Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

Welcome back to the program!  You’re here so if you like what you see, might as well subscribe?  Either on Facebook or with your email in the bottom right corner, it’s really that easy & it’s free!  I know you want to tell your friends, go ahead!

Exercise total for 2020.

15,360 Curls w/ 20 pound dumb bells

8,850 Shoulder raises/Chest presses w/ 10 pound dumb bells

23,000 Crunches

24,650 Leg lifts

10,900 Squats

13,065 Back flexes

Walking distance was 1,046 meters=3,487 feet (That’s only 3 times walking)

Down & Up 128 stairs

I was going to weigh myself, then I realized something…it’s just a number that means nothing.  People see me and often think I’m under 200 pounds.  I don’t know if that’s flattery or not?  I know that my weight will never be 1??.  I graduated high school in June of 1998 at 185 pounds and I was 213 pounds on July 1st 2020.  I feel good, I’m still cancer free since December 31st 2008, & I’m rarely sick now.

I know it’s been a terrible year for a LOT of people.  People dying, sick, lost their job, housing, some are starving, etc.  I wanted to catch up, but not have the world go through a situation like this!  Please don’t take any of this as bragging, as it’s not intended to come off that way at all.  I’m lucky enough that close friends & family have been OK this year, & I worked my butt of to get down to 213 pounds, I haven’t been that light since 1999.  Decent year of exercise/rehabilitation.  I stopped exercising after my morning exercises on Friday, December 18, 2020.  I’ve been doing some stretching.

Kim bought me a guitar, with her overtime money, for my 40th birthday on January 30th, 2020.  We had both been saving money prior to that and I ordered a PRS S2 Custom 22 semi-hollow guitar.  I ordered it on January 15th, and with a backorder delay followed by Covid delays, it arrived at the end of September.  I had been saving for my amplifier, footswitch, and a PRS S2 McCarty 594.  The PRS S2 McCarty 594 will be my next purchase & endgame in 4-6 years.  I ended up going shopping at the music store on Monday, December 14th 2020.  I bought the amplifier, footswitch, and this very nice special Epiphone guitar.  The amplifier is also in this photo.  I nicknamed this guitar as “Wannabe” since it’s made by Epiphone but is shaped VERY similar to a PRS guitar….

If you’re keeping score that was 3 guitars & an amplifier in 1 year.  I guess we’re not poor, we were just saving money for bigger purchases.  I’ll shut up about being broke now.  3 guitars & an amplifier in 1 year will never happen or need to happen again.  I now own 6 electric guitars & one acoustic.

Let’s get this year headed the right way!  We’ll go in quietly with our masks on, stay 6 feet apart & win me a guitar!  I’m currently trying to win a “Paul’s Guitar” SE.  This was my runner up to the PRS S2 McCarty 594 further below.  If you’d like to help me win the guitar, please do so or win it for yourself.  I’ll put instructions & a link below this video describing it.

Below is the video to watch and win the guitar.  You have to subscribe & leave a comment stating who your favourite guitar player is.  Hover over the bottom right corner of the video after you’ve pushed play.  Click on the word “YOUTUBE” to go to the site, this link will take you directly to the site & video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5S-hLFqPOGI&t=12s&ab_channel=RobertBaker.  You can leave your comment there below the video so he sees it. The guitar in Canada is $327 more than in the USA.  This won’t cost you anything to enter & you’ll likely enjoy his guitar videos.  He’s a great guitar player that I watch on www.youtube.com.  My birthday is on January 30th, this would be a VERY cool early birthday present!  If you win and want to ship it to me, ask him to contact Christopher Fraser, I’m in the comments and I’ll give him my shipping address personally.  This is the first guitar I’ve heard where the split-coil pickups actually make a noticeable difference sonically.  I love this guitar, I want this guitar, but I don’t want to pay $1300 for it.  GO TEAM GO!

I will definitely buy the McCarty 594 whether I win the “Paul’s Guitar” or not.  The “Paul’s Guitar” definitely won’t be replacing the role of another guitar & it will get played VERY often.

The PRS S2 McCarty 594 is a must purchase for me.  My next & final purchase as far as guitar stuff goes.  The PRS SE Paul’s Guitar is a VERY close 2nd but also incredibly different.  If I win this guitar, the PRS S2 McCarty 594 will sound the same but look different.  It’ll be red & in the shape of a Les Paul.

For me, I like variety with my guitars.  Each guitar I own has something different about it from the others now that could be one of many things.  The bridge, pickups, electronics, tuning machines, the tuning itself, brand name, colour, body shape, etc.

I’m not a master guitar player at all, but I really don’t like tuning each string of a guitar to something completely different.  I watched another youtube video over the holidays.  The guy stated he had 60 guitars but plays 6 of them most of the time.  I don’t want to be that type of person, if I’m not using something, it’s just taking up space & could be used by someone else.  Even with what I have at the moment, I play all of my guitars within 2 days, or I learn a song in a certain tuning, keep playing it, & learn other songs in that tuning.

Most guitar players on youtube have jobs involving guitars and have anywhere from 10-90 guitars, 4-40 amplifiers, & 20-150 effect pedals.  I don’t have a job & I’m not on youtube.  I have one amplifier and I only need one amplifier.  I have 3 effect pedals & don’t need or want more.  There’s always another guitar on a guitar players list, at some point you gotta say “Why?” & “That money can be used elsewhere!”  “I like to play”.

My body needed a bit of a break.  This year I expect even more effort from myself in many areas of my life.  To say it the shortest way possible, I want to work harder & be a better person.  Moving things up one gear in a year isn’t enough for me this year, I think I should move up 3 gears over the course of a year.  I don’t know how to measure that but I do expect more of myself.  As with most years for me, I need to get my act together and walk with my walker more.  2020 wasn’t an easy year for me, I pushed myself quite hard.  Still wasn’t as rough on me as it was on so many other people though.

My brother won the GRAND PRIZE of “REVV” amplifiers 12 days of Christmas giveaways!  He won their fancy brand new REVV amplifier on December 23!  So happy for him!  Go to the 46 minute mark to see it!

Kim saw a pre-Christmas sale on pillows.  We needed new sleeping pillows on our bed.  They’re made by a company called “Purple”.  Originally they started making wheelchair cushions from this product.  They now make pillows & mattresses.  The mattresses are guaranteed for 10 years.  We’ll be saving for one of those, were a year or 2 away from needing a new mattress.  Yes, our pillows are HEAVY, like 10 pounds heavy.  You don’t lift them or fold them.  You can adjust the height of the pillow by inserting or removing 2 thinner pieces into the case.

As for actual Christmas celebrations, on December 24th my brother, sister-in-law, parents, Kim & I all drove over to my Grandparents condo/senior home.  We stood outside of their suite on the ground floor in the parking lot.  We gave them a gift basket of a TON of treats & goodies.  We then sang them “We wish you a Merry Christmas” as my brother played it on guitar.  Even had a lady on the 3rd floor step out onto her balcony and join in on kazoo!

Christmas day was just Kim & I at my parents place, odd but still good.  My brother & sister-in-law opted to stay home, as did my grandparents, which makes sense.  My cousin from Winnipeg, Manitoba would have been here too but Covid, so that made sense too.  It was a smaller gathering than we would have liked, but we did what we could.  We did all open gifts over zoom or facetime, so that was nice.  I asked for money as a gift and spent most of it the next day on guitar stuff from amazon.  Multiple gauges of strings, a guitar maintenance tool kit, & some locking tuners for one of my guitars.  My parents did get me a gig bag for Christmas, but it didn’t get here until the 30th.

On December 26th our Christmas was over.  The tree came down, the decorations were put away & paint preparation started for our renovations.  2 TVs were taken off the walls, patching & sanding was done, paint & rollers were bought, furniture was moved, etc.  I just stayed out of the way, Kim’s been on a mission ever since.  I stayed in this room out of the way.  I worked on/cleaned up a few guitars & practiced a LOT.

We watched a movie from Netflix over the holidays it was called “Death to 2020”, so not for kids even though many lived through 2020.  It’s a scripted film with real news clips from the year, with a very recognizable cast.  I thought it was great!  Kim thought it was OK.

I don’t want you to think I was in this room doing nothing while Kim’s been painting our condo suite.  I figure I owe it to you to hopefully show you some progress I’ve made on guitar.  Please remember a few things.  I strongly LOATHE being in any type of photograph & I get VERY self-concious.  If you think it sucks that’s fine, as of 2011 I couldn’t tie my shoelaces.  People used to pay to see me play & sing on stage.

You’ll hear me play abbreviated versions of 3 Foo Fighters’ songs & 1 “Big Wreck” song.  My 2 favourite bands & have been since the ‘90s.  Yes, the guitar I’m playing in the “Big Wreck” video is signed by Ian Thorney of Big Wreck.  They’re OK, you’ll hear “That Song” by Big Wreck, & “Low”, “The Pretender”, & “All My Life” by Foo Fighters.  Need to clean them up, but that’s what you get for now.

My favourite album of the year was easily ‘Moral Panic’ by “Nothing but Thieves”.  I didn’t get much in terms of new music since there wasn’t a lot of stuff released that I was into but I can think of 7 releases coming this year off the top of my head.  I’ll be streaming again while putting a minimal amount of money aside for a guitar.  I still don’t like the idea of streaming music, neither do a LOT of working musicians.

“Foo Fighters” new album ‘Medicine at Midnight’ will be released on Friday, February 5th.  If I get cancer again this February 5th, I’m gonna blame my favourite band but still call it an odd coincidence!

The first time I saw the title before hearing the song, I honestly thought they released a “Genesis” cover!  I love me some Genesis but a new Foo Fighters song is more than welcomed!

CANADIAN BIKINI SEASON IS OFFICAILLY OVER!

We Canadians had our Thanksgiving this weekend which officially marks the end of Canadian Bikini season.  I’ve never heard of a date to commence bikini season but we’ve had too much food now to look respectable in a bikini.  Picture me in a bikini………let that sink in.  Most Canadians likely celebrated on Sunday.  My grandmother celebrated her 85th birthday on Friday.  My family had Thanksgiving/birthday supper on Saturday.  I ate WAY too much & felt a little bloated/tired the next day.  I did stay away from stuffing, gravy, & my least favourite food of all….potatoes!  Everything else & pumpkin/caramel cheese cake were greatly enjoyed!

Other than it being a Saturday & masks until we were inside, it was a relaxing break at my parents’ house & as usual we were all tired and full by 7:30 pm.

What am I thankful for this year?  LOTS!  My family & friends, all of which are in good health during this pandemic.  The fact that I have more than the basic necessities to live.  My amazing wife!  I’m pretty happy just to be alive despite this weird world.  Mostly I’m thankful that I’ve realized that we don’t have to catch up to anyone & I now feel like I can relax a bit & enjoy a few more moments without stressing over what needs to be done next.

Kim felt ambitious the next day & rearranged the kitchen, as we may list the condo in the spring.  Things moved between the pantry & 3 drawers.  I stayed out of the way, watched some TV and of course played guitar mostly.

With it being flu season & Covid numbers on the rise, I’m guessing this might be an odd Christmas unless everybody starts doing things like they did in March.  I see another lockdown on the horizon…I hope.  Covid is getting out of hand.  I say mandatory masks, 2 months of quarantine, & substantial fines if a person is found in public with no mask, $500.  There’s a reason I’m not a part of the government.  Unless we see a serious decline in Covid cases, 2020 will have a HUGE impact on the holiday season in December, at least that’s what I think?

Sunday I watched an episode of “Unsolved Mysteries” & that night I watched part of “American Murder” on Netflix.  Real life crime stories, I’m in!

Finished “American Murder” and went to bed after getting bad chills up my spine from the documentary.  Usually real life crime stories don’t bother me?  Maybe it was the use of so much previously recorded social media video & texts that got to me?  CREEPY!

$5000 guitar effect pedal!  WOW!  I don’t get how a pedal could be so much, but I’m glad I saw the video.  Any guitar pedal over $300 is not something I’d even think about going for, I also like having fewer pedals to deal with.  I have 3 and one of them is a tuning pedal.  The amplifier I’m hoping to buy has 15 programmable effects on it & 60 more if you want to go to the tone studio website to get more.  I can’t see myself hooking up a guitar amplifier to the internet?

https://www.long-mcquade.com/154076/Guitars/Guitar-Amps/Boss/Katana-50-MkII-Combo-Amplifier.htm

https://www.long-mcquade.com/12567/Guitars/Guitar_Effects/Boss/FS-6_-_Dual_Footswitch.htm

The amplifier is $4700 less than the pedal but will do 60X more things.  WOW!

We didn’t get around to making a guitar video this weekend.  Kim’s been VERY busy with work, Thanksgiving, & reorganizing the kitchen.  She has a cell phone & I don’t.  Any videos or photos you see are captured with her cell phone.  I don’t even know how those things work since I avoid them.  I’ll hear Kim’s phone go “Bing” in the distance and it drives me nuts!

“The Struts” have an album out on Friday called “Strange Days”, “Royal Blood” released a stand-alone single near the end of September, & “Nothing but Thieves” will be releasing their album “Moral Panic” on the 23rd.

I’m anxiously awaiting “Nothing but Thieves”.  I never listen to singles, if “Royal Blood” saved the song for a 3rd album I’d likely get it.  I like “The Struts” but I hope the rest of the album is better than this latest single?

Exercise total for 5 days.

500 Curls w/ 20 pound dumb bells

300 Shoulder raises/Chest presses w/ 10 pound dumb bells

900 Crunches

900 Leg lifts

300 Squats

450 Back flexes

1:05 hour of yoga over 2 days

I hate doing my exercise before I do them.  Once they’re done, I have a totally different attitude.  Usually around noon I shower and end up having the rest of the day to play guitar while recovering from my exercise earlier.  For me it balances out.  This morning wasn’t bad, get up & get them done!

I watched 1:20 of the “Presidential” debate Tuesday night.  I thought it was beyond sad to see political “Leaders” behaving like undisciplined children.  Biden called Trump a clown…that’s the level of the bar Trump has set for a Presidential nominee.  Trump didn’t call Biden a name during any portion of the debate that I saw.  Trump has often, if not always, called Biden “Sleepy Joe”.  Great….playground insults from politicians seeking election.  It comes down to 2 old white men acting like kids.  I’m not a parent or mature for that matter but I know that name calling is wrong and it won’t help either candidate in the long run.  I also know that I’m a Canadian living in Canada and I don’t get to vote.  I’m geographically closer to the “Divided States of America” than Russia, somehow Trump has encouraged Russia & the Ukraine into rigging the election for him to win while Trump slapped tarriffs on Canadian aluminum.  Yeah, ‘cause Canada’s a big threat to America & it’s democracy!  Sadest moment of the debate for me was when Trump couldn’t “condemn the proud boys” after a VERY simple question to do so.

I turned on my computron the next day after the debate and just went “NO”!  It was just a sad display of the current disregard EVERYTHING culture that is unfortunately all around us.  What did I learn from the debate?  Nothing!  Trump is still Trump, he bullied/interrupted as much as possible & Biden stooped to his level.  Trump did EXTREMELY bad & Biden did just slightly better.  Overall it was just sad.

If Biden wins there will be a civil war in the USA.  If Trump wins America will say goodbye to democracy & some American citizens will likely move to other countries to avoid Donald Trump & (a probable) WWIII on American soil.

You can make a case that either of the 2 won the debate, spin it the way you want.  I pay more in Canada for things, other than health care, but I don’t have to choose between Trump & Biden.

To expand on an issue from Tuesday’s post. I saw a video of an obviously Repubican supporter, which is OK with me, whatever political party you align with is fine.  I may not agree with that choice but I agree that you should have a choice.  Anyways, the person was going on about how Ellen Degeneres’ opening monologue/apology for the new season was terrible & fake as she addressed the off season investigations into the accusations of sezual assault on set over the years.  At least she apologized & addressed them respectfully.  What has Donald Trump done when faced with any accussations?  Lied, disregarded, pointed a finger, & denied any wrong doing on his part after how many accusations?  Tell me how Ellen’s apology is worse than the President’s dismissal?

Like either of these responses or not.  They’re in the past & can not be changed.  Seems like the cool thing to do now is jump to conclusions about anyone regarding their past.  So if that’s how people are judged, what’s the point in changing?  I’m different than I was a month ago but I guess that doesn’t matter?  When I meet a person for the first time, or any time for that matter, & ask “Have you ever acted in an innapropriate way in the past?”  The answer will probably be yes.  Nobody’s perfect 24/7?

I’ve decided to go with this cut.  The traditional PRS cut, well an exact replica of this guitar below.

I still plan on getting this amplifier or something similar in this price range because of the fact that I can get this sound without blasting the volume!  Yeah I said fact, now nobody cares about facts?  I wonder if anybody will accept the fact that  2+2=4?

Why do I want this guitar stuff now?  I don’t see a pay increase coming my way EVER but I know there is a VERY strong possibility of inflation in the market!  Might as well get it now & use it instead of waiting 20 years when we’ll have likely the same amount money and everything will cost more.

People, Kim included, keep telling me I’ll want another guitar or some piece of guitar gear.  If I want another big purchase there are numerous things that MUST happen before that.  First & always first, our health.  Kim’s, Brewter’s, & mine.  The guitar I’m saving for.  A house or renovating/remodeling this place if there is no house to be found or if the condo doesn’t sell.  The amplifier or something VERY similar.  I don’t want to go full on digital but I like the options that come with this hybrid of digital & analogue.  Once EVERYTHING is covered & if something else doesn’t pop up.  I’ll decide if I want something & it won’t be an expensive brand name unless it’s a $120 guitar pedal.  It could be a guitar, if it is it’ll be an import (cheaper) guitar under $500.  I have an idea of where I’d look but not a clue as far as what I’d want.  As far as an amplifier & effect pedals go.  I’ll always have 1 amplifier & I like to keep my effect pedals at a minimum.  Right now I have a tuner, phaser, & a delay pedal.  Stuff an amplifier & guitar can’t do.  I’d like to have bought the amplifier & footswitch when I started to play again a year ago, but there are no certainties in life.

Once I’ve saved enough for the guitar, I should have enough in the bank by the end of May, I’ll hold off on saving for the amplifier & footswitch until early 2022.  The PRS S2 line is definetely the top price I’d pay for a guitar.  It’s a substantial amount below $3000.  An S2 is pretty, feels great, & is remarkably more resonant & louder than most, if not all of the other guitars I own.  Once I get the other S2 PRS, I’m done with high end/boutique guitars.  A Core PRS or a Gibson, are both HIGHLY overpriced for what you get in return, in my opinion.  Even a lowest end PRS SE is $1000 + tax in Canada & out of my price range after the S2.  I’ve also heard a mixed bag of results from Harley Benton guitars.  Very affordable guitars but quality can be great or terrible on any type of Harley Benton model.

During that time we’ll be house hunting (I hope we can sell this condo and find a house without losing $10,000) & if we can’t sell the place we’ll be remodelling our suite.  I really don’t like that we own a suite, we pay the mortgage but so many other people in this building get to make up whatever rules they want.  We’re also cramped for space now.

It’s nuisance now!  I binged & purged stuff last year, we’re doing it again right now & there’s no extra space here even with our storage unit (9’ X 3’) 95% full including a 3 level shelf on wheels full of stuff.

Oh yeah, & we don’t have a spare bedroom either.  Nice area, nice place but NOBODY wants to have to put in ANY work to make it their own, apparently paint & furniture was a no go for viewers last time!

I know we’re going to have to do some renovations to a new place but good grief if anyone has to make changes here!

I assume you weren’t watching but the Toronto Blue Jays season & short lived playoff series is done as of Wednesday afternoon.

I half woke up this morning singing, & I use the term singing litely, Layla by Eric Clapton.  The tempo of his unplugged version but the electric guitar version.  At least I pick a variety of songs to sing in my sleep.  It wasn’t Kokomo by the Beach Boys like it was 5 or 6 years ago?

To be clear about this, I don’t have a home studio.  I have no camera, cell phone, or audio recording device.  If I come up with a good sounding guitar line, I play it many times to remember it.  “The Beatles” only recorded stuff if they could remember it the next day, so I kind of operate the same way…I just don’t sound like The Beatles.  Any photos or videos on here or Facebook are courtesy of Kim & her cell phone.

I was missing a sleeping pill last night.  I take 2 different pills, one to make me fall asleep faster than my typical 3 or 4 hours of tossing & turning in bed.  The other keeps me asleep.  We missed getting a refill yesterday on the pill that keeps me asleep.  I woke up close to 3:00 am & finally decided to give up on trying to fall asleep at 5:00 am & got up to do my exercises.

My guitar came in Tuesday afternoon.  First impressions, DAMN it’s pretty!  I’ve honestly never played a guitar right out of the box that needs no adjustment.  I tuned it and it was ready to go.  Even just the tuning buttons were INCREDIBLY smooth.  I had HIGH expectations for it, & the S2 PRS greatly exceeded them!

Luckily I missed recording the baseball game Tuesday evening.  I caught the last 2 innings since I was busy playing my new guitar.  After my exercises are done & I’ve showered, I play it all of the time.

I was just about to play guitar after my shower on Tuesday & figured I should check my email.  I had an email confirming my guitar was in & ready for me to pick up.  My brother picked me up & we went to the store.  I tuned it & I’ve been playing it as much as possible since.  Playing it (unplugged) even while watching Blue Jays baseball in the evening.  I hate having to stop playing it!  I wish you could see it in person, the photo just doesn’t compare.

I’ve played 3 guitars in my life that made me think “Why aren’t all guitars made this way?”  My friend’s hollow body Gretsch guitar in the summer, my Epiphone 7 string that Kim got me for my 40th birthday at the end of January, & my new PRS S2.  The hype is real!!!!!

…and now I’d like to introduce you to “Sunny”!  PRS S2 Semi-hollow Custom.

Having this PRS S2 Custom 22 only solidifies my desire for the S2 McCarty 594.  Last guitar purchase, followed by that amplifier & footswitch.

https://www.long-mcquade.com/154076/Guitars/Guitar-Amps/Boss/Katana-50-MkII-Combo-Amplifier.htm

https://www.long-mcquade.com/12567/Guitars/Guitar_Effects/Boss/FS-6_-_Dual_Footswitch.htm

If you care to watch.  These are the different bridges they use on guitars at PRS, as shown by Paul Reed Smith.  Sunny has a tremolo bridge, and the one I plan to order has a 2 piece stop tail bridge.

If we find a house next year, the amplifier & footswitch are put on hold.  Well come June 1st of 2021 EVERYTHING stops for the hope of finding a house!  The amplifier & footswitch will have to wait.

If I ever got my hands on a Core Tremonti PRS with a HUGE (90% off) discount, that would be hard to pass up.  This S2 PRS is beautiful.  I’m over the moon with everything on this guitar!  Here’s that SUPER nice Mark Tremonti Core PRS, not in the typical black.

A Core PRS goes for $3,800 US, which is $6,574 + tax in Canada.  I used to say $5000 was my limit for a guitar, not anymore.  It’s far less than that or even the USA price for Core model, I just paid my limit for a guitar.  The final order is less expensive than what I have, it’s still very close to my limit.

“Sunny” is a lower priced S2 PRS guitar.  The quality is unmatched to any guitar I’ve ever played.  The downside & the upside of it is that we paid a lot for it & it REALLY impresses me.  So it’s VERY nice but it does have a large price tag.  One more S2 and I’m literally spent!

I do watch some TV other than baseball.  The Ellen Degeneres Show, A Late Show with Stephen Colbert, & about 3 other scripted shows that aren’t on TV right now.  Prodigal Son, The Resident, & Mom.  No matter what show I’m watching, there’s a guitar in my hands!

GO DR. FAUCI GO!

Why is Donald Trump EVERYWHERE?  If Biden wins the election, things could get messy when he moves into the White House.

This week I’ve been playing stuff I know the basic chord progression of while making it more distinct playing lead stuff instead on the new guitar “Sunny”.

I’ve been listening to a 20th anniversary reissue of the first self-titled Into Eternity album that I got on CD.  “Into Eternity” describe themselves as extreme progressive metal.  I think of them as death metal meets the harmonies of “Queen”, that’s HIGH-PRAISE in my books.  Good luck finding a CD other than through the Regina based band that until recently only had the files for the album.  Into Eternity are the Regina heroes that are still underground despite having toured or played with big name acts such as “Motorhead”, “Megadeth”, “Lamb of God”, “Opeth” & I believe “Dream Theater”.  I thik it was last year or 2018 they released their 6th studio album.  The last 5 albums should be available everywhere.  I bought 3 of them at HMV when it was open & managed to get the 6th album on amazon where you can find all of their albums now!

Welcome back to the program!  You’re here so if you like what you see, might as well subscribe?  Either on Facebook or with your email in the bottom right corner, it’s really that easy & it’s free!  I know you want to tell your friends, go ahead!

I played guitar for almost exactly 7 years before I had cancer.  I didn’t go right back to the songs I knew before or most of the songs I played/sang live.  I can’t sing like I used to be able to.  I can’t sing at all really.  Before when I was playing & singing I played rhythm/chords.  Now after cancer I chose mostly songs with a dominant lead guitar part.  That’s what I’m learning now.  I’m learning more lead guitar stuff that I’ve never played before.

I chose either songs I’ve never bothered to try & a few songs that I learned in my 6th & 7th year of playing.  I wanted to challenge myself instead of playing the same old 4 chords & the main riff to the song.  I figured what I play should be distinct to a particular song.  Gets me out of my comfort zone.

“YES” this is the amplifier for me!  This is a gain setting at 0.5 Watts.  Everything I’m looking for & more!

I don’t think I’m that excited about an amplifier, but it’s all I hoped it would be, with all of my research.  I’ll still have to wait until September to get it.  Gotta buy/order my last guitar by early February since I know it will take 3-15 months to get here.  Of course if we find a house the amplifier will have to wait.

If everything goes as planned, this will be ordered in February & hopefully we find a house shortly after?!

Same company in Stevensville, Maryland, USA as the guitar that should be here soon.

I think PRS just hit that peak where they’re now in the top 3 as far as guitar brands go.  I think between the USA factory & the one I Indonesia, they have 300 employees?  There’s no assembly line either.

I think the biggest wild card for us right now is Brewster’s health.  He seems to be fine right now.  He’ll cough like a smoker 2 or 3 times a day & he sleeps a LOT, but he still seems pretty happy & runs the show here.  He can’t hear me when I’m within inches behind him trying to get him to move so I don’t roll my wheels over him.  He can hear the microwave from inside our bedroom & around the corner though!  “Hark, my human is eating, I’ll have to investigate!”  I can’t eat anything without him sitting right beside me.

Whenever we see the vet for a checkup I always ask if he’s in pain, I don’t want to have the little guy suffer at all.  He’ll be 15 on January 31st, the day after my birthday.

As long as Brewster is OK, a house is at the top of our list.  Other than the seemingly impossibility of selling a condo in Regina, our problem is finding anything remotely wheelchair accessible within our price range.  I looked again at the website for houses in our price range & nada, zippo, zero, nothing.  Of course now that were being picky there’s nothing out there?

As far as my cancer goes, I’m good.  Got some refills on the weekend, I was out of a sleeping pill so I needed more of those.  I see my psychiatrist in October for a regular visit.  I also have another MRI in November, only about 30 minutes long.  There is a cyst in my back, it’s been there from the beginning.  New doctor taking over my case, so she just wanted to look at it closer.  Nothing to worry about though.

When I saw her last time, she asked how my fine motor skills were, such as writing & eating.  I told her all of that was OK and that I play guitar.  She was glad to hear my hands were in good shape & that the guitar playing was a good way to exercise those small muscles.  Makes me wonder if I can claim my guitar spending on my taxes as physiotherapy equipment?  HAHAHAHAHA!  No new guitar so far.  They said by the end of September at the earliest.  I’m getting anxious!

If I ever had $5500ish burning a hole in my pocket, this finish on a Core Tremonti PRS is pretty!  I’d get a Core McCarty 594 instead of the S2 I plan to order in February.  Nice to dream.

Kim had a headache & her stomach was sore on Sunday.  I didn’t get to see the Jays game until about 10:00 pm.  I ended up fast forwarding & rewinding bits of it just to see the highlights.  I slept in until 9:00 am on Monday and got my exercises done ASAP.  Regular season baseball ends on Sunday.

I did it 4 times this week.  I call it click bait.  I opened 4 Donald Trump videos on www.youtube.com.  I didn’t bother to watch them all the way through.  He honestly holds zero shock value for me & thank goodness he’s not Canadian!

October 16th, a new album is out that day from The Struts.  Here’s one of the 2 singles released so far.

This Foo Fighters song I used to play in private & it’s coming along nicely.  Verse portion is not bad, haven’t added the chorus part yet.

These 2 are just a little sloppy still.

Ended up playing a TON of Big Wreck over the weekend.

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

Exercise total for 4 days.

500 Curls w/ 20 pound dumb bells

300 Shoulder raises/Chest presses w/ 10 pound dumb bells

600 Crunches

600 Leg lifts

200 Squats

280 Back flexes

1:05 hour of yoga over 2 days

Short week made for an easier week of exercise!  I’m just glad the week is over for me.  I’d do more exercises if I had the energy.  We were going walking for a bit.  I should probably keep that up & do some in our parkade with my walker on the weekends.  My motivation for everything is “Somebody’s doing better than me”

I’ve decided that since I’m Canadian, there’s little need to watch American news.  Whatever Donald Trump says or does has zero shock value for me and even if I try to avoid it, it’s all over the Canadian National news channel & my local news.  Even when I watch www.youtube.com I avoid it.  He wants attention & ratings, well I don’t care to see or listen to him & he’s not a Canadian politician.

There are a few people that think I’ll want another guitar after I order my last one in February hopefully.  2 reasons I won’t though.  6 electric guitars & 1 acoustic is enough for a person in my situation, it’s a hobby.  Second reason, guitars cost money, we don’t have any to spend on new guitars.  I guess this would be a 3rd reason.  Quality over quantity.  Maybe I won’t own an arsenal of guitars, but they’ll be well made instruments!  I did my research & I know what to expect.  If everything goes right I’ll order my last guitar in February & buy the amplifier at that time while I save a little more for the guitar that will come a year later or I’ll see what the wait time is then.

Even my current guitars were gifts based on my knowledge at the time, other than my Fender Thinline Telecaster which was a gift out of the blue.  I only purchased my acoustic guitar.  Wasn’t much research on that guitar?  I walked into a music store & asked the people I knew there what acoustic I could get for $500 when I was 21.  They showed me a few, I played them & left with a guitar about 45 minutes later.

Let’s pretend that moneys not factoring into this scenario.  I’d get 7 different signature guitars.  Dave Grohl 335 Gibson (Foo Fighters).  Mark Tremonti & “Paul’s Guitar” (Alter Bridge & PRS).  Sell my Takamine acoustic for either a nice Taylor or Martin acoustic.  All of them are WAY too much to spend on 1 guitar!  Nice to dream, then there’s reality.

None of them will ever “…be mine”

In reality, a hard maybe on a more affordable Squier, Washburn, or knock off Les Paul still at least a decade or more down the road.  I’d likely have to sell an electric guitar & that’s not happening!  I’m REALLY excited about what I’m getting & what I have!  I can’t wait for my ordered guitar to get here!  Nothing other than what I’m getting has been researched other than the 2 PRS Core guitars, that are just WAY to expensive at $5300 or more Canadian.

I see people on www.youtube.com with 20-90 guitars, 40 amplifiers, & 100s of effect pedals, who typically have a profession of either teaching, repairing, making, or selling guitars for a living.  If money wasn’t a factor, I’d stop at 1 amplifier, 8ish pedals & 12 guitars because that’s a LOT of guitars to maintain or even just change strings on.  Money is a factor and I’m VERY happy with what I’m getting & I’m done spending money on guitars.  I’m done guitar shopping/researching for a LONG time.

We both REALLY hope to find a house next year more than anything!  Until we’re in our 60s or 70s, we’ll be looking for a house.  If there’s nothing out there by then, we might as well stay in a condo.

EVERYBODY is broke & at home right now.  Welcome to the rest of my life.  Your situation is temporary, mine’s not.  Don’t feel sorry for me, I’m adapting or have adapted.

Other than the new John Petrucci solo album, I’ve been listening to In Flames Clayman album since it’s the 20th anniversary of the album.  The last Big Wreck album is getting it’s fair share of listening as well.

I made the mistake of watching American & Canadian news this weekend.  I’m better off just going to website above for Covid info.  Both types of news told me a bit about Covid, whatever Trump did, & on the Canadian news a little bit of Canadian politics.

I’m a little disappointed in the lack of humanity in some individuals.  When this global pandemic started everyone, for the most part, was doing what they were told.  Stay inside, practice public distancing, if you choose to have a gathering keep it under 10 people, & wear a mask in public.  In March we were doing well by following these 4 simple rules & the curve was flattening.

Then summer hit and a LOT of people just decided that it was non-sense and couldn’t handle living with 4 additional rules.  Summer is over, so use the fall & winter weather as an excuse for living like we all did in March.

With the fall coming & schools reopening this isn’t going to get any better since flu season comes along with the season change as well.  Maybe the people avoiding the rules haven’t experienced the downside of the pandemic personally?  Well, I hope they don’t have to find out the hard way, but not following those 4 simple rules increases the odds of finding out the hard way.

This has never been an “I’m going to stick it to the man & disobey the rules” situation.  There is no individual to blame for this or for anyone to “stick it to”.  It’s a potentially lethal virus.  That has a better chance of making you & others sick by not following 4 simple rules.

If you want to politicize it, call it a hoax, a conspiracy, or anything else you have the right to do so.  Just know that you’re really letting everybody else down & they’re likely disappointed in you & your lack of humanity.  Celebrities were saying things such as “This will bring the best out of people” & for the most part they were right, but there’s always a few people that “…let you down”

I’ve pretty much been in quarantine for almost 7 years here.  When it started for me in December of 2013 I was grumpy, angry, & depressed.  Somewhere along the way I just gave up on the idea of leaving this building & figured “This is it, this is my life.  I guess I had better figure out how to deal with it.”  I assume many people aren’t there yet.  The sooner everyone figures that out, in a temporary situation, the sooner everyone can return to a “new normal”.  If you’re not a part of the solution, you’re likely a part of the problem.

I REALLY hope we can find a buyer for our condo.  Apparently the board has decided that visitor dogs are not allowed anymore.  We moved here for 3 reasons.  A) It’s a nice desirable area with pretty much every store within a 5 minute drive.  B) It is/was pet friendly.  C)  It was being built when we bought it.  Our suite is made to be wheelchair accessible.

Why do we want to move?  We need more space.  Our storage locker in the underground parking is full.  Kim’s bike was stolen because there is nothing to lock it too & there’s no way it would fit in our storage unit or our suite.  So all of that & the fact that were at least 20 years younger than most people here, & now the condo board is trying to change the pet agenda.  If someone didn’t want to be around pets, why would they move to a pet friendly building?  Kim’s going to board meeting coming up to vote on the pet issue.

I was watching Blue Jays baseball over the weekend & while I was watching the games I always get my acoustic guitar to play while watching TV.  Out of nowhere I started to figure this out.  I don’t remember it all so I looked up the guitar tab.

I figured I used to play it so I might as well relearn it.  I also decided to continue learning this Trivium song instead of something completely new to me…

I didn’t give up on this song, but it will take more time to learn new techniques I’ve never tried or used before.  It’s also mostly a solo all the way through…

I become more certain about this amplifier purchase later next year as I research it…

…and this is version 1 which is no longer available.  I’m looking at version 2 with a few more bells & whistles for $330.  A solid state amplifier that sounds like a $1500 tube amplifier that has to be at a minimum ½ volume to sound good.  This will never be turned to 50 Watts in a condo.  Only in a house, I don’t need to cause any extra drama/gossip in this building.

https://www.long-mcquade.com/154076/Guitars/Guitar-Amps/Boss/Katana-50-MkII-Combo-Amplifier.htm

https://www.long-mcquade.com/12567/Guitars/Guitar_Effects/Boss/FS-6_-_Dual_Footswitch.htm

I’ve always liked the sound of a tube amplifier but I could never justify/afford the price tag & maintenance involved.

Enjoy your music it might dry up?  This is why I don’t like streaming music.  I’ve bought 2 CDs this year & plan to purchase 3-5 more, while buying some stuff on iTunes as well.  The bands I want to hear but don’t listen to often, I will stream!  Unfortunately for me, I am streaming more than I want to while saving money for other purchases.

900 Crunches

750 Leg lifts

300 Squats

420 Back flexes

1:20 hour of yoga over 2 days

I just needed a break.  I’m feeling good this week and even upped some of my numbers during my repetitions went up this week.  Just feeling much better physically & mentally.  Muscles are sore but its Friday and it’s a long weekend!  I’ll be good to go next week!  I guess that’s my 2nd full week off this year, I was due.

I can see all of those exercise numbers staying where they are for quite a while.  My left arm is noticeably weaker than my right arm.  I notice it all of the time other than when I’m playing guitar.

I forgot since there are no CFL games this year & I gave up my season tickets.  I used to either take a few cans of food or $20 extra to a game where they have bins out for donations to the food bank.  Kim donated $25 to the food bank earlier this week.  I’m sure we’ll go through our storage unit & donate more clothes this year.

I shouldn’t say we don’t donate.  Kim’s in charge of the money here.  She’ll donate $20 to the legion plus whatever we donate to wear a poppy from November 1st until November 11th.  I always want to give more but we don’t have much more.  I don’t donate since I don’t own a credit card, Kim does from our shared income.  If I was to donate I’d be like Oprah.  “YOU GET $100, YOU GET $100, YOU GET $100, YOU GET $100, etc.”  When I was in the hospital a team of 10 of us raised close to $100,000 4 years for the Canadian Cancer Society.  I’m relatively cheap on most things, if I like what the charity is doing & had a credit card, we’d be seriously in debt FOREVER!

 https://www.youtube.com/embed/pviYWzu0dzk?version=3&rel=1&fs=1&autohide=2&showsearch=0&showinfo=1&iv_load_policy=1&wmode=transparent

Don’t get the idea that we’re going into debt for my hobby.  The guitar coming to me, hopefully sooner than later, is payed for & I’m about half way saved for the 2nd one that I hope to order in February.  Those savings & donating to a few charities won’t sink us.  Other than food, bills, Kim’s clothing, Brewster’s pills & vet bills, music, & guitar maintenance stuff.  We don’t spend money.  Charities often get a donation & if we’re a little tight for cash every once in a while, I just don’t add money to my guitar savings.  Once I get/save enough for my guitar to be ordered & amplifier, I’m done with luxurious purchases for at minimum a decade.

https://www.long-mcquade.com/154076/Guitars/Guitar-Amps/Boss/Katana-50-MkII-Combo-Amplifier.htm

Maybe we’ll find a house next year in our price range?  If we do, the guitar & amplifier get pushed back.  After looking online earlier this week, I’m doubtful, I saw absolutely nothing on the market in our price range in Regina.  Not even something we wouldn’t look at.  I mean zilch, zero, nothing.  We both hope to find a wheelchair accessible house next year.  More than anything that’s easily at the top of our “wish list”.

For the record I’m not getting a Core line PRS, WAY TOO EXPENSIVE!  I have an S2 model on the way here & I’m saving for a different S2.  2nd least expensive type they make other than the SE line from their factory in Indonesia.  Price wise it goes SE, S2, Bolt on necks, Core, Private Stock, & Artists line.

https://www.prsguitars.com/

As of mid-week I started working on 2 other songs along with the other 2.  I was practicing the tremolo picking at the start of the song & Kim obviously didn’t like it.  The door was latched pretty quick.  “THAT’S WHAT YOU GET FOR BUYING ME A 7 STRING GUITAR!  THANK YOU!”

The intro is a little tricky, but it has gotten much better since I’ve been just playing it randomly.

They’re all pretty different.  I can see the Trivium song taking a while & probably the Pearl Jam song since I’ve decided to learn lead guitar.  I’ve never even thought to play lead parts until recently.  I was a singer in a band that learned to play guitar to fill out the sound.  I can say that the Our Lady Peace song is learned & get’s played a lot because it’s fun along with numerous other songs.

I guess “Barstool Prophets” is good music for me to cook to!  I boiled noodles, Kim ran out for an ingredient for the rest of it.

2 back to back Blue Jay games today starting at 2:00 pm & the fridge is full of healthy stuff, condiments, & a little beer.  I’ll have to get rid of a beer or 2 today to free up some space!

Exercise total for 5 days.

0 Curls w/ 20 pound dumb bells

0 Shoulder raises/Chest presses w/ 10 pound dumb bells

250 Crunches

250 Leg lifts

100 Squats

140 Back flexes

0 hour of yoga over 0 days

I forgot to take my night time pills Monday night.  I didn’t sleep at all until 4:30 am after I took my pills.  I didn’t exercise the rest of the week.  That exercise total is what I did on Monday.

That night of not sleeping threw me off of my routine.  My body & mind just yelled at me “NO, IT’S TIME TO JUST STOP FOR THIS WEEK & RELAX”.  Great, I don’t really know how to relax?  I should have seen this coming.  I knew I’d need to rest at some point & I was hoping the Labour Day weekend would do it for me but I guess my energy ran out before the long weekend.  I guess that’s also a perk for me?  I can shut it down when I need to, doesn’t mean that I like to.  Feels more like a waste of a week.

Personally, I’m just tired.  Even watching Blue Jay baseball (I watch as much of it as possible every year) feels like a chore since I really don’t watch TV.  I exercise 5 days a week, I play a TON of guitar & I watch a little TV.  You factor in eating, showering, random household stuff, & sleeping, that’s a typical 24 hours for me & sleeping is only about 6-7 hours of it.

I don’t know if I’m tired or ready to embrace getting older?  I just want to kick back grab a guitar & not think about anything for a while.  Time to do nothing at all.  I already feel like I’m so far behind everyone but I’m just tired of trying to catch up to everyone.  I’m not about to give up, I just need/needed a short break.  I may not make a lot of money but I still feel as though I need to earn that disability check.

As for my guitar being delayed, it really wasn’t a downer for me.  I chose to put a positive spin on it.  Sure I ordered it in January.  I also chose to go with a fancy PRS guitar, since I researched it & the company so much.  Knowing that part of the delay was due to them looking for a blemish free piece of wood for the top of the body on the guitar is exactly the reason I wanted a PRS.  Yep it’s not cheap & some people might think that’s a waste of money, but the fact that they’re looking for a nice piece of wood that will be ¼” thick when all is said & done, that tells me that they’re likely quite particular about everything else going into that guitar, which was in the research I did.

S2 Custom 22 Semi-Hollow Body Guitar w/Gig Bag - McCarty Sunburst

That guitar has been saved for financially & if everything goes according to plan I’ll be placing an order for a different PRS S2 guitar in February.  I know already that I don’t want anything else in the meantime or after I upgrade my amplifier.  I’m keeping it simple.  If it turns out that were in a pinch financially, that’s where any & all funds go to.  Less stuff for me means less stuff can go wrong or needs repair.  I should mention that Kim’s fine with me getting the amplifier now.  Now that I know PRS are backed up 10-12 months due to Covid and that there is a 90-180 day delay regardless.  I’ll put down the 10% to order it in February & hope to get the guitar in December or in early 2022.

Yeah that exact model & colour to be ordered in February hopefully.  Then save for this amplifier & footswitch.

https://www.long-mcquade.com/154076/Guitars/Guitar-Amps/Boss/Katana-50-MkII-Combo-Amplifier.htm

https://www.long-mcquade.com/12567/Guitars/Guitar_Effects/Boss/FS-6_-_Dual_Footswitch.htm

Once I’m done with those purchases, I’m done with big purchases for a LONG time!  I researched the crap out of that specific PRS guitar & the amplifier.  The guitar is more expensive & it’ll come first.

You can call me whatever you want.  I’m OK with my progress & it’ll continue.  I get to have some fun along the way & for me that’s being in familiar surroundings & playing guitar.  Other than purchasing music & guitar related maintenance stuff, I don’t spend money & I don’t make a lot of money.  I’ve chosen 7 or 8 bands that I’ll purchase CD recordings of, 5 or 6 bands I’ll buy on iTunes, stream a lot of other stuff, I’ve given up on going to live shows other than a handfull of groups that might be here or in the 2 neighboring provinces, we cutback on our cable & streaming services, we don’t go out for any meals & somehow we’ll still be in a tight spot financially in the future.  Oh well, so are a lot of other people.

I went all “Marie Kondo” on my stuff & realized I don’t really need all of this stuff now.  Family, friends, & guitars are a part of my daily life & happiness.

If I’m destined to be a hermit, so be it…I might as well enjoy it!  More than anything, I want to do the right thing by staying out of the way for other people, & not bother anyone.  Someone needs help, I’ll do what I can.  I don’t want much & I don’t think I have a lot to give, if you think I do, I’ll look for it.

I’m not financially rich by any means, so I’ll live within my limits, be fine with that, & carry on.  Will I ever walk again?  I have no idea, it seems as though any strength/muscle I gain won’t really affect my balance which is the issue, but being stronger won’t hurt.

I turn on the local Regina news or the Canadian National news because all I see everywhere else is based on what’s going on in America.  Wild fires, hurricanes, Republican National Convention, 184,471 deaths due to Covid-19 in the USA, murder hornets, what stupid thing the President did today, an innocent man shot in the back 7 times by a cop, a 17 year old with an assault rifle shooting into a group of people thinking he’s rightly joining Trump’s henchmen, etc.  Guess what’s on any Canadian news I try to watch?  The same thing.  What are they saying at the RNC?  “WHO WANTS 4 MORE YEARS!!!!”?  I live in Canada & I don’t even want 4 more seconds of what looks like a shit show from here.

Donald Trump didn’t start this.  He also hasn’t/isn’t doing anything to correct it.  He’s sent out an unidentified army to arrest innocent people doing legal peaceful protests while blindly looking away & I’m worried about what people think of me?  Donnie, look in the mirror and wonder what people think of you & what YOU haven’t done……YOUR JOB!

John Petrucci (Dream Theater) & Metallica’s S & M 2 came out today that I was waiting for & a buddy of mine recommended some Rancid (punk music) to me after I asked about this band.

Even by Wednesday this week I had some decent energy.  I’m pretty sure those new night time anti-depressants are doing the trick.  Pretty consistent week for getting up by 7:30-8:00 & getting things done.  Might also be that I don’t go to the washroom 4 times a night to pee?  I’m on a medication for my bladder as well.  Before it was a rush to the bathroom & very often.  I still drink 3-5 liters of water a day.  I go to the washroom a lot but not nearly as much & it’s not nearly as urgent.  The downside to my bladder pills is that if I don’t drink enough water, I get dry mouth in a bad way.

I accidentally dropped my new sleeping pill under the bed Wednesday night.  I was far too lazy to look for whatever pill I dropped & went to bed.  I found out the hard way it was my sleeping pill………….awake until shortly after 1:00 am, but out of bed by 7:50 am.

I really don’t like day time baseball games.  One on Wednesday starting at 11:00 am & 2 games on Thursday starting at 11:00 am.  That means I didn’t play my guitar on Thursday & only a small amount on Wednesday.  I just unplug or don’t play after 8:30 pm since were in an apartment style condo.  Just watching TV makes me anxious.  I feel like I should be doing something, I get fidgety after 30 minutes.

Kim called the police yesterday.  She was forwarded to a messaging service for the evidence department.  So no word yet on a retrieval of the bike?  She also doesn’t see the point in getting a new bike this year.  She says she won’t have much time to ride it since she’ll probably put it away come mid-September.

We had a nice visit with our friends from Edmonton Wednesday night.  Haven’t seen them in 2 years & a lot has happened since then!  Good to catch up.  No we didn’t visit here.  Too many seniors in our building, instead my parents were kind enough to let us use their back yard tented patio area to visit outside while distancing.  They picked up their supper, we got ours, had supper & a lengthy chat while Brewster got to be free in the backyard.  Brewster was quite tired.  He didn’t get out of bed until 2:30 pm yesterday when I woke him up as I checked on him.  He moved from our bed to his kennel when we got up in the morning.

I’ve been anxiously waiting for this day.  One of us should get an email later on today letting us know my new guitar is here!  If it gets here today, I’ll be watching baseball tonight while playing it unplugged!  This might call for some rum on the rocks?!?!  I really don’t like playing guitar with any alcohol in my system though.

Strap locks shouldn’t be a big deal on a PRS, apparently the strap buttons are quite large.  I should be getting the beer bottle sealers that we ordered in June this month from amazon.  Then I just need new strings for 3 guitrars here.  I’ve already done my acoustic & my 7 string seems fine for now.  So if I do the other 3 I should be good for quite a while!

From the looks of things the amplifier is looking more & more like it won’t happen,  just so we can pay into my Retirement Disability Savings Plan (RDSP).  I’ve got an amplifier so I’d rather buy the guitar & put money away for when I’m 60.  The amplifier would be really good, but if I have to pick one, it’s this guitar hands down!

I guess there are money issues when you have money (I wouldn’t know personally) & when you don’t?

I thought this would be a fairly straight forward easy song…………OH HOW I WAS WRONG!  Weird tuning, chords I’ve never seen before, layered guitar tracks, & mostly individual notes throughout.  Good song to learn different stuff from though!

I wen’t deeper into the guitar part since I don’t sing anymore.

Constantly playing stuff I’ve learned.

Just started learning this the other day

…& always playing stuff from the 2nd, 3rd, & 4th Foo Fighters albums.
