Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

Quiet Mother’s Day.  Over to my parents’ house for BBQ chicken & ribs, avocado salad & potato salad.  Followed by 2 tasty cakes.  Yes, I tried both cakes to make sure they were up to standard for everyone else……You’re welcome, I aim to please!

Lots of people there for supper.  Mom, dad, Kent, Leanne, my cousins Megan Gagnon, Danielle Gagnon, Grandma, Grandpa, aunt Leanne’s parents, Clint & Dorothy White, Mitch, Rachel was at a wedding shower, Kim & I.  I feel as though I’m missing someone?  Sorry, lots of people & 2 dogs, Mac & Goose, Brewster stayed with Sherry & James.

Yes, I have converted my dad into a “Big Wreck”, “Foo Fighters”, & “Royal Blood” fan & now a “Queens of the Stone Age” fan.  I saw “Royal Blood” open for “Foo Fighters” with my father in 2015.  I’ve never seen “Queens of the Stone Age” before this though.  A very quick trip to Calgary to see the show.  Drive on Wednesday, get there in time for supper.  Concert was on Thursday night.  Drove back to Regina on Friday & got here at about 6:00 pm.  A big thank you to my Aunt & Uncle Kent & Leanne Fraser for letting dad & I stay at their house!  Kent is my dad’s younger brother

When we saw Foo Fighters in 2015 my uncle said to me, “So you’ll only come to Calgary if Foo Fighters are in town?”  I should have said this time “Nope, we’ll come for Queens of the Stone Age too!”  In actuality Kim & I might go there for a bit of vacation time during the summer in the next few years.

This is just to show that a guy in a wheelchair can get out & still live a relatively ‘normal’ life with the help of family & friends!  My legs work a bit, so I’ll need help if I’m somewhere new.  By the 2nd day I figured out how to stand at the washroom counter on the main floor & the second floor to brush my teeth & wash my face.  Dad had to help me get to the toilet, not really a big deal?

The concert was FANTASTIC!  Royal Blood now has 2 ten song albums out & Queens of the Stone Age have 7 albums out.  The most recent album was produced by Mark Ronson who released 1 album with guest vocalist including “Uptown Funk” with “Bruno Mars”, I was curious at first just to hear what would come out of the 2 working together and the album was really good, live was even better.  Royal Blood opened…

Queens of the Stone Age were the headliner.  I’m not sure how long Royal Blood played for but they started right at 8:00 pm, which was nice, & Queens of the Stone Age finished right at 11:00 pm.  Short show, but well worth the trip….

I remember more songs they played but that’s quite a few already!  Nice needed break!

Yes, I consider myself a Metallica fan now, a friend of mine is a HUGE fan & lent me the CDs.  I have the studio albums & the live album with the symphony.  I had a few on CD as well.  I totally agree with the musicians having a strong dislike for Napster & now all of these streaming sites.  I personally hate them.  I use iTunes, if I had the physical space I’d start a vinyl collection!  Unless you’re buying a TON of merchandise, alcohol, clothing, or a fragrance released by your favourite artists, that’s the only way they’re able to continue doing what they’re do!  They’re not making money from album sales anymore!  Swedish metal groups Opeth & In Flames have their own brand of beer from Opeth & Gin from In Flames.

https://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/metallicas-kirk-hammett-were-still-right-about-suing-napster-w520290

I used Napster, I downloaded Torrent files for free also.  While I was sick, we’d go to a music store & I’d pick out CDs, 2 a month when I was able to go home for a few hours at night.  I’d ask Kim to purchase the 2 CDs.  “Do you have this already?” she’d ask.  I usually said “Yes, the Torrent file”.  I carried on this way until CDs dropped in price.  Then I started to use iTunes.  I figured, “I was working for a paycheck, why not musicians?”  You’re entitled to get your music however you like.  Maybe it’s different than what I choose to do?  That’s fine with me, I use iTunes & Kim uses Apple Music.  Whatever floats your boat, I use Apple Music to preview an album before I buy it on iTunes.

“Trivium” needs to come back to Saskatoon, as well as “In Flames”.  Not only to play a show there but my “Trivium” & “In Flames” shirts both have a hole in the right armpit.  Now designated as exercise shirts.

Trailer for the movie “Bohemian Rhapsody” AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!  I heard it was in the works & that Sacha Baron Cohen “Borat” was fired when they got into the production, finally it’s here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

http://loudwire.com/first-bohemian-rhapsody-trailer-released/

Mark Tremonti likes “The Cars”?  AWESOME!

I agree.  The Blue Jays are paying $20,000,000 a year for injured short stop, Troy Tulowitzki.  He was good for 2.5 months at the end of 2015 and currently hasn’t played since July of 2017.  His fielding is great, his hitting is more than questionable.  At least it’s not my money!  There’s about 6 rookie short stops waiting in the minor leagues, Tulowitzki has created a road block for.  The Blue Jays got him in the last week of July 2015.  He was good right up to mid-October, & hasn’t been the same since.

I fell asleep to “Foo Fighters” the album “Wasting Light”

I exercised to Kim watching TV.

This is late.  I just didn’t want to get out of bed.  I woke up shortly after 8:00 am & finally got my butt moving at 10:00 am had a quick bite to eat & then exercised.  I thought things would get easier as I did them more?  I sweated profusely today though, doing the same exercises as yesterday.

I’m pretty sure these will be posted later on in the morning since I’ve added more exercises.

I’m not the hero or victim in this cancer nonsense.  My family, Kim’s family, & our friends are the heroes.  I would never be able to get this far on my own.  If Kim wasn’t working, we’d really be hooped.  She works, I exercise.  There’s no income for exercising as much as possible.  Our immediate families are very important to both of us.  James, Sherry, Mitch, Rachel, & my parents are all in Regina.  If we need help of any kind that they can help with, none of them think twice about helping us out.  Our friends in Regina are the same.  If we need help, they’re ready & on call.  No offense to anyone, Mitch & Kim are my phone a friend peeps.

When I was acting like a complete idiot, Mitch put me in my place.  Kim wasn’t very happy at that time either.  I didn’t see it because I wasn’t thinking about anyone else or how my behavior was affecting others.

If things had turned out differently & I had died, many other people would have died on the inside.  I didn’t die though & thank goodness I didn’t!  Not everyone gets a second chance at life other than cats that get 9 lives.  No I’m trying to steer the boat, with many others, in the right direction.  I’m sure we’ll run into some nasty waves along the way but with help awaiting the call, we’ll be OK.

Kim has this entire week off.  We watched 2 more movies on Monday.  Spider – Man Homecoming & Thor: The Dark World.  I really didn’t like the first Thor movie but this second one was REALLY good.  I saw Spider – Man Homecoming in the theater & I knew it was a movie I’d watch again.  Right now I’m holding out to see Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi & we may go this weekend to Pitch Perfect 3?

I’m sure A Perfect Circle will be released this year.  It could be a long wait before we hear a new Tool album.  I’ll believe it when I have it.  Danny Carey said in 2016 that there would be a new Tool album in 2017.  Their last release was in 2006 titled “10,000 Days”.  If that’s when the release is we have roughly 16.397 years to wait, if I did the math properly?  A Perfect Circle has 2 singles out already, still no release date though.

U2 – Songs of Experience.

I was a HUGE U2 fan in High School.  I have 11 albums on CD right from the 1st album 1980’s “Boy” to 2005’s “How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb”.  After that album I just assumed they had retired, until “Songs of Innocence” appeared in my iTunes.  That album was light years away from what I would consider a U2 album.  I got into them on “The Joshua Tree” released in 1987.  I (my mom) didn’t purchase it for me until 1989 or 1990(?) when I was with her at Costco & saw it there.  My mother isn’t a U2 fan, but she bought that CD for me.  I played that CD over & over & over etc. in my bedroom on my boom box at a LOUD volume.  I think my mother deeply regretted that Costco purchase.

After that album I casually bought the previous albums & kept a steady pace with future U2 releases.

The new album “Songs of Experience” I seem to enjoy it more with each listen.  I find it to be a good mix of old & new U2.  Here’s someone else’ take on it. I would never suggest a U2 album to anyone that has never been a fan of them.  If you’ve enjoyed previous albums, DEFINITELY check this album out!  Thanks to Jonny Amore & Timothy Wong for drawing my attention to this album!

We had 4 Christmas’ this year.  First up was Christmas with Kim’s family.  Opened gifts here on Christmas Eve, then spent the 25th at Sherry & James’ place.  Played games, had our Christmas meal & watched a movie.  Kim’s family went home on Boxing Day.

In the afternoon of Boxing Day, Corey, Jolene, & Hannah came over in the mid-afternoon to have our Christmas we have with them as we do normally.  No big meal though!  Thank goodness.

The only problem for me was trying to figure out how to get into Sherry & James’ house.  It’s a nice place but not wheelchair friendly.  I made it in without falling!  I don’t think I’ve ever fallen there.  James’ brother Jeffrey was with us for 1/2 Christmas Day, & here on Christmas Eve as well.  He’s a really nice guy to chat with.

On the 27th we had Christmas with my family.  We all did an escape room.  2 teams of 5 people.  My uncle, his girlfriend, & 2 cousins were with us for Christmas.  We had pizza for supper, then opened gifts, & finished the evening with a game of Pictionary & Mad Gab.

After we had just finished opening gifts, my parents got a call from a paramedic in Calgary.  My grandparents were in Airdrie for Christmas staying with my aunt, uncle & 2 cousins.  They had dropped my grandparents of at the airport to fly home.  They hadn’t boarded the plane & my grandmother had “a small heart attack” they said.

They think it was cardio myopathy.  I guess it really damaged her heart & her brain wasn’t working quite right.  Mom & Dad were on the phone a lot on Friday (29th) keeping other family members up to date.

On the 28th I did absolutely nothing, I was REALLY tired.  Kim went over to visit Jolene & Hannah.  Their dog Dug needed to have a play date with Brewster.  Kim thought Corey was working, so I stayed home & watched “The X-Files” on Netflix.  I should have had a nap instead.  I was too young to watch this when it was on TV, but I can’t wait for the new season.

Friday the 29th was Christmas with my mother’s side of the family at my cousin’s house in Rouleau (pronounced Rolo).  Aunts, uncles, cousins & all of my cousin’s young kids.  More of a family get together.  No gifts or anything just appetizers & a turkey dinner.  Unfortunately Mitch & Dad were both ill & stayed home.

It’s REALLY cold out today, December 30, 2017, we’re not leaving the house today however, I’m wearing my usual attire of shorts & a T-Shirt though.  I even asked Kim for some of the comforter in the middle of the night.  That’s very rare.  Make a note on your calendar!

Cold day, a good day to hunker down & watch movies with Kimmy.  She found a “Rocky” marathon.  She loves those movies.  Yes, we own them all, from the first “Rocky” all the way to “#Creed”.

I don’t like to speak about my Christmas gifts.  It’s very embarrassing to me.  I’m grateful for them, but also embarrassed by the amount of stuff I receive.  I prefer & enjoy giving gifts.  That’s one of the reason I don’t talk about what I’ve received.  Please don’t ask?

Well, it’s New Year’s Eve December 31, 2017 means I’m 9 years cancer free.  I’m still in a wheelchair, iPatch over my left eye, & still on 5 medications.  All of that being said, I’m fine.

We spent New Year’s with Corey, Jolene, Hannah, Gosha, Twyla, & Elouise (spelling may be off here).  Yes we were home & in bed before midnight.

Kim has the entire week off, but I’ll start my workouts on Tuesday.   I’m going to change it up a bit throughout the year so it doesn’t become the same daily routine.  You’ll still get a weekly total though!

Just spoke with my mother, mom & dad may be heading to the Alberta boarder to pick up my grandparents this weekend (6th & 7th).  Just the other day grandma thought the year was 1532, she was in a mall, & had been there for 2.5 years.  Sounds like she is doing better now.  When the paramedic called on the 27th we were all shocked that they said Jean Fraser was in the back of the ambulance?  Grandpa is the one with a bad heart.  I guess I’m lucky to still have two grandparents alive at my age.  I also got to know 3 of my great grandmothers.

Another tune from “A Perfect Circle”

If I knew in 2017 what I know now, Pink, U2, The Devin Townsend Project, & Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds would have appeared on my top albums of the year.

Pink – Beautiful Trauma

U2 – Songs of Experience

No, I didn’t care for their free album either, “Songs of Innocence”

The Devin Townsend Project – Transcendence

Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds – Who Built the Moon?

I’ll do a review of these albums over the next 4 posts.  If you’ve never enjoyed U2, you probably won’t like their new album.  As a U2 fan, I REALLY like it.

I hit my daily goals again this week!!!

Remember this was a 4 day week.  So here it is: 6000 crunches, 400 squats, 320 pushups, & 280 leg lifts

My goals for each day are: 1500 crunches, 100 squats, 80 pushups, & 70 leg lifts.

Normal weekly total should be, 7500 crunches, 500 squats, 400 pushups, & 350 leg lifts.

Before I do the rest of my exercise after the first 50 squats, I’ll be drinking my smoothie, coffee & water.  Just thinking about how much my exercise will suck.  When I finish them I think “Hey that wasn’t terrible at all!”  I figure if Kevin Hart can do 1000 sit ups a day and 500 pushups, there’s no reason I can’t do it too.  I think he said it last year on “The Ellen Degeneres Show”?

When my exercise totals are on, I feel like I’ve accomplished what I expected from myself.  It’s quite a bit like my job was running a printing press.  When I fished a shift, I’d hold a sheet, look at it & think “Hey!  I helped in the process of making this!”  That validated what I was doing.  I kind of don’t see what the results are from my exercises.  I do know that more & more T-Shirts fit though.  Not really my goal, I can’t imagine being satisfied until I’m able to walk on my own.  Until that happens, I’ll be “my own worst enemy” saying to myself “NOT GOOD ENOUGH!”

LANGUAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My parents & my in-laws had to adjust quite a bit as well.  We still haven’t been to Kim’s parents place since 2007, before I had cancer.  Her parents & younger brother come to Regina on Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, & sometimes in the summer.

My parents had to feed me when I came out of “….m, m, m, my coma”.  I was so weak I couldn’t lift a utensil to my face.  I started to cough one day & my father chimed in “Hey, you just hit me with food, & it went 8’ & covered the wall, your cap on your trach came off”.  If I’m having anything carbonated, best to stay out of the splash zone, or wear a rain poncho!

As much as I’d enjoy daily life being easy, the world shouldn’t & doesn’t stop for anyone!  I’m learning how to keep up with everyone.

I’ll get a cell phone one day.  The cheapest piece of junk, leave it off when I’m out, & turn it on only for emergencies.  To call someone.  I don’t enjoy being photographed unless I don’t know about it.  I will not have my email or Facebook attached to my phone & very few people will have the number.  I will also not engage in texting.  I just don’t like the idea of having an active cell phone with me constantly.  I’ll never understand the attraction of being attached to the world “24/7”?

I guess I’m a “Star Wars” nerd too.  I saw this & wondered what the timeline was.  I guess “Hans Solo” was born about the same time as “Luke & Leia Skywalker” were born?  I don’t know, I was confused?

I was watching the “Lethal Weapon” TV series the other night & I heard a song I haven’t heard in a long time!

I haven’t heard the entire song since my after grad party!  I still like a few of the songs on this album.

I’m sure any help would be appreciated in helping someone with cancer!

Foo Fighters weren’t going to put this song on the album.  Their manager came in after they finished recording this album & said “Hey, what about that song that says best of you 8 billion times?”

Review of the latest “Opeth” album “Sorceress”.  This is not a death metal album as they had intended.

I really like this album!

Pentatonix shared it……

One week from today “The Pretty Reckless” & “Jimmy Eat World”

New song from the upcoming album “Battles” by In Flames!

I should listen the album “Come Clarity” by In Flames

I’ll catch you on Sunday.  All I see is baseball playoffs in Cleveland & a Saskatchewan Roughriders game in Toronto this weekend!  If you need me, sorry, I’ll be on the couch.

ROYAL BLOOD, FOO FIGHTERS & CALGARY

A Million Miles Away Blog on facebook.

www.amillionmilesawayblog.com

Give the site a moment to load all of the links. It takes a bit for my computer & it crashes on Kim’s cell.

I don’t own a mobile device since I’m always with someone when I’m away from home. Anyone I’m out with has a cell or tablet/iPad, I don’t need one.

Two things you should know. I needed a break from my computer & on Wednesday morning we drove to Calgary for this fantastic concert.

Now my dad has seen Foo Fighters 3 times since 2008, & I’ve seen them 4 times since 2000. 2000 in Saskatoon at a 1 day outdoor festival, 2003 at a hall in Edmonton, 2011 & 2015 in Calgary. I’ll just say the concert was AWESOME! Royal Blood opened, played from 7-8, played a bit of a riff from Black Sabbath & most of their album. Foo Fighters played from 8:30-11:00, with no encore, a Rolling Stones song & “Under Pressure” by Queen & David Bowie, both covers were pretty much spot on. They also played an album track that a casual fan might not have recognized? Also 3 songs from the new album “Sonic Highways”

I can’t remember the Black Sabbath riff Royal Blood played?

Royal Blood was really good too though! Bass player/singer & a drummer! REALLY GOOD!

The 4 of us, Mom, Dad, Kim & I stayed with my aunt & uncle, Kent & Leanne. We also visited my aunt & uncle in Aidrie, Joan & Terrance with my cousins Ryan & Kyla. Quick trip, drove all day Wednesday & Sunday, concert was Thursday evening. I think I gained 20lbs with visiting 2 brewerys, eating bread, cheese & scones, along with my aunt Joan’s perogys. We did sneak in a visit with Rydell & Candice which was really good. Candice is pregnant & was due on the 11th. She’s still pregnant though, waiting anxiously to get that baby out. She is & always has been PHAT! No “F” though, I can’t say DOPE since she has never smoked marijuana.

Good but fast trip to Calgary! Big thanks to Kent & Leanne for letting us stay with them & keeping us well fed & drunk………………..uh………………….hydrated?

Fun trip, only problem was Kim & I would wake up & pretty much not see each other until supper time. She would go out with my aunt & mother, while I went out with my uncle & father. My dad is the oldest of 3 children, Uncle Kent is the middle child & my Aunt Joan in Airdrie is the youngest of 3.

I listened to my iPod all the way to Calgary & back. Kim wanted to listen to an audiobook, I would’ve fallen asleep likely.

I’m REALLY enjoying the new Finger Eleven album! It exceeded my expectations!

As well as the new Lamb of God album

I hate pre 1985 Rush, but this is pretty cool. An audience member sings “Tom Sawyer” on stage with Foo Fighters.

WEEKEND UPDATE

I’m going to leave this first paragraph until I have 100 subscribers

Really please help me out?

PLEASE share this link & pass it around to those that might enjoy. Tell them how to subscribe from a desktop or laptop computer! Let’s get some more people on board? http://www.amillionmilesawayblog.com Don’t feel as though you need to click on every link. I’ll do this so nobody else has to. I’m on face book & email only. I’ve found people on face book that I’ve lost track of over the years, so let’s use email to talk with each other. Up there are instructions on how to subscribe. I’m at 30 subscribers so all 30 of you please help me out?
Even though you subscribe to the blog I always recommend coming to the site to read it in case someone comments on a topic. Comments are always welcomed. If you’re using “Internet Explorer” or “Google Chrome” as a web browser the http://www.youtube.com links will be open to show you the title, artist & a still photo of the video. I have to switch between the 2 since the audio doesn’t work all of the time on one of them.

Hard rock fans, buy this “Red Dragon” album by Room 333, which is compared to “La Gargola” by Chevelle!
https://itunes.apple.com/ca/album/red-dragon/id917967693

These will get much shorter. Blue Jays spring training games start on Tuesday, I’ll be spending less time in here & more time on the couch, when the regular season starts April 13th , they play almost everyday they get 2 days off a month all through August & a bit of September.

If it’s a good song to you, who really cares if others don’t like it? You don’t like Foo Fighters or Big Wreck, that’s cool. There are many fans complaining about Foo Fighters new album & the In Flames album. That’s fine with me, I like them. There’s very little Metallica I enjoy, does that really matter to their fan base? I don’t think it would?

Best advice I’ve ever received, one from my physiotherapist Robin Dowel-Macpherson and one from my father & one from my mother Barb Fraser. A) “Will this matter to you in 20 years?” B) “Why waste your energy being angry?” C) “Let it go, it gets heavier every second you hold on to it” All of us should do that more often, me included!

There you have it Aerosmith inspired by Foo Fighters!!

You’ve heard of Led Zeppelin, Dire Straits, The Cars, Soundgarden, but not Big Wreck? They should at least be mentioned when speaking about Soundgarden. New Big Wreck video.

The Grammy Awards actually don’t mean much to me either, I see as more of a popularity contest.

I’ve never really understood the attraction to circle pits where you just run in a circle. I think it’s my age? I’ve been in a few mosh pits, where it’s just chaos & crowd surfing. The last one I was in was in ’99 beside the Saskatoon rink at a one day festival. I broke my nose while Big Wreck was on stage playing this tune…

Why? Why would some sneak in a gun to a concert? Hard rock/metal audience members get a thou-row pat down before the concert. So do the audience members at these shows get one as well?

AAHHHHHH KELLY CLARKSON & HAPPY MOTHERS DAY

Sunday, May 11th 2014

Yep, it’s MOTHERS DAY! Big HAPPY MOTHERS DAY to Barb Fraser and Shirley Olson!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=InNiFtwma60 or as 104.9 suggested

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=34ErUwV5Uxk Why? I don’t know? Even the title sounds creepy!

Yes, Kelly Clarkson. The 1st season “winner” of American Idol. That show is a love/hate thing for me. Great way to be in the public eye and share your craft with everyone. So, how did previous bands/groups become famous? Most off them learned their craft very well and toured their butt’s off. And as a footnote, they can sing far better than I can, now or before cancer. You go on some random singing show and instantly shoot to stardom while playing mostly arenas. So how did Bruno Mars become famous?

I’ll confess I had to skip a few music acts to get here since I haven’t listened to them enough to do a proper review. Keith Urban sounded really good though.

No I don’t like every song by Kelly Clarkson, just most of them! I didn’t buy thee Greatest Hits album from iTunes, just two of the newer songs. Anyways here’s a song that I like by her, one from each album.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dS1ZW0FdoIU Honestly, the only song I enjoy from her 1st album.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7-F4sxpmWo From “Breakaway” with the song “Since u Been Gone”. 2004

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVYesEpMr84 1 of the 2 decent songs on her 3rd release “My December” released in 2007.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BazaezLjzTg “All I Ever Wanted” released in 2009.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xn676-fLq7I From “Stronger” released in 2011.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWbMz_aBlMU From the “Greatest Hits” album released in 2012.

No, I haven’t bought the Christmas album……………….yet.

We had brunch at my parents house today. Kim and I, Mitch and Rachel and my Grandparents. Dad cooked everything and Kim took a fruit salad with her. Brewster was just happy to go for a car ride. We can’t say “car ride” unless he’s actually going. If he’s not going, we get to deal with the whineyest dog ever.
