Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

I fell asleep to “Live” the album “Throwing Copper”, followed by “Mark Morton” his solo album “Anesthetic”

I exercised to “Corrosion of Conformity” the album “Wiseblood”

Friday’s post on here will be later than usual.  “Mid-afternoon” or later.

I was up at 8:00 am on Monday & got straight to my exercises.  I usually listen to music, but we forgot to put the remote on the charger overnight.  Kim comes home at the end of the day & we hunker down to watch “The Ellen Degeneres Show” only to find the Toronto Raptors celebration parade was recorded in it’s place.  I purposely set it to record on a Canadian channel to avoid so many “Breaking News” alerts about mass shootings in America.  A couple of years ago it was a weekly occurrence.  I’ve never really been a basketball fan & I didn’t hop on the Raptors wagon.  Good for them, but not in my list of interests.

It’s been a quiet week thus far.  The next couple of days could be “EXTREME”LY busy?

I beat cancer & that’s GREAT!  Still annoying with the appointments.  Beats the alternative though.  My (cancer) doctors are always asking how I am, but with a head tilt in a really sympathetic voice.  I’m fine, but it’s getting old at this point.  I wish they would treat me like a “normal” patient.  They all did & are doing their job VERY well!

Going to the cancer clinic here is a routine now for me every year.  That’s not a typical routine for most people, it’s annoying, but again, I guess it’s a pretty good tradeoff for being alive & well.

I don’t really feel like a cancer survivor………………..until someone asks me how I’m doing.  Not that I expect them not to ask.  I’m just tired of being treated differently.  Nobody’s fault at all, but it’s been over a decade since I had cancer.  I’d likely ask the same thing.  I guess the iPatch, wheelchair, & my speech are a giveaway.  Ah well.

I’ve almost completely abandoned my pushups & tricep lifts.  Tuesdays & Thursdays are now just stretching, yoga, & weights.  They’re totally different muscles though.  I might throw in 100 pushups on those days?  Different muscles, but still working my arms on those days, we’ll see what happens next week?

I don’t know of any fans of “Ghost”.  Anybody that’s anticipating new music from them will have to wait until 2020.

https://loudwire.com/ghost-tobias-forge-new-album-2020/?fbclid=IwAR2vR7hTwdLWDTiYfdbnM_aZHHa7QE4y1BcPZiA0G-ZsnlHDxJ7mGSiZhyc

It must take quite a while to finish a professional release?  Sum 41, Big Wreck, Chevelle, Alter Bridge, & Tool, all say they’re done recording.  I have 2 Sum 41, 2 Big Wreck singles, & one song from The Agonist from a future album.  Anthrax, Megadeth, & Pearl Jam are said to be releasing new material this year also.  I’m a bit worried they’ll all just unleash their albums all at the same time.

I don’t have Big Wreck on preorder.  A recent death in the band easily explains the hold up of a release though.

July = Sum 41, August = Tool maybe, October = Alter Bridge, & September = The Agonist.

Dave Mustaine, former lead guitarist Metallica & now singer/guitarist/founder of Megadeth has been diagnosed with throat cancer.  His doctors have a plan that has a 90% success rate.

https://loudwire.com/megadeth-dave-mustaine-diagnosed-throat-cancer/?fbclid=IwAR0D5Cw2vV5DkrxMDRUDcz1-UPpQ9LTx2OSM9Z61267Af_4lrYbnJAajWfA

If I can survive stage 4 brain cancer (5-15% chance of coming out of a coma).  I’m likely to think Dave Mustaine can beat throat cancer with a 90% success rate of surviving!

Dave Mustaine seems very driven to release a new Megadeth album despite his throat cancer diagnoses.  We’ll see, I wouldn’t blame if it didn’t come out this year.

Big Wreck announced tour dates.  A few in the Maritimes, & the rest throughout America.

WHAT???????  Facebook bans Led Zeppelin art work for the album “Houses of the Holy”.  I would think a band like “Cannibal Corps” would be the first target if they’re doing this?

ASCOT ROYALS (revised)

I made a mistake last time I wrote about them.  They’re not done!  I found a single on iTunes just after the previous blog about them.  This is the group I saw opening for Big Wreck a few years ago on their “Grace Street” tour at the Casino in town.  I thought they were REALLY good.  A bit softer than Big Wreck, they fit together very well though.

Single released in 2018   EVIL I KNOW

I’ll correct my mistakes on here it just might take a while before I notice them.

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

Music throughout the weekend.  “Devin Townsend”, “In Flames”, “Mark Morton”, “Lamb of God”

I figured I’d just carry on as usual, I’ve always been a little wacky anyways.  My mood is far more level more often than not.  I like my workout physically & here’s hoping I can get to talk to someone who can help me with my head & get it back to normal.  I’d never hurt anyone physically unless they were intending to harm my family or friends.  If it’s a family member hurting another family member, they can figure that out on their own.

Of course I’ll carry on with this blog & exercises.  I think even the mental part of this could be somewhat to do with cancer.  I could be wrong though & I don’t want to play the cancer card as an excuse for my mental health, that wouldn’t be fair in my eyes.  I want to go through this as transparent as possible!  You get to see all of the upcoming blemishes & triumphs as usual.  I like that this blog is transparent.  I want someone/anyone else in a similar situation to read this & figure out what they need to do.

Honestly, metal music calms me down.  I guess it’s my mood that dictates my music choice for that moment?  I can listen to it & mentally try to make sense of the controlled chaos or just disappear into the sound of the music.  Same deal with Blue Jays baseball.  I know the Blue Jay players & they’re the only team I watch but this could be the same thing with any baseball team.  It’s a distraction for my mind.  I know the game to an extent.  If you’re not thinking about how many outs there are, what inning it is, or the outcome of what to do wherever the ball will end up on every pitch, you’re doing it wrong.

Kim says that since I can’t see anyone yet, I should try writing 3 things a day for 21 days, that I’m thankful for.  I can do that!  A) I’m alive.  B) I’m with Kim.  C) Our extended, immediate family & friends that are AWESOME!  A)  Brewster is a very well behaved dog.  B)  I was raised very well.  C)  I live in Canada without the rule of a wanna be dictator.

Friday evening was the 2nd Blue Jays regular season game.  Our “niece” tells me every time she sees me.  “Uncle Chris, we don’t watch baseball in our house.”  She cracks me up!  Just the way she says it!

I’m not American or interested in politics in most cases but watching CNN “from a good safe distance” is very entertaining.

Before Saturday’s game, there’s only 160 games to go.  The pitching & very young players are doing a FANTASTIC job so far.  Even in their first game of the season which they lost 2-0 they played really well!  New, fresh people are good to see & I don’t have any expectations for them this year.  If they win 60-70 games I’d call it a success!  It will be a year full of “Growing Pains”

We watched “The Dirt” on Netflix Friday evening.  I prefer the book.  I’ve never been a fan of their music.  They did it for the wrong reasons if you ask me.  They did it for a life of booze, heroin, cocaine, & to have sex with every female they encountered.  I had 1 or 2 groupies in our first band & I couldn’t get rid of them fast enough.  “No.  I’m not coming up to your hotel room.  I’ve got a TON of gear to load up & a girlfriend.  You can kiss me on my cheek & find someone else to fool around with”.  Not something I’ll ever be interested in!

Kim stepped out to get a few things.  She has been cleaning EVERYTHING Friday & Saturday!  I’ll shout at her from the couch and ask “KIM DO YOU WANT ME TO DO ANYTHING?” & she always says no.  My weekends are quite easy that way.  Stay out of her way & don’t move until I’m told & I randomly ask if I can help with anything.

We finished the day with a spinach & strawberry salad & BBQ steaks.  I made my veggie juice for the week & a glass & ½ of a fruit smoothie.  We watched part 1 of the “Leaving Neverland” documentary, so not for kids!

Part 2 of “Leaving Neverland” this morning, a play date with Mitch & Rachel’s pup.  Toronto Blue Jays 4th game into the regular season & the Blue Jays are 2W-2L.  Better than I expected, but when you consider the small sample size & who they were playing against, this doesn’t really tell you anything yet.  158 games to go around the half way mark in the season is when you can really tell.

THE AGE OF ELECTRIC

Saskatchewan rock band that got 0:05 seconds of fame & broke up after 2 albums.  I believe they grew up in small town Saskatchewan.  I think the singer, Todd Kerns, is now playing bass for Slash.  The guitar player moved on to form a band called “Limblifter” with his brother or cousin on drums?  I only have “The Age of Electric’s” first self – titled album, I heard a lot of the 2nd album that our bass player, Rob Wirtz, in University had.  I’ll give you a bit of both albums in order.

1995   THE AGE OF ELECTRIC

1996   MAKE A PEST A PET

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

I fell asleep to “Pretty Vicious” singles & a 4 song EP

I exercised to “Foo Fighters” the album “There is Nothing Left to Lose”

LANGUAGE!!!!!

Sorry this is a bit late today.  I had a routine doctor appointment.  I had some blood work for him to look over & I needed some refills on my pills.  My doctor comes into the room & asks “Hi, what do for you today?”  My instant reply “Not much, we just came to see what’s new & how you’re doing?”

This website was started for 2 reasons.  The first reason was to incorporate my left hand.  Hasn’t helped, my left hand is, to this day, very shaky!  Can’t even play guitar & I try for 15 minutes a week, my hand just won’t do what my brain tells it to do.

The second reason is to keep everyone up to date on my cancer recovery, which I guess is still an ongoing process.  I’m cancer free now for over 10 years, yet I’m left in a wheelchair, with an iPatch, no drivers’ license, & slow reflexes in my arms.

So I’ve beaten brain cancer.  Now I’m trying to repair what it left me with.  The exercising is to get me walking again & regain my sense of balance.  My left eye can’t be helped, it’s a nerve issue that has to fix itself.  The specialist I saw in Saskatoon in 2013 said she could do 30 surgeries on it but there’s a strong possibility that nothing would change.  It’s not just a lazy eye, it has to do with the nerve.

You know those advertisements on TV for a new pill that will fix one thing but has a possibility of 30+ side effects.  That’s just weird!  I’m on pills & the side effect is dry mouth.  That’s why I drink so much water.  Even black coffee dries me out, solution, water & nothing but during the week.  Even on St. Patrick’s day, I had 1 beer & 2 or 3 liters of water.

Look at that.  50 people die in a Mosque in New Zealand.  The first thing I heard after the shooting is that the government will be changing the gun laws!  The shooter bought 4 guns LEGALLY.  Kudos to the New Zealand government.  Hopefully other countries will follow?

I’m more than ready for a Big Wreck preorder or release date!

MARK MORTON

I’m a longtime fan of “Lamb of God”, so when one of their guitarists releases a solo album with guest vocalists on each song, of course I’ll buy it!  What I kind of don’t really care about, is how this guy, who made a documentary called “A Headbanger’s Journey” calls this a rock album?  Not sure how he figured that as a genres to put this album in, but what do I know?  I don’t think any straight up rock fan would search for this album?  I was a rock music fan & nothing else.  I would never have bothered seeking this album out!  I’d call this a metal album with a few rock songs on it.

So, here are some notable songs from the album….

Music throughout the weekend.  “In Flames”, “Mark Morton”, “The Damned Things”, “Dream Theater”, “Muse”, & “The Watchmen”

The rest of Friday was quite tame, Brewster had trim on Saturday at 8:00 am.  We had enough time to get coffee & cinnamon buns to go.  He loves the groomers & only takes about an hour to get a wash & trim.  He smelled like coconut & still does a bit.

We were tired & had a nap.  Kim on the couch, I got onto the floor to sleep beside my Homeslice, who immediately got on the couch with Kim.  They curled up on the couch together, & I used Brewster’s favourite blanket as a pillow on the floor.  Once I got off of the floor I watched some preseason baseball along with 2 Guiness beer.  Irish beer that’s way too dark to make green.

She’s got a TON on her plate today.  Today Kim is finishing her homework for her photography class, I’ll do some cleaning, she’ll get some groceries & finish the laundry.  I’ll boil some eggs & make a veggie juice for the week.  Then we’ll relax.

DAVID BOWIE

You know him & you either like him or can’t stand him.  I have no problem with him.  One of my dad’s favourite music acts, & yes unfortunately he’s no longer with us.  I only have 2 “Greatest Hits” albums & the album “Tonight” so here we go…..

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

I fell asleep to “Into Eternity” the album “The Sirens”

I exercised to “Foo Fighters” the album “Wasting Light”

5 day exercise total; 400 pushups, 600 leg lifts, 300 crunches, 200 tricep lifts,  450squats, 300 back flexes, & some walking this week.

I hate doing exercise as much as the next person.  Eating healthier is not a big deal to me.  I will say it’s a bit more expensive though.  Nobody hates walking, right?  Now that it’s way more work for me, I don’t care for it much.  I loved going for a walk on a fall evening on my own.  I don’t really miss that, but sometimes I just like the fall air.

I don’t look like I exercise as much as I do, & that’s a fact.  My parents are impressed by how physically strong I am though.  That was good to hear from my mother yesterday.

Yesterday Kim didn’t even have to hold on to me or my walker, she followed close behind though.  I don’t enjoy practicing walking when she gets home.  I’ve already exercised in the morning.  It’s a necessary evil in my mind.  I’d much rather sit or lay on the couch until she gets home, help with supper & forget about going walking.  We’ve gone walking more than last year, but it’s not much really.  Time to make it part of our routine!  This is again more quality than quantity.

I can tell by Thursday that my body is getting tired.  My arm exercises become very difficult.  Some days it feels like immediately after my 39th birthday my body just shut down & said “NO!  No more of that!”  I’m gonna keep going though, “somethings gotta give”, & it will not be my body!

The new “In Flames”, “Mark Morton”, & “Dream Theater” albums are ruling my world since they were released.  “In Flames” will be in in my top 5 albums of 10 for the year.  There will be new albums from “Alter Bridge”, “Big Wreck”, & “Tool”, if they’re not lying about it?

A follow up to these albums…

This single is out for purchase.  I assume it will be coming with the album preorder?

COUNTRY MUSIC?

I’m not about to rant about my dislike for most country music.  I’d like to know why some are considered country music & others aren’t?  Why does everything have to fit in a perfect spot/genres?  Why is it that these acts are considered country music?

The following groups I have seen on CMT, for these specific songs & I don’t know why?

After all of that, why isn’t the following considered country music?

Why not call all of these acts Contemporary Music & leave it at that?  There are so many sub genres in metal it’s ridiculous, speed metal, thrash metal, death metal, black metal, progressive metal, power metal, nu metal, alternative metal, etc.  When someone asks me “What kind of music do you listen to?”  I reply “Rock & metal for the most part.”  For me, metal is just called metal.

I’m not a fan of multiple sub-genres.  There’s rap, pop, country, rock, metal, electronic dance music, instrumental, classical, reggae, operatic, hymns, acoustic, contemporary, & world music (from other countries).  I don’t like sub genres, just the proper genres/main genres.

The more you share this, the more readers I get.  No, I’m not profiting from this in any way.  I can’t tell who’s reading this but thank you!

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

I fell asleep to “Paramore” the album “All We Know is Falling”

I exercised to “Mark Morton” his only solo album “Anesthetic”

I’ve noticed that with my exercise & paying more attention to what I eat or drink, I’m nowhere near as sick as I used to be.  Before cancer, I was sick about once a month if not more.  Now, after cancer, I get sick maybe once a year.

I’m still about 230 pounds.  Since I’m unable to get rid of my beer belly.  If/when I hit 210, that’s where I should be.  I need to do more cardio!  If I get any lower than 210, I’ll be nothing but “skin & bones”.

Sunday finished with me spilling or dropping everything I touched……………………Should have stayed in bed!

Hello Monday!  Ugh!  Brewster REALLY needs a trim.  Pooped on his pad as he should, then came off his pad, shook & unleashed 5 klingons.  Then proceeded to drag/scratch his butt all over the house.  Had to clean up some warm, smelly, squishy dog poop, & OOH MY IT SMELLED.  Poor little guy.  I could tell he’d been holding it in for that reason.

Just when I think he’s done I came here to the computer, go out, & there’s poop & butt streaks EVERYWHERE.  No I wouldn’t get mad at him over this, he tried & knows he did.  He just REALLY needs a trim.

Between writing this, exercising, having breakfast & lunch, cleaning up after Brewster, tending to the full dishwasher, washing a few dishes, & showering, I didn’t hit the couch until about 3:00 pm.  I was tired & sweaty!

Yesterday Kim was home sick with that awful cold that’s been going around.  So far I’m the only one amongst our immediate family that hasn’t had.  My mother, father, brother, sister-in-law, & now Kim have caught it or currently have it.

Kim’s OK & back at work today.  It’s 9:30 am here & already +24 Celcius in here (+75.2 Fairenhight) it’s only going to get warmer.  Time to open a few windows!

TAYLOR HAWKINS & THE COATTAIL RIDERS

Foo Fighters needed a drummer & Taylor wanted to be in a band.  Foo Fighters grabbed him from Alanis Morisette in 1997 while she was riding high on her album “Jagged Little Pill”.  Dave Grohl reminded him that if he practiced with them that he would have to join Foo Fighters.

Taylor wanted this to be called simply “The Coattail Riders” the label insisted that Taylor Hawkins put his name on it to boost sales.  Since I live in Canada, I had to order the 2 CDs they released each ordered on a release date when CDs were a thing.  The first S/T album is really good the second one was a stinker though.  This was Taylor Hawkins first release while drumming for Foo Fighters.  He had already started his cover band “Chevy Metal” though.  I’ll just give you some stuff from the first release.

2006

Foo Fighters were going to release a song called “Get up I wanna get down” on their 4th album but couldn’t work out the arrangement, this was released 2 years later.  I have no clue if this version sounds anything like the original that wasn’t released?

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

I fell asleep to “In Flames” the new album “I, The Mask” 24 or 25 years into his career as a singer he took vocal lessons.  In Flames began their career in the early 90s.

I exercised to “Mark Morton” the new album/his only solo album “Anesthetic”

Tried listening to some “Stevie Wonder” & thought about “The Struts”.  I exercised in silence for some time, I couldn’t figure out what I wanted to listen to?  Default to metal.

Remember that time when I said I was going to lower some numbers?  That only partially happened.  Only thing that changed was my tricep lifts to 100 instead of 150 a day.  Pushups & squats went back up to their regular numbers.  I just focused more on what I was doing.

I really didn’t want to get out of bed on Monday.  I was awake when Kim left for work, I just didn’t want to move.  Good thing I had to pee or I would’ve been in there until 9:00 am.  9:00 am or later means (get out of bed & start doing stuff).  In my head anyways.  8:00 am is perfect for me, I should get an alarm clock from Walmart for $15, not a cell phone but an alarm clock!  As long as I don’t have to charge it & it’s not battery operated.

Too many chords to charge everything already.  “Oh, but wireless stuff is great!”  Not for me, I was flabbergasted when I had to charge my Fit Bit, I still am.  I have to swipe it if I want to know the time????????????  It tells me a bunch of other nonsense that I don’t care to know & it doesn’t track my steps while in my wheelchair or walking with my walker.  Useless piece of expensive garbage, for me.

I only saw a few minutes of Telemiracle this weekend.  Saskatchewan talent to help raise money for the handicapped or other medical needs.  I’m not sure if my brother was born yet, I asked my mom if she could call in for me, I wanted to donate the $10 I had.  This is likely just after I turned 5 or 6 years old.  Of course she said yes & I got to have my name scroll across the TV with the names of other people who had donated.

The last concert we played before I went into the hospital was a Telemiracle benefit concert & all of the money raised went to Telemiracle.

Little did I know, I’d need help from Telemiracle?  Telemiracle paid the larger portion of our wheelchair van for us.  The total cost was $18,000 I think?  I can’t remember how much Telemiracle put in, it was at least $10,000.

I should mention that I started watching “Murder Mountain” on Netflix last week.  It’s a reality show/documentary about marijuana growers in Humboldt County, in California.  With the mystery of people that go missing & are never found.  There are flyers everywhere that say “Have you seen this person?”  One of them has been missing for 23 years.  No body or any evidence.

Seems like “Alter Bridge” are almost done recording their 6th studio album.  They already have bundles with a listening party for sale on their Facebook page & website!  https://alterbridge.com/collections/abvi-fan-packages

THE KING’S SINGERS

I was in 3 different choirs in high school.  Concert choir for anyone, Chamber Choir, & I auditioned for the provincial Honour choir thinking I likely wouldn’t make it in but SURPRISE I did.  I think the Chamber choir was an audition as well, long time ago, I can’t remember.  The chamber choir went to Newfoundland in the summer after grade 11.  It was for a 500th anniversary of John Cabot landing his ship there.  There were multiple choirs from just about everywhere.  Workshops, performances, all capped off with an hour long performance of “Carmina Burana” with a symphony, 3 soloists, & all of the choirs!  Here’s 1 movement of 25

During 1 of our workshops we sang with The King’s Singers.  When we came back I rushed out & bought 3 of their CDs.  2 are albums full of cover songs & 1 is a bunch of classical songs I don’t know.  I think the concert choir sang one of the songs I have on CD.  One album is full of The Beatles songs in 5 part harmony A Capella.  This first song they jumped into the choir with us to sing along.

What’s really funny about this is that there is metal/“Testament” playing in the other room as I’m writing this!  Yeah, I’m weird!

Please share this, I’m not profiting from this at all.  Word of mouth is the only way of promoting this.
