Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

I fell asleep to “Iron Maiden” the album “The Final Frontier” & “Sum 41” the album “Order in Decline”

I exercised to “Billie Eilish” the album “When we die, where do we all go?” Kim & I saw her on Ellen & were both hooked!

No, I don’t hear voices in my head or anything else like that.  More often than not I overreact when something goes wrong.  I’m not perfect & I’m EXTREMELY critical about myself.  Lately I’ve been more conscious about relaxing in any instance when things go awry.  I could flip out about our A/C.  What good would that do?  I could have thrown a tantrum about having to redo our iTunes, what good would come of that?  I’d throw a tantrum, then feel just as small as the people who heard it.  Nobody deserves that.  I’ve made mistakes, & I learn from them.  Mostly I think to myself “How could I have handled that situation better?”  Much like when I was working.  If I made a mistake on a certain job, the salesperson or bindery workers would let me know & I’d approach it a different way.

At the end of the day, I just want things to be done right the first time, which doesn’t always happen.

I know I’m not perfect but that’s not going to stop me from trying to be better every day.  A guy with glasses, in a wheelchair, who is also weak with his arms, & who has anger issues, is not a guy to look up to.  I probably still have a long road ahead to address the effects of brain cancer, but it could be much worse.

I don’t take criticism well, why?  I know my speech & my strength aren’t anywhere near perfect.  I’m hard enough on myself.  If you can’t understand me, ask me to repeat what I said, I may say it louder, but I’m not yelling at you by any means.  I’m trying to speak clearly & a bit louder, just to make it clearer for you.  I’m sorry if anyone takes it as anger.

It was incredibly wrong of me to pick at people & point out, what I considered to be, their flaws in the beginning of this entire thing.  I did that to too many people, even one would be too many, my sincerest apologies to all.  Anyone could have turned the table on me & pointed out my MANY flaws.

I spent Tuesday with my parents in case the A/C went out again.  The guy was looking at it when I left, he’ll be here today with a valve rush ordered from B.C.  I guess the one they’ve replaced once is sticking & not able to allow the coolant through when it should.  Makes sense to me.  I hope this does the trick.

I’m usually hot anyways, but with it being so hot in here lately, I was cold at 3:00 am Monday night.  Kim had the comforter & I woke her up.  “What are you doing?” she asks, “Trying to get some of the comforter.  The sheet isn’t enough with the A/C working overnight, I’m cold.”

My parents were making a trip to the cabin to drop off some stuff.  Brewster & I tagged along on Tuesday.  We were there long enough to have a bathroom break, drop off a few things, & for Brewster to get covered in burs.  I tried to get some off but he yelped in pain.  He needs to see the groomer anyways, hopefully she can buzz most of them off, poor guy.  He sat on my lap the whole way back he just couldn’t get comfortable.

Great way to start the week, turn on my computron to see that a new “Big Wreck” album is set for full release on August 30th.  The tour hits Regina on Wednesday, November 13th!

Now if Tool does what they’ve said they will do, that makes 2 VERY anticipated album releases on the same day!

Speaking of “Tool”, here’s the artwork for the new album!

I don’t think “Tool” will release a single or preorder.  They prefer the listener to take in the album all at once.  I preorder on iTunes, however I’ll listen to the single at most 3 times.  I also prefer to listen to a full album.

1,200  That’s a TON of metal shows  I’m guessing I’ve been to roughly 300 shows in general, some metal, most aren’t.

I hope “Breaking Benjamin” fans are up for an acoustic album because here it comes.

I only have the one album everybody’s heard at least one song off of.  “Hysteria”.  Years ago before I was sick, I hit the “Autofill” button on iTunes & was flooded with random music, most of which I didn’t want & deleted ASAP.  Sorry Anne Murray, great voice but I don’t listen to your music.  “Hysteria” was among the 6 or 8 albums I kept.

No, I don’t listen to this much at all.  Most 1980s rock & metal aren’t for me.  I was born in January, 1980.  My parents didn’t listen to hard rock or metal from that time, well, never metal.  I grew up on Jimmy Buffet, Dire Straits, Glass Tiger, The Monkees, The Partridge Family, Fine Young Cannibals (which I own on CD), Queen, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, etc.

The more you share this, the more readers I get.  No, I’m not profiting from this in any way.  I can’t tell who’s reading this but thank you! Word of mouth is the only way of promoting this.

Don’t feel as though you have to click on every link.

My sciatic nerve is driving me nuts.  I get up at 8:00 or 9:00am sit around in pain, watch TV, movies, Blu-rays, DVDs, listen to music, & read a bit.  When Kim comes home I’m bored.  I want to exercise & do something productive or just be a regular person for one day with a 9:00-5:00 job or 8:00-4:00 as it was.  Great I survived cancer aka I’m alive that’s the upside, I got really lucky & I don’t take that for granted.  A month & a half wasted because of a pinched nerve????????????????  Ridiculous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The year sort of ended the same way it started in that more celebrities passed away?  Didn’t we start the year off with a steady week & a half with a celebrity passing away every day & a smattering of more throughout the year?  Prince, Lemmy, David Bowie, Leonard Cohen, George Michael, Carrie Fisher, her mother Debbie Reynolds, etc.?

How rockers reacted to Carrie Fisher’s death, on twitter.

Other than being in almost constant pain for roughly a month & a half, my break over the holidays was nothing to complain about!  I got to see lots of family from out of town, Tim Wong, a lifetime friend Edmonton as well, Oh & Elka came from Edmonton too.  4 Christmas’s rolled into 9 days.  My family, Kim’s family, a visit with Tim, & a visit with Elka.

Oh I’m a big fan of his album “Chasing Yesterday” by Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds.  This should be great too!

Soundgarden shared it, & I love this song, not Johnny Cash’s lame cover of it…….

Another top 25 songs of 2016

I don’t know what it is about “Animals as Leaders” or “Gojira” but something just isn’t right for me?  Both groups are right on the edge for me?

Alter Bridge behind the song “You Will Be Remembered”.  With Mark Tremonti doing his solo project, & Myles Kennedy singing on Slash’s solo albums & now that Myles Kennedy has finished his solo album.  They make plans 3 years in advance once a recording or tour is done.

Best trash metal albums of the 1990s.  I wasn’t even into “grunge” at the time, so metal had no chance.  This should be news for me too.

Took me a while but now I have & listen to Anthrax, Slayer, & Megadeth.

Big Wreck already has a pre-order for February 3rd

Paramore has completed the recording process for their 5th studio album

I hear that Ed Sheeran has an album recorded & ready to go.

Royal Blood is still in the studio.  LANGUAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There’s a ton of rumours going around that we’ll hear a new Foo Fighters album

Soundgarden has plans to release a new album

System of a Down is getting together to write & possibly record if all goes well.

Possibly Canadian rockers “Econoline Crush” who have just signed a new contract with a new label who want a new album ASAP?

I’m positive there will be more coming down the pipe in 2017!

Lamb of God shared it…….

Loud Wire’s top 5 rock/metal albums of 2016

What the heck?  We almost lost Eddie Vedder & I missed it?

10 legendary bands without a platinum album.  I know why!  They’re all punk & metal groups aka all in very small niche markets, a TON of people don’t like this type of music.  I get it, I was exactly the same until the age of 18 or so.

Here’s a more complete list of musicians we lost in 2016

Misplays of the year Jose Bautista vs. Roughned Odor.  This was in May, 2nd Month of the season.

This was in October, in the playoffs.  BEST   SIGN   EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I did it.  I watched my first full game of NHL hockey on December 29th.  Since the most recent strike or lockout, I’ve not watched an entire period of one NHL game.  Probably portions of 7 periods of 7 games in 3 or 4 years.  I watched L.A. Kings vs. my second favourite team the Edmonton Oilers who won 3-1.  Hockey’s not the same as it used to be.  It’s still tough for me to sit through an entire NHL game.  I find the larger ice surface over sea in the Olympics or World Juniors to be a faster, wide open game.

I’m still not sold on this group.

Myles Kennedy & Mark Tremonti talk new album & the move to 7 string guitars.

No idea who these bands are, but it’s an interesting podcast to listen too on occasion.  It’s on every 2nd Thursday I believe?

….and the hits just keep on coming??????????????????????

NME’s top 50 of the year.  I listened to 3 of them & they’re not bad, number 1 is a very good album!

They did have this on the list which is good also!

David Draiman didn’t completely ruin this but there will never be another legendary rock act like “Queen”

I was never a diehard fan of Canada’s rock legends “The Tragically Hip”.  For me they were there, very good at what they do, I have 4 of their monstrous catalogue of albums & I listen to them on occasion.  The way they’ve had to end their career is terrible.  The lead singer, Gord Downie, has been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer.  Raw deal, bad news.

^^This was written long before hurricane Katrina it was also banned from radio with respect to hurricane Katrina.

Yes, this is on facebook

What I do Monday-Friday? I like to get up when Kim gets up to go to work, 6:00 am, 6:30 am, or at least 7:00 am. I like to get up & get everything done so I can do nothing so Kim & I can spend the evening together.

I get up & have my usual breakfast of water, black coffee, & a glass of blended fruit & vegetables that I make on the weekends. I sit down & watch one of the night time talk shows I recorded from the previous night. After that, I get my butt in gear & exercise for 1 hour or a little more. I shower every second day either after my exercises or before bed if Kim & I go walking when she gets home from work. Once that’s done I come into our computer room & start grabbing stuff for the blog. After that………….lunch, then back in here. I then hit the couch around 2:30 or 3:00 pm. I watch “Prime Time Sports with Bob McCown”. Kim calls on her way home to see if we need anything & what my thoughts are for supper, or whatever we do or don’t have planned.

I woke up to that same ’70s compilation

I exercised to “Lamb of God” the album “Sacrament”

If you have the album you don’t need a single from iTunes. A single on iTunes is just that, no B-Sides included? I’ve got 60 Foo Fighters B-Sides Most of them were bought on CD. A single & two B-Sides on most of them. Singles on iTunes are nothing more than a cash grab for Apple, who’s stock is on a steady decline from what I hear? I don’t need or want singles on iTunes, I purchase full albums that have the singles on them, so I don’t purchase them. If Apple wants to make money, sell a single along with the 2 or 3 B-Sides! I was never into marketing, but I think that would work? Here are some B-Sides you’ll never hear at the moment if you get your music from iTunes!

Broken bones will heal. Words can hurt, especially if the victim has a good memory & tends to dwell on such things. Swearing is just words, I don’t mind them, they’re words with no meaning for me. I’m not going to use them since the entire world has labeled them as bad. If you’re offended by profanity, that’s fine…………..I get it. You’re the one who has defined it as a bad word, not me. This may seem odd to many but if you want to hurt ME in particular, swearing has little to no effect on me.

I fell asleep to “I Mother Earth” the album “Scenery + Fish”

Top 50 hard rock & metal guitarists.

I Mother Earth is marking this year as the 20th anniversary of “Scenery + Fish” playing the entire album front to back & some other stuff!!!!! “Scenery + Fish” was their break through album, their 2nd of 4 albums released when I was 16 years old. It went triple platinum in Canada! This also marks 20 years since they played in Saskatchewan. I saw them at the age of 16 in Saskatoon on the tour for this album!

Hi everyone…yes been a bit quiet around here lately. That is about to change. 2016 is shaping up to be a pretty cool year for us and we just wanted to tell you a bit of what’s going on. This year is actually the 20th anniversary of our 2nd album, Scenery & Fish. That album did some pretty damn good things for us and took us around the world. It went triple platinum here in Canada, with four singles released from it. That shit just doesn’t happen anymore. So… we thought we’d celebrate a little. We’re hitting the road with S+F 20 Celebrating 20 years of Scenery & Fish. We’re going to play the whole album front to back as well as a bunch of other stuff to round the night out. A nice long evening with your pals, The Mothers. We have other announcements to come that fall under the S & F umbrella so please stay tuned…We’ve been busy. Anywhoo, here are the first couple of shows announced, more to come. Yell if you want us. Friday April 22, O’Brian’s Event Centre, Saskatoon. Saturday April 23, Casino Regina, Regina”

Nickelback” start work on new album.

Yes, I know it’s the “in” thing to hate “Nickelback”, what’s the point though? How about just don’t listen to them. I’m not a fan either. I like “Foo Fighters”, “Big Wreck”, “Alter Bridge”, “Tool”, etc. There’s likely at least 5 haters for every fan of these bands.

10 years” are back. I didn’t even know they were gone, I’ve never heard of them?

Top 10 important rock albums. I don’t necessarily listen to all of these, but I’d have to agree with this list. You could easily add more. The BIG ones for me are Nirvana, Radiohead, & Led Zeppelin! Just the “Physical Graffiti album from Led Zeppelin. Why aren’t the Rolling Stones on here?

I always get these 2 songs messed up. Just because they both have “rain” in the title. No Slayer’s not one of them.

Today’s workout was brought to you by “Muse” the album “Absolution”

Squats aren’t that fun. Muscles I haven’t ever thought about are killing me today. I’ve done a total of 100 squats this week. That’s enough squats for the week. I changed it up & did 50 push ups & yoga to stretch some painful muscles. I’ve got the mind of someone in their 20s & the body of someone in their 90s. Yet I haven’t turned 36 yet?

We all knew American Idol wouldn’t go on forever. I’m assuming people got bored with the platform. Not all of the winners went on to stardom, yet kids continued to audition. I couldn’t point out what went wrong other than it’s been around for 15 seasons, & FOX wanted something new? That’s just my guess. It’s weird to think some kids don’t know a world without American Idol? It’s a great marketing tool, but how many winners of the show went on to large success? I could only name a few at best. Where did the 2014 winner go?

I saw some photos of some artists. “Kongos” is finishing the vocals for their album. “Linkin Park” is in the studio Chester Bennington was shown recording vocals. “Alter Bridge” are writing/rehearsing for their 5th album & will be in the studio “soon”. Looks promising for new music this year. If anyone is coming to a place near you, I encourage you to go out & support your preferred musician. This free music is hurting the industry. I should get out to more shows as well. We have an actual money tree, but it just grows leaves, not printed money……………BAD, MONEY TREE, BAD!!!!!!!!

Drum off Dave Grohl vs. Animal!

Big Wreck was playing this song, on stage, in Saskatoon at Edgefest 1999. I decided to jump in the mosh pit, then a body came flying at me, while holding another crowd surfer, he or she landed on my face. I left Edgefest when it was over with a broken nose & blood all over me.

Today I was listening to the same song while folding laundry, & didn’t break any bone or cartilage! 16 years & I’m still a bad ass!

I like Mark Tremonti, but it is VERY subjective. The award should be renamed the most popular guitarist.

Songs I like, “Walk off the Earth” had to pass on “The Verve Pipe” & “Volbeat”. Not a fan of “Volbeat” I got 3 albums from iTunes & they got old quick. “The Verve Pipe” I have because I had to learn one song, I haven’t really listened to the entire album.

Why does a band even have to make them anymore? MTV, Much Music, VH1, etc. don’t play music videos 24 hours a day anymore. I know Much Music plays 1 hour a day of just music videos. So why does anybody have to make a music video? Unless you go to www.youtube.com, a Facebook page, or a website, there is a good chance you won’t see it?

What were we up to this weekend? Gerry came down from Saskatoon for his birthday. So on Saturday we went to James & Sherry’s place in the late afternoon, then Brewsters East for dinner, then back here to our place for a few beverages & a visit until 1:00am or so? Sunday, Kim went out for groceries while I watched baseball. We had supper then watched a few episodes of Scandal, 4 episodes left of the 2nd season.

I forgot to turn on the stereo for my workout. I was part way through my workout & then realized it was quiet. “Ah, the remote’s way over there. It can stay there!”. I did make a fruit/vegetable smoothie after though. I just wash & cut up what’s needed then toss it in our Vitamix blender, that usually lasts me 3 or 4 days. My kitchen music was “Dream Theater’s” ‘Awake’ album.

I’m not on a diet. I exercise & watch what I eat. If we go out for a meal on the weekend, I MAKE IT COUNT! If I’m watching baseball or the CFL I have a beer or 2 that’s all, usually it’s water, cranberry juice or black coffee & small amounts of alcohol on “the weekend”.

I still have a list of 4 albums that should be coming out this year yet no release dates at the moment. Tool, I have no idea about, it will be released when it’s done, I’m not holding my breath on that one. Coheed & Cambria will be released October 16th but I’m waiting to hear the iTunes preview before I grab it. LANGUAGE!!!

Stephen Colbert’s Top 5

Jack White vs. The Black Keys? I’m not a fan of either, but really a feud between musicians? Does either one need press at the moment?

Same sex marriage ruling should be a feature film. Important ruling in the USA!

Yes, “Ladybaby” is weird. Japanese pop music mixed with heavy metal? WEIRD is an overstatement.

I like U2, sue me. U2 preforming with a young audience member.

I guess the show was in 2010 & “Lamb of God’s” vocalist, Randy Blythe, was arrested in 2012?

Mark Tremonti on writing a metal riff.

Will there be a feud between Kanye West & Corey Taylor (Slipknot/Stone Sour singer)?

Metal fans are happier than other music fans? While were on the topic, I think I’ll have a nap & fall asleep to “Lamb of God”, one of the few artists on iTunes that is still working properly. Didn’t nap because it’s SHARK WEEK! On Discovery!!!!!

A kid drumming along with “Dream Theater”? WOW!

I think “Marilyn Manson’s” 15 minutes of fame expired years ago. He’s a shock rocker. I’d take Rob Zombie over Marilyn Manson any day, but I guess it’s subjective in the end.

Clutch to release new album “Psychic Warfare” on October 2nd 2015!!!! No single yet, here’s the title song from their previous album.

Rock It Out Blog for Wednesday, July 8th

I found a Canadian support center for Apple. Their iTunes Match has been royally screwed up since the launch of their streaming site, Apple Music, on Tuesday, June 30th. Kim will call them after work. I called but they have trouble understanding me & they asked for a serial number I can’t get to? I got through in a matter of seconds, hopefully Kim will too. Hopefully it can be fixed or they will tell us how to delete our very cheap subscription & use home sharing. Seems as though many households are deleting their subscription. $27.99/year to leave your computer off & stream your music library through whatever 5 devices that are approved. As for Apple Music, it’s really more of a radio station. Shows hosted by celebrities & music for rent, you stop paying the monthly fee of $9.99, your music disappears. You don’t technically own it, you rent it. Just because I don’t want it doesn’t mean others don’t.

The new Finger Eleven album sounds like a return to their original sound. There are 3 songs available with a pre-order. The lead off single “Wolves & Doors” for me is the weakest track of the 3. “Five Crooked Lines” & “Gods of Speed” I find to be more towards their sound on the first 2 or 3 albums. Sorry, couldn’t find “Gods of Speed” with decent sound.

“Lamb of God’s” album sounds promising as well!

Songs I like. “Lenny Kravitz” 2 greatest hits albums

It’s a music blog so whoever likes it can subscribe!

I’m going to leave this first paragraph until I have 100 subscribers

PLEASE share this link & pass it around to those that might enjoy it. Subscribe from a desktop or laptop computer with your email where it says “follow”. Then you will receive a confirmation email that I don’t know what it says. Follow the instructions. After that you’ll receive each post in your email inbox on any device. Let’s get some more people on board? http://www.amillionmilesawayblog.com Don’t feel as though you need to click on every link. I’ll do this so nobody else has to. I’m on facebook & email only. I’ve found people on face book that I’ve lost track of over the years, everybody has an email address for social media sites, might as well us it for this blog. I have no intention of putting this on twitter, instagram, facebook, etc. it’s an old fashion website. Up there are instructions on how to subscribe. I’m at 44 subscribers so all 44 of you please help me out? DO I HEAR 50, 50, 50? Don’t worry, I won’t use the email addresses unless told to.
Even though you subscribe to the blog I always recommend coming to the site to read it in case someone comments on a topic. Comments are always welcomed. If you’re using “Google Chrome” as a web browser on a PC the http://www.youtube.com links will be open to show you the title, artist & a still photo of the video. Mac computers I know nothing about.

Give the site a minute or 2 to load all of the links & everything should be fine.

Foo Fighters live at award show, 3 songs!

102 Nirvana songs ranked by Rolling Stone

Is this where the music industry is headed? This isn’t the first time I’ve heard of bands doing things based the fans financial input.

That’s a TON of Megadeth news all at once.

I get stuck on an album or 1 particular band. Whatever it is at the time, it sometimes takes a month or so to get it out of my system. I don’t listen to just that album or band for a month straight, I throw in other stuff but there’s always something I’ll constantly put on. Queens of the Stone Age, Foo Fighters, Big Wreck, Muse, Iron Maiden, Paramore, Tool, A Perfect Circle, Nat King Cole, Norah Jones, Lamb of God, Trivium, etc. Right now it’s all about Paramore for me, Tuesday it will likely switch to Halestorm?

Catch you Sunday for the weekend update.
