Music throughout the weekend.  “Pink”, “The Damned Things”, “Foo Fighters”, & “Big Wreck”

Moments after I posted Friday’s blog, I got a call from an office regarding my mental health.  I now have an appointment scheduled for June.  That’s the earliest they can get me in.  So things are moving but at a snail’s pace.

Friday evening I watched the Toronto Blue Jays game.  The 20 years & 1 month old much talked about Vladimir Guerrero Junior’s 1st big league game.  He even got a standing ovation for grabbing a slow foul ball & tossing it to a fan in the crowd.  Toronto must be a boring place?  That or that fans have been hearing about his offense since he was signed at the age of 16.  He went 1 – 4 at bat.  After a day of interviews, a press conference & then a baseball game.  I’d just want to go home & go right to bed, at whatever age.  Toronto fans in Toronto at the games should probably dial back the energy & let the guy play?  I have never heard of that much enthusiasm for any player EVER.  Calm down, he’ll play again tomorrow.

More baseball on Saturday during the day & today.  Kim’s setting up the place for a photo shoot today.  We went for appetizers & a couple of drinks at “Tommy’s Speakeasy” on Saturday evening.  My brother & 2 other guys from their band were playing acoustic cover songs.  I spoke with one of the volunteers that I’d see in the Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) program I was in.  Brief but good to see him.

Today is the 3rd & final game with Oakland in Toronto.  They get Monday off, then 3 games in Anaheim then 3 games in Texas.  Kim has a photo shoot in the afternoon, & I’ll be boiling eggs & making my veggie juice for the week.

Sting on the Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon

Jimmy Fallon is the bee’s knees!  Get it………Sting…bee’s………oh gorsh I’m old!

Jimmy Fallon & Paul Rudd recreate their 1980s video!

No, I likely won’t see these 3 movies in the theater.  Brewster has intense anxiety separation issues, unless there is somebody around to take care of him.  My brother & I might go to Avengers: Endgame this week, we’ll see?

He’s an unknown metal musician from B.C. Canada.  He’s unknown outside the metal listeners.  He recorded “Lamb of God” their album “As the Palaces Burn” album.  At the time the some of the members of “Lamb of God” had no clue who he was?  He was asked to mix the album & replied “Are you kidding me?  NO!”

He’s been around for quite a while as the singer & guitarist for “Strapping Young Lad”, “Devin Townsend Project”, & just released a solo album on March 29th.  His brand of metal is weird.  It’s like ambient noise or a Disney song with his vocals, a guitar, & usually a choir?  Here’s a song from the “Lamb of God” album he recorded, followed by his solo album & my favourite “Devin Townsend Project” album….

He has many “Devin Townsend Project” albums & 6 “Strapping Young Lad” studio albums & a greatest hits album.  “Strapping Young Lad” is a bit too much for me.

My sciatic nerve really wants to stick around, it’s actually worse until after my Friday afternoon appointment.  I saw a massage therapist Thursday night for the 2nd time ever & my chiropractor on Friday afternoon.  I’ll continue to see them.  It’s been almost 4 weeks since I’ve exercised.  Disappointing end to a rather productive year.  All of that being said, I guess it is time to cool it for a bit & relax?  I just started relaxing earlier than I had planned.

I know that Randy Blythe, Lamb of God, considers himself a “travelling T-Shirt salesman”.  Unless you’ve started in the ‘90s or earlier, 90% of musicians can easily call themselves broke.  The lifestyle of the hair metal during the ‘80s, isn’t realistic anymore.  I’m assuming record contracts are being negotiated differently now, but I could be wrong?  Consider the reason behind your favourite musician has a fragrance, alcohol, clothing brand, etc.  It’s because they likely can’t sustain their lifestyle by making music alone.  I have a few Lamb of God DVDs.  What did they do while recording in a home town studio, after 9 hours of writing/recording?  One of them was at home building his own deck in the backyard of a modest bungalow.

Chris Cornell      Best live act of 2016

I didn’t get out to any of these shows this.  I don’t even remember hearing about any of them touring in close proximity of Saskatchewan this year & I don’t have a passport!  The best live show I saw this year was the 20th anniversary of the album “Scenery & Fish” by Canadian rockers “I Mother Earth”.

How much do you like Soundgarden’s “Badmotorfinger”?  Here’s their ad for the anniversary edition.  My favourite Soundgarden album, but I don’t need this special edition of it.

It’s Friday, I don’t want to be in here all day. Yesterday was a tad long winded. I’m a writer or I used to write lyrics, I do get writers block but I haven’t lately, sorry. My bad.

Now that this is on Facebook, please like & share this?

Favourite “Rage Against The Machine” songs? Can I just pick my 3 of 4 favourite albums? I own 3 of them on CD? POSSIBLE LANGUAGE WITH RATM?!!!!

I’ve never really been able to get into “Wilco”, think along the lines of “Blue Rodeo” watered down or “Phish”. I guess it’s a free download so have at it if you like?

I quite enjoy Paul Rudd movies. That thunder storm last night “sure escalated quickly”.

The recent release by Slipknot is just far to heavy for me. Quite a few others may call it their favourite Slipknot album. For the record I borrowed the latest album from my brother, listened to it a couple of times, gave it back, & deleted it from my iTunes. What I’ve heard from the 2004 release,Vol. 3 The Subliminal Verses, sounds pretty good.

Bill Hader on Jimmy Fallon spit skit HILARIOUS!

In Flames shared it on facebook, I’ll have to check them out. Not a metal band, but a rock band. Much Music videos are gone I don’t like what’s on the radio, so facebook is my information highway for new bands!

2 singles & a 4 song EP. ^^This is one of the singles, sounds good to me I’ll put it on my list. I have other stuff to listen to before I listen to a new group. I’ve already bought two albums this week & have two more this month on pre-order.

I got my pre-order “Mister Asylum by Highly Suspect” last night & OH, MY that’s a good rock album! Kim was online for pretty much 4 or more hours after work with Apple support & almost finished fixing iTunes Match, but our internet bit the dust late last night. The woman watched a video from the album I had pre-ordered, that doubled, random songs from it on my iPod, & said to Kim “My that’s a different video”. Kim responded “That’s my husband’s music”. Fair enough 7 songs on the 10 song album are marked as “explicit”. I don’t always listen to the words unless they’re terrible, really good or that I can relate too. More the music or melody. Yeah, weird to hear from a guy who wrote lyrics in a group, I know. “Highly Suspect” is labeled as indie rock, but sound nothing like other groups in that stupid sub-genres, The Strokes, Rah Rah (Regina based band we played with at my old high school when they were starting out). I was in grade 8 at high school with “Rah Rah” member Joel Passmore, good guy, despite me not really knowing him that well.

Thank you Consequence of Sound another new artist for me to check out & put on my list to buy later if I like it. Sound Cloud link to the song inside the CoS link.

Teaser/Trailer for upcoming X-Files mini-series. I never got into X-Files.

Another new “Lamb of God” song featuring Chino from “The Deftones” is in my iTunes files with my other pre-ordered songs from the album out on Friday the 24th.

Dave Grohl interview on starting Foo Fighters. This is a snippet of the full interview of course there’s LANGUAGE!!!

New Darius Rucker video aka Hootie from “Hootie & The Blowfish” that name was meant to be the entire bands name. Same with “Alice Cooper”! Both became the front man’s name by popular opinion. There’s no “Led & Zeppelins” or “Pink & Floyds”

Yes, Dave Grohl plays drums while regular drummer, Taylor Hawkins, sings. Brian May of Queen plays on this studio version of the song.

This is why I follow the Rock It Out Blog! Members of Nirvana, Bad Brains, The Germs, & Scream play a punk rock show to 40,000 people. LANGUAGE OF COURSE, IT’S LIVE & DAVE GROHL HAS A DIRTY MOUTH LIVE!!! Out of the 8 studio albums only 3 songs have a 4 letter word in the lyrics, one of them is a rare B-Side Kim ordered for me from Best Buy only available in the USA Best Buy stores in 2005 or 2006?

There’s a show I wouldn’t attend. Nirvana was offered to play this tour/show & declined for good reason. Metallica at the time was a group of 2, 3, or 4 alcoholics & Axl Rose was/is unreliable.

If Facebook goes down so does this blog it might end in a few years? I’m not really a big fan of communicating through Facebook. If Apple or iTunes goes down, for me that will be “..the day the music dies…”! “….I dig those rhythm & blues & THIS SONG…”!!

Songs I like. “Matchbox Twenty” had to skip a few! DON’T JUDGE ME!

P.S. You’re on your own for the rest of the day.

It’s not totally fixed, but we are closer than we were. At this point I think I should be receiving a paycheck in the mail courtesy of Apple. There has been quite a few households deleting iTunes Match. Meanwhile I’ve finished deleting & adding files that Apple screwed up with the launch of their new streaming service, Apple Music, on June 30th? They pretty much gave Match/iTunes users the middle finger, dropped the mic, & walked away.

Funny, Steve Jobs dies at a young age unfortunately, & Apple makes mistake after mistake, making users of their products angrier & angrier? I’m not angry, I’m confused. I have enough time on my hands to run in circles & see if things will work on try 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 or 50?

I’ve been a little stressed out lately. The iTunes problem is constantly on my mind, which of course some would call it a minor issue which is fine it’s a big deal for me.

The thing that worries me the most is Brewster. He turned 9 (human years) on January 31st. He’s whining, growling, panting, trying to hide, & sulking around here with his tail down. It’s as if he got 40 years older over night late last week? Kim took him to the vet yesterday. He’s back on anxiety pills & has been calm today. He always done those thing around kids & babies, when we have more than 2 people over or if there is a thunder storm. Now he’s like that all of the time, unless Kim is home. His pills must be doing the trick, he’s asleep in his dog bed.

Lars Ulrich, Metallica drummer, continues to make me question what he’s thinking when he speaks publically? One week he’s totally against streaming music, the next week he’s all for it?

Don’t blame me, I’m just the messenger. Disturbed are back.

Despite Dave Grohl’s broken leg a 20th anniversary show along with many others go on!

I find it odd that U2 sent out a free album nobody liked, & the next day Apple releases an app to delete it? Apple screws up iTunes Match for multiple households world wide at the end of June yet as of Sunday evening it’s not fixed yet? 1 album fixed in a day, multiple accounts/libraries yet almost a week later no solution. But they launched their radio station, I guess that’s their first priority?

Oh, Muse! I so do like this band!

Damon Albarn played for 5 hours & had to be carried off stage by security since he wouldn’t end the show?!

John Oliver is absolutely HILARIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Grateful Dead have called it a career and closed the book after 50 years.

Well deserved headlining act. Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds “Chasing Yesterday” album is one of many delightful moments of music this year.

Does Paul Rudd seem like an odd choice to play the role of a Marvel superhero? I would never have thought of him as a superhero, more of a comedic actor? I like Paul Rudd, I’ve just never thought of him as a superhero?

Check that out! A little “Third Ion” on the list!

I don’t plan on having a Netflix subscription until the day I die. Why would I keep a subscription to ‘rent’ music from a streaming site either. I want to know on the first of every month I don’t have to pay $9.99 to continue listening to music from Apple music. Everybody has been able to OWN the music they listen to. Fix iTunes so the artist(s) can control the price of their music? $1.50 for the label, $1.50 for the music downloading site and $0-$9.00 for the artist per album download. As for purchasing the odd song here & there, $1.00 for the label, $1.00 for the site & $0.00-$1.00 for the artist. There are 500 million iTunes accounts in the world, FIX IT ALREADY! Apple is making things terrible. Around every corner I find more people complaining about Apple/iTunes. I just spent a day & a half fixing my iTunes & iTunes Match is running at the moment, if this doesn’t work, I’ll give up & call their support team. “Here’s an iPod classic! Now you can’t have it, here’s an iPod touch with less hard drive space instead for more money!” “Here’s iTunes where musicians are paid pennies for an album download, now you can’t have it. Now you can “rent” music from our streaming site for $120/year,$9.99/month” As for a cell phone, I’m waiting for the iPhone 10, should be out early next year? I don’t think an artist makes much on their streaming site, but I could be wrong?

I’ve spent all day Thursday & most of today working on problems with my iTunes Match. I’m out until my FANTASTIC wife gets home to help me. I’ve been hung up on during a support call to Apple & put on hold for far too long. Yes I was polite, it’s not the call center’s fault & getting angry won’t solve anything. I’m sure they hung up on me because of my voice, that’s my guess? It started this week when they launched their new streaming site, oddly enough.

This will be really cool!

Pretty cool story about 2 kids in Winnipeg at a Jets hockey game. The little guy did it right!

I hate knowing an album is done the recording process yet there’s no release date.

I sort of like ‘Slayer’ most of their stuff is good until Kerry King tries to do a guitar solo in the same key as the rest of the song, which never happens.

I can listen to Slayer for about 45 minutes, then I need to listen to something else.

“Faith No More” add UK dates.

Mumford & Sons North American tour dates

Stream the new ‘Alabama Shakes’ album

So vinyl albums are making a comeback, especially in the UK. GREAT! So people will go out, buy the album if it’s not already on their iTunes, that’s the first thing they’ll do with the record before it gets scratched, listen to the actual vinyl record maybe 5 times, then put it away & a few years down the road they’ll hear it on the radio and think “Hey, I’ve got this on vinyl at home!?!?” and they’ve likely been listening to it on their iPod or iTunes multiple times since they’ve bought the vinyl album.

Vinyl or digital either sound is OK with me. I don’t have the physical space for a vinyl collection. My 600+ CDs are in the closet behind me. So for me I’m all for digital music. I now buy my music on iTunes or I’ve put about 60% of my CDs on iTunes & never touch them.

I got $235 in iTunes gift cards for Christmas in 2013 I believe. 3 hours later, I had $0.05 left on my iTunes account.

Never heard music by “Fast Romantics” I’ve heard their name mentioned before

You know I’m personally against streaming music sites. You want to use them, go ahead. I prefer to own the music I listen to, & be assured that it is mine & be on my iTunes 30 years down the road.

I don’t want to pay for radio either, but I do want to pay for my music. That’s why I’ll always harp on “…let the artists determine the price of their music on iTunes up to $20…”. If they’re comfortable with their lifestyle & make enough cash on tour, drop the price. If it’s a group struggling financially $20 on iTunes won’t matter to most. The CDs behind me likely cost about $22-$25, and there’s roughly 600 of them. Maybe it’s dumb of me? I know that my CDs & iTunes files will be there in the future, unless there’s a theft or fire here. WARNING!!! LANGUAGE!

Let me see if I have this right? Gambling on your own team to win as a on field manager get’s you a lifetime ban from anything related to baseball (Pete Rose). Using steroids is OK though & you can be inducted to the Hall of Fame. I guess those are the rules, but I totally disagree with them. Seems backwards to me?

I have to skip a few groups because I SAW QUEEN LAST NIGHT!!!!! If you had any reason to not go other than Adam Lambert was singing for Queen that’s fine. If Adam Lambert was the EXCUSE you had to not go, this is the only time I will say you’re flat out WRONG! I’m not a fan of his music and NOBODY could replace Freddie Mercury! Adam Lambert preformed, and sang VERY VERY well! He did not in anyway try to over shadow Roger Taylor, Brian May or Queen! He hit EVERY note with ease and put on a memorable show people will be talking about for years.

So, if you didn’t go because it was on a Monday and you had to make the terrible 2.5 hour drive from Regina to Saskatoon and back, or you’re not a fan of Queen or you had other priorities/commitments. That’s fine, I get it.

If Adam Lambert was your EXCUSE you missed a FANTASTIC!!!!! show, and you’re planning on seeing them the next time they come through Saskatchewan? Yeah that happens all of the time………….NOT! You will likely never have another opportunity to see Queen if you’re a fan. “Oh but really it’s because Adam Lambert is singing with them” do you know how many times I’ve heard that excuse? Do a simple search on google or youtube, wait, I’ll make this easy and give you a link……… There I heard this last night. I pretty much heard Queen’s Greatest Hits live 40 feet away from me!

Yeah, Brian May and Roger Taylor would let any moron sing for them….NO! They probably went through an audition process to find a singer that A. Could sing B. Preform and C. That they could do a tour with for however long.  They did this song even better than Paul Rudd

The highlight for me was hearing this and of course they did “Bohemian Rhapsody” I instantly thought of beer and dill pickles Rachel.

The downside of last night was that it started an hour late and whoever was in front of us had dreadful B.O., so really no big deal in the grand scheme of things.
