I don’t really like doing reviews. I’ve been asked to do a review regarding the brand new football stadium, so here it is from the perspective of me in a wheelchair.
The brand new Mosaic Canadian Football League stadium in Regina. I’ve been lucky enough to have been at most Saskatchewan Roughrider games in Regina since I was old enough for my grandfather to hold me on his lap. I’m guessing since I was 3 years old. Now our season tickets are in my mother’s name, my parents & I go to the games now.
From my perspective at the games, this new stadium is FANTASTIC! There are 2 wheelchair washrooms that I can manage to get to by myself with ease. Our view of the field is excellent. When everybody stands up, we can see everything on the field still. When people directly in front of us stand, they’re around the height of our knees!
There are 9 instead of 2 elevators I hear, I’ve never had to use one at either stadium. We park directly across the street & enter on concourse level, our seats are also on concourse level. The stadium was built under ground level, it’s Regina’s Grand Canyon. We sit on the east side/sunny side. With our seats on ground level & the west side being higher with 2 levels the sun is out of our eyes sooner. If you’re wearing a hat or have sun glasses, the sun is no problem to deal with. Friends of ours sit on a level above us & have the same issues with the sun that the entire east side had at the old stadium.
I only have 2 minor complaints regarding the new stadium, which we were asked about at the exhibition game. Every regular seat has a cup holder, the wheelchair seats don’t. Wheelchair seating is basically a fenced in community in every section. The fence has a slightly larger post every 4-5 feet, I’m sure 2 cup holders on each large post could easily be done.
The other issue is that our section needs a metal plate on the ground over four small bumps on the entrance & exit to our wheelchair seats. I’m sure it’s coming since we noticed one section we passed already had one for the exhibition game. Other than those two things, I’d give the new Mosaic stadium a strong A or once those little things are corrected an A+!
There are many food & drink vendors in the stadium. That would be my only major complaint. The prices are outrageous, so I don’t purchase anything. I found out the hard way that a regular size can of pilsner beer costs $9. Found out at the exhibition game in June. I had a burger & 2 pilsners, cost me roughly $25? Coke & popcorn from now on, $12 or nothing at all.
The season ticket seats that I’ve been sitting in all of my life were pretty easy for me to get to with a little help from my father. He’d push my wheelchair up 2 ramps, help me walk up 10-12 stairs, & our seats were directly in front of us. We’d have to walk about 5 feet, go down one step, I’d sit & slide over to my spot. I was unable to have any fluids in me for about 5 hours, the washrooms weren’t very accessible at the old stadium. We’d get there an hour before the game & be among the last 100 people to leave the stadium. We didn’t want to slow anyone down or get in the way. Someone always offered to help which was nice. Standard response “Thanks we’re OK, just slow”.
5 hours without any fluid, I’d chew sugarless gum. It kept my mouth moist. Dry mouth is a side-effect from my medication. When my mouth gets dry, I’m really difficult to understand! It sounds similar to me speaking after 5 alcoholic beverages!

IF YOU’RE HERE FOR THE UPDATE, THAT’S ALL THAT I HAVE FOR YOU TODAY.

I adore Foo Fighters, I have for a long time. I’ll admit they’ve made a few songs I wasn’t really into. Their new album “Concrete & Gold” has me worried. I’ve heard 4 songs in total from their September release. 2 of the songs I really like, possibly 3. There is 1 song I could do without, & that 3rd song might sound really good recorded rather than live, which is how I heard the 3 other songs other than “Run”

I got the new album by ‘Stone Sour’ on Friday. I’d have to say their new album “Hydrograd” is my favourite album of theirs along with “Come What (ever) May”. It’s a FANTASTIC hard rock album! I’m looking forward to diving deeper into it.

As for ‘Tool’ or ‘A Perfect Circle’, I don’t know, but either one would be welcome. I guess if you believe, bassist Justin Chancellor of Tool, they’re roughly 90% done the album. Yet, A Perfect Circle stated they’d be in the studio this year as well. That’s all the info I can dig up for you, take it with a grain of salt. With these 2 bands I wait to believe them until I’ve got the album.

We rented “CHiPS” a few days ago. A raunchy comedy rated R, definitely not for kids. Good for a chuckle for adults though.

OK, Stone Sour & Nickelback have both released albums in the last 2 weeks like one or the other or both. Just because you’re anti this doesn’t mean you’re pro the other. You can like both or not like either. Nobody has the right to tell you what to listen to. I’m not a Nickelback fan, they have their place though, just not on my iTunes. Millions of other people like them though!

I say leave Nickelback alone if you don’t like them. I’m simply not a fan of theirs. I bought 2 of their very early albums & saw them in concert years ago. I like Stone Sour, bring on the haters, I guess? Like em’ or not Nickelback has done very well!

Flashback to 1975. When ‘Blondie’ played at CBGB!

I’m always speaking on my behalf only. Just wanted to make that clear before writing this part. If Gene Simmons of KISS, can make money off of something, he’ll find a way to do so. I’m just waiting for the day he tries to trademark air & water……………….I don’t think that’s out of his realm? At least his latest effort was pulled back quickly due to rock & metal fans back lash!

I’ll catch you tomorrow, with a proper staycation update! In Canada we still have tomorrow off!

I fell asleep to a bit of “Judah & the Lion” the album “Folk, Hop & Roll”, then these 2 complete albums “Nothing but Thieves” the debut S/T album, “Paramore” the new album “After Laughter”

From yesterday.  I exercised to “Lamb of God” the album “Ashes of the Wake”

It takes me a while to fall asleep, music or not.

Pretty mellow start to our staycation, The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon & night, night time immediately after.

We’re bad at staycations.  We both want to do something productive & end up mildly doing something.  Kim tends to clean, I make a mess & occasionally exercise.

Why do we do staycations?  We like hanging out with our dog & we can’t afford to jump on a plane & go anywhere.  Brewster always has to be with someone.  He has bad anxiety issues when he’s alone or if there is a storm.  Once he hears thunder he immediately starts panting & scratching at the door or hides in the main washroom.

He has small valium pills he will only take if we hide it in cheese or deli turkey.  If he smells the pill, he won’t eat it.  Brewster makes our staycation somewhat normal for us?

We didn’t even venture out to my families cabin last year.  I guess we’re cheap & lazy?  I’m not very adventurous anyways, poor Kim.  I know she’d enjoy a trip.  As long as I get out of the house 1 or 2 times a week, I’m good!

How is the new ‘Tool’ album coming?  Ask bassist, Justin Chancellor.

I’m still not holding my breath for a new album this year.  It will be released when “Tool” wants it to be released.

Nickelback’s “Feed the Machine” album debuts at number 5 on the charts.  I’m not going to trash them, they’ve done very well for themselves!  Their lead single wasn’t bad for this album.  I’ve heard it 3 or 4 times though & I’m good now.

I fell asleep to “Soundgarden” the album “Superunknown”

I exercised to “Royal Blood” the new album “How Did We Get So Dark?”

Only 4 days, Kim took the day off, so did I!

160 pushups, 400 leg lifts, 400 crunches, 80 back flexes, 20 minutes of planking, some yoga.  Numbers stayed the same this week.  100 leg lifts, 100 crunches, 20 back flexes, 40 pushups, 5 minutes of planking & random amounts of yoga first thing every day!

Why am I still alive after stage 4 brain cancer?  Family, friends but mostly Kim.  She’s been my rock/island whatever Simon & Garfunkel were singing about?

I would have literally died.  She learned how to administer my TPN (food & water IV).  She did that, so we could go to the lake, sleep at home, go out to a few concerts, etc.  She came to every appointment with me!  She’d push my wheelchair until I was strong enough to do it myself, she would give me my pills at night or get a nurse to do so when I was too weak to push my call button.  She argued with the hospitals to sleep on a cot beside my bed at each hospital I was in, & would write updates on how I was doing in a Facebook group of 500 people!  She was truly “The Nurse Who Loved Me”

Would I change anything?  Maybe the cancer part of my life or my attitude towards the end of it all, but nothing else comes to mind.

I asked Kim if she’d like to go see “Wonder Woman” in the theater.  She said “Why do we need to go to the theater?  I’m right here!”  Well played Kim, well played!

Routine annual cancer check up at the cancer center.  Saw the doctor that routinely tells me to lose weight.  Instead of just calling me fat once this year, she told me 3 times that I should “lose weight”.  After the appointment we went out for lunch, I had fish tacos, I think they’re my new favourite food!  I hope it’s relatively healthy?  It’s not like I eat much unhealthy food or drink heavily, oh well,

If you’re here strictly for the cancer news, that’s all I have for you today.

LANGUAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Highly Suspect shared their video…..

Didn’t take him long to realize he was totally wrong!

This won’t end well?  Corey Taylor (Slipknot/Stone Sour vocals) vs. (Chad Kroeger Nickelback vocals).  All I have to say is, “Nickelback is diverse?  What did I miss?”  No doubt they’re doing well for themselves.  When you listen to Nickelback, AC/DC, or Motorhead, you know what you’re getting, I’m always up for some Motorhead!

It’s only June 23rd & it’s been a great year in music for me.  Big Wreck, The Watchmen, Linkin Park, Ed Sheeran, Ascot Royals, Paramore, Royal Blood, & these 4 albums yet to be released but I have them preordered!  I’ll have these by the end of September!  Most recent concert was Big Wreck w/ Ascot Royals opening.  FANTASTIC SHOW!

ACQUIRED BRAIN INJURY

I fell asleep to “Soundgarden” the album “Badmotorfinger”

Don’t feel as though you must open every link.

I have what’s called an ‘acquired brain injury’.  I don’t know of anyone else that has had my specific type of brain cancer.  It’s more common in children than young adults, that’s not cool.  I was in a program with other people who’ve had brain injuries.  We’d all get together to play games.  I didn’t get to go very often, Brewster is high maintenance & has anxiety attacks when left alone.  I’m sure there were people in the Wascana Rehabilitation Center that have experienced or future patients that will.  Sure it changes a lot of things, you just have to make adjustments yourself!  Do you have a child?  If you do, I can almost guarantee your life is different now than it was before having a child?  Life changed instantly & now it makes things slightly challenging or just different.  Nobody necessarily likes change & I totally get that.  I have a lot of help if I need it, there’s even a program at the WRC called the ABI program to help me anytime down the road if needed.  In the end, this being alive stuff sure beats the alternative!

My sciatic nerve is better, but there is still a tiny bit of pain there.  It’s still the best it’s felt since November.  I saw my massage therapist last week.  She said it was much better even before my massage.  After my massage she told me to see my chiropractor, she said I had a few ribs out of place.  I can’t feel anything out of whack in my ribs, just my lower back & a bit down my right leg.

Barenaked Ladies shared it.  Maybe they should take some time off instead of releasing an album of previous material with another group?

So I could go to Moose Jaw to see the “Offspring” a 40-45 minute drive to see a band that I’m a very, very casual fan of.  This was the first song my first band learned to play (I was but a singer at the time).

Or I could make the mind-numbing 2 & ½ hour drive to Saskatoon to see Ed Sheeran, who I really like.

I like Ed Sheeran, but I loathe the drive to Saskatoon & I’ve seen Ed Sheeran in Regina once.  Do I go to Saskatoon or hold out for ‘In Flames’ to come from Sweden to Saskatoon.

I can definitely say I don’t need to see The Offspring.  I’ve seen In Flames once or twice & wasn’t disappointed.  The sound for Ed Sheeran in Regina was dreadful & everybody watched 75% of the show through a cell phone.  Kim would prefer Ed Sheeran, so we’ll see how much tickets are?  In Flames have yet to announce any North American dates.

This show could be WAY over our budget?

Why does U2 need to reissue one of their biggest albums for $24.99 on iTunes with a bunch of older songs added to it?  ‘The Joshua Tree’ was roughly $25 in the ‘80s when it came out on CD.  Thanks, I bought it decades ago & it sounds fine.  32 extra songs from different albums that older U2 fans already own?  I don’t know how many people are newer U2 fans that would purchase this?  I’m a big U2 fan, but this just screams “CASH GRAB” to me.

I guess U2 was my absolute favourite band until I Mother Earth released “Scenery & Fish” in 1996.  Then Canada began their post-grunge movement.  Our Lady Peace, Matthew Good Band, The Tea Party, The Age of Electric, Limblifter, Moist, The Inbreds, Finger Eleven, Treble Charger, Econoline Crush, etc.  I guess you could put Big Wreck in here as well. Their 1st release was in 1997.

Let me set the scene for you, this happened quite often.  It’s 1996, my brother & I are doing dishes after supper.  Our parents have retired to the living room.  My brother & I are addicted to I Mother Earth’s “Scenery & Fish” album.  After a few minutes of the album playing in the kitchen our mother yells at us “TURN THAT CRAP DOWN!”  We turn it down, but not enough?  She yells again “TURN IT DOWN NOW!”  We turn it down more, now we can’t hear it.  So we turn it up.  This struggle goes on until the dishes are done about an hour later.

OK, does anyone gain anything in this scenario?  Do the verbal abusers gain anything?  This is just one example, in the end it’s just people hurting other people for being different.  WHY?

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/dear-lesbians-and-gays-im-bisexual-and-you-treated-me-like-crap_us_58c1a38be4b054a0ea68e31c?section=us_queer-voices&

I guess “The Black Keys” are taking a break.

http://www.rollingstone.com/music/features/patrick-carney-talks-black-keys-break-post-touring-ptsd-w471520

This group just drives me nuts for some reason, but so does Guns n’ Roses, couldn’t tell you why?

Whether you like them or not you had to know they’d get an award for sales at some point.  I just assume many people own everything Nickelback & lie to others saying “No not Nickelback, I hate them!”  Wait 4 minutes & the radio will change.  I don’t like them, but they’ve done nothing to harm me in any way.

I fell asleep to “Nirvana” the album “Bleach”

Had breakfast to a song stuck in my head “I Mother Earth” the album “Scenery & Fish”

No news on my schedule for my MRI yet.  Some papers to get tomorrow from my family doctor & wait for the appointment to be scheduled.  It’s weird.  Sometimes everything feels fine & the next time I try to transfer to my wheelchair, it’s a world of pain.  Makes me wonder if I really need to move?

I had asked my brother weeks ago if he’d take me to the Exchange to see an “Into Eternity” show.  He said he would, but I had to cancel, because of my nerve.  Last night we stayed in, Mitch & Rachel came over.  We had pizza & just hung out here.  Good thing, my nerve started acting up again.

Here’s good news for me & likeminded Blue Jay fans

Releases in 2017.  I’m not holding breath until I own the “Tool” album.  I am looking forward to “Linkin Park”, “Stone Sour”, & possibly “Paramore” & “Royal Blood”.  “Soundgarden” & “System of a Down” would be the cherry on top of the sundae

I fell asleep to “Big Wreck” the brand spanking new album “Grace Street”.  Yes, I got it last night.  I was quite tired, only got about ¾ through the album.  This album is more “Led Zeppelin” influenced, whereas the previous album “Ghosts” was very “Dire Straits” influenced.  This album will be on heavy rotation here for quite a while.  It’s REALLY great!

Don’t feel as though you need to open every link.

As for an exercise total 100 leg lifts on each leg.  50 yesterday & 50 today, this is to be a part of my stretching & exercise.  Things are getting much better!

The office for my physiotherapist called Wednesday morning & had to cancel my appointment.  I have the stretches to do & all is going well.  If it’s an emergency they’ll try to fit me in.  It is MUCH better than it’s ever been.  No pain, just a tiny/annoying tingling feeling in my foot when I try to do anything like standing up or doing my stretches.  So no worries here!

No, really, it has nothing to do with the hard rock or metal music.  These news reports are truly fake news.

New Nickelback song & it isn’t too bad.  I’m not about to become a Nickelback fan, but I’ll say this is a different formula for them.  I don’t hate Nickelback, I choose not to listen to them.  Save your breath, time, & energy.  It’s music & they’ve hit the sweet spot.

I don’t want to get your hopes up but there’s a lot of fake Tool stuff floating around out there.  That usually means the real deal might be on it’s way?

There’s a photo on Facebook with all of “Stone Sour’s” gear sitting in hard cases.  New album?  Their cover photo is them recording, months ago.

STICKS & STONES MAY BREAK MY BONES……………….

Broken bones will heal. Words can hurt, especially if the victim has a good memory & tends to dwell on such things. Swearing is just words, I don’t mind them, they’re words with no meaning for me. I’m not going to use them since the entire world has labeled them as bad. If you’re offended by profanity, that’s fine…………..I get it. You’re the one who has defined it as a bad word, not me. This may seem odd to many but if you want to hurt ME in particular, swearing has little to no effect on me.

I fell asleep to “I Mother Earth” the album “Scenery + Fish”

I Mother Earth is marking this year as the 20th anniversary of “Scenery + Fish” playing the entire album front to back & some other stuff!!!!! “Scenery + Fish” was their break through album, their 2nd of 4 albums released when I was 16 years old. It went triple platinum in Canada! This also marks 20 years since they played in Saskatchewan. I saw them at the age of 16 in Saskatoon on the tour for this album!

Hi everyone…yes been a bit quiet around here lately. That is about to change. 2016 is shaping up to be a pretty cool year for us and we just wanted to tell you a bit of what’s going on. This year is actually the 20th anniversary of our 2nd album, Scenery & Fish. That album did some pretty damn good things for us and took us around the world. It went triple platinum here in Canada, with four singles released from it. That shit just doesn’t happen anymore. So… we thought we’d celebrate a little. We’re hitting the road with S+F 20 Celebrating 20 years of Scenery & Fish. We’re going to play the whole album front to back as well as a bunch of other stuff to round the night out. A nice long evening with your pals, The Mothers. We have other announcements to come that fall under the S & F umbrella so please stay tuned…We’ve been busy. Anywhoo, here are the first couple of shows announced, more to come. Yell if you want us. Friday April 22, O’Brian’s Event Centre, Saskatoon. Saturday April 23, Casino Regina, Regina”

Nickelback” start work on new album.

Yes, I know it’s the “in” thing to hate “Nickelback”, what’s the point though? How about just don’t listen to them. I’m not a fan either. I like “Foo Fighters”, “Big Wreck”, “Alter Bridge”, “Tool”, etc. There’s likely at least 5 haters for every fan of these bands.

10 years” are back. I didn’t even know they were gone, I’ve never heard of them?

Ben of “Breaking Benjamin” covers “Korn”

http://loudwire.com/ben-burnley-korn-cover-breaking-benjamin-european-tour/

Top 10 important rock albums. I don’t necessarily listen to all of these, but I’d have to agree with this list. You could easily add more. The BIG ones for me are Nirvana, Radiohead, & Led Zeppelin! Just the “Physical Graffiti album from Led Zeppelin. Why aren’t the Rolling Stones on here?

I always get these 2 songs messed up. Just because they both have “rain” in the title. No Slayer’s not one of them.

Top Gun sequel is being discussed.

MY THOUGHTS ON THE MUSIC INDUSTRY!

IT’S A MUSIC BLOG SO ANYONE THAT LIKES IT CAN SUBSCRIBE! PASS THE LINK ON & HELP GROW THE SUBSCRIBER AMOUNT PLEASE?

Give the site a minute or 2 to load all of the links & everything should be fine.

Hard rock fans, buy this “Red Dragon” album by Room 333, which is compared to “La Gargola” by Chevelle! https://itunes.apple.com/ca/album/red-dragon/id917967693

Free music? Who just stood up & said “Musicians shouldn’t be paid for their job!”? I don’t agree with it & no matter where you get your music from the artist(s) don’t get paid for the albums or songs you get from whatever web site. I’m all for iTunes as you know, musicians get pennies from iTunes. So how do I support the bands I like? Hopefully they can afford to tour here & I get the opportunity to see them live. Here’s what’s wrong with that. If Taylor Swift comes to town, will I go to see her live? No. I only like the recent album “1989”, why? I’m not really a fan of country music & I assume she’ll preform songs from her previous albums, I don’t want to hear those songs. So here are MY thoughts on what should happen with the music industry, just my opinion.

Have the labels tell the bands to only release their stuff on one site in particular, most people have an iPod, iPad, iPhone or an iTunes account so maybe go with iTunes? The label & management get $1.00 per downloaded album, iTunes get $1.00 per downloaded album, & the artist(s) can take $0.00 – $18.00. If a member of a group has died let the estate choose in the same range. If you would like to purchase random songs make them a $3.00 charge per song, label/management, iTunes, & the artist get $1.00 each. Just my thoughts, don’t know if it will work or not. In the end you’ll own the music & not be tied down to a contract for a streaming site for your life & it’s less than buying a physical copy of the album, that won’t get scratched or roughed up over multiple years. I’m all for “digital” music. I really don’t have the space for vinyl, CDs, or cassettes. I also don’t want to have to visit multiple websites to own the music. There are 5.000.000 iTunes accounts in the world, and that’s all I know about. Still cheaper than my CDs in the range of $25-$30 each.

I guess that wont happen now that I think about it more. It’s exactly like the iPod classic now. Apple has discontinued the iPod classic (I have a 160gb iPod classic) when my iPod classic dies, Apple will replace with an iPod touch if I send it in. I don’t think I will. I have trouble controlling my hands & arms, touch screens aren’t so good for me, & it has a 120gb capacity. Apple is basically saying “Here it is, & now you can’t have it”. The same thing the music industry would be doing “Here’s free music, now you can’t have it”. “Here’s a donut, you cant have it, here’s some spinach”. Whatever happens a group of people will be quite angry. Even with these streaming sites, you’ve always been able to OWN your music in some form be it vinyl, cassettes, CDs or “digitally”. As long as I have the option to own my music digitally, I’m fine.

That’s a bold statement by Brandon Flowers of The Killers. I’d have to disagree. Muse, Royal Blood, etc. It’s subjective! Remember “One Direction” said they would be bigger than The Beatles.
