.  Slow/Quiet week.  Stretching everyday & many routine appointments to come by the end of July.

I just googled release dates for 2017 that are confirmed, but yet to be recorded, I saw no Tool.  I did see A Perfect Circle though under the TBA section.

I fell asleep to “Radiohead” the album “OK Computer” followed by “Lamb of God” the album “Sacrament”

Don’t feel as though you need to open every link.

I hope you all have fun tonight & get home safe!  No drinks for me.  I’m on some powerful muscle relaxants for my annoying nerve.  A few days after I was in the WRC they put on a “happy hour” for the residents.  I went to it.  I’m on multiple pills 3 times a day & I’m not supposed to drink then they turn around & have one of the nurse’s hand out 2 free drinks to anyone?  Holy mixed messages Batman? I don’t remember if I was able to drink anything at the time.  I couldn’t drink anything for quite a while.  My water & food came through IV for a few years.  My IV was full of a liquid called TPN.  I think it was 2010 that I was able to drink through a straw.  Even beer.  You don’t see that “every day”.

Yeah, I saw my chiropractor yesterday.  My dad took me.  I left here before 2:00 pm, then stayed at my parents’ house until after supper.  Kim had a hair appointment & wasn’t going to be home until 8:00pm or so.  Mom sent home some supper for her.

The chiropractor said it moved really well yesterday, & first did a lot of work on my ribs that had moved.  It feels REALLY good now.  He told me to gradually work into a not so demanding exercise & to keep up with my stretches.  So I did today.  Stretches, 100 crunches & 20 pushups.  As far as the leg exercises go, I plan to do them once everything feels 100% better.  Better safe than sorry.

My routine at the moment is slightly wonky, with my nerve being stubborn.  I get up & get ready at 7:00am.  By the time I do that, & pour a cup of coffee it’s near 7:30.  I watch 2 of the 3 late night talk shows I record, then CNN…………….& I laugh about not having a leader who thinks he can do whatever he wants.  I think I see Sean Spicer flapping his lips, trying to spin a quote from Trump, more often than I see Kim?  I can just imagine how he feels when his alarm goes off.  “Ah, what am I gonna have to spin today.  Wait I’ll check twitter”

The “Radiohead” album “OK Computer” is & always has been considered one of the most important albums of all time.  The really cool thing was they wrote it while on tour for the album “The Bends” in the late 1990s & Foo Fighters were opening for them.  Foo Fighters would do a 10:00 minute sound check, then Radiohead would do a 2 hour sound check arguing about how to arrange the songs.  Go to 15:12 in the video to hear FF drummer Taylor Hawkins talk about opening for Supergrass & Radiohead way back when.

I fell asleep to “Ed Sheeran” the new album “Divide” followed by “Elton John” his “Greatest Hits”

I used to read somewhat, not a ton though.  It’s a good thing I didn’t.  I can read fine, it’s just incredibly slow.  With only one eye, I end up reading the same line repeatedly.  I got through 4 pages of a novel & at the pace I was going it would’ve taken me a month to read it.  I tried a Kindle since my parents had a spare.  I could make the printing as large as I needed, which REALLY helped.  I don’t think the book I’m reading or was reading really grabbed me.  It’s the memoirs of Lamb of God vocalist Randy Blythe.  It’s about him being arrested as a murder suspect Russia, while on tour and, a more than crooked judicial system.  I think I left off in the 2nd chapter & a lot of it I knew already.

Kim went out yesterday she HATES baseball!  April 3rd is the day we will part for the summer.  She can watch what she likes on one TV & me on the other.  It’s going to be awkward when there’s company with 3 guys, spooning watching baseball.  Nah, we like each other we’ll keep the other around, we just don’t watch as much TV together after the shows end for the summer & I’m glued to baseball & CFL.

It’s been almost 4 months with this screwed up nerve.  2 nights ago, I couldn’t find a comfortable.  It’s not serious pain, just enough to not do anything to bother it.  When I do, I regret it terribly.

I laid down for a nap on the couch after the ball game since Kim was still out.  I was in & out of sleep, listening to music.

Don’t feel as though you need to open every link.

I fell asleep to “Prince” the album “Purple Rain”.  I woke up to pee & put on “Tool” the album “Lateralus”

I exercised to “Ascot Royals” the 2017 release “New Skin” only 7 songs, then I put on “Big Wreck” the new album “Grace Street”

I’ve got some “Into Eternity” the album “Dead or Dreaming” in the house today

Sunday February 3rd, 2008 was the day I was shoveling snow in our backyard.  I sat down on our steps while I experienced the most painful headache of my life.  It didn’t last long & it was at the base of my skull in the back.  Kim saw me through the kitchen window & told me to come inside.  My headache probably lasted 3 minutes & then I was fine.  I slept fine & went to work on Monday, after a week off with a bad stomach flu.

I was fine on Monday the entire day.  I didn’t even think anything of my painful/short headache.

Tuesday, February 5th 2008, again all was fine.  Kim & I were carpooling to work.  We had bought a used Pontiac Grand Am, which looked new.  We bought it roughly a year prior.  It was more used as a replacement for my Ford Tempo, which had seen better days!  I dropped of Kim & went to work.  I think it was still in the morning.  I was about to put on the printing plates for a job.  Two of my co-workers came over & told me I looked very pale.  I felt fine & carried on as usual.  Then it all happened.

I sat down on the cat-walk of my press, then I laid down on it, none of this is normal.  I called for my co-worker and said “Call 911”.  I was almost out.  The paramedics came ASAP.  Kim had been called at the same time.  She went to leave & realized I had the car.  Her boss drove her over.  I was put on a stretcher & was taken into the ambulance.  The last thing I remember was Kim getting into the ambulance & me saying “It’ll be alright sweetie”.  Apparently I was alert & answering many questions.  I don’t remember a thing though.  I was in a coma for 4 or 5 weeks with a 5-15% chance of coming out of a coma.  I slept for a year only waking up for painkillers.  On December 31st 2008 I was declared cancer free.  I really did nothing, my body took over while I pretty much slept for a year & I’m sure there was a good chunk of good luck involved.

I was discharged from my therapies at the Wascana Rehabilitation Center on Thursday July 26th 2012!  I’m told the doctors expected the cancer too comeback at the 5 year mark, that never happened luckily!

Some people say I should celebrate the days in February.  I think those are days to forget.  I’d rather celebrate July 26th & every New Year.  I don’t know if that’s right, the days in February don’t seem as though they need to be remembered?

My sciatic nerve is driving me nuts.  I get up at 8:00 or 9:00am sit around in pain, watch TV, movies, Blu-rays, DVDs, listen to music, & read a bit.  When Kim comes home I’m bored.  I want to exercise & do something productive or just be a regular person for one day with a 9:00-5:00 job or 8:00-4:00 as it was.  Great I survived cancer aka I’m alive that’s the upside, I got really lucky & I don’t take that for granted.  A month & a half wasted because of a pinched nerve????????????????  Ridiculous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The year sort of ended the same way it started in that more celebrities passed away?  Didn’t we start the year off with a steady week & a half with a celebrity passing away every day & a smattering of more throughout the year?  Prince, Lemmy, David Bowie, Leonard Cohen, George Michael, Carrie Fisher, her mother Debbie Reynolds, etc.?

Other than being in almost constant pain for roughly a month & a half, my break over the holidays was nothing to complain about!  I got to see lots of family from out of town, Tim Wong, a lifetime friend Edmonton as well, Oh & Elka came from Edmonton too.  4 Christmas’s rolled into 9 days.  My family, Kim’s family, a visit with Tim, & a visit with Elka.

I did it.  I watched my first full game of NHL hockey on December 29th.  Since the most recent strike or lockout, I’ve not watched an entire period of one NHL game.  Probably portions of 7 periods of 7 games in 3 or 4 years.  I watched L.A. Kings vs. my second favourite team the Edmonton Oilers who won 3-1.  Hockey’s not the same as it used to be.  It’s still tough for me to sit through an entire NHL game.  I find the larger ice surface over sea in the Olympics or World Juniors to be a faster, wide open game.
