We had 4 Christmas’ this year.  First up was Christmas with Kim’s family.  Opened gifts here on Christmas Eve, then spent the 25th at Sherry & James’ place.  Played games, had our Christmas meal & watched a movie.  Kim’s family went home on Boxing Day.

In the afternoon of Boxing Day, Corey, Jolene, & Hannah came over in the mid-afternoon to have our Christmas we have with them as we do normally.  No big meal though!  Thank goodness.

The only problem for me was trying to figure out how to get into Sherry & James’ house.  It’s a nice place but not wheelchair friendly.  I made it in without falling!  I don’t think I’ve ever fallen there.  James’ brother Jeffrey was with us for 1/2 Christmas Day, & here on Christmas Eve as well.  He’s a really nice guy to chat with.

On the 27th we had Christmas with my family.  We all did an escape room.  2 teams of 5 people.  My uncle, his girlfriend, & 2 cousins were with us for Christmas.  We had pizza for supper, then opened gifts, & finished the evening with a game of Pictionary & Mad Gab.

After we had just finished opening gifts, my parents got a call from a paramedic in Calgary.  My grandparents were in Airdrie for Christmas staying with my aunt, uncle & 2 cousins.  They had dropped my grandparents of at the airport to fly home.  They hadn’t boarded the plane & my grandmother had “a small heart attack” they said.

They think it was cardio myopathy.  I guess it really damaged her heart & her brain wasn’t working quite right.  Mom & Dad were on the phone a lot on Friday (29th) keeping other family members up to date.

On the 28th I did absolutely nothing, I was REALLY tired.  Kim went over to visit Jolene & Hannah.  Their dog Dug needed to have a play date with Brewster.  Kim thought Corey was working, so I stayed home & watched “The X-Files” on Netflix.  I should have had a nap instead.  I was too young to watch this when it was on TV, but I can’t wait for the new season.

Friday the 29th was Christmas with my mother’s side of the family at my cousin’s house in Rouleau (pronounced Rolo).  Aunts, uncles, cousins & all of my cousin’s young kids.  More of a family get together.  No gifts or anything just appetizers & a turkey dinner.  Unfortunately Mitch & Dad were both ill & stayed home.

It’s REALLY cold out today, December 30, 2017, we’re not leaving the house today however, I’m wearing my usual attire of shorts & a T-Shirt though.  I even asked Kim for some of the comforter in the middle of the night.  That’s very rare.  Make a note on your calendar!

Cold day, a good day to hunker down & watch movies with Kimmy.  She found a “Rocky” marathon.  She loves those movies.  Yes, we own them all, from the first “Rocky” all the way to “#Creed”.

I don’t like to speak about my Christmas gifts.  It’s very embarrassing to me.  I’m grateful for them, but also embarrassed by the amount of stuff I receive.  I prefer & enjoy giving gifts.  That’s one of the reason I don’t talk about what I’ve received.  Please don’t ask?

Well, it’s New Year’s Eve December 31, 2017 means I’m 9 years cancer free.  I’m still in a wheelchair, iPatch over my left eye, & still on 5 medications.  All of that being said, I’m fine.

We spent New Year’s with Corey, Jolene, Hannah, Gosha, Twyla, & Elouise (spelling may be off here).  Yes we were home & in bed before midnight.

Kim has the entire week off, but I’ll start my workouts on Tuesday.   I’m going to change it up a bit throughout the year so it doesn’t become the same daily routine.  You’ll still get a weekly total though!

Just spoke with my mother, mom & dad may be heading to the Alberta boarder to pick up my grandparents this weekend (6th & 7th).  Just the other day grandma thought the year was 1532, she was in a mall, & had been there for 2.5 years.  Sounds like she is doing better now.  When the paramedic called on the 27th we were all shocked that they said Jean Fraser was in the back of the ambulance?  Grandpa is the one with a bad heart.  I guess I’m lucky to still have two grandparents alive at my age.  I also got to know 3 of my great grandmothers.

Another tune from “A Perfect Circle”

If I knew in 2017 what I know now, Pink, U2, The Devin Townsend Project, & Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds would have appeared on my top albums of the year.

Pink – Beautiful Trauma

U2 – Songs of Experience

No, I didn’t care for their free album either, “Songs of Innocence”

The Devin Townsend Project – Transcendence

Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds – Who Built the Moon?

I’ll do a review of these albums over the next 4 posts.  If you’ve never enjoyed U2, you probably won’t like their new album.  As a U2 fan, I REALLY like it.

Well, I guess that’s it for Taylor Field at Mosaic Stadium.  Saturday evening was the last football game at the stadium.  I didn’t go.  My aunt & uncle were in town, & I gave my uncle my ticket.  The organization had a lot of extra stuff going on before & after the.  On just a regular game, I can’t even have a water or pop.  No washrooms near me & I’m there about 1 hour before game time & roughly 1 hour after game time.  That’s roughly 5 hours of not having any fluids to avoid using any wheelchair washroom.  Kim & I watched the game at my parents’ house with my mom, aunt, grandparents, & Mitch & Rachel.  In the new stadium for the 2017 season, getting to a washroom should be quicker & easier for me.

It was a rather short visit with my aunt & from Alberta, but it’s always a good visit even if my aunt didn’t bring pierogi’s for me aka her favourite nephew!  She’ll never admit that, but we all know!

I was a little sore Thursday & Friday after finishing my exercises.  My lower back & shoulders were more annoying than sore.  This week should be better no that my body has done that much before.

I woke up Saturday morning & wasn’t ready to get out of bed.  I put the “Sorceress” album by “Opeth” on my iPod, finally gave it a good listen.  I liked it before, but I realized that morning that it’s incredible!!!  Diverse, weird, without any death metal vocals.  “Opeth” are a group that do a mellow/clean vocal album, then a totally different all death metal album.  The last 4 albums have been quite mellow yet intense.  I always notice something in the background that I missed on the previous listen.

“Foo Fighters” are on hiatus & want to do something weird when they return.  “Foo Fighters” should make a Christmas album, no one would see that coming…………..if I hadn’t just said it?

“Give me some mistletoe & I’ll kiss you” I’m not sure if that would work?

I remember the first time Corey McDonald played “Big Wreck” their 2nd album “The Pleasure & The Greed” on his new speakers.  I had listened to that album at least 50-100 times.  He put it on his stereo (back when us old people had music on things called CDs & one would cost $25).  I didn’t even recognize the opening guitar riff to the album it sounded so new & different.  I always hear something different in the background on a “Big Wreck” album.  From what I can tell from their Facebook page, the possibility of a new album in 2016 is quite realistic.

A Million Miles Away Blog on facebook.

Give the site a moment to load all of the links. It takes a bit for my computer & it crashes on Kim’s cell.

I don’t own a mobile device since I’m always with someone when I’m away from home. Anyone I’m out with has a cell or tablet/iPad, I don’t need one.

Two things you should know. I needed a break from my computer & on Wednesday morning we drove to Calgary for this fantastic concert.

Now my dad has seen Foo Fighters 3 times since 2008, & I’ve seen them 4 times since 2000. 2000 in Saskatoon at a 1 day outdoor festival, 2003 at a hall in Edmonton, 2011 & 2015 in Calgary. I’ll just say the concert was AWESOME! Royal Blood opened, played from 7-8, played a bit of a riff from Black Sabbath & most of their album. Foo Fighters played from 8:30-11:00, with no encore, a Rolling Stones song & “Under Pressure” by Queen & David Bowie, both covers were pretty much spot on. They also played an album track that a casual fan might not have recognized? Also 3 songs from the new album “Sonic Highways”

I can’t remember the Black Sabbath riff Royal Blood played?

Royal Blood was really good too though! Bass player/singer & a drummer! REALLY GOOD!

The 4 of us, Mom, Dad, Kim & I stayed with my aunt & uncle, Kent & Leanne. We also visited my aunt & uncle in Aidrie, Joan & Terrance with my cousins Ryan & Kyla. Quick trip, drove all day Wednesday & Sunday, concert was Thursday evening. I think I gained 20lbs with visiting 2 brewerys, eating bread, cheese & scones, along with my aunt Joan’s perogys. We did sneak in a visit with Rydell & Candice which was really good. Candice is pregnant & was due on the 11th. She’s still pregnant though, waiting anxiously to get that baby out. She is & always has been PHAT! No “F” though, I can’t say DOPE since she has never smoked marijuana.

Good but fast trip to Calgary! Big thanks to Kent & Leanne for letting us stay with them & keeping us well fed & drunk………………..uh………………….hydrated?

Fun trip, only problem was Kim & I would wake up & pretty much not see each other until supper time. She would go out with my aunt & mother, while I went out with my uncle & father. My dad is the oldest of 3 children, Uncle Kent is the middle child & my Aunt Joan in Airdrie is the youngest of 3.

I listened to my iPod all the way to Calgary & back. Kim wanted to listen to an audiobook, I would’ve fallen asleep likely.

Soundgarden was on the cover of Spin magazine 5 years ago today!

I’ve heard the name “The Dead Weather”, I’ve never heard their music until now

I’m REALLY enjoying the new Finger Eleven album! It exceeded my expectations!

As well as the new Lamb of God album

I hate pre 1985 Rush, but this is pretty cool. An audience member sings “Tom Sawyer” on stage with Foo Fighters.

Good find Justin Bender!

Hard rock fans, buy this “Red Dragon” album by Room 333, which is compared to “La Gargola” by Chevelle!

Halestorm love ’em or hate ’em they’ve broken records on the music charts. That being said, Britney Spears was rocking the top of the music charts back in her day?

Can we call him & not Billy? I think there’s a HUGE chance that has had more success. If I had to choose it would be a nano second, hands down Smashing Pumpkins!

This is great but Dave Grohl didn’t even finish high school, he seems to be doing OK.

Why am I reporting on 10 weird Marilyn Manson moments? ONLY 10?????

What Slash does admire about Axl Rose. Coincidence it’s a short video? I never really got into Guns n’ Roses. I bought “Appetite for Destruction” but only enjoyed at most 2 songs. Too ’80s for me. Sounded a bit too much like ’80s hair metal to me. The Riders finally stopped playing this song from 1987!!!! Way to live in the past Saskatchewan Roughriders. I guess we did win the ’89 Grey Cup (2nd)! It’s been replaced with this song from 2013.

I prefer the second/newer song but you can’t make everyone happy all of the time & it’s not like I have season tickets for the music. Maybe play country music, not my thing really but I would think at least 60% or more of the crowd would appreciate ?

Classic Rock’s tracks of the week.

If you’re Bruno Mars & you start at 10, where do you go from there?

11 if you’re “Spinal Tap”, but I think Bruno just went to 50 like in “The Princess Bride”

Anyone remember “Jason Gideon” from “Criminal Minds” played by Mandy Patinkin? He also played “Inigo Montoya” in The Princess Bride.

A little “EW” with Jimmy Fallon & Ariana Grande

Queens of the Stone Age released their 4th album 10 years ago. I still listen to all of their albums since the 3rd one was released with Dave Grohl playing drums on it & their latest release from 2013. This was THE song for me on “Lullabies to Paralyze” 10 years ago.

Jack White & Robert Plant play “The Lemon Song” by Led Zeppelin

Tom DeLonge maps out 2015, 4 albums & details split from Blink 182

Sneak Peek at the Tremonti single on iTunes Tuesday @ 12:00am Eastern time.

As a dedicated Foo Fighters fan I’d love to see new material & I’m sure they will continue releasing new albums. I think casual fans might enjoy if they just preformed new material & released live bootlegs to concert goers?
