Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

8 days of exercise.  I’m adding the 3 days from last week to this total; 600 pushups, 1000 leg lifts, 500 crunches, 450 tricep lifts, 750 squats, 500 back flexes.

I fell asleep to “I Mother Earth” the album “Scenery & Fish”

I exercised to “Coldplay” the album “A Head Full of Dreams”

Yes, I’m born & raised in Regina, Saskatchewan & yes we have free health care.  Living in the WRC was fine, after 2 years it got tough.  Our mortgage insurance covered us for the first 2 years, then we had to pay our mortgage & $1,700/month for my room at the Wascana Rehabilitation Center.

Kim did some paintings for friends & staff members at the WRC to get us through that rough patch.  A friend of the family cleared our drive way of snow & cut our lawn.  For the last year of that, we’d go home & Kim tended to the snow & lawn.  I was getting strong enough to transfer to my wheelchair to get to the washroom if needed.  Another friend of the family took over my Saskatchewan Roughriders season ticket.

All in all we could be in a much worse situation.  We can’t afford anything fancy, & we’ve cut back on a few things.  Kim has done really well of getting us out of debt each time we fall into some, other than our mortgage, but most people have a mortgage.  We’re not rich or poor, we’re low end middle class, or upper lower class?  I’m not classy, Kim is though……………….well classier than me.

A TON of people helped us out, & more that I didn’t mention.  THANK YOU!

Metallica lead singer, James Hetfield, will be on the big screen in a true story about serial killer John Wayne Gacy.

Oddly enough I LOVE serial killer documentaries!!!!!!!  Check out “Mindhunter” on Netflix if you do as well!!!!!!

“In Flames” is available for preorder today, full release March 1st.

I have “Dream Theater” preordered for release on February 22nd.  This one will be much better than their last album!

“System of a Down” news

PRETTY VICIOUS

I found out about this group over the holidays.  For me, they have an indie rock vibe, like ‘The Strokes’ but a TON more to my liking!  4 guys from Wales in the UK.  They have a 4 song EP which I made into an 11 song album with their 7 other singles on iTunes.  I’m assuming they’re fairly new.  The EP was from 2016, the singles were released from 2015 – 2018.  I think this is a rock band you’ll either hate or love?  I just saw that they’re planning a full release early 2019, which will include the 2 singles they released in 2018.

The newer groups out now, are found on www.youtube.com or occasionally on social media.  It was Much Music, then Regina’s rock station, then www.youtube.com, always friends, & now www.youtube.com & social media.  I rarely listen to the radio, even in 2007.

Did that last one remind you of U2 a bit or was it just me?

The more you share this, the more readers I get.  No, I’m not profiting from this in any way.

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

When you think you’re going to have a quiet weekend & you get a late Saturday morning phone call from your mother saying your brother is in the hospital, about to have surgery for appendicitis.  All went well!

He’ll be fine but will stay there overnight and be released today.  I’d much prefer it to be me, then I wouldn’t worry as much.

HONORABLE MENTIONS (Really nothing bad about these albums)

Dead Sara – Temporary Things Taking up Space EP

If these songs were a part of a full album, it would easily be number 1 on my list

Dead Sara – Anybody “Acoustic” Single

Easily my favourite song of the year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tesseract – Sonder

Alter Bridge – Live at The Royal Albert Hall

The stereo audio is not very good, you can barely hear the orchestra.  The surround mix on the blu-ray is MUCH better.

Pretty Vicious – Move single

Pentatonix – Top Pop, Vol. 1

Tremonti – A Dying Machine

Chromeo – Head over Heels

Live EP – Local 717 EP

Our Lady Peace – Somethingness

DISAPPOINTMENTS

Corrosion of Conformity – No Cross No Crown

CONCERTS I SAW THIS YEAR

Big Wreck (Regina)

I Mother Earth & Finger 11 (Regina)

Queens of the Stone Age w/ Royal Blood opening (Calgary)

Comedian Jim Jeffries (Regina)

Foo Fighters (Calgary)

Comedian Craig Ferguson (Regina)

Boney M (Regina)

Usually I head up to Saskatoon to see Trivium on tour.  They skipped Saskatchewan completely this time.  Typical Canadian during a North American tour is, Montreal, Toronto, & maybe Vancouver now.  The fact that I got to see all of this stuff live is pretty cool.  Only had to go to Calgary to see Queens of the Stone Age with Royal Blood & Foo Fighters.

If I had to pick my favourite concerts of the year, Queens of the Stone Age & Boney M. would both take the win.  Could be that it was my first time seeing both bands live.  Boney M’s rhythm section was INCREDIBLE!!!!!!

Here’s what to expect in 2019.  Big Wreck, Alter Bridge, Anthrax, Devin Townsend, Dream Theater (already preordered for release Feb. 22), Megadeth, Tool, Lamb of God, Mark Morton (Lamb of God guitarist) preorder January 11, full release March 1st, Rob Zombie, Slipknot, Chevelle, & In Flames (preordered available January 11).  Likely more, that’s just off of the top of my head.

I’m really excited for the ‘In Flames’ album, full release March 1st.

This is a more thorough list of loud wire’s most anticipated rock & metal albums of 2019.

The last Tool album was released in 2006, the last System of a Down album was released in 2005.  There will be a new Tool album before a System of a Down album.

Megadeth might release a song for preorder this week?

A baseball player is offered more than what he asked for from his previous team as a free agent, $300,000,000 over 10 years.  More than that was offered & he turned it down.  He must really not like where he was, I doubt any other team will offer him $10,000,000 a year to play a game for a living?  Once he hits the age of 30 or shortly thereafter you see almost all players start to decline athletically.  The back end (the last 3-5 years) of $300,000,000 will be terrible if he gets that deal.

The more you share this, the more readers I get.  No, I’m not profiting from this in any way.  I can’t tell who’s reading this but thank you!

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

Music from this weekend!  “Dead Sara”, “Big Wreck”, “Foo Fighters”, more “Dead Sara”, “A Perfect Circle”, & “Nothing But Thieves”.

STRONG LANGUAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Friday was regularly quiet, that’s getting old, but everyone is tired on Fridays.  I get to cram 8 hours of energy in 1 – 1 ½ hours in the morning & plant myself on the couch until I feel like showering in the afternoon.  Most people have to spread their energy out over 8 hours or more. I get to use it all right away, then rest.  I’d like to do something on Friday night, but I understand why others don’t want to do anything.

Saturday was, wake up at 7:00 am, go back to bed & sleep until 11:00 am.  Kim went grocery shopping with her sister, I made my weekly vegetable juice & took care of some dirty dishes while she was out.

For supper, Kim picked up some steak to BBQ to go with the sweet potato fries.  So Kim, steak, beer, & football for a Saturday night, pretty sweet deal here!  B.C. lost to Calgary which means the Saskatchewan Roughriders have a home playoff game next weekend against arch rivals the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.  Whenever Winnipeg is in town, it’s always a fun game!

Today is hard boiling some eggs, baking some fish & such, getting ready for the week ahead.

Dream Theater, Big Wreck, In Flames, Megadeth, Lamb of God, Alter Bridge & Tool (which I’ll believe when I see it) have all started the writing &/or recording process for release’s next year!

http://loudwire.com/dream-theater-announce-new-album-2019-tour-teaser-clip/?fbclid=IwAR2KEqzclA4GLGIlF8ZaLJCdUJh4yEgZUWDyy2PtrhTGN4GSTGI2jtrZG5k

You will NEVER hear this song by Tool live!  Rumor is Maynard James Keenan couldn’t speak for 3 weeks after recording the vocals?

JACK JOHNSON

7 studio albums in total.  I own 6 of them on CD.  He’s from Hawaii & does a lot of surfing.  He would film himself & his friends surfing.  I think he put his music on the videos & then started releasing his music to the masses?  Don’t quote me on that last comment.  The 3rd album has the song for our first dance at our wedding, we had a hard time finding a song we agreed on.  I seem to prefer his first album though?  Anyways, here are a few songs from his first album….

5 day exercise total; 400 pushups, 300 tricep pushups, 300 back flexes, 360 squats, 600 leg lifts, 300 crunches.

I fell asleep to “Dead Sara” both albums followed by the EP “Temporary Things Taking up Space”

I exercised to “Sandbox” the album “Bionic”

Yes, the singer is Bubbles from the Canadian TV show “Trailer Park Boys” the guy with the glasses

Monday was tough after 9 days off.  Oddly, it got much easier as the week progressed?  That was a pleasant surprise.  I could have just sat here & complained about a boring life, done nothing when I was released from my cancer rehabilitation.  Instead I chose to try & get myself as close to what I was before cancer.

Remember that whatever is going on in your life you almost always have a choice.  The path of least resistance was not for me.  “Yeah, let’s make it as difficult as possible” – idiot/me

After almost 5 ½ years, I’m finally seeing some muscle, not much but some.  After watching all of that www.youtube.com stuff on exercising, I can tell you it’s a flat out LIE!  If it was true, I’d have been quite muscular 4 or 5 years ago!  Watch a www.youtube.com video & try to replicate it, doesn’t work in my case!

Today is the day!!!!  “Bohemian Rhapsody” is in theaters today!!!!!  I don’t like joining a crowd.  I’ll see it next week or sometime shortly after that!

Mike Myers on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert regarding many topics including his role in “Bohemian Rhapsody”

Everybody knew ‘grunge’ had its moment but Marilyn Manson in its place now?  I’ve heard a few songs of his, they’re not what you might think they might sound like.  They were album tracks & they were mostly orchestral music.

http://loudwire.com/dave-grohl-marilyn-manson-replaced-grunge/?fbclid=IwAR1lZhR2fUfj_zqinKrjyO4nD6pPo7pZjMdzcTFuFcCnpL0nHP9a0fDYY5o

Dream Theater is releasing their 14th album in February!  Great, the 34 song double album “The Astonishing” was far from what I/fans expected & knew they could do better!

http://loudwire.com/dream-theater-new-album-february-2019/?fbclid=IwAR1Ws8vdEK61BqiYIX-rIPEUhJlGkuAMrMTmBYBhEs52FV52vfH4iZFbJRA

I like “Slipknot”, I’ve got their albums.  I’ve never been anxious for any album of theirs to be released until now!

Ah yes, “I’m going to sue you because my husband took too many of the pills you prescribed him”.  I miss Chris Cornell & Soundgarden too, but the doctor didn’t shove the pills down his throat, or was he on tour with Soundgarden?

Big Wreck’s Facebook status “New Big Wreck coming along nicely.”  SWEET!

COUNTING CROWS

I own 2 of their albums that I bought on CD in the 1990s.  I actually bought 5 studio albums & a double album of them live.  I’m good with only the first 2 studio albums though.  I really don’t know about this band so here’s what http://www.google.com tells me.  They formed in Berkley, California in 1991.  Their first big album was released in 1993 & their 2nd album was released in 1996.  When I got their 2nd album that was all I listened to for 2-3 weeks.  Their most recent studio album was released in 2014.

1996     RECOVERING THE SATELLITES

I fell asleep to “The Beaches” their debut full length album “The Late Show”, followed by “Halestorm” the new album “Vicious”

I exercised to “Dream Theater” their self-titled album from 2009

The wheelchair is ordered.  There was a different make of the 12 pound chair, & that’s what has been ordered.  The foot rest is there but it’s angled so I can use it or flip it vertical under my seat & still propel with my feet.  I’ll use the foot rest, just not in the house, it really gets in the way when I’m in the kitchen.

Sunday ended with a BANG!  I made my vegetable juice & baked some fish, then I went to see comedian Jim Jefferies!  Absolutely HILARIOUS!  Big surprise for me is when Dale, friend of the family, pulled a VIP pass from his pocket for me as we were waiting for the doors to open.  We all (5) met & got a photo with the comedian.  Good times!  Came home with the VIP pass around my neck & Kim calmly asks “Where did you get that?”  I told her how it went down.

LOTS OF LANGUAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can’t do a week of just cardio?  The week works out that I’ll be walking with my walker 3 evenings this week.  I know I have to keep up with some of my other exercises as well.  If I stop it becomes much more difficult to achieve my goals!

I will say that practicing to walk without falling is the most tiring/frustrating thing to do.  For not having done much walking at all, it’s been OK thus far.

Finger Eleven play “Awake & Dreaming” acoustically.  From their first album “Tip”

New ‘Into Eternity’ album to be released on Friday!!!!!  Not on any streaming site or iTunes.  $20 through email for a CD intoeternityCD@gmail.com or download $15 on www.bandcamp.com

Oh Shark Week!  I’ll miss you, see you next year!  I’m counting the days already!

Yes, I was in a cover band to start learning how it felt to play live on stage & just improve as much as possible on everything.  Doing cover songs is a love/hate thing for me.  On the one hand, someone else wrote it & now a different artist is going to try & make it better?  Another way to look at it is “Cool, this is what likely inspired other artists”!  Male or Female it doesn’t matter as long as it’s done well & means something to whoever is covering a song.

New “Greta Van Fleet” in late August

When Robert Plant approves, who cares what they sound like?

The Toronto Blue Jays had a closed door players meeting Monday after a horrific game in Oakland.  A lot of talk about coming to the ball park, doing your job although they’re not making the playoffs, etc.  The short-stop who hasn’t touched the field since July 2017 due to injury, but still making $20,000,000 this year decided to pipe up in the meeting.  He’s 32 or 33 years old & will continue to make $20,000,000 a year until the end of the 2020 season.  If I was a player in that room, whatever he had to say would go in one ear & out the other.  He wasn’t even with the team until Monday??  Why would I listen to someone who hasn’t been with the team in a year?????!!!!  Even with him playing the wins & losses would likely be very similar.

U2

Most people know who U2 is.  Those that know of the band either highly despise, or really like them.  I loved U2 in the late ‘80s & early ‘90s.  Now I listen to them on the odd occasion or if Brewster & I are in the vehicle, while U2 is on the radio, I turn it up.  Yes, I agree, the “Songs of Innocence” free album to iTunes users was terrible, however the follow up “Songs of Experience” was a very good blend of older U2 while being more modern at the same time.  Everybody knows the “Joshua Tree” album, so I’m not going to review that one.  I’ve rarely, if ever, heard thoughts on one of my favourite albums “Achtung Baby”, released in 1991.  This album or “The Joshua Tree” are both fantastic yet different. “Achtung Baby” was full of studio/production trickery, but still good.

Here are 2 album tracks I’m a BIG fan of!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I own, on CD, every U2 album from the album “Boy” released in 1980 all the way to “How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb” released in 2005.  I think they released 2 after that, which I don’t own at all.  I have the album they released for free & bought it’s follow up “Songs of Experience” which, like I said, is a much better mix of new & old U2.

Please share this, I’m not profiting from this at all.  Word of mouth is the only way of promoting this.

I fell asleep to “Pentatonix” the new album “Top pop Vol.1” then “Myles Kennedy” his solo album “Year of the Tiger”

I exercised to “Dream Theater” the album “Metropolis, PT.2 Scenes from a Memory”

Weekly exercise total; 1080 pushups, 720 leg lifts, 500 crunches, 400 squats, 300 tricep pushups, & 200 back flexes

I change the order of the exercises I do for 2 reasons.  So that I stay sane & to avoid muscle memory.  The only thing that stays the same is my squats are always first.  Everything else is done on the floor.  I do my squats, sit on the couch, move my wheelchair out of the way, & get on the floor from the couch, which is a much easier way of getting on the floor.

I increased 2 exercises today only.  280 pushups, & 160 leg lifts instead of 140.  I don’t know if they’ll all be that amount next week but I’ll try.

This week I did more than 3 sets of 25 squats.  I did 4 sets of 20 squats.  Not a huge difference, only 5 more a day.  Over the course of a 5 day week that’s 25 extra squats.  Not necessarily a massive increase per day, but it’s enough for me!  My right calf still looks like the bone of a chicken wing.  Squats, crunches, & leg lifts are the crucial exercises I have to do.  They all work out my core muscles & my legs somewhat.  Squats are also some extra cardio for me other than walking with my walker or riding an exercise bike.  When I lived with my parents, during my days at the technical college, I’d ride the exercise bike & watch a “Lord of the Rings” movie for the entire length of the movie.

All of that exercise, & it really didn’t help me lose weight, I was eating terribly.

I’m not obese by any means.  I was 185 when I graduated high school, then quite steady at 265.  Last I checked (a few weeks ago) I was 220.  The change is I’m in a wheelchair 98% of the time.  I’m sitting & then my belly sticks out.  For me to be under 210 is ridiculous!  Everybody, for the most part, on my mother’s side of the family has issues with weight.  Most of us have a large frame.  Big boned is a real thing.

My problem is when I left my physiotherapy & continued to eat stuff full of sugar, all of my weight went straight to my belly.  When we moved to this house on December 18th, 2013, I ate absolute crap.  Now & for a few years I eat much healthier.  Vegetable juice every morning of water, orange juice, tomatoes, spinach, broccoli, pea pods, & frozen fruit or ice cubes with my breakfast.  Hardboiled egg or 2, 2 rice cakes, some type of fruit.  Then a lunch of either a deli turkey meat wrap with hot sauce & a slice of cheese, or a piece of fish with lemon juice on it.  I sometimes have a snack of 0% yogurt with blueberries in it or hummus & rice crackers.  Supper is whatever Kim feels like having (typically something healthy).  I have 0-3 coffees a day, no sugar or cream.  Black Columbian coffee.  That’s my diet 5 days a week, weekends, I don’t really pay attention to a regulated diet.  I know I physically can’t handle a ton of sugar or grease.  My stomach doesn’t agree with that since it’s not the norm for me.

I’m 6’ 1” with a big frame.  I’m slowly getting closer to what will make me happy & possibly have me walking one day in the future.  Healthy food during the week & other stuff in moderation on the weekends.

THE 1970s

I wasn’t born until 1980 but there is some really good tunes from the 70s.  I was into the “grunge” stuff, & wanted to hear what stuff influenced the “grunge” musicians.  Queen, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Boston, Kansas, & all the way back to The Beatles & The Rolling Stones.  I’ve never really been much of a Rolling Stones fan though, it’s fine & I’ll listen to it.  I don’t seek out for it though.  I had an “As seen on TV” 70s compilation, it’s AWESOME….

A lot of these bands I’ve never heard of, some I’ve only heard the name of, some I’ve heard & avoid as much as possible, & a few are FANTASTIC!
