Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

Quiet Mother’s Day.  Over to my parents’ house for BBQ chicken & ribs, avocado salad & potato salad.  Followed by 2 tasty cakes.  Yes, I tried both cakes to make sure they were up to standard for everyone else……You’re welcome, I aim to please!

Lots of people there for supper.  Mom, dad, Kent, Leanne, my cousins Megan Gagnon, Danielle Gagnon, Grandma, Grandpa, aunt Leanne’s parents, Clint & Dorothy White, Mitch, Rachel was at a wedding shower, Kim & I.  I feel as though I’m missing someone?  Sorry, lots of people & 2 dogs, Mac & Goose, Brewster stayed with Sherry & James.

Yes, I have converted my dad into a “Big Wreck”, “Foo Fighters”, & “Royal Blood” fan & now a “Queens of the Stone Age” fan.  I saw “Royal Blood” open for “Foo Fighters” with my father in 2015.  I’ve never seen “Queens of the Stone Age” before this though.  A very quick trip to Calgary to see the show.  Drive on Wednesday, get there in time for supper.  Concert was on Thursday night.  Drove back to Regina on Friday & got here at about 6:00 pm.  A big thank you to my Aunt & Uncle Kent & Leanne Fraser for letting dad & I stay at their house!  Kent is my dad’s younger brother

When we saw Foo Fighters in 2015 my uncle said to me, “So you’ll only come to Calgary if Foo Fighters are in town?”  I should have said this time “Nope, we’ll come for Queens of the Stone Age too!”  In actuality Kim & I might go there for a bit of vacation time during the summer in the next few years.

This is just to show that a guy in a wheelchair can get out & still live a relatively ‘normal’ life with the help of family & friends!  My legs work a bit, so I’ll need help if I’m somewhere new.  By the 2nd day I figured out how to stand at the washroom counter on the main floor & the second floor to brush my teeth & wash my face.  Dad had to help me get to the toilet, not really a big deal?

The concert was FANTASTIC!  Royal Blood now has 2 ten song albums out & Queens of the Stone Age have 7 albums out.  The most recent album was produced by Mark Ronson who released 1 album with guest vocalist including “Uptown Funk” with “Bruno Mars”, I was curious at first just to hear what would come out of the 2 working together and the album was really good, live was even better.  Royal Blood opened…

Queens of the Stone Age were the headliner.  I’m not sure how long Royal Blood played for but they started right at 8:00 pm, which was nice, & Queens of the Stone Age finished right at 11:00 pm.  Short show, but well worth the trip….

I remember more songs they played but that’s quite a few already!  Nice needed break!

Yes, I consider myself a Metallica fan now, a friend of mine is a HUGE fan & lent me the CDs.  I have the studio albums & the live album with the symphony.  I had a few on CD as well.  I totally agree with the musicians having a strong dislike for Napster & now all of these streaming sites.  I personally hate them.  I use iTunes, if I had the physical space I’d start a vinyl collection!  Unless you’re buying a TON of merchandise, alcohol, clothing, or a fragrance released by your favourite artists, that’s the only way they’re able to continue doing what they’re do!  They’re not making money from album sales anymore!  Swedish metal groups Opeth & In Flames have their own brand of beer from Opeth & Gin from In Flames.

I used Napster, I downloaded Torrent files for free also.  While I was sick, we’d go to a music store & I’d pick out CDs, 2 a month when I was able to go home for a few hours at night.  I’d ask Kim to purchase the 2 CDs.  “Do you have this already?” she’d ask.  I usually said “Yes, the Torrent file”.  I carried on this way until CDs dropped in price.  Then I started to use iTunes.  I figured, “I was working for a paycheck, why not musicians?”  You’re entitled to get your music however you like.  Maybe it’s different than what I choose to do?  That’s fine with me, I use iTunes & Kim uses Apple Music.  Whatever floats your boat, I use Apple Music to preview an album before I buy it on iTunes.

“Trivium” needs to come back to Saskatoon, as well as “In Flames”.  Not only to play a show there but my “Trivium” & “In Flames” shirts both have a hole in the right armpit.  Now designated as exercise shirts.

Trailer for the movie “Bohemian Rhapsody” AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!  I heard it was in the works & that Sacha Baron Cohen “Borat” was fired when they got into the production, finally it’s here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mark Tremonti likes “The Cars”?  AWESOME!

I agree.  The Blue Jays are paying $20,000,000 a year for injured short stop, Troy Tulowitzki.  He was good for 2.5 months at the end of 2015 and currently hasn’t played since July of 2017.  His fielding is great, his hitting is more than questionable.  At least it’s not my money!  There’s about 6 rookie short stops waiting in the minor leagues, Tulowitzki has created a road block for.  The Blue Jays got him in the last week of July 2015.  He was good right up to mid-October, & hasn’t been the same since.

A Million Miles Away Blog on facebook.

Give the site a moment to load all of the links. It takes a bit for my computer & it crashes on Kim’s cell.

I don’t own a mobile device since I’m always with someone when I’m away from home. Anyone I’m out with has a cell or tablet/iPad, I don’t need one.

Two things you should know. I needed a break from my computer & on Wednesday morning we drove to Calgary for this fantastic concert.

Now my dad has seen Foo Fighters 3 times since 2008, & I’ve seen them 4 times since 2000. 2000 in Saskatoon at a 1 day outdoor festival, 2003 at a hall in Edmonton, 2011 & 2015 in Calgary. I’ll just say the concert was AWESOME! Royal Blood opened, played from 7-8, played a bit of a riff from Black Sabbath & most of their album. Foo Fighters played from 8:30-11:00, with no encore, a Rolling Stones song & “Under Pressure” by Queen & David Bowie, both covers were pretty much spot on. They also played an album track that a casual fan might not have recognized? Also 3 songs from the new album “Sonic Highways”

I can’t remember the Black Sabbath riff Royal Blood played?

Royal Blood was really good too though! Bass player/singer & a drummer! REALLY GOOD!

The 4 of us, Mom, Dad, Kim & I stayed with my aunt & uncle, Kent & Leanne. We also visited my aunt & uncle in Aidrie, Joan & Terrance with my cousins Ryan & Kyla. Quick trip, drove all day Wednesday & Sunday, concert was Thursday evening. I think I gained 20lbs with visiting 2 brewerys, eating bread, cheese & scones, along with my aunt Joan’s perogys. We did sneak in a visit with Rydell & Candice which was really good. Candice is pregnant & was due on the 11th. She’s still pregnant though, waiting anxiously to get that baby out. She is & always has been PHAT! No “F” though, I can’t say DOPE since she has never smoked marijuana.

Good but fast trip to Calgary! Big thanks to Kent & Leanne for letting us stay with them & keeping us well fed & drunk………………..uh………………….hydrated?

Fun trip, only problem was Kim & I would wake up & pretty much not see each other until supper time. She would go out with my aunt & mother, while I went out with my uncle & father. My dad is the oldest of 3 children, Uncle Kent is the middle child & my Aunt Joan in Airdrie is the youngest of 3.

I listened to my iPod all the way to Calgary & back. Kim wanted to listen to an audiobook, I would’ve fallen asleep likely.

Fall Out Boy play “Uma Thurman” acoustic

Soundgarden was on the cover of Spin magazine 5 years ago today!

I’ve heard the name “The Dead Weather”, I’ve never heard their music until now

I’m REALLY enjoying the new Finger Eleven album! It exceeded my expectations!

As well as the new Lamb of God album

I hate pre 1985 Rush, but this is pretty cool. An audience member sings “Tom Sawyer” on stage with Foo Fighters.

Good find Justin Bender!

I slept in today Kim has an EDO today so I figure more time with my wife today! It’s about 11:30am right now & I feel like I’ve wasted the day. Anytime I wake up after 8:45am I feel like I have to rush through the day!

I don’t care about self-tying shoe laces! The hover board is already done, I saw Tony Hawk trying it out a few weeks ago. Where are the flying cars from “Back to the Future II”?

Joe Walsh song I enjoy!

Dream Theater to return to the studio hoping for a release in the late fall.

Who cares? Who else’ life will this affect?

You would think a group like “Korn” would have enough moola to survive on what they’ve made already & not care if people pay for their songs? How much money do they want to spend in their life time?

Yep, all of us “System of a Down” fans are waiting for a new album!

GMOs I just don’t care. At the moment if your food comes from any grocery store, you’re eating GMOs so if you don’t want to consume them try growing stuff in your yard or tell a farmer what seeds to use. Until you do that there’s no need to argue about the pros or cons of GMOs!

“As It Is” reveal new/debut album. Don’t think they’re for me?

Robert Trujillo on the wait for a new Metallica album.

Any Canadian remember Big Sugar? The lead singer left to do a few Grady albums and join Wide Mouth Mason on bass. From what I know, Grady released 4 albums, Big Sugar is back together and he’s (Gordie Johnson) still playing bass with WMM. I only have the first Grady CD. I like Grady and Big Sugar, they’re just not my go to albums. Both are blues based rock bands with some grit, if that makes sense? Here are a few songs from the first Grady album that I own, and should get some more of from iTunes. I think he was playing with 2 musicians in Texas? Honestly, Big Sugar and Grady are the absolute loudest concerts you’ll hear in your lifetime. I’m sure their amps go to 11 and never move, like in the mocumentary “This is Spinal Tap”

CBC report by my cousin David Fraser! Why?

Thanks uncle Kent Fraser! “What is a Farmer?”

Big Wreck album teaser pre-order and release date in Canada and America at the end of the teaser.

STEVE JOBS. Yes he did a lot of great things and was constantly pushing the envelope. Now nobody has to actually speak with another person. Anything from apple is mostly his invention. I have one 160gb iPod and I use it all of the time. ITunes, I use for most of my music. That bothers me! ITunes ruined the music industry. Musicians who are signed to a label, get $0 or a few pennies for their music. I’m Canadian. We don’t have “Record Store Day” stuff on vinyl was and still is only available at 2 or 3 stores here. I like having the option to get my music in whatever platform I choose! I use iTunes as a cost saving method but I prefer having a product in my hand. Kim and I have begun renting and buying movies from iTunes. Big Wrecks album will be released in May? I’ve got the single from iTunes, but I plan on supporting one of my favourite bands by purchasing the actual CD. Thank you Sean Parker and Steve Jobs you’ve ruined the music industry. Parker invented Napster and Jobs came up with iTunes. I hope everyone likes their cheaper music!

For me, it’s a love/hate thing. I use it but I hate it. The days of million dollar musicians are long gone. No it’s not because of what Gene Simmons says. “Rappers are the new rock stars because they have all of the bling, fancy houses and sexy women. Rock stars have normal houses, don’t wear a bunch of jewelery, and don’t wear fancy clothes!” It’s because A. iTunes B. Not everyone does it for the fame and fortune. Real musicians do it because they have a passion, because they want to do it as a career. Never heard of “Lamb of God”? They’ve sold millions of albums, toured all over the world many times as has “Alter Bridge” but nobody has a hot clue who they are because of iTunes.

I have an iPod, a desktop Microsoft computer, Netflix, plasma TV and hopefully soon an LCD TV, a stereo, etc. That’s more than enough for me! If the day comes that I have to have some type of mobile device. It will stay at home until I’m done whatever it is I’m doing. If it’s a cell phone, very few people will have the number, it will not be used for email or face book and if I ever receive a text, I’ll call you back, remember it’s a cell PHONE! I’ll get the cheapest pile of crap cell phone possible and the cheapest piece of junk iPad or tablet available to stay at home. I don’t have a digital camera either. I hate having my picture taken so why would I take photos of other people?

Digital technology or analog technology should always be a choice for the user. I played in rock bands and my effect pedals were all analog pedals not a large digital pedal with 100 different settings on it. Tube amplifiers (analog) sound way better than a solid state amplifier (Digital) I had a cheap solid state, it was the same muddier sounding tone everyday. My brother had a tube amp, more expensive and very inconsistent until it warmed up. I had 5/6 analog guitar pedals and Mitch has a large processor with a ton of different settings on it. A personal choice. I wanted the exact amplifier he had, but we were at different stages in our lives.

Everything should be available and optional in a first world country. How about helping others in third world countries first then the homeless in first world countries, then those of us with a roof and a living space?

Thursday, August 8th

Don’t forget to get your blizzard today, you have to, it’s for the kids.  I’m not letting Kim into the house without my blizzard(s).

Listening to a CD of Chemical Horizon, that I was the lead singer for.  Rare stuff, cover songs recorded live, 8 song acoustic show, 3 songs we had written and played live but I had cancer before I got the opportunity to record the vocals. Shayne did them after Mitch sang them a few times.  I’m not one to blow my own horn, I like it quite a bit, why?  We made it for ourselves, that’s why!  I don’t care if others liked it or not.  It was for us!  Maybe that sounds selfish but it’s the truth.

I got a letter from the cancer center last week or so, for a follow up check up with Dr. Tai at the end of October and she will order a cat-scan for me.

I had many MRIs and radiation treatments.  Both  required me to wear a plastic mask, different masks.  My mask for radiation crushed my nose it was so tight!  “Lye still and don’t move a muscle for the next x number of minutes” I heard that each time I went for a treatment.  MRIs scarred the crap out of me, bigger mask that didn’t bother me, but a much smaller place to be.  My shoulders barely fit and I’m very claustrophobic, not a good combination!

Dave Towers, my “peach” goes after 2 beers as Kent Fraser tells me.  I sound funny after 2 drinks because I’m Scottish.  Imagine what our friend, Gerry Hillier from Labrador sounds like after 2 drinks, heck we can barely understand him before hand?!  WARNING NOT FOR KIDS!!! This what I sound like imagine what Gerry sounds like?

Vote, vote, vote for Ben, I went to high school with him.  You can see some of his act on there too. Good stuff!

Who cares?  Get over it!  Nobody likes everything.  I’m sure we had just as many haters as fans.  Ratings & reviews on iTunes?  REALLY?  The site where you can listen to half a song to see if you like it or not?  What’s a review from someone else going to help with?
