Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

Music throughout the weekend.  “Lamb of God”, “Pink”, & “In Flames”

I was behind Friday night, I recorded the baseball game, we record everything.  So I didn’t get to it until 9:30 pm.  It went into the 12th inning I always record an extra hour & 1/2 just in case this happens.  Final score was whooping 1-0 for the Blue Jays.  I didn’t go to bed until 1:00 am.

Saturday we had a visit from a friend of ours from Edmonton.  She’s going to school there, she’s a year younger than my brother but hasn’t had her birthday yet.  Short visit but a good visit.  I hard boiled eggs & made my veggie juice for the week.  Kim went out with her sister & a mutual friend for manicures.  Kim’s sister turns 40 on Monday.  I’m next in line to turn 40 in our group of friends.  Kim’s birthday is in October, she’ll turn #*.

Today we’re just watching TV.  Kim got groceries this morning & today’s baseball game has just started.

I’ve got “Sum 41” on preorder for a July release.  I’m just waiting on the following albums to be released this year.  Big Wreck, Alter Bridge, Tool, Lamb of God, Anthrax, & I think Pretty Vicious are still to come this year.

Guitarist, Mark Morton (Lamb of God), breaks down their breakout album “Ashes of the Wake” now 15 years old.  I bought the 4 bonus songs & attached it to the original album I have.

We rented the movie “Vice” Saturday night.  It was very interesting, a look behind the scene of Bush Junior’s presidency with Dick Cheney as his vice president.

My take away from this movie is that Cheney made Bush jr. look like a fool.  Cheney said they should attack Iraq for WMDs, not Bush’s idea, this was Cheney’s idea.  The world complained about Bush but he was Cheney’s puppet.  At least that’s what I took away from the movie?  More late night baseball for me Saturday night.

dog’s eye view

Yeah their name is all in lower case letters.  From looking at iTunes, I guess they had 3 albums?  I own the first 2 & the second one isn’t on iTunes it’s called “Daisy”.  Their first album was among my favourites when it was released in 1995.  Think along the style of “Counting Crows” & “Matchbox 20”.  I REALLY like this group but often forget to listen to this album “Happy Nowhere”…..

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

I fell asleep to “Pretty Vicious” singles & a 4 song EP

I exercised to “Foo Fighters” the album “There is Nothing Left to Lose”

LANGUAGE!!!!!

Sorry this is a bit late today.  I had a routine doctor appointment.  I had some blood work for him to look over & I needed some refills on my pills.  My doctor comes into the room & asks “Hi, what do for you today?”  My instant reply “Not much, we just came to see what’s new & how you’re doing?”

This website was started for 2 reasons.  The first reason was to incorporate my left hand.  Hasn’t helped, my left hand is, to this day, very shaky!  Can’t even play guitar & I try for 15 minutes a week, my hand just won’t do what my brain tells it to do.

The second reason is to keep everyone up to date on my cancer recovery, which I guess is still an ongoing process.  I’m cancer free now for over 10 years, yet I’m left in a wheelchair, with an iPatch, no drivers’ license, & slow reflexes in my arms.

So I’ve beaten brain cancer.  Now I’m trying to repair what it left me with.  The exercising is to get me walking again & regain my sense of balance.  My left eye can’t be helped, it’s a nerve issue that has to fix itself.  The specialist I saw in Saskatoon in 2013 said she could do 30 surgeries on it but there’s a strong possibility that nothing would change.  It’s not just a lazy eye, it has to do with the nerve.

You know those advertisements on TV for a new pill that will fix one thing but has a possibility of 30+ side effects.  That’s just weird!  I’m on pills & the side effect is dry mouth.  That’s why I drink so much water.  Even black coffee dries me out, solution, water & nothing but during the week.  Even on St. Patrick’s day, I had 1 beer & 2 or 3 liters of water.

Look at that.  50 people die in a Mosque in New Zealand.  The first thing I heard after the shooting is that the government will be changing the gun laws!  The shooter bought 4 guns LEGALLY.  Kudos to the New Zealand government.  Hopefully other countries will follow?

I’m more than ready for a Big Wreck preorder or release date!

MARK MORTON

I’m a longtime fan of “Lamb of God”, so when one of their guitarists releases a solo album with guest vocalists on each song, of course I’ll buy it!  What I kind of don’t really care about, is how this guy, who made a documentary called “A Headbanger’s Journey” calls this a rock album?  Not sure how he figured that as a genres to put this album in, but what do I know?  I don’t think any straight up rock fan would search for this album?  I was a rock music fan & nothing else.  I would never have bothered seeking this album out!  I’d call this a metal album with a few rock songs on it.

So, here are some notable songs from the album….

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

Music throughout the weekend.  “U2”, “Pretty Vicious”, “Finger Eleven”, & “Dead Sara”

Not much happening here Friday evening, just a TON of recorded TV shows, with a small dash of rum.

Saturday started out weird.  In the past week I’ve been waking up around 5:00 am.  I don’t go to school, have a job, or a child but I wake up as if I do?  I did it again Saturday morning.  If I forget to take my bedtime pills I wake up early which I did once in Calgary last year when I saw “Queens of the Stone Age”.  That one I understand, the recent ones, I have no idea why?

Saturday ended with Kim taking me to the new liquor store which is very impressive, especially if you like wine of ANY kind.  We went to Corey & Jolene’s place for supper & early enough to hang out with the kids before supper.  This was my birthday with them.  Hannah’s had 2 piano lessons, she’s doing really well but she’s no “Elton John”…………………..yet.  Little Bennett sat beside me at supper in his highchair & was very intrigued with me the entire time.  They’re both cute kids.  Hannah’s a FANTASTIC big sister!

We had roast beef, corn & peas, along with cheesy noodles.  Cupcakes for dessert.  Fun hanging out with them.  Always a great time!

Well, the fun’s over for this weekend.  We’ll be doing the usual, getting ready for the upcoming week.  I will also be avoiding the most overhyped football game of the year.  I just can’t sit through 4 hours of football.  The CFL is 3 hours & if it goes into overtime, I hope that somebody wins in the first mini game.  NFL is always scheduled for 4 hours without overtime, I never watch it.  I’ve tried, but can’t do it.

Will they ever make the week & weekend into a 3 day weekend & a 4 day week?

What’s going on with the DC comic movies?  I also have an idea as to why the Marvel movies are beating the crap out of them at the box office.  OK, Batman vs. Superman was somewhat boring to a lot of people.  The rest of them are darker & they’re looking for an “R” rating for the movie after “Aquaman”.  Parents can & do take their kids to Marvel movies.  I don’t have a child & I wouldn’t even consider taking ANY child to a DC comic movie.  So DC started with a questionable movie, & continues to make darker movies not aimed at kids.  No kids at DC comic movies=smaller box office profits.

Look at the many reasons the new Tool album took 13 years to make.

http://loudwire.com/why-tool-new-album-taken-13-years/?fbclid=IwAR3QiEEh9_Tj6WoCawq2Ro-45ilChXl8iZVS_wXkdJOeJfnR0sbKAdjZRII

Green Day’s album “Dookie” was released 25 years ago this February 1st

Now I feel REALLY old!

LINKIN PARK

The rock/rap group that managed to stick around & be successful until the unfortunate death/suicide of singer Chester Bennington.  A 6 member group.  2 guitars, 1 bassist, 1 drummer, 1 DJ, singer Chester Bennington & rapper Mike Shinoda who’s one of the guitarists.  Based somewhere in California.  They have released a TON of albums including, mashup albums with Jay-Z, live albums, & many of their own studio albums.  Not one of those bands I would get highly excited for a new release, but I do have 9 of their albums including 2 live albums.  They got together in 1996 under a different name & released their first successful album in 2000 under the name Linkin Park.  I’ll focus on 3 of their studio albums I quite enjoy….

2000   HYBRID THEORY

2003   METEORA

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

4 days of exercise total; 200 pushups, 600 leg lifts, 300 crunches, 150 tricep lifts, 450 squats, 300 back flexes.

I fell asleep to “The Struts” the album “Everybody Wants”

I exercised to “Dead Sara” 2 EPs & 2 albums on shuffle.

I did my exercises on Wednesday but took Thursday off from them as a birthday gift to myself.  I figured my core & leg exercises are more important if the goal is to walk.  We went to my parents’ place for a birthday supper Wednesday night.  Pizza & cheese cake!

Brewster’s birthday was yesterday, he slept (as usual), I watched recorded TV from Wednesday evening.  Brewster is now 13 as of January 31st.  He’s a little slower & sleeps a TON.  Kim is still his favourite human though, that has never changed!

I can tell I’m getting a bit older as well, because of my exercising.  My muscles tend to ache a bit more, it takes me a little longer to do my exercises, the couch looks more comfortable lately, I enjoy sleeping in longer, etc.  I guess I am staring right into the eyes of 40 now.  My mind says I’m 20, my body strongly disagrees.  Ah well, I’m not a senior citizen yet!

I’m far from done with my exercising.  At times I wonder when I will see a marked improvement in my walking.  Right out of the WRC we were going to the Field House.  200 meter track.  We’d do one lap, then I’d sit to rest the 2 more laps, rest.  One more lap, then a recumbent stepper or exercise bike.  I think we’ll do that in the spring, see if we can get a 6 month pass possibly.  Long sidewalk at the back where we park.  In the winter it is quite icy aka I’m not a fan of walking on ice.

Is the future of rock music female?  I listen to more female fronted groups now more than I ever have, refreshing if you ask me!

NORAH JONES

She was born in New York in 1979.  Her father is Ravi Shankar, East Indian & a renowned sitar player, I think?  Her music is not the norm for me, but it’s nice to relax to.  I only have her first 2 albums & the acoustic song she did with Foo Fighters.

2002   COME AWAY WITH ME

2004   FEELS LIKE HOME

FOO FIGHTERS 2005

I guess she covered “Black Hole Sun” by Soundgarden too!

Music throughout the weekend.  “Pretty Vicious”, “System of a Down”, “Foo Fighters”, & “Big Wreck

Friday ended with us going to bed at 9:30 pm.  I was tired & Kim was too.  I watched whatever was left on the PVR.  We had supper watched, “The Ellen Degeneres Show”, & called it a night.

Saturday I slept in.  Kim was up & cleaning the place.  I showered, got dressed, & got my butt in gear to help with the cleaning.  We had some company that evening for a small get together, we’re all old so 10:30 pm or so we called it a night!

Today will just be us getting ready for the week ahead.  Hard boil eggs, make a veggie juice, Kim has already done the grocery shopping.

Look at that!  The USA’s government is open (temporarily) without funding for the wall.  I think he should pay government employees out of his own pocket for all of the shutdown, remember he’s “really rich

THE REFRESHMENTS

I think I might be one of a handful of people that bought this album?  There are others, but I bought this on CD in the shortly after I saw a video on Much Music.  They’re probably best known for doing the theme song for the cartoon “King of the Hill”.  I have the album “Fizzy, Fuzzy, Big, & Buzzy” & I only saw this video 4 times I’m guessing?

8 days of exercise.  I’m adding the 3 days from last week to this total; 600 pushups, 1000 leg lifts, 500 crunches, 450 tricep lifts, 750 squats, 500 back flexes.

I fell asleep to “I Mother Earth” the album “Scenery & Fish”

I exercised to “Coldplay” the album “A Head Full of Dreams”

Yes, I’m born & raised in Regina, Saskatchewan & yes we have free health care.  Living in the WRC was fine, after 2 years it got tough.  Our mortgage insurance covered us for the first 2 years, then we had to pay our mortgage & $1,700/month for my room at the Wascana Rehabilitation Center.

Kim did some paintings for friends & staff members at the WRC to get us through that rough patch.  A friend of the family cleared our drive way of snow & cut our lawn.  For the last year of that, we’d go home & Kim tended to the snow & lawn.  I was getting strong enough to transfer to my wheelchair to get to the washroom if needed.  Another friend of the family took over my Saskatchewan Roughriders season ticket.

All in all we could be in a much worse situation.  We can’t afford anything fancy, & we’ve cut back on a few things.  Kim has done really well of getting us out of debt each time we fall into some, other than our mortgage, but most people have a mortgage.  We’re not rich or poor, we’re low end middle class, or upper lower class?  I’m not classy, Kim is though……………….well classier than me.

A TON of people helped us out, & more that I didn’t mention.  THANK YOU!

Metallica lead singer, James Hetfield, will be on the big screen in a true story about serial killer John Wayne Gacy.

Oddly enough I LOVE serial killer documentaries!!!!!!!  Check out “Mindhunter” on Netflix if you do as well!!!!!!

“In Flames” is available for preorder today, full release March 1st.

I have “Dream Theater” preordered for release on February 22nd.  This one will be much better than their last album!

“System of a Down” news

PRETTY VICIOUS

I found out about this group over the holidays.  For me, they have an indie rock vibe, like ‘The Strokes’ but a TON more to my liking!  4 guys from Wales in the UK.  They have a 4 song EP which I made into an 11 song album with their 7 other singles on iTunes.  I’m assuming they’re fairly new.  The EP was from 2016, the singles were released from 2015 – 2018.  I think this is a rock band you’ll either hate or love?  I just saw that they’re planning a full release early 2019, which will include the 2 singles they released in 2018.

The newer groups out now, are found on www.youtube.com or occasionally on social media.  It was Much Music, then Regina’s rock station, then www.youtube.com, always friends, & now www.youtube.com & social media.  I rarely listen to the radio, even in 2007.

Did that last one remind you of U2 a bit or was it just me?

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

When you think you’re going to have a quiet weekend & you get a late Saturday morning phone call from your mother saying your brother is in the hospital, about to have surgery for appendicitis.  All went well!

He’ll be fine but will stay there overnight and be released today.  I’d much prefer it to be me, then I wouldn’t worry as much.

HONORABLE MENTIONS (Really nothing bad about these albums)

Dead Sara – Temporary Things Taking up Space EP

If these songs were a part of a full album, it would easily be number 1 on my list

Dead Sara – Anybody “Acoustic” Single

Easily my favourite song of the year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tesseract – Sonder

Alter Bridge – Live at The Royal Albert Hall

The stereo audio is not very good, you can barely hear the orchestra.  The surround mix on the blu-ray is MUCH better.

Pretty Vicious – Move single

Pentatonix – Top Pop, Vol. 1

Tremonti – A Dying Machine

Chromeo – Head over Heels

Live EP – Local 717 EP

Nothing but Thieves – What did you think when you made me this way? EP

Fall Out Boy – MANIA

Opeth – Live at Red Rocks Amphitheater

Smashing Pumpkins – SHINY & OH SO BRIGHT PT.1/NO PAST.  NO FUTURE.  NO SUN.

Our Lady Peace – Somethingness

DISAPPOINTMENTS

Greta Van Fleet – Anthem of the Peaceful Army

Corrosion of Conformity – No Cross No Crown

CONCERTS I SAW THIS YEAR

Big Wreck (Regina)

I Mother Earth & Finger 11 (Regina)

Queens of the Stone Age w/ Royal Blood opening (Calgary)

Comedian Jim Jeffries (Regina)

Foo Fighters (Calgary)

Comedian Craig Ferguson (Regina)

Boney M (Regina)

Usually I head up to Saskatoon to see Trivium on tour.  They skipped Saskatchewan completely this time.  Typical Canadian during a North American tour is, Montreal, Toronto, & maybe Vancouver now.  The fact that I got to see all of this stuff live is pretty cool.  Only had to go to Calgary to see Queens of the Stone Age with Royal Blood & Foo Fighters.

If I had to pick my favourite concerts of the year, Queens of the Stone Age & Boney M. would both take the win.  Could be that it was my first time seeing both bands live.  Boney M’s rhythm section was INCREDIBLE!!!!!!

Here’s what to expect in 2019.  Big Wreck, Alter Bridge, Anthrax, Devin Townsend, Dream Theater (already preordered for release Feb. 22), Megadeth, Tool, Lamb of God, Mark Morton (Lamb of God guitarist) preorder January 11, full release March 1st, Rob Zombie, Slipknot, Chevelle, & In Flames (preordered available January 11).  Likely more, that’s just off of the top of my head.

I’m really excited for the ‘In Flames’ album, full release March 1st.

This is a more thorough list of loud wire’s most anticipated rock & metal albums of 2019.

The last Tool album was released in 2006, the last System of a Down album was released in 2005.  There will be a new Tool album before a System of a Down album.

Megadeth might release a song for preorder this week?

A baseball player is offered more than what he asked for from his previous team as a free agent, $300,000,000 over 10 years.  More than that was offered & he turned it down.  He must really not like where he was, I doubt any other team will offer him $10,000,000 a year to play a game for a living?  Once he hits the age of 30 or shortly thereafter you see almost all players start to decline athletically.  The back end (the last 3-5 years) of $300,000,000 will be terrible if he gets that deal.
