Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

5 day exercise total; 400 pushups, 600 leg lifts, 450 crunches, 200 tricep lifts, 450 squats, 300 back flexes.

I fell asleep to “Soundgarden” the album “Badmotorfinger”

I exercised to “Nothing But Thieves” their first self – titled release

Right out of the gate, I have not been in a bad mood since early 2012.  My depression crept up on me & exploded last week.  My stubbornness is genetic, but that’s no excuse for it.  My depression showed me last week that, as hard as I try, I can’t control it.  So as of this post I have yet to hear anything from a psychologist or therapist.  Psychiatrists give you pills.

I’ve seen a psychiatrist & I’m on 2 anti-depressants in the morning & 2 anti-psychotics over night.  The pills are not enough though.  I need to speak with a professional who’s not a psychiatrist.

Tuesdays & Thursdays are the days of the week I despise.  Those days I find very difficult exercise wise.  Each of those days are 200 pushups & 100 tricep lifts.  I feel good after I get those exercises done.  Before I do them you probably would be better off not talking to me.  That’s why I do them ASAP after I wake up.

What do I do after my exercise each day?  My exercises take me about 1 ½ hours each day, then I watch the late night talk shows, Stephen Colbert & Jimmy Fallon.  Then a sports talk radio show on TV, maybe part of a movie, or just listen to music & stretch out on the couch.  If there’s something I can do around the house.  That always takes priority after my blog is posted.

Somewhere in there I have a small lunch of fish or a lettuce wrap with Dijon mustard, a slice of cheese & turkey deli meat.  Breakfast is always a hardboiled egg, a ½ glass of veggie juice, & a piece of fruit.  There’s always a shower in there too!  0% yogurt with blue berries for a snack or rice crackers & hummus.

When Kim comes home we watch “The Ellen Degeneres Show” & then I get to practice walking with my walker usually.  We’re still trying to make that a part of our routine.  I don’t usually want to do it, but I know I need to!  “Yay, more exercise” – said no one ever!

Their songs don’t suck!  They’re just very similar.  I still have “Feed the Machine” on my list to purchase!

Lars Ulrich did something good for a change!  I’m sure he’ll contradict himself, as usual, in a week or two.  ‘Streaming music is hurting the music industry’!  One week later ‘I have 9 iPods in my house, full of music from Spotify’!  I like Metallica.  Lars has always bugged me, even before the “Napster” ordeal, which he was right about.

I watched “Aquaman” on Thursday & it’s AMAZING!  I should have seen it in theaters.  I rarely see a movie in theaters now, but I should!

JANELLE MONAE

I saw her performance on the Grammy Awards, & thought “WOW!  A song that sounds heavily inspired by Prince!”  I got the album later that week.  I know nothing about her other than the album “Dirty Computer” is really good!  She has other albums out, 2 or 3 I’m not sure.  There’s not a song on this album that’s not labeled as explicit, so beware there is LANGUAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

I fell asleep to “Lacuna Coil” the album “Broken Crown Halo”

I exercised to “Reignwolf aka Jordan Cook” from Saskatoon his first full album that I’m undecided if I’ll purchase.  “Hear me Out”

5 day exercise total.  I actually lowered 3 totals too much, the numbers are wonky this week.  There will be regular numbers for each exercise next week….I hope!

220 pushups, 600 leg lifts, 300 crunches, 220 tricep lifts, 340 squats, 300 back flexes.

Pushups & tricep lifts are done on Tuesdays & Thursday.  Everything else is on Mondays, Wednesdays, & Fridays.

Some might think I’m scared of being dead, not so.  I am sacred of how I’ll die though.  Even though I was told, long after the fact, that my cancer would’ve likely came back in 2013.  That obviously didn’t happen, thank goodness!  I exercise a lot but there’s not much to exercise my brain with.  Other than baseball & word search puzzles.  I’ll likely get some actual puzzles in the near future.

Kim has taught me how to use our stove & oven, I’m still a little iffy with our pressure cooker & I’ve never used our popcorn maker.  I’ve got microwave popcorn until that day comes.

I’m not mentally handicapped, just physically handicapped.  If I need my wife to teach me how to use an appliance I just ask, or try to figure it out on my own if it won’t burn me.

The DC movies are trying to fix the DC universe.

From what I’ve been told, the next season of Criminal Minds will be 10 episodes for the SERIES finale.  My favourite show on TV.  15th & final season

Modern Family was supposed to end after this, it’s 10th season but they’re not done.  There will be an 11th season.  I’ve heard that it will also be a 10 episode season.

Skip to the 5:00 minute point in the video.

I’m more than anxious for this album to be released!  That will make 6 fantastic albums for me this year!

Why do I prefer iTunes in comparison to streaming music?  Here’s a few reasons.  I prefer to own my music.  I believe that if anyone has done something for you or something you appreciate, they should be paid.  A song is made by the artist who pays $100s if not $1000s to book a studio & a producer to record just 1 song, the song will then be sold for a fraction of a cent, iTunes isn’t much better though, I can buy a 10 song album for $9.99.  Streaming music might be the real issue.  Jack White of “The White Stripes” stated a few years ago that he has limited funds & can’t afford to tour as much.  More bands/artist need to have money to go on tour.  If they’re not selling their albums, how are they supposed to go on tour?  Finally, it just doesn’t feel right.  I had a ton of music that I downloaded illegally & didn’t feel right about it & ended up buying the CDs & iTunes files for these reasons.

I do like the album “The State” by Nickelback that was released in 2000.  I don’t hate their music.  If Nickelback is playing over the P. A. system in a restaurant or bar & it’s a song I don’t like, I’ll wait 5 minutes for something else to come on.

DREAM THEATER   (Distance Over Time)

This is probably the first band that comes to mind for metal fans when they hear the words “progressive metal”.  They released their 13th studio album on February 22nd, 2019.  Reminds me of older Dream Theater stuff with the exception of being just under 1 hour long.  Their last album “The Astonishing” was really not very good.  34 songs as a double album.  I think they went for more quantity than quality on that one?  This new album “Distance Over Time” is much more familiar to fans of the group, in a good way.  Familiar but also new & refreshing.

The singer doesn’t growl or scream.  He’s a classically trained singer with a great voice!  They’re all classically trained actually.   Here’s a few songs from this new album….

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

Music throughout the weekend.  “Dead Sara”, “Nickelback”, “The Beatles”, “Nirvana”, “Big Wreck”, & “Devin Townsend Project”

LANGUAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, Nickelback’s album “The State” I enjoy once in a while.  I don’t need anymore.  I had 3 CDs & gave 2 of them to my aunt in Alberta.  Hate them if you want but they’ve put in the work to get to where they are.  I wouldn’t call myself a BIG fan, but Nickelback has their place in the current music scene!

Friday ended with me doing dishes, running the dishwasher, & vacuuming.  Kim picked up some steaks to BBQ, then we watched the last 4 episodes of “The Ranch” on Netflix.  I started watching the baseball game right after.  Kim pipes up “Hey, let’s watch the rest of The Ranch”, I reply “We did, it’s done.  We finished the 5th season.”

She’ll leave her phone on the arm of the couch to do some stuff in the kitchen.  Someone will text, email or Facebook something, I’ll tell her or move it away.  It vibrates the entire couch, drives me nucking futz.  If I wanted a vibrating couch we’d likely have one, not a cell phone.

LANGUAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  & SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Saturday we were boring.  Laundry, cleaning & some sitting around watching www.youtube.com clips, like this almost 24 minute video.  Followed by supper & a baseball game.

Went out this afternoon to hang out with Chris, Laurie & their 2 kids.  Grabbed a few groceries for supper.  Then I’ll watch the Jays game well Kim finish’ her weekly spring cleaning.

20 years ago today, June 24, 1998 I had my high school graduation.  In the yearbook there’s a photo of me at the after grad party with the biggest cheesy grin you have ever seen!

HOLY CRAP!!!!!!!!!!  “Damage Plan/former Pantera & HELLYEAH” drummer Vinnie Paul has died.  I guess now he can be with his brother who was shot on stage as a member of “HELLYEAH” in 2004.  He was also the guitarist in Pantera.

METALLICA’S “HARDWIRED……TO SELF-DESTRUCT”

I used to just demolish Metallica whenever I heard a song or mention of their name, but no more, other than the album “St. Anger” which has 0 production of any kind.

This album was released in 2016.  I was 36 at the time.  Their first album “Kill em All” was released in 1983.  “Hardwired” was the first album I enjoyed of theirs.  Only took Metallica 33 years to release something I liked.  I had about 3 of their CDs & iTunes downloads.   The album with the symphony was decent, I didn’t listen to it much though.  I had “The Black Album/Self-Titled” album & “Master of Puppets”.  The first band I played in, everyone else was a fan of Metallica.  That’s why I had those 2 CDs.  I found “Hardwired” to be a ‘gateway’ album into the rest of their catalogue.  I now have all of their studio albums, & the live album with the San Francisco Symphony.  I do enjoy the albums I’ve heard so far.  I just need to listen to “…And Justice for All” & of course “St. Anger” sounds terrible due to the severe lack of production.

“Hardwired” was the album that grabbed me & made me finally pay attention.  I still think they’re over rated, but very talented.  Name another metal band that gets FM radio play as much as Metallica?

I’d say in the last 15-20 years my musical taste has changed drastically, listening to more heavy stuff.  I just find it easier to accept & listen to.  I can either ‘unplug’ & enjoy it or really think about what each musician is doing.

I always thought “Anthrax” was the perfect mix of metal & punk music, & they’re great.  This “Metallica” album does it really well.  It sounds nothing like “Anthrax”, just a different take on those influences.  Here’s one “Anthrax” tune followed by a few tracks from Metallica’s “Hardwired”

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

I fell asleep to “Terrifier” the album “Weapons of Thrash Destruction”

I tallied up my exercise totals so far for this year & here it is; 4800 crunches, 5470 leg lifts, 7230 pushups, 2145 tricep pushups, 1860 back flexes, & 2390 squats.  Still a bit disappointing to me.

Kim & I went to a boxing event/fundraiser at “The Conexus Arts Center”.  The local “Lonsdale Boxing Club” where Kim used to go, with other boxers from Saskatchewan against an Irish boxing club.

I can’t watch boxing on TV but live I find it very entertaining!  I don’t know that much thought went into this though?  “Let’s invite an Irish boxing club & their fans here on March 16th, fill the Irish fans with alcohol as they get primed for St. Patrick’s Day.”  Hahahahaha!

At least we weren’t paying for the banter or music.  “Regina’s Rock Station 104.9 The Wolf” hosted the show, & now I know why I stopped listening to that radio station oh so long ago!  Michael Ball aka Ballsy from the morning show was the M.C.  Most rock fans say “Less talk, more rock”, not for me Friday evening.  “Less talk, less generic rock, more box!”  Way too much filler, not enough killer!  At first I thought Kim took me to a Nickelback show?  Pyro, lights, & Nickelback booming over the P.A. system.  I started to think “What did I do that made her mad at me?”  Nothing, 2 Nickelback songs followed by some of my preferred music.  Led Zeppelin, Lynyrd Skynyrd, & Big Sugar.  Fun night though.  I quite enjoy live boxing.  11 fights, 3 rounds of 1-2 minutes in length in total.

Sorry if you like Nickelback, I don’t hate them, I choose not to listen to them.  If you’re a fan, that’s great that you’ve found a modern rock band that you enjoy.

Saturday/St. Patrick’s day we stayed in & watched a couple of movies.  “I, Tonya” & “Justice League”.  We rented “I, Tonya” which was really good but I don’t need to see it again.  We bought “Justice League” on Tuesday, it was AWESOME!  Everyone says it’s so bad, I absolutely disagree!  I must be off my rocker, because I really enjoyed “Batman vs. Superman”, “Suicide Squad”, & “Justice League”!  “Wonder Woman” was just OK for me.  My only issue with “Wonder Woman” was that it was a period piece.  From what I know Wonder Woman did not intervene in any war?  But what do I know.  All of these other movies are works of science fiction, check your brain at the door, enjoy your popcorn, & be entertained for a few hours.  I don’t know what everybody’s looking for in a comic book/action movie, because I thought “Justice League” was among the best comic book movies made!  Superman’s moustache was un-noticeable to me.

Today, we went for brunch with my brother & hopefully future sister-in-law.  No pressure bro!  Now it’s time to hard boil some eggs, cook some fish, do some more laundry, watch a spring training game, etc. & get ready for the week ahead.

BIG WRECK

I was finally 19, legal bar age, & was able to see this band that an older co-worker was raving about.  WOW, he was right!  This band was AMAZING!  The original 4 members dropped out of “The Berkley School of Music” to create Big Wreck.  1 Canadian & 3 Americans.  Ian Thornley, the vocalist by vote of the band, was the only Canadian in the group, yet they toured Canada 3 or 4 times a year.  I always went, I couldn’t get enough of them.  If they were in Regina, I was there!  They released their 2nd album in 2001 & broke up in 2002.  2002 was the last time I saw them.  However I saw them a minimum of 10 times during those 4 years.  They disbanded & Ian Thornley started a new band called “Thornley” for me they were OK.  They released 2 albums in 10 years.  I read many newspaper articles that Ian Thornley was interviewed for & stated his unhappiness while doing “Thornley”.  2012 Big Wreck reassembled with a different line up.  3 guitarists, bass player, & a drummer.  Only Ian Thornley & guitarist Brian Johnson were in the original line up.  Not that it matters but Brian Johnson was now the only American in the group.  The 3rd guitarist left since he wanted to spend more time with his family.  Since 2012, Big Wreck has released 3 full length studio albums & a live EP with a cover of “The Cars” “Good Times Roll”.  Here come the Big Wreck songs & the last 2 are from the 2 “Thornley” albums………………….

Here’s one song from each “Thornley” album.  He makes it very clear that this was a band, not a solo project.

This is well done but don’t mess with classics, like an Elton John song.

LANGUAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SERIOUS LANGUAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wait, so he kept buying Radiohead albums & listened to them despite hating them.  NOW he’s ticked off.  Nobody forced him to listen to them?  WOW, rage issues much?

I fell asleep to “Kelly Clarkson” the album “Meaning of Life”

Exercise total for the week, 200 crunches, 300 push ups, & 100 squats.  2 days of 3 exercise.  BOOOOOOO!

As far as exercise this week, I’ve been feeling quite lazy.  Monday I only did 3 of 6 exercises, Tuesday I did nothing, & Wednesday was the same as Monday.  Just lazy & tired?

OK, I’m out for the week, congested, dry mouth, & a cough.  For me this usually means catch you next week.  I woke up Thursday this way, so I know what’s coming.  I felt a bit better during the day, after taking some Dayquil, but it’s worn off, Nyquil here I come, you too Vicks!

What a waste of a week.  I’d much rather have had the energy to do my all of my exercises.  Other than a disc bulging in my spine early last year, I don’t think I’ve been sick as much as I was before cancer?

I was sick VERY often while working & even fairly frequently in school as well.  Not cool at all.  There was a day that I was so sick I almost called Kim to come home.  My fever was so bad that I had trouble walking.

If you want to find me today, I’ll be on the couch blowing my nose, on Dayquil.

Well that makes 2 album releases in March (for me) now.

Myles Kennedy – Year of the Tiger (March 9th)

Stone Temple Pilots – Stone Temple Pilots (2018) release March 16th

https://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/stone-temple-pilots-preview-new-lp-with-roll-me-under-w516053

I like most of his solo stuff, but I prefer his work in “Alter Bridge”.  Here comes solo album number 4.

I completely agree with this!  Streaming sites & even iTunes have made music VERY disposable I believe.  On the plus side any type of “Social media” & cheap music has me purchasing more albums & new artists.  There are pros & cons to both.  Now I don’t buy all of the new albums.  I know what I’ll purchase & what I don’t need to purchase!

Read all about “Suits” moving on with the end of season 7 into season 8!

http://www.usanetwork.com/suits/blog/katherine-heigl-joins-suits-as-series-regular-in-season-8

It’s on Netflix or Bravo on Access Communications in Saskatchewan.

What I don’t/will likely not understand but acknowledge is that so many people hated “Batman vs. Superman” yet it was the #1 movie in the world for 2 weeks.  A lot of people are the same way with “Nickelback” yet they have over 18,000,000 fans just on Facebook?  Why waste your time hating a band?  Just don’t listen to them, works for me?!  I liked this song INITIALLY.

I couldn’t care less if you like or don’t like this band or this movie.  Everybody’s opinion is valid.  Just don’t waste your time or energy on hating art?

I fell asleep to “Corrosion of Conformity” the new album “No Cross No Crown”

4 day week total.  My muscles were very sore Thursday, I only did 3 of my 6 exercises & I was tinkering the numbers this.  Now I’m sick today, no exercise today.  I feel fine but my stomach completely disagrees.  All of these totals will be out of whack.  My exercising is now 50/50 of walking in the future & shedding around 25 pounds.  I developed terrible eating habits since I was doing so much therapy/exercise that I could eat ANYTHING & not gain weight.  I actually went down 2” in waist size.  I finished my therapy, & all of the weight went straight to my belly.  Everything else looks like I’m good.  My doctor didn’t even say anything about my weight.  My cancer clinic doctor will though.  Really need to do some cardio.

586 pushups, 400 crunches, 300 leg lifts, 135 triceps pushups, 120 back flexes, & 190 squats

That amount of exercise tires me out.  I need to do more if I’m ever going to “…walk again…”

I’m on anti-biotics now.  When I gave my urine sample, they found that I have a bladder infection.  I’m glad that’s all they found after testing my blood & urine, could have been much worse!

A TON of fans of whatever band think bands should change their name when a member leaves or is added.  This is my reason why they shouldn’t.

“Alice in Chains” had their singer die & now it’s basically guitarist Jerry Cantrell & friends.  “Stone Temple Pilots” just got a new singer after their original singer died a few years ago.  ¾ remain & singer Jeff Gutt just joined.  I don’t think Jeff Gutt & friends likely wouldn’t work.  “Foo Fighters” could have changed their name 6 times.  “Big Wreck” could have changed their name 3 times.  “Trivium” has released 9 studio albums & have had 7-9 different drummers.  “Finger Eleven” was known as “Rainbow Butt Monkeys” & recorded 1 album under that name.  They got a different drummer & changed their name to “Finger Eleven”, that’s fine, not many people knew who they were.  They don’t have an everyday drummer now.  They toured with a session drummer for the last album.

“Into Eternity” currently have one original member of 5 members.  The 4 other members have changed individually many times.  “Pearl Jam” took drummer Matt Cameron when “Soundgarden” broke up in ’97.  When “Soundgarden” came back he was doing double duty, drumming for both bands!  “Lamb of God” released their first S/T album as “Burn the Priest”.  They were banned from places & changed their name for their 2nd album to “Lamb of God”, I don’t recommend the “Burn the Priest” album to anyone.

So what should “Soundgarden” or “Linkin Park” do if they both get a different lead singer?  Nothing like starting from zero, “…where (nobody) knows your name…”?

  1. Alice in Chains

2013

  1. Stone Temple Pilots

2017

  1. Foo Fighters

2017

  1. Big Wreck

2017

I could go on & on, but you get my point.  Once you’re famous or somewhat famous, you wouldn’t want to start from scratch again in a band.  They have all been there & done that already, no need to do it again.  I wouldn’t, if I had too!

It’s coming, “Super Troopers 2”.  Trailer inside the link, LANGUAGE!!!!!!

Sorry “Nickelback” fans but this was too funny to not post.  No disrespect to “Nickelback” or their massive amount of fans.

I fell asleep to “Paul Simon” the album “Graceland”, “Pearl Jam” the album “Yield”, & finally “Ozzy Osbourne” the album “Blizzard of Oz”

I exercised to “Odds” the album “Nest”

How did I deal with being physically disabled, very bad, I felt useless & I wanted to hurt anyone I could.  I wanted everyone to feel as bad as I did.  After a few months & a stern talking to from my brother, parents, & wife I finally snapped out of my rut, got over it, apologized to those I had hurt privately & publically, & moved on.  All of it was heavy baggage that got too heavy because of my poor reaction.  I was just angry at the world.  So I dealt with anger & depression.  The worst struggle with it I’ve ever had with it.

If you’re ever considering suicide or if you’re in a rut, please talk to someone that is more than willing to listen.  Please don’t ever think of yourself as a burden to anyone.  You’ll be surprised at the number of people you’ve had a positive effect on & how many people love you & care about your wellbeing.  I’ve never called a suicide prevention hotline, but they’re there & more willing to listen. 1-877-4747 if you prefer talking to a stranger about any type of mental illness, be it a friend, family member, or yourself don’t hesitate to call.  The sooner you let it out & talk to someone, the sooner you can relax & get the burden off of your back.

I got lucky, I’ve talked with my high school guidance counselor, university counselor, social workers, my doctor, a psychiatrist, my wife, & my parents.  Now I’m OK & not embarrassed to talk about it.  I used to be & it was a topic I tried to distance myself from.  Don’t be ashamed about it 1 in 5 Canadians have some type of mental illness.  I’m on medication for my depression, don’t be embarrassed if you’re told to do the same.  A lot of mental illness’ can be caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain.  The proper medication can be quite useful.

Think of it this way, if all of that doesn’t make sense.  If you have the flu, cold or anything like that, you probably go see a doctor, right?  So if you’re dealing with any type of mental illness, more serious than a flu or cold, go talk to a doctor.  Maybe you’ll be referred to someone more knowledgeable on the subject, but you’ve started a conversation about whatever you’re dealing with so just see it through now & meet them half way if needed.

When I’m talking about mental illness, it does not just mean depression.  It includes OCD, ADD, ADHD, etc.

THAT’S ALL FOR WHAT’S ON MY MIND & CANCER TALK!  HERE COMES THE POPCULTURE STUFF!

Dear Corey Taylor & Chad Kroeger,

Get over the feud already!  Will this matter in 20 years?  NO!  Your music does not sound comparably similar at all.  Who’s better?  It’s subjective!  Your devious plan worked!  Nickelback released an album, you 2 started a feud, and Stone Sour released an album.  Both albums hit number 1.

Sincerely,

Chris (a music fan)

A new single from Trivium!  Just the single, no album from what I can tell

Since it is but a single, I bought it & attached it to another Trivium album or I’d never hear it.  I still have issues with “The Crusade” & “Shogun” although many people call “Shogun” Trivium’s best album.

Wow, 1 week in the White House & ‘The Mooch’ is gone

The Foo Fighters’ “Concrete & Gold” album had better be a really good one or I can see Paramore’s “After Laughter” taking multiple Grammy Awards home.  I don’t really put much stock into award shows, but some are fun to watch.  Believe it or not, I know “Lamb of God” has won a Grammy & have been nominated several times.

Another ranking of one of my preferred bands, Queens of the Stone Age!

Can’t wait for the new album August 25th!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Of course I got into them on their 3rd album with Dave Grohl on drums!

3rd album with Dave Grohl on drums below!!!!!

Help them out!  Remember that despite all of the division in this world YOU ARE A GLOBAL CITIZEN!  If that’s too big for you to understand try this.  You don’t have to understand sexuality of another person, just acknowledge that it’s happening if you like it or not.  Remember, every human bleeds red, but no one should bleed.

Royal Blood’s single is up for best track “Lights Out”

Pentatonix new single “Dancing on my Own”.  Single only $1.29 on iTunes.  Bought it & attached to their full length album.  If I left it as a single, I’d never hear it!  I listen to albums, not a jumble of songs.

Figure it out people!  LANGUAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The average age for a kid to get a cell phone is 6 years old.  Why does a 6 year old need a cell phone?  I’m 37, I had a cell phone for a year 27-28 years old.  The cell phone didn’t save my life, at least not that I know of?  If celebrities like Ed Sheeran & Louis C.K. can survive without a cell phone, I can too!
