Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

I fell asleep to “Foo Fighters” the album “Sonic Highways”

I exercised to “Halestorm” the album “Vicious”

Monday was a BIG no!  No exercise, my body needed a break.  Tuesday was the day to start doing things the right way.  Saturday & Monday I did eat my regular healthy breakfast.  Monday was healthy eating all the way through, Sunday wasn’t.  We found a new hard ice cream place, which we visited Saturday & Sunday.  Not healthy in the least, but worth every spoonful.  “Dandy’s” on a service road just off of South Albert Street.  Kim wanted ice cream again last night after we looked at a few Toyotas (I don’t know where she’s finding this money)?  I think we’re going again tomorrow?

So we stopped at “Dandy’s” for ice cream after 2 minutes I broke after saying I didn’t need anything.  “She said” to me “We’re here & you’re not going to have any ice cream?”  Then about a minute & a half I said “OK twist my rubber arm”

While I was getting my massage on the weekend, the therapist asked me about my exercises.  So I told her about them & she suggested using weights instead of putting so much pressure on my wrists.  I called Kim on Monday to see if she had time to pick up some dumbbells on her way home.

Tuesdays & Thursdays are now weight exercises, lil’ yoga, & LOTS of stretching.  Yeah, all of that still takes me a little more than an hour.  I leave the weights on the floor by the couch, & I’ll randomly do more on my weaker arm, the left arm.

Not your body.  So why do they need this law?  Is this how they do things in “Game of Thrones”?

I want to see this movie, almost as much as I wanted to see “Bohemian Rhapsody” which didn’t disappoint one bit!

My iPod classic (160 giga bytes) still works & still has a bit of digital room on it.  This seems to be even better than the iPod classic though!  I’d be into this when my iPod dies!  Anything that makes it a cell phone will not be activated though!

Big Wreck is really pushing their 2nd single from their new album.  Maybe a preorder date on Friday????  Please, please, please, please……

IOMMI

Yes the Tony Iommi, the guitar player of “Black Sabbath”.  He did a solo album with a different singer on each song, some guests played an instrument for the song they appeared on for vocals.  Apple should get their act together since this album is a long ways away from already being out of print & not on iTunes or Apple Music.  I own the CD since I bought it when it was released.  This is 1 of the 8 CDs I own that are nowhere to be found now.  “Oh, but streaming & downloading sites have everything!”  In a perfect world they should, but streaming &/or downloading sites don’t have everything, neither do I, just the stuff I bought at the time.

Anyways, here are a few tracks from this FANTASTIC album.  Yes I bought it because Dave Grohl sang & played drums on a song!

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

I fell asleep to “In Flames” the album “I, The Mask”

I exercised to “Chromeo” two albums on shuffle.

5 day exercise total; 400 pushups, 600 leg lifts, 300 crunches, 200 tricep lifts, 450  squats, 300 back flexes.

The exercise is horrible until I get my butt in gear & get it done & out of the way, then I feel good & feel I’ve accomplished something.  It’s not something physical I can really show anyone though.

EX: My mother didn’t really understand what my job was.  I told her I was a printing press operator, she still didn’t fully understand.  I took her the first sheet of paper you set up & see how far off the colour is, & how far I needed to get the metal plates to move so it all lined up.  Then I took her a final sheet of paper from the same job once it was done & explained what I had to do to get it that way.

I worked at a console to the press.  I could manipulate each of the 4 or 5 colours from there to move them or allow the right amount of colour to a certain area.  Once I was done a job, I had something tangible/physical/material to look at & think to myself “Hey, I helped make that.”

I can’t really show what I do now.  I’m pretty tired for the rest of the day, I sit on the couch & watch some TV until I feel the motivation to shower or until I just can’t stand being sweaty & smelly.  I certainly don’t want to do anymore exercise other than some walking when Kim gets home to help me.

My cousin’s in town!  Went to my parents’ place on Tuesday afternoon.  A game, Chinese food for supper (wasn’t even oily), some TV, & left with my belated birthday gift…………..wait for it……………………oatmeal chocolate chip cookies & the blu-rays I lent to my cousins.  My mom & cousin baked them on Monday for me.  My grandmother’s “recipe”.  “Add a little more of this & an extra dash of this until the dough feels right”- Grandma.  My grandparents met each other while she was working as a baker at a bakery & he was delivering from the bakery.

I had a HORRIBLE day on Thursday.  A pity party for one, I just sobbed for a while & asked myself “When will this cancer crap all end?”  I’m tired & stressed & Kim is too.  It feels like a continual pile of bull**** being dumped on us that we can’t get out of, so we never take an extended break from what we do.  I exercise & she busts her butt working while also taking an evening class that’s once a week immediately after work.

I’m glad I survived cancer, but I’m INCREDIBLY sick of the nonsense & crap that comes with it after in my & Kim’s situation.  I exercise 5 days a week & when the f*** does that help.  I’m not going to chase a dream that’s unrealistic for the rest of my life.  To say this is getting old is an understatement!  I want the pill that Robin Williams wanted, called “F*** it all”.  I’m not about to give up, but I’ll never be whatever the hell “normal” is!  If it’s coming, it’s really f***ing slow.  I was EXTREMELY frustrated!  This is nobody’s fault, but I always feel like it’s mine, ALWAYS!

I think God & Satan got together & said “Hey, let’s mess with the guy who has manic depression.  It’ll be fun!”  I have a better idea, how about you don’t?

10 bands that influenced me & made me want to sing & play guitar.  U2, Barenaked Ladies, I Mother Earth, Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Big Wreck, The Watchmen, Matthew Good Band, Tool, Led Zeppelin, & Queen.  Many more!

Yes I’m well aware that is 11 bands but I had to get Led Zeppelin in there.

I could never play fast, some of these are guitar influences, and the others are voice influences.

IN FLAMES REVIEW OF “I, THE MASK”

FANTASTIC album somewhat of a return to the earlier albums.  Still hardcore fans say it’s more of a rock album & complain about this album.  I think they want “In Flames” to just make duplicates of “The Jester Race”, not going to happen!  That album was released in 1997, I think it’s time the complaining fans jump ship if that’s what they want?

I didn’t get into “In Flames” until I saw them live in 2006?  The final tour for the traveling metal 3-4 hour extravaganza “Sounds of the Underground” tour in Saskatoon.

Yes, their last 2 releases were quite tame “Siren Charms” 2014 & “Battles” 2016 were pretty mellow as far as metal albums go, I really like “Siren Charms” though.

This new album “I, The Mask” is great from the Swedish melodic death metal group.  The first half is more like their old stuff & the second half is mellower.  Here are a few of my favourite songs from the album….

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

Music throughout the weekend.  “Dead Sara”, “Nickelback”, “The Beatles”, “Nirvana”, “Big Wreck”, & “Devin Townsend Project”

LANGUAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, Nickelback’s album “The State” I enjoy once in a while.  I don’t need anymore.  I had 3 CDs & gave 2 of them to my aunt in Alberta.  Hate them if you want but they’ve put in the work to get to where they are.  I wouldn’t call myself a BIG fan, but Nickelback has their place in the current music scene!

Friday ended with me doing dishes, running the dishwasher, & vacuuming.  Kim picked up some steaks to BBQ, then we watched the last 4 episodes of “The Ranch” on Netflix.  I started watching the baseball game right after.  Kim pipes up “Hey, let’s watch the rest of The Ranch”, I reply “We did, it’s done.  We finished the 5th season.”

She’ll leave her phone on the arm of the couch to do some stuff in the kitchen.  Someone will text, email or Facebook something, I’ll tell her or move it away.  It vibrates the entire couch, drives me nucking futz.  If I wanted a vibrating couch we’d likely have one, not a cell phone.

LANGUAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  & SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Saturday we were boring.  Laundry, cleaning & some sitting around watching www.youtube.com clips, like this almost 24 minute video.  Followed by supper & a baseball game.

Went out this afternoon to hang out with Chris, Laurie & their 2 kids.  Grabbed a few groceries for supper.  Then I’ll watch the Jays game well Kim finish’ her weekly spring cleaning.

20 years ago today, June 24, 1998 I had my high school graduation.  In the yearbook there’s a photo of me at the after grad party with the biggest cheesy grin you have ever seen!

METALLICA’S “HARDWIRED……TO SELF-DESTRUCT”

I used to just demolish Metallica whenever I heard a song or mention of their name, but no more, other than the album “St. Anger” which has 0 production of any kind.

This album was released in 2016.  I was 36 at the time.  Their first album “Kill em All” was released in 1983.  “Hardwired” was the first album I enjoyed of theirs.  Only took Metallica 33 years to release something I liked.  I had about 3 of their CDs & iTunes downloads.   The album with the symphony was decent, I didn’t listen to it much though.  I had “The Black Album/Self-Titled” album & “Master of Puppets”.  The first band I played in, everyone else was a fan of Metallica.  That’s why I had those 2 CDs.  I found “Hardwired” to be a ‘gateway’ album into the rest of their catalogue.  I now have all of their studio albums, & the live album with the San Francisco Symphony.  I do enjoy the albums I’ve heard so far.  I just need to listen to “…And Justice for All” & of course “St. Anger” sounds terrible due to the severe lack of production.

“Hardwired” was the album that grabbed me & made me finally pay attention.  I still think they’re over rated, but very talented.  Name another metal band that gets FM radio play as much as Metallica?

I’d say in the last 15-20 years my musical taste has changed drastically, listening to more heavy stuff.  I just find it easier to accept & listen to.  I can either ‘unplug’ & enjoy it or really think about what each musician is doing.

I always thought “Anthrax” was the perfect mix of metal & punk music, & they’re great.  This “Metallica” album does it really well.  It sounds nothing like “Anthrax”, just a different take on those influences.  Here’s one “Anthrax” tune followed by a few tracks from Metallica’s “Hardwired”

I fell asleep to “Metallica” the album “Hardwired…To Self-Destruct”

I exercised to “Queens of the Stone Age” the album “Villains”

As soon as they got into the meat & potatoes of this song at the show, I think everyone got up to dance.

I severely bruised my left hand Monday evening while lifting a heavy box of CD.  That was the only day I did pushups.  At the moment I can’t put any pressure on my left palm or any finger, other than my index finger & thumb.

I wasted 27 years being afraid of death.  6 days after my 28th birthday, I was in a month long coma.  Me dying, never crossed my mind.  I didn’t see Heaven or Hell when I was unconscious.  I was alone in the Conexus Arts Center (live theater in Regina).  I was in the empty seats & I was with Oprah of all people, does this mean Oprah is a God?  I never pictured Oprah being where ever I was??!!?!  I rarely saw Oprah on TV.  If someone else was watching it, I’d see while going to a different room.

The point of this is, the thought of dying used to scare the crap out of me.  Now, not at all.  I’m not out there looking for death in any way.  I’m not about to become a reckless dare devil.  I’ll just keep doing my thing until my time is up, hopefully that’s in the very distant future.

In no way do I want to die, but I’m not scared of it at all though.  I don’t know where I was?  I know I wasn’t scared though.  In a coma for a month, yet completely calm.  I believe in an afterlife, Heaven & I acknowledge that there may be a place called Hell.

Question is was I “Dead or Dreaming”, I like to think I was dreaming. The following is from “Into Eternity” the album “Dead or Dreaming”

BETTER THAN EZRA

I have their first two albums only.  From the ‘90s while I was in high school.  I saw the video for the song “Good” from their first album & was hooked immediately.  According to http://www.wikipedia.com they’re based in New Orleans, Louisiana.  I bought the first 2 albums on either BMG or Columbia House, buy 12 CDs for a penny then buy 1 for $30.  I jumped “back & forth” between the 2.  From what I can tell on iTunes they have 9 studio albums, a Greatest Hits album, & a live album.

Here are a few songs from Better than Ezra’s first 2 albums.

I fell asleep to “A Perfect Circle” the album “Eat the Elephant”

I exercised to “Burn the Priest” the album “Legion XX” basically Lamb of God’s first name.  This is a covers album.

LANGUAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4 day weekly exercise total; 960 pushups, 800 leg lifts, 400 crunches, 400 squats, 330 tricep pushups, & 160 back flexes.

Well that was dumb!  Resumed my exercise like always on Tuesday!  Even though I have not done any exercise since Friday, May 11th.  Somedays my stupidity amazes me!  Probably most other people too hahahaha!  Rhetorical question, keep the answer to yourself please.

I’m the one that puts all of the pressure on me, nobody else.  This week I got really frustrated with my exercise.  Thinking to myself “I have to do better, I have to do more…etc.”  I also had one of those moments, where I took a step back & thought “Is this what I’ll be doing until I die?”, at that moment I realized I have a lot of family & friends I can count on to help me out!

Americans & the rest of the world are worried about a nuclear war.  Why are Americans afraid?  They’ve got their guns to protect them, & if they don’t own a gun they’ll probably be shot?  They kind of have a bad option.  Would you prefer to be killed in a nuclear war or be shot, especially a civil war?  I’m not joking here.  Just mentioning a sad reality!

These days, I really try not to take anything too seriously.  A couple of people tried to make fun of me on a public Facebook page, they knew nothing about me & I knew nothing about them.  I didn’t see any of the multiple posts where they were acting very immature until my brother tagged me in a response.  Thanks Mitch, let them go at it.  If someone I don’t know on Facebook wants to take a cheap shot at me, so be it.  In the end, they’re the ones who made the comments, I did not reply to my statement about emojis.  Because emojis are a FANTASTIC reason to get upset………………….NOT!

ECONOLINE CRUSH

They have 5 albums & 1 EP.  I own their first 2 albums on CD & another from iTunes.  Wikipedia says they’re from Vancouver, British Columbia, I always thought they were originally from a small farming town in Manitoba.  Wikipedia is not always correct with pop culture stuff such as bands, movies, & TV series.  I could be wrong also?  Their sound is that of a rock band that’s influenced by industrial metal, they are NOT a metal group, I would call them an industrial rock band.

I’m not an expert on them, but a lot of my friends are.  I like them quite a bit.  This is another post-grunge group from Canada that were HUGE in the late 1990s & early 2000s.  There’s an album & an EP that were released prior to this album.  Honestly, I haven’t listened much to the album I got from iTunes.

1997        “The Devil You Know”

2001        “BRAND NEW HISTORY”

Dave Grohl can’t listen to Nirvana.  I get it.  An old friend who’s never there.

I thought it was a well-deserved moment this week when Ashton Kutcher donated $4,000,000 to Ellen Degeneres’ wild life foundation for the gorillas in Africa!

If any of this is true (which I HIGHLY doubt it is) I’ll go back to buying CDs.  Amazon, here I come!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Maybe?  Oh, the lies!  I couldn’t find the link he saw on that site!  Also, you would think iTunes users would get a direct email regarding this?!

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

I fell asleep to “Stone Temple Pilots” the album “STP 2018” followed by “Tesseract” the album “Sonder” & finally “A Perfect Circle” the album “Eat the Elephant” this last album is a grower not a shower!

I’m so glad it’s the weekend.  I need a couple of days to rest my body.

Stayed up late to watch the Blue Jays.  They’re currently 13W-6L.  Last year they did not win their 11th game until May, HUGE improvement & younger players coming up from the minor leagues doing REALLY well in the major league.  I hope this is a sign of what we’ll see next year!?  So me on the couch with a gin & sprite & 1 beer.

We’re a bit behind on our DVR though.  Late night talk shows, a couple of Ellen Degeneres shows, & 2 or 3 other shows.  Saturday Kim was doing laundry while we were catching up on our DVR after the day time baseball game.  Very quiet Saturday.

Today is just a normal Sunday for us.  Kim got ahead of the day.  She went grocery shopping on Saturday & already did some of the laundry.  I have to make a juice for the week, & we cleaned off the DVR on Saturday.  One more Blue Jays game today in N.Y. then a day off for the Blue Jays on Monday.

It’s a 162 game season for each baseball team, & I watch as many as possible, which is usually around 120-150 I’m guessing.

ROCK IS NOT DEAD

It’s not a dead genres.  Gene Simmons, KISS, started saying this all over social media, & it’s the biggest pile of manure I have ever heard of.  Maybe KISS’ sales have dropped, guess what?  Everybody else’ sales have dropped because of A) Napster B) iTunes C) All of these hipster streaming sites?  I use iTunes, a few people I know in bands signed to a label tell me they get a significant portion of the money spent on iTunes.  I don’t believe in “free” music & I know I’m not alone.  iTunes isn’t available for just me

“I’ll never pay for an album!  Who would do such a thing?”  You didn’t want to pay for music, but that’s only part of the reason rock music is beaten up right now.  New generation of music fans aka different music for a different generation.  Most teenagers just simply aren’t fans of rock music.  One day some kid will pop out of a garage after hearing a rock album that inspires her/him.

Many people probably don’t want to hear this but “Nickelback” was the next “Nirvana”.  The difference is “Nirvana” inspired others to be creative, “Nickelback” inspired others to create similar music, since they knew “Nickelback” was making good money on that style of music.  I honestly don’t know a teen that likes “Nickelback”.  If “Nickelback” was the next “Nirvana”, I’m sure somebody else will take over as THE rock band of a new generation.  Rock’s not dead it’s just harder to find.  It’s buried under the clutter of Country, EDM, Pop, etc.  It will come back, we just need to be patient & ride out this phase.  Music has always gone through peeks & valleys.  If you like “Nickelback” that’s fine with me.  If you like “Nickelback” because you think it’s badass & you’re a heroin addict, then you have 2 problems!

If rock is dead why do we still have “Pearl Jam”, “Foo Fighters”, “Alter Bridge”, “Alice Cooper”, “Neil Young”, “Rob Zombie”, “Tool”, “A Perfect Circle”, “Chevelle”, “Alice in Chains”, “Big Wreck”, “Royal Blood”, “Queens of the Stone Age”, “Stone Temple Pilots”, “Clutch”, “Bryan Adams”, “Finger Eleven”, “Paul McCartney”, “Eagles of Death Metal”, “Muse”, “Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds”, “Smashing Pumpkins”, “Stone Sour”, “Them Crooked Vultures”, “Greta Van Fleet”, “The Trews”, “Weezer”, “Godsmack”, “Theory of a Deadman”, “Nickelback”, “3 Doors Down” etc.  Sure some of this is older music, but they’re still making rock music.  This list doesn’t even branch out into the metal music out there.

You can say rock is dead, just look a little harder until someone brings it closer to the forefront of music.  I’m not saying everyone will like these groups or even that I do, but there’s a sample of what’s out there.

www.loudwire.com agrees with me.  Long article.

http://loudwire.com/rock-not-dead-america-thriving-rock-festival-circuit/

I’ve never heard of this group but I thought this sounded pretty good.  2 full length albums & many singles including Nirvana’s “Heart Shaped Box” cover

I’ll wait, I just bought 2 albums from iTunes Thursday night.

For me Gene Simmons is very close to the Donald Trump of music.  Not for his musical career & success, but for the slimy money hungry person he is.

If people want marijuana then let them have for medication or recreational use.  Legal or not, they’ll use it no matter what their race is!  Not my problem if people want to use it.

I fell asleep to “Foo Fighters” the album “Concrete & Gold”

Friday evening ended with me watching the Blue Jays win their first game on the road in Texas.  Rain delay but they got it in.  I was also throwing back a couple of pints of Rebellions “Cherry Tart” beer.  I love their sour beers that come by once a year.

2 pints of “Cherry Tart (sour) beer” is full of sugar, almost too sweet for me.  All of that sugar & I was wide awake in the shower by 8:00 am on Saturday.  It’s very sour for 3 or 4 seconds, then incredibly sweet.  Went for a visit with my Grandparents in the afternoon.  Came home but stopped for “Wok Box” for supper.  Neither of us had ever tried it.  Expensive, but Kim will get 2 meals out of her order, in the long run it’s not bad for a fast meal.

Watched the Blue Jays lose 5-1 against Texas.  That makes their record 5W-4L.  After 9 games last year they were 1W-8L, so this is an improvement but nothing to get too excited about.  The Blue Jays will likely look very different by June or at least this year.  It will be more players from the minor leagues taking over.  Next season, nobody will have heard of the players on the 25 man roster.  Yes, they play almost every day.  They had an off day this past Thursday & another one this coming Thursday.

Sunday morning, that “Cherry Tart” beer is gone after 2 more pints last night, & thank goodness.  WAY too sweet for me, tasty, but too much sugar!  Woke up at 8:00 am again, & we don’t even have a kid.  Last game of 3 games for the Blue Jays in Texas.  Hopefully they can get a win today to make their season record 6W-4L instead of a 5W-5L record.  If they’re going to do anything this year they need to have a much better record at the end of April.  Last year they dug themselves a deep hole & never got out of it finishing 4th in a division of 5 teams.

Then it will be a regular Sunday for us of getting ready for the week, Kim will be getting groceries, I made my juice yesterday, hard boil some eggs for breakfast during the week, laundry to be washed & put away, etc.

PAUL SIMON’S – GRACELAND

My Father bought this album when I was very young.  It was released in 1986, I’m not sure if that’s when he got it?  I was a kid so at first I thought it was just OK.  It aged well though!  I ended up buying my own CD sometime between 2005 & 2007?  This is the only Paul Simon album I own.  I know at some point, I’ll seek out more of his stuff, I just haven’t gotten around to it yet.  Now I consider this album as one of my many classic albums….

Top 10 Foo Fighters riffs.

Avatar sequel is coming, why?  I had many issues with the first one, I didn’t care for it at all.  Kim bought it though.

Number 1.  Fall Out Boy are NOT a rock band.  Number 2.  They’re a guitar based pop band that uses samples.  If you’re looking for more than that, go somewhere else.  I like Fall Out Boy, great pop band.  If I want to hear a rock band, I’ll listen to something different.

New “Pentatonix” 11 song album “Top Pop Vol.1” is out Friday, April 13th.

2 big releases on April 20th.  “A Perfect Circle” & “Tesseract”

This “Tesseract” band is growing on me, in a good way, not like warts, crabs, or herpes, those have never grown on me.

Nirvana’s “Heart Shaped Box” reworked for TV show “West World”

http://loudwire.com/nirvana-heart-shaped-box-reworked-westworld-season-2-trailer/

Yes, I watch as much Blue Jays baseball as possible.  What doesn’t make sense to me is, why are they babying certain players that are constantly injured?  Their 2B player has been in the major league for 4 years & probably hasn’t played a full season if all of his games were added together.  A season is 162 games, an “everyday” player should be around 120 – 140 games.  This guy is playing for 2 games & 1 game off, to avoid injury, WHY?  So, if he stays healthy he’ll play 108 games.  If he can play 108 games, why not send him out for 120 or 130 games?  Special treatment for him could be difficult if/when they want to trade him.  Other teams could see him as a liability that needs special treatment rather than an asset in a trade.
