Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

5 days of exercise total; 400 pushups, 600 leg lifts, 300 crunches, 300 tricep lifts, 450 squats, 300 back flexes.

Our universal remote is doing sketchy stuff again on the charger.  I listen to 2 or 3 albums last night so I’ll use them here I guess.

I fell asleep to “Into Eternity” the album “The Sirens”, “Lenny Kravitz” the album “Mama Said”, & “Lenny Kravitz” his “Greatest Hits”

There were 2 things I was terrified of while I was in the WRC.  1 near the beginning of 2009 & the other near the end of thing in 2012.  A tilt table & then a wobble board, both a part of my occupational therapy

My 2 therapists would come to my room & have me lay on the tilt table.  A small step to “stand” on at one end for my feet & nothing else but Velcro straps for my ankles, legs, waist, & chest.  Once I was strapped in they’d tilt the table from 180 degrees to 90 degrees so I was in a standing position.  I remember the one time I was freaking out, my occupational therapist said “That’s only 70 degrees?”  I replied “That’s enough for me!”  I was SO glad that only lasted a few weeks.  She’d bring a bouncy ball to play catch with while I was upright.  I think I made it to 90 degrees eventually?

The other one was called a wobble board, to activate my abs.  Even after the 1,000s of crunches & leg lifts I still don’t think I could do that.  It’s a board you sit on but on the bottom it’s not flat, it’s half of a ball.  She’d raise the table so my feet weren’t touching the ground.  Then she would go behind me & randomly push or pull me in different directions.  All about working on my abs so they’d kick in & help me stay upright, no, my hands were not allowed to touch anything.  I hated that thing, I would go to the therapy room & immediately beg her to not do the wobble board that day.  I was still fairly weak at that point, but she never let me fall.

I REFUSE TO STREAM MUSIC!!!!  APPLE, PLEASE DON’T SCREW THIS UP!!!  I DOWNLOAD ONLY OR ELSE I’M LEFT WITH BUYING VERY FEW RECORDS!  NO PHYSICAL SPACE & I CAN’T AFFORD A TON OF THEM!!!!

So they’re just making a “better” mouse trap for streaming music?

Is Motley Crue’s Tommy Lee angry or broke?

New track from the upcoming “In Flames” album “I, The Mask”

The music industry is the scientist & we’re the lab rats.  Stop trying to be like everyone else by buying the other companies & maybe try taking a different path, that way you might learn something?  I don’t think many people are happy with the status quo?

THE SMASHING PUMPKINS

“The group that grunge forgot” says singer Billy Corgan.  Is that necessarily a bad thing?  If so, why?  He’s still a working musician, probably making more money than he needs, with less fan fair.  You’d think it would be nice in that situation?  If you’re a working musician making music that you like, great!  You shouldn’t need/want to be the center of attention all of the time.  If you like what you’re doing & millions of other people do, that’s more than enough right there.

I don’t think I have all of their albums but I have quite a few?

1991   GISH

1993   SIAMESE DREAM

1995   MELON COLLIE & THE INFINIT SADNESS (DOUBLE ALBUM)

1998   ADORE

2000   MACHINA/The Machines of God

From here on my CDs & iTunes are all fluffernutted.  There is a “GREATEST HITS” in here that I got from my brother years ago for Christmas.

2014   MONUMENTS TO AN ELEGY

2018   SHINY OH SO BRIGHT VOL. 1/ LP: NO PAST.  NO FUTURE.  NO SUN.

8 song album & I’m not much of a fan of the first song.

https://ca.yahoo.com/sports/news/bryce-harpers-fit-blue-jays-isnt-fan-fever-dream-181020806.html

I think this is FAKE NEWS.  I don’t rely on www.yahoo.com for news, it seems more like tabloid news.  Outfielder & free agent Bryce Harper is 26 years old, he’s asking for a 10 year deal for $500,000,000.  My issues with that are, nobody in their right mind will sign any player for 10 years.  It’s usually 5 or 6 years.  My 2nd issue is the Toronto Blue Jays have 4 or 5 young guys coming to spring training competing for the 1 outfield position left & they won’t break the bank.  My 3rd issue is $50 million a year nobody will sign him for that much money a year, is he delusional?  Last year the San Francisco Giants had the largest pay roll in baseball at $221,430,000 so he thinks he’ll take roughly a 2/5 of that each year?  Good luck with that one!  He’ll hit 35-45 homeruns, but I’d be out for sure.  Not my money though.  He’s such a catch, I wonder why nobody has signed him yet?  Pitchers & catchers report to Spring Training on Valentine’s Day!

The more you share this, the more readers I get.  No, I’m not profiting from this in any way.  I can’t tell who’s reading this but thank you!

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

I fell asleep to “Coheed and Cambria” the album “Good Apollo I’m Burning Star IV…”

I exercised to “Dead Sara” the album “Dead Sara”

This is a bit late today, sorry.  We had eye appointments this morning.  Then we came home to do my exercises after & Kim bolted to a meeting at work.

So I guess this makes me 10 years & 4 days cancer free.  The doctors thought my cancer might come back in 2013.  Thankfully it didn’t.  I would have been disappointed, & I wouldn’t want others to freak out, but many would have.

I’m not scared of death, I’m scared of how I’ll die though (hopefully in 50 years).  I’m not afraid of being dead though.  Hopefully it means that I’ve accomplished all that I needed to & it’s my time to go.

How were my holidays?  Very good, but glad to do something productive aka I’m ready for a break from my break.  I got to see my wife’s family for our first Christmas this year, Kim’s aunt Lorna was here too!  They were here from the afternoon of December 20th & drove home on the afternoon of the 24th.  Then we had our second Christmas with my family at my parents’ place.  Family from Calgary & Winnipeg came here this year too.  Good holiday, great time seeing so many people!

We had multiple Christmas’.  Kim’s family, my family, Timothy Wong & his son Nicholas, Chris Hutton & Laurie with their 2 kids, & Corey McDonald & Jolene with their 2 kids.

Exercise total for 2018; 26,675 pushups, 14,560 tricep lifts, 26,710 leg lifts, 7,660 back flexes, 15,220 crunches, 14,440 squats.

FYI – I DON’T LOOK AS THOUGH I’VE DONE MUCH EXERCISE AT ALL?

Top 10 albums of the year for me!  Singles, EPs, & live albums are only accepted as honorable mentions!  Before we get into my top 10 albums, here’s www.loudwire.com top 30 hard rock albums of the year.

Weekly exercise total; 600 pushups, 300 tricep pushups, 175 back flexes, 360 squats, 600 leg lifts, 300 crunches.

I fell asleep to “Neil Young” a greatest hits album

I exercised to “Ben Folds Five” the album “Whatever & Ever Amen”

Yes, I exercise immediately every morning.  Unfortunately cardio is not a regular part of the regular routine.  By the time Kim gets home from work, I’m exhausted & more exercise is usually the furthest thing from my mind.  I’m not blaming anyone for this.  “I need somebody” to assist me so I don’t fall & crack my head open.

The morning exercises help immensely with my walking, which is always assisted & with a walker.  “I’m not satisfied” with my status quo.  I’m not afraid to pile on more exercise, I just need to kick myself in the butt & do more.

I don’t even like talking about this, but it happened.  I don’t want to make a BIG deal about this but it is a BIG deal.  I’d love eradicate racism.  That’s won’t happen with Trump, Un, & Putin in power.  I know I’ll catch crap for this, but it needs to be said.

Abbreviating the “N” word to “Nig” does NOT make it any less offensive.  It angers, saddens, & offends me that people have to deal with this garbage & that the person who said this is a distant blood relative of mine.

I’ll be the first one to tell you that I’m not perfect.  I’ve NEVER even considered using a racial slur at anyone!  My aunt would severely over tan, we were in a restaurant & I said “WOW you look like an Indian”!  I think everyone thought I was using a racial slur regarding the Aboriginal community and told me to quiet down.  WOW were they off.  What I meant is people from India.  How is this racist?  Indian, Canadian, American, African, Australian, Mexican, English, etc.  I find East Indian racist, why do I have to specify Indian as “East” Indian?  Teach me please, should I use another word?

Metal screaming isn’t just noise & not everyone can do it, me included!

“Coheed & Cambria”.  Their new album “The Unheavenly Creatures” – October 5th release date, has some catchy tunes on it.

“Nothing but Thieves” – What did you think made me this way? 4 song EP – October 19th

“Greta Van Fleet” – Anthem of the Peaceful Army, October 19th

“The Struts” – Young & Dangerous, out October 26th on iTunes

“Into Eternity” – The Sirens, out October 26th on iTunes & more importantly www.bandcamp.com the money spent on www.bandcamp.com sends the majority of the proceeds go directly to the band members!

“Tenacious D” – Post Apocolypto, November 2nd on iTunes

“Muse” – Simulation Theory, November 9th on iTunes

No I don’t have all of these on preorder from iTunes.  I have 4/8 on preorder.  I hope to purchase a CD at a future “Into Eternity” show.  I’m holding out on “Tenacious D” since the previous album was more about vulgarity than anything else.  I’m going to wait until November for “Coheed & Cambria”.  I have a TON of music coming to me in October.

I just read a bit about another album release in October 26th, another one I’ll wait for until November.  My limit for October & November is at it’s capacity.

“Chevelle” – 12 Bloody Spies B – Sides & Rarities, October 26th full release date.

That’s it for iTunes purchases for me this year.  Gotta start with the Christmas Gifts, & probably delay more purchases on iTunes this year.

As a brain cancer survivor, I find that I have less energy than others who haven’t had brain cancer.  I can’t speak for others who have had different types of cancer & yes, I know more people who have had cancer than most people think, & I don’t know who was in the Wascana Rehabilitation Center for cancer related issues.  Either way that really isn’t my story to tell.

I know that not everyone wants to blab about their personal brush with cancer whether they’ve had it or know someone who has.  This blog wasn’t my idea, it’s meant to keep people up to date on my recovery & I agreed to it, I hope someone will benefit or is benefitting from this?

This is supposed to help with my hands, I find that I tend to use my index finger & thumb on each hand.  My left hand is useless & really isn’t steady at all to this day.

I had absolutely no energy or get up & go in me this week.  I was tired & sore, it was time to listen to my body.  So the exercise total is pitiful at best, for me.  I expect a TON more out of myself.

5 day weekly total; 200 pushups, 0 tricep pushups, 50 back flexes, 200 leg lifts, 100  crunches, 120 squats.

Music from the week; “Finger Eleven”, “Dead Sara”, “Halestorm”, “Megadeth”, “Metallica”, & “Coldplay”.

Release on Friday, October 26th.  New album from “The Struts” (2nd album) & “Into Eternity” (6th album)

I’m going to hold off on the “Into Eternity” album & hopefully get it at a show in town.  You can find it on www.bandcamp.com for $15 as well.

My opinion on this subject tends to be met with fierce aggression.  You have right to your opinion as much as I do.  You can call me any name you like & I will gladly feed the rope!

You’d think a band like “Lamb of God” would be rich, you’re totally wrong!  They play multiple sold out venues every year all over the world, no not every show is sold out.  They record, they tour & what is there biggest source of income?  Merchandise that they’ve paid for to sell at their shows.  Not album sales, not streaming sites, not tour tickets, MERCHANDISE.  Think of how many people they have to pay for a concert or recording an album.

They go home to Virginia & do normal stuff, I’ve got it on video.  Fix/build a deck, cook, race cheap almost dead cars, go to a chili cook-off, etc.  What a lavish lifestyle for musicians of this century!  Just because it’s legal doesn’t mean it’s right.  Go ahead, drink more of the punch!  If you think that’s rude, you deemed it that way.  My opinion is that streaming music is terrible at best.  Wait until I tell you how I really feel!  Might as well chain smoke tobacco & become an alcoholic.  They’re both legal too, & they’ll kill you………..literally!  Ah crap, you have to pay for them, well that’s out of the question then?  Yes I drink, not in excess.  3 drinks tops on a Friday, & 3 on a Saturday.  If it’s a special occasion, only until I’m just a wee tipsy.

I only bring this up because iTunes are phasing out music downloads to compete with streaming site Spotify.  Both streaming services pay a very low amount to any musician.  CDs & downloads are said to be gone by the end of March.  I use iTunes for music mostly, & renting movies on occasion.  With music downloads going away, I’m not sure if I’ll use the original iPhone we have in a drawer without activating a number to it or if I’ll start a vinyl collection?  I know what I’d like to do, but that’s not financially realistic in my/our situation.

Do you have a laptop, iPad, or iPhone?  If so, did you have a desktop computer before?  If yes, thanks from Apple, you’ve given them a TON of money because they have convinced you that an outrageously overpriced phone is needed.  The only difference between all of these gadgets is that a phone makes phone calls & texts.

Before I get any fiery backlash regarding this.  This is not aimed at any individual.  If I wanted this to be private I’d email that person!

Let’s all bow down to millennials with an attention span of 1 second.  You don’t like a 3 hour baseball game or a 3 hour CFL game?  Great enjoy a 4 hour NFL game!  Remember the 6 second videos?  They were too long for a typical millennial’s attention span, so they shortened it to a 1 second video.  Well that was dumb!

I feel like the last one at the bar, searching for something that’s already gone.  Wait, I figured it out in a stroke of absolute GENIUS!  If I stream music for as long as said streaming site is operational, when they get shut down & they likely will, since only vinyl has stood the test of time, the streaming site has to let me keep what I’ve chosen to stream.  When a magazine goes out of business, they don’t take away previous publications.  My sister-in-law & brother-in-law have MOUNTAINS of older magazine publications.

Please clue me in on this?  Am I up the creek without a paddle or am I correct in thinking this?

Despite all of this why do previous musicians get to make more cash than current musicians?  Everybody is making more money due to inflation except musicians who are making less.  WHY?

ELVIS COSTELLO & THE ATTRACTIONS

All I have is a greatest hits album of theirs.  This is the other Elvis that nobody talks about.  He’s a very good singer/songwriter who is also probably a really good front man.  He’s English I believe & is married to Canadian jazz artist Diana Krall from the west coast of Canada in British Columbia.

I fell asleep to “In Flames” the album “Battles”

I exercised to “Alter Bridge” the album “Fortress”

Kim took Monday off, she told me earlier on Sunday.  We got up & she went for a run, while I did my exercises.  Then we went out for lunch & I needed some shorts.  Brewster got to hide out alone at Sherry & James’ place.  He can’t stay here alone, he has bad anxiety & makes a lot of noise.  We had a noise complaint when we first moved here.

Oh a pint of Guiness beer was SSSOOOO tasty at lunch!!  That’s a REALLY good treat, since it’s roughly the same price for a 4 or 8 pack as it is for a 15 pack of generic beer in a liquor store.

I hope you’ve all discovered “The Fosters” which is on Netflix.  I think we’re on episode 7?  If you liked “Parenthood” there’s a very good chance you will like “The Fosters”

I miss “Parenthood”, I wish it was on Netflix.

I’m OK, I survived stage 4 brain cancer.  I saw this commercial on Tuesday & realized how lucky I was, again!

I could have been born with a disability, maybe I’d never know what it’s like to walk?  My family doctor tells me how lucky I am more often than not when I see him.  When I saw him in the spring Kim & I had just celebrated our “Lucky 13” wedding anniversary.  I was joking of course, he replied “VERY lucky 13th anniversary.  What did you two do?”  I told him “Kim had her head over a pot of boiling water with a towel over her head.  Trying to steam the cold out of her.  I watched TV”!

I watch too much CNN.  It’s hard to avoid watching a car crash in slomotion though, especially when everything hit the fan on Tuesday.

I hope this means it’s “The Beginning of the End” for the president who won’t be named.

See if you agree with this list?  For me, it’s more “no” than “yes”.

PARAMORE

Took me a looooooooong time to finally hear this band.  I think I jumped on the bandwagon on their 4th album?  They’ve released 5, I was late to the party, & it’s a really fun party.  The first album was released in 2005.  I believe singer, Hayley Williams, was signed to a record label at the age of 14.  She agreed to it, on the condition her band ‘Paramore’ was included.  I think they worked on their music & waited a couple of years to release the debut album in 2005.  I believe she’s 30 now & the most recent release was in 2017, she was 29 at the time of recording?  The 5th album made me a HUGE fan!  Totally different than their previous releases, which are also really good.  So here is a sampling of their stuff…..

2005    ALL WE KNOW IS FALING

2007     RIOT!

2009    BRAND NEW EYES

They’ve done the pop/punk thing & have done it well, if you ask me, this album is a bit different & sort of foreshadows what will happen on the 5th album.

2013   PARAMORE

2017   AFTER LAUGHTER

This “After Laughter” album REALLY impressed me.  I’m in & can’t wait for what’s next, but I still can’t stop listening to these albums.

Please share this, I’m not profiting from this at all.  Word of mouth is the only way of promoting this.

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

SHORT WEEK, I’LL CATCH YOU ON FRIDAY!!

Music throughout the weekend. “Metallica”, “Halestorm”, “The Beaches”, “Foo Fighters”, “Tool”, & “Tremonti”

Left for my family’s cabin Friday after Kim finished work & when we were done packing on Friday, shortly after 7:00 pm.  We ate en route, it’s almost exactly a 1 hour drive.  We haven’t been there the last 2 years, & no, it’s not winterized.  One of my cousins from Manitoba was there with my mom & another couple most of the week.  Short trip, but well worth it! We stayed up Friday with the guys watching “Hot Fuzz”, an instant classic, on Netflix & the girls playing cards.

On Saturday we drove to Chamberlin to ‘Twisted Sisters’ for some always tasty ice cream in the afternoon.  An appetizer for a meal of deep fried tiny fish bits, seasoned & deep fried potato skins, & deep fried turkey.  Thanks to Ray & Karen for the great meal.

We stayed up to play cards & drink, all 7 of us, on Saturday night.  Dad & Ray have been working at remodeling the cabin & have made the washroom easier for me to get into aka more accessible for me.  I believe there are more changes to come, & I’m anxious to see the finished product, so far it’s looking very good!

Drove back home on Sunday, just to get some stuff ready for the week.  Just do some of the stuff for the week ahead.  My body was absolutely craving water & vegetables.

I guess the “Into Eternity” release on Friday was only a preorder?  I’ll grab a CD when I see them next time in concert if possible!  They’re from Regina so I’m sure I’ll see them live!

Dave Grohl plays all of the instruments on 23 minute song.  Interview with Jimmy Kimmel!

HALESTORM

A brother & sister along with two friends.  The group is based in Philadelphia.  They call themselves a metal band, I would call them a hard rock group though.  3 guys & one girl.  The drummer is the singer/guitar player’s younger brother, the two friends are filling the sound on bass & lead guitar.  The brother & sister started the group in school at a talent show.  The 2 of them played & a fellow student asked what their group was called she replied “Halestorm” since their last name is Hale.  They have 4 studio release albums, 1 live album, & 3 EPs of 6 songs each of cover songs.  Their 4th studio release came out on July 27th, 2018.  The first 2 albums I find to be very similar.  I like both although they’re both very similar.  I’ll give you 2 songs from each of the first 3 albums & we’ll see what happens with the latest release…

I fell asleep to “The Struts” the album “Everybody Wants”

I exercised to “Pink” the album “Beautiful Trauma”

2 days of walking with my walker with Kim helping me in the evenings.  She had some work related stuff to do this week.  I’m not posting the walking distance until the end of November.  It’s more about the quality than the quantity.

Morning exercise total; 625 pushups, 500 crunches, 650 leg lifts, & 420 squats.  Other exercises I did on occasion 150 tricep pushups & 40 back flexes.

Every day this week I’ve felt exhausted even before I exercise.  I wake up & think “Yay it’s Friday………nope it’s _________ ah, crap!”  No matter what I’m thinking on any day, I’m completely useless for a good 2-5 minutes & avoid any physical activity, even a shower.

So many things to think about when I’m walking!  Keep the walker straight, strike the floor with my heel, stand up straight, don’t take un-normal step amounts, etc.  I guess I should focus on one issue at a time, it should be less stressful that way.  I like to think my day is done after my morning routine, nope!  As much as I don’t like it, I don’t want to live in a wheelchair the rest of my life, & the exercises are making a noticeable difference, but I always know that someone is doing better than me.

This exercising isn’t just for me, it’s for me not to be a burden to other people too.  Nobody says I’m a burden, but things would be much easier if I was more independent.

How do I find out about the newer bands that I like?  Facebook &/or www.youtube.com.  I see a group I’ve never heard of & jump in feet first.  So this new music I find is all youtube’s fault.  “The Beaches”, “Nothing but Thieves”, “Dead Sara”, “The Struts”, “Greta Van Fleet” etc.  I see a thumbnail on www.youtube.com  & I click on it.  If I don’t like it, oh well there goes 3 minutes or less of my time.

If you don’t know who “The Beaches” are, you will come Juno time if you’re Canadian.  They’re nominated for ‘Best New Artist’.  They fall into the indie rock category which I sort of avoid but they got me.  4 girls in their early 20s from Ontario.

Summer TV isn’t terrible Toronto Blue Jays almost every day.  Then “Suits”, “Dr. Pimple Popper”, the TV series “Shooter”, “The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon”, & “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert”

It’s on TLC, I just assume it’s not real, very entertaining though!

“Shooter” is based on the movie starring Mark Wahlberg.  He the producer for this show.  The first season was the story that was told in the movie.  They’re on the 3rd season now.

No release date or preorder date has been announced yet, but I’m anxious for the new “Greta Van Fleet” album at the end of August or a bit later & MUSE in November!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Today is “Into Eternity” day!!!

BRYAN ADAMS

I currently own only his ‘Greatest Hits’ & I had to add “Cuts Like a Knife” to it.  His album “Waking up the Neighbours” was one of the first 2 CDs I got with a boom box when I was 11.  The other CD was “C+C Music Factory”.  Bryan Adams is a Canadian legend.  I saw him last year at the new football stadium before the inaugural season started.  I saw him at ‘The Conexus Arts Center” 3 years ago (?), just him, his acoustic guitar, & a piano player.  Both shows did not disappoint. He’s been releasing albums since 1981 from what I can tell on iTunes.  Yes, he has a large catalogue of songs.  In no particular order, here’s a sampling…..

This first one is on “Waking up the Neighbours”

The more you share this, the more readers I get.  No, I’m not profiting from this in any way.  I can’t tell who’s reading this but thank you!
