Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

5 days of exercise total; 400 pushups, 600 leg lifts, 300 crunches, 300 tricep lifts, 450 squats, 300 back flexes

I fell asleep to “The Struts” the only 2 albums they have out “Everybody Wants” & “Young & Dangerous”.

I exercised to “Kelly Clarkson” the album “All I Ever Wanted”

YOU WONT HEAR FROM ME UNTIL MONDAY OR TUESDAY.  FAMILY DAY ON MONDAY A VACATION DAY.

One thing that I’d like to explain clearly.  There was body shaming going around Kelly Clarkson.  I said that “I’ll never see her so it doesn’t matter” what I meant was, I’ll never see her live & if she’s happy & feels healthy, who cares.  Weight or no weight she still sounds the same.

I did get a little more information from my mother about the day I passed out at work & was diagnosed with stage 4 brain cancer.

Mom was home sick with the flu, Kim, dad, & Mitch were all at work.  It was morning of Tuesday, February 5th.  Time of day is questionable.  I was taken to the Pasqua hospital, Kim came into the back of the Ambulance with me.  They took me to the wrong hospital, I was then taken to the General hospital.  My parents, brother, Sherry & James were all there before us.  I guess my mom was a wreck.  She kept asking if I was there yet.  They kept telling her that I wasn’t.  She then mentioned that her son mass bleeding in his brain.  They told her I was on the way there.

Once I was at the right hospital the surgeon was tied up finishing a lengthy surgery.  I had to wait a bit to have 2 of my 3 brain surgeries.  My brother had to restrain my mother so the doctors could do their job.  He had to tell her that while pulling her back.   I blacked out in the Ambulance before it left the parking lot at work.  So this part of it I don’t remember at all.

I was unconscious for a week in an induced coma & 3 weeks in an un-induced coma.  I was in the ICU that entire time.

My mother wanted to stay once I was in the ICU, she wanted to have someone familiar for me to wake up to.  One of the nurses finally told her to just go home, since I wasn’t going to wake up that day.

The next day, I assume, I had my 3rd brain surgery.  Every night until I woke up, someone was sitting with me in case I woke up after being told I had a 5-15% chance of waking up at all.  Mom, dad, Mitch, & Kim I believe all took turns sitting with me in case I woke up.

I did wake up in the ICU.  I think Kim was just outside of the ICU?  I vaguely remember waking up.  There were a handful of empty beds in the ICU & the nurse brought whoever was there in to see me & knew I wanted to get out of that room.  I was moved to the Pasqua Hospital for recovery & low intensive physiotherapy.  I stayed there for a little more than a year.  Celebrated my 29th birthday in January of 2009 in the auditorium there, with roughly 75 friends & family.  Mom made a TON of chili for everyone, Grandma made 2 big cakes vanilla & chocolate, & a cooler full of pop.  I haven’t walked on my own since the morning of Tuesday, February 5th, 2008.  Ah well, at least I can work on it! This story might never have been told, by me at least.  I don’t remember it well as I get further away from that date.  “In the end it doesn’t even matter.”  I’m here but I don’t remember much of 2008, I was asleep for most of that year.  “You gotta sink before you swim” I guess?

All of this talk of surviving cancer tells me I’m not done here yet!  There’s something else I need to do.

Yep, I planned Valentine’s Day supper for Kim.  A Reservation at her favourite restaurant, & my parents could take Brewster for the evening.  Brewster has serious anxiety issues & can’t be left alone.

On Wednesday she came home from work & decided she’d rather stay in.  Easier to hear me, I have a fairly quiet voice.  Kim came home with Dairy Queen for supper & some DQ ice cream for both of us. We just watched TV & cuddled on the couch.  So, another quiet evening at home.

She also bought me some beer, she knows me all too well!  I don’t drink during the week though.  I’ll try some of the craft beer from “Rebellion Brewing Co.” later on today!

A teaser for the upcoming “Big Wreck” album!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope everyone enjoyed their Valentine’s Day!!!!

THE NORTHERN PIKES

I think most of Saskatchewan has heard of the one album I have.  4 guys from Saskatoon did very well for themselves & have around 11 albums in the iTunes store.  My parents had this album, & I’ve had it for a little while too.  I bought mine on iTunes though.  If you live in Saskatchewan you have at least heard a tune or 2 from this album…

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

Music throughout the weekend.  “U2”, “Pretty Vicious”, “Finger Eleven”, & “Dead Sara”

Not much happening here Friday evening, just a TON of recorded TV shows, with a small dash of rum.

Saturday started out weird.  In the past week I’ve been waking up around 5:00 am.  I don’t go to school, have a job, or a child but I wake up as if I do?  I did it again Saturday morning.  If I forget to take my bedtime pills I wake up early which I did once in Calgary last year when I saw “Queens of the Stone Age”.  That one I understand, the recent ones, I have no idea why?

Saturday ended with Kim taking me to the new liquor store which is very impressive, especially if you like wine of ANY kind.  We went to Corey & Jolene’s place for supper & early enough to hang out with the kids before supper.  This was my birthday with them.  Hannah’s had 2 piano lessons, she’s doing really well but she’s no “Elton John”…………………..yet.  Little Bennett sat beside me at supper in his highchair & was very intrigued with me the entire time.  They’re both cute kids.  Hannah’s a FANTASTIC big sister!

We had roast beef, corn & peas, along with cheesy noodles.  Cupcakes for dessert.  Fun hanging out with them.  Always a great time!

Well, the fun’s over for this weekend.  We’ll be doing the usual, getting ready for the upcoming week.  I will also be avoiding the most overhyped football game of the year.  I just can’t sit through 4 hours of football.  The CFL is 3 hours & if it goes into overtime, I hope that somebody wins in the first mini game.  NFL is always scheduled for 4 hours without overtime, I never watch it.  I’ve tried, but can’t do it.

Will they ever make the week & weekend into a 3 day weekend & a 4 day week?

What’s going on with the DC comic movies?  I also have an idea as to why the Marvel movies are beating the crap out of them at the box office.  OK, Batman vs. Superman was somewhat boring to a lot of people.  The rest of them are darker & they’re looking for an “R” rating for the movie after “Aquaman”.  Parents can & do take their kids to Marvel movies.  I don’t have a child & I wouldn’t even consider taking ANY child to a DC comic movie.  So DC started with a questionable movie, & continues to make darker movies not aimed at kids.  No kids at DC comic movies=smaller box office profits.

Look at the many reasons the new Tool album took 13 years to make.

Now I feel REALLY old!

LINKIN PARK

The rock/rap group that managed to stick around & be successful until the unfortunate death/suicide of singer Chester Bennington.  A 6 member group.  2 guitars, 1 bassist, 1 drummer, 1 DJ, singer Chester Bennington & rapper Mike Shinoda who’s one of the guitarists.  Based somewhere in California.  They have released a TON of albums including, mashup albums with Jay-Z, live albums, & many of their own studio albums.  Not one of those bands I would get highly excited for a new release, but I do have 9 of their albums including 2 live albums.  They got together in 1996 under a different name & released their first successful album in 2000 under the name Linkin Park.  I’ll focus on 3 of their studio albums I quite enjoy….

I fell asleep to “Smashing Pumpkins” the album “SHINY & OH SO BRIGHT VOL. 1 / LP: NO PAST.  NO FUTURE. NO SUN”

I exercised to “Muse” the album “Simulation Theory”

Please donate to the Canadian Red Cross for my birthday on January 30th?  Still 7 weeks left to donate.  I don’t even know whose blood is in me, however, it did save my life.  The goal is $1000, just started & were at $60.  I used to donate blood, but now I can’t.  Donate money, blood, refreshments after a blood donation, or any way you can, please?

Kim told me on the weekend not to make any plans, so I didn’t.  She comes home from work yesterday & tells me “We’re going here on this day & here after that, then these people are coming here & later on these people are coming here.”  She’s hilarious, but it’s all marked down & I’m up for it.  This is why I let her make the plans or include her in an email or Facebook message.

She’s working from home today.  She’s been feeling like there’s a cold coming on since Sunday.

Every day I think to myself “I’ll take it easy on myself”.  Then I go all out to achieve the amount I have set out for myself.  I do the full amount & realize that “OH SNAP, I’ll be sore tomorrow”!  I didn’t pace myself in to this year, I just went all out beginning January 2nd, that was dumb on my part.  Not too painful to stop, just enough to tell my body “HEY, IDIOT, PACE YOURSELF!”

No hot water Monday.  1 of the 2 water heaters died aka I festered in my filthy sweat all day.  Tuesday it was replaced aka then I smelled & felt better!  On Tuesday, I did crash my head on the inside top of the fridge.  I need to stand up for something on the top shelf of the fridge, 2nd shelf of the upper cupboards, or the 2nd shelf of the pantry.

I guess I’d better get my sorry butt to the movies.  I missed “Bohemian Rhapsody” in the theaters & “Aquaman” could be missed in theaters also!

We did watch “Bird Box” on Netflix.  I highly recommend it.  It’s a thriller, not a horror movie.

Hear the late Chester Bennington on Lamb of God guitarist, Mark Morton’s, solo album.

Here’s part of the reason I have issues with country music.  The main reason is, it’s pop music with a thick Southern accent.  I really have issues with any Southern accent.  Kim was listening to the audiobook for “The Help” & then the movie, I couldn’t handle the southern accent, but I made it through the movie.

Also, someone please explain to me how does Carrie Underwood, Lady Antebellum & many more fit into the country music genres?  How different is their music to Taylor Swift’s pop now or Taylor Swift’s country & now pop?

I know I’ll get some backlash on this since I listen to metal & rock.  I’ll take some older style country music.  Like the Walmart yodeling kid.  At least he’s doing actual country music instead of generic pop music with a twang.

Here’s a country music fan on the state of country music.

THE BIG 4 OF METAL

Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, & Anthrax.  I like all 4 bands, Slayer in small doses though.  They’re all great & I think out of the 4 Metallica might be the most remembered when they retire.  Slayer are on their final tour.

My question is, are Metallica a metal band, a rock band or am I jaded?  In Regina our rock station only plays the odd Metallica song, but nothing from the other bands in the big 4.  Is it because they’re generic enough to play on the radio or because they’re a house hold name?  I can guarantee you’ll never hear the other 3 bands on the radio in Regina, maybe Anthrax but not likely.  Another question, why wasn’t it the big 5?  Pantera was a power house, they should have been included!

I’ve heard many songs from Metallica on the radio though, I like Metallica I’m not trying to dump on them.

Now, with Slayer retiring, who will take their place in the big 4?  I’ve heard other people mention Lamb of God, which would be great for me, but not for other fans of metal.

Don’t worry, these are the radio friendly rock songs by Metallica.

So, would you classify these songs as metal or rock?  These are some of the Metallica songs that are played on the radio.  I’d put their first 5 albums & the recent album as metal, pretend St. Anger was never made & call the other albums rock albums.  How would you break them down?

I fell asleep to “The Struts” the recent release “Young & Dangerous”

I exercised to “The Beaches” the album “Late Show”

There was nothing wrong other than Brewster had an anxiety attack.  I Woke up at 8:30 & went out to have a small breakfast & exercise.  I did my pushups & tricep lifts.  Everything was going fine.  I had 2 sets of tricep lifts to do, then Brewster anxiety flared up.  He’s going to be 13 in January.  I finished my exercise around noon.  I was occupied trying to calm him down the rest of the time.

Usually he’s sleeping all day or we’ll play for a bit if he feels like it.  We have small breed doses of Valium for him, but I don’t like watching him trip & stumble every time he gets up.

After looking online he’ll about 66 dog years old or 13 human years old in January.  I spent the majority of the morning yesterday trying to calm him down & make him feel safe.  He was shaking uncontrollably.

He’s our child, yes, he has 4 paws & turns me into putty with his big brown eyes when he looks at me!

I wonder if there’s a “Hole” reunion with Melissa Auf Der Maur around the corner.  Possibly a “Smashing Pumpkins” reunion with her taking the place of D’arcy Wretzky as she did before.

https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/courtney-love-melissa-auf-der-maur-reunite-hole-748283/?fbclid=IwAR0mP2uJfNCfo7OaJJTWY4_0l7Z2VoP4HDd7uIz2OKoz306ufON7VYUNwjs

Cool!  Chester Bennington (deceased singer for Linkin Park) recorded music with Lamb of God guitarist, Mark Morton, & we’ll get to hear it in 2019, along with a new Alter Bridge album, Lamb of God, Megadeth, & more!

As with every passing year we must include Tool.  Tool should just wait “10,000 Days” from 2006 to release new material at this point.  Roughly 27 years in total from 2006.  It’s only been 12 years at this point, we might have to wait some more?

I REALLY like “Pentatonix” but I don’t need a 4th Christmas album from them.

DIEMONDS

There is no reason for me to like this band, but I do.  Think of 1980s hair metal or Guns n’ Roses.  They’d fit right in.  The majority of the hair metal bands & Guns n’ Roses aren’t in my wheel house.  This is a current band out of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.  I missed them playing in town last year or the year before.  I didn’t think to look them up before the show, only after the show.  I’ve got 2 of 3 albums & there’s also a 7 song EP I don’t have.  So here is what I do have…..

Bad week for Stephen Colbert & Jimmy Fallon to take time off with all of the news coming out of the White House.

We were going to venture out for a while Friday, it was pretty smoky outside & ended up staying in & binge watching more of the first season of “The Fosters” on Netflix, great show!

Kim went out Saturday afternoon to take photos at a wedding.  She’s taken 3/12 classes thus far this year.  I watched a “Blue Jays in 30” & Saturday’s game followed by a Saskatchewan Roughrider game in B.C.  Both of my teams won!  Blue Jays won 8-6, & the Riders won 24-21!

Today will be lazy from here on.  We woke up at 7:30 am, we were in the kitchen by 8:00 am.  Groceries, juice & eggs are all done.  Kim’s on the last load of laundry.  Should be quiet for the rest of the day.

Kim took Friday off, you’ll get a post on Thursday & then on Monday, then Friday or Saturday?

There are a TON of charities that need help, here’s another one for you to think about.

August 25th, 1988 Metallica released “…And Justice for All”.  The album with absolutely no bass guitar at the request of drummer/talking contradiction Lars Ulrich.  Whatever he said publically last week, he’ll say the opposite next week.  ‘Streaming music sites suck!’  Two days later ‘I have 9 iPods filled with music from Spotify’.  I’m not joking, I’m paraphrasing.

THE PRESIDENTS OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA-THE SONG “PEACHES”

The lyrics in this song just baffle me!  They had a gimmick within the band also.  Bass, drums, guitarist that sang.  3 strings on the guitar instead of the usual 6, 2 strings on the bass instead of 4, & very few drums with one cymbal & a hi-hat.

I don’t listen to them much but I have both albums they released.

“Moving to the country gonna eat a lot of peaches”

“Peaches come from a can.  They were put there by a man, in a factory downtown”

“Millions of peaches, peaches for free”

Why is he moving to the country to eat peaches if they come in a can from downtown?  He never reveals his connection in the factory that gives him free peaches?  I want that connection!  Does he know there are peaches on the trees on his property?  Maybe he should learn how to can peaches in his kitchen?

Here’s a few other tunes…

I fell asleep to “Stone Temple Pilots (2018), “Tremonti” the album “A Dying Machine”, & finally “Trivium” the album “The Sin & the Sentence”

I exercised to “Gin Blossoms” 2 albums on shuffle.

You might recognize this Gin Blossoms song, it’s from a movie that was released in the 1990s

YAY!……..NOT.  It’s tick season.  I found one roaming my hair on Monday.  I assume I got it from my wife or dog who were North visiting her parents in a small town.  Just beware!

My finger is still quite tender but looks better.  2 very small bruises on the inside of my finger.  My ring finger & pinky are tender & useless.

I went to the vehicle on Friday to say goodbye to Kim & Brewster.  As I came back inside, a lady asked me if I was alone or had any assistance.  I replied “No, I’m alone, I’m OK.  My parents live in town if I need them.”

Don’t get me wrong I missed them like crazy!  It was nice to have some alone time though.  I’m rarely alone other than when Kim is at work.  I’m OK if I’m home by myself.  I’m able to do quite a bit here.  I can stand up to get something from the upper cupboards or in the pantry, I just have to hold on to the counter or doorway to reach those things.  If Kim calls & says she’ll be a bit late, I’m fine, Brewster not so much.  He knows what time she should be home by, & anxiously stares at the door within a ½ hour.

REGION FREE

I really do not like that if you’re not in the right place you can’t watch certain things.  I’ll find a www.youtube.com video & it works fine for me.  So I copy the link & put it on my blog, only to find that even I can’t view it on my blog?  Ridiculous & not needed.  If you’re able to watch something on one site, why not on another site?

Because I live in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada even www.rollingstone.com limits me from viewing some of their videos.  Odd since I subscribed to the magazine when I lived at my parents’ house, & it was delivered there no problem.

I bought a concert DVD of “In Flames” called “Sounds from the Heart of Gothenburg”.  I ordered it on www.amazon.ca.  The blu-ray had region restrictions & said it would only play on blu-ray players made in Europe, the DVD had no such warning.  I waited for about a month, it came from Germany.  As soon as I got it I tried to play it in our blu-ray player, it was regionally restricted for European made players.  I don’t understand why it is regionally restricted?  Luckily my dad had 3 region free DVD players at his house & gave me one.  Their vocals are all in English but the stage banter is all Swedish with English sub-titles.  Wouldn’t they sell more blu-rays or DVDs if it wasn’t only available for European players?  I know have a DVD player just for that one DVD, weird………….I know?

There are multiple iTunes, basically one for every country.  I didn’t even realize that until I flipped mine to see if a certain album was available in the USA.  It was but the USA iTunes didn’t recognize 25% of the songs I had on my Canadian iTunes.  “Well that’s dumb!” I said to myself & immediately switched back & all of a sudden all of my music was back.

Why not have a region free iTunes?  More exposure for the artists & more money for Apple?  This regional stuff makes 0% sense to me.  It’s on the internet, why limit certain things?  It doesn’t have to be from a certain region for me to like it.

What gets me are the Dominican Republic, Cuban, & Mexican players who have played baseball in North America for years & can’t speak a word of English in an interview & always have a translator with them.  Before you get all pissy, let me explain.

Keep using your country’s language with others that know it like your wife, children, other players, other family members, etc.  When you’re on TV doing an interview, learn some English and use it.  “In the end” they’re making multi million dollars a year, I guess paying a translator is a small drop in the bucket for them.

I’ve heard a report that there will be no downloads or CDs, or any other way other than streaming music or buying vinyl records.  Much like a new “Tool” album, I’ll believe it when it happens!  If I have to pay $10 a month, do I get reimbursed for the months I don’t stream a new album?  I prefer to just own my music (as we’ve always been able to) & pay for it once either on iTunes or CD.  This is something I’d hate to see happen.

So, is rock dead?  NO!  The music industry is royally messed up!  Rock & metal musicians are just giving into whatever’s going on & don’t care.

https://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/owning-music-buying-vinyl-cds-downloads-streaming-w521504

I’ll have a hard time streaming/renting music, if they have the option to download music I’m in, if not I’m going to purchase vinyl.  I’ve spoken to a few people at Apple, they’ve told me they’ve heard nothing about this, that or they’re lying to me.  I prefer to believe them

Yes, I spend more than $120 a year on music.  If you’re content with streaming music good for you, you have to realize or at least acknowledge that your favourite new musician might not be able to release new music on a regular basis.  So if they’re in a venue near you playing live, buy a T-Shirt or some kind of merchandise, fragrance, alcohol, etc.  They’re not making money on album streaming or even much on downloads.  If you’re not going to pay them for recording music, then you should consider buying other products with their name slapped on it.

Then you might realize something, “Why is my most hated band from the ‘70s so rich?  When my new favourite band of this current decade can’t afford a producer to record new material?”

Yes I used Napster & Torrent files.  Napster’s software was a mess.  Torrents were much better, probably due to newer technology being used.  When I was sick but able to leave the WRC for a few hours, I realized that I was part of the problem with the music industry & started purchasing CDs again.  When they dropped in price I used iTunes.

Let me get this straight.  I can sit here & pay $10/month for music that I don’t actually own, but I can’t pay & download it in the comfort of my home?  That makes no sense at all?

I don’t want to overload you with links, pick what you want to know about & feel free to skip the other stuff.  The www.youtube.com links are there for a point of reference if you don’t know what I’m talking about.

Don’t feel as though you have to open every link.

I fell asleep to “In Flames” the album “Clayman”

I exercised to “Metallica” the album “S & M”

4 day week I’ll remind you.  Kim has Monday off, so I will too.  You’ll get a blog post on Monday not Sunday, & likely Friday & again no Wednesday post.

Exercise weekly total; 800 pushups, 560 leg lifts, 400 crunches, 270 squats, 240 tricep pushups, & 160 back flexes.  Remember that I have the time to do that, you likely have a job that pays you &/or kids to look after.  I’m here pretty much every day.

I don’t increase to an insane amount when I increase the numbers of something.  Wednesday & Thursday were 75 squats instead of 60.  I was doing 3 sets of 20.  I increased each set to 25.  Nothing TREMENDOUS, just 5 more to each set.  Everything started at 10 or some at 20.  Heck I was doing pushups from my knees.  I’d set my knees back further when I hit 50, I had to figure out how to do 20 (2 sets of 10) from my feet.  They might seem like big numbers, but remember that they all started quite low & were built up over time.

Quite a few people tell Kim & I, that we’ve been through enough in those 4.5 years to last 30 years.  It might seem like a lot, but if you’re with the right person, it flies by, of course Kim’s the right person.

Last weekend was rather frustrating.  If something could go wrong (technology) wise, it did.  A lot of software/app issues.  Could be me, a user problem?  I don’t doubt that possibility at all.  I think it came together late Sunday night though.

I like Devin Townsend, I can’t get into “Strapping Young Lad” that he was a part of.  “Devin Townsend Project” is really good, they could be a gateway band into metal I would think?

In the background is Butch Vig with the shoulder length hair, mustache, & sun glasses.  He’s the producer of Nirvana’s 1991 “Nevermind” & producer for Foo Fighters’ “Wasting Light” & “Sonic Highways” & many other albums.

What does this all mean for “Linkin Park”?

10 best Iron Maiden songs by www.loudwire.com

YAY, Blue Jays baseball starts!  Game 1 of 162!  I watch as many games as possible.  If I can’t OK, Blue Jays in 00:30 it is.  I’m a hard core baseball/Blue Jays NERD, 162 games fly by for me.  I don’t know every players’ stats but I can’t get enough of the game.  3 hours a day, maybe less.  They’ve introduced new rules to help speed up things a bit.  Kind of breaks my heart but I understand that they’re trying to attract a bigger audience to the game.

The more you share this, the more readers I get.  No, I’m not profiting from this in any way.  I can’t tell who’s reading this but thank you!
