Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

I fell asleep to “In Flames” the album “I, The Mask”

I exercised to “Chromeo” two albums on shuffle.

5 day exercise total; 400 pushups, 600 leg lifts, 300 crunches, 200 tricep lifts, 450  squats, 300 back flexes.

The exercise is horrible until I get my butt in gear & get it done & out of the way, then I feel good & feel I’ve accomplished something.  It’s not something physical I can really show anyone though.

EX: My mother didn’t really understand what my job was.  I told her I was a printing press operator, she still didn’t fully understand.  I took her the first sheet of paper you set up & see how far off the colour is, & how far I needed to get the metal plates to move so it all lined up.  Then I took her a final sheet of paper from the same job once it was done & explained what I had to do to get it that way.

I worked at a console to the press.  I could manipulate each of the 4 or 5 colours from there to move them or allow the right amount of colour to a certain area.  Once I was done a job, I had something tangible/physical/material to look at & think to myself “Hey, I helped make that.”

I can’t really show what I do now.  I’m pretty tired for the rest of the day, I sit on the couch & watch some TV until I feel the motivation to shower or until I just can’t stand being sweaty & smelly.  I certainly don’t want to do anymore exercise other than some walking when Kim gets home to help me.

My cousin’s in town!  Went to my parents’ place on Tuesday afternoon.  A game, Chinese food for supper (wasn’t even oily), some TV, & left with my belated birthday gift…………..wait for it……………………oatmeal chocolate chip cookies & the blu-rays I lent to my cousins.  My mom & cousin baked them on Monday for me.  My grandmother’s “recipe”.  “Add a little more of this & an extra dash of this until the dough feels right”- Grandma.  My grandparents met each other while she was working as a baker at a bakery & he was delivering from the bakery.

I had a HORRIBLE day on Thursday.  A pity party for one, I just sobbed for a while & asked myself “When will this cancer crap all end?”  I’m tired & stressed & Kim is too.  It feels like a continual pile of bull**** being dumped on us that we can’t get out of, so we never take an extended break from what we do.  I exercise & she busts her butt working while also taking an evening class that’s once a week immediately after work.

I’m glad I survived cancer, but I’m INCREDIBLY sick of the nonsense & crap that comes with it after in my & Kim’s situation.  I exercise 5 days a week & when the f*** does that help.  I’m not going to chase a dream that’s unrealistic for the rest of my life.  To say this is getting old is an understatement!  I want the pill that Robin Williams wanted, called “F*** it all”.  I’m not about to give up, but I’ll never be whatever the hell “normal” is!  If it’s coming, it’s really f***ing slow.  I was EXTREMELY frustrated!  This is nobody’s fault, but I always feel like it’s mine, ALWAYS!

I think God & Satan got together & said “Hey, let’s mess with the guy who has manic depression.  It’ll be fun!”  I have a better idea, how about you don’t?

10 bands that influenced me & made me want to sing & play guitar.  U2, Barenaked Ladies, I Mother Earth, Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Big Wreck, The Watchmen, Matthew Good Band, Tool, Led Zeppelin, & Queen.  Many more!

Yes I’m well aware that is 11 bands but I had to get Led Zeppelin in there.

I could never play fast, some of these are guitar influences, and the others are voice influences.

IN FLAMES REVIEW OF “I, THE MASK”

FANTASTIC album somewhat of a return to the earlier albums.  Still hardcore fans say it’s more of a rock album & complain about this album.  I think they want “In Flames” to just make duplicates of “The Jester Race”, not going to happen!  That album was released in 1997, I think it’s time the complaining fans jump ship if that’s what they want?

I didn’t get into “In Flames” until I saw them live in 2006?  The final tour for the traveling metal 3-4 hour extravaganza “Sounds of the Underground” tour in Saskatoon.

Yes, their last 2 releases were quite tame “Siren Charms” 2014 & “Battles” 2016 were pretty mellow as far as metal albums go, I really like “Siren Charms” though.

This new album “I, The Mask” is great from the Swedish melodic death metal group.  The first half is more like their old stuff & the second half is mellower.  Here are a few of my favourite songs from the album….

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

Music throughout the weekend.  “Dead Sara”, “Barenaked Ladies”, “Testament”, & “Matthew Good Band”

Friday ended with us watching “Hannah Gadspy” a Tasmanian comedienne.  It was more of a “Ted Talk” with humour added.  She spoke about what had gotten her to this point in her life, sexual abuse, 2 rapes, being a lesbian, coming out of the closet, etc.  Very entertaining.  She went on a rant at the end.  Kim was crying.  Lots of highs & lows throughout the show.  Really good show!  Quite a few “F – Bombs” throughout the show though.  None in this trailer though…

Saturday we went out in the afternoon Kim needed to take some photos for her photo class, dropped off Brewster & I.  She went for groceries.  I got this post started.  Kim came home with the groceries so I got moving & made my vegetable juice for the week.

Saturday evening we ordered in some Chinese food for supper & rented the movie “Boy Erased” about a son who is gay & his father is a pastor at a Christian Church.  The movie starts out with the son going to his first of 12 days at a conversion center.  I think this movie would be great if you also watch the movies “Red State” & “Spotlight”.  “Red State” could be difficult to watch with all of the language & violence.  “Boy Erased” is based on a true story.  I think every religious leader needs to wake up & see this movie.

I believe in God & consider myself a Christian. You know that part in the bible that says ‘…bring us your rich, poor, weak, & strong etc…’  Do we have to spell it out for others?  Do we need to adjust it to say “Everyone” including the LGBTQ community?  I really don’t care if you’re a part of a different religion, race, or sexuality or anything else.  Are you a good person?  If you are let’s hang out & be friends.

I was fired up watching that movie.  A lot of me commenting on the utter fear/stupidity of all of the homophobic characters.  It’s from 2018 and finishes saying there are still 700,000 conversion camps still in operation.  I don’t believe that sexuality is a choice, I believe it’s how you were born.  I didn’t choose to be straight, that’s how I was born.   Who makes gay people?  Straight people!

Woke up for lunch when Kim popped her head in the bedroom & said she was going to “Tim Horton’s”.  She’s done the laundry I believe, just eggs to hard boil & Kim wants to take some pictures in the house.  She left for “Tim Horton’s” & Brewster found that to be the perfect time to throw up twice once I made my way into the kitchen.  Poor guy, at least he knew to get off of his blanket & bed to throw up on the laminate floor.

Metal screaming is not easy.  You may not like it, but don’t say it’s easy!

I’ll believe it when I see it.  Does this mean Tool will start thinking about song ideas?

Just had to watch “Trivium” accept “Grammy Nominee Awards” of screen.  I’m assuming this is because they are a metal group, so they aren’t main stream music, ugh!

LYNYRD SKYNYRD

I will get to see them this year here in Regina!  I can’t wait!  When I was working I’d put on my iPod & just go.  One “Dream Theater” album “Systematic Chaos” was just released & “Lynyrd Skynyrd’s” double album of ‘Greatest Hits’ & I was good for 5 – 6 hours.  I’ll see them & my parents are anxious to see Randy Bachman.  I’ve been a ‘Lynyrd Skynyrd’ fan for a while, since 2006 or so.  All I have is their Greatest Hits album though.

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

Music throughout the weekend.  New “Into Eternity” song from their upcoming album.  “Pentatonix”, “Into Eternity”, “Dead Sara”, “Foo Fighters”, “Matthew Good Band”, & “Queens of the Stone Age

All of the iTunes & streaming music stuff is true.  Streaming & vinyl will be the only options to get music next year.  This will likely anger musicians depending on the contract they’ve signed with their label.  Just because I think it’s utterly terrible, doesn’t mean you have to!  I just want the option to own my music.  “Here it is, cheap music……………&……………. now you can’t have it!”-Apple.  Can’t beat them join them.  BOOOOOOOOOOOO!  I plan on buying some vinyl but I will stream most of my music.  I really hope this will be a fast fading fad.  I can’t afford a ton of vinyl, 4 or 5 bands I’ll continue to purchase on vinyl, maybe more, but it will depend on finances & other stuff.

Stayed in Friday & watched the Toronto Blue Jays surprisingly beat the N.Y. Yankees!  WOW!!!!  Come July 31st they will “drain the swamp” you may not recognize many players if you follow the Blue Jays.  I think their current Short-Stop, Aledmys Diaz has earned his spot, whenever $20,000,000 Short-Stop Troy Tulowitzki (who has not played any baseball since July 7th, 2017 due to injury) should have to earn his spot on the roster.  If I had the cash I’d give him the $40,000,000 for the next 2 years left on his contract to NOT play with the Blue Jays.  He’s SO not the player he was in 2015 when they got him.

Saturday it was HOT outside.  We went to Sherry & James’ to hang out in their backyard & throw back a few wobbly pops.  Kim & I just couldn’t find a movie we were in the mood to watch.  I still had some of the Netflix TV series “Daredevil” to watch & then we just watched some of “Friends” on Netflix.  Pretty tame Saturday night after leftovers of Spaghetti & meat sauce.

Today should be fairly relaxing.  I made my vegetable juice already, we’ve got hardboiled eggs done too.  Little bit of laundry, maybe bake some fish & watch the final game of a 3 game series of the Yankees in Toronto.

THE TEA PARTY

I’ll tell you right away, I am not an expert when it comes to this Canadian band.  I’m a casual fan though.  This is one of the numerous Canadian bands from the ‘90s that has reunited in the last few years.  I think I’ve seen them twice, probably at a touring festival in Saskatoon & once for sure with the “Matthew Good Band” at the ‘Conexus Arts Center’ way back in the ‘90s or early 2000s.  I only own 5 of their albums on CD.  I purchased them long before iTunes or streaming sites were all the rage.  Apple has classified them as ‘Metal’ in my iTunes.  I would have to disagree with that statement.  Very talented band with a large influence from eastern music.

When I saw them live, there was a lot of me thinking to myself “What’s that instrument?  Or that instrument?  Now they’re switching to that instrument?”  I didn’t know the names or sounds of the instruments, but they all came together to form a familiar song.  I should also mention that they’re a trio.  Bass, drums, & guitar by the lead singer.

1995 EDGES OF TWILIGHT

1997 TRANSMISSION

1999 TRIPTYCH

2000 TANGENTS (GREATEST HITS)

I fell asleep to “Matthew Good Band” the album “Beautiful Midnight”

I exercised to “Lamb of God” the album “Sturm Und Drang”

Sunday night I really didn’t sleep well.  I was awake from 4:00 am on.  I did half of the total numbers of every exercise.  Tried to nap but Brewster wanted to play instead.

Weekly exercise total; 1080 pushups, 900 leg lifts, 450 crunches, 450 squats, 540 tricep pushups, & 180 back flexes.

What do I think about this whole cancer situation now?  I’m SO glad it was me.  I wouldn’t want to watch anyone close to me, friend, extended family, or close family, go through any of this stuff!  I’ve made my peace with this scenario now.

Do I like where I am right now?  Well yes & no.  I’m alive which is AWESOME!!!  However, I don’t want to continue exercising as much every day for the rest of my life.  I also don’t want to be a burden to those I meet or see in person.

Nobody saw this coming!  You don’t sit around & think to yourself “Ah, this person will get life changing cancer in the future!”  Nobody thinks that about any one in their life.

The weird thing is, this is my normal right now.  I wake up to pee in the middle of the night & without thinking about it, I get into my wheelchair.  Same thing in the morning I get into my wheelchair, put on my exercise clothes, check Brewster’s food & water, eat breakfast & get right to my exercise.

It may not be normal for anyone else, but it’s normal for me.  I wish I could do something spectacular for Kim.  She’s been a solid rock for me, even before I was sick.  She has never disappointed me in any way.  She’s fantastic & just does something nice out of the blue to cheer me up if I’m stuck in a rut or having a bad day.  I do what I can for her but it never seems like enough?

TRAVELLING WILBURYS    1988

5 legendary singer/songwriters in the right place at the right time.  Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty, George Harrison, & Jeff Lynne.  4 of them happened to be at Jeff Lynne’s studio & figured they should record something.  They recorded 2 albums, nobody really knows about the 2nd album.  Fair enough, the 1st album makes you not want to think about the 1st one.  I’ve listened to the 2nd album twice I think?  Here are a few reasons why the first one is so good….

‘Headstones’ a Canadian rock/punk band covered “Tweeter & the Monkey Man”

Great but Big Sugar isn’t on the list.  Even standing behind the P. A. speakers they’re LOUD!

Today I got 2 albums ‘Tremonti’ “A Dying Machine” and ‘Dead Sara’ their 6 song EP

I fell asleep to “Matthew Good Band” the album “Beautiful Midnight”

Universal remote is on the fritz.  No music while exercising. But I’m listening to a TON of “Dead Sara” & “Devin Townsend Project”

Back to reality this week.  I don’t know about anyone else, but that felt like a very short weekend.  New vegetable smoothie/juice in the morning.  2 ½ cups of water, ½ cup orange juice, ½ container of grape tomatoes, LOADS of fresh spinach, 3 pieces of celery, 1 carrot, & 2 cooked beets.  Really tasty!  Next week I want to add a little ginger.  For breakfast I have that all blended in our Vitamix (1 pitcher a week), a hardboiled egg, a piece of fruit (usually an apple), & a rice cake.  My lunch is 1 week of fish & lemon juice or a week of deli meat turkey wraps with ½ a slice of cheese & a dab of hot sauce.  During the afternoon I have hummus with rice thins, fruit, or some yogurt.  Supper is usually something with quinoa & chicken.

This isn’t a diet!  I like the food I eat, I can maintain this food regiment.  We don’t keep bread, chocolate, chips, or any other type of junk food in the house.  Out of sight out of mind.

Yes I drink alcohol only on the weekend or some time off at home, the lake or visiting relatives out of province.  During the week I drink close to a gallon of water.  My “medication” gives me dry mouth, then I get up to pee once or twice a night.

If it’s a special occasion I’ll have some sugar, whatever is in the baking or ice cream, not much though.  Everything in moderation.

My doctor at the cancer clinic has me on over the counter stuff.  Baby Aspirin, vitamin E, & vitamin C.  I know have to eat breakfast before I exercise.  I take the vitamins 3 times a day, & the Aspirin in the morning with my morning pills.  Yes, I’m 38 years old & have an evening & morning pill case for the week.  YAY…..beats the alternative though!

I’ve been eating this way for roughly 4 years & exercising 5 days a week.  I like this & I feel better than ever.

GRETA VAN FLEET

4 guys out of Detroit.  Here are songs from their album, which is actually 2 EPs they put together & released on iTunes.  They plan to have an album out by the end of the summer.  Yes, the band that will always be instantly compared to Led Zeppelin.

I don’t know why so many people hate them for sounding like a carbon copy of Led Zeppelin.  When you hear the guys voice, BOOM Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin.  You hear the guitar BOOM Jimmy Page.  The drummer & bass player aren’t John Bonham & John Paul Jones.  If the singer’s voice sounds like Robert Plant, wouldn’t you try to create music like Led Zeppelin?

If your singer sounds like another famous singer, go with it & let the kids have fun & make some cash.  If a band is new to the music scene wouldn’t you be inspired or influenced by another, wouldn’t you go with it?  The Beatles, Elvis, The Rolling Stones, Queen, Led Zeppelin, Michael Jackson, U2, etc.  Proven artists that can make a living doing what they like.

I figure there are 2 ways to take this as a Led Zeppelin fan “WHOA, they’re totally ripping off Led Zeppelin!” Or, “Hey, this sounds like Led Zeppelin is creating new music, AWESOME!”

Personally, I have nothing against them & I like their music.  I’ll ride this train as far as it will go.

Songs from their album “From the Fires”

This guy’s complaining about their clothing?  Lay off it, it doesn’t affect the music, might as well look for more imperfections to concern yourself with.

Now I want to be a guitar player for ‘Queens of the Stone Age’ then I’ll get a fancy house.

http://loudwire.com/queens-of-the-stone-age-troy-van-leeuwen-purchases-1-85-million-camarillo-estate/

My ranking of their albums worst to first is….

“Era Vulgaris”, “Queens of the Stone Age”, “Rated R”, “Lullabies to Paralyze”, “…Like Clockwork”, “Songs for the Deaf”, & “Villains”

After “Era Vulgaris” it gets quite tricky since the rest are all pretty great.

Disturbed is a band I grew out of & can’t say I miss them aka I’m not in my early 20s anymore.  I own “The Sickness” & “Believe” on CD, then I stopped.

http://loudwire.com/disturbed-albums-ranked/

Hahahaha!  Metallica covered by Tremonti playing Hello Kitty guitars!

Some I like, others I won’t touch.  I don’t consider myself a full blown metal head though.

‘Queen’, ‘Bowie’, ‘Prince’, ‘Bob Marley’ (in small doses), ‘Beastie Boys’, ‘Pink Floyd’, some ‘Depeche Mode’, & yes ‘Classical Music’

Saw ‘Deadpool 2’ last night.  Much like the first one, there’s a lot of….

LANGUAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It’s a good one, much like the first one that way.  I watched the first “Deadpool” over 3 days last week.  I’ll buy this when it’s out on blu-ray!  I laughed too much & I know I missed a few jokes due to laughing at the previous one, also like the first one, which I’ve easily watched 20-25 times now.

Facebook is bringing a streaming music.  Because you don’t have enough options for that yet.  I think they’re a little late to the party?

https://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/facebook-is-finally-putting-music-back-into-social-networking-w521125

The N.Y. Yankees played in Toronto this evening.  Toronto lost again.  I checked the score when I got home.  It’s not pretty, after a 7-2 loss they’re now 26W-34L.

Come the trade deadline on July 31st, they’ll be shopping for prospects while dumping older players who have contracts that expire at the end of the year!  Right now for the 2nd season in a row, they have the oldest average age of players in all of the MLB!

I fell asleep to “Burn the Priest” the album “Legion XX”

Got up to pee in the middle of the night & put on “Stone Temple Pilots (2018)

No exercise today because my appointment this morning.

I’ve been listening to the “Beautiful Midnight” album by Matthew Good Band quite a bit.  Kind of forgot how much I like that album!

BEFORE MY APPOINTMENT

Today/this morning was my appointment to see my doctor at the cancer clinic (the doctor that calls me fat each time I see here).  No, I’m right around 220, that’s 45 pounds less than when I went into the hospital & then ballooned to, I’m guessing 280?  If she body shames me in person, I’ll tell her all of this & that my family doctor has me on a thyroid pill at the moment.  I’d like to be 210-215 but it’s coming off slowly, which I think is a good sign. I eat healthier & I of course exercise 5 days a week.

If she tells me to lose more weight, so be it.  Her problem, not mine.  I don’t look in the mirror often, however I did while brushing my teeth in Calgary.  Then I realized my face & neck were very thin.  A shirt that used to be a touch on the small side was VERY baggy.

If she tells me I’m fat I’ll respond politely with “That’s fine & all, but do I have cancer?”

AFTER MY APPOINTMENT

I knew my scan was good & I’m cancer free, from my appointment with my family doctor.  We went to the cancer clinic & she brought in my other oncologist who chose the chemo therapy I’d be on.  Everything is as it should.  One more appointment with my family doctor regarding my thyroid pill.

At my appointment this morning they were very happy to see me doing so well.  They called me something like a success story, I think I was just incredibly lucky.  December 31st 2018 will make 10 years cancer free for me.

I almost got out of there without a comment on my weight….almost.  We were on our way down the hall & she yells out “LOSE SOME WEIGHT!”  I replied “I HAVE!”  So close, but so far.

THE PHILOSOPHER KINGS

This is a total 180 from my typical rock & metal groups but I really like this group too.  More of an R & B sound.  I believe they’re out of Ontario, Canada, I’m not positive about that.  I own their first 2 albums on CD.  We were going to get tickets to see them in town at The Exchange.  They cancelled the show & opted to go into the studio & record their 4th album.  Seems odd to me to book a tour, then bail to record an album, but what do I know?  Here’s a sampling of their first 2 albums.

1994    “THE PHILOSOPHER KINGS”

1997      “FAMOUS, RICH, & BEAUTIFUL”

….and that’s a wrap on season 2 of “13 Reasons why” as of Monday evening.

Look at that Big Wreck just released a beer to make up for the pennies everyone is spending on albums to stream.

Tool update, if you want to beLIEve it?

New video from ‘Stone Temple Pilots’

Preorder on iTunes for the 4th Halestorm album “Vicious” today!  Full release on July 25th!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Weekly exercise total; 1,200 pushups, 1,000 leg lifts, 500 crunches, 460 squats,  375 tricep pushups, & 200 back flexes.  Every day when I exercise I strive for it to be “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger”

Yeah, I was messing with the numbers again.

I put a lot of pressure on myself all of the time.  I wasn’t like that before cancer really.  When I was working I figured I’d better do the best I can since I’m being paid.  Same with being in a band.  People are paying to see our group play, they deserve to get the best show possible for however much they paid.  Even if it was a benefit show/fundraiser, they paid so let’s do this really well.

I never thought that about most other things, other than playing baseball.  That I actually practiced, with the team & on my own time.  “Dad would you please come hit some ground balls at me?”  “Could we go to the batting cages?”  “Can you toss some balls at my left hip, so I can practice hitting them into the back stop?”  I’d take off on my bike to throw a tennis ball in the area of where the ground would meet a wall & field it whether it was a ground ball or a fly ball.

High school was more of a “Meh, A-, good enough”.  I never really figured out how to study.  I just managed to go through school doing good enough, except university.  I’d study & read & still got poor results.

In SIAST/technical school, I just told myself to do things better.  I read the books & practiced the stuff I was about to be tested on.  I found it easier to do hands on stuff & figure out how to make it work.  I needed to do things hands on.  Reading a book is great, but I needed to experience what I was reading about.

MUSIANS & OTHER ARTISTS DO THEIR CRAFT REGARDING WHAT THEY KNOW OR HAVE EXPERIENCED!  IF THIS VIDEO OFFENDS YOU GREAT, IT SHOULD WATCH IT & FIGURE OUT WHAT YOU CAN DO TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING!

MATTHEW GOOD BAND

Another Canadian band.  Based in B.C.  I’ve got 6 albums & a single.  You really only need the final 3 albums that were BIG hits in Canada.  I have no clue how Canadian bands faired outside of Canada?  3 albums from 1997-2001 according to iTunes.  I thought the first album was released earlier, but we’ll go with 1997.  A group I wish would reunite, but I’m sure they won’t.  I don’t want to stir the pot, but I heard whispers that there was some animosity among a few members of the group?  Matthew Good went on to release a few solo albums after the group broke up.  I wasn’t big on them but I got the first 2 solo albums.  Here are 2 tracks from the 3 albums with the band & a song from each solo album I own………………..

Doing these band reviews has me feeling nostalgic, in a good way!  “I’ve got that on CD & imported it to iTunes!!!  I should listen to it more often!”

So, MUSE is releasing a movie in theaters for one day, but not in Saskatchewan?  I won’t get to see that unless it’s released on DVD or Blu-Ray & it would be impossible to see Pink in B.C. tomorrow.

The more you share this, the more readers I get.  No, I’m not profiting from this in any way.  I can’t tell who’s reading this but thank you!
