Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

Music from this weekend!  “Dead Sara”, “Big Wreck”, “Foo Fighters”, more “Dead Sara”, “A Perfect Circle”, & “Nothing But Thieves”.

STRONG LANGUAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Friday was regularly quiet, that’s getting old, but everyone is tired on Fridays.  I get to cram 8 hours of energy in 1 – 1 ½ hours in the morning & plant myself on the couch until I feel like showering in the afternoon.  Most people have to spread their energy out over 8 hours or more. I get to use it all right away, then rest.  I’d like to do something on Friday night, but I understand why others don’t want to do anything.

Saturday was, wake up at 7:00 am, go back to bed & sleep until 11:00 am.  Kim went grocery shopping with her sister, I made my weekly vegetable juice & took care of some dirty dishes while she was out.

For supper, Kim picked up some steak to BBQ to go with the sweet potato fries.  So Kim, steak, beer, & football for a Saturday night, pretty sweet deal here!  B.C. lost to Calgary which means the Saskatchewan Roughriders have a home playoff game next weekend against arch rivals the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.  Whenever Winnipeg is in town, it’s always a fun game!

Today is hard boiling some eggs, baking some fish & such, getting ready for the week ahead.

Dream Theater, Big Wreck, In Flames, Megadeth, Lamb of God, Alter Bridge & Tool (which I’ll believe when I see it) have all started the writing &/or recording process for release’s next year!

You will NEVER hear this song by Tool live!  Rumor is Maynard James Keenan couldn’t speak for 3 weeks after recording the vocals?

JACK JOHNSON

7 studio albums in total.  I own 6 of them on CD.  He’s from Hawaii & does a lot of surfing.  He would film himself & his friends surfing.  I think he put his music on the videos & then started releasing his music to the masses?  Don’t quote me on that last comment.  The 3rd album has the song for our first dance at our wedding, we had a hard time finding a song we agreed on.  I seem to prefer his first album though?  Anyways, here are a few songs from his first album….

I fell asleep to “The Struts” the recent release “Young & Dangerous”

I exercised to “The Beaches” the album “Late Show”

There was nothing wrong other than Brewster had an anxiety attack.  I Woke up at 8:30 & went out to have a small breakfast & exercise.  I did my pushups & tricep lifts.  Everything was going fine.  I had 2 sets of tricep lifts to do, then Brewster anxiety flared up.  He’s going to be 13 in January.  I finished my exercise around noon.  I was occupied trying to calm him down the rest of the time.

Usually he’s sleeping all day or we’ll play for a bit if he feels like it.  We have small breed doses of Valium for him, but I don’t like watching him trip & stumble every time he gets up.

After looking online he’ll about 66 dog years old or 13 human years old in January.  I spent the majority of the morning yesterday trying to calm him down & make him feel safe.  He was shaking uncontrollably.

He’s our child, yes, he has 4 paws & turns me into putty with his big brown eyes when he looks at me!

I wonder if there’s a “Hole” reunion with Melissa Auf Der Maur around the corner.  Possibly a “Smashing Pumpkins” reunion with her taking the place of D’arcy Wretzky as she did before.

Cool!  Chester Bennington (deceased singer for Linkin Park) recorded music with Lamb of God guitarist, Mark Morton, & we’ll get to hear it in 2019, along with a new Alter Bridge album, Lamb of God, Megadeth, & more!

As with every passing year we must include Tool.  Tool should just wait “10,000 Days” from 2006 to release new material at this point.  Roughly 27 years in total from 2006.  It’s only been 12 years at this point, we might have to wait some more?

I REALLY like “Pentatonix” but I don’t need a 4th Christmas album from them.

DIEMONDS

There is no reason for me to like this band, but I do.  Think of 1980s hair metal or Guns n’ Roses.  They’d fit right in.  The majority of the hair metal bands & Guns n’ Roses aren’t in my wheel house.  This is a current band out of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.  I missed them playing in town last year or the year before.  I didn’t think to look them up before the show, only after the show.  I’ve got 2 of 3 albums & there’s also a 7 song EP I don’t have.  So here is what I do have…..

I fell asleep to “Dead Sara” the album “Pleasure to Meet you”

I exercised to “Big Wreck” the album “Grace Street”

I had breakfast to “Bruce Springsteen” the album “Born in the USA”

Great weekend & needed break at the cabin, then Monday came.  I did 5/6 exercises, I might scale it down to 4 but we’ll see?  Of course Tuesdays & Thursdays will be the other exercise(s).  One weekend of an actual break from exercise & scenery worked wonders for me!  I need to do that more often!

Yes, we watched the Saskatchewan Roughrider game on TV at the cabin.

I always listen to music, but especially when I bummed out.  Cut out all of the non-sense around me & dive into the music.  I guess “Lzzy Hale” of “Halestorm” does the same?

ALTER BRIDGE CONCERT BLU-RAY

Alter Bridge released their first studio album of now 5 in total back in 2004.  When I heard the singer’s voice, I knew it sounded REALLY good & very familiar.  Yes, the 3 other guys are the guitarist, drummer, & bassist from the band ‘Creed’.  I still listen to the first ‘Creed’ album, but not very often.  The singer’s name is Myles Kennedy.  I realized, after my time in the hospitals, that he was in a band called “The Mayfield Four”.  I saw them in 1999 or 2000 when they opened for “The Watchmen” & “Big Wreck”, I then figured out that he sang inaudible backing vocals on “Big Wreck’s” 2nd album on the song “Breakthrough”

I found the first Mayfield 4 album & the 2nd album is available on iTunes.  Myles Kennedy is now the singer for “Slash feat. Myles Kennedy & the Conspirators”.  I bought one Slash album on iTunes & I just never have the desire to listen to it, despite the FANTASTIC vocals from Myles.  Here’s a track from each of “The Mayfield Four” albums.  I’ll follow them up with a few tunes from the blu-ray of “Alter Bridge” but keep in mind the orchestra is much more prevalent in a surround mix.

NOW THE ALTER BRIDGE BLU-RAY

As a brain cancer survivor, I find that I have less energy than others who haven’t had brain cancer.  I can’t speak for others who have had different types of cancer & yes, I know more people who have had cancer than most people think, & I don’t know who was in the Wascana Rehabilitation Center for cancer related issues.  Either way that really isn’t my story to tell.

I know that not everyone wants to blab about their personal brush with cancer whether they’ve had it or know someone who has.  This blog wasn’t my idea, it’s meant to keep people up to date on my recovery & I agreed to it, I hope someone will benefit or is benefitting from this?

This is supposed to help with my hands, I find that I tend to use my index finger & thumb on each hand.  My left hand is useless & really isn’t steady at all to this day.

I had absolutely no energy or get up & go in me this week.  I was tired & sore, it was time to listen to my body.  So the exercise total is pitiful at best, for me.  I expect a TON more out of myself.

5 day weekly total; 200 pushups, 0 tricep pushups, 50 back flexes, 200 leg lifts, 100  crunches, 120 squats.

Music from the week; “Finger Eleven”, “Dead Sara”, “Halestorm”, “Megadeth”, “Metallica”, & “Coldplay”.

Release on Friday, October 26th.  New album from “The Struts” (2nd album) & “Into Eternity” (6th album)

I’m going to hold off on the “Into Eternity” album & hopefully get it at a show in town.  You can find it on www.bandcamp.com for $15 as well.

My opinion on this subject tends to be met with fierce aggression.  You have right to your opinion as much as I do.  You can call me any name you like & I will gladly feed the rope!

You’d think a band like “Lamb of God” would be rich, you’re totally wrong!  They play multiple sold out venues every year all over the world, no not every show is sold out.  They record, they tour & what is there biggest source of income?  Merchandise that they’ve paid for to sell at their shows.  Not album sales, not streaming sites, not tour tickets, MERCHANDISE.  Think of how many people they have to pay for a concert or recording an album.

They go home to Virginia & do normal stuff, I’ve got it on video.  Fix/build a deck, cook, race cheap almost dead cars, go to a chili cook-off, etc.  What a lavish lifestyle for musicians of this century!  Just because it’s legal doesn’t mean it’s right.  Go ahead, drink more of the punch!  If you think that’s rude, you deemed it that way.  My opinion is that streaming music is terrible at best.  Wait until I tell you how I really feel!  Might as well chain smoke tobacco & become an alcoholic.  They’re both legal too, & they’ll kill you………..literally!  Ah crap, you have to pay for them, well that’s out of the question then?  Yes I drink, not in excess.  3 drinks tops on a Friday, & 3 on a Saturday.  If it’s a special occasion, only until I’m just a wee tipsy.

I only bring this up because iTunes are phasing out music downloads to compete with streaming site Spotify.  Both streaming services pay a very low amount to any musician.  CDs & downloads are said to be gone by the end of March.  I use iTunes for music mostly, & renting movies on occasion.  With music downloads going away, I’m not sure if I’ll use the original iPhone we have in a drawer without activating a number to it or if I’ll start a vinyl collection?  I know what I’d like to do, but that’s not financially realistic in my/our situation.

Do you have a laptop, iPad, or iPhone?  If so, did you have a desktop computer before?  If yes, thanks from Apple, you’ve given them a TON of money because they have convinced you that an outrageously overpriced phone is needed.  The only difference between all of these gadgets is that a phone makes phone calls & texts.

Before I get any fiery backlash regarding this.  This is not aimed at any individual.  If I wanted this to be private I’d email that person!

Let’s all bow down to millennials with an attention span of 1 second.  You don’t like a 3 hour baseball game or a 3 hour CFL game?  Great enjoy a 4 hour NFL game!  Remember the 6 second videos?  They were too long for a typical millennial’s attention span, so they shortened it to a 1 second video.  Well that was dumb!

I feel like the last one at the bar, searching for something that’s already gone.  Wait, I figured it out in a stroke of absolute GENIUS!  If I stream music for as long as said streaming site is operational, when they get shut down & they likely will, since only vinyl has stood the test of time, the streaming site has to let me keep what I’ve chosen to stream.  When a magazine goes out of business, they don’t take away previous publications.  My sister-in-law & brother-in-law have MOUNTAINS of older magazine publications.

Please clue me in on this?  Am I up the creek without a paddle or am I correct in thinking this?

Despite all of this why do previous musicians get to make more cash than current musicians?  Everybody is making more money due to inflation except musicians who are making less.  WHY?

ELVIS COSTELLO & THE ATTRACTIONS

All I have is a greatest hits album of theirs.  This is the other Elvis that nobody talks about.  He’s a very good singer/songwriter who is also probably a really good front man.  He’s English I believe & is married to Canadian jazz artist Diana Krall from the west coast of Canada in British Columbia.

The more you share this, the more readers I get.  No, I’m not profiting from this in any way.  I can’t tell who’s reading this but thank you!

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

Should I be worried that I take the same black & pink pills for heart burn that “Butt Drugs” carries?  Should I take them anally?

Friday was me watching most of the Toronto Blue Jays game.  Kim thinks she’s catching a cold.  Friday she grabbed some medication & went to bed at 8:30 pm I think it was.

Saturday was more of the same.  Woke up, had breakfast.  Kim put in a load of laundry, then she & Brewster had a nap on the couch.  She woke up about an hour or more before the Blue Jay game came on, & went to bed after a Tim Hortons run for soup.

We finished Saturday watching a documentary on Netflix!

This is our lives in our late 30s.

Kim is still sick today.  Brewster was freaked last night.  He jumped off of the bed many times & whined until Kim helped up each time.  He can’t get on our bed without help, he’s vertically challenged!

I guess the power went out, so the smoke detectors were beeping, which he hates.  They beeped again when the power came back on.

I had a weird dream.  I wasn’t sure if I was supposed to go to work or university.  I was late & couldn’t find my calculus text book?  I rode my motorcycle to work & couldn’t find anybody to let me know what needed to be done?

I have never owned or had a desire to ride a motorcycle & a calculus text book is not needed for running a printing press?

Maybe order groceries & get ready for the week, as usual.  FYI I found more T-Shirts that fit!

My music over the weekend “Dead Sara”, “Foo Fighters”, “Queens of the Stone Age”, “Myles Kennedy”, “Into Eternity”, “Third Ion” & “Megadeth”

BIG WRECK

Original line up dropped out of ‘The Berkley School of Music’ to form Big Wreck & released their debut album in 1997.  3 Americans & 1 Canadian, voted to be the singer by band members.  They released their 2nd album in 2001 & broke up the following year.  During this time singer, Ian Thornley, started another group called “Thornley”.  Different label also.  2 albums were released by the group.  Big Wreck reformed with different band members on drums & bass, & original 2nd guitarist.  Big Wreck released their 3rd album in 2012.  I was still in my rehabilitation center, but there was no way I was missing their show in Regina that year.

In total ‘Big Wreck’ has 5 studio releases & a live EP with a studio cover of ‘The Cars’.

I fell asleep to “The Damned Things” the album “Ironiclast”

I exercised to “INXS’” Greatest Hits

Yes, I was in both.  I started University in September of 1998.  I took a year of Engineering, 2nd semester (January of 1999) was for me try & pass the classes I failed terribly, that didn’t happen for me though.  I really had no clue as to what I wanted to do.  I took one more semester starting in September of 1999.  I took random classes to see if something peaked my interest.  Nothing!

I worked at the Delta hotel from 1996 I think all the way through to the first 4 or 5 months of 2001.  My boss at the Delta was very accommodating with my schedule for school.  When I dropped out of university I worked full time, mostly at 5:00 or 6:00 am.  In the summer of 2001 I got a job at The Staples call center.  I had already been accepted to start SIAST in September of 2001.  I worked full time for that summer, then dropped my working hours to part time hours, I think I dropped them to 10 or 15 hours a week?  I know at one point, once I was in SIAST, they wanted part time workers to work a minimum of 20 hours a week.  I couldn’t do that so I quit to focus on school.  Corey McDonald started SIAST in December of 2001.

We bonded very fast for our mutual passion for chicken wings, beer, & guitar/music.  He really got me into heavier music.  I think once he started SIAST there were 5 guys in my class of 30 or so?  Kim was in that class & Corey’s wife Jolene was in that class as well.  Corey & Jolene started dating in late February of 2002.  Kim & I started dating about a week into April of 2002.  I got my first guitar for my birthday in January of 2001.  I was already singing with Dave, Rob, & Rydell in our band in University.

SOUNDGARDEN & PANTERA

University, SIAST, & later on in high school were my years to discover the music I liked & wanted to hear.  Even now, I’m discovering new bands.  Being in a band was always a great way to discover other bands from different places!  Like the group “Flatlined” from Ontario.  Nobody would have a clue who they were other than friends & fans of the last group I was in with my brother.  They were touring Canada & when they came to Regina we’d always play a show with them!

Unfortunately they have parted ways.  They were great though & there’s a good chance that whoever is reading this, 95% of you have never heard of them.

I had a CD holder that held 40 discs, wherever I went, it came with me.  Corey noticed I had “Superunknown” by his favourite band “Soundgarden” & “Pantera’s” Greatest Hits album.  He had 5 or 6 Pantera CDs he lent me & also lent me “Badmotorfinger” by Soundgarden.  I rushed out after listening to each CD once to buy my own copy of these albums.  I really liked them!

“Badmotorfinger” is my go to album when I listen to Soundgarden.  I listen to the 3 after this album just haven’t bothered to listen to the 2 before it.  I even own 1 of them on CD.  Here are the 3 CDs & 1 iTunes album I listen to & own by Soundgarden.

NOW IT’S TIME FOR SOME PANTERA!

Pantera’s guitar player was shot & killed in 2004, on stage in a club after Pantera had broken up.  His brother was the drummer for Pantera & the group “Hell Yeah” that he was playing with at the time.  I think that’s the name of the group?

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

I fell asleep to “Megadeth” the album “Endgame”

Not much happening here Friday evening.  TONS of snow though, highways & the ring road are shut down.  I was going to attend a funeral Saturday morning but getting my wheelchair through all of the snow would have been impossible.  We watched some Netflix & stayed indoors.

Saturday was a stay inside day too.  Just a TON of snow & I hear there are major ruts in the roads.  Sounded like a day of TV, youtube, & “Pitch Perfect 3” on blu-ray.

AWESOME & HILARIOUS movie, I REALLY like all 3 of them!  I still haven’t seen “Black Panther” though.

I continue to become more of a “Metallica” fan.  To say that Metallica is uncharted territory for me is an overstatement!  This album is my most recent addition.  If I was to get another Metallica album it might be “Ride the Lightning”?

I now have 8 studio albums on my iTunes by Metallica.  “Hardwired…..to Self-Destruct” is still my preferred album of theirs but that may change, the further I go into the dark side?

Today we are getting ready for the 4 day week ahead.  I’m thinking I’ll post just this blog & Thursday’s post as my “WEEKLY EXERCISE TOTAL”.  No need for a Wednesday post this week.

I want to act like a parent & treat certain things like a young child “NO!  No more technology until you fix the stuff that’s broken”.  “America, were taking all of your guns away.  When you learn to play nice we might give them back with tighter rules”.  If another person doesn’t have a gun, why does another civilian NEED one?  If you’re not an officer of the law or part of the military, you only need a gun for hunting if you’re into that.  A rifle that can hold one bullet at a time.

TECHNOLOGY

I wasted almost an entire day trying to make stuff work, apps & such.  Yeah, I’m slowly dipping my toe in the water of technology.  The further I go, the less I can use the way I want to.  When it works, it is FANTASTIC, when it doesn’t it is HORRIBLE & FRUSTRATING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You don’t need every new piece of technology that comes out, you’re convinced by commercials that you NEED it.  With that being said, you & I are at the mercy of technology or communication companies like Access, Shaw, Sasktel, Bell, Rogers, etc.

We already have desktop computers, laptops, tablets, iPads, iPad minis, iPods, HD TVs, super slow motion replays, etc.  We don’t need this stuff.  I was born in 1980.  Didn’t have any of these things aka I can survive without them.  Yeah, some of that stuff I have.  A desktop computer, an iPod classic that still works & 2 HDTVs, both with a PVR in HD.  I’m good with where were at with everything.  How about fixing the technology we have, before creating more of a mess?  All of this stuff is optional, you can buy it or leave it be.  Totally up to the individual.  Example; I choose not to own any type of mobile device, maybe that bothers people.  If I’m out or doing something I’m sorry I don’t have time to discuss something with you.  This is all stuff you WANT but don’t NEED!

I don’t like seat warmers in a car, if it’s on, I turn it off.  I didn’t need it before & I don’t need it now.

Why did I ever learn to read, there’s almost an emoji for EVERYTHING.  Now there are drones & robots.  Wait, I’ve heard this story before……….Trump is president & there are robots which means the human race could possibly be wiped out?  Hahahahaha!

By the way I did NOT search for any of the videos on this topic.  They were just on my opening page of www.youtube.com

Steve Jobs is severely missed!  Apple is, unfortunately, going downhill fast.  “Ah, I need the same gadget as everyone else has.”  Who told you that?

I can’t say I’m a fan of Apple products or their software, their customer service is REALLY good though.  I’ve never had a customer service person call me to give me an update just to say “…the engineers are working on the issue at the moment….”  Yes, I get my music from iTunes & I still have a working iPod classic from late 2011 or early 2012.  Some musicians I’ve talked with are getting a large amount of the money spent on iTunes.  Must be something they’ve put in their contract with the label?  How about, “JUST MAKE STUFF WORK ALL OF THE TIME PLEASE.”

Even better how about developing a cheap way to get clean drinking water, food & shelter to those who need it?

What are “Lamb of God” up to?

I REALLY enjoyed “Justice League”, but I’m not the same as everyone else.  Fair enough.  If you’re on the fence, watch it & form your own opinion!  I didn’t care for either “Guardians of the Galaxy” movies, but a lot of people did.
