Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

5 day exercise total; 900 leg lifts, 1,200 crunches, 300 squats, 300 back flexes, 150 pushups, 800 curls (10 pounds), 500 tricep extensions (7 pounds), 400 shoulder raises (7 pounds).  Stretching & yoga.

I fell asleep to “Opeth” the new album “In Cauda Venenum”

I exercised to “Billie Eilish” the album “When we all Fall Asleep, Where do we go?”

I’ve recently (month & a bit ago) resumed playing/practicing my guitar limited skills after somewhere around 11 years.  I was always a singer first though.  A guitar on stage was something I picked up to hide behind.  I wasn’t a metal growler or screamer, I was a singer.  No, my friends & I are not famous anywhere unless you’ve been to a handful of watering holes in Regina.

It was a hobby that I really enjoyed, outside of dragging my gear home at 2:00 am.  I play at home now with a much smaller amplifier & pedal system.  I have three 6 string electric guitars & an acoustic guitar.  I never purchased any of my electric guitars.

My first guitar ever was an electric my parents bought me for my 21st birthday.  I learned a bit prior to that on my mother’s old acoustic guitar so I could help my friend learn bass.  I’ve never taken a guitar lesson, I’ve played piano when I was 8 & 9 years old, flute from grade 6-10 & high school choir from grade 10-graduation.

I just picked up the guitar initially to help our cover band’s bass player out.  He had never done anything musically before, so I did what I could along with 2 other friends to help him out.

My 2nd guitar I bought for myself, my acoustic guitar.  I play it when I’m too lazy to go the extra 10’ to plug in an electric guitar to my amplifier.

My wife bought me my 3rd guitar for our first Christmas as boyfriend & girlfriend.  She wanted to learn so I bought her a blue acoustic guitar for the same Christmas, she specified the colour.

My 4th guitar I got from a very good friend of mine while I was recovering in the Wascana Rehabilitation Center from stage 4 brain cancer.  It is signed by “Big Wreck” singer Ian Thornley.  Other than my Epiphone Explorer my wife bought me, this is the only popular brand name guitar I own, made by Fender guitars.

There would be no point in me having three 6 string electric guitars in the same tuning, so all 3 of them are in different tunings for a reason.

I remember the majority of the guitar parts I played in my first/cover band so that’s where I started.  More fun to play a song as I build up the strength in my fretting hand/left hand.

I’ve also been watching quite a few guitar clinics online to learn new songs.  All of this gives me something else to look forward to the next day other than just exercise.  I’ve gotten stronger, & now I can do more things, around the house, for my wife, our now old dog, my friends, & myself.

The way I see it is, if I’m not a part of the solution, I’m a part of the problem.

She said it much more eloquently than I would have!  Well done & I couldn’t agree more!

Wait a minute……………..I’ll be 40 in January.  I’m a Muse fan & a Rush fan.  Are they talking about me?

I saw this earlier this week.  I’m out of touch with the hip cool thing, oops!  First time I’ve heard them.  Haven’t decided if I’d purchase this yet?

GOO GOO DOLLS

90s alternative radio acceptable “rock” band.  Acoustic based rock band.  From the USA.  They appeared on quite a few movie soundtracks during the late 90s & early 2000s.  Can’t say I listen to them much anymore but I do own a Greatest Hits album.  I did own a couple of their CDs back in the day.  I have no problem with them, it’s just not my go to music.

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

Music throughout the weekend.  “U2”, “Muse”, “Odds”,

Friday I stayed up late to watch the Blue Jays win their first game after a 5 game losing streak.  They also made me look like a genius though.  Socrates Brito was cut Friday afternoon & Jonathan Davis was called up from AA to play center field.

Of course we watched some shows we both like first, “The Ellen Degeneres Show” & “World of Dance”.  “World of Dance” is recorded for Kim, if I never see it again I’d be fine & not have to bite my tongue.  We both love “The Ellen Degeneres Show”.  I record it in the afternoon & we watch it as soon as Kim gets home.  Kim’s been working overtime this past week.  Brewster lays down & stares at the door waiting for her, usually he waits for her around 4:00 pm.  Friday he was waiting & whining at 1:00 pm?

Saturday I spent WAY too much time online looking for ear buds.  Almost everything requires Bluetooth or only available online.  Having an iPod classic that still works is not great all of the time!  I fall asleep to my iPod & I’ve ruined my 2 recent pairs of ear buds.  The “Bose” ear buds I got for Christmas 2017 lasted 6 months & Kim’s Apple ear buds have no to little audio in the left ear bud.  Before that I used “Senhieser” ear buds from 2013 until 2017.

Every type of ear buds from Best Buy are only available online or the ones in store are $100 – $350.  I found some cheaper ones at London Drugs, but Kim had left to get groceries by that time.  Kim went out grocery shopping while I watched the baseball game.  She came home, made supper, & I handled the dishwasher & the hand wash dishes, that’s quite common here.

Today we (Mitch, Rachel, Kim & I) made brunch.  My parents & grandparents came here for brunch.  Mini quiches, banana bread, toast, fruit, yogurt parfaits with granola & fruit, & coffee.  I’m going to take care of the dishes, since Kim did the shopping & cooking despite my offering to help.

Kim has to grab 2 or 3 things & I’ll hard boil the eggs for the week & I’ve already made my vegetable juice for the week.  It felt weird putting away the bread.  There’s usually no bread in our house.

Alter Bridge are done recording their 6th studio album of 14 songs.  Mixing shortly!  Facebook status is as follows…

“Tracking for AB 6 is now 100% finished!  Mixing starts very soon.  Can’t wait to share these songs with all of you”

A new Big Wreck should be out soon I hope!  So far they’ve released 2 singles only.  I was hoping that Friday’s single would be a preorder on iTunes.  I get pretty anxious waiting for an album to be released when I get a single or preorder for it.

ANTHRAX

One of the big 4 in metal.  Anthrax, Metallica, Megadeth, & Slayer.  Anthrax seems to be the best mix of punk & metal of the 4.  The other 3 lean more towards the metal side of things.  I have 15 of their albums, a friend of mine had them & he’s a big fan of them, & 80s metal in general.  I’m not going to give you a song from each album.  I’ll give you 3 earlier songs & 3 songs from recent albums.

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

I fell asleep to “Muse” the album “The Resistance”

I exercised to “Boston” self-titled album, followed by “Kelly Clarkson” the album “Meaning of Life”

Monday I got up & dressed in my exercise clothes.  I did my exercises. Then I wrote my “WEEKEND UPDATE” post, well I finished it.  All of the beginning music links was stuff I listened to on my iPod or in the car on my iPod coming back to Regina.  I grabbed those links Sunday night.

After 3 days of me being away, I thought Brewster would miss me, boy was I wrong!  I came into our condo, & Brewster just looked at me as though he was thinking “Humph, he’s back I guess”.  Dad was helping me with some of my tiny bags, he came in right behind me.  Brewster was much more enthused to see my dad than he was to see me.

He was freaking out on Monday while I was making my veggie juice & boiling eggs for the week.  He even asked to be up on my lap.  He put his front paws on my knees for me to pick him up, which happens very rarely unless you’re Kim or her sister.  Kim told me that he really doesn’t like the sound of our instant pot when the steam is released.

So as of Monday I got as much done as I needed to for the week (food wise).  Kim relaxed on the weekend as I told her she needs & deserves to.

I was speaking last week about my mental health & specifically about my depression.  I mentioned that I was stressed, frustrated, & stubborn.  Both stress & frustration self-inflicted.  I always think, “I NEED to do more.  I can do better than this!”  I am my own worst critic, & brain cancer is what made me expect more from myself.   The stubbornness is in my genes from my mother’s side of the family, mostly my grandfather.

I’d exercise with equipment at my parents’ house in a short lived university student career.  I was in much better shape way back when.  I didn’t know how to study really, so I took WAY too many study breaks at home & spent my time exercising, mostly doing pushups, sit-ups, & dumb bell curls.

I’m no expert on any type of mental illness, I do understand that 1/5 Canadians deal with their own mental illness.  I don’t know of any that do on a daily bases, if I did, it’s not my story to tell.  I personally don’t find mine to be something to hide from anyone.

I guess those that have a mental illness will deal with it however they choose to?  I guess it’s the same way a gay person chooses to announce being gay.  Probably many issues mostly wondering/worrying how others will react.

So I hope you’ll join me as I go into this new adventure?

The 4 big albums I’m waiting for this year are follow ups to these 4 albums

2006   10,000 Days

2016   THE LAST HERO

2017   GRACE STREET

2015   STURM UND DRANG

I think it’s high time to get over “Creed” & move on to “Alter Bridge”!  They’re “Creed” with music lessons & a tenor singer with INCREDIBLE range!

I’ll take “Alter Bridge” 9/10 times.  I do enjoy the first “Creed” album quite a bit though.

LENNY KRAVITZ

I do enjoy some of his stuff, not all of it, but most of it.  He’s 54 years old & from New York.  He’s a solo artist/singer song writer.  Plays really good guitar while doing lead vocals.  Some of the stuff he does baffles me.  I only have 2 albums “Mama Said” & a “Greatest Hits” compilation.

1991   MAMA SAID

2000   GREATEST HITS

LANGUAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

Music throughout the weekend.  “In Flames”, “Mark Morton”, “The Damned Things”, “Dream Theater”, “Muse”, & “The Watchmen”

The rest of Friday was quite tame, Brewster had trim on Saturday at 8:00 am.  We had enough time to get coffee & cinnamon buns to go.  He loves the groomers & only takes about an hour to get a wash & trim.  He smelled like coconut & still does a bit.

We were tired & had a nap.  Kim on the couch, I got onto the floor to sleep beside my Homeslice, who immediately got on the couch with Kim.  They curled up on the couch together, & I used Brewster’s favourite blanket as a pillow on the floor.  Once I got off of the floor I watched some preseason baseball along with 2 Guiness beer.  Irish beer that’s way too dark to make green.

She’s got a TON on her plate today.  Today Kim is finishing her homework for her photography class, I’ll do some cleaning, she’ll get some groceries & finish the laundry.  I’ll boil some eggs & make a veggie juice for the week.  Then we’ll relax.

DAVID BOWIE

You know him & you either like him or can’t stand him.  I have no problem with him.  One of my dad’s favourite music acts, & yes unfortunately he’s no longer with us.  I only have 2 “Greatest Hits” albums & the album “Tonight” so here we go…..

This is what you play in the car on your way to your in-laws when you get a call from your Realtor that tells you, you have your first house.

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

SHORT WEEK, I’LL CATCH YOU ON FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Music throughout the weekend.  “I Mother Earth”, “Led Zeppelin”, “Black Sabbath”, “Megadeth”, “Testament”, “Trivium”, & “Metallica”.

My aunt & uncle were here from Alberta over the weekend, we went to my parents place to see them on Saturday.  Rachel was somewhat under the weather.  My brother was there with their new puppy Frankie.  Right now she’s smaller than my parents’ dog, who is just over 5lbs.  Once she’s full grown it will be Goose at 5lbs, Frankie at 9lbs, & our old man at 12lbs.  He just turned 13 on January 31st.  Frankie’s tough though sharp puppy teeth.  It was more of a “HI FRANKIE!……………………Oh, hi Mitch.  Now we have 2 “nieces”.  One is named Hannah, a human, the other is Frankie, a dog, Brewster’s cousin.

Sunday was a wake up at 5:00 am day?  Why, I don’t know?  We had groceries delivered just shortly after 8:00 am.  Helped Kim put them away, boiled some eggs, made my vegetable juice for a 4 day week, just some laundry to put away, & our human “niece” was here for a sleep over.

After an exhausting Sunday, I was all out of gas, & then came the couch.  I slept well last night, 5:00 am wake up, no nap, 2 cups of coffee, +25C in our suite, & a very energetic girl.  I did sleep more last night, but I still needed a coffee, 3rd one of the month I believe.

Cleaned up the sticker books, paints, & a few Legos, along with all of the dishes before I went to bed on the couch.  Kim & Hannah were in the bedroom & asleep by 9:30 pm.  I think I hit the couch around 11:00 pm.

Today we get to visit with a friend of mine & Kim has to take some photos for her photography class.

So that’s 4 tours in the last 2 weeks that will be anywhere but Saskatchewan.  Playing one night in Toronto does not make it a world tour, I’m looking at you “Muse”!  They didn’t even release the one day showing in Saskatchewan theaters of their previous world tour.

That’s one of the reasons I purchase music from iTunes instead of streaming it.  That & my iPod Classic works fine, if I went to streaming, I’d have to get an iPod touch or an iPhone, so I’ll stick with iTunes for now.  Kim has Apple Music that I can use to hear a full album on before I purchase it.  I want to give musicians some cash for doing their job, & I tend to buy a T-Shirt at a show also.  In Saskatchewan I’ll likely see 1/10 of the bands I listen to.

Oh, the declining Apple products…  This is pretty much common knowledge, among my inner circle, & sad.  Ever wonder if Apple had it right & just need to fix the stuff that is now trash.  I’m an iTunes user & the changes to iTunes have really got me thinking about jumping ship.

A TON of cell phone users in Ontario & other parts of Eastern Canada complaining on Friday about an Amber Alert on their cell phone.  They wanted a cell phone, so deal with all of the stuff that comes with it.

DIXIE CHICKS

I’m using the 4 CDs Kim has.  I don’t listen to them much, but I do like them.  There’s probably some twang in there but it doesn’t bother me at all.  They’ve got an acoustic guitar, banjo, & fiddle along with many other instruments when needed.  They came to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan after I was out of my therapy.  Kim went with a friend & I should have gone too, bad call on my part!

1998   WIDE OPEN SPACES

1999   FLY

2002   HOME

2006   TAKING THE LONG WAY

I wish they we’re making new music today.  I’m not a big fan of country music & Kim’s not a fan of metal or rock.  I can deal with “Dixie Chicks” & she likes this song by “Tool”

I exercised to “Muse” the album “Simulation Theory”

Please donate to the Canadian Red Cross for my birthday on January 30th?  Still 7 weeks left to donate.  I don’t even know whose blood is in me, however, it did save my life.  The goal is $1000, just started & were at $60.  I used to donate blood, but now I can’t.  Donate money, blood, refreshments after a blood donation, or any way you can, please?

Kim told me on the weekend not to make any plans, so I didn’t.  She comes home from work yesterday & tells me “We’re going here on this day & here after that, then these people are coming here & later on these people are coming here.”  She’s hilarious, but it’s all marked down & I’m up for it.  This is why I let her make the plans or include her in an email or Facebook message.

She’s working from home today.  She’s been feeling like there’s a cold coming on since Sunday.

Every day I think to myself “I’ll take it easy on myself”.  Then I go all out to achieve the amount I have set out for myself.  I do the full amount & realize that “OH SNAP, I’ll be sore tomorrow”!  I didn’t pace myself in to this year, I just went all out beginning January 2nd, that was dumb on my part.  Not too painful to stop, just enough to tell my body “HEY, IDIOT, PACE YOURSELF!”

No hot water Monday.  1 of the 2 water heaters died aka I festered in my filthy sweat all day.  Tuesday it was replaced aka then I smelled & felt better!  On Tuesday, I did crash my head on the inside top of the fridge.  I need to stand up for something on the top shelf of the fridge, 2nd shelf of the upper cupboards, or the 2nd shelf of the pantry.

I guess I’d better get my sorry butt to the movies.  I missed “Bohemian Rhapsody” in the theaters & “Aquaman” could be missed in theaters also!

We did watch “Bird Box” on Netflix.  I highly recommend it.  It’s a thriller, not a horror movie.

Hear the late Chester Bennington on Lamb of God guitarist, Mark Morton’s, solo album.

Here’s part of the reason I have issues with country music.  The main reason is, it’s pop music with a thick Southern accent.  I really have issues with any Southern accent.  Kim was listening to the audiobook for “The Help” & then the movie, I couldn’t handle the southern accent, but I made it through the movie.

Also, someone please explain to me how does Carrie Underwood, Lady Antebellum & many more fit into the country music genres?  How different is their music to Taylor Swift’s pop now or Taylor Swift’s country & now pop?

I know I’ll get some backlash on this since I listen to metal & rock.  I’ll take some older style country music.  Like the Walmart yodeling kid.  At least he’s doing actual country music instead of generic pop music with a twang.

Here’s a country music fan on the state of country music.

THE BIG 4 OF METAL

Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, & Anthrax.  I like all 4 bands, Slayer in small doses though.  They’re all great & I think out of the 4 Metallica might be the most remembered when they retire.  Slayer are on their final tour.

My question is, are Metallica a metal band, a rock band or am I jaded?  In Regina our rock station only plays the odd Metallica song, but nothing from the other bands in the big 4.  Is it because they’re generic enough to play on the radio or because they’re a house hold name?  I can guarantee you’ll never hear the other 3 bands on the radio in Regina, maybe Anthrax but not likely.  Another question, why wasn’t it the big 5?  Pantera was a power house, they should have been included!

I’ve heard many songs from Metallica on the radio though, I like Metallica I’m not trying to dump on them.

Now, with Slayer retiring, who will take their place in the big 4?  I’ve heard other people mention Lamb of God, which would be great for me, but not for other fans of metal.

Don’t worry, these are the radio friendly rock songs by Metallica.

So, would you classify these songs as metal or rock?  These are some of the Metallica songs that are played on the radio.  I’d put their first 5 albums & the recent album as metal, pretend St. Anger was never made & call the other albums rock albums.  How would you break them down?

Please share this, I’m not profiting from this at all.  Word of mouth is the only way of promoting this.

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

I fell asleep to “Coheed and Cambria” the album “Good Apollo I’m Burning Star IV…”

I exercised to “Dead Sara” the album “Dead Sara”

This is a bit late today, sorry.  We had eye appointments this morning.  Then we came home to do my exercises after & Kim bolted to a meeting at work.

So I guess this makes me 10 years & 4 days cancer free.  The doctors thought my cancer might come back in 2013.  Thankfully it didn’t.  I would have been disappointed, & I wouldn’t want others to freak out, but many would have.

I’m not scared of death, I’m scared of how I’ll die though (hopefully in 50 years).  I’m not afraid of being dead though.  Hopefully it means that I’ve accomplished all that I needed to & it’s my time to go.

How were my holidays?  Very good, but glad to do something productive aka I’m ready for a break from my break.  I got to see my wife’s family for our first Christmas this year, Kim’s aunt Lorna was here too!  They were here from the afternoon of December 20th & drove home on the afternoon of the 24th.  Then we had our second Christmas with my family at my parents’ place.  Family from Calgary & Winnipeg came here this year too.  Good holiday, great time seeing so many people!

We had multiple Christmas’.  Kim’s family, my family, Timothy Wong & his son Nicholas, Chris Hutton & Laurie with their 2 kids, & Corey McDonald & Jolene with their 2 kids.

Exercise total for 2018; 26,675 pushups, 14,560 tricep lifts, 26,710 leg lifts, 7,660 back flexes, 15,220 crunches, 14,440 squats.

FYI – I DON’T LOOK AS THOUGH I’VE DONE MUCH EXERCISE AT ALL?
