Exercise total for 4 days.

500 Curls w/ 20 pound dumb bells

300 Shoulder raises/Chest presses w/ 10 pound dumb bells

900 Crunches

900 Leg lifts

300 Squats

450 Back flexes

1:00 hour of yoga over 2 days

To be clear about this, I don’t have a home studio.  I have no camera, cell phone, or audio recording device.  If I come up with a good sounding guitar line, I play it many times to remember it.  “The Beatles” only recorded stuff if they could remember it the next day, so I kind of operate the same way…I just don’t sound like The Beatles.  Any photos or videos on here or Facebook are courtesy of Kim & her cell phone.

I was missing a sleeping pill last night.  I take 2 different pills, one to make me fall asleep faster than my typical 3 or 4 hours of tossing & turning in bed.  The other keeps me asleep.  We missed getting a refill yesterday on the pill that keeps me asleep.  I woke up close to 3:00 am & finally decided to give up on trying to fall asleep at 5:00 am & got up to do my exercises.

My guitar came in Tuesday afternoon.  First impressions, DAMN it’s pretty!  I’ve honestly never played a guitar right out of the box that needs no adjustment.  I tuned it and it was ready to go.  Even just the tuning buttons were INCREDIBLY smooth.  I had HIGH expectations for it, & the S2 PRS greatly exceeded them!

Luckily I missed recording the baseball game Tuesday evening.  I caught the last 2 innings since I was busy playing my new guitar.  After my exercises are done & I’ve showered, I play it all of the time.

I was just about to play guitar after my shower on Tuesday & figured I should check my email.  I had an email confirming my guitar was in & ready for me to pick up.  My brother picked me up & we went to the store.  I tuned it & I’ve been playing it as much as possible since.  Playing it (unplugged) even while watching Blue Jays baseball in the evening.  I hate having to stop playing it!  I wish you could see it in person, the photo just doesn’t compare.

I’ve played 3 guitars in my life that made me think “Why aren’t all guitars made this way?”  My friend’s hollow body Gretsch guitar in the summer, my Epiphone 7 string that Kim got me for my 40th birthday at the end of January, & my new PRS S2.  The hype is real!!!!!

…and now I’d like to introduce you to “Sunny”!  PRS S2 Semi-hollow Custom.

Having this PRS S2 Custom 22 only solidifies my desire for the S2 McCarty 594.  Last guitar purchase, followed by that amplifier & footswitch.

https://www.long-mcquade.com/154076/Guitars/Guitar-Amps/Boss/Katana-50-MkII-Combo-Amplifier.htm

https://www.long-mcquade.com/12567/Guitars/Guitar_Effects/Boss/FS-6_-_Dual_Footswitch.htm

If you care to watch.  These are the different bridges they use on guitars at PRS, as shown by Paul Reed Smith.  Sunny has a tremolo bridge, and the one I plan to order has a 2 piece stop tail bridge.

If we find a house next year, the amplifier & footswitch are put on hold.  Well come June 1st of 2021 EVERYTHING stops for the hope of finding a house!  The amplifier & footswitch will have to wait.

If I ever got my hands on a Core Tremonti PRS with a HUGE (90% off) discount, that would be hard to pass up.  This S2 PRS is beautiful.  I’m over the moon with everything on this guitar!  Here’s that SUPER nice Mark Tremonti Core PRS, not in the typical black.

A Core PRS goes for $3,800 US, which is $6,574 + tax in Canada.  I used to say $5000 was my limit for a guitar, not anymore.  It’s far less than that or even the USA price for Core model, I just paid my limit for a guitar.  The final order is less expensive than what I have, it’s still very close to my limit.

“Sunny” is a lower priced S2 PRS guitar.  The quality is unmatched to any guitar I’ve ever played.  The downside & the upside of it is that we paid a lot for it & it REALLY impresses me.  So it’s VERY nice but it does have a large price tag.  One more S2 and I’m literally spent!

I do watch some TV other than baseball.  The Ellen Degeneres Show, A Late Show with Stephen Colbert, & about 3 other scripted shows that aren’t on TV right now.  Prodigal Son, The Resident, & Mom.  No matter what show I’m watching, there’s a guitar in my hands!

GO DR. FAUCI GO!

Why is Donald Trump EVERYWHERE?  If Biden wins the election, things could get messy when he moves into the White House.

This week I’ve been playing stuff I know the basic chord progression of while making it more distinct playing lead stuff instead on the new guitar “Sunny”.

I’ve been listening to a 20th anniversary reissue of the first self-titled Into Eternity album that I got on CD.  “Into Eternity” describe themselves as extreme progressive metal.  I think of them as death metal meets the harmonies of “Queen”, that’s HIGH-PRAISE in my books.  Good luck finding a CD other than through the Regina based band that until recently only had the files for the album.  Into Eternity are the Regina heroes that are still underground despite having toured or played with big name acts such as “Motorhead”, “Megadeth”, “Lamb of God”, “Opeth” & I believe “Dream Theater”.  I thik it was last year or 2018 they released their 6th studio album.  The last 5 albums should be available everywhere.  I bought 3 of them at HMV when it was open & managed to get the 6th album on amazon where you can find all of their albums now!

Welcome back to the program!  You’re here so if you like what you see, might as well subscribe?  Either on Facebook or with your email in the bottom right corner, it’s really that easy & it’s free!  I know you want to tell your friends, go ahead!

I played guitar for almost exactly 7 years before I had cancer.  I didn’t go right back to the songs I knew before or most of the songs I played/sang live.  I can’t sing like I used to be able to.  I can’t sing at all really.  Before when I was playing & singing I played rhythm/chords.  Now after cancer I chose mostly songs with a dominant lead guitar part.  That’s what I’m learning now.  I’m learning more lead guitar stuff that I’ve never played before.

I chose either songs I’ve never bothered to try & a few songs that I learned in my 6th & 7th year of playing.  I wanted to challenge myself instead of playing the same old 4 chords & the main riff to the song.  I figured what I play should be distinct to a particular song.  Gets me out of my comfort zone.

“YES” this is the amplifier for me!  This is a gain setting at 0.5 Watts.  Everything I’m looking for & more!

I don’t think I’m that excited about an amplifier, but it’s all I hoped it would be, with all of my research.  I’ll still have to wait until September to get it.  Gotta buy/order my last guitar by early February since I know it will take 3-15 months to get here.  Of course if we find a house the amplifier will have to wait.

If everything goes as planned, this will be ordered in February & hopefully we find a house shortly after?!

Same company in Stevensville, Maryland, USA as the guitar that should be here soon.

I think PRS just hit that peak where they’re now in the top 3 as far as guitar brands go.  I think between the USA factory & the one I Indonesia, they have 300 employees?  There’s no assembly line either.

I think the biggest wild card for us right now is Brewster’s health.  He seems to be fine right now.  He’ll cough like a smoker 2 or 3 times a day & he sleeps a LOT, but he still seems pretty happy & runs the show here.  He can’t hear me when I’m within inches behind him trying to get him to move so I don’t roll my wheels over him.  He can hear the microwave from inside our bedroom & around the corner though!  “Hark, my human is eating, I’ll have to investigate!”  I can’t eat anything without him sitting right beside me.

Whenever we see the vet for a checkup I always ask if he’s in pain, I don’t want to have the little guy suffer at all.  He’ll be 15 on January 31st, the day after my birthday.

As long as Brewster is OK, a house is at the top of our list.  Other than the seemingly impossibility of selling a condo in Regina, our problem is finding anything remotely wheelchair accessible within our price range.  I looked again at the website for houses in our price range & nada, zippo, zero, nothing.  Of course now that were being picky there’s nothing out there?

As far as my cancer goes, I’m good.  Got some refills on the weekend, I was out of a sleeping pill so I needed more of those.  I see my psychiatrist in October for a regular visit.  I also have another MRI in November, only about 30 minutes long.  There is a cyst in my back, it’s been there from the beginning.  New doctor taking over my case, so she just wanted to look at it closer.  Nothing to worry about though.

When I saw her last time, she asked how my fine motor skills were, such as writing & eating.  I told her all of that was OK and that I play guitar.  She was glad to hear my hands were in good shape & that the guitar playing was a good way to exercise those small muscles.  Makes me wonder if I can claim my guitar spending on my taxes as physiotherapy equipment?  HAHAHAHAHA!  No new guitar so far.  They said by the end of September at the earliest.  I’m getting anxious!

If I ever had $5500ish burning a hole in my pocket, this finish on a Core Tremonti PRS is pretty!  I’d get a Core McCarty 594 instead of the S2 I plan to order in February.  Nice to dream.

Kim had a headache & her stomach was sore on Sunday.  I didn’t get to see the Jays game until about 10:00 pm.  I ended up fast forwarding & rewinding bits of it just to see the highlights.  I slept in until 9:00 am on Monday and got my exercises done ASAP.  Regular season baseball ends on Sunday.

I did it 4 times this week.  I call it click bait.  I opened 4 Donald Trump videos on www.youtube.com.  I didn’t bother to watch them all the way through.  He honestly holds zero shock value for me & thank goodness he’s not Canadian!

October 16th, a new album is out that day from The Struts.  Here’s one of the 2 singles released so far.

This Foo Fighters song I used to play in private & it’s coming along nicely.  Verse portion is not bad, haven’t added the chorus part yet.

These 2 are just a little sloppy still.

Ended up playing a TON of Big Wreck over the weekend.

Brewster seems to be doing better these days.  He’ll be 15 on January 31st.  He’s taking his pills all of the time now.  Kim bought “Pill Pockets” for him.  He’s a BIG fan of Kim’s beef barley soup over his dry food.  He loves bite size chuncks of watermelon that he eats with me at lunch.  He eats about ¼ of my fish at lunch.  He’s been fairly active this week too.

I’m not sure why but I’ve felt a bit slugish all week.  I did my exercises other than on Monday, and I made them count, no weak effort here.  I don’t know if it’s because I had an alcoholic beverage on the weekend or if my body just feels old?  I got out of bed the other day & almost took cover.  Everything was popping & cracking, I thought someone had a machine gun.  This morning I was up at 7:15 am, had my 5 minute breakfast of 2 hard boiled eggs & a glass of vegetable juice.  Then I got after my exercises.  I did my squats first & wanted to “cry” my legs just hurt, had to take an extended breather.

Peeked out the window Wednesday morning and the smoke from the wildfires seems to have cleared.  I hope all is well on the west coast.

Kim went to the condo meeting Tuesday evening.  After a vote of 28-7 on the pet agenda, visiting pets are once again allowed in the building.  Living in a condo feels like living under multiple dictators within a democracy outside.  Kim needed to vent a bit after the meeting.  I guess someone at the meeting had an issue with EVERYTHING…and that’s why the meeting was an hour long!

It’s not even spring of 2021 & I’m already stressing out about finding a house next year!  The stars have to align perfectly for us.  I guess the toughest part will be selling our condo.  Far too many new, vacant condos available at ½ the price.  If we do find a buyer for this place & a house within a month, I’m almost positive we’ll lose money.  I shouldn’t stress until we actually put our place on the market in the spring.

Any guitars you see on here are never going to be purchased.  It’s just me widow shopping.  I’m VERY excited with my choices & they’ve been heavily researched. I’m holding out for a call or email next week or the week after telling me the guitar I ordered in January is here!  Cross your “fingers and toes” for me!  If it’s not here next week or by the end of September, I guess I’ll just keep waiting.  It’s been an odd year to say the least!  It should be here “Any day now”.  A house is a must for us!  No big purchases by either of us until we find a house or end up renovating our suite.

S2 Custom 22 Semi-Hollow Body Guitar w/Gig Bag - McCarty Sunburst

So now that Donald Trump has been caught on tape in February admitting he’s downplaying Covid-19 to avoid a panic, everybodies a “stable genius” and refuse to wear masks now?  People have very little respect for others & it’s getting worse all of the time.

https://calgary.ctvnews.ca/you-are-a-sheep-video-shows-anti-masker-mocking-calgary-fabricland-staff-customers-1.5106572?fbclid=IwAR2u5poGnjlA6x30igw98ul1aKkD5L1O2o4sFvpIXgZgd9TJ1qPX9JhPey4

If wearing a mask is too difficult for some people, I have a solution!  You don’t have to put on any other clothes, just a mask over your mouth and nose.  You’ll actually be wearing less clothing & if you want more clothing it must be in mask form, any size, anywhere & we’ll get you a set of markers so you can make them any colour you want.  You’ll look just as ridiculous as you did not wearing a mask in the first place!  You’re welcome!  J

You can wear a mask or suffer the wrath of Red Forman.

There are 3 WILDLY EXPENSIVE “never going to happen” guitars I’d like to own.

https://www.prsguitars.com/index.php/electrics/model/mark_tremonti_signature_2020  Super expensive Core model PRS.  Mark Tremonti signature.

https://www.prsguitars.com/index.php/electrics/model/pauls_guitar_2020

Another super expensive Core model PRS.  Paul Reed Smith’s signature.

https://www.long-mcquade.com/51280/Guitars/Electric/Gibson/Dave_Grohl_ES-335_Ltd_Edition_-_Pelham_Blue.htm

An even more expensive Dave Grohl 335 Gibson.  I think these retail at $12,000 US?  If you can find one.  I’m pretty sure I’m done buying guitars.

YAY, new season on Disney+ starting October 30th.  One of the few streaming shows I watch “The Mandalorian”

New video from Alter Bridge this week.  Seeing them live is near the top of my bucket list.  This is the band that Mark Tremonti plays for.  For me, Mark Tremonti & singer/guitarist, Myles Kennedy, are top notch!  I easily have 4 favourite bands now.  Foo Fighters, Big Wreck, Tool, & Alter Bridge.  Foo Fighters since 1997 & Big Wreck when I was of legal bar age & saw the live in 1999!  Alter Bridge had me hooked since I heard their first single in 2004.  Tool was persistent & eventually got me hooked on their 1999 release “Lateralus”.

I googled a bunch of songs to learn on the 7 string & they’re all metal songs, this could take a while 3 down with a LOT to go.

Double Header baseball today.  I’ll be parked on the couch with my acoustic guitar practicing this as I did last night.

I’ll likely be playing/practicing an assortment of other forbiden songs a guitarist shouldn’t play.  Stuff I know but haven’t bothered to work on.

Short week made for an easier week of exercise!  I’m just glad the week is over for me.  I’d do more exercises if I had the energy.  We were going walking for a bit.  I should probably keep that up & do some in our parkade with my walker on the weekends.  My motivation for everything is “Somebody’s doing better than me”

I’ve decided that since I’m Canadian, there’s little need to watch American news.  Whatever Donald Trump says or does has zero shock value for me and even if I try to avoid it, it’s all over the Canadian National news channel & my local news.  Even when I watch www.youtube.com I avoid it.  He wants attention & ratings, well I don’t care to see or listen to him & he’s not a Canadian politician.

There are a few people that think I’ll want another guitar after I order my last one in February hopefully.  2 reasons I won’t though.  6 electric guitars & 1 acoustic is enough for a person in my situation, it’s a hobby.  Second reason, guitars cost money, we don’t have any to spend on new guitars.  I guess this would be a 3rd reason.  Quality over quantity.  Maybe I won’t own an arsenal of guitars, but they’ll be well made instruments!  I did my research & I know what to expect.  If everything goes right I’ll order my last guitar in February & buy the amplifier at that time while I save a little more for the guitar that will come a year later or I’ll see what the wait time is then.

Even my current guitars were gifts based on my knowledge at the time, other than my Fender Thinline Telecaster which was a gift out of the blue.  I only purchased my acoustic guitar.  Wasn’t much research on that guitar?  I walked into a music store & asked the people I knew there what acoustic I could get for $500 when I was 21.  They showed me a few, I played them & left with a guitar about 45 minutes later.

Let’s pretend that moneys not factoring into this scenario.  I’d get 7 different signature guitars.  Dave Grohl 335 Gibson (Foo Fighters).  Mark Tremonti & “Paul’s Guitar” (Alter Bridge & PRS).  Sell my Takamine acoustic for either a nice Taylor or Martin acoustic.  All of them are WAY too much to spend on 1 guitar!  Nice to dream, then there’s reality.

None of them will ever “…be mine”

In reality, a hard maybe on a more affordable Squier, Washburn, or knock off Les Paul still at least a decade or more down the road.  I’d likely have to sell an electric guitar & that’s not happening!  I’m REALLY excited about what I’m getting & what I have!  I can’t wait for my ordered guitar to get here!  Nothing other than what I’m getting has been researched other than the 2 PRS Core guitars, that are just WAY to expensive at $5300 or more Canadian.

Then order this guitar & buy the amplifier next year.

I see people on www.youtube.com with 20-90 guitars, 40 amplifiers, & 100s of effect pedals, who typically have a profession of either teaching, repairing, making, or selling guitars for a living.  If money wasn’t a factor, I’d stop at 1 amplifier, 8ish pedals & 12 guitars because that’s a LOT of guitars to maintain or even just change strings on.  Money is a factor and I’m VERY happy with what I’m getting & I’m done spending money on guitars.  I’m done guitar shopping/researching for a LONG time.

We both REALLY hope to find a house next year more than anything!  Until we’re in our 60s or 70s, we’ll be looking for a house.  If there’s nothing out there by then, we might as well stay in a condo.

EVERYBODY is broke & at home right now.  Welcome to the rest of my life.  Your situation is temporary, mine’s not.  Don’t feel sorry for me, I’m adapting or have adapted.

Other than the new John Petrucci solo album, I’ve been listening to In Flames Clayman album since it’s the 20th anniversary of the album.  The last Big Wreck album is getting it’s fair share of listening as well.

Welcome back to the program!  You’re here so if you like what you see, might as well subscribe?  Either on Facebook or with your email in the bottom right corner, it’s really that easy & it’s free!  I know you want to tell your friends, go ahead!

Kim called the police regarding her stolen bike on Thursday last week.  As you may know, the guy was arrested.  Her phone call was sent to a department (of which I don’t know) there was an answering service & she left a message.  We have yet to hear back, despite my asking her to call again on Monday.

I follow PRS Guitars on Facebook & they’ve been pushing out quite a bit of Private Stock guitars.  That completely makes sense to me.  A person getting a private stock guitar will typically wait 18 months for the guitar from the point they pick out EVERYTHING being used to make it & it costs whatever amount you make it!  I saw a random guy in the USA on good ol’ www.youtube.com, his wife bought him a private stock PRS as a wedding gift, & paid $15,000 for it!  The guitar I ordered is not even close to being that expensive!

I was like a 4 year old on Christmas Eve, Thursday night, I didn’t sleep that well.  Long story, PRS were about to send 2 identical guitars to Australia.  The guy at the music store called them Monday morning & told them my story about the delay before Covid hit.  I guess the sales rep he spoke with is holding back one of the guitars going to Australia for me.  It’s not finished being made yet, but it’s coming!  I’m just happy about their specifications for the wood choice & totally understand the delay, it’s just an odd year.  They were looking for a quality piece of curly maple without any blemishes for the ¼” top of the body.  Their quality control is why I went with PRS.  This is another example of quality over quantity.

S2 Custom 22 Semi-Hollow Body Guitar w/Gig Bag - McCarty Sunburst

They are 10-12 months backordered due to Covid & were looking/waiting for a nice piece of maple for the top of my guitar because the sunburst colour I ordered is a little tricky.  Despite this delay, I’ve been saving up & still plan to order this PRS S2 model in April or May….

This is a VERY odd scale length, & it’ll sound like a 1958 Gibson Les Paul while having a different (better I.M.O.) look & $1000 cheaper.  The Gibson brand name has also lost some of its credibility in the guitar playing community over the last decade or more.  This guitar is also wired better than a Les Paul, in that I can switch either or both pickups from Humbucker (double coil) 1958 pickups to pre-1950 single coil pickups.  Gibson doesn’t make coil splitting pickups.

Kim’s fine with me saving for this amplifier & footswitch for later on next year.  It’s not completely digital or analog.  It’s an affordable practice amplifier hybrid.  If we need cash it will come out of the savings for this…

https://www.long-mcquade.com/154076/Guitars/Guitar-Amps/Boss/Katana-50-MkII-Combo-Amplifier.htm

https://www.long-mcquade.com/12567/Guitars/Guitar_Effects/Boss/FS-6_-_Dual_Footswitch.htm

Kim’s on the fence about me spending money on this, yet I’ve cut out EVERYTHING other than food & water for the guitar, amplifier, & footswitch.

With those purchases, I’ll be as happy as a pig in mud for at least a decade, if not much, much longer.  I looked at some other stuff, but nothing really appealed to me.  Maybe something small will someday, but those will be my last big hobby purchases.  Kim says I keep changing my mind, I think I’m very consistent on these 2 purchases.  I’ve researched the crap out of them & I know exactly what to expect from both.  Every time I look at one of them, I find a little bonus piece about them.

On the upside our ‘niece’ & ‘nephew’ were with us Saturday afternoon.  We made bubbles, picked flowers, coloured, did assorted arts & crafts had pizza, ice cream, they rode around in my wheelchair, & checked out a little “Paw Patrol”.  She’ll be 7 in October & he turned 2 in May.  He’s busy & wants to check out everything.  I followed him around & answered questions for him.  Our ‘nephew’ got me twice on Monday despite not being here.  He was checking out my guitars.  He turned my amplifier all the way up, I didn’t notice it until I played one note & just about peed.  Later on I grabbed a different guitar, tuned it with my silent tuner on, turned off the tuner to play it, & no sound came out of the speaker.  I thought my guitar had some electrical issue?  Nope that was a guitar he played with & turned the volume on the guitar to 0.

Sunday we went to or friends’ place for a BBQ & visit in the backyard.  Nice relaxing day & Brewster loves being outside on a lawn & leash free.  He was falling asleep on my lap on the way home at 7:15 pm.  He’s getting old!  Nowadays I fill my pill capsules for the week, then move onto his.  Always making sure I don’t mix them up!

I did play my buddy’s new Gretsch hollow body guitar on Sunday.  Oh that is a sweet guitar!  I personally don’t want to spend money on a full size hollow body guitar, but it was a really nice guitar!

There are only two other guitars I’d like, but are far beyond what I would pay for them!  A Mark Tremonti signature PRS in the brown colour that he plays on occasion.  https://www.prsguitars.com/index.php/electrics/model/mark_tremonti_signature_2020 & a Dave Grohl signature Gibson 335 (hollow body, DG-335)   https://reverb.com/p/gibson-dave-grohl-signature-dg-335.  Those are my “never gonna happen” guitars.

Watch this video from the 8:20 minute mark & it shows how great these people are & what they did with their earnings from the 4 day online guitar clinic!

Kim’s hoping we find a house next year.  As long as this virus deal is over, I’m all for putting our condo on the market again.  Our mortgage will be just under $200,000 by then which will make a difference, but I don’t think it will make a big enough difference.  The biggest issue is that it has to be wheelchair accessible.

We saw one last year but the housing market in Regina is weird/difficult if you’re trying to sell a condo such as we are.  Far too many cheaply built, new, vacant condos out there for ½ the price of what we paid for this place.  We’ll be looking for something under $410,000 that is move in ready.  My magic 8 ball tells me the outcome is not good.  I think us moving is just as unlikely as me getting either of those signature guitars, never going to happen.

As for practicing guitar I’m good & just working on learning songs I like & that are fun to play.  Even have a handful of stuff for my brother’s band to use & expand on.  Other than that these will be my focus until I learn the next batch of songs.

And I try to always go through scales, finger/picking exercises, & other songs I’ve learned.  The more I play a song, the better it sounds!  Like this song is already good enough, but the more I play it the more automatic it becomes.

BREWSTER’S HEART MEDICATION HAS STARTED

I had to listen to some “Foo Fighters”, “Alter Bridge”, & “Big Wreck” after writing all of this.

I fell asleep to “Foo Fighters” the album “Concrete & Gold”, followed by “Big Wreck” the album “The Pleasure & the Greed”

I exercised to “Alter Bridge” the album “One Day Remains”

I’m back to it this week.  I guess my body either needed a break or took longer to recover than I had anticipated?

Little bit past the age of 14 human years & as of this past Friday night Brewster’s on heart medication every 12 hours & a humidifier from Amazon.ca has been ordered.  We needed a humidifier for the guitars but this sped up the process.

A little after 9:00 pm on Friday we were watching TV.  Kim stopped everything to listen to Brewster, who was on the floor in his bed by her.  His breathing was weird, he sounded very congested.  Kim took him to the vet ASAP.  He had X-Rays done, temperature, & blood work.  His heart is enlarged, it’s pushing on his trachea causing him to cough, & his congestion was due to fluid in his lungs.  He has 30 days of medication for the fluid in his lungs, then the rest of his life on heart medication.  He goes back in 3 weeks for a checkup.

They didn’t get home until close to midnight.  I stayed up by the phone hoping all was OK.  All is well, he’s getting older though.

I’ve decided against upgrading my guitar amplifier.  20 watts through an 8” speaker is already louder than I’ll need now that I play at home.  Being in a condo at the moment prevents me from turning the volume up past 2 ½ out of 10.  I turned it up to 3/10 one day to see what one of the guitars could do.  Even that was too loud for me!  Amplifiers are much more efficient than they were when I was playing live.

I don’t like having a guitar I don’t play.  I have one I don’t play for a few reasons, I’d sell it to get a 35th anniversary PRS SE McCarty https://www.prsguitars.com/index.php/electrics/model/35th_anniversary_se_custom_24_2020 which is the cheapest PRS guitar built overseas but still $1300 Canadian + tax, if I lived in the USA it would be around $500-$800.  I prefer the colour on this but it’s not happening for many years if it ever does.  I assume these won’t have another appearance either.

I RARELY, if EVER, play the semi-hollow Fender Telecaster.  Very much made for blues or country music which I really don’t listen to or play.  It used to be all about the Gibson or Fender brands.  PRS or Paul Reed Smith has become well known for the company’s attention to detail & excellent craftsmanship after 35 years.  Gibson & Fender have both gone bankrupt in the last decade but have comeback without really changing anything.

I’ll be getting my 2nd guitar of the year in August (hopefully), & I’m still learning/playing the 7 string quite a bit.  The 35th Anniversary SE has totally different electronics from anything I own though.  Different pickups and 16 different electronic combinations/sounds.  I’m not going to have $1200 just sitting around to spend on a guitar so it’s likely a ‘NEVER GOING TO AFFORD IT’ situation.  I’ve looked at other guitars that just don’t suit my desires.  Guitars I’m not into or guitars I’d not play since they’re similar to what I have or will have by the end of August, which now seems “So far away”.  I wouldn’t just buy a guitar for the sake of buying a guitar!

A trip & hopefully a house have to happen first anyways.  If we can’t find a house this year, I give up on the house idea for a few years (not buy a guitar), Kim’s cool with taking a break from it too for a bit.

The Fender Telecaster is a treasured piece of art here & I keep it for sentimental value.  It was given to me by one of my very close friends while I was in my rehabilitation program.  I love the body shape of a Telecaster.  I love the dark wood stain body with the pearl pick guard.  It’s also autographed to me by one of my 3 favourite artists, Ian Thornley of “Big Wreck”.

I find the neck of a Fender very uncomfortable.  The fret board is maple like the rest of the neck, the tuning pegs are odd & I’m just not a fan of the single coil pickups in it.  I can get the “rock” sound out of it, but I really have to adjust the way I play it.  It looks so good though, for that and sentimental reasons it’s hung on the wall as a piece of art that never gets played.  It’s a guitar I can’t part with.

Fender makes about 9 different neck radiuses.  I’ve tried 4 & haven’t liked one yet.  It is a VERY nice looking guitar though!  Ideally I’d get a different neck bolted on with different tuners & different fret board, I’d also have a Humbucker pickup in the bridge position.  At that point I might as well buy an SE for what it would cost?  I’ve convinced myself that as a stay at home guitarist, making no income, a PRS SE is unaffordable.  I’ll have to hear my PRS S2 first to see IF I’d ever consider getting another guitar in the VERY distant future. I’d look at a PRS SE first, the most affordable PRS on the market & likely shy away due to the price tag.

Dave Grohl, Ian Thornley, Foo Fighters & Big Wreck have been my favourite musicians & bands since they started.  Myles Kennedy & Alter Bridge have been added to the top of my list when Alter Bridge released their first album in 2004.

I watched a youtube video with lead guitarist, Mark Tremonti, of Alter Bridge who has a signature PRS model.  He gives a guitar away to an audience member at the end of every live show now.  I just want the opportunity to see them live!

So why didn’t I order the PRS SE 35th Anniversary McCarty?  I figured if I’m going to buy what is likely my last guitar, I want something completely different.  What features do I not have that the PRS I ordered does?  It is semi-hollow, the different pickups split between humbucker & single coil pickups, it has a tremolo bridge & bar, it’s a different yet distinct body style, yellow to red sunburst finish, & it has locking tuners.

The guitar I ordered is not a super expensive “Core” model or a least expensive SE model.  It’s in their S2 line which is built at the American factory with a few cheaper parts from the factory oversea, where the SE is built.  PRS implemented this S2 line to have a guitar at a different price point.

Hopefully I’ll find a part time online job in the meantime, something simple like data entry?  I’d still like to exercise in the mornings for a couple of hours.

As far as a house goes we have to sell first & find a place for us in a set amount of time.  I really don’t see this working out in our favor?  May destiny prove me wrong please?  We’re only looking for a one level bungalow in Regina with 3 or 4 bedrooms, it has to be out there somewhere? 1 or 2 of the spare rooms would be used as an office(s). Kim wants an attached garage so my wheelchair doesn’t have to go through the snow, & I can’t work on finishing a basement, so that would be ideal.  As far as I can tell that doesn’t exist in Regina?

We did put up some artwork in the living room.  8 vinyl Foo Fighters albums in frames.  Just awaiting the delivery of the “Wasting Light” record.  Hopefully it comes this week?  This album was released in April of 2011 as I was beginning to walk with my walker, well relearning how to walk, very shortly after I learned how to stand in my rehabilitation program while holding on to something for balance.

As for concerts, they’d better be in Regina, Moose Jaw, or Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.  Foo Fighters & Alter Bridge in Alberta, Saskatchewan, or Manitoba.  I’d like to see TOOL in either Alberta or Manitoba this year but I saw them 3 times on their last tour, 2006, 2007, & in Regina in 2010.  Alter Bridge are looking at doing some shows in western Canada for the first time, fingers crossed!

I’ll shut up about guitar.  It’s the only hobby I can do physically other than TV, movies, & listening to music.  I could ramble about Blue Jays baseball if you prefer but I can see that going over like a lead balloon!

If you’re getting this through Facebook, give it a like or other reaction, or share it.  That’s the only way of promoting this site, since I’m not profiting from this in any way.

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

5 day exercise total; 400 pushups, 600 leg lifts, 450 crunches, 200 tricep lifts, 450 squats, 300 back flexes.

I fell asleep to “Soundgarden” the album “Badmotorfinger”

I exercised to “Nothing But Thieves” their first self – titled release

Right out of the gate, I have not been in a bad mood since early 2012.  My depression crept up on me & exploded last week.  My stubbornness is genetic, but that’s no excuse for it.  My depression showed me last week that, as hard as I try, I can’t control it.  So as of this post I have yet to hear anything from a psychologist or therapist.  Psychiatrists give you pills.

I’ve seen a psychiatrist & I’m on 2 anti-depressants in the morning & 2 anti-psychotics over night.  The pills are not enough though.  I need to speak with a professional who’s not a psychiatrist.

Tuesdays & Thursdays are the days of the week I despise.  Those days I find very difficult exercise wise.  Each of those days are 200 pushups & 100 tricep lifts.  I feel good after I get those exercises done.  Before I do them you probably would be better off not talking to me.  That’s why I do them ASAP after I wake up.

What do I do after my exercise each day?  My exercises take me about 1 ½ hours each day, then I watch the late night talk shows, Stephen Colbert & Jimmy Fallon.  Then a sports talk radio show on TV, maybe part of a movie, or just listen to music & stretch out on the couch.  If there’s something I can do around the house.  That always takes priority after my blog is posted.

Somewhere in there I have a small lunch of fish or a lettuce wrap with Dijon mustard, a slice of cheese & turkey deli meat.  Breakfast is always a hardboiled egg, a ½ glass of veggie juice, & a piece of fruit.  There’s always a shower in there too!  0% yogurt with blue berries for a snack or rice crackers & hummus.

When Kim comes home we watch “The Ellen Degeneres Show” & then I get to practice walking with my walker usually.  We’re still trying to make that a part of our routine.  I don’t usually want to do it, but I know I need to!  “Yay, more exercise” – said no one ever!

Lars Ulrich did something good for a change!  I’m sure he’ll contradict himself, as usual, in a week or two.  ‘Streaming music is hurting the music industry’!  One week later ‘I have 9 iPods in my house, full of music from Spotify’!  I like Metallica.  Lars has always bugged me, even before the “Napster” ordeal, which he was right about.

I watched “Aquaman” on Thursday & it’s AMAZING!  I should have seen it in theaters.  I rarely see a movie in theaters now, but I should!

JANELLE MONAE

I saw her performance on the Grammy Awards, & thought “WOW!  A song that sounds heavily inspired by Prince!”  I got the album later that week.  I know nothing about her other than the album “Dirty Computer” is really good!  She has other albums out, 2 or 3 I’m not sure.  There’s not a song on this album that’s not labeled as explicit, so beware there is LANGUAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

Quiet Mother’s Day.  Over to my parents’ house for BBQ chicken & ribs, avocado salad & potato salad.  Followed by 2 tasty cakes.  Yes, I tried both cakes to make sure they were up to standard for everyone else……You’re welcome, I aim to please!

Lots of people there for supper.  Mom, dad, Kent, Leanne, my cousins Megan Gagnon, Danielle Gagnon, Grandma, Grandpa, aunt Leanne’s parents, Clint & Dorothy White, Mitch, Rachel was at a wedding shower, Kim & I.  I feel as though I’m missing someone?  Sorry, lots of people & 2 dogs, Mac & Goose, Brewster stayed with Sherry & James.

Yes, I have converted my dad into a “Big Wreck”, “Foo Fighters”, & “Royal Blood” fan & now a “Queens of the Stone Age” fan.  I saw “Royal Blood” open for “Foo Fighters” with my father in 2015.  I’ve never seen “Queens of the Stone Age” before this though.  A very quick trip to Calgary to see the show.  Drive on Wednesday, get there in time for supper.  Concert was on Thursday night.  Drove back to Regina on Friday & got here at about 6:00 pm.  A big thank you to my Aunt & Uncle Kent & Leanne Fraser for letting dad & I stay at their house!  Kent is my dad’s younger brother

When we saw Foo Fighters in 2015 my uncle said to me, “So you’ll only come to Calgary if Foo Fighters are in town?”  I should have said this time “Nope, we’ll come for Queens of the Stone Age too!”  In actuality Kim & I might go there for a bit of vacation time during the summer in the next few years.

This is just to show that a guy in a wheelchair can get out & still live a relatively ‘normal’ life with the help of family & friends!  My legs work a bit, so I’ll need help if I’m somewhere new.  By the 2nd day I figured out how to stand at the washroom counter on the main floor & the second floor to brush my teeth & wash my face.  Dad had to help me get to the toilet, not really a big deal?

The concert was FANTASTIC!  Royal Blood now has 2 ten song albums out & Queens of the Stone Age have 7 albums out.  The most recent album was produced by Mark Ronson who released 1 album with guest vocalist including “Uptown Funk” with “Bruno Mars”, I was curious at first just to hear what would come out of the 2 working together and the album was really good, live was even better.  Royal Blood opened…

Queens of the Stone Age were the headliner.  I’m not sure how long Royal Blood played for but they started right at 8:00 pm, which was nice, & Queens of the Stone Age finished right at 11:00 pm.  Short show, but well worth the trip….

I remember more songs they played but that’s quite a few already!  Nice needed break!

Yes, I consider myself a Metallica fan now, a friend of mine is a HUGE fan & lent me the CDs.  I have the studio albums & the live album with the symphony.  I had a few on CD as well.  I totally agree with the musicians having a strong dislike for Napster & now all of these streaming sites.  I personally hate them.  I use iTunes, if I had the physical space I’d start a vinyl collection!  Unless you’re buying a TON of merchandise, alcohol, clothing, or a fragrance released by your favourite artists, that’s the only way they’re able to continue doing what they’re do!  They’re not making money from album sales anymore!  Swedish metal groups Opeth & In Flames have their own brand of beer from Opeth & Gin from In Flames.

https://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/metallicas-kirk-hammett-were-still-right-about-suing-napster-w520290

I used Napster, I downloaded Torrent files for free also.  While I was sick, we’d go to a music store & I’d pick out CDs, 2 a month when I was able to go home for a few hours at night.  I’d ask Kim to purchase the 2 CDs.  “Do you have this already?” she’d ask.  I usually said “Yes, the Torrent file”.  I carried on this way until CDs dropped in price.  Then I started to use iTunes.  I figured, “I was working for a paycheck, why not musicians?”  You’re entitled to get your music however you like.  Maybe it’s different than what I choose to do?  That’s fine with me, I use iTunes & Kim uses Apple Music.  Whatever floats your boat, I use Apple Music to preview an album before I buy it on iTunes.

“Trivium” needs to come back to Saskatoon, as well as “In Flames”.  Not only to play a show there but my “Trivium” & “In Flames” shirts both have a hole in the right armpit.  Now designated as exercise shirts.

Trailer for the movie “Bohemian Rhapsody” AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!  I heard it was in the works & that Sacha Baron Cohen “Borat” was fired when they got into the production, finally it’s here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

http://loudwire.com/first-bohemian-rhapsody-trailer-released/

Mark Tremonti likes “The Cars”?  AWESOME!

I agree.  The Blue Jays are paying $20,000,000 a year for injured short stop, Troy Tulowitzki.  He was good for 2.5 months at the end of 2015 and currently hasn’t played since July of 2017.  His fielding is great, his hitting is more than questionable.  At least it’s not my money!  There’s about 6 rookie short stops waiting in the minor leagues, Tulowitzki has created a road block for.  The Blue Jays got him in the last week of July 2015.  He was good right up to mid-October, & hasn’t been the same since.

I fell asleep to “Myles Kennedy” his only solo album “Year of the Tiger” followed by “The Pretty Reckless” the album “Who you Selling for?”

I exercised to nothing, I forgot to get the remote down.

For breakfast coming up I will be listening to “Lamb of God” the album “Ashes of the Wake”

LANGUAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK so I’m physically disabled, that doesn’t mean I can’t do anything.  I can stand for a long time as long as I have something solid to hold onto.  I cleaned our main bathroom, mirror, sink, & toilet.  I can stand up with the pedestal sink to get the entire mirror clean.  When I stand up in the living room I have a transfer pole.  I stand there & just stretch.  Even with one hand on it & I can touch our 8 foot ceiling.  In the kitchen I can use the stove top & cook my fish in the oven.

Kim goes to work Monday-Friday, knowing I can spend 8 hours in our condo & be just fine.  I have phone numbers to call if I need something.  I think I’ve called for help once because we were out of toilet paper!  Nothing life threatening I just didn’t want to sacrifice my socks!

Knock on wood, I haven’t fallen lately & I haven’t hurt myself in doing so thus far.  I likely won’t be able to walk without a walker, but we’ll see about that?  Maybe I’ll be in a wheelchair for the rest of my life?  There’s always that possibility.

I guess what I’m saying is I can do things, some just aren’t as fast as able bodied people do.  Nobody really knows what I can or can’t do, not even Kim.  That’s not meant to hurt anyone’s feelings but even I sometimes take on something pretty much impossible & surprise myself or be disappointed that I can’t do it.  If it’s the latter I’ll look at it from a different perspective the next time.  There’s nothing wrong with trying something in a different way, as long as no one gets hurt.

THE 90s WERE GOOD & TERRIBLE AT THE SAME TIME FOR ME

Here’s some of the BAD that I would hear at the hotel 3 or more times a shift, music playing at, at least 3 events……

Those songs got old for me fast!  The following songs were instant hits for me & were never played during any events at the hotel I worked at in Banquets.

Or just Jägermeister on the rocks, at least that’s how I drink it?

http://loudwire.com/jagermeister-big-4-metal-cocktail-recipes/

Yep, rock is no longer cool.  Now everybody wants pop music at the box social or whatever the kids call it these days!

New Pearl Jam song!!!!!

Mark Tremonti’s Facebook status.  Wow, that was really fast!

“Mixing is officially done! Off to mastering….A Dying Machine”

Day light savings time was created for WWI.  Do we really need it now?  I don’t think so.  At least in Saskatchewan we don’t do it, it’s always the same time here!

The last concert I went to in 2017.  Easily the best Barenaked Ladies show I’ve ever seen.  I don’t think I’ve missed a show in Regina since 1992.  I even saw a show while I was in my rehabilitation program!

The Blue Jays seem to be barking up the same tree as last year.  They’re trying to make a starting pitcher out of Joe Biagini.  All of the fans saw this experiment crash & burn last year, Biagini was 3W-11L as a starter last year.  On Sunday he gave up 5 runs & couldn’t get out of the 2nd inning.  He’s great in the bullpen though as a reliever!  $20,000,000 short-stop might be healthy near the end of April.  Regular season starts on Thursday, March 29th.  I don’t think this will be a pretty year?

This happened to him last year in May or June?  I have not seen him on a baseball field since.

Friday was quiet.  Jolene’s birthday but Kim was pretty out of it at the end of the week.  She went to bed around 9:00 or 9:30 pm.  I stayed up to do a few things on my computer, looked at the time & figured I should pack it in.  It was 11:55 pm.

Kim felt better today, & went to take family photos of Corey, Jolene, Hannah, & their dog Dug.  I spent the majority of the day going through every song on my iTunes.  Crap I have a LOT of music on here.

I got up around 9:45 am, had breakfast, & came in here on Saturday.  I missed having lunch but I did have some tasty tortellini for supper.  Ended up coming back in here, deleting doubles & such trying to make my iTunes library as close to perfect as possible.  Looked at the clock & it was 11:50 pm.

Today I have no “Desire” to be on the computer.

Myles Kennedy’s, singer of Alter Bridge & Slash, debut single from his solo album “Year of the Tiger”.  In other Alter Bridge news, lead guitarist Mark Tremonti has promised a 4th solo album next year.

I watch a lot of his youtube videos & they’re mostly guitar videos & he’s very good.  I’ve never heard him speak.

What do you think of Myles Kennedy’s first single?  I’d say it’s decent, a nice change of pace from everything else he does.
