Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

I fell asleep to “Metallica” the album “Master of Puppets”

So far this year I’m 4/5 out of the albums purchased!  “Corrosion of Conformity” was very forgettable, very fast.  Somethings still a bit wonky with iTunes, so no more preorders from me.  See if that finally fixes things?

Thursday evening I watched the Toronto Blue Jays home/season opener with another Chris.  The other Chris & Trevor couldn’t make it.  Good thing after watching the Blue Jays pickup right where they left off last year with a 6-1 losing effort.

$20,000,000 short-stop will be on the 60 day disabled list, he hasn’t played since July 7th.  Also the $23,000,000 third baseman can’t throw to first base.  He can hit, I don’t see him playing 3B until sometime next week.  Time to see all of that depth they acquired in the offseason!

Slept in on Friday, Kim was up early to pick up Hannah & go shopping with her.  I was folding laundry when they came home the 3 of us had a picnic inside.  Yogurt, apple slices, Panini split 3 ways, a 1/6 of a cookie each, & a little candy that Hannah brought for us all.  Hannah says we can save the other half of the cookie later.

Saturday was a busy day for us.  Lunch with Corey, Jolene, Hannah, & extended family from out of town.  HUGE Easter meal, ham, potato salad, 2 broccoli salads, perogies, cabbage rolls, peas, bread, cookies, & 2 pies, apple & cherry.

We were home by 5:50 or so.  Mitch & Rachel came by for BBQ steak, broccoli salad, & garlic bread.  Sat around & visited for a while.  Kim went to bed & I stayed up to watch the Blue Jays win in grand fashion.

3 stolen bases by 1 player in the 8th inning to make it 5 – 3 for the Jays.  That hasn’t happened since 1947 or 1941, I can’t remember what they said.  Nobody has stolen home plate for the Blue Jays since 2007.

I watched it late Saturday night, Kim & Brewster were in bed.  I was so happy & couldn’t make a sound.  The Blue Jays won the game 5 – 3.  That made their record 1W – 2L.  New York has 5 very capable homerun hitters.  6’7” Aaron Judge hit 52 HR while winning rookie of the year, Stanton was in Miami & hit 59 HR.  Then there’s Sanchez, Gregorious, & currently injured 1B Jeff Bird who all 3 collectively likely made another 110 HR.  They’re just scary to watch.

This is how they won the 4th game.

After 4 games (12 hours) of baseball against the N.Y. Yankees, the Toronto Blue Jays are 2W – 2L.  That’s all I expected of them.  Better than last year but they won’t make it to the World Series.  All of that being said 4 games is a very small sample for a 162 game season.  Last year they got off to a 2W-12L start.

Kim & I watched “Star Wars: Episode 8 The Last Jedi” on blu-ray Sunday night.  I’m glad I saw it in the theater!  Our blu-ray was skipping, freezing & the audio dropped out a bit during the last 15 minutes of the movie.  We’ll exchange it pretty quick.  I just took it out of the package to watch it last night.  I’m the one that will watch a movie more than a few times.  I’m pretty sure I watched “Deadpool” at least 15 times or so?

GRETA VAN FLEET & LED ZEPPELIN

I slowly got into Led Zeppelin in 1998 & 1999.  I had a 3 disc box set only at the time.  When Corey started SIAST (Saskatchewan Institute of Arts & Science Technology) in December of 2001(?) he was really big on Led Zeppelin then.  I started buying their CDs.  I only have a few, but most of them came from Corey’s CDs.  I learned some simple songs on guitar, but there aren’t many easy songs to play.

What does “Greta Van Fleet” have to do with this?  Close your eyes & just listen, you’d swear it is Led Zeppelin.  They’re quite young actually ranging from 18-21 years of age.

Here some of my favourite Led Zeppelin songs followed by 2 or 3 Greta Van Fleet songs…

Here are 3 songs from Greta Van Fleet’s 2nd, 8 song album “From the Fires”.

I can’t blame the singer for sounding like a carbon copy of Robert Plant.  The bassist & drummer aren’t anywhere near the talent of John Paul Jones & John Bonham.  The guitarist I’d say is trying to sound like the 2nd coming of Jimmy Page.  They’re good at what they do, but Led Zeppelin did this first.

I don’t blame him at all.  Jonny Depp states that actors should not become musicians.  Then you see all of this news that he’s now playing guitar in “Hollywood Vampires” with Joe Perry of Aerosmith.  I was all like “WHAAAAA…..?”

I fell asleep to “Queens of the Stone Age” the album “Songs for the Deaf” followed by the album “Villains”

I exercised to “Kyuss” the album “Blues for the Red Sun”.  I’ll tell you a bit about Kyuss later on below.

400 crunches, 400 leg lifts, 400 pushups, 160 back flexes, & 20 minutes of planking.

I’m not a fan of talking about cancer, simply because I don’t want to be known as “That guy who had cancer”.  There is far more to me than just a cancer survivor.  Problem is, I could have the effects of cancer for the rest of my life.  My iPatch and a wheelchair.  I’m over that stuff, if people stare, I can’t stop them.  If someone has a question, I’ll answer as best I can.  It may never go away, & people may reference me as “That guy in the wheelchair with the iPatch”.  Oh, well………..I’m not about to throw in the towel & give up/call it a day.  Look at it this way, at least I’m well enough to try & change things.

When you turned/turn 28 did/do you just assume you’ll get stage 4 brain cancer?  I didn’t, but 6 days after my 28th birthday I did.  Best I can say is live your life to the fullest & enjoy as much of it as you can!  Don’t worry about what others think, & don’t be the person that has everyone looking over their shoulder praying they don’t see you.  Have fun & help others have fun too.

THAT’S ALL FOR THE CANCER TALK FOR NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Coming September 15th

Kyuss are a desert American underground metal band.  Josh Homme, singer & guitar player for Queens of the Stone Age played guitar in Kyuss & former Queens of the Stone Age bass player Nick Oliveri was in Kyuss too.  Do you remember the song “Outside” from Foo Fighters’ “Sonic Highways” album?  That song is based on Kyuss who played outside in the desert because they were too loud for their neighbors.

Has “Trivium” finally found a permanent drummer while recording their 7th release?

Come on Trivium haters, they’re not about to release Ascendancy again!  Why would they?  They already made Ascendancy & released it in 2005.

I like some metal & know others that listen to far more metal than me.  There are NO Nazis in sight. Going to a metal or rock show actually calms me.  I’m in a group of people that are always willing to help someone out when needed.  That’s a large group where I feel safest.  I broke my nose at a festival in 1999, my nose was pouring blood.  Everyone cleared a path for me to a security person who sent me to the First Aid tent.

This makes it 3/11 recorded songs from Foo Fighters’ album “Concrete & Gold” album out September 15th

WOW!  Dave Grohl reveals secret HUGE pop star on “Concrete & Gold”

So the new Foo Fighters album will have Paul McCartney on drums for one song, Justin Timberlake, & on the album closer 30 vocal tracks by Shawn Stockman (Boys to Men) to give the effect of a choir.

I fell asleep to “Trivium” the album “In Waves”

I exercised to “Paramore” the first album “All We Know is Falling”

4 days of exercise remember.  Planking, 120 pushups, 200 leg lifts & 40 back flexes over 4 days

Planking, 50 leg lifts, 30 pushups, & 10 back flexes every day.  I get up when Kim wakes me up & leaves for work.  I put on my exercise clothes, exercise, have breakfast (Hardboiled egg, 2 Rice Cakes, Fruit juice I’ve made for the week in our Vitamix, black coffee, & a water bottle with me all day).  Then I clean myself up for the day & put on respectful/appropriate clothing for the day, yes, shorts are appropriate for winter!

This seems like a very small amount of exercise to me.  I’ll ad some yoga to this next week &/or ad some pushups.  I’m just not satisfied with my exercise routine at the moment, I want more!  I expect more from myself.  There’s always somebody doing better at anything.

Is this how you survive surviving cancer?  I’m making it up as I go.  I’m able to help out around the house more, that’s a good thing!  I have to get Kim to show me how to use our stove from the future again.  Buttons on a black surface?  It might as well be in a different language?

When I was in the WRC they had me in music therapy.  I wrote lyrics for a song that I was supposed to play guitar on, possibly do the entire song with supervision of my music therapist.  To this day, I can’t flash between any type of guitar chords.  Might take me a while, yes it is frustrating.  My brain knows what to do, my left hand strongly disagrees.

I was in a severe depression at the time.  Just balling 10-20 times a day.  I started crying during one of my music therapy sessions.  My therapist asked if she should give Kim & I a minute.  I told her “no”.  I didn’t need to hide it.  She asked what I did to get over one of those moments.  I simply said “I hug my wife & it goes away”

If you’re here strictly for the cancer news, that’s all I have for you today.

I’m so sick of hearing about another terrorist attack & more senseless acts of violence.  Don’t ask me why, but when I heard about the bombing in Manchester, I got very angry inside.  It’s just so stupid!  Here’s U2 on Jimmy Kimmel with their take on the situation.

http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/u2-on-manchester-attack-terrorists-hate-everything-we-love-w483946

I bought the Linkin Park album last Friday.  It’s not your regular Linkin Park album.  I don’t hear it as an album full of singles though.  It’s 10 songs that need to be heard 1 through 10.  Very mellow album.  The 2nd track is pretty much a straight up rap song, the majority of the album is Chester Bennington singing over delicate tracks.  If you’re looking for the typical Linkin Park album with him screaming the lyrics at you, you won’t find it here.

If you think for one second that any band or musician is creating music for the fans, sorry but you’re dead wrong.  If you’re not happy at your job would you do it?  I highly doubt it.  A band or musician will create the music they want to.  If you like it great!  If you don’t, get over it & move on.

Paramore’s performance on James Corden!

I had to share this with you since I forgot how much I like it.  My exercise music Thursday morning.  “Kyuss” the album “Blues for the Red Sun”.  This is the band bass player Nick Oliveri, & guitarist/singer Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age started!  Foo Fighters’ song “Outside” is based on Kyuss having to play outside in the middle of the desert since they refused to turn their instruments down.

These songs, ‘Outside’ & ‘No One Knows’ might not exist without Kyuss?

I don’t think most concert goers even care about extra security, security workers are seen but don’t usually factor in to the overall experience unless you’re doing something wrong.  The only interaction I’ve experienced with any security is a pat down & “Please take your cell phone back to your vehicle if it can take photos or videos”.  Yes, I had a flip phone in 2007.

Behind the cameras recording the Muse video

At the moment “In Flames” & “Linkin Park” are under fire from fans about not being as heavy a previous albums.  Would you like Metallica if they just made the “Black” album & “Master of Puppets” forever?  Linkin Park already made “Hybrid Theory” & In Flames already made “The Jester Race”.  Look at those albums & say “Been there, done that”!  There’s no need to lash out to them on social media!  They’re making music they want to make, if you don’t like it, move on.  No the albums aren’t as heavy as past efforts.  They’re still good albums to other fans though.

Yay, System of a Down!!!!!!!!  15 songs written AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If there’s still the possibility of System of a Down, Queens of the Stone Age, & A Perfect Circle releasing new music, this could be a FANTASTIC year in rock & metal music!

In Flames shared it…….

I don’t think or know of any metal fans that have had this problem but people just assume you’re rude, atheist, music snob, drug users, etc.  The metal fans I know are cool, nice & unassuming.  I like metal but it certainly isn’t the only type of music I listen to.

I fell asleep to “Trivium” the album “Silence in the Snow”

I exercised first to “Queens of the Stone Age” the album “Rated-R” then “Kyuss” the album “Blues for the Red Sun”

You’ve probably never heard of “Kyuss” unless you’re a huge fan of “Queens of the Stone Age” or “Foo Fighters”. “Kyuss? Was Josh Homme’s group before he started “Queens….”. If you watched the ‘Sonic Highways’ mini series Foo Fighters have a song called “Outside”. “Kyuss” practiced in the middle of the desert out side of L.A. because they were too loud to rehearse in a house, to close to neighbours.

I use both. I don’t understand or care to understand how anybody can be just on facebook? Why do you need an email for an email with limitations? Not everybody’s on facebook? Very few people send a private message on facebook. Yes, social media has it’s place. Most of the info on this blog is from facebook, that being said I could likely get all of this info by subscribing to 30+ newsletters. I assume the only problem with that is that they would all come at the end of the day, then you’d be getting yesterdays music/pop culture news. I guess all I’m trying to say is email vs. facebook isn’t a contest, they both have pros & cons.

I’M TIRED

I slept in until 9:30. That never happens except on the odd Saturday. I did one brief exercise. I’ll make a juice & watch a movie or TV. My shoulders are tender from sleeping on my sides “back & forth” all night. Sorry but I’m calling it in today. Catch you tomorrow. For anyone there was a blog last Wednesday & another on Friday. My site had some issues?

I fell asleep to “Symphony X” I’m not sure which album some I downloaded prior to having cancer. When I bought the new “Dream Theater”, “Symphony X” was suggested as a similar artist, so I gave it a shot since I knew I had a few albums. Good stuff progressive metal with a symphony. For me, a symphony lifts an album to a higher standard. I even bought the Metallica album with the symphony!

100 metal facts.

http://loudwire.com/100-metal-facts/

Metal fans aren’t bad people because of the aggressive music we enjoy. Kim listens to country, I don’t like it. When I get in the car, we quietly listen to something we both like or turn off the radio. She doesn’t like hard rock or metal, so I do the same as her. I don’t hear much country music & she doesn’t hear metal music.

Worst to first “Foo Fighters” album. It’s subjective, maybe you don’t even like “Foo Fighters”? Fine with me. There’s about 3 albums that are more miss than hit for me.

Songs I like. “Lamb of God” Skipped 4 bands I don’t listen to much including “Lacuna Coil” from Italy who are pretty good. Metal with a female singer, she sings & doesn’t do death vocals. LANGUAGE & METAL!!!!

From the album to be released later this month!
