Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

Music throughout the weekend. “Dave Grohl”, “The Struts”, “Lamb of God”, “Bruce Springsteen”.

Relatively quiet weekend.  Friday I watched the Toronto Blue Jays.  Did the same on Saturday.  Stopped the game on Saturday while visiting with Tim Wong & his kids.  I’ve been friends with Tim since grade 9 (1994-1995?).  Nice to see him.  I see him about once a year, since he lives in Edmonton.  Always a welcome visit when he’s in town.  Kim had a work BBQ on Saturday.  She left just before 3:00 pm & came home quite late (2:50 pm – 11:40 pm roughly), what was I doing?  I watched “Star Wars Episode 8: The Last Jedi” after Tim & his kids left.

Today is our get ready for the week ahead, I’ve made my juice & Kim’s out grocery shopping.  I’ll bake some fish & Kim will put her lunches together once we hard boil some eggs.

Brewster is getting old.  Kim took him to the Vet this week.  He’s 12.5 years old, both ears are infected, & on a scale of 1 – 6 his heart murmur is at a 4.  Gets me more than a little worried.

I can’t wait to see “The Meg”.  That might rank up there for me with the movie “Jaws”?

JIMMY EAT WORLD

A pop/punk band made up of 7 people with 8 albums.  Again, more emphasis on the pop than the punk.  They made their debut in 1996 with the album “Static Prevails”.  I own 4 of their albums.  Not the first 2 releases or the last 2 releases.  They’ve hit the peak of their career for me.  I didn’t get into them until 2001 on their 3rd album “Bleed American” when I saw the video for the song “The Middle”.

2001    BLEED AMERICAN

2004    FUTURES

2007   CHASE THIS LIGHT

2010   INVENTED

I can see how people would get really bored with this band fast.  Very redundant with the majority of the songs in very simple 4/4 time.  If I’m listening to stuff like this or a very progressive type of music, I’m probably not thinking about the music & have just tuned out of everything.  If it’s very progressive I might be focusing or thinking too hard about what’s going on in the music.

4 days again since Monday was the long weekend; 400 pushups, 240 tricep pushups, 90 back flexes, 400 leg lifts, 200 crunches, 240 squats.

I fell asleep to “The Struts” the album “Everybody Wants”

I had breakfast while listening to “Big Wreck” the album “Albatross”

I exercised to “Big Wreck” the album “The Pleasure & the Greed”

We didn’t get to walking with my walker this week.  Kim’s had stuff on the go, & some of my family is in town.

Would have done better & got at least one day of walking in but that thing called life got in the way.  Ah well, next week should be good to squeeze in some walking.

When I was in the Wascana Rehabilitation Center, walking was my favourite therapy session to do & now, not so much.  I like getting up & getting everything done ASAP.  Walking with my walker requires Kim’s assistance, I just don’t like waiting to do it until she gets home from work.

I know what I’ll do next week.  I’ll do my morning floor exercises, then do my cardio/walking when Kim is free in the evening.

Here’s the 23 minute instrumental song all by Dave Grohl, if you want to sit at your computer or stare at your phone for 31 minutes.  3 days to record the song, 3 drum sets, bass, & multiple guitars.  No vocals.

EVE 6

A trio of guys from California.  I thought they were around when I was much younger, guess I was wrong.  Their first album was released in 1998, the year I graduated high school!  Anyways, the first 2 albums had music videos that were on Much Music, shortly before Much Music was pandering to a younger market by playing teen aimed TV shows with far less music content.  Eve 6 released 4 albums in total, & yes, I have them all, 3 on CD & 1 from iTunes.  They’re a pop-punk trio.  Emphasis on the pop side of things….

1998   EVE 6

1999    HORRORSCOPE

On this album there is not a song without LANGUAGE!!!!!!!  However, I find this to be their catchiest album of the 4.

I exercised to “Burn the Priest” the album “Legion XX” basically Lamb of God’s first name.  This is a covers album.

4 day weekly exercise total; 960 pushups, 800 leg lifts, 400 crunches, 400 squats, 330 tricep pushups, & 160 back flexes.

Well that was dumb!  Resumed my exercise like always on Tuesday!  Even though I have not done any exercise since Friday, May 11th.  Somedays my stupidity amazes me!  Probably most other people too hahahaha!  Rhetorical question, keep the answer to yourself please.

I’m the one that puts all of the pressure on me, nobody else.  This week I got really frustrated with my exercise.  Thinking to myself “I have to do better, I have to do more…etc.”  I also had one of those moments, where I took a step back & thought “Is this what I’ll be doing until I die?”, at that moment I realized I have a lot of family & friends I can count on to help me out!

Americans & the rest of the world are worried about a nuclear war.  Why are Americans afraid?  They’ve got their guns to protect them, & if they don’t own a gun they’ll probably be shot?  They kind of have a bad option.  Would you prefer to be killed in a nuclear war or be shot, especially a civil war?  I’m not joking here.  Just mentioning a sad reality!

These days, I really try not to take anything too seriously.  A couple of people tried to make fun of me on a public Facebook page, they knew nothing about me & I knew nothing about them.  I didn’t see any of the multiple posts where they were acting very immature until my brother tagged me in a response.  Thanks Mitch, let them go at it.  If someone I don’t know on Facebook wants to take a cheap shot at me, so be it.  In the end, they’re the ones who made the comments, I did not reply to my statement about emojis.  Because emojis are a FANTASTIC reason to get upset………………….NOT!

ECONOLINE CRUSH

They have 5 albums & 1 EP.  I own their first 2 albums on CD & another from iTunes.  Wikipedia says they’re from Vancouver, British Columbia, I always thought they were originally from a small farming town in Manitoba.  Wikipedia is not always correct with pop culture stuff such as bands, movies, & TV series.  I could be wrong also?  Their sound is that of a rock band that’s influenced by industrial metal, they are NOT a metal group, I would call them an industrial rock band.

I’m not an expert on them, but a lot of my friends are.  I like them quite a bit.  This is another post-grunge group from Canada that were HUGE in the late 1990s & early 2000s.  There’s an album & an EP that were released prior to this album.  Honestly, I haven’t listened much to the album I got from iTunes.

I thought it was a well-deserved moment this week when Ashton Kutcher donated $4,000,000 to Ellen Degeneres’ wild life foundation for the gorillas in Africa!

If any of this is true (which I HIGHLY doubt it is) I’ll go back to buying CDs.  Amazon, here I come!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Maybe?  Oh, the lies!  I couldn’t find the link he saw on that site!  Also, you would think iTunes users would get a direct email regarding this?!

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

I fell asleep to “Lamb of God” the album “Sturm Und Drang”

My in-laws were in town for the weekend, & I was doing some stuff offline on the computer.  I needed a little break from the computer, didn’t feel long enough though!

Kim’s parents & aunt got here about 3:00 pm or so on Friday coffee for the afternoon & pizza for supper.  The day ended with me staying up way too late, trying to clear the DVR.  We’re behind since I was at a concert on Tuesday & Kim’s taking a photography course once a week from 7:00-10:00 pm.

Saturday Kim & Sherry took their mom to a craft show & then grocery shopping.  That night, Kim cooked ham, hash brown casserole, & carrots.  Dairy Queen for dessert.  Later on was a showing of the movie “Wonder”.

This morning we went to Sherry & James’ for Brunch & a “goodbye” to the 3 headed north.

Nobody sang anything.  This has just been in my head!  They should be home very soon.

We came home Kim’s tending to the laundry, I’ve made my juice & cooked my fish for the week.  Once the dishwasher is done I’ll empty it & Kim will hard boil some eggs for the week.  Pretty tame weekend.  Nice to have Kim’s parents down, we haven’t seen them this year until today.

We still haven’t been to there house since 2007, we’ll likely drive up on a weekend this summer & likely out to the lake a few weekends.

MUSE

6 studio albums, 2 live albums, & a few singles.  They have said that their plans for 2018 is to release a full album & a few singles.  I really got into them in 2006.  I was at a band rehearsal at Todd Bryanton’s house.  He had “Muse” playing as we set up our gear.  I heard it & asked “Is this some new Radiohead I’ve missed?”  He told me it was Muse’s album “Absolution”, their 3rd studio album.

I believe they’re from England.  The comparison to early Radiohead is valid, just don’t tell any member of the Muse super trio (Shhhhh).  I was hooked instantly.  They’ve sort of lost my attention with 2 of their releases though.  They’re both good albums, but they could be better.  Their last 2 singles are great though. “Dig Down” & “Thought Contagion”.  I hope this leads to a great album in the near future.  Here’s a song from each album followed by the two standalone singles…

Now the 2 singles I own.

I fell asleep to “Smashing Pumpkins” the album “Siamese Dream” followed by “Soundgarden” the album “Superunknown”

I exercised to “Foo Fighters” the album “Wasting Light”

During breakfast I listened to “Headstones” the album “Teeth & Tissue”

Had my breakfast & immediately threw it up.  Still feeling fine.

On to empty the dishwasher to “Led Zeppelin” the album “Physical Graffiti”

All is fine, now I’ll hit the shower!

Yesterday was a wasted day, all of my bones & joints were really sore?  I was fine Monday.  Tuesday it was just unbearable though.  Today was better, but still a little tender.  I did half the amount of all of my exercises (just to be safe).  I don’t want to have too many days where I’m not doing something, just makes it more difficult to ramp it up again.

When I went to bed Saturday night for some reason my legs just had a terrible ache.  For a bit there I thought “How does a 38 year old have growing pains?”  I don’t know what it was but I felt fine when I woke up.  I guess it was a glimpse into the near future

I really don’t remember much/anything of 2008.  Apparently I was in a world of pain when I was awake for an hour every day.  My mother & Kim tell me it’s best that I don’t remember.  The little I do remember is that radiation & MRIs suck if you’re extremely claustrophobic like I am.  I can’t remember how long a session of radiation or the length of an MRI was but wow, so not for me.  At least I came out of it well!  Each time I went for an MRI they’d give me a bean bag to throw if something was wrong.  I must have been the worst person to have an MRI done.  Each time I would throw the bean bag because I was terrified, so the bean bag, idea worked once then they must have thought I was the boy that called wolf?  It came to a point that I asked one of my nurses if she could just knock me out before I went into the MRI.  The Benadryl didn’t work the last few times though.  Heights & small spaces are 2 of my big phobias.

Ellen Degeneres is coming to Calgary for a Q & A.  Kim & I would love to go, but somebody, me, is going to far too many concerts this year & we are attending a wedding in Manitoba.  Also, if Kim’s not at work, she doesn’t get paid.  She’s working under contract, no benefits, vacation pay, or sick leave.  I was considering selling my tickets to one of them, but I don’t know if upgrading two tickets in the wheelchair section is possible?  I also bought those tickets for the reason that I WANT to go to the concerts.  I pulled all of the leaves off of our money tree with large portions of the branches too.  I’m terrible with money, but I’m Scottish I should be cheap?  Not with music though.

PEARL JAM

Summer of 1998 I became a fan of Pearl Jam.  I bought the album “Yield” that was released in February of 1998.  I had a summer job, installing air conditioning in a senior’s home with a Tinsmith & his son who was also going into engineering in September at the U of R.  We’d start early at 5 am because the attic would get incredibly hot in the afternoon.  Every morning & afternoon while driving to & from work I was listening to that Pearl Jam album, then I’d play it at home as I fell asleep for a nap.  I went to a music store & bought the previous albums by Pearl Jam.  I couldn’t get enough of them.  “Yield” is one of my top 4 Pearl Jam albums, one of my go to Pearl Jam albums.  I wouldn’t say that I’m a hardcore fan of PJ, but I do like Pearl Jam.  I’ve seen them twice in Saskatoon in 2005 & 2011 while going through my rehab, even saw my physiotherapist at the 2011 show.  The albums “Ten”, “VS”, “Vitalogy”, & “Yield” are my favourites of their HUGE catalogue………..

I hope “Lamb of God” never let “Burn the Priest” see the light of day.  That album is terrible.  I had it, listened to it once & haven’t heard it since.  They used to be called “Burn the Priest” & released one album under that name.  You know it’s a bad “Lamb of God” album if I can’t tolerate it.

I exercised to “Big Wreck” the album “In Loving Memory of…”

500 pushups, 500 crunches, 500 leg lifts, 200 back flexes, 100 triceps pushups

My hobbies prior to cancer were playing baseball from the age of 4 to 17.  Then singing in my high school choir, and singing & playing guitar in a handful of local rock bands.

I threw my arm out at 17 playing on 2 teams.  It still hurt a bit when the next season came around, so I opted out on playing baseball that year & just stopped.

Singing & playing guitar was my next hobby.  I think the last show I played was for a charity that helps those who are handicapped in Saskatchewan called “Kinsmen Telemiracle” just prior to me getting sick & getting help from that charity to purchase the wheelchair van when I could leave the WRC for the evening.

I haven’t felt any source of entitlement or great pride in quite some time.  I do like the fact that I’m able to do more things on my own, & that I’m able to achieve my exercise goals.  I really have nothing to complain about.  I still can’t speak very well.  I can’t sing obviously & practicing guitar is very frustrating.  Before I went into the hospital, I picked up guitar quite easily.  Now, my brain knows what to do, my hands don’t agree, especially my left hand!

I refused to play some songs I didn’t like.  Even my own songs I wrote in the first group I was a part of!  I wrote 3 songs but really didn’t like 2 of them, unfortunately the other guys did.  Found out the hard way I should just write the lyrics.  I guess a cover band is the way to figure things out.

Now I listen to a TON of music, & watch as much Blue Jays baseball as possible.  I follow the NHL as a scoreboard watcher, I only watch a minimal amount of the games though.  GO MONTREAL & EDMONTON!  Those are my teams.

THAT’S ALL FOR THE CANCER TALK FOR NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From the looks of it on Facebook, “Halestorm” is recording their 4th studio album.  I’m guessing a release date by the end of March?

Kristen Bell (Magnum PI) interviewed by Dave (Letterman) Grohl

This is the time of year Facebook really slows down as far as music & other pop culture stuff slows down.  There will be American Thanksgiving, then Christmas.  I have one more album being released this year in a few weeks.  So here I’ll review albums that have meant a LOT to me.

U2 “The Joshua Tree”.  I was a big U2 fan for a long time, I still go back to many U2 albums.  My mother bought me this album for Easter one year, & regretted it the second I wound out my boom box listening to it.

The other BIG U2 album for me was/is “Achtung Baby”

Then the album “Pop” by U2 was released & was met with divided fans.  I loved it, but was struck by a Canadian band in 1992 & another in 1996!

Friday evening a friend of mine from my teenage years when I worked at the Delta hotel came by for a drink.

Watched Blue Jays in :30, & it wasn’t good, Friday evening’s game wasn’t any better.  I expect the from the trade deadline on that this will be a rebuilding team, out with the older expensive players & in with many young players & prospects for the future.  Between 4 players is roughly $78 million.  The disabled list is HUGE at the moment $85 million worth of players injured at the moment.

I spent most of the day Saturday at my parents’ place sitting in the shade on the back patio.  Mom & I were watching my Dad get the hot tub working as Goose & Brewster followed him around as though they were helping!

Kim was cleaning here, I figured Brewster & I should just get out of the way.  When she cleans, she’s on a mission!  Dad picked Brewster & I up around 11:00 am.  Kim was out for a tea with a friend from out of town, came home & started cleaning!

Sunday night Kim & I binge watched the last 5 or 6 shows of “13 Reasons Why” on Netflix.  Hard to watch the last few episodes, fantastic show though!

Kim’s out with her sister right now getting some bedding flowers.  I slept in until about 11:30, I was so comfortable I didn’t want to move, in the end my bladder got me out of bed.  Handled the dishwasher, had breakfast after this I have a few more things to get to!

If you’re here strictly for the cancer news, that’s all I have for you today.

I could post 276 posts of other bands covering songs by Chris Cornell, but I don’t think anyone needs to hear them all.  Yes, he died & he will be missed.  I read some of the newspaper at my parents Saturday a small article regarding his death.  He was on anti-anxiety pills.  He was supposed to take one a day, he took one, played the concert, & took another one.  The members of Soundgarden said he was dizzy & slurring his words.  Later on, in his hotel room he hanged himself “unintentionally” according to his wife.  She said he was not in the type of mood that she would ever think he’d commit suicide, no signs of it at all she said.
