Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

Exercise total for 5 days.

500 Curls w/ 20 pound dumb bells

300 Shoulder raises/Chest presses w/ 10 pound dumb bells

1050 Crunches

1050 Leg lifts

300 Squats

600 Back flexes

I’m going to stop writing this stuff at the end of 2021 or one post into 2022.  I’m getting pretty bored of writing this stuff.  I live it & regurgitate it to you & I’m pretty “simple” to begin with.  Eat, exercise, eat, shower, eat, play guitar, eat, play more guitar, have supper, watch TV, play guitar, sleep & repeat.

I’ll buy the PRS S2 McCarty 594 a soon as I have the cash.  When I order the PRS S2 McCarty 594, I’ll have to wait at least 6 months for it.  Then save and repeat but the wait might not be as long?  I’m excited to get any guitar but when I have the money (in a few years) & order this guitar, it’ll feel like another level!  I’m not undermining the importance and flexibility of other guitars I own, but this PRS S2 model is said to be THE guitar in the PRS S2 line!

After a TON of thought, the Schecter Tempest, although I REALLY liked the majority of what it offers, might be too similar in sound with a few less features compared to the McCarty 594.  I’ve also realized that I’m not a huge fan of the Stratocaster body shape, so as I was searching throughout last week & this gem kept showing up & won me over with a MUCH more different sound & MUCH lower price tag (less than $650 after tax), despite this purchase being many years away.

Go ahead guitar gear heads, it says “Squier” instead of anything else.  I’m not paying a ton of cash for a bigger brand name.  I’ve got a Fender & a PRS S2, good enough for me! Hopefully the split coil on the McCarty 594 is as good as they say.  A full on hollow body will be completely different from ANYTHING I have and be a great ending chapter to my guitar purchasing…if it’s still around.

I tried to force ‘guitar mojo’ on a Stratocaster, but that never works.  Had to be exactly what I wanted because I don’t want to shop for another guitar.  Guitars give me FOMO, fear of missing out, since I don’t have a disposable income for anything let alone guitars, so if they go out of production before I save the money to buy it, I get kinda sad.  I guess these purchases are more of a hopeful occurrence in the future.

Other than it being very cold in Regina this week, it’s been a good satisfying week of exercise.  Some ‘communication breakdowns’ getting all of my refills from the doctor to the pharmacy, but we got it figured out by the time I needed everything.

The Covid active cases are on decline throughout the province of Saskatchewan since January 12th.  As per the restrictions, nothing changes until further notice on February 19th.  I guess that’s fine, I would prefer tighter restrictions but I’m not a politician?

As I’ve said many times before, I really watch a miniscule amount of TV & I missed “The Ellen Degeneres Show” on her birthday show.  New DVR, so I don’t know if it was me, a user problem, or if something went wonky with the DVR box?

Right now I’m playing a handful of songs by “Pearl Jam”.

I’m continuously running through these “Stone Temple Pilots” song as well & other stuff too.  Keeps me busy.

The music I like is mostly from the 1990s, there’s usually some “Soundgarden”, “Alice in Chains”, “Rage Against the Machine”, “Audioslave”, & always “Foo Fighters”, etc. being played on guitar here.  Then as far as a little bit of metal goes “Metallica”, “Megadeth”, “In Flames, “Trivium” and eventually some “Lamb of God”.  For the 7 string it’s “Trivium” a dash of “Dream Theater” and I like coming up with stuff on the 7 string.

We’re watching TV Thursday evening.  Kim picks out a documentary & instantly grabs her cell as usual, & it drives me nutz!  I said to her, as I always do “You’re not even watching your show?”  I get the usual reply from her “I’m listening”.  Then I caught her with “But the show is subtitled and in Swedish?”  BOOM!

April 30th marks the 3rd album titled ‘Typhoons’ from “Royal Blood” who released a video for the title track!

It’s only Saturday & I’ve been playing my 7 string only.  I finally got it figured out.  I was using it just to learn songs, I only learned a few simple 7 string songs.  I’m just coming up with my own stuff and thinking “Ooooh, I like that!”  I took a break, at 4:30 pm, to play some other guitars & help Kim put our living room back together.  Then more 7 string action!  I did learn a “Dream Theater” riff, not the entire song.  I’ve never been or tried to be a progressive metal player, or a student at the Berkley School of Music like “Dream Theater” or “Big Wreck”.  Had to make the 7 string work for me, although this was fun to learn!  Kim was still putting the living room together on Sunday.  It’s usually better if I stay out of the way with my wheelchair.  So I came into this room and spent the entire day playing & practicing guitar, it’s what I spend my free time doing.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to own this Schecter guitar, there’s nothing I don’t like about it!  Kim asked me how many tunings there are for a guitar last week.  Well there’s typically 6 strings on a guitar with the musical alphabet of A-G sharp.  This guy explains tunings better than I could.

So in the video he covers down tuning & drop tuning.  I like to play in open tunings, different standard tunings, flat tunings, a fusion tuning, & a very small handful of alternate tunings.  My 7 string will stay in flat tuning for a 7 string, and anything can easily do a drop tuning.

The ultimate guitar tab site lists 19 tunings for 6 string guitars.  Then you have baritone & soprano guitars, well as 7, 8, 9, & 10 string guitars.  Anything beyond one 7 string guitar is a little much for me.

I’m no Ian Thornley, Jimmy Page, Mark Tremonti, Myles Kennedy, Mike McCready, Stone Gossard, Kim Thayill, Dimebag Darrell, John Petrucci, Steve Vai, etc.

https://www.schecterguitars.com/guitars/custom/tempest-custom-vwht-1-detail

I’ve seen and played a TON of other guitars.  I pretty much stumbled on to the Schecter Tempest, it called out to me & said “Please take me to your home???”  If Kim has taught me anything, it’s to listen, pay attention, and act!  So I’ve listened & paid attention, now I just need to shake Kim upside down & rummage through the couch to see if there’s guitar money hiding somewhere for the Schecter, PRS S2, and the Squier.  I’m pretty sure Kim’s pockets aren’t that deep & we haven’t had anyone rich or famous over because of Covid….yeah, I’m gonna go with Covid on that one….this has NOTHING to do with the fact that we don’t know anyone rich or famous at all.

I remember seeing a wall in a warehouse full of the guitars for “Pearl Jam” in a magazine.  There had to be at least 70 guitar cases in that photo.  Each guitar case had a piece of tape on it with the tuning of the guitar inside.  If you ever see “Big Wreck” live, there’s a guitar rack or 4 with 15 different guitars, you can usually tell how many songs they’ll play if you can count the guitars on the rack.  I think they have one song in standard tuning, 2 songs in drop D flat, & one in standard flat over 6 albums.  When I was younger (20s) I tuned my guitar to an open “C” tuning, I learned the intro to one Big Wreck song, just after I started playing guitar.  It took me a week to figure out the intro, I was not so SMRT.

This Schecter is cheaper to purchase than the pretty blue PRS S2, but it just wouldn’t be the same.  I grappled with that a LOT last week.  Kim even liked the Schecter guitar, that’s rare, she never makes a positive comment on ANY guitar.  My dream guitars (PRS Core models of Paul’s Guitar, Mark Tremonti PRS Core & Dave Grohl’s DG-335 by Gibson) are beyond the realm of possibility for me.  I’ve been thinking about the Schecter for too long to just dismiss it.  There’s always another Squier Stratocaster, they aren’t as appealing as this one is to me, but I personally don’t value any Stratocaster as much as I do the Schecter Tempest.  I’ll buy the PRS S2 McCarty 594 followed by the Schecter Tempest.  In the sound clips I heard, the Schecter coil splitting actually seems to make a “sonic” difference.  I’ve been told it’s a healthier hobby by a friend of mine that plans to buy a nice BBQ grill.  It may be true, but Kim disagrees, as far as finances go.

This Squier is not a traditional looking Stratocaster while being under $700 even after tax, with stuff you don’t see on a guitar under $1500 retail.  The shape, wood & 3 single coil pickups are the only traditional aspects of this Stratocaster.  The colour, pickup configuration, roasted maple neck & fret board & a flatter fret board than I’ve ever seen on a Fender or Squier model, & painted headstock are all stand outs on this guitar.  If I wanted a Squier, I could get a Squier for $349 or even $250.  I know I’d prefer the Schecter.

I’m really tired of shopping online for different guitars.  I have no plans or desire to continue researching & buying any guitars, EVER.  I don’t like shopping in person or online.  This decision comes as a complete relief for me.  I guess I also saw the Epiphone Prophecy series before any final guitars, but they didn’t interest me.

I don’t want a guitar to go untouched for more than a week or ½ a week, which is VERY achievable right now!  I’ve probably passed this point already to most people, but I don’t want to come off as greedy either.  That being said I spend VERY little money on anything else now other than $5000 a year until 2030 for my RDSP that I can’t withdraw from until 2040.  I’m in the long haul for the PRS S2 as it is & a shorter but still long haul for the Schecter.  I’m just done looking into the specifications of any guitar.  I know what I want to buy & I don’t want to look anymore.

I know that I’ll be tuning guitars to other tunings, but at least they’ll be in the neighborhood of the same tuning.  I really don’t want my guitars to have the same “…colour & shape…” tuning, pickup brands, manufacturer, etc.

I torture myself watching videos like this of Core & Private stock models of PRS guitars that are $5500 & more.  This is an instrument store in the U.K. that I watch on occasion for gear demos of new products.  S2 line of PRS in Canada is a high enough price for me and most other guitarists.

I do find that I watch far less of this stuff now that I’ve decided on what I’d like to buy & what I already have.  I do enter a free lottery for a guitar if I come across something that I know any family members or any good friends would like, and of course are playing guitar.

I was thinking of selling something for a guitar, then I realized that I have nothing I would sell, other than 2 large bins of DVDs & Blu-rays that we don’t need to keep.  We did keep 1 ½ bins of our favourite movies & TV series.

I didn’t sleep much Sunday night & ended up sleeping in longer than I’d like on Monday.  Monday just after noon it was nap time for an hour. Woke up before 2:00 pm & played more guitar.  I slept WAY better last night after this decision of figuring out which guitar will bring me more happiness.  Probably not the best bang for my money, but better for me in the end.

I saw a survey on the local news here in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada around the time of Joe Biden’s inauguration.  The survey asked “Do you follow American politics?”  I laughed and said out loud “Yeah, it’s roughly 85% of your new cast!”

I haven’t listened to “Muse” in a long time.  I should fix that & eventually learn a few “Muse” songs on guitar.

I guess the singer for “TOOL”, “A Perfect Circle”, & “Puscifer”, Maynard James Keenan, got Covid in March & it has left him with lung damage.  I’m not expecting to see his return to singing now and we waited 13 years for the final “TOOL” album on their contract.  They did release 7 songs on their album, each song was over 7:00 minutes long, that’s nice.  I do prefer listening to a full album instead of single releases.  Although finding the time to focus on a lengthy album is getting hard to do.

To be clear about this, I don’t have a home studio.  I have no camera, cell phone, or audio recording device.  If I come up with a good sounding guitar line, I play it many times to remember it.  “The Beatles” only recorded stuff if they could remember it the next day, so I kind of operate the same way…I just don’t sound like The Beatles.  Any photos or videos on here or Facebook are courtesy of Kim & her cell phone.

I was missing a sleeping pill last night.  I take 2 different pills, one to make me fall asleep faster than my typical 3 or 4 hours of tossing & turning in bed.  The other keeps me asleep.  We missed getting a refill yesterday on the pill that keeps me asleep.  I woke up close to 3:00 am & finally decided to give up on trying to fall asleep at 5:00 am & got up to do my exercises.

My guitar came in Tuesday afternoon.  First impressions, DAMN it’s pretty!  I’ve honestly never played a guitar right out of the box that needs no adjustment.  I tuned it and it was ready to go.  Even just the tuning buttons were INCREDIBLY smooth.  I had HIGH expectations for it, & the S2 PRS greatly exceeded them!

Luckily I missed recording the baseball game Tuesday evening.  I caught the last 2 innings since I was busy playing my new guitar.  After my exercises are done & I’ve showered, I play it all of the time.

I was just about to play guitar after my shower on Tuesday & figured I should check my email.  I had an email confirming my guitar was in & ready for me to pick up.  My brother picked me up & we went to the store.  I tuned it & I’ve been playing it as much as possible since.  Playing it (unplugged) even while watching Blue Jays baseball in the evening.  I hate having to stop playing it!  I wish you could see it in person, the photo just doesn’t compare.

I’ve played 3 guitars in my life that made me think “Why aren’t all guitars made this way?”  My friend’s hollow body Gretsch guitar in the summer, my Epiphone 7 string that Kim got me for my 40th birthday at the end of January, & my new PRS S2.  The hype is real!!!!!

…and now I’d like to introduce you to “Sunny”!  PRS S2 Semi-hollow Custom.

Having this PRS S2 Custom 22 only solidifies my desire for the S2 McCarty 594.  Last guitar purchase, followed by that amplifier & footswitch.

If you care to watch.  These are the different bridges they use on guitars at PRS, as shown by Paul Reed Smith.  Sunny has a tremolo bridge, and the one I plan to order has a 2 piece stop tail bridge.

If we find a house next year, the amplifier & footswitch are put on hold.  Well come June 1st of 2021 EVERYTHING stops for the hope of finding a house!  The amplifier & footswitch will have to wait.

If I ever got my hands on a Core Tremonti PRS with a HUGE (90% off) discount, that would be hard to pass up.  This S2 PRS is beautiful.  I’m over the moon with everything on this guitar!  Here’s that SUPER nice Mark Tremonti Core PRS, not in the typical black.

A Core PRS goes for $3,800 US, which is $6,574 + tax in Canada.  I used to say $5000 was my limit for a guitar, not anymore.  It’s far less than that or even the USA price for Core model, I just paid my limit for a guitar.  The final order is less expensive than what I have, it’s still very close to my limit.

“Sunny” is a lower priced S2 PRS guitar.  The quality is unmatched to any guitar I’ve ever played.  The downside & the upside of it is that we paid a lot for it & it REALLY impresses me.  So it’s VERY nice but it does have a large price tag.  One more S2 and I’m literally spent!

I do watch some TV other than baseball.  The Ellen Degeneres Show, A Late Show with Stephen Colbert, & about 3 other scripted shows that aren’t on TV right now.  Prodigal Son, The Resident, & Mom.  No matter what show I’m watching, there’s a guitar in my hands!

GO DR. FAUCI GO!

Why is Donald Trump EVERYWHERE?  If Biden wins the election, things could get messy when he moves into the White House.

This week I’ve been playing stuff I know the basic chord progression of while making it more distinct playing lead stuff instead on the new guitar “Sunny”.

I’ve been listening to a 20th anniversary reissue of the first self-titled Into Eternity album that I got on CD.  “Into Eternity” describe themselves as extreme progressive metal.  I think of them as death metal meets the harmonies of “Queen”, that’s HIGH-PRAISE in my books.  Good luck finding a CD other than through the Regina based band that until recently only had the files for the album.  Into Eternity are the Regina heroes that are still underground despite having toured or played with big name acts such as “Motorhead”, “Megadeth”, “Lamb of God”, “Opeth” & I believe “Dream Theater”.  I thik it was last year or 2018 they released their 6th studio album.  The last 5 albums should be available everywhere.  I bought 3 of them at HMV when it was open & managed to get the 6th album on amazon where you can find all of their albums now!

Back on track this week.  The news REALLY bummed me out last week.  I got up yesterday & got back into my exercise routine.  I really don’t like wasting week days that aren’t scheduled days off by not exercising.  My food & water consumption didn’t change though, so that’s a bonus.  Yesterday I managed to get a few more crunches in, we’ll see if I can keep that trend up?

This morning was a weird exercise.  I got out of bed when Kim did & I don’t think my body has ever made that much noise!  EVERYTHING was popping & cracking.  Got down on the floor to stretch & do yoga, & again EVERYTHING popped & cracked.  My muscles were VERY tight.  So of course I was an idiot and added to each repetition of lifting weights, not sure I’m there yet.

I wrote a bunch of this & realized that I don’t have to justify my purchases with my money.  I’m saving for that guitar & hope to order it in February since there’s 3-15 month delay on it.  Then I’ll continue saving for the amplifier & footswitch.  I’ll probably have the amplifier before the guitar arrives?

Had I thought this through last year, I’d likely have the amplifier & footswitch by now.  It’s a 50 Watt amplifier that can switch to 25 Watts & 0.5 Watts (quieter/digital) for in an apartment or condo while still producing the same type of sound you’d get from a loud amplifier.  I always wanted a tube amp before, but they were just too much in price for me.  This will be comparable to a tube amp, but still not the same.  It also connects to the internet, that’s not gonna happen here.  I don’t need someone trying to mess with an amplifier!!??!?

https://www.long-mcquade.com/154076/Guitars/Guitar-Amps/Boss/Katana-50-MkII-Combo-Amplifier.htm

If we find a house & are able to sell our condo, those purchases will be pushed back to a more appropriate time.

It’s going to be November soon & in Canada that’s when we pause to honour our veterans for all they’ve sacrificed for us.  I know we’ll be getting a call from the legion asking for a donation.  If a cause I support calls looking for a donation, I’d be more than happy to help out, but I can’t.  I hate that I’m going to have to turn them down because I’m saving my pennies for myself, that’s when I feel greedy, selfish, & ashamed.

Just because I can’t donate financially doesn’t mean we don’t donate.  When I gained weight & couldn’t fit into my clothing it was donated to homeless shelters, the Salvation Army, the Diabetes foundation, a second hand store, I used to donate blood when I could before cancer.  When I lost a bunch of weight we did the same thing again by donating clothes to various charities.

I’ve never had a raspberry beret to donate to a second hand store…

Rough week last week, & got worse when the week ended.  I love that there was a March on Washington, I just hate that it had to happen & it will likely fall on deaf ears, politically.

Stayed up past midnight on Saturday to watch the baseball game I had recorded earlier that day & practice guitar unplugged.  Got up shortly after 7:00 am Sunday & made my food for the week ahead.  With baseball on, I don’t get to practice as much guitar on the weekends.  I watch the games on the couch while casually strumming my acoustic guitar.  The little bit that I got to play electric I focused on a few scales, tremolo picking, & these 2 songs are getting better all the time.  I’m focusing more on the lead part for the chorus of “Alive” since I don’t sing.  If I was singing I’d strum the 4 chords.

This song by Our Lady Peace isn’t nearly as challenging as I anticipated.  It just looked odd at first.

I googled songs with 7 string guitar parts in them to learn.  Trivium, Dream Theater, Korn, Sevendust, etc.  I learn those & songs done in baritone guitar tuning.  I’ve got 2 baritone songs already and one Trivium song, so I’m off to the metal & lead guitar world.  Figured that I don’t just want to do the same stuff I did before cancer & that I should improve my guitar skills.

I’m going bald from my “disappearing hairline” & I’m a little thin on the top back portion of my head.  I hope they meet in the middle or I’ll have a weird stripe of hair in the middle of my head.

The beer sealers we ordered at the beginning of June from amazon got here yesterday.  Now my straps are secured on my guitars.  Just waiting for the guitar I ordered in January and I need to change the strings on other guitars very soon, some of them need a good cleaning too.

S2 Custom 22 Semi-Hollow Body Guitar w/Gig Bag - McCarty Sunburst

What I don’t understand about PRS guitars.  The Canadian dollar is at $0.77 to a full USA dollar.  A core model PRS guitar, made in Maryland, USA (not what I’d ever spend on a guitar) retails for $2300 up in America.  In Canada it’s about $3000 more, so roughly $5300 retail.  That’s pretty accurate, but there is NO WAY I’d come close to spending $5300 on a guitar plus the %11 tax in total here in Saskatchewan!

I hate watching our southern neighbors going through this stuff.

The solo/instrumental album by John Petrucci of Dream Theater is REALLY good & I’m still on an “Opeth” kick, listening to the “Ghost Reveries” album.  I’m liking Rancid, I’m not a huge fan of punk music.  Rancid seem to be right up my alley though!

I fell asleep to “Queen” the album “A Day at the Races”

I exercised to “Black Sabbath” the album “Heaven & Hell”

I had a list of albums that I grabbed this year, & it disappeared.  These are the albums of the year that stuck with me & are VERY memorable for me.  When I say “metal” do me a favour & don’t freak out about the vocals.  I don’t think I bought an album this year with ‘growling’ or ‘screaming’ on it.  A lot of metal vocalists are very well trained at their craft, even the ‘screamers’ out there.  It’s hard to do that.

I’m sure there were more albums that I bought, but these are the ones that caught my attention the most.

PLEASE REMEMBER THESE ARE JUST THE ALBUMS THAT I HEARD & LIKED.  FEEL FREE TO VOICE YOUR OPINION ON ANY MATTER HERE!

“Opeth” the album “In Cauda Venenum”

Yeah it’s a progressive rock/metal/soft-rock album from the Swedish group.

“P!nk” the album “Hurts 2B Human”

You know who she is more than likely.  I do like her previous release “Beautiful Trauma” a bit more, but there was nothing wrong with this one!

“Dream Theater” the album “Distance Over Time”

Progressive metal out of the USA, no this guy doesn’t growl or scream.  He’s a classically trained singer.  Usually someone says “metal” and everyone else freaks out about the vocals being scary.

“Alter Bridge” the album “Walk the Sky”

Based in Florida.  6th album & living in Western Canada, I’ll never see them live.  I think they’ve done the Montreal & Toronto tour twice since 2004.

“I Built the Sky” the album “The Zenith Rise”

Instrumental metal that REALLY shocked me, in a good way.  I’ve never heard anything like it and this is their 5th release.  I’ve got this album & I’d like to get 2 other albums by them.

“TOOL” the album “Fear Inoculum”

The only reason this wasn’t my favourite album of the year was that it’s just SO long.  “TOOL” is a band that you listen to & focus on nothing else, like most music is meant to be heard.  There are so many layers to this album & 6/10 songs are well over the 10 minute mark.  I’ve only had time to focus on it once.  It’s not an album full of singles either, it’s an album.  “Fear Inoculum” is roughly 7 minutes longer than their 1999 album “Lateralus”.  The difference is that “Lateralus” has 13 songs opposed to 10 on “Fear Inoculum”.  I can listen to 7 songs on “Lateralus”, come back later & listen to the rest.  I don’t like doing that with “Fear Inoculum”, I want to listen to it from start to finish with no separation.  I don’t have 1 ½ hours to focus on an album every week?

“In Flames” the album “I, The Mask”

Another Swedish metal band.  If you want to call these vocals “screamy” go ahead.  They’re called a “Swedish melodic death metal band” emphasis on the ‘melodic’ portion though.  He sings with an odd tone.

“Big Wreck” the album “…but for the sun”

I thought this was just my favourite “Big Wreck” album, turns out it’s one of my favourite albums of all time by a Canadian band not well known outside of Canada.  They’re a rock band & if you’ve never turned on a rock radio station in Canada or if you’ve lived under a rock since the late 1990s, you’ve never heard of them.

Honourable mentions. Billie Eilish’s “When we all fall asleep, where do we go?”, “Of Monsters & Men” the album “Fever Dream”, Mark Morton “Anesthetic”, & “Jimmy Eat World” the album “Surviving”.

As for future out of province concerts, I’m going to scale that WAY back.  Too much money I don’t have.  There had better be a show in Calgary, Alberta or Winnipeg, Manitoba & no more than 2 out of province shows a year, if that.  Hopefully there are more shows here in Regina or 2 ½ hours away in Saskatoon.  I’ll go to Moose Jaw (45 minutes away) if they ever get an act that intrigues me.

“Paramore” news…

YAY!

What else to expect in 2020?  Chevelle, Lamb of God, Megadeth, The Pretty Reckless, Stone Temple Pilots, Into Eternity, Third Ion, Foo Fighters, Evanescence, Testament, Trivium, and more?  Most of these are rumored releases.

HOLY SMOKES!!!!  “Stone Temple Pilots” already have a preorder for their acoustic album “Perdida” for full release on February 7th.

25th anniversary for “Foo Fighters” & from the looks of their Facebook page they’re recording or might have already?

Gave my guitars a good workout yesterday.  After 3 ½ months of 45 minutes to 3 hours a day, 5-6 days a week I’m pretty much back to where I was on guitar when I got sick.  6 Foo Fighters songs down, added in parts I’ve never attempted, very close on 2 Metallica songs, a few other simple songs down, new chords, a handful of other riffs too.  All rhythm & hooks, I’ve never played guitar solos.  Feels so gratifying!!!!!!!  I forgot how much I missed it!  You have no idea how happy I am with this!!!!!!  I was so happy I almost broke down with tears of joy!!!  Just a few seconds behind the real tempo but just a little more polishing to do.

I’ll figure out how to put some videos on here.  Something you should know first though.  I LOATHE photos, videos, and audio recordings of myself.  Take the amount you don’t like them of yourself and multiply that by 100,000,000,000 and you’ll be almost where I am.  It probably won’t happen often, especially since I don’t own a phone or any type of camera.

Well, exercise is done for the day so that means perfecting a few songs on the guitar until… “Star Wars” Episode 9 tonight with my pop!  He got me into this mess with VHS, now I’m getting us out of this mess at the theater!

If you’re getting this through Facebook, give it a like or other reaction, or share it.  That’s the only way of promoting this site, since I’m not profiting from this in any way.

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

I had no intension of taking a break, exercise wise, over the holidays.  I changed my mind after the week off in November.  My sleeping pattern does not like all of this stress.  So I was awake half of the night Sunday, slept in Monday, felt lazy & tired ended up doing nothing.  Went to bed at 9:30 pm Monday night.  Got up to pee at 2:40 am, couldn’t fall asleep.  Got out of bed @ 3:20 am and did some stuff in the kitchen quietly.  Felt really tired around 8:30 am, crawled in bed.  Showered, had lunch & it was 2:30 pm.

All of this is not good for me.  My mind hasn’t known how to relax in the last 3 years or so, & it’s getting worse.  When I was in my rehabilitation program I was severely depressed & was put on an anti-depressant/sleeping pill to combat the negative thoughts in my head so I could sleep.  I’m not having negative thoughts now, I just feel like I have so much to do, but my body doesn’t want to keep up.  With the house being listed, its holiday season, & I put stress on myself to get as much done in a day as possible, I’m tired, a bit grumpier than usual & generally feel like I’m just wasting days by not exercising.

I hate having our house listed.  I’m physically handicapped with no driver’s license but when someone wants to see our place, Brewster & I have to disappear for the 30-45 minutes someone’s here.  Much easier said than done.  My parents are in town until they go on a trip about a week in to the New Year.  Then Kim will have to get us out of here.  With her being on contract, she doesn’t like to take time off since she doesn’t get paid if she’s not at work.  With all of that going on I’m more stressed than ever.  I’m not depressed or crying (like I was in my Rehab program), however I do feel anxious all of the time.

I guess we can add the fact that my brother has another surgery coming up shortly after Christmas.  The first one wasn’t enough.  I worry about him too.  He had back surgery for bone spurs on his shoulders that were causing his arms & hands to go numb at random times, 5 months of disability & some of that doing physiotherapy.  He went back to work for 2 weeks of shortened shifts & he’ll be heading to Saskatoon for a 2nd surgery, this time through the front of his body, because the numbing sensation came back.  Between my dad, mom, brother, & I, we’ve all had some type of surgery.  My parents have both had eye surgeries, mom’s had one knee replaced & soon another, my brother is dealing with his back surgeries, & I’ve had 3 brain surgeries.

As for the house being on the market, at this point I’ve lost all hope of the stars aligning for us to sell & find a new (wheelchair accessible) place in Regina in our price range.  They’re completely gone at the moment.  Our contract is up on December 31st.  I told Kim “Do what you want.  I’m out, I’m not looking.  If I need to disappear, that’s not my problem.  I figure we could be here for 5 more years, & I just don’t care.  We have nowhere to move to.  The entire reason we put this place up for sale was for a forever home that sold 3 weeks after we hit the market.  The contract at that time was to remove our place from the market if our dream house sold, & it did.  I’m out.  I’m not going to stop you or our realtor from looking, I’ll willingly see a house you find, but I’m not searching for something that is likely not there at the moment.  I’ll start house hunting online again in March”.  We’ve lowered the price once & that’s as low as its going.

As of today it is 6 years to the day that we moved into this condo.  Nothing wrong with this place, we’re just much younger than the average resident here.  My parents are young & I’m guessing they’re younger than the average person here?  I’d like to move, but I don’t see things working out for us in the near future.

We signed our mortgage papers at the bank on Monday, my name is on it but Kim handles the money here.  I saw what our mortgage payment is each month, & I’m thinking that guitar I was going to order is better off at the factory.  Kim disagrees still?  I don’t know what I was thinking to begin with now.  I cancelled my football tickets for next year, which is what I’d prefer to happen in for many different reasons, then wanted to buy a really nice/moderately expensive guitar?  The guitar’s still up for discussion despite me having a decent portion of the money already.

Everyone’s Christmas gifts have been purchased & are wrapped under the tree.  That stress is over.  What’s bugging me now is that I have possibly 30 years of exercise to cram in ASAP.  Even then I’ll likely be using a walker.  I’m disappointing myself.  Especially if I’m sitting around, doing nothing but thinking of what I need to do.

As for eating & drinking over the holidays, not much has changed in that department.  We drink store bought non-alcoholic light egg nog.  I occasionally put it in the few coffees I have a week & I’ve had 2 glasses of ½ egg nog, ½ skim milk, with a shot of Kahlua.  After the 8(?) Holiday sweets I’ve had so far, I’ve determined they just make me feel sick & I don’t need them.  So I’m basically still drinking a minimum of 3 liters of water a day, 2 eggs a piece of fruit & homemade vegetable juice for breakfast, lettuce wraps w/Turkey deli meat for lunch & a small meal at supper.  I also have 3 small snacks a day.

In the spirit of trying to help people out I’m helping a couple people learn guitar with me.  I know what to do, just have to get my left hand used to it again.  No I’ve never charged anyone.  I was ‘teaching’ two friends before cancer, so I figured I’d help a couple people out again.  I don’t charge anyone because A) They’re friends/family   B) I’m just a singer that learned guitar to be more comfortable on stage, my knowledge is very limited.  I’m happy to say that I can tell that there’s progress every day.

I was always a rhythm guitarist, but I’ve been doing mostly individual finger exercises & different scale patterns on the guitar to strengthen my hand.  It helped!  Things are getting much better!  Figured out the main guitar riff for this, wasn’t able to play it before cancer, I probably didn’t try enough.

Right hand rhythm works fine, left hand fretting needs some work, but it’s getting there!  More guitar practice as things are becoming more familiar with it.  Practice on the acoustic then play it on the electric.

One good night of sleep & today I got up on time, had a good workout and was able to manage my time better!  I plan to keep exercising next week, it will likely be a day or 3 of shortened exercise, 25th & 26th anyways.

What have I been listening to?  Pretty much anything but Christmas/Holiday music.  Still just not ready for it?

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

Music throughout the weekend.  “Testament”, “Wide Mouth Mason”, “Nothing but Thieves”, & “Dead Sara”

^^This guy fed me the urge to continue singing after high school.  Still one of my favourite songs.  Dave Grohl made me want to play guitar & be in a band.

Tried to watch the entire Toronto Blue Jays game Friday night, couldn’t do it.  I ended up watching some of “That ‘70s Show” on Netflix & “The Newsroom” on crave.  I might as well have been watching CNN while watching the Jays.  I was screaming at the TV, just like I do watching Trump fumble things constantly.

LANGUAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Our new Toyota RAV4 should be in this week!  I still don’t like that we’re purchasing a new vehicle, when our current is a 2014 Santa Fe, that we’ve had no issues with, but it’s a new vehicle, I am excited about it!

Saturday was a day game in Houston for the Jays.  They didn’t win of course, Houston is currently the best team in baseball, and it was well played game by the Jays, a team full of mostly rookies or players that have been to MLB to fill a spot when needed.

Kim wanted ice cream……………..again.  She went out earlier in the day to the Farmers market to get some fresh vegetables.  She also bought me some new slippers that look more like runners.  We went out for some ice cream & I had found a girly movie she’d like.  We watched the movie, “Five Feet Apart”, then I watched an episode of “The Newsroom”.

Chick flick wasn’t terrible though.

Kim went out for a run this morning & picked up groceries.  I just finished making my vegetable juice for the week.  Eggs are next.

14 years ago on June 14th Foo Fighters released the double album “In Your Honor”.  1 disc of 10 rock songs & 1 disc of 10 acoustic songs!

Thank you “Grunge”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

50 rockers that have been in multiple bands

To add to that off of the top of my head.  Josh Homme “Queens of the Stone Age”, “Kyuss”, “Them Crooked Vultures”, & “Eagles of Death Metal”.  John Paul Jones “Led Zeppelin” & “Them Crooked Vultures”.  Paul McCartney “The Beatles”, “Paul McCartney & Wings”, & “Paul McCartney”.  All of the singer/songwriters in “The Travelling Wilburys”, Tom Petty, Roy Orbison, George Harrison, Bob Dylan, & Jeff Lynne.  Dave Navarro “Red Hot Chili Peppers” & “Jane’s Addiction”.  Many, many more.

If Trump doesn’t believe in aliens what on earth does he need a ‘Space Force’ for?

DREAM THEATER RE-REVIEW

The most recent release from them deserves another review.  It’s a really great album but I don’t seem to listen to it very often.  I thought I would but I tend to go to “Systematic Chaos” from 2007 or earlier releases like “Images & Words” from 1992, or the 2 albums that were released while I was in the hospital.

2019   DISTANCE OVER TIME

2013   DREAM THEATER

2009   BLACK CLOUDS & SILVER LININGS

2007   SYSTEMATIC CHAOS

1992   IMAGES & WORDS

My brother got into them before I did.  He was watching a few concerts on DVD that I thought were OK.  Then they released “Systematic Chaos” and I was all about Dream Theater.  Every day at work I’d listen to that, Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Greatest Hits & a sports podcast.  That would take up 6 or 7 hours of my day.  Left me sometime at the end of my day to chat with co-workers.  Of course I’d take my earbuds out to chat throughout the day as well.

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

Music throughout the weekend.  “In Flames”, “Lamb of God”, “Dream Theater”, “Elton John”, “Billy Joel”, “Candlebox”, & “John Mayer”

I went to Winnipeg this weekend for my great aunt’s 80th birthday.  I rode with my parents late Friday.  We got there at about 12:45 am.  Stayed at my cousin’s condo.

The birthday was on Saturday from 2:00 – 4:00 pm.  Then we went to my other great aunt & uncle’s place for a BBQ & adult beverages.  We had to stay late due to the tremendous torrential down poor of rain “Well I guess this means I should have another rum & coke?”

My dad has 3 cousins around my age in Winnipeg from my great aunt & uncle that hosted the BBQ.  2 of them are older than me & one is a year younger me.  It was great to see my 2nd cousins & significant others, as well meeting or seeing their kids

Again it was shortly after midnight when we went back to my cousin’s place.  Great time seeing everybody though!

Unfortunately I didn’t get to see much of my cousin we were staying with.  She was cleaning the barn where she keeps her horse.

Whirlwind trip but well worth it!

What?  Sarah Silverman sings with “Walk off the Earth” for their cover of “Video Killed the Radio Star”

AEROSMITH

I’m not a huge “Aerosmith” fan, but I do like a few tunes from them.  I have their album “Big Ones”, a greatest hits compilation that I changed a few songs on iTunes.  Kim & I went to Boston in 2007 & had supper at the “Boston Hard Rock Café”, one of those moments where I was reminded they’re based in Boston.  Well here are a few songs of theirs…

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

Music throughout the weekend.  “In Flames”, “Mark Morton”, “The Damned Things”, “Dream Theater”, “Muse”, & “The Watchmen”

The rest of Friday was quite tame, Brewster had trim on Saturday at 8:00 am.  We had enough time to get coffee & cinnamon buns to go.  He loves the groomers & only takes about an hour to get a wash & trim.  He smelled like coconut & still does a bit.

We were tired & had a nap.  Kim on the couch, I got onto the floor to sleep beside my Homeslice, who immediately got on the couch with Kim.  They curled up on the couch together, & I used Brewster’s favourite blanket as a pillow on the floor.  Once I got off of the floor I watched some preseason baseball along with 2 Guiness beer.  Irish beer that’s way too dark to make green.

She’s got a TON on her plate today.  Today Kim is finishing her homework for her photography class, I’ll do some cleaning, she’ll get some groceries & finish the laundry.  I’ll boil some eggs & make a veggie juice for the week.  Then we’ll relax.

DAVID BOWIE

You know him & you either like him or can’t stand him.  I have no problem with him.  One of my dad’s favourite music acts, & yes unfortunately he’s no longer with us.  I only have 2 “Greatest Hits” albums & the album “Tonight” so here we go…..

EXERCISE WEEKLY TOTAL/GENRES?

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

I fell asleep to “Into Eternity” the album “The Sirens”

I exercised to “Foo Fighters” the album “Wasting Light”

5 day exercise total; 400 pushups, 600 leg lifts, 300 crunches, 200 tricep lifts,  450squats, 300 back flexes, & some walking this week.

I hate doing exercise as much as the next person.  Eating healthier is not a big deal to me.  I will say it’s a bit more expensive though.  Nobody hates walking, right?  Now that it’s way more work for me, I don’t care for it much.  I loved going for a walk on a fall evening on my own.  I don’t really miss that, but sometimes I just like the fall air.

I don’t look like I exercise as much as I do, & that’s a fact.  My parents are impressed by how physically strong I am though.  That was good to hear from my mother yesterday.

Yesterday Kim didn’t even have to hold on to me or my walker, she followed close behind though.  I don’t enjoy practicing walking when she gets home.  I’ve already exercised in the morning.  It’s a necessary evil in my mind.  I’d much rather sit or lay on the couch until she gets home, help with supper & forget about going walking.  We’ve gone walking more than last year, but it’s not much really.  Time to make it part of our routine!  This is again more quality than quantity.

I can tell by Thursday that my body is getting tired.  My arm exercises become very difficult.  Some days it feels like immediately after my 39th birthday my body just shut down & said “NO!  No more of that!”  I’m gonna keep going though, “somethings gotta give”, & it will not be my body!

The new “In Flames”, “Mark Morton”, & “Dream Theater” albums are ruling my world since they were released.  “In Flames” will be in in my top 5 albums of 10 for the year.  There will be new albums from “Alter Bridge”, “Big Wreck”, & “Tool”, if they’re not lying about it?

A follow up to these albums…

This single is out for purchase.  I assume it will be coming with the album preorder?

COUNTRY MUSIC?

I’m not about to rant about my dislike for most country music.  I’d like to know why some are considered country music & others aren’t?  Why does everything have to fit in a perfect spot/genres?  Why is it that these acts are considered country music?

The following groups I have seen on CMT, for these specific songs & I don’t know why?

After all of that, why isn’t the following considered country music?

Why not call all of these acts Contemporary Music & leave it at that?  There are so many sub genres in metal it’s ridiculous, speed metal, thrash metal, death metal, black metal, progressive metal, power metal, nu metal, alternative metal, etc.  When someone asks me “What kind of music do you listen to?”  I reply “Rock & metal for the most part.”  For me, metal is just called metal.

I’m not a fan of multiple sub-genres.  There’s rap, pop, country, rock, metal, electronic dance music, instrumental, classical, reggae, operatic, hymns, acoustic, contemporary, & world music (from other countries).  I don’t like sub genres, just the proper genres/main genres.

The more you share this, the more readers I get.  No, I’m not profiting from this in any way.  I can’t tell who’s reading this but thank you!
