Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

Welcome back to the program!  You’re here so if you like what you see, might as well subscribe?  Either on Facebook or with your email in the bottom right corner, it’s really that easy & it’s free!  I know you want to tell your friends, go ahead!

Exercise total for 5 days.

500 Curls w/ 20 pound dumb bells

300 Shoulder raises/Chest presses w/ 10 pound dumb bells

900 Crunches

900 Leg lifts

300 Squats

450 Back flexes

1:05 hour of yoga over 2 days

2020 has been a rough year to say the least, for pretty much everyone I assume, even me.  Being in quarantine has been fine with me but just opening my Facebook or watching the news can bring me down.  I turned 40 this year and I claimed that this would be my year.  That hasn’t changed at all, but there have been a few additional/minor obstacles along the way.

I finished my exercises on Tuesday, responded to a few emails & Facebook messages.  I was in here just WAY too long, ate my lunch & then crawled back into bed completely exhausted and slept until 5:00 pm.

When I woke up, the news of Eddie Van Halen passing from cancer at the age of 65 was EVERYWHERE on social media.  I was never a fan of Van Halen, they were always just there & once in a while I’d get a song of their’s stuck in my head.  Him passing is a BIG thing among rock & metal guitar players or most musicians in general.  He developed many guitar techniques, he wasn’t just a REALLY good rock star.  I’m pretty sure that a TON of the bands I listen to currently wouldn’t sound the way they do without having heard Eddie Van Halen play guitar.  If you don’t know him, you’ve likely heard him.  Michael Jackson got him to play the guitar solo on “Beat It”

When you first go to listen to “Eruption” you just think you’re going to hear a song but you end up listening to a 1:40 minute guitar solo.  TONS of people, not me, will emulate it but Eddie created it.

This is Eddie Van Halen playing “Eruption” live in concert.  It’s long but it may help you understand his impact on any guitar player that has heard him.

I said I’d put out a small handful of videos of me playing guitar.  Mostly for me to deal with my anxiety.  I’ve picked 3 songs to do & they will trickle out when I feel they’re good enough.  All Led Zeppelin songs are new to me on guitar.  I’m just going to focus on getting these 3 as perfect as I can & hopefully I don’t freak out with a camera on me.  Of course I’ll put out abreviated versions.  Foo Fighters have been my favourite band since I saw a video on Much Music (Canada’s MTV) from their second album.  So I play a LOT of Foo Fighters stuff.

Not only is exercising daily helping me, but I’m also eating healthier, cutting out coffee & tea, while seriously minimizing my alcohol consumption to 2 oz. of Baron Samedi spiced rum on the rocks or a beer every 2-3 weeks.  I never really drink anything other than water most of the time.  A side effect of my pills are dry mouth, so I just keep a liter of water beside me all day & I usually fill my water bottle at least 3 times a day, even on weekends.

When we got to our friends’ place last weekend, I stood up out of the car.  When I did that I quickly realized I wasn’t holding on to anything or using my arms to get up & out of our vehicle.  I immediately grabbed hold of the vehicle door.  Since February of 2008 I’ve never done that.  I startled & shocked myself at the same time.

Now that I own a PRS S2 I totally get this.  It’s a very easy to play instrument and whatever brand name is on the headstock of a guitar shouldn’t matter.  If it’s your instrument and it works for you, that’s why you have it & use it.  Even the mastermind, Paul Reed Smith himself, says that if he plays another guitar and prefers it over something PRS has made, he’ll buy it & use it.  My first guitar, a Tradition Les Paul, is great and would be the closest rival to my PRS S2 in many aspects also the furthest from my PRS S2 in many other aspects.  I’d like to say to anybody reading this, I’m sorry I took you through such a deep dive on my new guitar.  Everything I said is true so I was excited about it.  As for the topic of pickups or tone wood having the biggest effect on the sound, that’s up for debate for many people.  I think the wood used makes a HUGE difference but the next person could prove me wrong.

I watch a TON of guitar related www.youtube.com channels full of demos & reviews.  Here is a guy, who I believe lives in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan (2 ½ hours north of Regina), that was scammed by ordering a guitar made oversea where they produce knock off look-a-like guitars for a fraction of the price.  I’m glad I’ve never experienced this problem.

It’s October in Canada.  Typically we’d see snow here by now.  With climate change, the winters seem shorter the last few years.  I just heard our air conditioner turn on.  Winters are cold here, I wear shorts year ‘round since I’m usually inside, people think I’m crazy because it’s cold out, & summers are TREMENDOUSLY hot!  For it to be +30 Celcius in the summer or + 40 in July is a strong possibility.  In the winter -50 Celcius isn’t a stretch.

I turned on the news briefly on Wednesday, this is what I learned in 6 minutes or so.  There’s a bomb threat at the mall downtown, the President is contagious but back in the White House & high as a kite on experimental medication & steroids nobody will receive until approved, & 19 people in the White House have tested positive for the virus.  What did I learn from the news?  There’s a crazy person downtown & the President learned nothing after being in the hospital for the virus……and that’s why I try to avoid the news!

It was like watching a trailer for the sequel of “White House Down”.

You know what would be nice?  If we could all deal with our own stuff & not bother anyone else.  That would be nice but somebody or something always stirs the pot.  WHY?

I guess watching the news wasn’t enough punishment for me so I watched the Vice Presidential debate.  My opinion doesn’t matter on this since I’m a Canadian living in Canada, so I can’t vote.  It still a boils down to one question for me.  Does anyone want 4 more years of what’s going on now minus the Coronavirus?  If you answered “Yes” vote for Trump, if you answered “No” vote for Biden.  Nothing has changed for me.  I know where I stand on many of the issues addressed in the debate & I know how I’d vote if I had the chance.  Were in a pandemic, what else was I supposed to watch?  I know that for some reason science & facts don’t seem to matter right now but a fact is that the planet, because of climate change, can’t take 4 more years of the current administration in the USA.  Unless most of us die of something else before 2050, there’s a pretty good chance we’ll see the end of the world.

Here it is a nice long weekend in Canada!  Thanksgiving weekend!

P.S. Sleeping has been terrible all week.  Nap on Tuesday afternoon, 5:00 am up & doing stuff Thursday followed by a nap after my exercise.  Today I just wanted to stay in bed, I got up a little after 8:00 am.  I like to be awake & doing my exercises by 7:30 am.  Thursday was odd I slept oddly and woke up with a SORE left hand middle finger, I couldn’t make a fist.  Very little guitar playing yesterday.

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

I fell asleep to “The Sword” the album “Ages of Winter”

I exercised to “Black Sabbath” the album “Heaven & Hell” Ronnie James Dio sang on this album, not Ozzy.

New Year’s resolution going well so far.  Walking with my walker & Kim’s assistance already more than last year!!!!  YAY walking practice…..BOOOO!

In Canada we have free health care for the most part.  Of course not everything is free when it comes to health care, which I understand & pretty much agree with.  There is one thing I don’t understand & wouldn’t even think of unless I was in this position.

Under the federal health care plan, I’m given $1000 once in a lifetime for a wheelchair.  I don’t think I’ve seen a wheelchair under that amount?  The wheelchair I left the WRC with was free from Sask Abilities, as long as it’s returned when you’re done with it.  Right now it’s here as a backup in case something should happen to my new chair.

What will a $1000 cover on my chair?  The inflatable cushion, which I had from my previous chair.  I think my new chair cost $6500-$7000.  Again I’m not complaining, I don’t think any federal politician would realize what the cost of a wheelchair is aka I think they’re a bit out of “touch” with a physically disabled lifestyle?  In that respect, I don’t think any of them would know that?

Not every other person is in a wheelchair, so it’s not a widely known fact that they are a hefty expense.  $1000 in this case helps, a bit, but really not much.

Dave Grohl scored the movie.  This is one of the 2 songs that have vocals.  The female voice is Louise Post of “Veruca Salt” a ‘90s band.  She & Grohl were dating at the time.  I had to get HMV, at the time, to order this CD as it was only released in the USA.

MICHAEL JACKSON

Everybody knows who Michael Jackson is I assume.  I saw a video on www.youtube.com calling him a metal fan’s guilty pleasure.  I don’t believe in guilty pleasures.  Just because a person tends to enjoy a certain genres of music, doesn’t mean they can’t appreciate a different genres.

I wish I had a gang that could also dance really well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

I fell asleep to “Foo Fighters” the album “Concrete & Gold, followed by “Trivium” the album “The Sin & the Sentence”

Friday carried on with me watching the Blue Jays first pre-season game & some of the kids, I think, have a chance of making the 25 man roster.  All of that said, it was one game.  I watched the game & Prime Time Sports with Bob McCown.  I only watch the first hour on Fridays to hear the call in hour for other people’s opinion on whatever they want to talk about, or anytime of the week when he announces what the topics will be & who he’ll be talking to.  Kim came home & as usual we watched “The Ellen Degeneres Show” then the Olympics until we went to bed at 10:30 or so.

I missed 3 of my favourite “Winter Olympics” events.  Ski jump, Speed Skating, & Hockey.

Kim got up early Saturday to go out for coffee with Jolene.  Then off to see a medium.  After going to see a Medium she was home at 5:30 pm.  We hung out on the couch, had supper, & watched some of “Friends” on Netflix after “The Legend of 420”.

I don’t use it, but you go ahead.  It is said that it can help cancer patients.  It was never recommended to me, although I know it can be useful.  I personally choose not to use it.

Kim went out this morning for groceries.  I cooked fish yesterday for my lunches during the week.  Made a veggie juice for the week.  We visited my Grandparents for a bit.  My cousin, her husband, & their toddler were there also.

We’ll be hard boiling some eggs & doing laundry.  Just our usual Sunday, getting ready for the week ahead.

Prince was the first musical act I was into, but Michael Jackson was never out of sight.  I saw the video for “Thriller” & was pretty much hooked on him for a long time.  When the album “Dangerous” was released & the video for “Black or White” was released, it was an event in my parents’ house.  Of course there are songs I’m not a huge fan of, but most of his stuff I’ve always enjoyed.

All I own for Michael Jackson is the albums “Dangerous” & 2 “Greatest Hits” albums.  I made an album of 30 songs on iTunes that I’ll listen to all the way through.  “All killer, no filler” – Sum 41.  That album was mostly filler for me.

In Flames, Opeth, & Dream Theater seem to be under constant fire for not being as “heavy” as they once were.  Unless you’re a flat out metal fan, heavy isn’t always necessary

MONDAY IS FAMILY DAY IN SASKATCHEWAN.  WEEKEND UPDATE WILL BE ON MONDAY NOT SUNDAY

Every day I wake up & for a very brief moment I think to myself “Crap, this is my fault”.  NOBODY blames me for this, it’s all in my head.  I get over that by the time I transfer to my wheelchair & carry on with my day.

1000 pushups, 700 leg lifts, 500 crunches, 250 tricep pushups, 270 squats, & 200 back flexes.  For exercising I drink TONS of water.  My bottle holds 700 ml.  I have at least 3 a day or sometimes 5, 0-3 cups of black coffee, & my vegetable juice/smoothie in the morning.

I fell asleep to “Michael Jackson” a “Greatest Hits” album, followed by “Into Eternity” the album “The Scattering of Ashes”

I exercised to “Paramore” all 5 albums on shuffle.

Yes I’m still having the same issue with my iTunes.  I haven’t been able to reach the guy working on my case.  If I’m desperate another person at the call center is willing to help me or I know of a different software to use.

Usually a turkey wrap or a piece of fish for lunch.  An apple or honey dew melon chunks for a snack & something relatively healthy for supper.  Very little alcohol on weekends, 4 drinks in total or less, some weekends no alcohol.

Even at Rider football games I don’t drink alcohol, $9 for a can of generic beer???  Are they crazy????  I could get a pack of 15 cans for $18?  NO!

TV shows are making a comeback.  “Will & Grace”, “Rosanne”, on Netflix “Friends”, “Full House”, older “The X-files”, “Fuller House” new “The X-files” on cable.  “Jurassic Park” has comeback as “Jurassic World”, “Ghostbusters” had a reboot, I hear “Murphy Brown” is coming back, there’s probably something I’m missing?

So are writers out of ideas or was the public pushing for all of these reboots?

‘90s bands live on or have gotten back together as well to tour or record as well.  “The Tea Party”, “Our Lady Peace”, “Soundgarden” until the early passing of Chris Cornell, “Big Wreck” have released 3 albums & an EP since their return in 2012 after 10 or 11 years, “The Watchmen” are touring a bit, “I Mother Earth” is touring, “Smashing Pumpkins” aren’t done, “Guns n’ Roses” reunited, “Garth Brooks” is back I hear, etc.  No I’m not going to post a link for each band.  Just 3 or 4.

These restore my faith in humanity!!!!!

New “Royal Blood” video!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does this mean “Muse” is releasing an album?

The more you share this, the more readers I get.  No, I’m not profiting from this in any way.  I can’t tell who’s reading this but thank you!

Friday ended for us going to “Chop” for supper with Sherry.  James stayed behind with Brewster.  Very good, yet pricy!  I don’t know where Kim found the money, but her sister came with us & paid for all 3 of us.  Thanks Sherry!

Saturday not great.  A) I called a customer service line.  I spoke with 3 different people + time on hold between each caller.  ½ hour or more on the phone.  The final person can’t help me & says as a sign off “Good luck with that!”  REALLY!  Did you learn that from Trump helping the flood victims in Texas?  He’d help out others & say “Have a great day!”  B) Roughriders lost to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.  Fortunately the Toronto Blue Jays actually won, in a game that meant nothing.  Strong rum & Cokes were flowing here after the incredibly stupid call.

I’ve been on the customer service side of things, all you have to do is agree with the customer.  They’re always right, at least that’s what they want to hear.  They’re usually wrong though.  The customer typically has no clue as to what’s happening behind the curtain.  I never lose my cool on a bad customer service representative, if I’ve tried to work with them & still have a problem, I calmly ask to speak with a manager that can help me.  Ranting & raving gets you nowhere, so why bother getting upset?  It’s something that doesn’t make anyone happy.

It’s like road rage.  You’re going to rant & rave while driving me somewhere I didn’t do it, nor can I fix it for you.  Unless you’re going to talk to whoever is driving the other vehicle, I don’t need or want to hear it.

Sunday we got up, found a legal loop hole for my problem & didn’t have to call the customer service line.  All is well!  I’m getting tired of fixing their problems though.  I’d stop using this product but it’s pretty much a monopoly.

“They’ve got us by the short & curlies…”

Made a juice for the week, some laundry to fold & put away.  Once that’s done, couch, baseball or Netflix!

Friday finished with me coaching the Jays on TV & then the Roughriders.  Both lost.  I’m either a terrible coach or I’m not shouting loud enough?!

Fairly quiet Father’s Day.  We celebrated Father’s Day on Saturday at my parents’ house.  My brother BBQd steaks for 11 of us. Mitch, Rachel, my parents, grandparents, my aunt & uncle, my aunt’s parents, us, & my aunt’s friend Lori.  Lori’s a part of the family & has been for as long as I can remember.  Saturday I woke up around 9:00 am & had breakfast, watched the Toronto Blue Jays lose again! Finished emptying & re-loading the dishwasher & then it was off to my parents place.

Honestly a pretty regular life in a wheelchair.  I did scrape my left ankle on something here on Saturday.  I didn’t even notice until I crossed my legs with my ankle on my right knee.  Then I noticed mass amounts of blood on my knee & ankle.  Didn’t feel a thing, cleaned it up & carried on, more of a hassle than anything.  Rub a little dirt on it & forget about it!

Sundays here are quiet.  Baseball, couch, groceries, & preparing for the week ahead!

If you’re here for the update news, that’s all I have for you today.

I rarely listen to the radio.  We had some errands to do.  Kim runs into where ever we are & I flip through the 3 stations I can tolerate.  I usually can’t find anything I like but on Saturday afternoon & again in the evening I heard these 4 songs & turned it up!!!

I use “Google Chrome” on my desktop PC. “Safari” works on my mother mac laptop as a browser if you come to the site. Facebook links & youtube links do not work or even appear on my mother’s email, but she can see EVERYTHING when she comes to the site itself.

I can’t see who comes to the site but I can see how many times a country views the site. From now on I recommend you come to the site. Consider the emails as a facebook notification that there’s a new post.

Kim has an E.D.O. tomorrow. That means no blog on Friday this week. Be sure to watch the Rock It Out Blog on every Friday especially. Really good discussions on Fridays! I’ll be here checking email & facebook tomorrow.

Rock It Out Blog from Wednesday. Yes, every musician with a roadie should be really thankful for their roadie(s). That’s something I don’t miss, hauling my guitar amplifier & guitars home at 2:00am after a show. Roadies have a difficult, thankless job, so difficult there’s a roadie school!

In Flames, “Take this knife”

That’s still not as bad as the snare drum on their “St. Anger” album

I’m still a U2 fan, just not a hard core fan like I once was.
http://www.rollingstone.com/music/videos/watch-u2-perform-sweetest-thing-with-bono-impersonator-20150527 This song first appeared on the 1980 release of “Boy” then again on the album “Under a Blood Red Sky” released in 1983.

Now heavier music is my thing.

Summer’s changing landscape for rock music through the decades.

IF Kerry King ever learns how to guitar solo on key, then I’ll be a Slayer fan.

Good grief he’s dead let him R.I.P. & leave his family alone. No amount of money can undo whatever happened in the past whether it’s true or not.

Look at that! Third Ion above Pantera’s Greatest Hits album currently sitting at number 14! Can I ask what the heck is Five Finger Death Punch doing on a metal chart, or any chart for that matter?

Dave Grohl’s facebook page shared it, so here it is I think this is my favourite track on the new album.

I asked a question yesterday about Tool & got zero responses, that tells me you either missed it, don’t like Tool, which is fine or you’re not reading this. It’s interactive, so I’d really like some feedback. If this site is just for me, there’s really no point in me writing it. This is more for other people, not me.

Man I’m old! 24 years ago Smashing Pumpkins released “Gish”. 1991 I was 11 years old & hated “grunge” music at the time.

Songs I like. “HIM” courtesy of Elka Blahbledyblahblah! I think I’d have to go with the original Chris Isaak version.

Why did this turn into a music blog? Because “music is a BIG ^%$#@&*^* DEAL”-Dave Grohl

“Learn something from your mistakes and don’t do them again”

“I feel good about the good things and bad about the bad things”-David Eric Grohl
