I fell asleep to “Stone Temple Pilots” the album “Purple”

I exercised to “Dave Matthews Band” the album “Under the Table & Dreaming”

Canada got its country wide address from our leader on Monday regarding the virus.  I figured I should mention something about it.  Stay home, stay safe, don’t be a hero until called upon, let the professionals dictate the plan of action.  Don’t freak out, it won’t solve anything.  There’s a time to question authority, this isn’t the time.  Most importantly BE A GLOBAL CITIZEN….FOR EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  We’ll check with our neighbors to see if they need help with anything every few days.

It’s shortly after 6:00 am Sunday morning.  Brewster is my child but also a mama’s boy.  Kim’s on a girl trip with some friends at a spa, his mama’s not home.  He sleeps all day, eats & then wakes me up at 5:00 am to get up on our bed.  I stayed up until 12:30 am.  I get up, throw on some clothes & brush my teeth as he’s growling at me like it’s the end of the world.  I wish he could talk, all he wanted was up on our King size bed.  So here it is 6:22 am, I’m wide awake & our 12 pound Bichon/Shi-tzu is curled up in the middle of our King Size bed asleep.

I’ve noticed the past 2 or 3 weeks that I tend to go to bed earlier & sleep in a little bit later.  It used to be I’d go to bed around 10:30 or 11:00 pm and get up before 8:00 am.  Now it’s 9:30-10:00 pm and sleep until 8:30-9:00 am.  I don’t know if my age is catching up with me, if I’m more tired from a more intense workout, or if it’s finally the effects of cancer wearing off & now I sleep more.  I was on some HEAVY sleeping pills while I was in my rehab.  Strong enough to take down a horse for 4 days, me maybe 2 hours if I was lucky.  Sucks being that tired every day when you have a full day of physiotherapy the next day.

We watched “Bombshell” Friday evening & on Saturday I watched “Willow” that I haven’t seen since ‘Laser Discs’ were a big deal.

I was appalled…again…by the events that took place in 2015 at FOX.  Absolutely disgusting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You’re likely bored with me blabbing on about guitars by now.  They’re brand new to me again but I know more about them.  For me it’s reconnecting with an old friend.

Paul Reed Smith is a guitar player, builder, and began fixing guitars in high school, so I fully believe he knows what he wants out of a guitar & knows what any guitar player would want!  I’m sold on that company!  If I had the cash & was beginning to get into guitar, I’d eventually get 3 PRS SE models & one random acoustic hybrid.

I was going back to buying CDs, but the more I think about, it I’ll switch to streaming music from iTunes, I hate streaming music with a passion!  I’ll save my pennies for a “Paul’s Guitar SE” in the “Aqua” colour if it’s still around.  Decision made, this could take a decade or more?  I wouldn’t do it if I didn’t think it was worth it.  Brewster’s health, hopefully a house sooner than later, & a trip for Kim before a new guitar happens.   Kim helped me pay for the more expensive PRS S2 I ordered, so fair is fair (I have no desire to travel, I just want to be with my wife).  Why, you ask?  I’m not a very interesting guy, but my tastes are expensive.  My AWESOME wife, rum, & guitars.

There’s a PRS guitar that does even more cool stuff, it’s not something I’m interested in though, as are any other guitars.  All this really means is that I’ve made the decision to get it for the different pickups, bridge, more electronic options & colour difference.  So instead of saying “probably not” in the future, I’ll say “hopefully so” in the future.  I do have a rule about having too many guitars though.  If a guitar sits un-played for more than 2 days, there’s no need for it!  Right now the 4 electrics & are used daily, acoustic probably 4 days a week as I’m watching TV.

I bring in under $40,000 a year at the moment.  My RDSP which triples the $5000 limit I’m allowed to contribute annually until I’m 50 is locked in & untouchable until I’m 60 (20 years).  Saving for an “inexpensive”/”low end” $1300 PRS SE could take quite a few years.  It’s still in the distant future but it’s no longer a maybe for me.

January 25th, 2008 was the last time I played on a stage.  It was very fitting in retrospect.  We played for free with all of the funds going to a charity that helps with medical needs for the disabled.  My family ended up receiving $11,000 from that charity to put towards an $18,000 wheelchair van Kim & I used for 3 years.  I lived in the hospital full time & sometime in 2009 (after my birthday in January) I moved to the Wascana Rehabilitation Center where I eventually was able to go home on the weekends, to eventually going home overnight after my physio & other therapies were done by 4:00 pm.

As for a house, well we’ve had a lot of showings but no offers at all & despite that there’s one possibility on the market for us.  I’m not holding my breath on getting a house.  It’ll happen when it happens.  We talked about it last night.  With what’s going on in the world right now, the house contract ends at the end of March & we’re off of the market then.

Kim is likely very happy that sports in general have been suspended & the baseball regular season has been postponed until mid-May at least.

2 of my guitars took a little tumble today, nothing too drastic just cosmetic scars.  My Epiphone “Grohl” Explorer is missing a small chunk of the body & my new 7 string has a little dent on the back of the neck.  I tuned them up, played them & nothing to worry about.  My Fender Telecaster is the only electric out of 4 that still looks new other than the autograph.

I may have bought my acoustic guitar before this but this is my electric Epiphone Explorer from Kim in our first year of dating on Christmas of 2002.  Meet my “Grohl” (he’s photographed with a Gibson Explorer on Foo Fighters’ 3rd album, There is Nothing Left to Lose).  My guitar has a nasty scratch on the back of it, I guess all that means is that it has been played a lot, & it was my backup or differently tuned guitar to “Kermit”.

YAY, new “Lamb of God” tune!!!  Album out May 8th.

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

I fell asleep to “Nothing but Thieves” the album “Broken Machine”

Like I said we didn’t do much on Friday evening.  At the age of 38 that’s pretty common for us.  We sat on the couch & rented “Lady Bird” from iTunes.  “Dave Matthews Band” song “Crash Into Me” was in it a few times, forgot how much I enjoy “DMB”.  The movie was OK, might have been better if I hadn’t heard so much buzz about it?

The kids seem to be outplaying the veterans.  2019 & 2020 are the last 2 years of the $20,000,000 a year contract for Troy Tulowitzki.  I’d like to pay out his contract for $30,000,000 next year just to go away.  There’s already 4 younger/cheaper players in the minor league system waiting to take over at Short-Stop.  They play again today on TV, next Saturday, 2 more spring training games in Montreal, then a 4 game series against the New York Yankees in Toronto to open the season.  They’re playing many other games before the regular season starts, these are just the televised games.

Saturday, Kim went grocery shopping since I was watching pre-season baseball.  Instead of groceries, she came back with 4 blu-rays I had asked for to use my birthday money on & order through!  We ended up watching “Thor: Ragnarok” easily the best “Thor” movie of the 3 for me.

Watched the movie & we were in bed between 9:30 & 10:00 pm

Got up today watched “Saturday Night Live” & “Tanked”, then off to visit some friends, yes, I was wearing shorts as usual.  Picked up Brewster, grabbed some groceries & Kim’s BBQing steaks for supper!  I hope so!

The American government wants to make schools safe.  Florida has already changed it’s gun laws.  That’s great that the kids are changing things in schools.  What happens if you’re at a concert, movie, mall, or anywhere else?  America has had mass shootings at all of these locations.  A shooting could happen anywhere?  I hope what they’ve done in Florida becomes a Federal law?

So they’re having issues with the “Alexa” device from Amazon?  Who saw that coming?  Everyone!  New technology not working properly.  Biggest complaint was that it laughs maniacally at random or just stops responding.

Do we really need a device like this?

What about A.I. robots?

Makes the movie “Weird Science” not look so weird!

Guess what?  Nobody worried about this stuff in the 1980s!

Most fans have nothing but praise for “Alter Bridge’s” second album “Blackbird”.  I’m a big fan of “Alter Bridge” but that album is my least favourite of their 5 studio albums.

I’m still dealing with the same issue from Apple/iTunes, dad said he’d try something different for me (wiring stuff for me).  An issue a lot of people would scoff at but it’s causing me WAY to much stress & frustration, heck it started sometime in October.  I surrender (sort of).  Some albums load the songs, some don’t, & some albums load the songs but they’re out of order.  All of this is very random.  If it doesn’t work over the stereo, it’s fine on my iPod or computer!  It’s weird & my TV freezes when you first use the Apple TV.  4 or 5 months is ridiculous & the guy that was helping me with this at first, no longer calls me & doesn’t return my calls or emails!?

Myles Kennedy.

He just released his solo album first solo album.  If you’re expecting it to be a hard rock album, keep looking.  10 songs that are acoustic.  He had an album of hard rock songs & left it for possible “Alter Bridge” albums or something different later.  This guy could sing the old phone books & I’d go to a show of his, Alter Bridge, or his first group “The Mayfield Four”.  I saw “The Mayfield Four” once.  They were in Regina & they opened for “The Watchmen”, & headliner “Big Wreck” in 1999 or 2000.  He also sang inaudible backing vocals on “Big Wreck’s” 2nd album.  His solo album is titled “Year of the Tiger”, his father died in 1974 which was the “Year of the Tiger.  Here’s a bit of his other projects & his solo album…

Sorry but I desperately want to kick my sciatic nerve and get “Physical”.  I wake up, get ready for the day, have breakfast, & then it’s usually around 8:30 am & my day is done for the most part other than trying surprise Kim with something.

No, I don’t surprise her very often?  She deserves it though.  I was so close to being paralyzed at first.  I was the corps in a bag (Hoyer lift) with Kim.  I had a bigger wheelchair initially since I was around 275lbs.  I’m a large person.  I’m 6’1” and around 235 pounds.  Still some weight to go, 215 pounds should be pretty close to what I should be at.  I have no intent in stopping my exercise until I’m able to do most things!  You heard it here first!  My goal from the day I was conscious was to be able to walk or I’m gonna die trying!

How on earth do you put together a greatest hits album of Bryan Adams without “Cuts like a Knife”?  I think iTunes made me go shopping when I bought it.

Punk fans listen up!  Rancid & The Dropkick Murphy’s are heading out on tour together!

Old song, sorry.

I may have sang in multiple rock bands, but I wasn’t anything to write home about.  I was more of “the best of what’s around”.  I was good enough.  I had spent 3 years in the high school choir, but I had to change my register from singing low bass to a tenor voice or else I was headed in the direction of sounding like Scott Stapp of “Creed”.  I got my first guitar for my 21 birthday that was a tremendous boost of confidence for me, something to hide behind.  I heard 2 good things said about my voice.

Yes, we played Creed in my first band.  Remember this was in 2001.  The first thing I heard was that a friend of our drummer thought I had been replaced as the singer.  A few months before I got sick, I was singing in my brother’s group.  Our bass player went to the piano to figure out what note I had hit in a new song we were working on.  High C#.  I knew it was near the top of my range, but that was way up there.  I remember seeing a contestant on ‘American Idol’ hit the same note full voice.  Other than that, I’d never survive on ‘American Idol’.

Music is what keeps me going!  I started singing in a cover band in University back in 1999 or probably 2000?  I was far more nervous than before I learned guitar after my birthday in 2001.  In total we learned around 35 cover songs, & 7 original songs.  I wrote 3 & our guitar player wrote 4.  I managed to memorize all of the lyrics to the songs we were preforming.  I’ll leave you with 3 or 4 at the end here every day.

We played this at punk speed, just the first verse.  Very quick version!

Don’t feel as though you have to click on every link.

I played baseball from 1984-1997.  When I watch baseball I understand what is going on in each players head.  Every player is considering what the pitch will be, the defense is thinking about what they’ll do when the ball is hit & where they need to be.  So I get that it’s boring for many people.  I admit I wasn’t the smartest player on the team but I tried to keep track of everything that was going on.  It’s a thinking game, then a quick reaction to what’s happening with every pitch.

I played on 2 teams in 1997 High School team & a city league team, mostly at 3B.  I couldn’t hit water if I fell out of a boat.  It’s reassuring to know what the coaches were thinking on my way to the ball park.  “Chris playing 3B batting 9th”.  Very good to know where I’d be for 98% of the time for 2 years.  I did throw my arm out the last year (1997).  When I saw that my boss at the Delta Hotel, & later on a paper supplier were looking for players on the company softball team.  I jumped at the chance to join.  I miss it, so I watch almost every Blue Jays game on TV.  If I don’t see the game because we’re out, I record it & if it’s done I’ll watch Blue Jays in :30.  If we’re going to my parents cabin for a few days or elsewhere I’ll record all of the Blue Jays in: 30 while we’re gone.

I miss being in a rock band also.  I’ve been in 2 or 3.  I was always the singer & rhythm guitar player.  I only sang because I was “The Best of what’s Around”.  I certainly don’t miss gathering my gear, every bass & guitar (3-7 of them), & taking them home at 2:00 am though.  Now I just listen to a TON of music.  Eventually I’ll be playing my guitar it just won’t be on a stage at a bar.

I’ll probably will never play catch again with any type of ball, let alone a baseball.  I’ll never play live music again either.  I can sit around here at some point though & play my guitar though!  Things changed immediately when I came out of a coma.  Maybe as much as everyone changes or maybe more?  Change isn’t necessarily a bad thing!  I highly suggest not changing anything because of cancer, cause WOW, that came out of nowhere for me…………………….BAZINGA!

Those were changes for me & it took me a while to get over the fact that I wouldn’t be able to do them.  I was in the Rehabilitation Center at the time so it took me maybe 2 or 3 years to get over it, but I did.  Along with figuring out how to do other things a different way.  The world doesn’t always change to fit your needs, you have to figure out how you’ll adapt to the world & keep up with everyone else.

I was thinking to myself the other day. I must have been “The Best of What’s Around” for a third baseman when I played baseball. If you’re a back catcher, 2nd baseman, short stop or center fielder, hitting is a bonus, defense is usually the priority at those positions. If you’re plying any spot other then the ones mentioned or pitcher, you had better be able to hit. I couldn’t hit at all. Every game though I’d show up & look at the lineup for the game & 99% of the time it was Chris Fraser batting 9th, playing 3B.

I don’t know how good I was, but I wasn’t ever afraid of the ball. If the ball was hit in my direction, I’d attack it, like I was taught to. As long as it didn’t get passed me I was satisfied! I don’t remember ever diving for a ball, I did throw to 1B on the run though.

Knowing who was at bat always helped, more so knowing their batting tendencies & where the ball would be hit. I remember the lead off hitter for the Moose Jaw team would almost always hit a ground ball to me. Usually it was a guaranteed out. Bounce 2 or 3 times, smother the ball & toss him out at first base, roughly 127′ away.

I know exactly why people get bored watching baseball. It’s a physical reaction every pitch to the chess game going on in a players head. Everybody on defense has somewhere to be no matter where the ball is hit. When a hitter comes to the plate, you should be thinking of 8-10 different possibilities, and they change with each pitch.

The hitter & runner are thinking through different scenarios as well with each pitch. When I sit down to watch a ball game, I think along with the players. That’s why I watch as much Blue Jays baseball as possible!

Remember most of this is just about me bombing around in a wheelchair, currently t the age of 36, I had stage 4 brain cancer at the age of 28 & I’ve been in a wheelchair since Tuesday, February 5th 2008, & I listen to a pile of music & I have played baseball from the age of 4-17 then I quit because my arm said I had to! Stupid arm!

I know there are people out there that have a much larger music collection than I do. I backed up my iTunes files the other day & I currently own 1180 albums on my iTunes + roughly 300/600 CDs I have yet to put on iTunes.

The majority of info on here is mostly stuff I’m interested in, there’s a lot more info out there that I’m not necessarily interested in. I urge you to look for info you’re interested in &/or let me know what you’d like to see here more & if there’s an artist or group I should know about? Feedback is always welcome!

I think I’m done with Slayer? They’re wearing a little thin on me. After one album or a bit less I get a little bored of them.

Coldplay team up with the cast of “Game of Thrones” for Red Nose Day sketch

I like some Coldplay, mostly their first 2 albums & the odd song here & there.

Flavor Flav was more than a little weird to begin with. You knew he’d pop up in the news at some point.

I would take a Dave Matthews Band crappy day anytime for myself………………I’d likely be incredible! Here he is speaking about the summer tour!

I love this tune

Yes I still like the “1989” album by Taylor Swift, probably because I never really listen to the radio?

Loud Wire’s 10 best hard rock albums of 1995. Foo Fighters S/T debut album, all by Dave Grohl except one guitar part, is on the list but not number 1.

Barenaked Ladies part 7 of the making of “Silverball” out June 2nd

Here it is if you’ve missed it. Foo Fighters playing the entire “Wasting Light” album released in 2011 from their Head Quarters/Studio 606.

Any Spider man movie would be better than the 3rd one with Toby McGuire & Topher Grace. Those movies started off well and got a little “Campy” with each sequel for me

Rock It Out Blog

I learned these 2 songs by Green Day & they had the exact same chord pattern just different timing.

Songs I like. “Green Day”, before they made ‘American Idiot’ WARNING, LANGUAGE IN A COUPLE SONGS!!!

I’ve found people on face book that I’ve lost track of over the years, everybody has an email address for social media sites, might as well us it for this blog. I have no intention of putting this on twitter, instagram, facebook, etc. it’s an old fashion website. Up there are instructions on how to subscribe. I’m at 44 subscribers so all 44 of you please help me out? DO I HEAR 50, 50, 50? Don’t worry, I won’t use the email addresses unless told to.

Hard rock fans, buy this “Red Dragon” album by Room 333, which is compared to “La Gargola” by Chevelle!

It took a while yesterday in the late afternoon. I did get the “Sonic Highways” HBO series which I had bought for $20 while it was on HBO, the special features in the studios & extended interviews finally showed up. For a while yesterday I thought it might be a Cash Grab! In Canada or at least Regina, HBO is an extra $20 a month for 3 channels on your cable package. We had it for 4 weeks to watch 4 episodes of the series. I found it on iTunes for $20. I figured it’s cheaper to just buy it rather than spending $40 to just watch it & have it disappear.

Somebody wants some of the spotlight? Van Halen is one of those bands that should probably just tour now?

Somebody finally got the memo, it’s not the 1980s anymore, SURPRISE!

Now Twisted Sister has announced a farewell tour for 2016.

I just watched this on Jimmy Fallon from last night

I saw “Who is Fancy” do this song on Jimmy Fallon from last night doing this song. Catchy song I have to check into this? Checked iTunes & it’s just a single. I don’t buy single songs because I never listen to them. If there is a full album that I like the most of the songs on then I buy it.

Marilyn Manson news that nobody will care about….

I still haven’t seen this movie? Pearl Jam told me I should.

Anti Vaccinations? Maybe join the Church of Scientology?

Tuesday on iTunes Halestorm fans!!!

How does a newer band like “Volbeat”, 4 albums, have “Anthrax”, 14 albums, as an opener/special guest? I like both groups, but isn’t Anthrax considered one of the HUGE 4 metal bands? Anthrax formed in 1981, Volbeat formed in 2001? At least they’re bringing “Anthrax” to Regina & Saskatoon!

Frances Cobain interview about Kurt Cobain Like I need to do this, I guess if you lived under a rock throughout the 1990s

Review of the new Halestorm album “Into The Wild Life”

Inductors & inductees for the 2015 “Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame”

In Flames shared it on facebook so I’ll share it here. Back in 2006, when I discovered them

Frances Cobain is not a fan of Nirvana & doesn’t think her father is a hero

Pearl Jam live from the 2000 DVD “Touring Band”

15 songs already written for the next Megadeth album!!!

Kim made me watch “Dancing with the Stars” last night. When she comes home I’ll be on the couch watching………………….BASEBALL! I’m assuming I’ll be sent to the bedroom TV to watch the game?

Songs I like. “Dave Matthews Band” I think I took the time to learn “Ants Marching” on guitar, very difficult for me to sing at the same time, that just never happened for me.
