Exercise total for 5 days.

500 Curls w/ 20 pound dumb bells

300 Shoulder raises/Chest presses w/ 10 pound dumb bells

900 Crunches

750 Leg lifts

300 Squats

420 Back flexes

1:20 hour of yoga over 2 days

I just needed a break.  I’m feeling good this week and even upped some of my numbers during my repetitions went up this week.  Just feeling much better physically & mentally.  Muscles are sore but its Friday and it’s a long weekend!  I’ll be good to go next week!  I guess that’s my 2nd full week off this year, I was due.

I can see all of those exercise numbers staying where they are for quite a while.  My left arm is noticeably weaker than my right arm.  I notice it all of the time other than when I’m playing guitar.

I forgot since there are no CFL games this year & I gave up my season tickets.  I used to either take a few cans of food or $20 extra to a game where they have bins out for donations to the food bank.  Kim donated $25 to the food bank earlier this week.  I’m sure we’ll go through our storage unit & donate more clothes this year.

I shouldn’t say we don’t donate.  Kim’s in charge of the money here.  She’ll donate $20 to the legion plus whatever we donate to wear a poppy from November 1st until November 11th.  I always want to give more but we don’t have much more.  I don’t donate since I don’t own a credit card, Kim does from our shared income.  If I was to donate I’d be like Oprah.  “YOU GET $100, YOU GET $100, YOU GET $100, YOU GET $100, etc.”  When I was in the hospital a team of 10 of us raised close to $100,000 4 years for the Canadian Cancer Society.  I’m relatively cheap on most things, if I like what the charity is doing & had a credit card, we’d be seriously in debt FOREVER!

 https://www.youtube.com/embed/pviYWzu0dzk?version=3&rel=1&fs=1&autohide=2&showsearch=0&showinfo=1&iv_load_policy=1&wmode=transparent

Don’t get the idea that we’re going into debt for my hobby.  The guitar coming to me, hopefully sooner than later, is payed for & I’m about half way saved for the 2nd one that I hope to order in February.  Those savings & donating to a few charities won’t sink us.  Other than food, bills, Kim’s clothing, Brewster’s pills & vet bills, music, & guitar maintenance stuff.  We don’t spend money.  Charities often get a donation & if we’re a little tight for cash every once in a while, I just don’t add money to my guitar savings.  Once I get/save enough for my guitar to be ordered & amplifier, I’m done with luxurious purchases for at minimum a decade.

Maybe we’ll find a house next year in our price range?  If we do, the guitar & amplifier get pushed back.  After looking online earlier this week, I’m doubtful, I saw absolutely nothing on the market in our price range in Regina.  Not even something we wouldn’t look at.  I mean zilch, zero, nothing.  We both hope to find a wheelchair accessible house next year.  More than anything that’s easily at the top of our “wish list”.

For the record I’m not getting a Core line PRS, WAY TOO EXPENSIVE!  I have an S2 model on the way here & I’m saving for a different S2.  2nd least expensive type they make other than the SE line from their factory in Indonesia.  Price wise it goes SE, S2, Bolt on necks, Core, Private Stock, & Artists line.

https://www.prsguitars.com/

As of mid-week I started working on 2 other songs along with the other 2.  I was practicing the tremolo picking at the start of the song & Kim obviously didn’t like it.  The door was latched pretty quick.  “THAT’S WHAT YOU GET FOR BUYING ME A 7 STRING GUITAR!  THANK YOU!”

The intro is a little tricky, but it has gotten much better since I’ve been just playing it randomly.

They’re all pretty different.  I can see the Trivium song taking a while & probably the Pearl Jam song since I’ve decided to learn lead guitar.  I’ve never even thought to play lead parts until recently.  I was a singer in a band that learned to play guitar to fill out the sound.  I can say that the Our Lady Peace song is learned & get’s played a lot because it’s fun along with numerous other songs.

I guess “Barstool Prophets” is good music for me to cook to!  I boiled noodles, Kim ran out for an ingredient for the rest of it.

2 back to back Blue Jay games today starting at 2:00 pm & the fridge is full of healthy stuff, condiments, & a little beer.  I’ll have to get rid of a beer or 2 today to free up some space!

Back on track this week.  The news REALLY bummed me out last week.  I got up yesterday & got back into my exercise routine.  I really don’t like wasting week days that aren’t scheduled days off by not exercising.  My food & water consumption didn’t change though, so that’s a bonus.  Yesterday I managed to get a few more crunches in, we’ll see if I can keep that trend up?

This morning was a weird exercise.  I got out of bed when Kim did & I don’t think my body has ever made that much noise!  EVERYTHING was popping & cracking.  Got down on the floor to stretch & do yoga, & again EVERYTHING popped & cracked.  My muscles were VERY tight.  So of course I was an idiot and added to each repetition of lifting weights, not sure I’m there yet.

I wrote a bunch of this & realized that I don’t have to justify my purchases with my money.  I’m saving for that guitar & hope to order it in February since there’s 3-15 month delay on it.  Then I’ll continue saving for the amplifier & footswitch.  I’ll probably have the amplifier before the guitar arrives?

Had I thought this through last year, I’d likely have the amplifier & footswitch by now.  It’s a 50 Watt amplifier that can switch to 25 Watts & 0.5 Watts (quieter/digital) for in an apartment or condo while still producing the same type of sound you’d get from a loud amplifier.  I always wanted a tube amp before, but they were just too much in price for me.  This will be comparable to a tube amp, but still not the same.  It also connects to the internet, that’s not gonna happen here.  I don’t need someone trying to mess with an amplifier!!??!?

https://www.long-mcquade.com/154076/Guitars/Guitar-Amps/Boss/Katana-50-MkII-Combo-Amplifier.htm

https://www.long-mcquade.com/12567/Guitars/Guitar_Effects/Boss/FS-6_-_Dual_Footswitch.htm

If we find a house & are able to sell our condo, those purchases will be pushed back to a more appropriate time.

It’s going to be November soon & in Canada that’s when we pause to honour our veterans for all they’ve sacrificed for us.  I know we’ll be getting a call from the legion asking for a donation.  If a cause I support calls looking for a donation, I’d be more than happy to help out, but I can’t.  I hate that I’m going to have to turn them down because I’m saving my pennies for myself, that’s when I feel greedy, selfish, & ashamed.

Just because I can’t donate financially doesn’t mean we don’t donate.  When I gained weight & couldn’t fit into my clothing it was donated to homeless shelters, the Salvation Army, the Diabetes foundation, a second hand store, I used to donate blood when I could before cancer.  When I lost a bunch of weight we did the same thing again by donating clothes to various charities.

I’ve never had a raspberry beret to donate to a second hand store…

Rough week last week, & got worse when the week ended.  I love that there was a March on Washington, I just hate that it had to happen & it will likely fall on deaf ears, politically.

Stayed up past midnight on Saturday to watch the baseball game I had recorded earlier that day & practice guitar unplugged.  Got up shortly after 7:00 am Sunday & made my food for the week ahead.  With baseball on, I don’t get to practice as much guitar on the weekends.  I watch the games on the couch while casually strumming my acoustic guitar.  The little bit that I got to play electric I focused on a few scales, tremolo picking, & these 2 songs are getting better all the time.  I’m focusing more on the lead part for the chorus of “Alive” since I don’t sing.  If I was singing I’d strum the 4 chords.

This song by Our Lady Peace isn’t nearly as challenging as I anticipated.  It just looked odd at first.

I googled songs with 7 string guitar parts in them to learn.  Trivium, Dream Theater, Korn, Sevendust, etc.  I learn those & songs done in baritone guitar tuning.  I’ve got 2 baritone songs already and one Trivium song, so I’m off to the metal & lead guitar world.  Figured that I don’t just want to do the same stuff I did before cancer & that I should improve my guitar skills.

I’m going bald from my “disappearing hairline” & I’m a little thin on the top back portion of my head.  I hope they meet in the middle or I’ll have a weird stripe of hair in the middle of my head.

The beer sealers we ordered at the beginning of June from amazon got here yesterday.  Now my straps are secured on my guitars.  Just waiting for the guitar I ordered in January and I need to change the strings on other guitars very soon, some of them need a good cleaning too.

S2 Custom 22 Semi-Hollow Body Guitar w/Gig Bag - McCarty Sunburst

What I don’t understand about PRS guitars.  The Canadian dollar is at $0.77 to a full USA dollar.  A core model PRS guitar, made in Maryland, USA (not what I’d ever spend on a guitar) retails for $2300 up in America.  In Canada it’s about $3000 more, so roughly $5300 retail.  That’s pretty accurate, but there is NO WAY I’d come close to spending $5300 on a guitar plus the %11 tax in total here in Saskatchewan!

I hate watching our southern neighbors going through this stuff.

The solo/instrumental album by John Petrucci of Dream Theater is REALLY good & I’m still on an “Opeth” kick, listening to the “Ghost Reveries” album.  I’m liking Rancid, I’m not a huge fan of punk music.  Rancid seem to be right up my alley though!

Kim called the police regarding her stolen bike on Thursday last week.  As you may know, the guy was arrested.  Her phone call was sent to a department (of which I don’t know) there was an answering service & she left a message.  We have yet to hear back, despite my asking her to call again on Monday.

I follow PRS Guitars on Facebook & they’ve been pushing out quite a bit of Private Stock guitars.  That completely makes sense to me.  A person getting a private stock guitar will typically wait 18 months for the guitar from the point they pick out EVERYTHING being used to make it & it costs whatever amount you make it!  I saw a random guy in the USA on good ol’ www.youtube.com, his wife bought him a private stock PRS as a wedding gift, & paid $15,000 for it!  The guitar I ordered is not even close to being that expensive!

I was like a 4 year old on Christmas Eve, Thursday night, I didn’t sleep that well.  Long story, PRS were about to send 2 identical guitars to Australia.  The guy at the music store called them Monday morning & told them my story about the delay before Covid hit.  I guess the sales rep he spoke with is holding back one of the guitars going to Australia for me.  It’s not finished being made yet, but it’s coming!  I’m just happy about their specifications for the wood choice & totally understand the delay, it’s just an odd year.  They were looking for a quality piece of curly maple without any blemishes for the ¼” top of the body.  Their quality control is why I went with PRS.  This is another example of quality over quantity.

S2 Custom 22 Semi-Hollow Body Guitar w/Gig Bag - McCarty Sunburst

They are 10-12 months backordered due to Covid & were looking/waiting for a nice piece of maple for the top of my guitar because the sunburst colour I ordered is a little tricky.  Despite this delay, I’ve been saving up & still plan to order this PRS S2 model in April or May….

This is a VERY odd scale length, & it’ll sound like a 1958 Gibson Les Paul while having a different (better I.M.O.) look & $1000 cheaper.  The Gibson brand name has also lost some of its credibility in the guitar playing community over the last decade or more.  This guitar is also wired better than a Les Paul, in that I can switch either or both pickups from Humbucker (double coil) 1958 pickups to pre-1950 single coil pickups.  Gibson doesn’t make coil splitting pickups.

Kim’s fine with me saving for this amplifier & footswitch for later on next year.  It’s not completely digital or analog.  It’s an affordable practice amplifier hybrid.  If we need cash it will come out of the savings for this…

https://www.long-mcquade.com/154076/Guitars/Guitar-Amps/Boss/Katana-50-MkII-Combo-Amplifier.htm

https://www.long-mcquade.com/12567/Guitars/Guitar_Effects/Boss/FS-6_-_Dual_Footswitch.htm

Kim’s on the fence about me spending money on this, yet I’ve cut out EVERYTHING other than food & water for the guitar, amplifier, & footswitch.

With those purchases, I’ll be as happy as a pig in mud for at least a decade, if not much, much longer.  I looked at some other stuff, but nothing really appealed to me.  Maybe something small will someday, but those will be my last big hobby purchases.  Kim says I keep changing my mind, I think I’m very consistent on these 2 purchases.  I’ve researched the crap out of them & I know exactly what to expect from both.  Every time I look at one of them, I find a little bonus piece about them.

On the upside our ‘niece’ & ‘nephew’ were with us Saturday afternoon.  We made bubbles, picked flowers, coloured, did assorted arts & crafts had pizza, ice cream, they rode around in my wheelchair, & checked out a little “Paw Patrol”.  She’ll be 7 in October & he turned 2 in May.  He’s busy & wants to check out everything.  I followed him around & answered questions for him.  Our ‘nephew’ got me twice on Monday despite not being here.  He was checking out my guitars.  He turned my amplifier all the way up, I didn’t notice it until I played one note & just about peed.  Later on I grabbed a different guitar, tuned it with my silent tuner on, turned off the tuner to play it, & no sound came out of the speaker.  I thought my guitar had some electrical issue?  Nope that was a guitar he played with & turned the volume on the guitar to 0.

Sunday we went to or friends’ place for a BBQ & visit in the backyard.  Nice relaxing day & Brewster loves being outside on a lawn & leash free.  He was falling asleep on my lap on the way home at 7:15 pm.  He’s getting old!  Nowadays I fill my pill capsules for the week, then move onto his.  Always making sure I don’t mix them up!

I did play my buddy’s new Gretsch hollow body guitar on Sunday.  Oh that is a sweet guitar!  I personally don’t want to spend money on a full size hollow body guitar, but it was a really nice guitar!

There are only two other guitars I’d like, but are far beyond what I would pay for them!  A Mark Tremonti signature PRS in the brown colour that he plays on occasion.  https://www.prsguitars.com/index.php/electrics/model/mark_tremonti_signature_2020 & a Dave Grohl signature Gibson 335 (hollow body, DG-335)   https://reverb.com/p/gibson-dave-grohl-signature-dg-335.  Those are my “never gonna happen” guitars.

Watch this video from the 8:20 minute mark & it shows how great these people are & what they did with their earnings from the 4 day online guitar clinic!

Kim’s hoping we find a house next year.  As long as this virus deal is over, I’m all for putting our condo on the market again.  Our mortgage will be just under $200,000 by then which will make a difference, but I don’t think it will make a big enough difference.  The biggest issue is that it has to be wheelchair accessible.

We saw one last year but the housing market in Regina is weird/difficult if you’re trying to sell a condo such as we are.  Far too many cheaply built, new, vacant condos out there for ½ the price of what we paid for this place.  We’ll be looking for something under $410,000 that is move in ready.  My magic 8 ball tells me the outcome is not good.  I think us moving is just as unlikely as me getting either of those signature guitars, never going to happen.

As for practicing guitar I’m good & just working on learning songs I like & that are fun to play.  Even have a handful of stuff for my brother’s band to use & expand on.  Other than that these will be my focus until I learn the next batch of songs.

And I try to always go through scales, finger/picking exercises, & other songs I’ve learned.  The more I play a song, the better it sounds!  Like this song is already good enough, but the more I play it the more automatic it becomes.

Even by Wednesday this week I had some decent energy.  I’m pretty sure those new night time anti-depressants are doing the trick.  Pretty consistent week for getting up by 7:30-8:00 & getting things done.  Might also be that I don’t go to the washroom 4 times a night to pee?  I’m on a medication for my bladder as well.  Before it was a rush to the bathroom & very often.  I still drink 3-5 liters of water a day.  I go to the washroom a lot but not nearly as much & it’s not nearly as urgent.  The downside to my bladder pills is that if I don’t drink enough water, I get dry mouth in a bad way.

I accidentally dropped my new sleeping pill under the bed Wednesday night.  I was far too lazy to look for whatever pill I dropped & went to bed.  I found out the hard way it was my sleeping pill………….awake until shortly after 1:00 am, but out of bed by 7:50 am.

I really don’t like day time baseball games.  One on Wednesday starting at 11:00 am & 2 games on Thursday starting at 11:00 am.  That means I didn’t play my guitar on Thursday & only a small amount on Wednesday.  I just unplug or don’t play after 8:30 pm since were in an apartment style condo.  Just watching TV makes me anxious.  I feel like I should be doing something, I get fidgety after 30 minutes.

Kim called the police yesterday.  She was forwarded to a messaging service for the evidence department.  So no word yet on a retrieval of the bike?  She also doesn’t see the point in getting a new bike this year.  She says she won’t have much time to ride it since she’ll probably put it away come mid-September.

We had a nice visit with our friends from Edmonton Wednesday night.  Haven’t seen them in 2 years & a lot has happened since then!  Good to catch up.  No we didn’t visit here.  Too many seniors in our building, instead my parents were kind enough to let us use their back yard tented patio area to visit outside while distancing.  They picked up their supper, we got ours, had supper & a lengthy chat while Brewster got to be free in the backyard.  Brewster was quite tired.  He didn’t get out of bed until 2:30 pm yesterday when I woke him up as I checked on him.  He moved from our bed to his kennel when we got up in the morning.

I’ve been anxiously waiting for this day.  One of us should get an email later on today letting us know my new guitar is here!  If it gets here today, I’ll be watching baseball tonight while playing it unplugged!  This might call for some rum on the rocks?!?!  I really don’t like playing guitar with any alcohol in my system though.

Strap locks shouldn’t be a big deal on a PRS, apparently the strap buttons are quite large.  I should be getting the beer bottle sealers that we ordered in June this month from amazon.  Then I just need new strings for 3 guitrars here.  I’ve already done my acoustic & my 7 string seems fine for now.  So if I do the other 3 I should be good for quite a while!

From the looks of things the amplifier is looking more & more like it won’t happen,  just so we can pay into my Retirement Disability Savings Plan (RDSP).  I’ve got an amplifier so I’d rather buy the guitar & put money away for when I’m 60.  The amplifier would be really good, but if I have to pick one, it’s this guitar hands down!

I guess there are money issues when you have money (I wouldn’t know personally) & when you don’t?

I thought this would be a fairly straight forward easy song…………OH HOW I WAS WRONG!  Weird tuning, chords I’ve never seen before, layered guitar tracks, & mostly individual notes throughout.  Good song to learn different stuff from though!

I wen’t deeper into the guitar part since I don’t sing anymore.

Constantly playing stuff I’ve learned.

Just started learning this the other day

…& always playing stuff from the 2nd, 3rd, & 4th Foo Fighters albums.

If this isn’t clear enough for EVERYONE than you’re just difficult to deal with.  Fall is coming & so is the flu season with a good chance of a 2nd wave of the virus.

Friday got better as it progressed.  Kim went to the police station to fill out some paper work.  She had all the stuff they needed & in the brief time she was there, the officer told her the guy was arrested on multiple break in’s on Thursday night.  If we don’t get her bike back, I hope she takes the money I’ve saved up for a guitar & gets a bike or anything else she wants.  I’ve decided I’ll continue saving for the guitar & amplifier, it’ll just take a little bit longer.

https://www.prsguitars.com/index.php/electrics/model/s2_mccarty_594

I should get my ordered PRS guitar on Friday or Saturday.  I’ll post a photo on here & a reaction video on Facebook when I first see it.  January 15th-August 21st or 22nd feels like forever!  You’ll get the photo & video next Tuesday if all goes as planned.  It was supposed to be here in April.  When I got the email on March 2nd that it would be delayed, it hurt me a bit……on the inside.  I felt like a 4 year old on Christmas Eve.  Now I’ve been feeling like a 4 year old since mid-last week.  I hope everything works out but its 2020 everything is a gamble this year.

https://www.prsguitars.com/index.php/electrics/model/s2_custom_22_semi_hollow_2020

When I was at my psychiatrist on Tuesday, I told him that it takes me multiple hours to fall asleep.  I’m on an anti-depressant in the evening called Quetiapine.  It’s a slow releasing type that should help with my sleep, it doesn’t though.  I take my pills around 9:00 pm and go to bed by 10:30pm at the latest.  I’m typically awake until 1:00 am or 2:00 am.

He prescribed me 25 mg of a different type of Quetiapine to take with my other evening pills, now that I’m on those, my sleep pattern is much more regular.  I’m asleep before midnight & I’m usually awake by 7:30 am.

Kim ordered a scale, before her bike was stolen.  It’s a scale that does a plethora of things & tells you your wait.  Like a Fit Bit tells you everything & some tell you the time.  I haven’t used the scale yet.  It has sensors to put your feet on & tells you your water weight, bone weight, muscle weight, fat weight, metabolic rate, your actual weight, & probably a bunch of other stuff?

Put me on a camera I freeze, audio is OK & I never listen to it more than 3 times.  This guy NAILS Red Hot Chili Peppers on bass & drums with no forearms!  AWESOME!

Now when I’m playing guitar, I just play what I like, choose to learn a new song, try different techniques or tunings, or just repeat some stuff that needs work.  It’s not really about how many songs I know, it’s more about continuing to learn & however I choose to go about.  I look at music for some songs & think to myself “Not yet” or other songs & think “I like listening to it, but that’s useless to learn from” after I’ve played 75% of it in 5 minutes.

I used to play & sing this song…

I can’t sing at the moment so I dug a little further into the guitar part.  I sing it in my head & think to myself “I should figure out that little piece to add some of the vocal melody on guitar”.  So I’m OK on guitar, I’m not a ‘shredder’ like the guys in Metallica or Megadeth but there’s a lot of stuff to learn no matter how good you are, or what your style of playing is.

Ended up playing this yesterday…

I heard this album through a friend of mine in high school that lived around the corner from my parents’ house in 1995.  I don’t think I’ve ever played a song by them?  I’m learning the lead part that goes throughout most of the song & the chorus chords to throw in there to change it up.

Last night I was relaxing & watching the baseball game.  We have no children so it was quiet.  Middle of the game Kim blurts out “Oh, I need to learn ‘Happy Birthday’ on an instrument for tomorrow morning”.  I replied “This is like having a kid blurt out ‘I have a project due tomorrow that I haven’t even started’”.  I stopped the game, looked up “Happy Birthday”, and learned it in 5 minutes.  I called for her “Grab the tuner, come in here & I’ll teach you “Happy Birthday” on your acoustic guitar”.  Kim hasn’t touched her guitar since at least 2006?  She got frustrated & gave up.  I’m hard on myself but patient when teaching others.  She opted to relearn it on a keyboard on her phone.

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

When you think you’re going to have a quiet weekend & you get a late Saturday morning phone call from your mother saying your brother is in the hospital, about to have surgery for appendicitis.  All went well!

He’ll be fine but will stay there overnight and be released today.  I’d much prefer it to be me, then I wouldn’t worry as much.

HONORABLE MENTIONS (Really nothing bad about these albums)

Dead Sara – Temporary Things Taking up Space EP

If these songs were a part of a full album, it would easily be number 1 on my list

Dead Sara – Anybody “Acoustic” Single

Easily my favourite song of the year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tesseract – Sonder

Alter Bridge – Live at The Royal Albert Hall

The stereo audio is not very good, you can barely hear the orchestra.  The surround mix on the blu-ray is MUCH better.

Pretty Vicious – Move single

Pentatonix – Top Pop, Vol. 1

Tremonti – A Dying Machine

Chromeo – Head over Heels

CONCERTS I SAW THIS YEAR

Big Wreck (Regina)

Comedian Jim Jeffries (Regina)

Foo Fighters (Calgary)

Comedian Craig Ferguson (Regina)

Boney M (Regina)

Usually I head up to Saskatoon to see Trivium on tour.  They skipped Saskatchewan completely this time.  Typical Canadian during a North American tour is, Montreal, Toronto, & maybe Vancouver now.  The fact that I got to see all of this stuff live is pretty cool.  Only had to go to Calgary to see Queens of the Stone Age with Royal Blood & Foo Fighters.

If I had to pick my favourite concerts of the year, Queens of the Stone Age & Boney M. would both take the win.  Could be that it was my first time seeing both bands live.  Boney M’s rhythm section was INCREDIBLE!!!!!!

Here’s what to expect in 2019.  Big Wreck, Alter Bridge, Anthrax, Devin Townsend, Dream Theater (already preordered for release Feb. 22), Megadeth, Tool, Lamb of God, Mark Morton (Lamb of God guitarist) preorder January 11, full release March 1st, Rob Zombie, Slipknot, Chevelle, & In Flames (preordered available January 11).  Likely more, that’s just off of the top of my head.

I’m really excited for the ‘In Flames’ album, full release March 1st.

A baseball player is offered more than what he asked for from his previous team as a free agent, $300,000,000 over 10 years.  More than that was offered & he turned it down.  He must really not like where he was, I doubt any other team will offer him $10,000,000 a year to play a game for a living?  Once he hits the age of 30 or shortly thereafter you see almost all players start to decline athletically.  The back end (the last 3-5 years) of $300,000,000 will be terrible if he gets that deal.

I fell asleep to “Myles Kennedy” his solo album “Year of the Tiger”

I exercised to “A Perfect Circle” the new album “Eat the Elephant”

Breakfast I listened to “The Pretty Reckless” the album “Who You Selling For?”

Weekly exercise total; 1200 pushup, 800 leg lifts, 500 crunches, 400 squats, 300 tricep pushups, & 200 back flexes.

WOW I need to shower.  This is what happens when you get your butt out of the comfy bed & just get moving.  I’m really trying to cut down on my rest time between sets.

I added quite a bit of sets/numbers per set.  Almost more than I can handle, but I did them!  240 pushups a day, 160 leg lifts a day, & 80 squats a day & the regular amount of other stuff.  I get so tired after though.  I hope that means I’m doing something right!

I get it if you can’t do that other stuff is & should be prioritized to suit your life.  I don’t have a paid job or kids.  Right there my life is different.  Before all of this cancer nonsense hit me, I never bothered to exercise.  Now I like it & it’s very necessary that I do it.

I was lazy on Monday & Tuesday, I slept in until 9:00 am both days.  I much prefer getting up at 7:30 am or at least by 8:30 am & getting all of it out of the way.  Kim always wakes me up, I have a tendency lately to roll over & stay in the comfy bed.

This extra exercise takes me longer than what I was doing.  Now it’s a solid 2.5 hours or 3 hours.  I know it will get easier, but right now I think to myself “WHAT WERE YOU THINKING YOU IDIOT?????????????????”

BARSTOOL PROPHETS

This album is on iTunes if you’re interested.  It was released in 1995 & I somehow got it, likely on Columbia House or BMG.  There is a 2nd album called “Last of the Big Game Hunters”, I can’t find it anywhere now.  I really wanted to go to the show when they were touring for the 2nd album, but it was in a bar & I was underage.  The album I have is titled “Crank”.  I think most of the songs from the 2nd album are on www.youtube.com.  I saw a few there but didn’t really search them all out.  These guys are from Ontario, Canada.  I don’t know much about them but I really like this album………

THIS IS THE SONG THAT HOOKED ME!!!  The video for this song was on Much Music a bit.  Creepy lyrics but I assure you Kim’s OK.

There are quite a few songs from their 2nd album “Last of the Big Game Hunters” on www.youtube.com.  We’ll discover this album together!

I may have to look this up on www.amazon.ca  $58 for a new copy?!?!!?!!  Nope!  Maybe a used copy for $16?

I can’t wait for this album!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Concept albums must be tricky to write.  One subject throughout the entire album can get boring like the “Muse” album “Drones” which has all but lost my attention.  “Our Lady Peace” made a concept album “Spiritual Machines”.  I didn’t read the book in question, they made the album interesting enough for me to listen to it, & I was much younger.

So MLB decided to not show the Blue Jay game on Wednesday, a Facebook only game, WHY?  Doesn’t the MLB or Rogers Communications want our money?  There are no more sellouts at the Rogers Center (Sky Dome), at the moment 20,000 tickets per game seems to be the norm now, last year it would usually be near a sellout 42,000 – 45,000 was almost a guarantee for every game.  Put the game on everything, not just the radio show & Facebook, I don’t even have Serious XM to listen to radio, or radio of any kind.  Worst part is the highlights made it look like the Jays put on a home run show scoring 15 runs on Wednesday to sweep the 3 game series.

Rookie Teoscar Hernandez was called up from the AAA team last week.  On Wednesday he hit a 2 run home run & a 2 run triple.  Please don’t do this again MLB?  I’m not about to watch a game on Facebook!  Not EVERYONE is on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat or whatever else there is.  I’m on Facebook & mostly email.  All of this social media (Facebook anyways) needs the user to have an email account.  Maybe put it on the Jays website?  I didn’t even know I could watch it on Facebook until the game was over.  Maybe the analysts should have mentioned that the day before?

I love the new Pentatonix album!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I fell asleep to “Metallica” the album “Kill ‘em All”

I exercised to “Stone Temple Pilots” the album “Stone Temple Pilots (2018)”

I had to clean up after Brewster, just missed his pad.  Washed my hands & had breakfast while listening to “Queens of the Stone Age” the album “Songs for the Deaf”

Exercise weekly total; 700 pushups, 490 leg lifts, 350 crunches, 210 tricep pushups, 210 squats, & 140 back flexes.  Odd week 1 day of no exercise & 1 day of half the amount of repetitions.

My father’s cousin died on Tuesday.  Kim & I would see him sleeping in his wheelchair when I was on the 2nd floor of the WRC.  He was born with Down syndrome.  Sad to see anybody die but his quality of life wasn’t that great.

We met a guy named Nick while I was in the Wascana Rehabilitation Center, super nice guy.  I’m pretty sure he wasn’t mentally handicapped but he was born physically handicapped.  He was in music therapy as well.  He recorded an album with help from the same music therapist I saw for a bit.  He played the drums on his album they made, she sang on it.  As far as the bass & guitar, I assume it was the music therapist.  I was impressed he could play the drums!  My kick drum leg wasn’t all that strong, I could get it to the kick drum, I just couldn’t keep my foot down.  It would hit the drum twice & my left hand is all but useless.  He probably doesn’t get out of his wheelchair much since he is severely physically handicapped.

He would see Kim & I in the cafeteria for lunch & always come to chat with us.  If he & I were having a conversation, Kim was our interpreter I was/am hard to understand & so was he.

He’s a really joyful guy to be around.  The rest of the people I saw & heard were very bitter about being there or whatever it was that put them there.  I was more on the bitter side of things.  I tried to keep it in.  I really leaned on Kim.

When I do my exercise “every morning”, lately, at least this year, I think to myself “Hurry up, do more, this is affecting a PILE of other people, not just Kim & I!  Hurry up & get better!”  That’s just the pressure I put on myself.  Nobody has ever said to me that I’m not trying hard enough, just me.

GRUNGE

I was born in 1980.  My parents weren’t into the GLAM metal scene going on in L.A.  It was basically a free pass, I got to choose what I wanted to hear.  Mom was into pop music & dad was into “Dire Straits”, “Jimmy Buffet” & whatever else popped up.  I do remember really liking “Fine Young Cannibals”.  I bought that CD just before I was diagnosed with brain cancer.  I was in high school when the entire “grunge” deal went down.  I was 8 or 9 years late to that party.  Now that’s my go to music.  I also played flute in the high school band & was recruited to join the choir, they needed more male voices for the 4 part harmonies.  When “grunge” was all the rage in the early 1990s, I couldn’t stand it.  I was really into Canadian bands who played the same type of music.  “I Mother Earth”, “The Inbreds”, “Our Lady Peace”, “Matthew Good Band”, “The Tea Party”, etc.  I ended up singing for what was basically a cover band.

I was at a bar with Chris Messer from the call center I worked at.  He was also a singer in a band.  He heard “Alice in Chains” playing over the P.A.  Yes, “Man in the Box” he turned to me & said “You guys should do this song.”  I replied “That vocal is very high.  I don’t know if I can hit those notes?”  After numerous rehearsals I did it!

Originally I was a 2nd bass singer, the really low notes in the 4 part harmonies in choir.  I think that song changed my vocal range.  After that song, my voice was going through a 2nd puberty.  I’d be speaking & my voice would crack.  Then I became a grunge fan.  Grunge & rock with some Metallica was what we played.

Our goal was to play “Beerfest” put on by the Engineering Society.  500 people, I found it nerve racking to play in front of that many people….for a bit.  Once we had played a few songs & we were in a groove all of the anxiety went away.  I was really into the Canadian response of grunge though at the time.  I had a lot of the grunge albums, didn’t listen to them much though, until needed.  Somehow I bought a metal, Into Eternity, album before I was into American grunge…..

We didn’t play all of the songs mentioned, that’s more of just what I was into at the time.  Our motto was “If somebody isn’t bleeding by the end of the night, we’re not trying hard enough”.  That was a weird way of gauging how the shows went.

Will Axl Rose continue with AC/DC?

Yes, I watched “Justice League” again this week over 2 days this week.  Critics hated it, SURPRISE!  That’s really just a fancy title for someone who gets paid to watch movies if you ask me.  I guess I would be a terrible movie critic, since I enjoy the DC movies.  Yes I like the Marvel movies too.

I’m all about “Laid to Rest” with “Lamb of God”

I fell asleep to “Our Lady Peace” the album “Somethingness”, followed by “Metallica” the album “Load”

I forgot to charge the remote for the stereo last night.  I exercised in silence.

Weekly total, 4 day total; 800 pushups, 560 leg lifts, 400 crunches, 240 squats, 240 tricep pushups, & 160 back flexes.

I was sick Sunday night until 4:00 am or so.  Kim braved the storm for me to get some medicine.  I was fine on Monday, just really tired.  Waste of a day!

Tuesday, I was fine & got my exercises done ASAP as usual, had my typical breakfast of a hardboiled egg, veggie juice, rice cake, black coffee, & about a liter of water.  That’s breakfast for me 5 days a week.  Then I continue to drink at least 2.8 liters of water every day.  Yesterday I had just over 4 liters of water.  No wonder I pee so often?

Nobody just wakes up & decides “I think today I’ll do 200 pushups!”  It’s a slow building process.  I started off doing 30 pushups on my knees.  One day I said to myself “Let’s see if I can figure out how to do them on my feet, with my toes so curled that I can’t bend them?”  I can’t even curl my toes with my hands, so when I do pushups, it’s also a matter of balancing on my feet.  At first it was near impossible.  Now it has just become routine.

All of this exercise I’m doing is so that I can one day walk.  Remember, I’ve got the time to do this.  You likely have other priorities, kids, work, etc.  Exercising is my job, which I don’t get paid for!  Other than disability pay & insurance.

When I find something that I’m doing is up to my standards, I increase the number slowly.  Like adding 5 whatever to a set.  EVERYTHING started at a low level & slowly increased.  Nothing ever started at 8 repetitions of 25, I had to build up to that number.

I went into the hospital at 265, ate crap, gained 8” on my waist, now as of Tuesday I’m 220lbs.  Anything lower than 210 or 215 would make me look like a bag of bones!

I’m not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but I have to adapt to regular life.  Baseball is more of a mental sport where you have to think about what is going to happen & what does each player need to do.  I played third base commonly called “The Hot Corner” so I would think & then react quickly if the ball was hit in my direction.  So in that way baseball taught me how to think & adapt when needed.  I had a roughly 90’ between myself & the batter.  I didn’t know if it would be hit to me or how hard the batter would hit it?  Just react & adapt.

FOO FIGHTERS

I was slowly getting into “grunge” music, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, etc.  I went out & bought Foo Fighters’ 2nd album “The Colour & The Shape”.  I was hooked.  This was in 1998, the album actually came out in May of 1997.  They released their 3rd album in November of 1999, my Grandmother died of breast cancer on December 5th of that year.  Instead of writing a final exam in University, I would drive to Moose Jaw (45 minutes away) & back, blasting the album “There is Nothing Left to Lose”.  That’s when they became one of my 2 favourite bands.  I listened to that album twice a day (if not more) front to back.  From then on I’ve purchased all of their albums on release day.  Of course I went back after buying the 2nd album & bought the first album ASAP.  From that point on it was “What else is out there that I need to hear?”  So here’s one song from each album of Foo Fighters, in order of release….
