No summer vacation for us.  Kim’s work is rather shorthanded this month.

Friday ended with me having a beer & a covfefe while watching “Prime Time Sports with Bob McCown” followed by a trip to “The Queen City Ex” aka the carnival aka “Buffalo Days” to see “I Mother Earth” & “The Watchmen” in concert for a WHOPPING $12!  AWESOME!

We can look at this a few different ways.  A) I saw two of my BIG name bands from the ‘90s last year in 2 separate concerts at the casino.  B) I just saw them together Friday night at the travelling carnival.  C) Since 1999 I’ve been able to see them live while drinking a beer & paying less to see them.

The Watchmen are a fairly successful Canadian rock band, & incredible live.  The albums are great & then you see them live & they blow your mind they’re so good!

I Mother Earth is well taken among hard rock fans, but not for everyone.  I know Kim didn’t want to be there, but she stuck around, she could have left, I could have gotten a ride home with Mitch.

I guess Edwin’s back & Bryan’s out doing his solo country thing or is a concert promoter now.  Unfortunately Edwin & Bryan sound nothing alike.  We likely will never hear anything from the last 2 albums live (Edwin recorded just the first 2 albums).

The Watchmen played first from 7:00 pm – 8:20 pm or so finishing with their big hit………………

I Mother Earth played just as long & radio edit versions were not involved at all.  I think when they made the set list they may have been thinking something like this “They want this 7 minute song to be 5 minutes?  Too bad we’re making it 7:30 minutes long!”

I typically don’t like bands that improvise/”jam” on stage, if I’d have to choose one band that does it, I’d pick I Mother Earth in a heartbeat.

All we heard from I Mother Earth was about 5 songs from the first album and I’m guessing 7 songs from the second album.  Yes, we saw some slap guitar!  Not slap bass, but slap guitar in a solo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Who else does that?

This solo below has slap guitar in it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Drummer, bassist, guitar, vocals, & 2 additional percussionists FANTASTIC!

I had somewhat of a high school crush Friday night watching these bands.  I discovered The Watchmen at home from sick one day on Much Music, Canada’s MTV.  1994 I saw this video on MM……………

1996 rolled around & this video and song was everywhere……………..

If it costs me $6 per ‘90s Canadian rock band now, there are a few more I’d love to see doing a reunion tour, that will likely never happen or they’re still together!

  1. A) Finger Eleven still together. They haven’t stopped since they changed their name from “Rainbow Butt Monkeys” & recorded the album “Tip” in 1998
  1. B) Matthew Good Band almost a guarantee to NOT get back together
  1. C) Wide Mouth Mason, maybe?
  1. D) Our Lady Peace together & opening for Guns n’ Roses, I don’t know if Our Lady Peace ever really stopped, much like Econoline Crush? Both just seemed to fade away from the spotlight? I’m not a Guns n’ Roses fan, I won’t be there.  I did just see Our Lady Peace open for Bryan Adams though.  They’re together & they’re good, as long as they keep the bulk of their shows on songs from their first 4 albums, which they did when I saw them!  Our Lady Peace last released an album in 2012 & Econoline Crush is recording with a new contract & label.  Currently there are 5 of their albums on iTunes, the most recent from 2010, a greatest hits album.

There could be many more added to that list of ‘90s rock bands, but that list would make me EXTREMELY happy!  Big Wreck has been back since 2011 & have released 3 albums & a 7 song EP of live songs & a cover.

The coolest thing about Friday night was that I was wearing a metal band T-Shirt, Lamb of God, & was complimented on it twice!  Once waiting for the show to start & some guy flashed me the metal horns on our way to our vehicle after the show.

I’ve had this experience before wearing one of my Into Eternity shirts in Boston & Edmonton.  Into Eternity is a local metal band that has done quite well as far as underground metal goes, check iTunes or your local music store, you’ll see 4 albums & 2 singles.  The first album is difficult to find.

Saturday evening we were babysitting for our friends.  Kim took Hannah to the “Emoji Movie”.  I stayed home with Brewster & the Roughriders game & the Blue Jays game.

Sunday Kim & Hannah had breakfast before I was even awake from sleeping on the couch.  I’m not sure where Brewster ended up sleeping?  He tends to roam when Hannah’s here.  He’s not sure how he’ supposed to act around young kids, he tends to get scared & find a quiet spot or curl up on my lap.  He does this also if there’s more than 3 or 4 people around as well.  Poor guy’s getting old, he’ll be 12 years old on January 31st, 2018.  We got him from a breeder down the street from us in April of 2006.

We finished Sunday with an early birthday BBQ for Corey at their place & a pile of Corey & Jolene’s friends.  I’d call it an annual event (well, the last 4 years as far as I know).  Corey smokes a brisket, we all eat & drink!

While at Corey & Jolene’s place I had a VERY odd sense of anxiety.  I don’t know what caused it, it certainly wasn’t anyone’s fault.  It was all in my head!  I didn’t freak out or anything, I just clamed up & felt out of place?  I couldn’t tell you why, I just felt awkward among people that I have no reason to?  Weird feeling, never happened to me before?  Again, nobody’s fault, it was all in my head.

Monday will be a lazy day for us, get ready for the week, watch whatever is half decent on TV or Netflix, lay low & prepare for Tuesday.  Yes, Saskatchewan, Canada has the most days off than any other province I think it is?

IF YOU’RE HERE FOR THE UPDATE, THAT’S ALL THAT I HAVE FOR YOU TODAY.

I’m a big fan of Lamb of God, In Flames, Trivium, & many more metal bands!  Trivium has made 2 albums that are terrible to me though.  I have issues with “The Crusade” & “Shogun”.  I do like the song ‘The Crusade’, as for “Shogun” they seem to get stuck on a riff & repeat it many times.  Quite a few fans call “Shogun” their favourite album.  I don’t get it, but to each their own!  I got into them on the 2nd album “Ascendancy” released in 2005.  I own most of the CDs, until the last 2 which I bought on iTunes.  Anyways, here’s a review/reaction to the new single & the instrumental ‘The Crusade’.

How do the Blue Jays lose 16-7 on Friday in Houston, then play the same team the next day & win 4-3 in an extra inning.  Then go into the 9th inning ahead 6-3 and lose the game in the 9th inning 7-6?  Best team in baseball (Houston Astros) vs. the 2nd worst team (Toronto Blue Jays).  If you’re a casual Blue Jay fan, you may not want to watch a game for a year or two, this could get horrific!?

I fell asleep to “Alice Cooper” the album “Paranormal”, “Diemonds” the album “Never Wanna Die”, & finally “INXS” their “Greatest Hits”

Yeah, bonus live tracks at the end of this album.

I exercised to “Royal Blood” the album “How did we get so dark?”

Exercise total this week; 500 crunches, 500 leg lifts, 300 pushups, 200 back flexes, & 25 minutes of planking!  Every day starts with me exercising, no shower, dressed in workout attire, & no breakfast.  Once I finish my exercises, then I allow myself to have breakfast, shower, put on clean clothes, & usually in this room to work on the next blog.  Yep, I hit my goal every day this week.

I do get quiet exhausted after my 60 pushups.  I leave them for the end since I’m useless after them.  I roll on to my side or back since it’s easier to breathe!  I start my exercises on my back, crunches & leg lifts, once I roll on to my stomach & do ½ of my back flexes, I’m breathing pretty heavy already!  I end up doing some of my planking for a bit.  Once the back flexes & planking is done, then I’ll do a set of 20-30 pushups, then fish with 2 sets of 20 or a set of 30.

After I shower, I check to see if my balance has improved with my hands hovering by my transfer pole.  Some days are really good, & most days are bad.  When it’s a bad day I’ll try a few more times.  That’s the reason for the wheelchair & exercising!  I need to start walking with my walker at least once a week, if not 3 times a week.  When I do, I can tell that my exercising makes a HUGE improvement each time!  That being said, I’ve still have a long road ahead of me.

THAT’S ALL FOR THE CANCER TALK FOR NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thursday evening Kim came home & we pretty much left immediately to see “Spiderman: Homecoming”.  FANTASTIC movie!  I know comic book movies aren’t for everyone, but I’m all in for the Marvel & DC comic book movies!  “300” & “300 Rise of an Empire” were really good as well.  I couldn’t get into “Sin City” or any other graphic novel movies though.

That was our Thursday evening.  Friday morning we woke up & weren’t sure what to do with ourselves.  I had 3 things that needed to be done.  We went out in the late afternoon.  I had my Roughrider jersey from Andy Fantuz fixed, Kim picked up a few groceries we needed for supper.  Brewster & I went along but stayed in the vehicle.  He loves going for a “car ride”.  A “ride” in the summer means he gets to drool/pant all over my arm until we’re somewhere I can roll down the window for him!

Friday, after the few errands were done, we just stayed home.  I watched the Toronto Blue Jays actually win a game & Kim put the house back together after a morning of cleaning.  She doesn’t just clean, she does “spring cleaning” every weekend.  Everything is 10 feet away from where it’s supposed to be so she can clean underneath where it was!  I just try to stay out of her way!

Saturday we went over to my parents place for some BBQ ribs after an afternoon in the backyard, with my mother & aunt.  I found out the hard way that Molson original 16 in a can is a wee bit too carbonated for me, I switched to rum & coke!

Sundays are pretty quiet here.  Kim’s got a few things left on the grocery list.  I made a juice for the week.  Peeled all remaining carrots to BBQ them then keep them handy in the fridge.  BBQ carrots & onion are commonly a vegetable for supper or some type of broccoli dish, I love broccoli!  I’m in the middle of a Blue Jays game at the moment.

That’s our weekend here.  Remember it will be quiet on the blog page until Thursday again, I’ll catch you then!

IF YOU’RE HERE FOR THE UPDATE, THAT’S ALL THAT I HAVE FOR YOU TODAY.

Another reason for me to NOT buy terrible overpriced Molson beer at the new Mosaic Stadium!  $9 for a regular size can of Pilsner, Coors, or Coors Light……..NOT HAPPENING!

http://globalnews.ca/video/3594992/we-had-our-hopes-up-sask-craft-brewers-disappointed-their-beer-wont-be-sold-at-mosaic-stadium

http://regina.ctvnews.ca/video?clipId=1167315&binId=1.1165847&playlistPageNum=1#_gus&_gucid=&_gup=Facebook&_gsc=8qmzzbP

No Bushwakker’s or Rebellion?!?  No more beer for me at the new Mosaic stadium!  This no local beer really bugs me since the Saskatchewan Roughriders are a “community owned” team.  I don’t typically drink beer at a game, but lots of others do, & most of them don’t seem to care what it is as long as there is alcohol in it.  This “no community craft beer” rule is a laughable situation.  “Kick the little guy while we let the big corporate Molson Brewing control all & reap the benefits by charging our customers 300% than the store bought price”

If I really need to, I’ll get drunk at home, on craft beer & pay less while doing so.

FYI, I’ve only seen Molson Canadian being consumed by those that have just turned the legal age to drink alcohol or at a football game.  It’s like Fosters beer in Australia, Australians don’t drink much Foster’s beer from what I hear?

Still Tuesday July 26th. Just returned from the chiropractor. I actually cracked this time, last time I didn’t. Baseball & an ice pack & we’ll see how I feel in the morning? There likely wont be an exercise total this week or early on next week unless I wake up & feel great.

Wednesday morning much better back! Some stretching & ice, and I hope to be in my exercise routine by the beginning of next week!

My back muscles get tight over night of course, when I get up it’s not pleasant. After dooing multiple stretches & applying ice, it feels remarkably better, almost no pain at all.

On this day, Thursday, July 26th, 2012 I was released from the Wascana Rehabilitation Center & I haven’t returned since. I’d like to visit, but I can’t drive & Kim’s working full time.

Sorry, I just write a lot.

I REALLY liked my job as a printing press operator. The most difficult thing to deal with was getting the paper feeder set up properly. You could have identical press’ side by side & they wouldn’t work the same. I was young & still learning when I started there, around 23 I’d guess? I got cancer 6 days after my 28th birthday. I was thrown in & everyone expected a TON from me. When Sherry Stewart & I were working the same shift, I’d mentally race to keep up or try to pass her in setting up a job on a press. She is really good at her job & was always a step ahead of me. I kind of miss running a printing press. If I could go back to Impact Printers I would in a heart beat.

I didn’t seek out to be a printer, I fell into it accidentally I had no clue what I wanted to do. I grabbed a calender from SIAST & thought the Graphic Arts Production program looked interesting. Even when I first got there I thought I’d take desktop computer designing….boy was I wrong after my first semester I chose to going into the production side of things. I liked it, since I didn’t have to deal with clients for the most part. When I did have to deal with a client I was fine, not always what I wanted to do, but not a big deal.

When iPods came out, I’d pop in 1 ear bud, listen to the press & go about my day. Most print shops, at least the ones I worked at, nobody running a press wanted to stop for lunch or coffee. Once it’s running well you don’t want to interrupt a press. If it’s not going well, you have work to do/figure out the problem.

There are many famous groups I don’t listen to, since I’m not a fan of their music. I’m sorry if I don’t like your favourite band or solo act. It would be a pretty boring world if everybody liked the same stuff. Out of all of the bands/musicians I don’t listen to. If I had to choose one it would be Metallica. Monday night I saw the Batman vs. Superman movie. That was a big/loud response from the DC comics franchise to the Marvel comics franchise. For me Batman vs. Superman was hands down better than any Marvel movie & the Marvel movies are really good as well! If you’re on the fence about seeing this movie, get over it & see it! I went in with high expectations & the movie surpassed my expectations! REALLY amazing!

I exercise like mad so I can be more independent. At this point I’m confident I can do more than people think. When I first left the rehabilitation center, I was extremely weak. Our dinner plates were even too heavy for me to lift one of them. Now when I unload the dish washer I grab 3 of them to put away.

I don’t want to be a burden for anyone. I asked Kim for a ride to the movie theater since she had told me she didn’t want to see that movie. All I heard in response was “No, nobody is going to do that.”. She was afraid something might happen to me, because she loves me & I don’t have a cell phone. OK, why do I need a cell phone to be more independent? There was a time before when payphones didn’t even exist, what did those people do? “All my life” I’ve been told I can do anything I want/need to if I put my mind to it. Now so many people, not just my fantastic worrisome wife, are saying “Whoa, you can’t do that?!” Why? Trust me, if I say I can’t or can do it, there’s probably a reason that I’d say that. “Really? 8 or 9 years ago I’d be fine, but now that I’m physically disabled I can’t?” Holy mixed messages Batman! I’ve listened to suggestions from others & that’s great! I’ve chosen to do some & to let the other ones sit & wait.

What’s the point of me busting my butt 5 days a week if I’m being told I can’t do something? How will I learn what I can & can’t do? I learn by failing & trying something different the next time. I’ve been to that movie theater 100s of times in the last 20 years, I know it & I now how to manage myself there, able or disabled. A phone is going to save my life? Since when? I don’t have spider man senses that alert me if something bad is going to happen? Let me fail so I can learn how to succeed! If I say “Hey, I think I can do this?” Let me try, if I can’t do it, I’ll ask for help? I want to be more independent, but now everyone tells me I can’t, but from February 5th 2008 to July 26th 2012 I could do anything. How about for once I’ll tell you what I can or can’t do???

I know me & my limitations. Nobody else does, not even Kim. Thanks Kim, I know you didn’t want to see it, but thank you for taking me. I LOVE YOU!!! MORE THAN YOU’LL EVER KNOW!!!!

I took the rest of my frustration to my exercise & the numbers went up; 1500 crunches, 100 leg lifts, & 60 squats. Yes I’m sore, out of breath, sweaty, & tired. Am I not living up to anyone’s expectations, I don’t know? It sure feels like I’m not! I could sit on the couch all day, just whining & complaining, but that wont fix anything or I could exercise like a mad man & get better. I’m 36 years old, please stop treating me like a child? I’ve listen to everybody for too long. I’ll deal with this cancer $#@$%^$@ “my way”! Please don’t hold me back? What’s the worst that could happen? DEATH! Good grief, the doctors told everyone I would die February 5th, 2008, & they were wrong. I’m here and some people don’t approve of what I’m doing, so I change it, now these other people aren’t happy with what I’m doing to fix this situation. OK, I can’t make everyone happy all of the time. How about I focus on making myself, Kim, our family & close friends happy? Is that OK? “I’ve got to sink before I swim”!

I know this is all out of love & I do appreciate the concern from everyone, but I’ve got this.

I’m not really a fan of award shows, mostly because I have a 2% chance of knowing who the people are since many of them aren’t what I listen to. Video inside the link.

Why is this such a big deal? Transgender, lesbian, gay, bisexual, straight, black, white, brown, male or female these are all real people? It seems to be the “in” thing at the moment to be against someone who is not of the same race, religion or sexuality. Why?

Thank you MLB umpires! You’ve now changed far too many rules. So many that you can now dictate the outcome of a game. Meaningful games in September? They’re only meaningful if you win the games prior to September. That means every game is meaningful. To watch a nail biter of a game with a young 97MPH fastball pitcher allows 1 run & comes away with nothing & then have any team lose on a tremendously moronic call makes a mockery of the game! Again umpires, you can only go up from here………………..unless you’ve changed more rules? No, I’m not being biased. If that determined the outcome of any game, it would’ve been just wrong still! Rule books aren’t allowed on the field? They should be! Every umpire & field manager should have one…………….what with the constant changing of the rules to protect the games stars. It’s a sport, if they’re doing these changes in MLB, lets abolish fighting from the NHL………………you know…………….to protect the stars?

Rant over. That was Tuesday evening. It’s a new world now, you can’t change the past, & they had to lose at some point. No team has gone 162W-0L?!

Now after watching today’s game the Blue Jays are 2W-2L off day tomorrow, then 3 games in Toronto against the visiting Boston Red Sox. No weird/wonky calls today. After hearing what players from both teams said, for them the rule looks as clear as mud. Even the Tampa Bay defender said”I didn’t even feel his hand on my foot”. Today, no non-sense or ballyhoo.

Now a word from another random fan on facebook about the movie.

Screw the critics ..Fans loved it”

Any review on anything should be taken with a grain of salt. Make up your own mind about it. Do you want to follow the crowd, or march to the beat of your own drum? That’s exactly why the majority of this blog is me saying “Hey, I like this, maybe check it out if you like?”

This may be a good way to look at things. I don’t like sub genres. Metal is metal, rock is rock, pop is pop, country is country, EDM is EDM, etc. It’s either good or bad, whatever type of music it is. “You like Lamb of God? You must like everything metal”. Nope, but nice try!
