Friday night I went out to The Exchange, The Club side with my dad to see ‘Room 333’ play.  Good show, small venue for a full on hard rock act but it sounded good.  They have a 3 or 4 song EP coming out.  They do have an album on iTunes!  Seeing them live you also get to see drummer Chris Dimas playing drums like nobody else!

I love going to The Exchange to see bands, & people I haven’t seen in a looooong time.  That’s one of very few if not the only venue in town for original artists to play.  The last band I was in played there a lot & only 2 other venues that are now gone.  I do not miss hauling my guitar, amplifier, & speaker cabinet home at 2:30 am after playing for an hour though.  I’m old, I’d need a roadie now “I’m done, now get all of my gear home for me please, $20 OK?”  One of the last shows we played before I got sick was a benefit show for Telemiracle.  They raise money to help those in need of medical equipment.  They gave us $11,000 towards a wheelchair van for me that was $18,000.  It’s a full weekend of entertainment in Saskatoon or Regina for people to call in & donate to the cause.  I think we played 2 benefit shows, with all of the money going to Telemiracle.  I think the last concert I played was for Telemiracle, we hit the stage at 1:00 am.  Ugh, I liked playing to an audience but there were 16 people left at that time, including the bar staff & a sound guy.  The next day I go on to a post board to thank people for coming & I get a response of “Thanks, I was the guy on the left!”  I’ve played to 16 people & 500 people.  With the lights in my eyes it’s hard to tell who’s out there, might as well entertain whoever’s there.  Leave it all on the stage, then pack up your gear in the wee hours of the morning.

We were never rich or famous.  We just played what we wanted to hear.  No sense in having a hobby you don’t like!

My dad, uncle, & I made a trip to the north end of town to the Sobey’s liquor store today in the late afternoon, went back to my parents’ house to slap on some sun lotion & went to the Saskatchewan Roughrider game.  Our season tickets are on the East side of the field.  We were sweating/dying for the first 3 quarters since the east side gets a lot of sun, especially when the game starts at 4:30 pm & it’s +31 Celcius which is 87.8 Fahrenheit.  By the fourth quarter the sun had gone down enough that we were in the shade & we won!  It was a very entertaining football game!

I checked out the price of 18 cans of beer they sell at the stadium for $9 a can, but if you buy it at a liquor store it work out to $25 for 18 cans which is roughly &1.39 a can.  It’s a HUGE increase for profit in the new stadium but I’ve only had 2 beer for $5 each at the old stadium since the washrooms weren’t very convenient.  Now they’re easily accessible but the beer is grossly overpriced.  No beer for this guy!  Today my uncle bought us each a needed cold beer though.  We got to our wheelchair section & I immediately grabbed a bottled water out of our bag I was incredibly hot.

My uncle & cousins flew home today, & Kim gets home today as well.  Kim & her sister drove home by Prince Albert to help their aunt get settled into her new house.  She moved from Prince George in B.C. to be closer to family.  Her husband passed away from 2 heart attacks & I think cancer, while I was in the hospital.  I liked him very cool guy!

Nothing was mentioned about this earlier.  “Slayer” playing ‘Raining Blood’ on Jimmy Fallon!  WOW, I didn’t see that coming!  This was on the evening of Thursday, July 27.

I have issues with 99% of what Gene Simmons says.  The music industry isn’t dead.  Maybe KISS is just not as popular as they were in 70s & 80s?

Alter Bridge live!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And the “Making a Murderer” plot thickens!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Blue Jays are playing 3 games this weekend against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.  After the 4 game winning streak against the Oakland Athletics I hope nobody got a false sense of them making the playoffs.  They still have 7 teams ahead of them for the second wild card spot.  Oakland came into Toronto with the exact same win-loss record as Toronto.  It’s nice to see a winning streak, but the 4 game winning streak didn’t really do anything for them.

By Tuesday I hope this team looks different!  Monday at noon Eastern Time is the trade deadline.  If possible I hope they get a pile of young prospects & a few younger current players.  If they’re able to dump 3 or 4 players that means they could take $60M or $80M off the payroll of old under preforming veterans.  There 6 players they have now that I wouldn’t even consider trading, 3 of them are in the minor league system.  From what I hear they’re keeping the old players with HUGE contracts & loading up the minor league teams with really good prospects if possible.  This won’t be like the trade deadline of 2015.  They won’t be a playoff contender until the 2019 season at the earliest.

Disclaimer “This is not to be taken in a rude tone & is not aimed at any particular reader….ever!”

I put this through email first & realized not everyone likes email? OK, fair enough. I put it on Facebook as a link to the full blog on the website. Please come to the website for the full blog. Whether you get it on facebook, another blog on http://www.wordpress.com, or an email. Depending on your browser, the multiple http://www.youtube.com links will be open so you know what is coming to you before you listen to it. Otherwise I look like an idiot? I put it on facebook yet 11 people came to the site yesterday, twice? 24 views by 11 people? This is stuff I like that I want to share with you. If you’re not coming to the site there’s a REALLY GOOD CHANCE you’re missing something, & I’m the one here with ink on my face. I was a printer, & yes that happened a few times. Bazinga! Some days I’d come home looking like I made a half assed effort to be a Smurf? Why blue? I don’t know….

I’m not angry in any way, I know print doesn’t always come across in the proper tone. 11 people looked at the site out of, what is 117 to 120 subscribers I know 2 or 3 have doubled between facebook & email. That’s just underwhelming. That’s why it’s meant to be interactive, music has been something really meaningful for me since I joined the school band in grade 6, I’m 35 years old now. I understand that what I listen to is not necessarily what others want to hear. If 11 people read this a day to me this is for me alone. I’m not going necessarily promote an event or other individual music related events I’m not attending. So please come to the website? You don’t have to click on every link, only if the description interests you. Did I do something wrong yesterday? Do I smell? I’ve had my monthly shower, I should be clean & odor free until mid-July. I can see the email address and the person subscribing on facebook, or the title of the blog by whoever on this blog site. Don’t be afraid, I don’t bite.

I know that the cool peeps in Albania came to the site. Yes, I know a family in Albania! I get a world map to see what country has read this however many times. Can’t see who from that country has read it, I just know how many times it has been viewed in that country.

Great & all, I want to own my music not subscribe to a radio station for my entire life. I’m only 35 and I expect to hit 80 at the least? iTunes is really good, I just don’t like how the money is distributed. I don’t have the physical space for vinyl albums or even CDs at this point. CDs have dropped in price significantly to keep pace with iTunes.

As far as the subject on “The Simpsons” go, I stopped watching in my very early teens but they’re still around. I’d rather have WB cartoons like the “Bugs Bunny & Tweety Show” around on re-runs.

Comedians saying the world is too politically correct. I can see both sides, yes it might offend you? If it does don’t watch it? Seems simple to me. A lot of it also doesn’t need to be said, so in that case are you going to judge a person on how they express themselves? In the end it’s very subjective.

I have no sympathy for apple. Nobody needs another streaming music site. You’ve got a really good idea with iTunes, it just needs to be revamped $1.50 per album download to the label & $1.50 to Apple. Then $0.00-$7.00 to the artist. $3.00-$10.00 for 1 album. That’s more than 50% off of what the price for a CD was? Sounds good to me? Anybody at Apple or the label going to come up with music ideas?

If it wasn’t a Wednesday, I’d be there in a heartbeat

When these guys got my attention I thought I’d be a fan. I don’t mind the music, but it just rubs me the wrong way?

Meh! They mention Cherry Cola in here.

I need to slow down on my music purchasing on iTunes. But I am curious as to when the next “Tremonti”, “Alter Bridge” & the solo album by Myles Kennedy is being released? I’m assuming “Tremonti’s” other album he recorded while in studio will be released in the first half of next year? He’d have time to tour that album while Myles Kennedy works on his solo album I’ve been hearing about for the last 4 years?

Songs I like. “Jack Johnson” Our first dance at our wedding was “Better Together” by Jack Johnson! Yes, I’ve made “Banana Pancakes” about 3 times.

I don’t think he had much to do with writing the album or else he works really fast. I’m not saying he did or didn’t help out. That’s just really fast to write, record, & master an album. I didn’t purchase the album because it seemed a bit watered down to make it easy to listen to for mass consumption?

I have a love/hate relationship with American Idol. I don’t like it because it’s another talent contest where the judges tell you who you can vote for after they choose the top however many. I like it because it’s great marketing tool.

Top 10 feuds in music. Some of these have been recently resolved after many years!

Phillip Phillips, yep one of the American Idol winners. Always compared to Dave Matthews, and for a good reason. Kim and I went to his show earlier this year, good times & good music! Too bad that he played to ¼ of the hockey arena that wasn’t 60% occupied. His 2nd album hadn’t been re leased yet. He did play the 1st single from the album though. Man, do I love me some Phillip Phillips tunes.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXRODrspQpc 1st single from the 2nd album “Behind the Light”

Here’s a few tunes from his first album “The World From The Side of The Moon” both albums are on iTunes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oozQ4yV__Vw

So, here’s what I did last night. I went to the Exchange & saw 4 bands play. It was a CD release event for Mitch’s group Room 333. Awesome show! I like The Exchange lots of great people and great music for me anyways. 4 local original music groups last night. I must be getting old, 2am is not the time I want to be out until. I don’t miss carrying my 4 speaker cabinet, my amplifier along with 2-4 guitars in the wee hours of the morning, but that’s the only downside to being a member of a local rock or metal group. Our 1 acoustic show was great. I bring in my acoustic guitar only, plug it in and away we go. WAY easier than hauling $5,000 of electric gear around in a $50 car that’s “…falling apart”.

I should explain the whole Freedom of Speech thing. If I’ve got you on facebook or email or even if we’ve had a pleasant conversation I’m glad you’re my friend/family! I don’t want to be that moron that you have to tolerate being around, that’s wasn’t how I acted before at all. I pretty much have to grow up again and my parents, Kim, extended family and good friends are always with me even if you live in a different country or province, and you’re helping me grow up and be a better person. Getting me back to how I was before cancer!

I hope everyone had fun watching what is usually among the worst games of the NFL season.  I don’t watch NFL football, I don’t have the attention span to watch a 4+ hour football game, so I just watch the half time show.  Bruno Mars was awesome!  The Red Hot Chili Peppers, not so much.  I’m pretty sure Bruno Mars will be the standard for pop music in the future.  He’ll never touch Micheal Jackson, but in generations down the road kids will grow up with him as the top pop artist of their time, since they probably won’t know who Micheal Jackson was.  Kind of like last year on American Idol.  “OK, this week is ‘The Beatles’ week”………….”Who?”  Some of the contestants had no clue who The Beatles were or what songs they wrote.  That made me feel old!  Every musician should know who The Beatles are, you wouldn’t have your favourite musicians without them!  You don’t need to like them, just know about them, Elvis and The Rolling Stones.

In Canada we don’t get the Super Bowl commercials.  Maybe on the NFL Sunday package, I don’t know?  I don’t really watch much NHL either.  I watch a couple of periods if I pass by it and Montreal or Edmonton are playing I check out the score, their standings, and watch some of the game.  CFL and Blue Jays baseball I watch as much as possible.  Since both are only 3 hours long and I like the speed of a CFL game (all of the games, 4 a weekend).

I know lots of people find baseball boring but I played it for so long, 4 years old-17 years old.  I stopped after the season in grade 11 (17 years old) because my arm was terribly sore from playing 3rd base mostly in the city league and back up 3rd base on the high school team.  I’d ice my arm constantly. We had a tournament in Calgary one year with the city team and we were playing in about an inch of snow, I think? I went back to Uncle Kent and Aunt Leanne’s house at sat in their jacuzzi to warm up!

I don’t think I could watch a live baseball game, I wouldn’t be able to follow that tiny ball wherever it would go.  That’s the among the very few sporting events I’d prefer to watch on TV.

Yes, I had my birthday party everyone came to  Brewster’s for supper.  Laurie and Chris had to get Annabelle from Laurie’s parents so they didn’t make it back to the condo.  I think people started going home around 11pm?  The party kept going until 3am.  I’m too old for that.  Nobody had a full glass of the homemade beer I had.  Just a sip to taste it.  Yesterday Shayne and Mitch stooped by to pick up their booze they had left here.  So I gave them each a 1L of my beer.  I can’t drink 24L of beer before it turns bad?!  Everyone had a good time in the end, some more than others not naming any names…………………………Loafer!

As for a music review check out youtube, these 3 people in Regina have their own youtube page.  Ben Winoski (classical guitar), Todd Bryanton (our 2nd drummer after Jordan) and Chris Dimas (the current drummer for Mitch’s group Room 333, after Todd)

We were in McClain* today left at 11:30 or so for Sylvia Coghill’s funeral.  My mother would play any card game with Sylvia and their mutual friend Grace and Grandpa James once a week or so.  Until Sylvia’s family moved her to a care home in Regina.

All of you gamers out there.  PS4 or X-Box 1 or whatever Nintendo is releasing?  I don’t miss video games in the least.  I do get excited whenever I see the commercial for Batman: Arkham Asylum though.  I always think it’s a new Batman movie with Christian Bale, since the graphics are so good.  Then I remind myself that it’s a commercial for a video game and die a little inside.

Music news.  Alter Bridge 4 is finished and being mixed as far as I know.  I know they’re done recording at least and have announced a European tour starting in September.  For those who don’t know who they are, it’s the 3 guys from Creed with Myles Kennedy the vocalist for the Slash solo album.  Slash with Apocalyptic Love.  This is off of the first Alter Bridge album and the first cover song we learned and played at our show in my old high school.  Mitch was just finishing grade 12 there. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SPNxDLSh7WI   All of the 3 albums that are out I can listen to from front to back.
