Nice to relax over the weekend.  Life’s not a race but until this weekend I’ve felt like I have to catch up to everyone.  I finally relaxed for a while.  Saturday I just spent far too long playing guitar, most of the day from 1:30pm until I went to bed around midnight.

Weird thing is that I still get anxiety, I think, when my buddy or brother comes over to hang out & play guitar.  I freeze & forget that I know how to play anything out of 20(?) songs.  Like the 4 songs by Led Zeppelin or 9 Foo Fighters songs, etc.  Songs that I play every day or the handful of songs I learned on my 7 string.  I gotta get over that hump already.

As I’ve mentioned, I don’t drink alcohol much.  I had 1 short bottle of beer late Saturday night.  That little amount of sugar & alcohol had me awake at 6:00 am Sunday.  I just laid there until 10:30 am drifting in & out of sleep, I was tired but couldn’t stay asleep.

Sunday was our ‘niece’s’ 7th birthday extravaganza!  Supper was ham, potatoes, beans, carrots, & dill pickles.  Followed by the must have birthday cake & ice cream.  We missed our ‘nephew’s’ birthday because of Covid so he got his gift that day as well.  He turned 2 in the spring.  Our friends are teaching him well.  Just like me, no pants but he made sure I put on my jacket & hood when we left.  Me, always in shorts, him a diaper & shirt.

Kim got a hair appointment in a few weeks for our ‘niece’ to have her hair coloured all the colours of the rainbow.  She was pretty excited about that!

I thought of an expensive but great idea for our friends’ family.  He plays guitar so I thought the 4 of them could build a guitar since you can buy DIY kits with all of the parts.  I figured the kids could colour/stain it.  Our ‘nephew’ loves tools so he could help putting it together, & our friend will be learning how to solder in a few weeks, so she could attach the pickups.  Then I realized that depending on the type of guitar it would cost $200-$350 for the kit, plus stain, shielding paint, & clear coat.  It would be a fun but expensive project.

My brother picked me up to take me to Long & McQuade Monday afternoon.  That’s the store I ordered my guitar through.  They offer a free set up on the guitar within a year of it being purchased with them.  They told me to let it acclimate to our place for 2 weeks before hand.  It was shipped with 10-46 strings I use 10-52 strings, so I wanted to make sure it was done properly since I’ve never had a tremolo bridge on a guitar before.  This should be a one & done thing.  20 minute deal so we just window shopped while it was being done.  This is another reason I don’t have a credit card.  I might have put us in serious debt if I had…….but we’d have a bounty of guitar gear!  I saw a less expensive Gibson Les Paul with a flamed maple green/black top that tempted me.  I love the look & sound of any Les Paul I’ve played!  I had the money but it’s being saved for the PRS S2 McCarty 594 to be ordered in February.

Its home & on its wall hanger now.  It looked a little bare in here when I packed it up Sunday night.  Now it feels perfect, & it was really good before too!  I’ll order the S2 McCarty 594 that reviewers say is way better than a Gibson Les Paul that would set me back an extra $1000.  I’ll get the amplifier hopefully after my birthday in January 2022.  Then I’ll be done shopping for anything over $500 for a long time, if not forever.

I’m still stuck on getting it in a single cut (directly below) or in a PRS double cut?  Everything else is the same on both guitars, the body shape is the only difference.  Feel free to leave a comment or message the Facebook site.  I do already own 2 Les Paul (single cut) body shaped guitars.

That amplifier is the bee’s knees or the cat’s pajama’s if you ask me but everything goes on pause after the guitar order in February, until we find a wheelchair accessible house or if we end up remodeling this place.  I think 3 suites were recently sold in this building recently.  That’s good news!  I thought maybe Covid would detract condo buyers?

Sounds as though the White House has been hit by a wave of the virus.  The President, the first lady, his aide, multiple senators, and Kayleigh McEnany now on Monday.

Donald Trump returns to the White House from the hospital & instantly takes off his mask after tweeting “Don’t let it dominate your life” well it’s better than calling it a hoax……marginally better.  I guess he learned nothing over the weekend?  He’s obviously still contagious & personally, I think he’s breathing very deeply.

Just cleaning up some stuff & learning new songs on guitar.

…& just to drive my brother up the wall I learned most of this.  Drives him nuts!

I found out about a Scottish band, over the weekend, similar to Foo Fighters but not as mainstream appealing, a little more eccentric called “Biffy Clyro”.  They have a wealth of albums.  I started with 4 of them, this song is from an album from 2002.

I decided Monday night to just get to it & relearn this, all of it.  New guitar all set up for me, this called for Foo Fighters!  I wouldn’t be surprised to see a handful of videos before the end of the month?  I just NEED to get over this anxiety garbage!

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer? Ask if you do!

I fell asleep to “Foo Fighters” the album “The Colour and The Shape”
I exercised to “In Fames” the album “I, the Mask”

Well we know our dog Brewster is OK for now. We knew that he has a severe heart murmur & thought it was getting serious since he was coughing so hard that he would gag. Turns out that he has bronchitis. He’s on cough medicine, anti-biotics, & got a steroid shot at the vet Sunday evening. No heart medication for now. The cardiologist looked at his X-rays & his heart isn’t enlarged. His cough was getting pretty bad, sounded like a veteran smoker! I guess he is around 98 in dog years. Thought I’d have to get all parental on my almost 14 year old dog for smoking cigarettes!

When I mix Brewster’s dry food with his wet food, in order for him to gain some weight, we have a routine. “Hello my name is Chef Daddy. Today/This evening I will be preparing you some very stinky dog food. A mixture of your regular smelly dry food with a touch of smelly wet food. Special just for you”. He gets a look in his eyes as if he’s saying “Shut up and put down my bowl already!”

Brewster’s health news was a relief, I was expecting much worse. The house thing will happen when it happens, & just getting over that stuff mentally feels as though SO much weight has been lifted off of my shoulders. Hard to save cash when you live on disability, Canadian pension plan & are still under the poverty line.

Between mixing Brewster’s food, exercise, practicing guitar, keeping the house relatively clean, wrestling with Brewster on occasion, house hunting, & other regular everyday things. I keep myself quite busy during the day, then Kim comes home & we try to relax with some TV. It may not sound like much but remember I’m in a wheelchair which slows me down a bit.

He seems to have extra energy now. I like that he’s up & about, checking things out. He seems to keep track of me around here during the day. He’s more like a puppy than he was when I left my Rehab program in 2012. He wants to wrestle & play now. He used to be content just sleeping in his kennel most of the day.

I’m good, it’s Wednesday that’s about the time of the week that my body get’s stubborn & doesn’t want to exercise, but I “carry on…” as usual.

Drummer, Chris Adler, talks further about his departure from “Lamb of God”.
A country A Capella group. There was a short lived TV show called “The Sing-Off”. All A Capella groups, aka no instruments. Groups from 2 to 10 people. I tried, oh so long ago, in high school to form a barbershop quartet. I struggled terribly with & we called it off after 1 rehearsal of 45 minutes accomplishing a 4 bar song. Everybody singing different parts makes it tough, at least in a 4 part choir you’ve got a section of people for each part & not just one person on each part.

Pentatonix won a season on “The Sing-Off”, Home Free won a different season. Home Free is more country on the 2 albums I have. I hear they change it up live though. Please remember that when you hear a bass noise, that’s one guy, he’s impressive! I’d be watching “The Sing-Off” if it was still on.

Talented group, just too much country for me!

If you’re getting this through Facebook, give it a like or other reaction, or share it. That’s the only way of promoting this site, since I’m not profiting from this in any way.

I fell asleep to “Rush” the album “Counterparts”

I exercised to “Stone Temple Pilots” the album “Core”

I ended up spending most of Sunday on the computer again.  If there are any double files, I give up.

I miss my hobbies.  I loved playing & singing in a rock band, something I always wanted to do after I graduated high school.  I was always a singer by default, since I could carry a tune & I didn’t own a guitar until I was 21.  Practicing my guitar now is not fun for me.  My brain knows what to do, but my left (fret board hand) refuses to listen to me.  So after maybe 10 minutes, I get more than frustrated.  Since there’s no baseball on at the moment, I should really hunker down & get 1 of my guitars & really work on it.

As with most things, I never really practiced guitar or singing.  In my head I’d say “Ah, good enough”.  I did get a bit better with each rehearsal or show.  I never really sat down & focused on singing or playing.  I guess there were a couple times I’d check out a song I liked, learn the meat & potatoes of it in 30 minutes & leave it at that.  I learned these songs pretty well though….

The guitar part sounds much more difficult than it sounds.

This along with the entire 2nd album by Foo Fighters & some of their 1st, 3rd, & 4th album.  I guess their 5th album too.  Then they were far too difficult to play & sing at the same time.  I also learned a few other songs on my own…….

I was good enough to fill in for Chris Messer’s band “Left Foot Louie” who played polkas, country, & rock as the older crowd were calling it a night.  When Chis asked me to fill in for Tyler, I had one issue.  “OK but, you have to do the leads & difficult stuff.  I can’t do that stuff.”

I practiced once with Tyler Wanner, Corey McDonald & David Kliman.  I was impressed that Tyler was impressed that I could play “Slither” by Velvet Revolver & sing it also.  How could I not be impressed?  He listened to the solo twice & knew it!  BLEW MY MIND!

Check out this documentary about hired musicians who play whatever is needed on an album or tour with big name musicians like Billy Joel, Alice Cooper, Rob Zombie, etc.  It’s called “Hired Guns” on Netflix.

I am a U2 fan.  I’m still deliberating if I should purchase their new album?  However I’m leaning further to saying yes to the dress/album.  Oh, how Kim loves her TLC.  Yet, I’ve learned nothing.

I never really anticipated a new “System of a Down” album

Lead singer, Josh Homme, of Queens of the Stone Age, kicked & injured a photographer during a recent show.

Will this have any effect on my issue with iTunes at the moment?

Why do the Toronto Blue Jays have to wait for somebody else to make the first move?  The home run leader from last year just got traded to the N.Y. Yankees, & they’re in the same division.  The Yankees just added a 59 home run hitter to their lineup, move!  If nothing happens, say “Goodbye” to most of your ticket buyers, then sell the team that nobody will want.  They have needs not wants.

If the Blue Jays can dump Troy Tulowitzki at short stop & get Machado to join the team at short stop, I’m all in.  I wouldn’t let Josh Donaldson go if possible, he’s a late bloomer, & a good one!

I fell asleep to “The Watchmen” the album “Live & in Stereo”

I exercised to “Royal Blood” the brand new album “When did we get so dark?”

Yay it’s Friday & I’ve been waiting for it!  Sure I’m at home all day, but I exercise, take care of Brewster, have breakfast, watch minimal TV, shower, have lunch, write portions of this blog, practice guitar, & then I’ll hit the couch & listen to some music.  Then it’s 3:00 pm or so unless the dishwasher or hand washed dishes need to be tended to, or I need more fruit & veggie juice or I need to clean up something.  I’m usually out of bed by 8:30 am at the latest, I tend to go to bed around 11:00 pm.  Once I’m up it’s go, go, go, until everything I wanted to accomplish is done.

500 leg lifts, 200 pushups, 5 minutes of planking, yoga, 500 crunches & 100 back flexes this past week.

That’s 100 leg lifts, 40 pushups, 20 back flexes, 25 minutes of planking, 100 crunches & yoga 5 days a week.  First thing I do when I leave the bedroom, then breakfast & a shower.

Yes, those are my current goals.  I think they’ll stay at that limit for quite a while.  You know me though, I’ll likely push to raise some of the numbers sooner.

I used to be a decent swimmer.  I never took swimming lessons as a child.  My dad grew up playing water polo & swimming in the morning before class at the University.  He taught me how to swim.  My grandparents’ old condo had a swimming pool.  He taught me there & in the summer at the lake/cabin. My grandparents’ owned, built by my great grandfather.  I used to swim with no problems at all.  Now I wouldn’t get into a pool or lake without a life jacket on.

If you’re here strictly for the cancer news, that’s all I have for you today.

Royal Blood’s Facebook page

“Pleased to announce we’ll be supporting Queens of the Stone Age in North America in September/October. Tickets on sale 22nd June.”

Only Canadian date is in Toronto in October.  I guess technically that makes it a North American tour.  Toronto, just over a 2 day drive away from Saskatchewan.  Musically, I should move to Toronto or Europe.  Many North American tours are 20+ shows in America w/ 3 Canadian dates, Montreal, Toronto, B.C., & sometimes Calgary depending on the popularity of the artist(s).  Although Tool, Elton John, Ozzy Osbourne, Garth Brooks, Dixie Chicks, Blue Rodeo, Foo Fighters, In Flames, Trivium, Lamb of God, Megadeth etc.  Have at least played Saskatoon and a few of those have made their way to Regina.

TONS of great music for me being released this year.  I adore the new Big Wreck album. But the Paramore album “After Laughter” is on heavy rotation on our stereo & my iPod.  It’s much more of a pop album than previous albums that were the typical pop/punk/distorted guitars.

Just checked the ol’ iPod for counts of play on it!

30 times listening to Big Wreck’s ‘Grace Street’ & Paramore’s ‘After Laughter’

12 times for The Watchmen’s ‘Live & in Stereo’

The odd thing is I listen to our stereo more than my iPod!  I think I have a problem?

I’d sing & play these 2 songs at the band practices with my brother’s group!  He really doesn’t like these songs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mitch Fraser!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Because we know Gene Simmons needs more money????????????????

Wait for it………he’ll trademark air & water next at this rate!

Green Day albums ranked.  If it were me “American Idiot” would be a distant last place!

I’ve listened to the new Royal Blood album a few times this morning & WOW, no sophomore slump in sight.  I’d say it’s even better than their first album & it’s phenomenal also.

I went to a friend’s house last night to see his new place.  Pretty sweet place.  His condo looks great, could be that I haven’t scratched up, or demolished his walls with my wheelchair….yet!

Friday’s post wasn’t very good.  What would you like to see? (That I can tell you?)  Not much as for Music news yet this year.  This site had viewings in Canada & 3 or 4 people 38 times in the USA.  Please keep sharing people!  On Facebook we hit 79.  I can’t tell who is reading this but thank you.  As for who I see reading it on the website, all I see is the country & how many people from that country have viewed it.  If you’ve subscribed with your email I can see that as well.

Friday night was very, very tame.  We stayed home, had a meal of fend for yourself, watched the movie “Collateral Beauty” and went to bed around 10:30pm.  Good movie, just very slow all of the way through!

Saturday Kim went out groceries, while I cranked the stereo to “Diemonds” and did some dishes & cleaned Brewster’s throw up!

Sunday we actually went out for my cousin’s baby’s baptism.  A lot of my grandparent’s friends I haven’t seen in a whole.  I had too much lunch & Kim made the mistake of leaving me in the vehicle with peanut M & M, they’re long gone now.

Tomorrow I’ll begin some light workout finally.  I’ve hit my limit for claiming chiropractor appointments on my taxes.  When I saw him last week, he gave me the OK for light exercises!  FINALLY!

Listening for the weekend.

Ascot Royals, Big Wreck, Stitched up Heart, & all of the other stuff on here.

My sciatic nerve is driving me nuts.  I get up at 8:00 or 9:00am sit around in pain, watch TV, movies, Blu-rays, DVDs, listen to music, & read a bit.  When Kim comes home I’m bored.  I want to exercise & do something productive or just be a regular person for one day with a 9:00-5:00 job or 8:00-4:00 as it was.  Great I survived cancer aka I’m alive that’s the upside, I got really lucky & I don’t take that for granted.  A month & a half wasted because of a pinched nerve????????????????  Ridiculous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The year sort of ended the same way it started in that more celebrities passed away?  Didn’t we start the year off with a steady week & a half with a celebrity passing away every day & a smattering of more throughout the year?  Prince, Lemmy, David Bowie, Leonard Cohen, George Michael, Carrie Fisher, her mother Debbie Reynolds, etc.?

How rockers reacted to Carrie Fisher’s death, on twitter.

Other than being in almost constant pain for roughly a month & a half, my break over the holidays was nothing to complain about!  I got to see lots of family from out of town, Tim Wong, a lifetime friend Edmonton as well, Oh & Elka came from Edmonton too.  4 Christmas’s rolled into 9 days.  My family, Kim’s family, a visit with Tim, & a visit with Elka.

Oh I’m a big fan of his album “Chasing Yesterday” by Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds.  This should be great too!

Soundgarden shared it, & I love this song, not Johnny Cash’s lame cover of it……. awards.  Vote for best video.  Slim pickins for me.

Best trash metal albums of the 1990s.  I wasn’t even into “grunge” at the time, so metal had no chance.  This should be news for me too.

Took me a while but now I have & listen to Anthrax, Slayer, & Megadeth.

I’m positive there will be more coming down the pipe in 2017!

What the heck?  We almost lost Eddie Vedder & I missed it?

10 legendary bands without a platinum album.  I know why!  They’re all punk & metal groups aka all in very small niche markets, a TON of people don’t like this type of music.  I get it, I was exactly the same until the age of 18 or so.

Here’s a more complete list of musicians we lost in 2016

Misplays of the year Jose Bautista vs. Roughned Odor.  This was in May, 2nd Month of the season.

This was in October, in the playoffs.  BEST   SIGN   EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I did it.  I watched my first full game of NHL hockey on December 29th.  Since the most recent strike or lockout, I’ve not watched an entire period of one NHL game.  Probably portions of 7 periods of 7 games in 3 or 4 years.  I watched L.A. Kings vs. my second favourite team the Edmonton Oilers who won 3-1.  Hockey’s not the same as it used to be.  It’s still tough for me to sit through an entire NHL game.  I find the larger ice surface over sea in the Olympics or World Juniors to be a faster, wide open game.

I’m still not sold on this group.

Myles Kennedy & Mark Tremonti talk new album & the move to 7 string guitars.

No idea who these bands are, but it’s an interesting podcast to listen too on occasion.  It’s on every 2nd Thursday I believe?

….and the hits just keep on coming??????????????????????

NME’s top 50 of the year.  I listened to 3 of them & they’re not bad, number 1 is a very good album!

They did have this on the list which is good also!

David Draiman didn’t completely ruin this but there will never be another legendary rock act like “Queen”

I was never a diehard fan of Canada’s rock legends “The Tragically Hip”.  For me they were there, very good at what they do, I have 4 of their monstrous catalogue of albums & I listen to them on occasion.  The way they’ve had to end their career is terrible.  The lead singer, Gord Downie, has been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer.  Raw deal, bad news.

^^This was written long before hurricane Katrina it was also banned from radio with respect to hurricane Katrina.

I fell asleep to “Andy McKee” the album “Dream Catcher” after listening to the brand new live album from “Barenaked Ladies”. I preordered it & got it last night “Live at Red Rocks”

Exercise total for the week; 6000 crunches, 320 leg lifts, & 160 squats.

The squats are one of the most difficult exercises I do. My legs have very little muscle, if I’m not holding something, I’ll fall. I do my squats while keeping my balance with my sliding up & down my transfer pole. I don’t use any force or grab the pole to help me. It’s just there for balance.

I didn’t expect/want the world to stop when I got sick, & it didn’t which is a great thing, everything “carried on” as it should. Having an experience with cancer is something I would never wish on ANYONE. Not everyone reacts the same to someone having cancer. I get that.

Hard rock fans, buy this “Red Dragon” album by Room 333, which is compared to “La Gargola” by Chevelle!

Best live act? I’d have to go with Foo Fighters of course. Royal Blood, from what I’ve seen “live” on the internet, are a pleasant surprise! Their album was really good also, bass, drums & vocals. 2 guys & one AWESOME album!

Shut up Gene! Everytime he opens his mouth he’s nay saying the music industry. Fair enough, I do it too. I don’t think anyone, including me, needs to add more “fuel” to the fire!

The new Halestorm album is quite diverse. That’s one of the reasons Foo Fighters’ “The Colour & The Shape” is one of my favourite albums. No Halestorm doesn’t even come close to Foo Fighters for me.

Kansas could record again

Remember the feud in the ’90s between “Blur” & “Oasis”? I would pick Oasis in a heartbeat! Blur is back with a new album. Damon Albarn sang for “Blur” & “The Gorillaz”. For me it was “Oasis” & “Pulp” of which I own 1 Oasis album. I’ll never understand the attraction to The Gorillaz?

Mumford & little boys/Sons album review by the RIOB

No Regina date & the 2.5 hour drive to Saskatoon is incredibly boring & feels more like a never ending trip. I’m out for this one.

Undateable is just HILARIOUS!

Halestorm live & acoustic “Amen”

Now what do I do when I hear stop?

“……collaborate & listen…..”

“……in the name of love….”

“….Hammer time…”

“…..wait a minute, here’s a/my cup put some liquor in it…..”

New Kurt Cobain album coming after the documentary? I hope this doesn’t start a weird Tu-Pac thing?

The new Lamb of God album seems to be coming along well!

Yankees with held performance incentive, $6M, from A-Roid. Like he needs that + the other millions of dollars he has in the bank. Professional baseball player’s make WAY too much money!

Songs I like. “Eve 6” I don’t listen to the 2 Evanescence I have on my iTunes. I do own all 4 of Eve 6′ studio albums. The first few songs had videos on Much Music in the late ’90s. SOME LANGUAGE!!!!

The Evanescence song that most of my generation knows
