I fell asleep to “Corrosion of Conformity” the new album “No Cross No Crown”

4 day week total.  My muscles were very sore Thursday, I only did 3 of my 6 exercises & I was tinkering the numbers this.  Now I’m sick today, no exercise today.  I feel fine but my stomach completely disagrees.  All of these totals will be out of whack.  My exercising is now 50/50 of walking in the future & shedding around 25 pounds.  I developed terrible eating habits since I was doing so much therapy/exercise that I could eat ANYTHING & not gain weight.  I actually went down 2” in waist size.  I finished my therapy, & all of the weight went straight to my belly.  Everything else looks like I’m good.  My doctor didn’t even say anything about my weight.  My cancer clinic doctor will though.  Really need to do some cardio.

586 pushups, 400 crunches, 300 leg lifts, 135 triceps pushups, 120 back flexes, & 190 squats

That amount of exercise tires me out.  I need to do more if I’m ever going to “…walk again…”

I’m on anti-biotics now.  When I gave my urine sample, they found that I have a bladder infection.  I’m glad that’s all they found after testing my blood & urine, could have been much worse!

A TON of fans of whatever band think bands should change their name when a member leaves or is added.  This is my reason why they shouldn’t.

“Alice in Chains” had their singer die & now it’s basically guitarist Jerry Cantrell & friends.  “Stone Temple Pilots” just got a new singer after their original singer died a few years ago.  ¾ remain & singer Jeff Gutt just joined.  I don’t think Jeff Gutt & friends likely wouldn’t work.  “Foo Fighters” could have changed their name 6 times.  “Big Wreck” could have changed their name 3 times.  “Trivium” has released 9 studio albums & have had 7-9 different drummers.  “Finger Eleven” was known as “Rainbow Butt Monkeys” & recorded 1 album under that name.  They got a different drummer & changed their name to “Finger Eleven”, that’s fine, not many people knew who they were.  They don’t have an everyday drummer now.  They toured with a session drummer for the last album.

“Into Eternity” currently have one original member of 5 members.  The 4 other members have changed individually many times.  “Pearl Jam” took drummer Matt Cameron when “Soundgarden” broke up in ’97.  When “Soundgarden” came back he was doing double duty, drumming for both bands!  “Lamb of God” released their first S/T album as “Burn the Priest”.  They were banned from places & changed their name for their 2nd album to “Lamb of God”, I don’t recommend the “Burn the Priest” album to anyone.

So what should “Soundgarden” or “Linkin Park” do if they both get a different lead singer?  Nothing like starting from zero, “…where (nobody) knows your name…”?

  1. Alice in Chains

2013

  1. Stone Temple Pilots

2017

  1. Foo Fighters

2017

  1. Big Wreck

2017

I could go on & on, but you get my point.  Once you’re famous or somewhat famous, you wouldn’t want to start from scratch again in a band.  They have all been there & done that already, no need to do it again.  I wouldn’t, if I had too!

TOP 10 ALBUMS OF 2017/FINAL POST OF THE YEAR/WEEKLY EXERCISE TOTAL

600 pushups, 500 leg lifts & 225 triceps pushups!  Crunches & Back flexes will be thrown into the mix on January 2nd.  120 pushups, 100 leg lifts, 100 crunches, 45 triceps pushups, & 40 back flexes a day, 5 days a week.

I can’t really make a top 10, there were a TON of AWESOME albums released this year.  Singles, live albums, Greatest Hits & EPs don’t count.  So here they are, & after the first 2, everything is pretty much tied for 3rd.  It’s only a top 10 list with other albums below that didn’t quite make the cut.

After this, I’ll catch you January 1st, with a holiday update.

  1. Kelly Clarkson – Meaning of Life. Her 7th studio album, not including her Christmas album.

  1. Halflives – Empty Rooms. Their first album.

  1. Trivium – The Sin & the Sentence. Their 8th studio album

  1. Ed Sheeran – Divide. His 3rd studio album

  1. Royal Blood – How Did We Get so Dark? Their 2nd studio album

  1. Queens of the Stone Age – Villains. Their 7th studio album

  1. Big Wreck – Grace Street. Their 5th studio album.

  1. Foo Fighters – Concrete & Gold. Their 9th studio album.  Once I got past the over production on the album, I REALLY enjoy this album

  1. Paramore – After Laughter. Paramore’s 5th album

  1. Nothing but Thieves – Broken Machine. This was their second release & much like the first release, it’s my favourite album of the year.

HONORABLE MENTIONS

Stone Sour – Hydrograd.  I’m just hooked on their 2nd, 3rd, & 4th album.  This is album number 6 for them.

Alter Bridge – B-Sides & Rarities w/ a double album Live at the 02 Arena

In Flames – Down, Wicked, & No Good 4 song EP of cover songs

Yes, Chris Izsak’s hit from the ‘90s

Ascot Royals – New Skin EP.  They opened for Big Wreck in February

The Watchmen – Live & in Stereo.  21 live songs from a show in Winnipeg (their home town) at The Burton Comings Theater.

Pentatonix – 4 EP.  They’re 7 cover songs on the EP done by the A Capella group.

It also has a cover of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” but it’s just OK.

Barenaked Ladies – Fake Nudes.  An album released November 17th that will likely grow on me.

Alice Cooper – Paranormal.  Good album that was just missing something for me?  I can see this growing on me too

ALBUMS I BOUGHT BUT WASN’T HOOKED ON THEM OR I JUST HAVEN’T LISTENED TO ENOUGH

Linkin Park – One More Light

Muse – Dig Down Single

Jack Johnson – All the Light Above it Too

Prophets of Rage – Self-titled.  A bit too much on the rap side for me, but not bad.

I have a short list of albums to purchase from 2017.

Pink – Beautiful Trauma

U2 – Songs of Experience

Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds – Who Built the Moon?

The Devin Townsend Project – Transcendence

I’ve already checked out a few that aren’t listed here & didn’t make the cut.

7 albums to be released in 2018 I’ll check purchase from iTunes if I like them.

Myles Kennedy – Year of the Tiger

A Perfect Circle – TBA

Corrosion of Conformity – No Cross No Crown

Fall Out Boy – MANIA

Halestorm – TBA

Dream Theater – Into the Great Divide

Tremonti – TBA

Merry Christmas!

Happy Holidays!

Enjoy some time off of work!

I fell asleep to “Stitched Up Heart” the album “Never Alone”

I exercised to “Candlebox” the album “Love Stories & Other Musings”

FRIDAY DECEMBER 22 WILL BE THE FINAL BLOG FOR THE YEAR!!!!!!!

OK, I get to sit here & fill you in on stuff I like, movies, TV shows, & music.  That’s great & all.  I do encourage you to check out stuff I recommend.  I also encourage you to find your own things & share it as a comment.  I’m aware that not everyone will like the same things, don’t be shy, “tell us about it”, and make us aware of something the rest of us are missing out on!  I would love for this to be much more interactive!  You don’t need to have survived brain cancer to have an opinion about something.

I hate exercising as much as the next person, until about 5 – 10 minutes after I’m done with it.  I figure “Ah, get it over with ASAP”.

I look up reviews on movies, music, & TV shows as much or more than the next person does or would like to.  “In the end” it’s quite subjective, check it out & see if it’s to your liking.

I always encourage you to make up YOUR OWN mind about everything!  Here’s an example, so many people love the Marvel Comic book movies.  Guess what?  I prefer the DC movies more than the Marvel movies.  Some people don’t like comic book movies.  It’s AOK with me.  Some people prefer to not watch movies or TV.  I’m OK with that too!  I don’t understand it, but I acknowledge that.

That’s the reason my music reviews are more like “Hey check this out.  See if you like it.”  Friday is my top 10 albums of the year & some stuff I haven’t gotten a chance to purchase yet.  That’s the only time I’ll rate an album.

We finished season/part 4 of “The Ranch” on Sunday.  Yes, we were binge watching it.  10 episodes each a ½ hour long.  Released on Friday.

I was going to purchase the “Depeche Mode” Greatest Hits album among other Greatest Hits albums.  I found out I’m not a big fan of the artist or groups, just a song here & there.  “In Flames” just released a 4 song EP of cover songs.  That’s what got me on this 1980, 1990, & early 2000s train.  Here are the 3 Depeche Mode songs I plan on purchasing 2 of the 3 songs have been covered.

Here are the 2 performances by Foo Fighters on SNL this past weekend.

Friday ended with a Saskatchewan Roughrider WIN in Regina against the Montreal Alouettes.  Riders W37-12L Alouettes!

Kim’s parents came down on Saturday.  Kim’s doing more baking to raise cash for her boxing charity, figured she could use the help of her mother & sister.  There was “…a whole lot of baking to do….”  I slept in & Kim started baking Friday night while I was at the football game.  She woke up & continued baking long before I got out of bed at 11:00 am.

Sunday was more baking in the morning.  Finished the baking and now it’s time to get ready for the week.

How is Trump still president?  Some of these people have already been fired.  I don’t care how many people have been affected, 1 is too many.

ALICE COOPER

I’ll come clean right now.  I own only 3 studio albums & a greatest hits album of Alice Cooper.  Funny fact about the shock rocker, he plays a lot of golf!  Kim & I saw him live once in October of 2004 in Regina at the Conexus Arts Center. We’ll go with what I own in order of release.

“From the Inside” 1978.  He was in an insane asylum when this album was written.  You could easily call this his album of ballads.

“Trash” released in 1989

“Greatest Hits”

Now the recently released album “Paranormal”

If you stream or purchase this album the end of it is 5 live songs, all on his greatest hits album.  I’m a casual fan of Alice Cooper.  Each time I listen to an album of his, I want to hear more.

I fell asleep to “Kelly Clarkson” here new album “Meaning of Life”, followed by “Queens of the Stone Age” the album “Villains”, & finally “Royal Blood” the album “How did We Get so Dark?”

I exercised to “Foo Fighters” 60 B-Sides on shuffle.

Sorry this is a little bit later than usual.  Got up early, exercised, had breakfast, showered & had a funeral to attend.  Rachel’s grandfather passed away (Mitch’s girlfriend).

400 crunches, 400 pushups, 400 leg lifts, 160 back flexes, 80 triceps pushups.

I woke up late on Thursday, & decided I really didn’t feel like exercising.  I woke up & then just stayed in bed for too long, keeping warm under the blankets.  Which means, I’ll be very busy today.  So there are the numbers for the week.

Those numbers are underwhelming for me.  I always expect more from myself.  I’m “my own worst enemy”.

LANGUAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’ve never done that before except once when I was in the Wascana Rehabilitation Center.  Kim forced me to go to occupational therapy.  I had little to no desire to do anything that day.  I got to the therapy room & just said “No” to the questions as to what I wanted to do that day.  My physical therapist came out & fired some suggestions to me.  After far too long she asked if I’d go for a walk with my walker.  I went for a very short walk.  Instead of a 45 minute therapy session, I had a 10 minute session.  The very next day I immediately apologized to them both.  I didn’t raise my voice or swear at either of them, I apologized for being so incredibly stubborn.

THAT’S ALL FOR THE CANCER TALK FOR NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hmmm?  A bass player from Marilyn Manson’s band accused of rape.  Who saw that coming?  I believe, don’t quote me on this, Marilyn Manson was accused of sexual misconduct years ago during a show.  No, I don’t listen to him.

I don’t care what a singer looks like!  I’m only going to see them in the odd video or in concert if it’s near me!  Do they sound good?  That’s all I really care about.

Kelly Clarkson has released her album today.  The 2nd season of “Stranger Things” hits Netflix today as well.

LINKIN PARK

The latest release from Linkin Park is a total 180 from their earlier albums.  It got a lot of backlash from people saying it’s terrible.  I don’t think it’s terrible but it’s VERY different from previous releases, so much that I don’t consider it a Linkin Park album.  Here’s some popular/previous songs!

Now a few songs from their latest release “One More Light”

I fell asleep to “Nothing but Thieves” the album “Broken Machine”

I exercised to “Foo Fighters” the album “Concrete & Gold”

Emptied the dishwasher to “Dire Straits” the album “Brothers in Arms”

Kim calls me the human iPod.  My father & my brother are much the same.  When I was in the WRC & had exercise therapy, the radio was always on.  Somebody would ask our therapist “Who is this on the radio?”  Our therapist would ask me.  I’d respond with “Oh, that’s so & so.”  Once the message was delivered, I’d wait for 10 seconds & here the person’s reply to me.  “You weren’t even born yet!  How do you know that?”  I’ve got far too much useless trivia in my head!

Kim’s birthday on October 22nd 2002 (the year we started dating).  The Foo Fighters album “One by One” was released.  I bought 2 copies, 1 for me & 1 for Kim.  I also bought her a media stand to hold her CDs & electronics.

Kim’s much more involved with the fact that I’m alive at the moment.  From the instant of Tuesday, February 5th 2008, she was with me 24/7 until I was discharged on Thursday, July 26th 2012.  When she leaves for work in the morning, Brewster & I both miss her A LOT!

It’s 6 years from my leaving WRC & I miss her SO much each day.  Brewster starts to whine at me & the front door at 5:30 pm as if he’s saying “Is she coming back?”  When she gets home, all 11 pounds of Brewster nearly knocks her over!

I’m INCREDIBLY lucky to have her as my wife, she has incredible emotional strength & will power.  Guess what she told my parents on Tuesday, February 5th, 2008?  “He’s not going to die”.

THAT’S ALL FOR WHAT’S ON MY MIND & CANCER TALK!  HERE COMES THE POPCULTURE STUFF!

No summer vacation for us.  Kim’s work is rather shorthanded this month.

Friday ended with me having a beer & a covfefe while watching “Prime Time Sports with Bob McCown” followed by a trip to “The Queen City Ex” aka the carnival aka “Buffalo Days” to see “I Mother Earth” & “The Watchmen” in concert for a WHOPPING $12!  AWESOME!

We can look at this a few different ways.  A) I saw two of my BIG name bands from the ‘90s last year in 2 separate concerts at the casino.  B) I just saw them together Friday night at the travelling carnival.  C) Since 1999 I’ve been able to see them live while drinking a beer & paying less to see them.

The Watchmen are a fairly successful Canadian rock band, & incredible live.  The albums are great & then you see them live & they blow your mind they’re so good!

I Mother Earth is well taken among hard rock fans, but not for everyone.  I know Kim didn’t want to be there, but she stuck around, she could have left, I could have gotten a ride home with Mitch.

I guess Edwin’s back & Bryan’s out doing his solo country thing or is a concert promoter now.  Unfortunately Edwin & Bryan sound nothing alike.  We likely will never hear anything from the last 2 albums live (Edwin recorded just the first 2 albums).

The Watchmen played first from 7:00 pm – 8:20 pm or so finishing with their big hit………………

I Mother Earth played just as long & radio edit versions were not involved at all.  I think when they made the set list they may have been thinking something like this “They want this 7 minute song to be 5 minutes?  Too bad we’re making it 7:30 minutes long!”

I typically don’t like bands that improvise/”jam” on stage, if I’d have to choose one band that does it, I’d pick I Mother Earth in a heartbeat.

All we heard from I Mother Earth was about 5 songs from the first album and I’m guessing 7 songs from the second album.  Yes, we saw some slap guitar!  Not slap bass, but slap guitar in a solo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Who else does that?

This solo below has slap guitar in it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Drummer, bassist, guitar, vocals, & 2 additional percussionists FANTASTIC!

I had somewhat of a high school crush Friday night watching these bands.  I discovered The Watchmen at home from sick one day on Much Music, Canada’s MTV.  1994 I saw this video on MM……………

1996 rolled around & this video and song was everywhere……………..

If it costs me $6 per ‘90s Canadian rock band now, there are a few more I’d love to see doing a reunion tour, that will likely never happen or they’re still together!

  1. A) Finger Eleven still together. They haven’t stopped since they changed their name from “Rainbow Butt Monkeys” & recorded the album “Tip” in 1998
  1. B) Matthew Good Band almost a guarantee to NOT get back together
  1. C) Wide Mouth Mason, maybe?
  1. D) Our Lady Peace together & opening for Guns n’ Roses, I don’t know if Our Lady Peace ever really stopped, much like Econoline Crush? Both just seemed to fade away from the spotlight? I’m not a Guns n’ Roses fan, I won’t be there.  I did just see Our Lady Peace open for Bryan Adams though.  They’re together & they’re good, as long as they keep the bulk of their shows on songs from their first 4 albums, which they did when I saw them!  Our Lady Peace last released an album in 2012 & Econoline Crush is recording with a new contract & label.  Currently there are 5 of their albums on iTunes, the most recent from 2010, a greatest hits album.

There could be many more added to that list of ‘90s rock bands, but that list would make me EXTREMELY happy!  Big Wreck has been back since 2011 & have released 3 albums & a 7 song EP of live songs & a cover.

The coolest thing about Friday night was that I was wearing a metal band T-Shirt, Lamb of God, & was complimented on it twice!  Once waiting for the show to start & some guy flashed me the metal horns on our way to our vehicle after the show.

I’ve had this experience before wearing one of my Into Eternity shirts in Boston & Edmonton.  Into Eternity is a local metal band that has done quite well as far as underground metal goes, check iTunes or your local music store, you’ll see 4 albums & 2 singles.  The first album is difficult to find.

Saturday evening we were babysitting for our friends.  Kim took Hannah to the “Emoji Movie”.  I stayed home with Brewster & the Roughriders game & the Blue Jays game.

Sunday Kim & Hannah had breakfast before I was even awake from sleeping on the couch.  I’m not sure where Brewster ended up sleeping?  He tends to roam when Hannah’s here.  He’s not sure how he’ supposed to act around young kids, he tends to get scared & find a quiet spot or curl up on my lap.  He does this also if there’s more than 3 or 4 people around as well.  Poor guy’s getting old, he’ll be 12 years old on January 31st, 2018.  We got him from a breeder down the street from us in April of 2006.

We finished Sunday with an early birthday BBQ for Corey at their place & a pile of Corey & Jolene’s friends.  I’d call it an annual event (well, the last 4 years as far as I know).  Corey smokes a brisket, we all eat & drink!

While at Corey & Jolene’s place I had a VERY odd sense of anxiety.  I don’t know what caused it, it certainly wasn’t anyone’s fault.  It was all in my head!  I didn’t freak out or anything, I just clamed up & felt out of place?  I couldn’t tell you why, I just felt awkward among people that I have no reason to?  Weird feeling, never happened to me before?  Again, nobody’s fault, it was all in my head.

Monday will be a lazy day for us, get ready for the week, watch whatever is half decent on TV or Netflix, lay low & prepare for Tuesday.  Yes, Saskatchewan, Canada has the most days off than any other province I think it is?

IF YOU’RE HERE FOR THE UPDATE, THAT’S ALL THAT I HAVE FOR YOU TODAY.

I’m a big fan of Lamb of God, In Flames, Trivium, & many more metal bands!  Trivium has made 2 albums that are terrible to me though.  I have issues with “The Crusade” & “Shogun”.  I do like the song ‘The Crusade’, as for “Shogun” they seem to get stuck on a riff & repeat it many times.  Quite a few fans call “Shogun” their favourite album.  I don’t get it, but to each their own!  I got into them on the 2nd album “Ascendancy” released in 2005.  I own most of the CDs, until the last 2 which I bought on iTunes.  Anyways, here’s a review/reaction to the new single & the instrumental ‘The Crusade’.

Pearl Jam shared it, & it’s the first song on my favourite Pearl Jam album!  Listened to this album every day on the way to my summer job in 1998!

FYI – The Paranormal album from Alice Cooper is REALLY good!

So many conspiracy theories flying around the death of Chris Cornell & Chester Bennington.  Leave it alone & let them R.I.P.

Yep, it’s a marathon, not a sprint at a Foo Fighters show!  They tell you as they begin a show.

How do the Blue Jays lose 16-7 on Friday in Houston, then play the same team the next day & win 4-3 in an extra inning.  Then go into the 9th inning ahead 6-3 and lose the game in the 9th inning 7-6?  Best team in baseball (Houston Astros) vs. the 2nd worst team (Toronto Blue Jays).  If you’re a casual Blue Jay fan, you may not want to watch a game for a year or two, this could get horrific!?

The fact that Pauly Shore is still around is incredible.  I love the Movie “Son-in-Law”
