Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

Music throughout the weekend. “Foo Fighters”, “Queens of the Stone Age”, “Alter Bridge”, “Dead Sara”, “Halestorm”, “A Perfect Circle”, & “Eric Clapton”

Friday evening was quite tame.  We watched “The Ellen Degeneres Show” as usual when Kim gets home, I watched half of the Blue Jays game, then we binge watched 4 episodes of “The Fosters” on Netflix.  We’re half way through season 3.

Saturday morning Kim picked up our friends daughter & took her out for a while.  I got up while they were out & watched the last 3 innings of the baseball game.  Then I watched the pre-game for Saturday’s Blue Jays game.

Then Kim & Hannah came here to paint, colour, use the sticker books, have lunch, etc.  By then I was watching the “Banjo Bowl” between the Saskatchewan Roughriders & the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in Winnipeg.  That finished & I watched Saturday’s Blue Jays game.  Once that was over, Kim wanted to watch more of “The Fosters”.  We binge watched 3 episodes & went to bed.

While Hannah was here, she was very intrigued by “Uncle” Chris’ new Roughrider green wheelchair!  She spent quite a bit of time going across our suite & turning around to go back the other way, after we helped her figure out how to use it.  She’s a better driver than me.  She also watched some of the football game.  She told me “Uncle Chris.  In our house, we always cheer for the Riders”.  Smart kid, she’s being raised by good parents!

Went over to Corey & Jolene’s place for a BBQ.  Beer + meat = good times.  A get together for a bunch of us to see Kayll, Shannon, & toddler Emmett!

Why bother making the announcement to not play a song?  Even “Big Wreck” did this with the song “Ladylike” from their 2001 album “The Pleasure & the Greed”

This was supposed to be about Mike Myers channeling ‘Wayne’s World’ but nothing says “Alice Cooper” like bubble machines!  Hahahahahahaha!  I love Alice Cooper!

I’ve always enjoyed Genesis & Phil Collins, together & Phil Collins as a solo artist.  Phil Collins was the drummer in Genesis while Peter Gabriel was the singer.  I don’t know if Peter Gabriel left or was forced out of the band?  Phil Collins took over as singer when Peter Gabriel was out of the band.  Who is Peter Gabriel you ask?  This guy…

I was born in 1980.  My parents didn’t listen to ‘80s hair metal, so I wasn’t exposed to that music.  I grew up to what they listened to.  I wasn’t exposed to my generation’s music until I was in high school in the early ‘90s.  I did purchase the Genesis album “We can’t Dance” which was released in 1991 & I probably bought it when I could drive or asked my mom to buy it for me at Costco?  All that I own now is a Genesis Greatest Hits album & a couple of Phil Collins Greatest Hits albums from iTunes.

The more you share this, the more readers I get.  No, I’m not profiting from this in any way.

I’m very tired this week.  Kim wakes me up when she gets up at 6:00 am to get ready for work.  I fall asleep until she wakes me up at 7:00 am.  This week I either wake up at 9:00 am or 8:00 am, or I just lay in bed wasting the day until 8:00 am or so.  I just feel lazy this week, but I have continued to exercise like a mad man!  It’s taking me a little longer to do my exercises, which I guess is a “good thing”.  Quality over quantity!  Today was even worse.  I slept until 9:00 am, did my squats & crunches, went to the shower, & cleaned up the kitchen.  Once this is done I’ll be sitting on the couch.  Nothing hurts or anything like that.  I just don’t have any “fuel” in the tank left.  Tomorrow I’ll do my pushups & leg lifts.   In the big picture, doing ½ of my exercises for 2 days won’t hurt anyone.

People that know me well, know I’m a metal fan with a strong dislike for Metallica.  However this album sounds pretty good.  I don’t know if I’d listen to it enough to buy it though?  Wait & see I guess.  Friday marks my end of purchasing music until after Christmas.  I have two preorders & then I’m done.  Apple Music until December 26th or 27th.  Metallica & Bruno Mars are the 2 releases I don’t have on preorder for that day.

To say I’m disappointed with the outcome of the election is not even close to how I feel.  I can’t change it or fix it.  This was a slam dunk for Hillary.  WWIII, it’s coming.  I’m more scared now than I’ve ever been.  Trump has been accused of sexual assault.  So has Bill Cosby.  I’d take Bill Cosby over Trump.  At least Bill Cosby gave us something, stand-up comedy, The Cosby Show, Kids say the Darndessed Things, &, Jell-O Pudding commercials.  What has Trump given you?  The Apprentice & a book.  I was nervous before, & now I’m terrified!  America just elected a terrorist as President.  Enjoy your 4 years of a worse George Bush Jr.!  I’ll be in my bomb shelter, see you in 4 years!  Even Stephen Colbert is close being speechless.

“I can’t believe the news today….”

I went out last night for a beer tasting.  I come home, try to relax, turn on the TV to see what I’d hoped to see, & drop my jaw that Trump is leading?  I changed the channel to see if anyone else is reporting the same stuff or if this was a mistake?  It wasn’t.  Watched some Netflix, Kim went to bed, I watched more election coverage, felt myself getting angry & went to bed.

I was watching TV after I posted my blog.  I was in the kitchen & heard an ad for “Tropical Orange Juice”.  I thought the ad was for “Trumpical Orange Juice” oh, did I have a good chuckle!  No wonder his complexion is orange!

I love “The Big Bang Theory” but I’m not sure if this spin-off would work, why mess with the chemistry?  Remember when “FRIENDS” ended & the very short spin-off called “Joey” that didn’t end well?

With all of the material available it, could have been worse than it was for Taylor Swift.

I’d do more but that’s a TON of links to load. Sorry if they double, I’ll try to fix them but no guarantee? My back is annoying but I increase my exercise to my “normal” total daily!

I fell asleep to 2 albums, the 2 most recent albums by “Candlebox” first “Love Stories & Other Musings” from 2012. Then the album “Disappearing in Airports” released in April of 2016. Woke up in the middle of the night to pee, gotta stop that, & put on “Chevelle” the new album “The North Corridor”

I exercised to “Portal” the album “Blood Red Tape” My brother was listening to them in his car when we were with him. I think he said they’re an independent group from Alberta?

They have 3 albums on iTunes at the moment. This is the only one I’ve purchased so far.

This is for anyone & everyone who might find this interesting! Please help me out if you don’t mind? I’ve been sharing this publically on my page, I don’t think it’s helping? Please do what you can to spread the word?

Brain cancer & ALS aren’t a competition. This is how I look at it though, in my situation. I could have survived or died because of brain cancer. I don’t know much about ALS. From what I know, it ends poorly, to put it lightly. Surviving brain cancer I can work on things, everything. You can look at that as overwhelming or just start somewhere & chip away at it as long as you can. ALS, from what I know, is more of a “OH MY GOODNESS! What’s going to go first?” Once it’s gone you can’t really do anything about it, that would be terrifying to me! Sure I felt overwhelmed & angry at first, but I’m alive, I can work on myself, mentally & physically. Eventually it COULD be fine? Sure the odds are stacked against me. Do you gamble? The odds are stacked against anyone in a casino playing any game. I’m alive, it could be worse.

I have to admit, after 2 weeks of just stretching & resting my back, it’s difficult to get back into my routine of exercise, food, blog, TV. For years that was easy, sweaty, but easy & somewhat gratifying. I had never enjoyed exercising, especially cardio! I can ride an exercise bike forever, walking with my walker seems like too much effort for very little gain to me. When I lived at my parents place the recumbent exercise bike was in the basement. I’d pop in a “Lord of the Rings” movie & pedal for 3 hours no problem, I can still bike for an hour or more.

I get that musicians want to share what influenced them by doing a cover song. I loved playing cover songs live! That meant I didn’t have to write lyrics, just remember better lyrics. Foo Fighters do this for the majority of their B Sides on singles. You get a single from the album, a live song & either a cover song or a song that was cut from the album. Here are some original songs followed by their cover song by someone else. Some are good, some are OK, some are terrible, & some are “OK, why mess with a classic?”

Almost forgot about this one!

^^All of this is just off the top of my head!

From the In Flames DVD www.amazon.ca says release on September 23rd.

With all of the hype about “Prophets of Rage” I got somewhat nostalgic & fell asleep to “Rage Against The Machine” their self titled album.

I exercised to first “Dream Theater” the album “Black Clouds & Silver Linings”

Did my squats to half of this one song, didn’t feel right. I changed it to “Genesis” their double album of greatest hits. Yes, I’m Christian, do I believe in televangelists? Good grief no! I couldn’t find the actual video. I found the intro for you!

I surpassed my goals for exercising today. Yesterday I achieved them. Monday I didn’t, but Tuesday it was “…a whole new world…”

I’ve never had the mind set of ‘Just get it done’. I do know though. No point in putting something off if you’re going to do it eventually?

I started watching “The Ranch” on Netflix yesterday. I’ve currently watched the first 4 episodes. I like it, it’s funny to me. Danny Masterson & Ashton Kutcher, better known as Hyde & Kelso from That 70s Show, play brothers mid 30 year old brothers who help out their father with his range………..then hilarity “follows”! LANGUAGE!!! IN THE TRAILER!!!! It got bad reviews but I checked it out regardless. That’s why a review from me is only “It’s good or terrible”. Whatever is on here whether I like it or not is for you to check out & see if you like it? I want to know what you’re into as well. Maybe I’ll like it, maybe I wont? It’s all pretty subjective. I don’t follow Canadian politics or vote. If you do that’s fine by me. For me, it’s boring & a waste of my time, if it’s interesting to you, that’s great! I watch a lot of the current campaign in the USA. It’s all that’s on sometimes & Trump has made it a circus, so it’s entertaining at times. I just want to be entertained. My age may be 36, but I have the mindset of a teen.

Why did “Alice Through The Looking Glass” flop at the box office? Could it be that Jonny Depp & Tim Burton together are becoming more than predictable & repetitive with each movie they do together? That’s my theory.

June 3rd, 10th, & 17th I’ll be getting a new album each of those days! “Tegan & Sara”, “Kongos, & “Stitched Up Heart”! June looks like a very good month to me!

A little bit of Finger Eleven’s album “Five Crooked Lines” over lunch!!!!

I thought the show was called “America’s Got Talent”? It’s funny but it will get old fast, I think? Unless he changes the act on a regular basis.

I exercised to “Foo Fighters” 60 B-Sides on shuffle. About half of their B-Sides are cover songs. Here’s 2 that are originals & one that is a cover of Pink Floyd.

Well the next one isn’t Foo Fighters. It’s Dave Grohl & Louise Post from “Veruca Salt”. Recorded for a soundtrack to a Jonny Depp movie called “Touch” that went nowhere fast in the late ’90s or early 2000s

Pink Floyd cover. Dave Grohl & drummer, Taylor Hawkins, switched so Taylor could just sing.

I get it so many people don’t care for baseball. I’m different, I’m Canadian yet the NHL has become nearly unwatchable for me. The only thing I see in hockey are people getting into fights. That’s exactly what the Blue Jay game turned into on Sunday. 2 bench & bullpen clearing fights between the Blue Jays & The Texas Rangers, the difference? It wasn’t 2 idiots on skates that one person landed a semi respectable punch on the opponent. It was 2 all morons on deck to fight over something that happened in October? Just let it go! It was a new world one second after Jose Bautista did his bat flip in the playoffs last year & Sunday 8 people got ejected because they had a hissy fit over something that happened last year? Here’s what happened in October followed by what occurred Sunday.

Texas was offended by that, it’s now 2016. Put on your big boy pants & get out of the 1950s. The game has changed. Somewhat for the worst and somewhat for the better. It happened & it’s over, yet they dig it up on Sunday?

Even if the analyst says “That’s how things are done”, well it’s not 2009 or earlier when he played the game. Heck he made it to the big leagues, I was no where remotely close to them when I played city league baseball at the age of 17 in 1997. That stuff is what I call “bush league baseball”. I never engaged in that stuff, however I had a team mate that was all about it. In my head I always thought “OK, do what you want & make yourself happy. None of us are coming out to fight your battles for you”. He wasn’t someone I wanted anything to do with.

On Sunday, I watched numerous MILLIONAIRES play a GAME, throw a temper TANTRUM over something that happened in 2015? That’s more than a little RIDICULOUS to me.

Kim & I are both burnt out. We both have tunnel vision, which isn’t necessarily a good thing. We’re both burning the candle at both ends. We need a break, not a stay cation. We need go somewhere & relax. Yet the money tree disagrees. We might visit family in Canada. We let our passports expire after we went yo Boston in the summer of 2007. Bottom line we’re both tired.

I had to do a few chores so of course I turned on some music”Clutch”, “Big Wreck”, & “Genesis”.

Do you have any highly anticipated releases coming your way in June? I have 2 but they’re not on this list.

I exercised to “David Bowie’s Greatest Hit’s” 20 songs on this album & it’s hard to pick one that stands out!

This week’s total for exercising! “Dim the lights……& here we go!!! 1650 crunches, 210 squats, 60 push ups, & 60 leg lifts.

Yep it’s on Facebook if you prefer.

This got longer than I had hoped. If you like you can blast down to the music news, read my condensed life story at the top here or read it all? It’s up to you?

I’m 36 years old & my birthday has passed already this year. On Sunday, February 3rd 2008, I was shoveling snow in our back yard. I stopped for the shortest & most painful headache I’ve ever experienced. My wife, the ow so FANTASTIC Kim saw me sitting down while holding/pressing the back of my head while grimacing.

I went to work on Monday after missing the previous week with the flu. Everything was fine on Monday, business as usual. Tuesday, February 5th 2008, 6 days after my 28th birthday, I went to work & felt fine. I worked at Impact Printers as a press operator. During my first or second job of the day I stopped to gather myself, something didn’t feel right. 2 of my coworkers came over & said I looked very pale. I felt fine physically. Seconds later I sat down on the side catwalk of the printing press. I then laid down (neither of those things ever happen). I shouted for one of my coworkers to call 911, I needed the EMT right away.

The last thing I remember was that Kim’s boss had brought her to Impact Printers since Kim & I had carpooled & I had the car with me. She came into the back of the ambulance & then I blacked out. I was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery as I had been diagnosed with stage 4 brain cancer.

For the rest of 2008 I basically slept 23 hours a day, waking up only for pain medication & physiotherapy sessions.

I moved to the Wascana Rehabilitation Center for a more intense physiotherapy program after being declared cancer free by the doctors on December 31st 2008.

I moved to the WRC a few months into early 2009. For roughly 3.5 years of physio, occupational, & exercise therapy. I had a stint where I also did some music therapy! At some point I was up to 17 therapy sessions a week. I was discharged from WRC in late July of 2012. To this day I exercise for roughly an hour a day. My cancer experience was different than others who have had different types of cancer.

I don’t remember much if anything of 2008. Luckily I remember a few “good times” during that year and not the pain I was in, like when I had my first of 7 cortisone shots into my spine. I do remember getting to see my dog while in a sun room, family & friends coming to visit me, everybody making exceptions for Kim to stay with me in a very uncomfortable cot beside my bed the entire time we were sleeping in any hospital, calling for the paratransit bus to go to a concert in town. Kim’s world stopped for me, she didn’t have to do that for me but I’m glad she did. I didn’t want anybody’s life to stop because I was in a hospital.

At the age of 4 my parents put me in T ball. One practice & one game later I asked to be put in real baseball. From 4-17 years of age I played real baseball a few years with pitching machines, then real pitchers. I wasn’t great by any stretch of the imagination but I wasn’t terrible either.

My entire life was like that I didn’t practice or study much for anything, if I was good enough at something, I never really tried to be the best at it. I did however practice piano, flute, & studied for chemistry. I was just scraping by with a D- every year I took chemistry. Physics? I had no problem with physics or biology in high school.

I took 2 years of piano lessons while in elementary school. My parents bought a fancy electronic piano since we lived in an apartment when I was young & I could play it at a quiet volume. I grade 6 I joined the school band, playing flute until mid way through grade 10. The choir director needed more male voices. At this point I wasn’t really interested in playing anything in our high school band, but my father made me sign a contract that said I’d play flute until grade 10. A guy playing flute, yes I got a lot of flack for that from other students in high school. Choir was a way out for me & still counted for a credit on my transcript! It boosted my average as well, you got a 95% average if you never skipped a rehearsal that was twice a week over the lunch period. We got 15-20 minutes to eat our lunch then go to rehearsal.

After high school I went straight to the U of R & enrolled in engineering. I went to the U of R for 3 semesters. Engineering for 2 semesters, then a semester of random classes to figure out what I wanted to do exactly. I joined a rock cover band with 3 friends in engineering. I got my first guitar for my 21st birthday. I was already pegged as the lead singer in the 3 or 4 bands I joined, so I figured out how to play guitar. No formal lessons, books & online stuff. I was never fast enough on guitar to be the lead guitarist, so I played rhythm guitar & sang.

I couldn’t play baseball anymore since I threw out my arm when I was 17 playing on the high school team & the city team. So I picked up guitar, singing, & being in a band as a hobby. When the 4 of us started a band in university, we had a rule. If one of us wasn’t bleeding by the end of a show, we weren’t satisfied with our performance

Why am I telling this story again? There’s spring training baseball on TV this afternoon!!!!

Kim & I met at SIAST in Regina when I enrolled in September of 2001. We were just friends for almost a year. April 4th 2002 we had our first date. We went out for lunch at Boston Pizza. Shortly after we started dating, I played with our cover band to the biggest audience I had ever seen at “Beerfest” in the University put on by the Engineering students. 500 people, the place was packed. That’s likely the reason Kim calls me the human iPod we played about 30 cover songs & wrote 7 originals. I wrote 3 & our lead guitarist wrote 4. I grew to really hate 2 of the 3 songs I wrote. I wrote 1 acoustic song that I liked, the other 2 I couldn’t care less about.

I proposed to Kim in the spring of 2004 we were married May 7th, 2005. In all honesty she’s perfect but I’ a genius………………….wait…………………that came out wrong………….maybe it’s the other way around? Everything was fine until we hit that road bump in 2008. Nobody else can “fix me”, only I can & that’s how I got to where I am now. I workout 5 days a week, I’m in a wheelchair, & I listen to as much music as possible.

Kim & I watch a TON of TV, probably more than we should. When Kim comes home from work we watch Ellen that I record in the afternoon everyday. I watch Conan & Jimmy Fallon, I record them & watch them the next day. I like Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel, James Corden, & Seth Myers. I just don’t have time to watch them. We, mostly me, watch a butt load of other stuff as well! I like John Oliver as well but HBO is $20/month for 3 channels, too much moola for that.

Here are a few of my favourite songs in no particular order.

OK, so it isn’t as short as I had hoped. I’ve been working on this throughout the week. Here’s your Pop Culture news. Thanks also for reading this blog. It means something to me? The majority of this is stuff I want to know about, so I thought I’d let others in on the words I barf out like verbal diarrhea.
