Exercise total for 5 days.

500 Curls w/ 20 pound dumb bells

300 Shoulder raises/Chest presses w/ 10 pound dumb bells

1050 Crunches

1050 Leg lifts

300 Squats

600 Back flexes

Yes I still do yoga twice a week for roughly an hour over those 2 days.  It just seemed pointless to give an educated guess every week.  I have yet to go walking this year.  Earlier this week I completely phased out & almost got off the couch without holding onto my transfer pole or getting my wheelchair in place.  That could have been a REALLY dumb move on my part.

If you’re exercising a lot, I HIGHLY recommend not taking 2 weeks off & then expecting to do more once you return to your exercise routine.  It takes me until Wednesday to feel normal, then I feel lazy on Thursday after my exercises.

Ugly day here weather wise on Wednesday evening.  Lots of snow & the wind was at 120 km which is 74.5 mph.  Branches from trees & everyone’s barbeque fell over.  We heard trucks blowing they’re horns followed by a crash & sirens shortly after all through the night.  The hatch to the attic in the hallway was opening & slamming shut all night too.  Thursday was pretty quiet, many businesses were closed on Thursday and shoveling themselves out of the snow.  Tons of people weren’t on the roads on Thursday.  The roads are just a thick layer of ice.  It melted on Wednesday, then around 5:30 pm it got windy & snowy fast.  All of the water from the melted snow was all over the streets & froze later on.

I watched a few TV shows that started up this week since Covid started.  I think I’ve found some that I don’t care to watch already.  I’d rather play/practice guitar than watch TV.  I have 4 can’t miss TV shows a week.  “Prodigal Son”, “The Conners”, “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert”, & “The Ellen Degeneres Show”.  Just waiting for Blue Jay baseball & CFL football to start in the summer.  I’m Canadian so you’d think that I would be an NHL fan.  I’m not really, I’m a casual score board watcher.  NHL or hockey in general faded out for me in the 1990s.

I’ve learned these 2 songs & am speeding up the 3rd one on guitar so I think I’ll just continue practicing what I know for a while.

I just realized that I’ve been adding a little extra something that isn’t there and making the song below much more difficult for me, oh well I like it!

I’m speeding this up since I now know which finger goes where & when.

I watched what turned out to be 2:45 of a live stream 2021 Product Launch on www.youtube.com of PRS Guitars 6:00 pm – 8:45 pm with 2 very brief commercial breaks for PRS guitar maintenance kits.  10 new products were introduced & none of them made me rethink my decisions.  There were between 4000-4330 people watching at any given moment though, nice to know I’m not the only guitar geek out there.  Honestly some of the “new” products were a new colour option on a guitar & 6 new guitars, 4 of them were new acoustic models made in Indonesia.

Foo Fighters have released another song from their album “Medicine at Midnight” to be released on Friday, February 5th.

I had 2 1/2 great days last week.  The domestic terrorism encouraged by the President greatly angered/saddened/depressed & made me react poorly on Fridays post.  That was not a reaction, it was edited many times & with each edit it came out the same.  I apologize if it affected anyone negatively but I don’t apologize for my feelings.  I do regret saying “For those that have ever approved of him & voted for him, you drank the Kool-Aid & screwed up BIG but you’re human & people make mistakes.” Trump supporters that weren’t involved in the riot, you’ve done nothing wrong & are entitled to your own opinion.  There were peaceful protesters at the Capitol building, that’s totally acceptable!  The people I have an issue with are the rioters & government officials that allowed the situation to get to this point despite WARNINGS from half of the world & multiple red flags from the President.  Most people saw something like this coming, how did the US government miss this?  All I ever want from someone is that they do their job.  I’d say let’s put it behind us, but something might still happen?  REALLY!  NO MEANS NO!

I don’t live there, politicians didn’t consider something of this magnitude happening, nobody listened to warnings over 4 years, & there’s not much I can do about it.

Thanks to everyone that participated in the guitar give away, & those tried to win the guitar for me!  I didn’t get the guitar, but thank you for entering the contest!

If the winner of this give away is reading this, CONGRATULATIONS!  It seems like a FANTASTIC guitar!

Now that the contest/lottery is over & I didn’t get that guitar.  I’ve decided that I’ll save table scraps to A) Buy the PRS S2 McCarty 594 then B) Buy the PRS SE “Paul’s Guitar”.  If the Core model is good enough for the owner, the cheaper SE model is great for me!  I’ll discuss this later on.

Big news in the music industry!  Gibson guitars bought the Mesa Boogie amplifier company.  Dave Mustaine of “Megadeth” left his endorsement deal with “Dean” guitars and is likely headed to “Gibson” or “Kramer” guitars for his endorsement deal that will likely feature a Signature line of Dave Mustaine guitars.  Gibson also announced a Signature line of bass guitars by Gene Simmons of “KISS”.

Mesa Boogie amplifiers were a BIG thing!  If you’ve ever listened to rock, metal, or Nu-metal from the ‘90s – early 2000s, you’ve likely heard a Mesa Boogie amplifier.  Dave Grohl even played through a Mesa Boogie amplifier for a few years as the lead singer of “Foo Fighters”.  The Gibson Company buying Mesa Boogie was not the BIG music news of the week it was more that Dave Mustaine, fired from “Metallica” in the 1980s, has left his endorsement deal at “Dean” guitars but “no one knows” what Company he’ll go to as of this writing on Monday, January 11th?

Gibson guitars have released a signature line of Gene Simmons bass guitars.  I’m indifferent to this announcement, I’ve never played Bass guitar, I’ve never been a fan of “KISS” despite knowing some of their material & I’ve never been a fan of Gene Simmons despite watching his early 2000s reality show.  His kids are AWESOME based on what I saw on the TV series.

Regarding this opinion above, to say that “KISS” is irrelevant does & doesn’t make sense.  I think “KISS” is a band you’re either a HUGE fan of or just don’t care for their music.  The most modern & relevant guitar player endorsed by Gibson is Dave Grohl & Matthew Heafy of “Trivium” as far as I know?  Dave Grohl has a signature Hollow body Trini Lopez DG-335 which I believe is made by Gibson guitars, however I don’t believe it is in production for the average consumer?  I own a Matthew Heafy signature 7 string Epiphone Les Paul.  Which is now out of production but will be returning to production with different specifications.  I wanted the original version because it was a normal/non-metal looking 7 string guitar.  I do not see myself even considering another 7 string guitar.

The fact that Gibson has an iconic name on a bass guitar line is great, whoever it is.  I don’t see anything HUGE that makes it a Gene Simmons model.  It’s a traditional/common body shape.  If you like KISS and play bass guitar you’ll likely want one, & the price will jump much higher for that line because of the name affiliation.

I’d love to own a DG-335, a Mark Tremonti signature Core PRS in any colour other than black, or a “Paul’s Guitar” either an SE or super expensive Core model since I didn’t win the SE giveaway.  The most realistic one here is the “Paul’s guitar” PRS SE, although it’s still expensive for a guitar made oversea.

This is THE time for instrument geeks!  This is the time of year when 100s of companies roll out their new models & additions to their brand.  The news is just trickling out now, since it will be online instead of a 4 day trade show in California, but all should be revealed by the end of next week.

When I eventually purchase this guitar, it will the same colour as in the video but with the shape of a Les Paul, since that’s the wiring format of it.

Whenever this buying opportunity rolls around in the next 20 years, the “Paul’s Guitar” SE will look like this…

…by that time I will have likely sold some guitar stuff.

You’re probably asking “Why does this guy need more guitars?  He’s just wasting money!”  That’s a fair question.  I don’t need or want the same guitar ever & the only thing every guitar has in common is the neck of the guitar & that can be a different size/shape on any guitar.  I literally spend nothing over the course of a week, maybe $15/month other than groceries.  When I say I’m saving table scraps for stuff I want, that means no Christmas or Birthday gifts, just substitute money instead of gifts until these guitars are purchased.  I’m not about to tie up our shared income for myself, we’re using that for renovations at the moment & hopefully find a house in 2022.  If that means guitar purchases get pushed back, I’m more than OK with that.  Who knows maybe after I purchase the PRS S2 McCarty 594 I won’t want the “Paul’s Guitar” but I’m willing to wait for the “Paul’s Guitar”, there’s no rush to get it tomorrow & I’ll have to save up for both anyways.

I put a bunch of songs on hold to fully learn these 4 song’s on guitar.  I know with practice they will come along, one at a time.

I’m really focused on learning these 4 songs to add to my arsenal of stuff I like to play and find challenging to learn.  No you haven’t seen or know everything I’m working on guitar wise.  Those will start this week as I finish learning this song.

Honestly I’ve skimmed over a few of these songs a few times with a guitar in hand.  The videos I’ve previously posted are more of a “work in progress” or status reports.  Not something I’d play on stage for an audience that paid to hear it.  I figure I’ll learn a handful of songs & just play them into the ground, Kim’s gonna have issues, although that new amplifier I bought in December is FANTASTIC even at low volume levels, should I tell her that?

I was finding it difficult to find songs I want to learn on a 7 string guitar…HELLO www.youtube.com I’ll be busy for months learning this mountain of glory!  Oh man am I gonna push myself learning that stuff.  That’s no walk in the park!  CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!

I know I’ve said it more than once but the PRS “Paul’s Guitar” SE will truly be my final purchase.  It’s getting cramped in this room & after that purchase my guitar stands will be full.  Also other guitars are not nearly as desirable or worth saving money for, to me.

I’ve been sad/angry/depressed/disappointed & have not slept well after the events in the USA since they happened on Wednesday.  Sunday night was the first time I slept well since then.

Welcome back to the program!  You’re here so if you like what you see, might as well subscribe?  Either on Facebook or with your email in the bottom right corner, it’s really that easy & it’s free!  I know you want to tell your friends, go ahead!

Friday I went to the local music store to pick up my friends guitar.  I wasn’t comfortable doing some of the repairs, so I dropped it off there Nov. 5th.  It’s here sitting in a rack with 2 of my guitars.  My brother had a 5 guitar floor stand our band would use when we played live.  Bass player, my brother, & I would all bring 2 instruments to a live show, different tunings & it’s reassuring to have a backup if something goes wrong live.

That afternoon Kim rearranged the desks in our computer room now that we’ve sold the big DVD/Blu-ray shelf to a friend of ours.  It feels much bigger in here.  I played guitar for a bit on Friday afternoon but not much.

Kim was working all day on Saturday.  She got groceries Sunday morning & worked until 9:00 pm that night.

I stayed out of her way Saturday and played guitar most of the day.  That evening I watched a “Foo Fighters” live stream concert for $15.  Not the same as seeing them live but it also didn’t cost me $90.  Only 1:30 hour long instead of the usual 2:45 – 3:30 hour long live show, still a good deal.

They kicked off the show with a song I’ve been working on which I will have ready to go by the time you read this.  I was practicing this song & whatever else I could think of that I know and learned the next song over the course of a quick look on Sunday & a couple of hours Monday.  I surprised myself in a good way!

I HIGHLY recommend “Marty Music” on www.youtube.com if you want to learn a song on guitar, if the tab doesn’t sound right & you can’t figure it out.  He’s the man to go to!  There are no tabs for “Audioslave” or “Rage Against the Machine” music, but good ol’ Mart Music has lessons for some of them.

Then I practiced ‘Monkey Wrench’ and when I needed a break I played other songs I know in that tuning.

Learned a mode to use on guitar.  A mode is basically a different way of using a scale for minor & major sounds from what I understand.  I now know the major & minor pentatonic scale and the Dorian mode to a point.  I’ll just call it the DeLorean mode.  #BacktotheFuture kids watch it!

I’m watching a guy on youtube complaining about the amplifier I’m hoping to get next year.  I’m looking at the “Boss Katana 50W MK2” which has been out for a while.  He’s complaining that he bought the “Boss Katana 50W MK1”.  He bought the first version shortly before the second version was released.  It’s a digital/analogue amplifier, a hybrid.  They’ve already released 5 firmware updates on the 2nd version, if I want to I can connect it to my computer to update it to the latest version.

Essentially he’s complaining about everything being digital now instead of analogue.  I get it, but I no longer see any reason to complain about everything going digital.  I didn’t buy a cell phone because of many reasons including that it’s digital & will continue to require updates.

Why would I want a digital/analogue amplifier then?  Well I have no intention of connecting it to the internet.  There’s already 4 amplifier settings to choose out of 10 built into the amplifier & 5 effects to choose out of 15 for each amplifier setting.  I really don’t care if it’s the latest & greatest technology.  I just want it to work, sound decent, and keep it easy to use.  I’m far from a technological wizard.  My phone works, it makes phone calls.  My email & social media work, they send messages.  The amplifier comes with a bunch of digital options I likely won’t use.

I used to have “FOMO”, Fear of Missing Out.  Too expensive to keep up with the Joneses.  If I’m missing out so be it, I don’t know what I’m missing out on & for me, in this situation, ignorance is bliss.

I was planning to return to buying CDs for music from around 15 bands.  I realized that CDs are often $5-$20 more than iTunes.  I scaled my CD purchases for the future down to 6 bands, a few from iTunes, & a lot of streaming from now on or some bands are retired or I’m just not that interested in anymore.

Guess I’m carrying on with the thinking of “Marie Kondo”, does this bring me joy?  Kim, Brewster, Friends & Family, Guitars, Music, a bit of TV, & a few movies.  Downsizing to the important things, not a lot of storage for other stuff here.  If it’s not seasonal & hasn’t been used in 6 months, why do I need to keep it?

I’m hopeful that the PRS S2 McCarty 594 will be my final guitar purchase.  I’m a sucker for any brand of guitar that sounds & is wired like a Les Paul guitar.  The PRS S2 is made to sound like a 1959 Gibson Les Paul & that’s my reason for getting it.  Its $1000 less than a Gibson reissue too & price is a factor.  Of course I have back up ideas, but nothing concrete.  I likely won’t even have this guitar until late next year if I order it between February-May.  There’s a 6 month wait once the order is placed.  I’ll have to hear what I have after I get the amplifier in 2022 before I even start considering an inexpensive guitar.

I have a Fender Thinline & I’ll have 2 PRS S2 guitars, I can’t afford any other expensive guitar brands.  Gibson, Jackson, Ibanez, Kiesel, ESP, Charvel, Schecter, etc. are out money wise.  If I want to look for another guitar, Kim might hurt me &/or whatever guitar related stuff will come out of my own pocket, not our cash together.

A Core PRS “Paul’s guitar” would be nice, but it’s not wired like Les Paul.  A “Mark Tremonti” Core PRS is basically a Les Paul in looks & wiring.  Either way both are far beyond what I’d ever spend on a guitar.  I really like PRS guitars, but even they’re most affordable SE line is too expensive for me.

https://www.prsguitars.com/index.php/electrics/model/mark_tremonti_signature_2020

I stayed up until midnight.  Kim was watching “Dancing with the Stars” so I came in here and chatted with one of our friends.  I went back to the living room to hang out with, still watching ‘Dancing with the Stars’, she said she was going to bed after the show since it was already 11:00 pm.  I came back in here to shut down my computron.  Ended up [laying guitar unplugged until midnight.  Random scales & songs from memory.

As for what I’m listening to these days, still the Nothing but Thieves album ‘Moral Panic’.  I’m also listening to the new Sevendust album ‘Blood & Stone’.

Stuff I’ve learned, never the solo though.

If you had asked me in 2001 if I was going to learn any Led Zeppelin, the answer would have been a quick “NO”.  I was singing lead vocals in a rock band before I owned a guitar.  I still have to get more comfortable with “Kashmir” & all of the little fills, strings & horn parts, but it’s there!

REMEMBER I HAVE THURSDAY & FRIDAY OFF THIS WEEK & I’LL POST ON TUESDAY!

450 Curls w/ 20 pound dumb bells

250 Shoulder raises/Chest presses w/ 10 pound dumb bells

250 Crunches

250 Leg lifts

100 Squats

140 Back flexes

55 minutes of yoga over 2 days

I did 2 days of weights & yoga this week just to change it up this week.  We have a long weekend every month until the end of the year.  I figure I’ll change my exercises every now & then for the year.  I did have 1 beer this past Friday to celebrate the return of baseball.  It had been 3 weeks without alcohol for me.  I’m pretty sure from now on I’ll just have local craft beer in the fridge & spiced rum in the liquor cabinet.  Kim drinks far less than I do.  She’ll have maybe 4 drinks in the summer?

I’m fine on guitar.  I create music that I like.  The point of learning a song is to learn what you like, learn how to play parts you like & move on I want to learn stuff I’ve never attempted in the past, like Metallica’s “Master of Puppets”.  I had to get my head around the arragement though.  I’ve learned and practiced about 1/3 of the song, got confused on what part comes next, so I go to the lesson on www.youtube.com & the tabulature for the song.  Most guitar players can’t read music so we read tabs.

https://tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/tab/metallica/master-of-puppets-tabs-8565

When I first learned guitar I learned songs from was about a dozen tab sites.  Now there’s EVERYTHING on this site for any song.  There was no www.youtube.com when I was initially starting out either.  Now I go to www.youtube.com to learn scales, odd chord shapes, tunings, etc.  Much easier to learn guitar now than it was in 2001.

Yesterday I figured I should just play the songs I’ve learned & become more comfortable with them.  About 3 hours later I had ran through 15 songs & cleaned up a few spots.  Foo Fighters, Led Zeppelin, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Nothging But Thieves, Pearl Jam, Pantera, Metallica, & stuff I’ve come up with.  I’ll do that for a few days then take on some more stuff.  Playing through about 20 songs & figured this out, something I haven’t played in 19 years, & I only played it a handful of times

Even the President has started wearing a mask on occasion, he’s about 5 months late but at least he’s wearing one.  Here’s the virus map of the world.

https://covid19.who.int/?gclid=CjwKCAjw9vn4BRBaEiwAh0muDJuFyn73fzkJrkQyngFyDO1dHoFN_OZ-q7017Ple4dcg6Oovu1mv4xoCOgEQAvD_BwE

I’m pretty sure the President’s Federal unlabeled law enforcement for the protests is causing more panic than the protesters are.  Yeah, run up to me & throw me in an unmarked van.  Might as well add tinted windows, a blind fold, & offer me candy like some sick child molester.

If everybody starts wearing a mask, practicing social distancing, & stays home or at least on their property, that map will look a lot better in a month.  Common sense, humanity, & respect for others.  How difficult is it to get dressed in the morning & go out?  While you’re getting dressed for the day add a mask to your wardrobe.  Go to work, run a couple of errands, wear a mask as much as possible, then go home.  Take your mask off and hangout in your backyard on your deck, patio, lawn, balcony, or open a window.  You don’t have to feel like a prisoner.  Just wear a mask please?

We all get to take off a mask once were home at the end of the day, I have to wear my eye patch until I go to bed & put it on before I leave the bedroom.  I’d rather see things normally than not.  I’d also rather treat people with respect so they don’t have to get sick or die, so I wear a mask on the odd occasion I’m in public.

Miami is a hot spot, so guess what happened on Monday?  13 players & staff  for Miami’s baseball team tested positive for the virus.  The comissioner of MLB cancelled all games involving Miami until Monday, August 3rd.  Baseball players usually play a game everyday (60 games from July 23rd until the beginning of October, 6 days off).  On Tuesday night Miami got 4 more tests back that were positive for the virus.  Like nobody saw this coming?????  Better off cancelling the season all together.

LET ME MAKE THIS BLUNT.  IF YOU’RE NOT WEARING A MASK IN PUBLIC & PUBLIC DISTANCING, YOU’RE PART OF THE PROBLEM!

My instructor at SIAST past away this weekend.  This is the man that taught me how to run a printing press.  I was also his guinea pig for the CO-OP work program.  I haven’t talked with him since I was working.  I do remember that if I had a test with him, the chances of passing the test increased if popcorn with butter & lots of salt were made for him.  R.I.P. Gord

Other stuff I played through.  I’ll do this for a few days, learn the rest of “Master of Puppets”, then learn some Trivium.

I watched “Jimmy Kimmel Live” from Thursday July 9th, 2020.  Guest host Billy Eichner with guest Billy Porter.  For those who don’t know, Billy Porter is a gay, black celebrity.  For the record I know gay people & black people.  There’s a clip within 1:00 minute of the video I’d like to speak about.

Billy Porter is calling out the black community on their treatment of the #LGBTQ+ community.  Fair enough, I’m not black or gay so I’ve never experienced what he has.  This interview did not enrage me in any way, it inspired me to write this.

I’d like to say something on behalf of straight white people. We’re not all racist or homophobic.  Police officers are not all racist or homophobic.

Just because a person has a different skin complexion &/or sexuality does not mean they hate those that are different from them.  I’m not black, gay, transgender, queer, bisexual, or a police officer.  I will say that I’m uninformed but learning more now.

Yes I do support the #blacklivesmatter movement & the #LGBTQ+ community.  I will always support these groups.  I know my friends & family that are police officers, of a different race, & those that are gay have experienced many different things than I have.  That doesn’t make any of them bad people, nor does it make every other individual a bad person.

There are good people & bad people EVERYWHERE.  They come in all colours, shapes, sizes, professions, religions, political views, & sexual orientations.

I agree with the peaceful protesters & the change they’re protesting for.  I don’t like the fact that there’s a label for the #LGBTQ+ community, but I understand the need to be included in a community.

I will say that I’m not outgoing.  I do not think that makes me racist or homophobic.  I’m obviously approachable or I wouldn’t have friends.  I don’t care about an individual’s race, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, history, etc.  What I care about is respect.  More specifically MUTUAL RESPECT.

I’ll treat anyone with respect right from the start & we’ll be friends.  Respect is a two-way street though.  Always remember the golden rule ‘Treat others as you want to be treated’.

Wear a mask & the positive tests for the virus decline.  Blatant proof it works!

Show some humanity & wear a mask please?!  Coronavirus doesn’t care about your political views, just wear a mask please?!?!!!!

At this point my hand & arm muscles are fine for guitar.  It’s more of a pick a song, keep practicing it & move on.  A song can take an hour or a month to learn at this point.  Depends on the song & how much I practice it.  Depends on my energy when I play as well.  The more energy I have, the more I’ll be focused on the task at hand.

I listen to metal music, but I’m just starting to play more of it.  I’m working on these 3 songs but they’ll take more time than others.

OK, this one’s not a metal song but it’s busy!!!

Playing guitar is not a destination, there is no point where you can say “I’m a perfect guitar player”, I can easily say I’m a beginner playing some more technically advanced songs than I ever would have attempted.  It’s a journey with something new around every corner.

Still waiting for this guitar ordered in January.  I emailed yesterday and despite the pandemic, it’s still scheduled for shipping at the end of August.

S2 Custom 22 Semi-Hollow Body Guitar w/Gig Bag - McCarty Sunburst

I’m back & forth on the blue colour I’d like to order.  I think this is nicer now?

S2 McCarty 594 Electric Guitar with Gigbag - Whale Blue

Still blue though.  Solid blue instead of the faded blue burst.  I have quite a while to think about it though.

YAY regular season baseball starts on Friday, July 24th for the Toronto Blue Jays……………………………..in FLORIDA?!?!?!?

Learning on guitar “Pantera” the song “Walk”.  No solos, just the riff & rhythm parts, always.

Welcome back to the program!  You’re here so if you like what you see, might as well subscribe?  Either on Facebook or with your email in the bottom right corner, it’s really that easy & it’s free!  I know you want to tell your friends, go ahead!

Let me explain this before you hate me please?  Watching the blatant murder of George Floyd at the hands of a police officer with other officers standing by, doing nothing, was horrendous.  No humanity there at all.  A 40 year old man called out for his mother!  I’m 40.  The fact that I’m a 40 year old male is where the similarities between George Floyd & I stop.

With all of this happening in the USA, a black man in Atlanta was shot by a police officer.  The man was pulled over for drunk driving.  He was searched for weapons & none were found.  He failed the sobriety test, he then resisted arrest.  I don’t know how everything works with the police there, but why pull a gun on an unarmed drunk driver.  I understand using force in this situation.  Why a gun though?  If they’ve determined that he’s unarmed, shouldn’t they just eliminate the idea of using a gun completely?

I didn’t grow up in America, heck I’ve only visited once, to Boston.  I was born, grew up, & live in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada aka the middle of nowhere.  Saskatchewan barely gets recognized as a Canadian province despite being in the middle of Western Canada.  Nothing monumental happens here.

Yes, there is racism everywhere & right now all eyes are on America, since the disgusting act of police brutality driven by race no doubt, George Floyd’s murder on video.  There is racism in Canada too.  The RCMP are investigating many arrests & looking at what rules should be enforced & those that need to be changed or removed.

After watching the documentary “13th”, which I highly recommend watching, I’ve recently come to a conclusion of sorts.  Based on what I see from American TV/news & Canadian TV/news, America’s history of racism seems to be far worse than Canada’s history of racism.

Here’s the link to the full length documentary 1:40 hours

This documentary depicts a long history of racism in the USA.  Based on the Canadian history I was taught & what I see on even just Canadian news.  Canada has either kept our history of racism very quiet or it’s nothing like the horror story of America’s history of racism.

With what’s going on in the USA between the protests, politics, & the global pandemic.  Now more than ever, as a physically handicapped white male, I feel very safe in Canada.  I don’t think our current Federal leader is the best choice, nor did I vote for him.  I know for certain that if given the option to vote in the American Federal election either this year or 3 ½ years ago the current administration in the USA would never get my vote.  As a Canadian watching everything unfold in the USA regarding racism & politics, I just shake my head & can’t avoid any of it, especially the political side of things that I’d like to just avoid completely.  Donald Trump is all over Canadian news, even my local Regina news.

So why do Canadians get a large dose of American news?  I can think of 2 reasons.  America & Canada share a border & imports.  America is also known as the Greatest Country in the World.  Is it Switzerland that’s neutral?  To me, that’s the Greatest Country in the World.  I’ve obviously never been there, but I never hear about them in the news.  Seems to be a nation that keeps they’re head down, tries not to ruffle any feathers, & deals with whatever problems they have?

Now that all of that’s been said I’m still likely racist & more ignorant than I first suspected.  Educate me please?  If I’m missing a large part of Canadian history, point me in the direction to learn more.  I’m sure there’s more for me to learn about American history too, so point me in that direction too.  I want to evolve to a better person!  For the record, #blacklivesmatter

As far as guitar goes, my shoulder got sore from playing so much on Thursday, Friday, & Saturday.  Sunday was an “I want to play but I shouldn’t” day, but I did for a little more 2:30 hours.  I think I played for almost 20 hours over those 3 days.  I want everything to be perfect.

I kept looking at reviews of the amplifier I’d like to upgrade to, of course I’d trade mine in or sell it.  I can’t find a bad review about it.  Even out of the box it’s got far more stuff built into it than what I have at a very reasonable price.  I can even adjust the wattage to a level more appropriate to bedroom/apartment volume at 0.5 Watts to 25 Watts or 50 Watts.  I’d have to get the additional 2 button footswitch though.

https://www.long-mcquade.com/12567/Guitars/Guitar_Effects/Boss/FS-6_-_Dual_Footswitch.htm

Good grief I hope this amp pops up on a used shelf in the future!  The ordered guitar & my saving for the other guitar are far more important to me as far as gear goes.

S2 Custom 22 Semi-Hollow Body Guitar w/Gig Bag - McCarty Sunburst

S2 McCarty 594 Electric Guitar with Gigbag - Whale Blue

I play at home for myself.  After the guitar & eventually the amplifier, I don’t need more clutter.  I’ve even eliminated my effect pedals to a delay pedal, a phaser pedal, & a tuner.  That amplifier has 60 effects built in & I can think of 2 I’d try & explore what else is there, it also has 10 different amplifiers built into it!

I figure I should post a few videos on Facebook of me playing abbreviated songs on guitar. Time to walk the walk, since I’ve talked the talk.  So be ready on Friday & I’ll start with something rather simple but recognizable.  No singing, I haven’t worked on that yet, talking is hard enough!

“Lamb of God’s” new self-titled album will be released on Friday!

New video from metal band “The Agonist” out of Montreal.  From their most recent release “Orphans”

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

300 Curls w/ 20 pound dumb bells

180 Shoulder raises/Chest presses w/ 10 pound dumb bells

400 Crunches

300 Leg lifts

200 Squats while balancing on my toes.

200 Back flexes

268.5 meters = 880.9 feet walking distance.  No rest period.  Quality not quantity!

2 days of yoga

I fell asleep to “Stone Temple Pilots” the album “Purple”

I exercised to “Audioslave” the album “Audioslave”

Everything is going really well, just a minor hiccup this week.  I like to get up early & get things done typically.  Tuesday my body refused to get out of bed until 10:00 am?  I got up & did my exercises ASAP, ended up being a shorter day than usual but still a beneficial day.  I managed to get more repetitions in during my exercise.

Wednesday was worse I slept/stayed in bed until 11:20 am.  I only got up because I had to pee.  I decided to skip my morning exercises & just go walking with my walker when Kim got home.  I had to do something?  I was too tired to even pick up a guitar for a productive practice.

Not sure what was going on.  I go to bed between 10:00 – 10:30 pm every night as usual.  Wednesday seemed REALLY short.  Did my walking when Kim got home & near the end of 268.5 meters of walking I got hot & tired.  A couple of minor hiccups near the end as I got tired, but I guess that’s to be expected.  Overall it wasn’t bad.  It finally felt somewhat normal to walk.  I didn’t have to think about certain aspects of walking, my body was doing a lot of things naturally.  I was pretty happy with that!

Get up Thursday morning at 8:00 am & everything feels right again!  Breakfast, exercise, coffee and a snack, shower, lunch, etc & all is in order.

Once this is posted, my long weekend starts!  3 day weekend in parts of Canada.  Monday is “Family Day” & there is some family coming to town.  Should be a great weekend!

“Lamb of God’s” “Laid to Rest” was my favourite metal song & favourite metal band but “Trivium” & their song “Heart from Your Hate” are really making a run.  The last “In Flames” album from the Swedish metal group was FANTASTIC too!  Those have been my 3 favourite metal bands since I heard them in 2005-2006.  Trivium & Lamb of God are easily in my top 10 bands overall.  Yes, Metallica, Pantera, & Megadeth are among my favourite metal groups.  Foo Fighters & Big Wreck always share the absolute gold standard for me musically, out of any bands!

HAPPY, HAPPY, JOY, JOY “Foo Fighters” are done recording the new album!  It’s a podcast, there is LANGUAGE!  Skip ahead to the 45 minute mark if you’d like to hear Dave Grohl.  I zipped through the interview but didn’t hear about a release date?

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

What I’ve been listening to lately, “The Darkness”, “Coheed and Cambria”, “I Built the Sky”, & “Alter Bridge”.

Where ever the picture ends up on here, that’s a portion of my Tuesday & Thursday exercise.  I don’t own a cell phone but Kim does.  She wants to do yoga with me when she gets home from work & took a few pictures that evening.

I ended up doing a lot of nothing from Friday, November 15th to Sunday, November 24th.  Started up the exercise again on the 25th.  Kim decided she’d like to do yoga with me on Tuesdays & Thursdays.  So I do some stretching & weights in the morning, then yoga when she gets home after work.

So far my eating habits have remained quite similar.  I know I’ll partake in some taste testing of holiday baked goods though, then perhaps during my big 4-0 in January.

Gotta get to the weights!  My T-Shirts are pretty much hanging on to me for dear life.  Other than the occasional light eggnog in a coffee, I’m still running sugar free, outside of natural sugar.

I’m not going to avoid holiday baking, just in moderation.

I intended to ask for a few things for Christmas & let Kim bank any extra cash for herself or whatever expenses we need it for.  Nobody was OK with what I was going to do with the cash, including Kim.  She insisted I save it for the guitar I want.  So I guess I’ll be ordering this guitar in the summer, in a McCarty Sunburst finish.  We’ve got to save up some cash until then.

https://www.prsguitars.com/index.php/electrics/model/s2_custom_22_semi_hollow_2020

As for the Epiphone 7 string, I’ll think about that in 8 years if I’m still into metal, although it does look pretty nice!  I was going to get this one since it’s a limited edition, Kim said to order the more expensive one though?  If I ever get a 7 string guitar, I hope these are still in production?

http://www.epiphone.com/Products/Les-Paul/Matt-Heafy-Les-Paul-Custom-7.aspx

I have been practicing my guitar constantly.  Mostly finger exercises to build up the strength in my left hand.  Usually 4-9 hours a week.  I was a singer that learned rhythm guitar to fill out a rock band.  Playing fast or soloing was never my thing & was beyond my ability.  Since my voice hasn’t caught up yet, I’m learning a bunch of new stuff to become a more versatile guitar player. I played my guitar “…until my fingers (almost) blead…” the last week and a bit.

The Christmas tree has been up since November 16th, little early for me but it had to go up sometime.  Now we can get some gift shopping done for what I will now call “The most (stressful) time of the year”.  I need lists people, I can’t read your minds?!

I’m usually really into the holiday season, no snow here yet, I need snow.  It was raining on November 24th, my parents’ 41st anniversary & Grey Cup 107.  There should be snow on the ground by now not “November Rain”.

Brewster’s feeling better now & done with his medications.  He even has enough energy to play for a bit twice a day.  He’s now back to day care once a week to play with other dogs.  He still gets very excited when he figures out where he’s going & can’t get in there fast enough.

Kim’s quite busy at work & is pretty tired after each day.  I think her entire department told their manager they need another person on staff?

After a week of not exercising & a week of exercising, I find that exercising makes me more aware around here.  I find that I manage my time better.  I also get up earlier to accomplish my exercise & other tasks for the day.  I got up at 6:30 am.  I fed Brewster, had my small breakfast (I eat 5 or 6 small meals/snacks a day), cleaned up Brewster’s bowl, & exercised.  It was only 9:30 am after all of that!  I checked my email & Facebook, had a bite to eat, showered, & had an early lunch around 11:30 am.  Spent the rest of the day practicing guitar for a few hours & watched some recorded TV.

I don’t typically post videos or photos on anything.  I don’t own a cell phone but my wife does.  I’m usually at home with no need or desire for a cell phone & if I’m elsewhere, I’m busy usually with someone else who likely has a cell phone.  An email or a Facebook message/notification will be there when I get home.  I’ve tried texting & I just don’t like it.  I find texting to be the lazy way of calling someone.  It’s easier to dial a number rather than type out a conversation on a tiny keyboard.  Cell phones & I aren’t friends.  They’re just not for me.

That being said, my speech isn’t great.  I’m hard to understand.  I feel like I have to exaggerate my lip movement to speak well & I ALWAYS forget that.  I’m also very quiet when I speak.  Since cancer I have very short breath support.  It’s gotten better, but at first my sentences were very broken in odd/random places.

Out to visit my uncle in Sask. Beach this week for lunch & a few games of cribbage with my parents.  Nice going out there, seeing someone I haven’t seen in a while in a very wheelchair accessible place (he’s in a wheelchair also & Kim hates cribbage).

Thursday evening we went to see our “niece’s” Christmas school musical.  I don’t even remember the entire “12 days of Christmas” & I just saw it?!  Great to hear kids singing this time of year.  I’m surprised the school got away with calling it a “Christmas” event what with everything having to be so politically correct!  I’m good either way, I know what I’m celebrating.  If you’re against that, all the power to you.

It also was a blizzard outside Thursday evening!  FINALLY………………….SNOW!!!!!!!!  I can’t stand the heat, I’ve been waiting for this since January!  I’m typically found wearing shorts, Kim made me wear pants = not a happy Chris.  I can’t even remember the last time I was outside for more than “5 minutes…”?  In retrospect, I should have gone with the shorts.  Our friends were up front to see their daughter.  We were at the back (wheelchair).  The parents at the back didn’t seem to care much.  They were mostly talking on their phone, texting, & visiting with other parents, that was utterly disappointing/heart breaking.

Well the snow is here, the house is decorated, the tree is up, I’ve seen a Christmas play by kids, & I still have resting Chris face.  What the hell is wrong with me?

I don’t see any issues with this?

She’s an American citizen, the impeachment is being done as stated by the Constitution & it’s well known that the democrats don’t want the current president re-elected.  So why is the guy so shocked by her statement?  Call me a dumb Canadian, but this isn’t breaking news.  I haven’t even watched American news in months.

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

4 day exercise total;  00 leg lifts, 00 crunches, 00 squats, 00 back flexes, 0 pushups, 200 curls (10 pounds), 00 tricep extensions (7 pounds), 50 shoulder raises (7 pounds).  Stretching & TONS of yoga.

I fell asleep to “Of Monsters & Men” the album “Fever Dream”

THE FOLLOWING IS A PITY PARTY, THEN A REALIZATION AT THE END.

Not the greatest of weeks.  Our dream house was sold officially as of Tuesday evening.  I got the link update Wednesday morning.  I spent Monday evening & Tuesday evening worrying about it & stayed up to late.  Felt better as Thursday went on.  There was a viewing of our place Thursday, which is great, but if anyone makes an offer, where do we go?  Regina’s not a big city & something accessible for me seems to be a rarity at best.  We took the viewing time to see another house (just the neighbourhood & the outside) in an area that’s nice, but so far away from every other part of the city!

I’ve been trying to educate myself for the federal election on Monday.  The more I dig, the more I realize why I haven’t voted in 21 years.  I watched the federal debate twice which was oh so uninformative.  It was pretty much me & the candidates at a bar for an evening at the end it felt like “Well, we’re the last 2 people here, I guess you’re it”.  I’m sorry but 6 candidates to choose from & not one of them has EARNED my vote.  I’ll vote since I said I will, but I’d much rather continue to exercise my right not to vote!  MAYBE I’ll vote again………….in 21 years.  Waste of my time & energy.  “Let’s promise the moon to everyone, then pretend we never said that”.  I don’t know of an elected politician that has followed through on what became empty promises.  Somebody please prove me wrong after this election?

Kim’s teeth are done & she’s happy with them.  Now the bill.  Then Brewster’s tests & medication.  Then Christmas gifts to purchase.

So I’ve spent this week stressing HARD about all of this, mostly finding a wheelchair accessible house, which seems hopeless.

I haven’t felt like eating or working out this week so far.  What am I looking forward to this week?  Watching the Rider game on TV tonight that’s in B.C. Other than that “I’m broken” for now.

I may be down now, but Monday is the start of a new week!

How I’m feeling as of Thursday night & even more so Friday morning.  Instead of stepping back & looking at a big picture of overwhelming stuff, I took a step closer.  I saw one thing at a time.  I can chip away at things one by one & clear up all of this one thing at a time.

The election will be over on Monday, after that we can focus on Brewster’s health.  While doing that we’ll look for a house.  Through all of this I’ll get back into my smaller routine of exercising daily.  There will be interruptions but that’s life.  Ideally we’d be moving into our new house by mid-November, but it’s been purchased, we can’t change that, just move on & keep doing our thing.

If you’re of age & not easily offended I hope you’ve seen “Deadpool”, if not you’re WAY too late!  Since the 3rd Deadpool could be in the beginning stages!?

Sell out or don’t, as long as you’re happy with where you are & how you got there & didn’t forget the people that helped you get there, be happy but humble!

My last 2 album purchases before Christmas are released today.  “Alter Bridge” & “Jimmy Eat World”.  I know I’ll be listening to a TON of “Alter Bridge”, “TOOL”, “Big Wreck”, “In Flames”, “Billie Eilish”, etc. for the rest of the year!  There was a TON of great music that was released this year & it’s only mid-October!

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

5 day exercise total;  900 leg lifts, 1200 crunches, 100 squats, 300 back flexes, 50 pushups, 600 curls (10 pounds), 300 tricep extensions (7 pounds), 200 shoulder raises (7 pounds).  Stretching & yoga.

Much more yoga than weights this week.  I do all of my exercises out of my wheelchair. So yoga poses like downward dog have always looked like downward dog.  I do 4 poses & they really seem to help.  I’m not passing up the weights though!  Tuesdays & Thursdays are a minimum of 2 hours.

I fell asleep to “Melissa Auf Der Maur” the album “Auf Der Maur”

I exercised to “Eric Clapton” the Hits compilation “20th Century Masters”

Well today is the day we find out if the other buyers got the house we both dreamt about when we we’re engaged.  It changed a bit now that I’m in a wheelchair but it’s perfect otherwise.  I didn’t sleep well last night, trying not to get my hopes up, but it’s not working great.

I don’t wish bad things for anyone, but the financing for the other buyers has to fall out or something, then we have to sell our place ASAP & put in a really good offer.  A TON of things have to happen for us to have a chance at getting it, so we’ll see what happens today?

I actually took a pill to get that nagging pain out of my back.  I’ve had back issues since 1996 on & off.  The surgeon won’t operate since the MRI he saw was long after it last flared up.  Had to see a physiotherapist a few times & do certain stretches to get rid of it.  I still do many of those stretches.

I do my stretching, yoga & weights every Tuesday & Thursday.  I’ve been doing about an hour of stretching & yoga this week, then weights & pushups at the end if I have any gas left in the tank.

Doing more yoga I find extremely satisfying & beneficial.  Of course I fall, I have to fall before I walk!  The stronger I get, the more I impress myself ex:  While doing downward dog, I’m able to lift one foot at a time so that it’s parallel to the ground & hold it for about 10 seconds.  I fell once a few weeks ago getting down from that position.  I haven’t stopped doing it though.

This guy is my inspiration.  No I don’t know him personally.  I was an athlete that never tried out for any sports in high school other than baseball.  The coach from the basketball team & the coach from the football team approached me to try out, I had no interest though.

This is what I’m trying to do now.  He has canes & I’m in a wheelchair but we’re striving for the same thing…….to walk.  I’m not sure how long it took him, but no matter how long it takes me, I’m more determined than I’ve ever been!  That’s where my stubbornness is beneficial.

So right now I exercise 5 days a week, practice/play guitar, take care of the supper dishes, also my dishes during the day, write this, watch a little TV, currently house shopping (wheelchair accessible is hard to find), & hang out with my wife & dog.  Kim & I both keep very busy lately!

Brewster is at daycare today, he loves it & gets very excited when he sees the building.  Kim will pick him up after work & he’ll eat then crash hard until tomorrow.  He’s getting old but we get to see the heart of a puppy for a few minutes a day still!

Great news for “Metallica” fans………………in the USA.  Why are “Foo Fighters” shown on stage in the video but not mentioned?  Does this mean anything?

Canadian Thanksgiving weekend, so I’ll catch you on Monday!  We’ll be here & I’ll be avoiding potatoes, gravy, & dressing!

PLAY + PROBOT + FOO FIGHTERS + POCKETWATCH = DAVID GROHL

What can’t Dave Grohl do?  This is all stuff he’s done on his own.  The first Foo Fighters album, all Dave Grohl other than one guitar part.  Play is a 23 minute instrumental piece with 7 guitar tracks, 4 drum sets, & I’m not sure about the number of bass tracks.  23 minutes straight on 1 instrument or start all over again.  All finished recording in 3 days!

Pocketwatch I believe, was an album he recorded after Nirvana was no more, around the time of the recording of the first Foo Fighters album.  Probot is a metal album where Dave Grohl played all of the instruments, then sent the songs to his favourite underground metal singers.

How does one person do this while being in 2 of the biggest rock bands of my generation & collaborating with so many other legendary artists on other projects?  This man amazes me & has been my musical idol for a long time!

PLAY   2018

LANGUAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   Listen to the first 3:30 minutes to hear him talk about it, then forward to any part of the song you like.  He also doesn’t know much about piano or other rhythm instruments.

FOO FIGHTERS   1995

PROBOT   2004

POCKETWATCH   1992

He’s also produced an album, introduced me to other artist, played in 3 bands 2 of which were VERY successful, & has been a guest artist on many albums.  He also played drums for Tom Petty on SNL.
