Well after the marathon launch party on Thursday from PRS, they no longer offer this guitar in this red finish.

This will be my next purchase.

I checked out the Epiphone Prophecy series with a red burst Epiphone Les Paul that has special designed, active, Fishman pickups with coil splitting & the option to put them in vintage mode or modern mode.  I want to branch out from the Epiphone brand & Les Paul style of guitar.

I’ve chosen 2 other brands with a different EVERYTHING & any way you split it I don’t have the savings for any guitar right now, & whatever I can rake together goes to that pretty blue PRS S2 McCarty 594.  I have secretly always wanted a white guitar with black accents in a different shape.

I REALLY like the Schecter.  That Schecter (white) guitar gets me REALLY excited & should be the same price as the discontinued red PRS SE for that model line, but the McCarty 594 takes priority now.  I’m cautious about having too many guitars, this isn’t a big space.  If it weren’t for the type of stands/wall mounts I have, I would have had to stop a few guitars ago.  I guess this is me “thinking out loud” but it’s definitely desired!  I just want to play more often & get better than I was before cancer…to be continued further on this post.

I never thought I’d say this.  Squier came out with a REALLY cool guitar last week that’s in between $600-$700 after tax.  Cool & VERY different pickup configuration, VERY affordable, roasted maple neck & fret board, a REALLY nice/unique colour, I think I saw somewhere that it has Stainless Steel frets & it does have a flatter fretboard than most Fenders & Squiers.  I’ve often thought I should get a Stratocaster but none of them have ever really appealed to me, until this release last week!  I prefer this guitar over the Schecter Tempest!  This is totally different from anything I own, the Schecter Tempest sounds great & looks great but would just be icing on the cake and sound similar to a Les Paul.  This Squier Stratocaster would do the blues/jazz thing & be a fancy tool for me too.  This is easily my last purchase after the PRS S2 McCarty 594.  I’ve never been a Stratocaster guy until I saw this last week & fell in love with it!

Even I’m thinking “WHOA, ‘limits’ dude, limits!”  Sure they’re all in different tunings, different colours, shapes but that’s more than enough guitars to maintain?  Probably sounds excessive to others, but it’s my hobby for multiple hours a day after I exercise.  I’m not saying PRS or Epiphone are releasing poor quality guitars, they’re great!  I don’t want all of my guitars to be made by the same company.

I play a LOT of guitar.  3-6 ½ hours a day.  I’m not great but there is improvement, at least that’s what my mother tells me (I think she has to say that by law of motherhood?).  I’m constantly learning about the inner workings of a guitar as well as music theory & songs.  These nice looking guitars just make want to play more than I already do & constantly get better.  I look forward to finishing my exercises each day so that I have ample time to play guitar.  I don’t watch TV usually & if I do, I sit down with my acoustic guitar to continue working on something that I kind of know & can get through without watching my fingers.

A $10,000 guitar!!!!!!!!!  Good grief!  That’s why I’ll never buy a Gibson Les Paul, a Core PRS, or a “king of the heap” Fender guitar.  $3000 is atrocious to me.  I’ve never spent $3000 on a single guitar and I never plan to!

I had a phone appointment last week with my psychiatrist.  From the sound of his questions, that office is swamped with people dealing with depression & anxiety.  Can’t say I blame anyone for feeling that way.  These are odd times to say the least, but we need to remember there’s a light at the end of the tunnel.  We may not know what that light will look like, but it’s there.  The weird thing is, is that we’re all in this together but have to stay apart to get through this.  I hope that EVERYONE is doing the same thing & are focused on getting through this.

We’re still within the 30 day trial period of 2021, I think a refund/return shouldn’t be a problem at this point, or should we tough it out?  Who do I speak with & where is customer service?

I have to say that my exercises are REALLY hard on me.  I’ve had more afternoon naps this year already than I had during all of 2020.  My exercise increased at the start of 2021, the news is just blah, TV doesn’t really keep me entertained, & I sometimes lack the energy to have a productive time playing guitar during the week lately.  That being said, I spent all weekend in our office/computer room/guitar room.  Kim was on a mission to paint what was left of our suite.  I stayed out of the way.  What am I gonna help with?  I guess I could paint the bottom half of a wall?  I’d likely just be in the way.

I got up just after 7:00 am on Monday, had my breakfast & felt energized even after my exercise!  Monday night I managed to get Kim to take a breather and not worry about painting the wall behind the stove, which is all she has left to paint.  She hasn’t stopped anything since we got up on December 26th!  She’s AMAZING!

I got a price on the Schecter Tempest & its WAY more than I want to spend.  The Squier Stratocaster is the winner hands down!  I don’t own a Stratocaster, I own a Fender Telecaster with 1 single coil pickup & a lipstick pickup, it’s a FANTASTIC guitar, but the Stratocaster is a totally different beast.  The PRS S2 McCarty 594 followed by the Squier Stratocaster will conclude my guitar purchasing for sure!  I’m out of room after those 2 guitars, I’ll have all of the different sounds that I want to hear, & I’m tired of searching for different sounds.  “I like it, I love it, I (don’t) need more of it”.  The Stratocaster model isn’t available until June 8th, which is fine.  I’m already in the long haul for the PRS guitar, the Squier will happen afterwards.  I never expected Squier to outdo Fender, EVER!  The Squier 2021 models in general were FAR more impressive than the more expensive Fender counterpart for me!  Import guitars are definitely getting better!  The really nice thing about this Stratocaster is that it will likely be the most affordable guitar I own while having a TON of stuff you’ll typically see on a $2000 + guitar.  If the Squier goes out of production…oh well, the saved money can go to something more important than a guitar.

See what happens when a rock, metal, classical, jazz, blues music fan is married to a country music fan.  While she was painting on Sunday, she was listening to country Christmas music on iTunes.

AHA!  Skip to the 10 minute mark where she mentions that multiple guitars are tools for a guitar player not replacements.  A TON of guitar players think this way!  Here’s video proof that I’m not crazy!

You’d think I’d be sad about finishing my guitar purchasing journey but you’d be absolutely wrong.  It was never a goal to have that many guitars, it was ALWAYS more about finding different sounds.  I’m actually relieved that I’ll have a small group of individual sounding guitars.  I don’t want to be a master of one style and likely never would be.  I’d rather be a jack of all trades & be versatile in my playing.  That is THE reason for different guitars & different tunings, for me.  A Telecaster, Les Paul, a PRS, a 7 string, an Explorer, or a Stratocaster will NEVER sound the same.  Even with my modeling amplifier each guitar sounds different.

This is the guitar I bought myself on December 14th.  It’s a double cut Epiphone Les Paul.  This is the guitar I’ve nicknamed “Wannabe” since it looks a LOT like the shape of a PRS guitar.  My guitars all have nicknames but I call them what they are by shape or brand.  Please remember that I don’t take for granted that I’m fortunate enough to buy these guitars, and I would NEVER expect anyone to purchase a guitar for me, although 4 ½ of my guitars were gifts, so I’m very lucky right there.

T**** keeps saying he doesn’t want to be compared to Richard Nixon & that name is not to be uttered in the White House.  OK, but he hired Roger Stone during his campaign to the 2016 election.  Roger Stone has a tattoo on his back of Richard Nixon’s face.  Seems more than a bit odd to me, but I don’t understand or agree with 99.9% of what T**** says.  I’m anxious to see the day my news feed isn’t jam packed with T**** news.

I’m not going to claim this as my year, I did that last January and it worked for me but it SO didn’t work out for most people, my bad.  My personal mantra for this year is “Work harder, learn more, be a better person & continue to play hard”.

I got up early, for a guy with no children, on Sunday.  Got my eggs hard boiled for the week & my vegetable juice made for the week.  Then I bolted into this room with some Saskatoon berry tea and learned some “Alice in Chains” & Swedish melodic death metal from “In Flames”.  That makes 3 straight days of tea, Saturday, Sunday, & 2 on Monday.  I think I’m ready to get older…minus the death metal thing!?

Then I just kept playing EVERYTHING I had learned but need to keep working on.  I went through almost EVERYTHING a couple times & it took me all weekend!

“Opeth” seemed like the right choice to fall asleep to Monday night.

I fall asleep to “Opeth” & the first thing I see on Facebook is my guitar dealer playing his song “Timeless Winter”

Definitely a possibility?  Washington D.C. is prepared for a war.

500 Curls w/ 20 pound dumb bells

300 Shoulder raises/Chest presses w/ 10 pound dumb bells

900 Crunches

900 Leg lifts

300 Squats

450 Back flexes

1:00 hour of yoga over 2 days

To be clear about this, I don’t have a home studio.  I have no camera, cell phone, or audio recording device.  If I come up with a good sounding guitar line, I play it many times to remember it.  “The Beatles” only recorded stuff if they could remember it the next day, so I kind of operate the same way…I just don’t sound like The Beatles.  Any photos or videos on here or Facebook are courtesy of Kim & her cell phone.

I was missing a sleeping pill last night.  I take 2 different pills, one to make me fall asleep faster than my typical 3 or 4 hours of tossing & turning in bed.  The other keeps me asleep.  We missed getting a refill yesterday on the pill that keeps me asleep.  I woke up close to 3:00 am & finally decided to give up on trying to fall asleep at 5:00 am & got up to do my exercises.

My guitar came in Tuesday afternoon.  First impressions, DAMN it’s pretty!  I’ve honestly never played a guitar right out of the box that needs no adjustment.  I tuned it and it was ready to go.  Even just the tuning buttons were INCREDIBLY smooth.  I had HIGH expectations for it, & the S2 PRS greatly exceeded them!

Luckily I missed recording the baseball game Tuesday evening.  I caught the last 2 innings since I was busy playing my new guitar.  After my exercises are done & I’ve showered, I play it all of the time.

I was just about to play guitar after my shower on Tuesday & figured I should check my email.  I had an email confirming my guitar was in & ready for me to pick up.  My brother picked me up & we went to the store.  I tuned it & I’ve been playing it as much as possible since.  Playing it (unplugged) even while watching Blue Jays baseball in the evening.  I hate having to stop playing it!  I wish you could see it in person, the photo just doesn’t compare.

I’ve played 3 guitars in my life that made me think “Why aren’t all guitars made this way?”  My friend’s hollow body Gretsch guitar in the summer, my Epiphone 7 string that Kim got me for my 40th birthday at the end of January, & my new PRS S2.  The hype is real!!!!!

…and now I’d like to introduce you to “Sunny”!  PRS S2 Semi-hollow Custom.

Having this PRS S2 Custom 22 only solidifies my desire for the S2 McCarty 594.  Last guitar purchase, followed by that amplifier & footswitch.

If you care to watch.  These are the different bridges they use on guitars at PRS, as shown by Paul Reed Smith.  Sunny has a tremolo bridge, and the one I plan to order has a 2 piece stop tail bridge.

If we find a house next year, the amplifier & footswitch are put on hold.  Well come June 1st of 2021 EVERYTHING stops for the hope of finding a house!  The amplifier & footswitch will have to wait.

If I ever got my hands on a Core Tremonti PRS with a HUGE (90% off) discount, that would be hard to pass up.  This S2 PRS is beautiful.  I’m over the moon with everything on this guitar!  Here’s that SUPER nice Mark Tremonti Core PRS, not in the typical black.

A Core PRS goes for $3,800 US, which is $6,574 + tax in Canada.  I used to say $5000 was my limit for a guitar, not anymore.  It’s far less than that or even the USA price for Core model, I just paid my limit for a guitar.  The final order is less expensive than what I have, it’s still very close to my limit.

“Sunny” is a lower priced S2 PRS guitar.  The quality is unmatched to any guitar I’ve ever played.  The downside & the upside of it is that we paid a lot for it & it REALLY impresses me.  So it’s VERY nice but it does have a large price tag.  One more S2 and I’m literally spent!

I do watch some TV other than baseball.  The Ellen Degeneres Show, A Late Show with Stephen Colbert, & about 3 other scripted shows that aren’t on TV right now.  Prodigal Son, The Resident, & Mom.  No matter what show I’m watching, there’s a guitar in my hands!

Why is Donald Trump EVERYWHERE?  If Biden wins the election, things could get messy when he moves into the White House.

This week I’ve been playing stuff I know the basic chord progression of while making it more distinct playing lead stuff instead on the new guitar “Sunny”.

I’ve been listening to a 20th anniversary reissue of the first self-titled Into Eternity album that I got on CD.  “Into Eternity” describe themselves as extreme progressive metal.  I think of them as death metal meets the harmonies of “Queen”, that’s HIGH-PRAISE in my books.  Good luck finding a CD other than through the Regina based band that until recently only had the files for the album.  Into Eternity are the Regina heroes that are still underground despite having toured or played with big name acts such as “Motorhead”, “Megadeth”, “Lamb of God”, “Opeth” & I believe “Dream Theater”.  I thik it was last year or 2018 they released their 6th studio album.  The last 5 albums should be available everywhere.  I bought 3 of them at HMV when it was open & managed to get the 6th album on amazon where you can find all of their albums now!

Back on track this week.  The news REALLY bummed me out last week.  I got up yesterday & got back into my exercise routine.  I really don’t like wasting week days that aren’t scheduled days off by not exercising.  My food & water consumption didn’t change though, so that’s a bonus.  Yesterday I managed to get a few more crunches in, we’ll see if I can keep that trend up?

This morning was a weird exercise.  I got out of bed when Kim did & I don’t think my body has ever made that much noise!  EVERYTHING was popping & cracking.  Got down on the floor to stretch & do yoga, & again EVERYTHING popped & cracked.  My muscles were VERY tight.  So of course I was an idiot and added to each repetition of lifting weights, not sure I’m there yet.

I wrote a bunch of this & realized that I don’t have to justify my purchases with my money.  I’m saving for that guitar & hope to order it in February since there’s 3-15 month delay on it.  Then I’ll continue saving for the amplifier & footswitch.  I’ll probably have the amplifier before the guitar arrives?

Had I thought this through last year, I’d likely have the amplifier & footswitch by now.  It’s a 50 Watt amplifier that can switch to 25 Watts & 0.5 Watts (quieter/digital) for in an apartment or condo while still producing the same type of sound you’d get from a loud amplifier.  I always wanted a tube amp before, but they were just too much in price for me.  This will be comparable to a tube amp, but still not the same.  It also connects to the internet, that’s not gonna happen here.  I don’t need someone trying to mess with an amplifier!!??!?

If we find a house & are able to sell our condo, those purchases will be pushed back to a more appropriate time.

It’s going to be November soon & in Canada that’s when we pause to honour our veterans for all they’ve sacrificed for us.  I know we’ll be getting a call from the legion asking for a donation.  If a cause I support calls looking for a donation, I’d be more than happy to help out, but I can’t.  I hate that I’m going to have to turn them down because I’m saving my pennies for myself, that’s when I feel greedy, selfish, & ashamed.

Just because I can’t donate financially doesn’t mean we don’t donate.  When I gained weight & couldn’t fit into my clothing it was donated to homeless shelters, the Salvation Army, the Diabetes foundation, a second hand store, I used to donate blood when I could before cancer.  When I lost a bunch of weight we did the same thing again by donating clothes to various charities.

I’ve never had a raspberry beret to donate to a second hand store…

Rough week last week, & got worse when the week ended.  I love that there was a March on Washington, I just hate that it had to happen & it will likely fall on deaf ears, politically.

Stayed up past midnight on Saturday to watch the baseball game I had recorded earlier that day & practice guitar unplugged.  Got up shortly after 7:00 am Sunday & made my food for the week ahead.  With baseball on, I don’t get to practice as much guitar on the weekends.  I watch the games on the couch while casually strumming my acoustic guitar.  The little bit that I got to play electric I focused on a few scales, tremolo picking, & these 2 songs are getting better all the time.  I’m focusing more on the lead part for the chorus of “Alive” since I don’t sing.  If I was singing I’d strum the 4 chords.

This song by Our Lady Peace isn’t nearly as challenging as I anticipated.  It just looked odd at first.

I googled songs with 7 string guitar parts in them to learn.  Trivium, Dream Theater, Korn, Sevendust, etc.  I learn those & songs done in baritone guitar tuning.  I’ve got 2 baritone songs already and one Trivium song, so I’m off to the metal & lead guitar world.  Figured that I don’t just want to do the same stuff I did before cancer & that I should improve my guitar skills.

I’m going bald from my “disappearing hairline” & I’m a little thin on the top back portion of my head.  I hope they meet in the middle or I’ll have a weird stripe of hair in the middle of my head.

The beer sealers we ordered at the beginning of June from amazon got here yesterday.  Now my straps are secured on my guitars.  Just waiting for the guitar I ordered in January and I need to change the strings on other guitars very soon, some of them need a good cleaning too.

S2 Custom 22 Semi-Hollow Body Guitar w/Gig Bag - McCarty Sunburst

What I don’t understand about PRS guitars.  The Canadian dollar is at $0.77 to a full USA dollar.  A core model PRS guitar, made in Maryland, USA (not what I’d ever spend on a guitar) retails for $2300 up in America.  In Canada it’s about $3000 more, so roughly $5300 retail.  That’s pretty accurate, but there is NO WAY I’d come close to spending $5300 on a guitar plus the %11 tax in total here in Saskatchewan!

I hate watching our southern neighbors going through this stuff.

The solo/instrumental album by John Petrucci of Dream Theater is REALLY good & I’m still on an “Opeth” kick, listening to the “Ghost Reveries” album.  I’m liking Rancid, I’m not a huge fan of punk music.  Rancid seem to be right up my alley though!

That video of me playing guitar on the Facebook page was NOT something I wanted to do.  I’d rather play in front of 500 real people, which I’ve done in the past as a guitarist & lead singer, than in front of any type of camera. For me it was a TOTAL embarrASSment!  Take any camera a LONG way away from me so I don’t know it’s there and surprise it feels normal & I can totally feel relaxed and focus on my playing & do a MUCH better job of it.  I played that song again on Sunday, no type of camera & an INCREDIBLY better job of it.

I got really depressed/sad/disappointed/angry at myself & couldn’t even enjoy the Jays game.  Instead I grabbed my 7 string and practiced some Trivium then Alter Bridge on my Explorer.  From the time Kim & I filmed it late Wednesday afternoon until I finally got out of bed Saturday at 5:00 am, I slept TERRIBLY!  I’ve had more naps in 3 days than I usually do in 1 ½ years.

I can do that guitar part fine, if you wanna see it, I live in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, if you don’t want to come here you’ll have to take me at my word.

I MIGHT do a different song when I feel like it.  I’m not promising when or if there will be a different song later.  Some people are fine with cameras, I’m not one of them, if I have to be serious about something.  I HATE being in photographs, so I don’t know what I was thinking…oh yeah people said they wanted a video.

“We keep asking because you ALWAYS change your mind”, why do I change my mind?  Because I get so sick of people that pick & pick & pick until they get their way.  Am I stubborn, opinionated, or spineless?  Whatever it is that I am, it’s a role I’m done playing.

“You’ll regret not going to your grade 12 graduation”.  “You’ll regret not going to your technical college graduation”.  Well I regret going to both of those events.  I went to my grade 12 graduation with a friend I had been in the same class with since kindergarten.  That was the good thing about graduation, that & the fact I was finally done with high school.  WORST 5 YEARS OF MY LIFE…and I survived stage 4 brain cancer.

Kim’s never asked me to do anything I don’t want to.  If we ever find a place to move into, I just want to be able to go into the backyard by myself during the day.  I haven’t been able to leave the confines of our building or any building on my own since the morning of February 5th, 2008.  So I’ve adapted to being inside %99.99999 of the time.  Does it suck?  How was the beginning of quarantine for everyone else?  I was pissed off, grumpy, depressed & generally not pleasant to be around.  This is my life, I figured that out a LONG time ago.  Get over it, quarantine will pass for everyone else, I’ll be doing the same thing I’ve been doing since mid-July 2012 & I’m more than OK with that.  What was I forcefully told when I got out of my Rehabilitation program?  “SUCK IT UP, STOP BEING SO MISERABLE & GET OVER IT”.  Sorry, I have no other words of wisdom, that’s what I was told.

Go out, have fun while you can, be responsible & accountable.  I had my fun for the first 28 years, Kim & I have fun together because we’re kinda used to this type of life.  If she wants to do something I physically can’t do, like go for a bike ride, she calls a friend & they go for a bike ride.

When we had time off at the beginning of August we watched the movie “Eurovision” on Netflix.

Kim & I are just lying in bed chatting one morning this weekend, she pulls out here cell to play this song & get it stuck in our heads.

You’re welcome!

Other than “Ya, ya, ding, dong”, I’ve been listening to a TON of Opeth lately, different albums.

Meanwhile Kim’s been watching stuff on Netflix I can’t stand for more than 5 minutes & end up leaving the room to practice guitar…

What sort of gets to me, but I understand it’s for entertainment purposes is guitarists on  They’ll have $500 bucks just laying around if not more buy a random guitar online just to see what they get in a guitar for $500.  Just to make a video with that guitar while there is literally $100,000 worth of guitars hanging on the wall behind them.  If they think that $500 guitar is terrible…uh…send it to me or donate it to a charity & play the 40 guitars on the wall behind you!  Great guitar players with entertaining videos who works as guitar teacher, so I kind of get it.  Maybe level the playing field a bit?  I was watching one of his videos and I counted at least 10 REALLY expensive Core model PRS Guitars, I’m getting, hopefully, 2 much lower priced PRS S2 models.  He’s earned them & he plays them, they’re not just wall art.  Comes off as a pretty good guy that can take a joke or make a joke.

…and he smashes it on his drive way at the end of the video.  To be fair he went to the Berkley School of Music, had the same guitar teacher as John Mayer, teaches guitar as a job, he & his wife donate to charities, and he has easily 25 guitars, 100s of guitar pedals, 10 or more amplifiers.  That’s more than I’d ever want to deal with.

I have one amplifier which I’ll trade in when I go to purchase a new/better one, I keep getting rid of pedals I don’t need or use for money, I’ll have 6 electrics by the end of next year (Hopefully).  The one coming to me soon will likely be THE guitar out of the group of 6 electrics.

Kim & I have no children.  I don’t spend money on anything else anymore, I’ve decided to not go to a concert unless they’re within Alberta, my home province of Saskatchewan, or Manitoba.  I don’t drink, I might buy a pair of shorts or a shirt every 3 years.  We don’t travel or go out for dinner and whatever I don’t use I sell.  Such as my Keurig, Kim uses a drip pot for coffee & always has, I can’t ride my old mountain bike SOLD & Kim got a new mountain bike so the old one was SOLD.

We looked into my Retirement Disability Savings Plan a little deeper.  If I can contribute $30,000 by the time I’m 50 the government will contribute $90,000 at most.  Pretty good deal I’d say.  I can continue to put money in their & it will have the same interest rate as a regular Retirement Savings Plan.  The deal is I can’t touch it for 10 years and my disability check will be discontinued at 50 or 60 years of age.  We’ll likely never have a fluid income, but we won’t be flat broke either, & we don’t have anyone to inherit our stuff yet in mind when our time comes?

I heard a FANTASTIC idea on the weekend!  My mother suggested that as a family we should get together, make a bunch of turkey dinner plates a week or 2 before Christmas, and hand them out to those that are homeless & take some of them to shelters or soup kitchens.  I’m all for it!  I didn’t think of this until long after the fact but why not do that every 2 months?  Make a pot of Chili or Pasta with sauce & take it to a shelter or soup kitchen.  I’m not a great cook, but I’m more than willing to learn that and help out however I can.

This is going to be a GREAT month (hopefully)!  My beer sealers/strap locks for my guitars should get here.  My new guitar should get here on the 21st, new guitar strings for my electric guitars, Toronto Blue Jays baseball to watch, & it is Shark Week on the Discovery channel.  Found out the hard way on Monday that when we cancelled the HD package with “The Discovery Channel”, the Standard Definition channel is gone too.  Bah, no “Shark Week”.  New guitar totally makes up for that!!!!!!

Apparently Canadian leaders are pissed?!

See how desperate Trump is to start a war……he went after Canada HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!  Don’t make us get out our water guns!

I don’t like getting involved with politics, but that seems to be THE thing right now.

I watched this yesterday from 2014…

…all this tells me is that there is 1 border but a Canadian dollar as of Monday @ 10:40 am is worth $0.74 American.  How is this news?  I thought this was common knowledge at least among Canadians?

What has been on heavy rotation for me lately, “Ghost Reveries” by Opeth, and “One Day Remains” by Alter Bridge.

We headed out of town after Kim was done work on Wednesday, July 15th.  We went to visit her parents, just south of Prince Albert, about a 3:30 hour drive.  It’s actually a hamlet with a population of less than 40 people.  Quiet & very relaxing.  I’d say it’s just as relaxing as my family’s cabin.  I can’t go out to the cabin anymore, it’s not wheelchair accessible in anyway.

Kim’s parents’ place is easier for me to get around in with my wheelchair.  The only issue is that it takes me a lot longer to adapt to my surroundings in a wheelchair.

The biggest issue was in my head.  I was in a VERY relaxed space, but I just felt guilty about not doing something.  I couldn’t stop thinking that I should be exercising, making my week of food, tending to our dishes, etc.

The first 2 of the 3 nights we were there I didn’t sleep well at all for some reason?  We’d go to bed around 10:00 pm every night, but the first 2 nights I was wide awake at 2:20 am then 5:00 am the second night.  I crashed hard for a solid 3 hour nap Friday afternoon & slept really well that night.

Don’t ask me why, my brain just doesn’t stop thinking about what I feel I should be doing.  I still feel as though I’m at least 20 years behind everyone.  I continue to think to myself that I don’t deserve a break since I have so much to do before I can even consider resting.

The only time I feel it’s acceptable to take a break is when Kim has time off, calendar holidays, if I’m sick (which actually feels like a waste of time to me), and when my body just yells at me in pain (another waste of time to me).

Even though I couldn’t feel relaxed, it was nice to go there to see them & Kim’s brother made it for supper on Thursday & Friday.  The bonus were the fresh homemade cinnamon buns!

The entire time we spent there I thought it was me just not being used to my surroundings.  I slept fine Friday night there.  We got home Saturday afternoon & I slept fine Saturday night.  Then comes Sunday night & I barely slept.  Got out of bed around 5:00 am.  Did a few things around the house (quietly), had my breakfast, & finished my exercise by 7:30 am.

When I practice guitar I use a metronome when I do scales & finger exercises.  I play rhythm stuff, so I don’t want the beat to change.  As stated in this video, there are 3 things that make up musicality.  Rhythm, melody, & harmony.  Go to 2:15 minutes in the video to hear what Paul Reed Smith has to say about that…

I’ve found that practicing unplugged REALLY helps, as does practicing on my acoustic guitar (which I need to do more often).  I see a week of Led Zeppelin coming at me!  “Kashmir”, “Whole Lotta Love”, “Houses of the Holy”, & more “Immigrant Song”!

Shipment date for this guitar ordered in January is still set for August 21st 2020.  Feels like a lifetime though!

S2 Custom 22 Semi-Hollow Body Guitar w/Gig Bag - McCarty Sunburst

I’m still saving for this guitar which would arrive 3 months after I place the order or 6 months if they’re backed up still due to the virus.  If everything works out, I hope to order it in the spring.

S2 McCarty 594 Electric Guitar with Gigbag - Whale Blue

I’m hoping an upgrade in paint colour won’t be too much extra, if it is I’ll stick with the ‘Whale Blue’ colour that’s offered.  I’d like it to be in this ‘Violet Blue Burst’ colour.

I’ll stop spending money & hopefully get this amplifier & footswitch in 2022.  Kim tells me to continue saving up for this.  I’d like to get this sooner than later, but I have a decent amplifier to use while I wait a bit.

Quality over quantity.  I am VERY excited for my guitar to get here in August.  Probably looks like just another guitar to most people.  Even the salesman that’s helping me order it from the factory is pretty enthusiastic about it.

Guitar first, then the amplifier & footswitch later on.  This is as long as everything goes as planned & is perfect.  I think we can all agree that the world is far from perfect at the moment.

Definite progress during Monday’s guitar practice on these 2 songs.  Practiced parts of them on my acoustic over the weekend!

I gotta say that not being able to sing has made me attempt more technical guitar parts (to me) that I wouldn’t have even considered before.  I’m really not into solos though.  They just don’t seem as memorable to me.

With the President’s polling numbers are in the gutter, he could turn them around a bit if he’d just do his job & let Dr. Fauci speak as to how to deal with the virus.

I wish Donald Trump would swallow his pride, admit he’s wrong about the Coronavirus at least & help save lives.  Instead he’s done the complete opposite, almost to the point he’s encouraging death to the USA citizens.  Just a sad, screwed up situation.

Please wear a mask in public, practice physical distancing, & listen to health professionals & local government.  EVERYWHERE!!!!

Metallica are set to release their CD & Movie “S&M2” on August 28th (Symphony & Metallica) with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra.  Here’s the single, a new acoustic song for this occasion.

P.S.  I was practicing Monday night unplugged.  I finished up for the evening, I was feeling pretty good about my practice & thought I’d have a small bowl of ice cream while hanging out with Kim.  SHE ATE MY ICE CREAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I was gonna hold off on buying the amplifier, but that changed instantly, so she told me to have a banana?!  She didn’t care about the amplifier, she ate my Ben & Jerry’s.

I fell asleep to “Queen” the album “A Day at the Races”

I exercised to “Black Sabbath” the album “Heaven & Hell”

I had a list of albums that I grabbed this year, & it disappeared.  These are the albums of the year that stuck with me & are VERY memorable for me.  When I say “metal” do me a favour & don’t freak out about the vocals.  I don’t think I bought an album this year with ‘growling’ or ‘screaming’ on it.  A lot of metal vocalists are very well trained at their craft, even the ‘screamers’ out there.  It’s hard to do that.

I’m sure there were more albums that I bought, but these are the ones that caught my attention the most.

“Opeth” the album “In Cauda Venenum”

Yeah it’s a progressive rock/metal/soft-rock album from the Swedish group.

“P!nk” the album “Hurts 2B Human”

You know who she is more than likely.  I do like her previous release “Beautiful Trauma” a bit more, but there was nothing wrong with this one!

“Dream Theater” the album “Distance Over Time”

Progressive metal out of the USA, no this guy doesn’t growl or scream.  He’s a classically trained singer.  Usually someone says “metal” and everyone else freaks out about the vocals being scary.

“Alter Bridge” the album “Walk the Sky”

Based in Florida.  6th album & living in Western Canada, I’ll never see them live.  I think they’ve done the Montreal & Toronto tour twice since 2004.

“I Built the Sky” the album “The Zenith Rise”

Instrumental metal that REALLY shocked me, in a good way.  I’ve never heard anything like it and this is their 5th release.  I’ve got this album & I’d like to get 2 other albums by them.

“TOOL” the album “Fear Inoculum”

The only reason this wasn’t my favourite album of the year was that it’s just SO long.  “TOOL” is a band that you listen to & focus on nothing else, like most music is meant to be heard.  There are so many layers to this album & 6/10 songs are well over the 10 minute mark.  I’ve only had time to focus on it once.  It’s not an album full of singles either, it’s an album.  “Fear Inoculum” is roughly 7 minutes longer than their 1999 album “Lateralus”.  The difference is that “Lateralus” has 13 songs opposed to 10 on “Fear Inoculum”.  I can listen to 7 songs on “Lateralus”, come back later & listen to the rest.  I don’t like doing that with “Fear Inoculum”, I want to listen to it from start to finish with no separation.  I don’t have 1 ½ hours to focus on an album every week?

“In Flames” the album “I, The Mask”

Another Swedish metal band.  If you want to call these vocals “screamy” go ahead.  They’re called a “Swedish melodic death metal band” emphasis on the ‘melodic’ portion though.  He sings with an odd tone.

“Big Wreck” the album “…but for the sun”

I thought this was just my favourite “Big Wreck” album, turns out it’s one of my favourite albums of all time by a Canadian band not well known outside of Canada.  They’re a rock band & if you’ve never turned on a rock radio station in Canada or if you’ve lived under a rock since the late 1990s, you’ve never heard of them.

Honourable mentions. Billie Eilish’s “When we all fall asleep, where do we go?”, “Of Monsters & Men” the album “Fever Dream”, Mark Morton “Anesthetic”, & “Jimmy Eat World” the album “Surviving”.

As for future out of province concerts, I’m going to scale that WAY back.  Too much money I don’t have.  There had better be a show in Calgary, Alberta or Winnipeg, Manitoba & no more than 2 out of province shows a year, if that.  Hopefully there are more shows here in Regina or 2 ½ hours away in Saskatoon.  I’ll go to Moose Jaw (45 minutes away) if they ever get an act that intrigues me.

“Paramore” news…

What else to expect in 2020?  Chevelle, Lamb of God, Megadeth, The Pretty Reckless, Stone Temple Pilots, Into Eternity, Third Ion, Foo Fighters, Evanescence, Testament, Trivium, and more?  Most of these are rumored releases.

HOLY SMOKES!!!!  “Stone Temple Pilots” already have a preorder for their acoustic album “Perdida” for full release on February 7th.

25th anniversary for “Foo Fighters” & from the looks of their Facebook page they’re recording or might have already?

Gave my guitars a good workout yesterday.  After 3 ½ months of 45 minutes to 3 hours a day, 5-6 days a week I’m pretty much back to where I was on guitar when I got sick.  6 Foo Fighters songs down, added in parts I’ve never attempted, very close on 2 Metallica songs, a few other simple songs down, new chords, a handful of other riffs too.  All rhythm & hooks, I’ve never played guitar solos.  Feels so gratifying!!!!!!!  I forgot how much I missed it!  You have no idea how happy I am with this!!!!!!  I was so happy I almost broke down with tears of joy!!!  Just a few seconds behind the real tempo but just a little more polishing to do.

I’ll figure out how to put some videos on here.  Something you should know first though.  I LOATHE photos, videos, and audio recordings of myself.  Take the amount you don’t like them of yourself and multiply that by 100,000,000,000 and you’ll be almost where I am.  It probably won’t happen often, especially since I don’t own a phone or any type of camera.

Well, exercise is done for the day so that means perfecting a few songs on the guitar until… “Star Wars” Episode 9 tonight with my pop!  He got me into this mess with VHS, now I’m getting us out of this mess at the theater!

Music throughout the weekend.  “Trivium X 2”, “Metallica”, “Lamb of God”, “In Flames”, “Of Men & Monsters”, & “Opeth”

I spent Friday night watching the Saskatchewan Roughriders lose first place to the Calgary Stampeders in Calgary 28-30.  2 beer and a rum on the rocks, I’m a lightweight now that I drink pretty much water & nothing else.  Kim’s not a football fan & went to bed just before 9:00 pm, game started at 7:30 pm.

Saturday we spent the day mostly cleaning out our storage room, I don’t know how many bins Kim took to donate to Value Village, we have a few more items to send their way still.  I found a TON of clothes that didn’t fit & now do, donated some & have some to keep & add to my wardrobe of sport & concert T-Shirts.

Found some vinyl albums for a friend of mine.  I don’t own a record player.  So he might as well use them.  My Grandfather bought them at garage sales for $1 & let me grab a few for free.  I have a few as well.  Some good stuff I didn’t realize I had on vinyl…

I personally HATE the idea of streaming music.  I prefer to own my music.  That being said, I do stream things until I can afford to buy them on iTunes or the odd CD.  I need to cut back on streaming music, I have 10 streaming albums at the moment that I’m waiting to purchase.  If you like streaming music, go for it!  Here are a couple of albums on my list to purchase…..

Haven’t had the official word yet, but it looks like our affordable, wheelchair accessible, dream home is sold & gone.  I’m pretty bummed out about that, no silver lining here really.  I do hope the new owners can use all of the wheelchair accessible features that have been added.  Sucks for us but there’s nothing we can do.  Kim wanted it bad & I grew to want it even more.  We’ll get the official word on Tuesday though.

Saturday night we watched “Spider-man Far From Home” on blu-ray.  Kim was spooked by all of the surround sound that kicked in.

Sunday I stayed out of Kim’s way.  She cleaned, did laundry, went grocery shopping, then made supper.  I don’t think my cleaning/maintaining was quite up to par after the “Monthly Spring Cleaning Event” that took place today?  She was on a mission!  I guess my maintaining helped somewhat this was “Monthly” instead of the typical “Weekly Spring Cleaning”.

Thanksgiving Monday, we’re off to the McDonald’s house hold.  We’ll have our Thanksgiving with good friends!  Close enough to call family.  Thangs giving with our “niece” & “nephew”.  We’re “auntie” & “uncle” to a few kids.

Don’t get me wrong here.  I love dressing & gravy, potatoes & roasted fowl aren’t for me.  If I never see a baked or mashed potato again that would be fine.  A roasted bird needs to be either a pulled chicken, barbequed something, or chicken wings.  Turkey or chicken are acceptable in a bun or thinly sliced deli meat.  I’ll eat a roasted bird but it’s FAR from anything I’d consider making!

Great meal this evening & YAY no turkey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Roasted ham, smoked chicken, string bean & tomato salad, onions & cheese, marshmallow fluffy salad, etc.  I managed to stay away from the dressing, potatoes, & pie.  Potatoes can cause me to gag, and it was that way before cancer too.

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

5 day exercise total; 900 leg lifts, 1,200 crunches, 100 squats, 300 back flexes, 50 pushups, 400 curls (10 pounds), 250 tricep extensions (7 pounds), 200 shoulder raises (7 pounds).  Stretching & yoga.

I had to hold back on the squats this week.  There’s a nagging minor pain in my back.  Squats seem to make it worse, back flexes strengthen the muscles.  Ended up being a disappointing week, exercise wise, for me.

I fell asleep to “The Beatles” my favourite album of theirs, many FANTASTIC songs, “Blackbird”, Ob-la-di ob-la-da”, “Back in the USSR”, “While my guitar gently weeps”, “Happiness is a Warm Gun”, etc. but this is my favourite below.  I saw, Canadian rock band “Our Lady Peace” play this song in concert in 1998 & that was it.

I exercised to “Devin Townsend” the album “Empath”

The other place is now an afterthought.  They have an offer, negotiated a price & now all we can do is sit & wait.  This could be over by October 11th, sooner, or if a miracle occurs we’ll get another shot?  I was bummed yesterday & didn’t bother to even exercise.

Today, it’s time to move on & keep doing our thing.  I’m looking at it as one less thing to worry about & the biggest thing I don’t need to worry about.  I worried myself sick on Wednesday & was crushed on Thursday.  Now the stomach nerves are gone.  Just keep swimming!

I could sit here & complain but I don’t have time for that & there’s already enough people complaining about other issues.  Much like my exercise, which I do a TON of, I want to be better at guitar than I was before.  What will fix both of these issues?  Practice & proper repetition.

I’m listening to more of The Beatles lately since I’m relearning, from memory for the most part, how to play the song “Blackbird” on guitar.  I’m throwing in finger picking chords in the wrong place.  I ended up caving & went to a guitar tab site.  I can’t read music anymore, haven’t been able to since 1998 or so.  After I graduated high school.

In 2001 I got my first guitar & taught myself on the internet after learning most of the proper chords from a guitar book laying around that my mother owned.

I looked at the tab, & WOW, no wonder I forgot the order of stuff after almost 12 years.  I’m surprised I remembered all of the chords after an ABI, Acquired Brain Injury.  I’ve got a TON of practicing & memorizing to do.

I’ll “slow it down” a bit for now & focus on my technique for now & just a few songs!

I exercise for a couple of hours, write this up, play guitar for WAY too long & somewhere in there I eat, shower, & snack/eat throughout the day.  Kim comes home & whips up a tasty meal, then I clean up.

She’s working at another job to make some extra cash right now (Every year).  While she’s doing that or watching something on TLC, that’s not “Dr. Pimple Popper”, I’ll either grab a guitar or see what all of the news is on Facebook.

Not as much music being played through the stereo here lately.  It’s more of me practicing guitar.  I’ve still only listened to the TOOL album in its entirety twice.  It’s been more of 1 or 2 songs here & there, long album!

I get to use my ticket at the Saskatchewan Roughriders game this weekend WOO HOO!

There are screwed up people EVERYWHERE.  A fan goes to any type of concert to have fun, not to get stabbed!  Why are people like this?

I like Slayer to a point.  Mood music that actually calms me down & usually just 2 albums out of 12 or 15?  “Reign in Blood” & “Seasons in the Abyss”.

I’m a rock/metal fan but I do like other stuff.  I like Ed Sheeran, even saw him in concert here.  As for the Grammy Awards, I’m all in for Billie Eilish’s album & Lizzo’s album “Cuz I Love You” featuring the song “Juice”.  I have the Billie Eilish album, the Lizzo album is great but I can’t see myself listening to it often?

Any “Joker” movie shouldn’t be funny.  The character is a psychopath.

A progressive everything band rock, metal, orchestral, & ambient music.  Based in Sweden.  This album is available in English & Swedish.  I think this is the first album they’ve made available in Swedish as well as English?  Not sure, they have a LARGE back catalogue.  This album is more of a progressive rock album, but not for the average rock fan.  This is progressive, not an album you can tap your foot to the beat.  The last few albums have been very light, music wise compared to the death metal growling from previous releases.  They’ve been rather odd with weird keyboard & more atmospheric music.

This album certainly isn’t a metal album, but maybe I’m jaded?  This seems far more along the lines of a hard rock album, no screaming but definitely aggressive music in odd time signatures.

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

I fell asleep to “Jimmy Eat World” the album “Bleed American”

I exercised to “The Beatles” the album “Number 1” all of their songs that hit number 1.

I didn’t get to bed as early as I had hoped Sunday night.  Monday I slept in later than I’d have liked.  I like to get up & get things done ASAP.  It tends to get warm in here the later I get up to exercise.  Exercising at noon is something I never do for a reason.  I’m typically done my exercise by 10-11:00 am, if not earlier.  I usually get up by 8:00 am at the latest, some days I’m partially done my exercises when Kim heads off to work at 7:30 am.

Unfortunately we already have snow here as of Sunday evening but it didn’t stick around luckily!

Kim’s teeth will be finished in October.  Then Brewster will have some tests done, followed by some medication.

We’re looking at buying our dream/forever home but we have to sell this place before we buy the other.  No conditional offers will be taken by the current owners of the other place.  They got an offer yesterday, this means we’re in limbo until they accept or reject the offer today or multiple other scenarios happen, so we’ll see.  It would have been our forever/dream home.  Great spot for me in a wheelchair & a nice house for Kim too.  Ah well, not much we can do now but wait.

At least these aren’t non-sense expenses.  It’s not like I have a job to pay for them either.  If we couldn’t afford it, Kim wouldn’t agree to it.  We’ve both cut back on a few luxuries to make this more realistic.

Those are the things that keep me up at night.  It’s that or the fact that I can’t live without stress.  Even this last month & a bit.  If I’m not doing something, I’m thinking about it & what else I need to do.  Now I need to figure out how to relax!

New “Opeth” was released on Friday, September 27.  Here’s a review from a metal fan.

James Hetfield (Metallica) helped Randy Blythe (Lamb of God) get sober 9 years ago.

I just find this funny.  I’m passionate about music.  At the same time I realize that not everyone will enjoy the same type of music.  The question “Who’s the best band in the world, living or dead?” there’s no answer to that, don’t lose any sleep over that.  Who do you like?  That’s a question with an answer & you’ll get many different answers!

I may be a rock & metal fan, but we don’t all do drugs, smoke, drink, & swear.  I swear at myself or in jest & I drink socially.  That’s me, whatever any other people do or don’t do is completely up to themselves.

The people I associate with aren’t those wild partying types.  They’re responsible parents.  Yes, I’m THAT old!!!!

I’ve got a greatest hits album that’s all.  I clicked on the “autofill” button years ago on iTunes & was flooded with albums.  Most of them I got rid of & didn’t want.  I think I kept about 8 of them?  There was likely a minimum of 50 that showed up though.  This likely happened in 2005 or 2006?  I’m not necessarily “pro” or “anti” Heart.  I wouldn’t seek them out, but I also didn’t delete the album.  For me, they’re a band that’s there doing their thing.  Before the album was on my iTunes I knew some of their songs, I figured “Great!  Free music I can appreciate.”

Music throughout the weekend.  “Foo Fighters”, “Radiohead”, “Testament”, “Tool”, & “Opeth”

Friday evening we caught up on some TV from the week.  We seem to be quite busy these days & not watch nearly as much TV as we used to.  With Kim being at work & me being busy at home and moving a bit slower than I’d like in a wheelchair, we watch Ellen Degeneres, another show, & one of us will watch something the doesn’t want to.  I do watch a recorded Late Show with Stephen Colbert the next day while Kim’s at work.

My tummy was a bit off Friday night, so I didn’t sleep great.  Hello couch Saturday morning & all is well!  I slept for about 2 or 3 hours on the couch after finally getting out of bed at about 6 am, slept from 8:40 am until 11:50 am or so & was ready to go.  All we had on was our “niece’s” 6th birthday party at 5 pm.

“Auntie Kim, what’s in the present?”  Nice try but Auntie Kim’s smarter than a 6 year old.  I got cuddles from our 1 ½ year old “nephew” as soon as he saw me.  Kim was only a little “jealous”.

I’m sure our “niece” had a long day.  Presents, cake, kids birthday party followed by family friends birthday party, hide & seek, & what looked like mechanical bull riding on a small bouncy toy cow.  Sort of looked like this sheep….

Always good times with the kids!

Today is a get ready for a, hopefully, busy week ahead.  My eggs & vegetable juice are done.  Now to get hyped up to cram as much exercise & guitar in.  Watch the last Blue Jays game of the year, clear off as much of the DVR as possible & get to bed at a reasonable hour tonight.

If you like vinyl, here’s a “Nirvana” reissue!

The making of Alter Bridges’ new album “Walk the Sky” out October 18th

YAY!!  It’s official & done Spider-man is back in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Off the record with Alter Bridge!

Sure, rock & metal music are starting to come back.  Both genres aren’t popular enough for the stage of the Super Bowl Half-Time Show…..yet.  I’m not sure Dee Snider of 80s band “Twisted Sister” is the guy to call out the NFL at this point?

All the best to him, he’s been down this road before & it has worked out for him in the past!

New “Jimmy Eat World” album out called “Surviving” on October 18th.

This is actually “Lamb of God”.  Their first album was released under the name “Burn the Priest”, I’ve never been a fan of that album.  They did release a cover album last year under the name “Burn the Priest”.  This is an album of cover songs that cross the punk/metal influences they have…

Today’s the final day of the regular season for baseball.  Which means I’m done with the Blue Jays for the year.  There was no hope of them making the playoffs months ago.

162 games per team in a season.  With game left today, the Jays are right where I predicted they’d be 66W-95L.  I figured at the start of the year they’d finish with 65-75 wins this year.  In 2020 or more likely 2021 I figure they’ll be a contender.  Other teams are already calling them a dangerous team.  They’re the 2nd youngest team in baseball for average age of players.  They get a few decent pitchers in the offseason & keep the young guys together, they’ll be fine.  The kids are alright.
