1:05 hour of yoga over 2 days

I guess I should clear a few things up to begin.  I’m reluctant to put my playing on social media since I posted a polite comment on a site a few months ago.  Instantly I had 7-10 people making fun of my iPatch.  Well “the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate……and I’m just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake.  Shake it off”.

I thought that was a smart pop album.

In Canada we have an extra day off in each remaining month of the year.  September has Labour day, October has Canadian Thanksgiving, November 11th is Rememberance day & then Christmas holidays.  Kim & I  don’t have any extra days off.  Even with 5 days off last weekend we both had a day of “What should I do with myself?”

We’ll call that as house cleaning done for now!

Monday, Wednesday, & Friday are the days I do crunches, leg lifts, back flexes, & squats.  I’m starting to dislike those days.  Just thinking the entire time about how much I don’t want to be doing those exercises.  I do them anyways & get them out of my way.

I hadn’t had coffee or tea since May 19th.  Kim came home on Monday with a mocha-frapacino for me.  I drank it, with all of that sugar & flavouring it really loses it’s appeal for me.  I used to drink the darkest Columbian roast I could find.  I have a high resting pulse, so coffee isn’t really even desired.

Also as of May 19th I’ve only had 2 alcoholic beverages.  One to celebrate the return of Blue Jay baseball & one while watching a Q & A regarding guitars on www.youtube.com.

I decided shortly after Tuesday’s post that I’d make things a little harder for me & learn the lead intro to this Trivium song.  That might take some time.

If Led Zeppelin tries to sue me for playing one of their songs, you’ll help me out wont you?  You might have to.  I’m posting a video of me on guitar playing Led Zeppelin’s “Kashmir”, well an abreviated version of it.  Many mistakes but I’m camera shy, actually I hate any photo, audio, or video of me.  It’s on Facebook with all of the flaws recorded since people asked?  Played it 5 times before recording it error free, camera comes with the mistakes. If you wanna hear more, I’m home & happier at home than without a cell phone in my face.  Being on video while playing guitar was the most depressing/joy sucking experience I’ve been through since I was suicidal from 2009-2011.

I was going to post videos of me playing Alter Bridge, Megadeth, Nothing but Thieves, Pantera, a few Metallica songs, a few Alice in Chains songs, many Foo Fighters songs, a few more Led Zeppelin songs, Pearl Jam, I Mother Earth, The Beatles, Eric Clapton, etc.  I’ll take cancer again before I video myself playing guitar again.  Audio is fine, I just don’t listen to it much at all.

With everything being digital and everyone having a camera with them all of the time, that is DEFINITELY a reason I stay indoors.  Not many people call our land line outside of spam calls.  Did people suddenly forget they can talk to someone instead of texting?  I don’t see myself getting a cell phone until land lines are eliminated.

You’ve got the video, I get “Red Light Fever” – Taylor Hawkins, drummer for Foo Fighters from one of Taylor’s albums “Taylor Hawkins & The Coattail Riders”.  I got the video done & out of the way.  Nobody takes anyone by their word anymore, lots of people need video proof, BUMMER!

Here are the specs & a photo of what should arrive on August 21st.

S2 Custom 22 Semi-Hollow Body Guitar w/Gig Bag - McCarty Sunburst

You won’t see me playing it.  There will be a photo on here & a reaction video on the Facebook site.  This will be my only guitar with a tremolo system aka a whammy bar.

This is the guitar I’m saving for & hope to order in the spring.  Minimum of 90 days before it gets here.

S2 McCarty 594 Electric Guitar with Gigbag - Whale Blue

An amplifier upgrade/replacement & I will be all set for many years or Kim might hurt me……she knows karaté!

I can promise you there will be a photo of each of these guitars as I get them, with a reaction/opening of the gig bag video on the Facebook page.  Eventually I’ll post a photo of my guitars all together.

I’ve seen the minimum price for a PRS guitar all the way to a bolt-on neck price for a PRS.  Core & Private Stock go to the highest price point.  The least expensive SE PRS retail in Canada is $780 + GST (Government Sales Tax in Canada of 5% followed by whatever the Provinces Provicial Sales Tax is).  I’m looking at 2 S2 models just above that price point of between $1980-2400 retail, tax in Saskatchewan amounts to 11%.  A bolt-on neck PRS retails for $4,899-$5100.  I’m assuming a Core model would retail for $5500.  A Private Stock would likely be a minimum of $5500 & up.  With a Private Stock PRS you get to go to the factory in Maryland & pick out what type of wood you want for each part of the guitar (neck, body, top, binding),  the electronics they offer, the body style (solid, semi-hollow, hollow body, or acoustic), the colour & finish.  I used to say my limit on a guitar would be $5000, it’s not anymore the S2 line is by far my limit.

I play guitar a LOT.  Even with baseball on I’ll watch a game while practicing on my acoustic.  So for fun I tallied up the amount of time I spent practicing guitar Tuesday & Wednesday.  It’s quarantine time & I don’t watch much TV other than Blue Jay baseball & CFL football (I’m not sure when football starts).  The tally over 2 days comes to roughly 11:30 hours.  That’s pretty standard honestly.

My main electric guitar changes daily.  It’s more to do with what I’m playing followed by more practice on the acoustic if it’s not an acoustic song.  This is a little further down the list for me to relearn…

It’s INCREDIBLE guitar players like this that humble me.

This website wants me to show advertisements so I can get paid for this.  I’m not about to do that.  I don’t watch commercials, so I’m not going to make you watch them.  Also, I might not like the product advertised, another BIG reason I’ll keep this website commercial free.

I see a lot of reaction videos on www.youtube.com of people just going insane for the emotion & musicianship in this song.  I agree it’s FANTASTIC song, that was released in 2007.  I don’t understand why I’m seeing reaction videos from 2019?

Well just wait until 2031 when they react to this song that was released last year.

Well look at Big Wreck’s new live video!

I watched a Netflix mini-series on Friday.  Time off during a pandemic with nowhere to go, while Kim went out with a co-worker to take photos.  I hung out with Brewster, watched a 6 episode mini-series all while practicing stuff on my acoustic guitar.  Roughly 4:30 hours of Netflix.  I watched “Waco” all of it.  Once I started I couldn’t stop.

I was 13 years old when it happened, so I doubt I had much interest in what was on the news all of the time.

What I took away from it worries me about the VERY near future.  What happened in Waco was an unnecessary war.  According to the show, based on two books written by the FBI negotiator & a Waco survivor.  According to the series, the ATF went in firing weapons at the compound.  A cease fire happened for a few months when the FBI took over a few days after the stand-off started.

A deal was reached eventually between David Koresh & the FBI negotiator for a peaceful outcome.  The FBI waited, but not long enough & eventually threw tear gas in starting a fire where many lives were lost.  The series is a completely different story by people that were there involved, compared to what the media was reporting.

Donald Trump has not been able to create a war with another country.  He’s trying REALLY hard in hopes it will win the election for him.  Neither side in Waco admitted their mistakes & look what happened, a war, & from the series it shows that everyone involved has blood on their hands.

Donald Trump will not admit he’s wrong about ANYTHING!  “I’ll be right eventually” well time’s running out along with most people’s patience.

Trump’s using the #blacklivesmatter protests to start a civil war instead.  Donald Trump has unleashed his unmarked Federal Law enforcers on ALL protests.  I see no riots on the news as I did a month ago.  What is he trying to prove by having his soldiers throw people into unmarked vans to be arrested?  The only thing I see is more & more proof that he’s a bully drunk on power.

Unless he admits that he’s wrong I think there is a STRONG chance there will be a war before the election.  The USA will have the same outcome of what happened in Waco, Texas but on a much larger scale.

I’m not saying I’m right or wrong, that’s how I see it as an outsider.

The words of a Pastor……

……not part of the solution.  This is the problem.  This virus could be far less prominent by now, but too many people are thinking this way.

I’m Canadian.  I’m not a Democrat, Republican, Conservative, Liberal, NDP, Green Party, Bloc Quebecois, or People’s Party member/follower.  I vote based on facts not alternative facts.  I believe in God & science.  I believe that EVERYBODY should be treated equally.  I believe in #LGBTQ rights, that #blacklivesmatter, #metoo movement, climate change, universal health care, that diversity is a good thing, the world is BIGGER than America, & not everyone is racist.  I don’t want to hear what the rival politicians can’t do, I want to hear what a politician can do.  I don’t vote base on the party that person is representing.  I vote based on the political party & the politician leading that party.  I’m a human trying to evolve, learn, & be a better person.  No matter what your age is, keep evolving or get left behind.  I’ll help you, but you have to want to evolve.

Now onto the cancer portion.  I’m fine.  I’m in a wheelchair likely for the rest of my life.  I could be bitter about that for the rest of my life but I don’t have time to be bitter.  That would be a HUGE waste of my time & energy.  What bothers me is the ripple effect I’ve created for people in my life, especially Kim.  She has to deal with the fact that I had cancer and am physically disabled because of it EVERYDAY.

This will sound odd, cancer can do whatever it wants to me, but I hate that MY cancer affects the lives of others.  I got cancer, why should anyone else be punished for it?

It’s becoming more apparent to me that I’ll go a few days without much sleep & then crash for 2-3 hours one day in the afternoon.  Once I’m awake & doing stuff, I don’t stop for a rest, I just go from 7:something am until 10 pm or 11 pm, lay awake in bed until 1 or 2 am & repeat for 3 or 4 days until I nap.

Our “niece” was here for a sleepover Saturday night after going shopping & rollerblading with “auntie” Kim.  Hannah will be 7 years old in October.  Winner for most hilarious discussion I heard this weekend…

Kim: Did your parents fill you with sugar before you came over?

Hannah: No, I’m crazy all the time!

I’ve decided there will be no colour change on the guitar I’m saving for.  This is it, as is…

I’ve also decided that I won’t post my playing on social media.  A heckler in a live crowd is something I can manage.  One on social media REALLY singles an individual out.  It’s not like I demo random gear, so I don’t need any feedback, I play for myself.  When I get my guitar, hopefully on August 21st, I’ll get a photo and video unveiling on the Facebook page.  Yeah since ordering it on January 15th, it feels like a long time.  Yep I’m excited/giddy about its arrival.

S2 Custom 22 Semi-Hollow Body Guitar w/Gig Bag - McCarty Sunburst

REALLY good advice!  My guitars are always on a stand or on the wall hangers.  I make a point of practicing some stuff with a metronome.  I never want to oversell myself as a guitar player.  I ask many questions, and I’m always more than willing to answer anything I know about.  I obviously can’t stand up but a strap is on each guitar with a strap lock soon.  A strap for me is an insurance policy if I lose control of the guitar.  Once I’ve figured out the pattern for what I’m playing on the guitar, I repeat it multiple times with my eyes closed & rely on my ears.

Going from playing while seated to playing while standing was very hard for me.  Going from standing, having a hiatus for almost 12 years, & learning to play in a wheelchair was much more difficult, especially since my body naturally wants to move with the music.

I’ve ordered a bunch of beer bottle rubber sealers for guitar strap locks.  They should arrive this month from amazon.  No beer just the sealers for the large bottles that reseal.

The good thing about playing alone is that only I get to decide what to play instead of a band of 3-10 people, that’s also the downside of the situation, not having different influences around you.

I’ll work on these songs for the week while playing other stuff I’ve learned.

Practicing this most of Monday on the 7 string.  It’s the switching between chords into the individually picked notes in the verse that have me practicing so much.

This is just fast & all down picking.  Down picking isn’t a problem, I found an exercise to practice it with a metronome.  I’ve just never played that fast.  This one could take me sometime, just because of how fast it is.

I’ve played this Alter Bridge song before but I don’t remember it.  I’ve got it down as of Monday night, just more repetition needed.

After practicing the Alter Bridge & Trivium songs on Monday, they seem to be easier than I thought.

Welcome back to the program!  You’re here so if you like what you see, might as well subscribe?  Either on Facebook or with your email in the bottom right corner, it’s really that easy & it’s free!  I know you want to tell your friends, go ahead!

Stuff I’ve learned, never the solo though.

If you had asked me in 2001 if I was going to learn any Led Zeppelin, the answer would have been a quick “NO”.  I was singing lead vocals in a rock band before I owned a guitar.  I still have to get more comfortable with “Kashmir” & all of the little fills, strings & horn parts, but it’s there!

REMEMBER I HAVE THURSDAY & FRIDAY OFF THIS WEEK & I’LL POST ON TUESDAY!

450 Curls w/ 20 pound dumb bells

250 Shoulder raises/Chest presses w/ 10 pound dumb bells

250 Crunches

250 Leg lifts

100 Squats

140 Back flexes

55 minutes of yoga over 2 days

I did 2 days of weights & yoga this week just to change it up this week.  We have a long weekend every month until the end of the year.  I figure I’ll change my exercises every now & then for the year.  I did have 1 beer this past Friday to celebrate the return of baseball.  It had been 3 weeks without alcohol for me.  I’m pretty sure from now on I’ll just have local craft beer in the fridge & spiced rum in the liquor cabinet.  Kim drinks far less than I do.  She’ll have maybe 4 drinks in the summer?

I’m fine on guitar.  I create music that I like.  The point of learning a song is to learn what you like, learn how to play parts you like & move on I want to learn stuff I’ve never attempted in the past, like Metallica’s “Master of Puppets”.  I had to get my head around the arragement though.  I’ve learned and practiced about 1/3 of the song, got confused on what part comes next, so I go to the lesson on www.youtube.com & the tabulature for the song.  Most guitar players can’t read music so we read tabs.

https://tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/tab/metallica/master-of-puppets-tabs-8565

When I first learned guitar I learned songs from was about a dozen tab sites.  Now there’s EVERYTHING on this site for any song.  There was no www.youtube.com when I was initially starting out either.  Now I go to www.youtube.com to learn scales, odd chord shapes, tunings, etc.  Much easier to learn guitar now than it was in 2001.

Yesterday I figured I should just play the songs I’ve learned & become more comfortable with them.  About 3 hours later I had ran through 15 songs & cleaned up a few spots.  Foo Fighters, Led Zeppelin, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Nothging But Thieves, Pearl Jam, Pantera, Metallica, & stuff I’ve come up with.  I’ll do that for a few days then take on some more stuff.  Playing through about 20 songs & figured this out, something I haven’t played in 19 years, & I only played it a handful of times

Even the President has started wearing a mask on occasion, he’s about 5 months late but at least he’s wearing one.  Here’s the virus map of the world.

https://covid19.who.int/?gclid=CjwKCAjw9vn4BRBaEiwAh0muDJuFyn73fzkJrkQyngFyDO1dHoFN_OZ-q7017Ple4dcg6Oovu1mv4xoCOgEQAvD_BwE

I’m pretty sure the President’s Federal unlabeled law enforcement for the protests is causing more panic than the protesters are.  Yeah, run up to me & throw me in an unmarked van.  Might as well add tinted windows, a blind fold, & offer me candy like some sick child molester.

If everybody starts wearing a mask, practicing social distancing, & stays home or at least on their property, that map will look a lot better in a month.  Common sense, humanity, & respect for others.  How difficult is it to get dressed in the morning & go out?  While you’re getting dressed for the day add a mask to your wardrobe.  Go to work, run a couple of errands, wear a mask as much as possible, then go home.  Take your mask off and hangout in your backyard on your deck, patio, lawn, balcony, or open a window.  You don’t have to feel like a prisoner.  Just wear a mask please?

We all get to take off a mask once were home at the end of the day, I have to wear my eye patch until I go to bed & put it on before I leave the bedroom.  I’d rather see things normally than not.  I’d also rather treat people with respect so they don’t have to get sick or die, so I wear a mask on the odd occasion I’m in public.

Miami is a hot spot, so guess what happened on Monday?  13 players & staff  for Miami’s baseball team tested positive for the virus.  The comissioner of MLB cancelled all games involving Miami until Monday, August 3rd.  Baseball players usually play a game everyday (60 games from July 23rd until the beginning of October, 6 days off).  On Tuesday night Miami got 4 more tests back that were positive for the virus.  Like nobody saw this coming?????  Better off cancelling the season all together.

LET ME MAKE THIS BLUNT.  IF YOU’RE NOT WEARING A MASK IN PUBLIC & PUBLIC DISTANCING, YOU’RE PART OF THE PROBLEM!

My instructor at SIAST past away this weekend.  This is the man that taught me how to run a printing press.  I was also his guinea pig for the CO-OP work program.  I haven’t talked with him since I was working.  I do remember that if I had a test with him, the chances of passing the test increased if popcorn with butter & lots of salt were made for him.  R.I.P. Gord

https://leaderpost.remembering.ca/obituary/gordon-moffat-1079573550

Other stuff I played through.  I’ll do this for a few days, learn the rest of “Master of Puppets”, then learn some Trivium.

Stuff I’ve learned, never the solo though.

I don’t know if this counts as a song without the solo?  2 notes & 1 chord.  Below.

Tighten this up.  Everything gets better as you play any song.

This is improving everyday!

KIM HAS THURSDAY & FRIDAY OFF NEXT WEEK.  JUST A POST ON WEDNESDAY NEXT WEEK!

450 Curls w/ 20 pound dumb bells

250 Shoulder raises/Chest presses w/ 10 pound dumb bells

750 Crunches

750 Leg lifts

300 Squats

420 Back flexes

1:35 hours of yoga over 2 days

Wednesday seems to be the day when I feel really tired & very soar.  Extra stretching is needed from Wednesday until the week is over.  Kim & I both were sore Wednesday morning.  She’s sore/stiff everyday, I just notice it after a few days of exercise.  Not sure if we need a new mattress or exactly what the problem is?  I figure it’s the exercise & body getting a bit older as I push myself harder?

Kim & I met at SIAST (Saskatchewan Institute of Science & Technology) in the Graphic Arts Production (GAP) program.  She was there before I was & finished a semester earlier than me.  We both got our graduation deploma & finished the GATF (Graphic Arts Technical Foundation) test/requirements.  She’s worked as a desktop designer ever since.  I went into the program to become a desktop designer as well, I changed my mind after the initial semester.

I wanted to be more hands on with the physical product & focused on the production/printing part of the process.  I learned how to operate different printing presses.  I worked as a printing press operator until I got cancer in 2008.

I never thought I’d be the type of person to be in a job that was pretty much manual labor.  That being said I’ve only had 1 desk job prior to that.

Kim’s pretty responsible at her desk.  She does actually take the time to get out of her chair & stretch a few times a day.  Up until I spent a year in a hospital bed I was fairly active as well.  I figure that we’re sore in the morning from just getting older?

I did extra stretching on Wednesday after my exercises, & Thursday before my exercises & it made the little amount of pain go away!

With baseball returning, Jimmy Kimmel live, & The Late Show with Stephen Colbert still on TV, I find myself rushing more than usual to get stuff done.  Exercise, have breakfast & lunch, check my computer, play guitar, have supper, and watch TV.  I even found myself watching baseball while struming my acoustic guitar on the couch when the string broke & there was a rain delay in the preseason game.  Kim was out for a bike ride so I pulled out the vacuum.

Lately I just don’t sleep much during the week 5:30 hours a night has been the axerage for me.  I get up & do things as quietly as possible.  Eat, exercise, tend to any dishes waiting in or out of the dishwasher, do the hand wash dishes, check my computer, practice unplugged electric guitar, or anything that won’t wake up Kim & Brewster.  I just hate having dirty dishes out, so I usually get to them first.

Met up with my aunt, uncle, & their new 1 year old puppy, Gibson.  Short visit, but Brewster & Gibson were happy and playing the entire time.  They’re about the same size.  Gibson is probably 1/2” taller.  He’s a Cocker Spaniel/Poodle cross.  Very handsome dog!

I played guitar from January 30th, 2001 – February 3rd, 2008.  I broke 2 strings on a my guitar while playing it during that time.  Now in 11 months with fairly new strings wound the same way as I used to do, I have broken 2 strings.  One on my first electric guitar a few months ago, & a string on my acoustic guitar broke this week.  I don’t even have a wammy bar on any of my guitars, & they’re tuned to a lower note?  Weird?  Hello amazon, music stores are out of stock on quite a bit of stuff during this time.

I learned Led Zeppelin’s “Kashmir” in standard tuning, then found out it was wrong & now I’m learning it with the strings tuned DADGad instead of standard tuning EADGbe.  No solos in this song but a TON of orchestral parts to simulate on guitar.  Little licks to play on occasion!  I never even considered trying to play Led Zeppelin before since I busy singing.

The Toronto Blue Jays were set to call Pittsburge home for this shortened baseball season.  The Canadian Federal government denied their application to play in Toronto & the Pittsburge health officials said they can’t play home games there.  They have their first ‘home’ game on Wednesday, July 29th, 2020.  The regular season starts tonight for the Jays as the visiting team in FLORIDA???  How on earth do two Florida based teams get to play any games there in a hot spot for the virus, then travel throughout the USA to play baseball???  At worst the Jays will be  playing as the home team in other teams parks, starting Wednesday, until early October.

Let me break down what has happened since Tuesday with a couple of MLB games to start Thursday evening.  The LA Dodgers signed a player who will average a paycheck of $30,416,000 every year for the next 12 years.  The Toronto Blue Jays have no home field, & a player for Washington tested positive for Covid-19, 20 minutes later from that report he has a rapid test that has negative results, he did not participate in the game.  The initial test was taken on Tuesday & the results were given Thursday afternoon.  He participated in a preseason game against Baltimore on Tuesday.  The rest of the Washington team plays Thursday evening regardless.  At the time of me writing this, the MLB season hasn’t even started & could be done soon.  I miss sports, but just shut them down for the year!  Oh yeah 54 year old Mike Tyson is going to box one exhibition match.  Good grief, he had a video game on NES in the 1980s?!?!

“Is everybody going crazy?”

For the weekend & next week I’ll polish up “Kashmir” then work on Metallica’s  “Master of Puppets” & Foo Fighters’ “The Pretender”.  I might as well throw Foo Fighters’ “Monkey Wrench” into the mix since I’ve been messing around with it.

Same notes as I play but I play it in different areas.

What has been on heavy rotation for me lately, “Ghost Reveries” by Opeth, and “One Day Remains” by Alter Bridge.

We headed out of town after Kim was done work on Wednesday, July 15th.  We went to visit her parents, just south of Prince Albert, about a 3:30 hour drive.  It’s actually a hamlet with a population of less than 40 people.  Quiet & very relaxing.  I’d say it’s just as relaxing as my family’s cabin.  I can’t go out to the cabin anymore, it’s not wheelchair accessible in anyway.

Kim’s parents’ place is easier for me to get around in with my wheelchair.  The only issue is that it takes me a lot longer to adapt to my surroundings in a wheelchair.

The biggest issue was in my head.  I was in a VERY relaxed space, but I just felt guilty about not doing something.  I couldn’t stop thinking that I should be exercising, making my week of food, tending to our dishes, etc.

The first 2 of the 3 nights we were there I didn’t sleep well at all for some reason?  We’d go to bed around 10:00 pm every night, but the first 2 nights I was wide awake at 2:20 am then 5:00 am the second night.  I crashed hard for a solid 3 hour nap Friday afternoon & slept really well that night.

Don’t ask me why, my brain just doesn’t stop thinking about what I feel I should be doing.  I still feel as though I’m at least 20 years behind everyone.  I continue to think to myself that I don’t deserve a break since I have so much to do before I can even consider resting.

The only time I feel it’s acceptable to take a break is when Kim has time off, calendar holidays, if I’m sick (which actually feels like a waste of time to me), and when my body just yells at me in pain (another waste of time to me).

Even though I couldn’t feel relaxed, it was nice to go there to see them & Kim’s brother made it for supper on Thursday & Friday.  The bonus were the fresh homemade cinnamon buns!

The entire time we spent there I thought it was me just not being used to my surroundings.  I slept fine Friday night there.  We got home Saturday afternoon & I slept fine Saturday night.  Then comes Sunday night & I barely slept.  Got out of bed around 5:00 am.  Did a few things around the house (quietly), had my breakfast, & finished my exercise by 7:30 am.

When I practice guitar I use a metronome when I do scales & finger exercises.  I play rhythm stuff, so I don’t want the beat to change.  As stated in this video, there are 3 things that make up musicality.  Rhythm, melody, & harmony.  Go to 2:15 minutes in the video to hear what Paul Reed Smith has to say about that…

I’ve found that practicing unplugged REALLY helps, as does practicing on my acoustic guitar (which I need to do more often).  I see a week of Led Zeppelin coming at me!  “Kashmir”, “Whole Lotta Love”, “Houses of the Holy”, & more “Immigrant Song”!

Shipment date for this guitar ordered in January is still set for August 21st 2020.  Feels like a lifetime though!

S2 Custom 22 Semi-Hollow Body Guitar w/Gig Bag - McCarty Sunburst

I’m still saving for this guitar which would arrive 3 months after I place the order or 6 months if they’re backed up still due to the virus.  If everything works out, I hope to order it in the spring.

S2 McCarty 594 Electric Guitar with Gigbag - Whale Blue

I’m hoping an upgrade in paint colour won’t be too much extra, if it is I’ll stick with the ‘Whale Blue’ colour that’s offered.  I’d like it to be in this ‘Violet Blue Burst’ colour.

I’ll stop spending money & hopefully get this amplifier & footswitch in 2022.  Kim tells me to continue saving up for this.  I’d like to get this sooner than later, but I have a decent amplifier to use while I wait a bit.

Quality over quantity.  I am VERY excited for my guitar to get here in August.  Probably looks like just another guitar to most people.  Even the salesman that’s helping me order it from the factory is pretty enthusiastic about it.

Guitar first, then the amplifier & footswitch later on.  This is as long as everything goes as planned & is perfect.  I think we can all agree that the world is far from perfect at the moment.

Definite progress during Monday’s guitar practice on these 2 songs.  Practiced parts of them on my acoustic over the weekend!

I gotta say that not being able to sing has made me attempt more technical guitar parts (to me) that I wouldn’t have even considered before.  I’m really not into solos though.  They just don’t seem as memorable to me.

With the President’s polling numbers are in the gutter, he could turn them around a bit if he’d just do his job & let Dr. Fauci speak as to how to deal with the virus.

I wish Donald Trump would swallow his pride, admit he’s wrong about the Coronavirus at least & help save lives.  Instead he’s done the complete opposite, almost to the point he’s encouraging death to the USA citizens.  Just a sad, screwed up situation.

Please wear a mask in public, practice physical distancing, & listen to health professionals & local government.  EVERYWHERE!!!!

Metallica are set to release their CD & Movie “S&M2” on August 28th (Symphony & Metallica) with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra.  Here’s the single, a new acoustic song for this occasion.

P.S.  I was practicing Monday night unplugged.  I finished up for the evening, I was feeling pretty good about my practice & thought I’d have a small bowl of ice cream while hanging out with Kim.  SHE ATE MY ICE CREAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I was gonna hold off on buying the amplifier, but that changed instantly, so she told me to have a banana?!  She didn’t care about the amplifier, she ate my Ben & Jerry’s.

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

JUST A POST ON WEDNESDAY.  KIM HAS THURSDAY & FRIDAY OFF NEXT WEEK & SO DO I.

Welcome back to the program!  You’re here so if you like what you see, might as well subscribe?  Either on Facebook or with your email in the bottom right corner, it’s really that easy & it’s free!  I know you want to tell your friends, go ahead!

Stuff I’ve learned on guitar other than 5 or 6 scale patterns I do as a warm up.  All of these songs are new to me on guitar!

450 Curls w/ 20 pound dumb bells

250 Shoulder raises/Chest presses w/ 10 pound dumb bells

500 Crunches

500 Leg lifts

200 Squats

280 Back flexes

1:30 hours of yoga over 2 days

I guess when you think about it I’ve done OK.  Went into the hospital at 265 pounds, dropped to 200 pounds, and couldn’t put on any weight so I ate nothing but sugar until I weighed about 280.  I was at 226 on January 1st & now I’m stronger at a weight of 213 pounds.  In 1998 I was 185 pounds, I know my weight will never be in the 100s.

There’s no secret to my weight loss.  A diet is what you eat all of the time.  It’s not where you change what you eat until you lose weight & return to your previous type of food & beverage.  No matter what you’re eating & drinking over an extended period of time, don’t expect to gain or lose weight.  I’ve been eating the same thing for breakfast, lunch, & 3 small snacks a day since 2015, & I exercise 1:30 hours or more 5 days a week.

I pay attention to what I eat & how much of it.  I drink only water 99% of the time.  2 eggs a day, 0% yogurt, hummus, crackers, fish, 1 banana, and a glass of a mixed vegetable juice that I make, supper is the only wild card & it’s about portion control.  Kim drinks water, coffee, & tea.  We buy 1 liter of skim milk and sometimes use the entire liter before it spoils.  There’s always a vegetable tray in the fridge too.  No pop, just Bubbly sparkling water with natural fruit flavour.

I gotta say that this week my self-motivation to exercise has seriously dropped.  I exercise, but I really don’t like pushing myself to do it.  Maybe my body needs a break?  I’m still sore, stiff & tired.  Hopefully our long weekend next week will do the trick

If I try to relax, I get fidgety, I feel like I should be doing something.  It’s odd, I don’t want to do anything but I feel guilty just doing nothing?  Kim even mentioned it a few weeks ago.

I mentioned in the last post that I’d like another guitar.  I’m saying right now I don’t need another guitar.  I’ve got one on order, I’m saving for another, & I’m saving to upgrade my amplifier.  I need to play/hear the stuff that’s coming to me before I purchase anything else.  I’m VERY happy with what I have & what’s coming to me.  Another guitar, maybe in 4 years or more, or maybe not at all?

All of that being said, there’s a lot of stuff I don’t want & we don’t have a dispossable income.  Who does?  Other than 7 bands that I’ll purchase actual CDs from, 2 or 3 bands on iTunes, & then streaming, I don’t really want anything else.  Maybe 2 X 26 ounce bottles of rum a year but really that’s all.  Saving money for more important stuff should & will be a priority.  Exhibit A; Brewster’s health.  Exhibit B; We’d like to move to a house & not a condo.

I’ve looked into Harley Benton guitars quite a bit.  They’re really low priced knock offs of other brand name guitars.  They’re made somewhere in Asia & sell for $400 or less plus the shipping.  They look nice from a distance.  Some people say they’re great while others have received guitars with serious issues.  I think I’d avoid them.  I don’t want to pay $100 plus shipping to get a guitar that needs $200 worth of work to fix it.  Too many EXTREMELY random issues on the guitars they sell.

Practicing these songs.  I learn from this guy or mostly proper guitar tabs where I’ll have to change one little thing to make it right.

This guy’s AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  There are many more, a lot of stuff fell into place this week.  I still have to put all of the parts together for Led Zeppelin’s “Kashmir”.  Maybe I’ll get brave & post some videos on the Facebook page soon?  That’s still a hard maybe.

Maybe I’m watching the news at the wrong time or people have learned to protest peacefully?  I hope the latter is true.  Nothing has changed other than more people are talking about racial injustice.  That’s a good starting point.  Now keep going!

The Toronto Blue Jays regular season starts on Friday July 24th.  I’ll be watching on TV as usual!

Spent a couple of hours learning all of this but the solo on Monday!  Tighten things up somewhat today & maybe tomorrow, then move on.  Scales & rhythm warm ups are always first!

Most of learning a song is memorizing the parts & order of them followed by putting everything together & making the transitions smooth.

Still July 1st as I write most of this.  Really upset/disappointed with myself & my 6 month results.  Kim fed me ice cream & beer.  I’m a light weight now when it comes to alcohol.  I’m on my 3rd & final beer of the evening, please excuse the following as I intend to leave it as is.

Well the 6 month total was TERRIBLE for me!  Lost 13 pounds, so where the hell was any of the muscle I put on?  I’m 40 years old & lighter than I was in 1999, but I still can’t fit a 38” waist?  I was wearing a 38” waist pair of jeans when I was working at 265 pounds.  TERRIBLE, DISAPPOINTING, FORGETTABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I feel like I just wasted 6 months!!!

I think the end of this video explains my saving for a mid-range PRS guitar, not a $7000 PRS.  The one I’m saving for is wired, heavy, & the neck feels like a Gibson Les Paul.  I love Les Paul style guitars, I have 2, neither are Gibson Les Paul guitars.  If I wanted a Gibson Les Paul it would cost me $1000 more, be a reissue, & have the same body shape of 2 of my current guitars.  That’s why I did extensive research on an already expensive guitar.

After my results of 6 months of hard work, I’m INCREDIBLY upset with myself & don’t even feel as though I deserve it.  Scale went the wrong way!  I was expecting 10 pounds of muscle added, not 13 pounds off.

S2 McCarty 594 Electric Guitar with Gigbag - Faded Blue Smokeburst

A review of a ‘PRS style’ Harley Benton guitar LANGUAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I watched more videos on Harley Benton guitars aka really cheap copies of big brand name guitars.  Most videos on www.youtube.com were guys in a room with 20-35 Harley Benton guitars that had nothing good to say about them.  I’m thinking “You’re complaining about a guitar company making guitars that cost $110 each after you’ve bought 20 of them.  It took you 20 guitars to realize they weren’t as perfect as the actual thing?”  People pointing out random flaws on every guitar, flaws that would be noticed by anyone who has played guitar for 5 years or more.  If I was a beginner, I would grab ONE & not care.  I was just laughing the whole way through!  Does it sound like an electric guitar?  Sure it does, something cheap but nice to learn on.

Nobody cares about what brand the guitar is other than the owner.  The guitar I played from 2001-February 2008 was a Tradition Les Paul.  The company no longer exists, great guitar that I played live for all but 3 or 4 of the 100s of live shows.

After watching a totally different PRS factory tour by the head of the S2 series, I’ve never been so certain on a guitar choice in my life!

I’m saving my pennies, it’s gonna happen!

Guitar rant over.  No further inebriated blogging!

I’m over my numbers on July 1st, I wasn’t looking at it the right way.  Many people can see the difference of added muscle.  The scale is just a number.  Comfort food & alcohol, I was fine the next day, however I ate other food my body isn’t used to the next evening & paid the price at 6:30 am Friday morning.  Really nice day outdoors but not inside me.  After 2:00 pm I avoided any & all food & liquid.  Sugar & I aren’t a good mix, I think I’ll stay clear of that for at least a few weeks!

My dad did manage to sell my mountain bike & Kim’s old one to my parents’ neighbors.  No need to take them to a pawn shop.  Into the guitar fund it goes!

Kim took 3 grocery bags of DVDs to pawn for me Saturday morning.  We also had tickets to a concert on July 3rd that was postponed due to Covid-19.  It was postponed until late January of 2021.  Sooner than I’d like so that was refunded & also added to the guitar savings.

I reaffirmed my decision on this evening of Saturday, July 4, 2020.  I’m going to continue the eating healthy, no caffeine, very little sugar/alcohol, very few (if any) TV/movie purchases, & far less music purchases.  All of this will continue after the purchase of the guitar, amplifier, & footswitch.  This will not only save us money but also make me healthier.  The exercise will either continue where it’s at or more than likely increase soon.

Of course I can think of another guitar I’d like.  Is it going to happen?  I’d say no on our budget!  Heck the guitar & amplifier purchases I’m saving for now could easily be pushed back if they happen at all.  Doesn’t mean I’ll stop saving money.

S2 McCarty 594 Electric Guitar with Gigbag - Faded Blue Smokeburst

I tend to doubt myself & can be VERY critical of myself, always expecting more.  That was my Canada Day, July 1st.  Much more self-confident now & more determined than I was 6 months ago.

Yes, I practice a LOT!  I’m often found with a 1 liter bottle of water near me with a guitar in hand.  I said on January 1st that 2020 was going to be my year!  So despite all of the disastrous things going on this year, I turned 40 in January & I plan to have a spectacular year…..indoors.

After losing 13 pounds, which wasn’t what I wanted.  I realize that I have put on quite a bit of muscle.  I now have a left calf muscle, my arms, shoulders, & chest are more defined.  I was angry at myself for what was actually a good thing!  I told you I’m an idiot…….at least I have now!

I was energized & feeling great on Sunday.  I got up early made my eggs, fish, and a pitcher of vegetable juice for the week then vacuumed the house all before noon.  I was thinking that this will be a FANTASTIC start to the 2nd half of 2020.

I didn’t exercise Monday, I was lazy.  I woke up at 4 am rolled around while drifting in & out of sleep.  I woke up completely at 7:30 am & just stayed in bed until 11:00 am, didn’t want to do anything.  I then got up, ate, & practiced guitar

Justin Trudeau, keep the border closed……

The virus & racism are the biggest issues facing the human race at the moment, followed closely by climate change & a million other things.  You know what I think so here is John Dolmayan, the drummer from “System of a Down”……

Some study a few years ago showed that overall metal music has a calming effect on listeners.  While I was progressively feeling worse after my July 1st post I listened to these 3 songs & felt SO much more relaxed and generally better about the entire ordeal.

HAPPY CANADA DAY!  HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!

Pretty sure I was sick for a week (food poisoning) & then I just stuck with regular holidays in Saskatchewan.  Likely 9 days & weekends without exercising, yes I’m sore, tired, & looking forward to a 5 day weekend.

So I lost 13 pounds & my measurements stayed the same mostly.  Not what I was expecting, but that’s where I’m at, at the ripe age of 40.Chris

There is racism against black people in Canada.  Regina, Saskatchewan is a small city, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan is the biggest city in Saskatchewan.  From what I see on the news, there is more racism against black people in larger cities outside of Saskatchewan.  Here in Regina it is more towards the aboriginal community.  This is a delicate situation we’re in.  We can’t have the police not do their job, but we also need to see equal treatment for EVERYONE.  Racism is a real thing in Canada but I can’t find any history of it that is anywhere near the level the history or current state that America has!  I still say, keep up with the peaceful protests until there’s a change!

Halifax, Nova Scotia.  Small city in the Maritime Provinces off the east coast of Canada…

Not sure when my guitar will get here from Stevensville, Maryland, USA now?  The website says “When ordered, this item usually arrives at our warehouse within 210 business days (7 months). We will advise if there are any delays due to the Covid19 pandemic.” As of this moment if you order this guitar.  Mine was ordered on January 15th, 2020 with a shipping date of mid-April 2020 then delayed until August 21st, 2020 then Covid-19 happened.

I wouldn’t expect anyone to have an accurate date for the shipment of my guitar at this point?  I’m giddy about it, but I understand things aren’t normal right now & that even asking for a shipment date is kind of pointless.  My order is in the system, it’ll get here when it’s ready.  Merry Christmas to me??  Money is saved up as of last year for this…

S2 Custom 22 Semi-Hollow Body Guitar w/Gig Bag - McCarty Sunburst

There’s currently a (180 days) 6 month wait for the guitar I plan to order.  If I could put down 10% for the down payment, which mostly covers the 11% tax, I’d put the down payment in ASAP & order it, on the other side I won’t have the full payment in 6 months.  Good things come to those who wait I hope.  Hopefully an order will be placed by May or June 2021 if not earlier?

S2 McCarty 594 Electric Guitar with Gigbag - Faded Blue Smokeburst

Guitar first hands down!  Amplifier & footswitch can be purchased afterwards.  Packed up 4 grocery bags of DVDs.  One for the family cabin & 3 to pawn.  Also my mountain bike & Kim’s old mountain bike, since she just got a new bike.  Trade in 3 guitar pedals I don’t use as well, more money for the guitar!

NOW THEY’RE ALARMED????????????????????

I really need to stop watching any & all news!

Lamb of God released a self-titled album as their 10th album, if you include the 2 albums they released as “Burn the Priest”, FANTASTIC new album.  In Flames just released a 20th anniversary edition of their album “Clayman” with 5 new songs.  I’ve got the original, Swedish melodic death metal ages very well!  Between Lamb of God, In Flames, & Trivium, I’m listening to a TON of metal.

1:20 hours of yoga over 2 days

In the last 3 weeks I have increased every exercise show above other than squats.

A lot of scales, finger exercise, & just using my pinky finger more!  Using my pinky finger for regular power chords instead of my index, middle, & ring finger, like I’ve always done.  Now I have to train my pinky finger to use it in everything!

Kim has Thursday & Friday off next week & Wednesday is Canada day!  We have a 5 day weekend next week, so I don’t really want to spend my time on a computer.  I’ll put up a 6 month review of my weight, measurements, & exercises since January 1st for you on Wednesday.

Doctor appointment on Tuesday with my family Dr. just for refills. He told me “It’s good to see you.  You brighten my day”.  Really nice guy, I imagine he’s getting close to retirement.  It’s always good to see him too!  He’s happy to see me doing so well since he became my doctor while I was in the hospital innitially in 2008.  Great guy!

On Wednesdays I notice I feel the fatigue from Monday & Tuesday.  I start to get a little sore & I tend to lay in bed until 8:30 or 9:00.  This week I finally picked up on it, & I was pressed for time.  Practiced guitar for a bit & pulled out DVDs to send to my family cabin, since Netflix isn’t always great out there.  More shelf space now, less clutter.  One of the days when I just don’t have enough time to get everything done.

Well no coffee since Tuesday, May 19th & I don’t even miss it.  Also 1 ounce of alcohol a week or none since then too.  I don’t crave it either, I just need something other than a gallon of water everyday.  Going without that stuff feels great & right from the start I intended, & still do, to make it a permanent change.  This won’t stop after I purchase the amplifier, footswitch, & guitar.

I’m not about to rush out & buy anything right away.  I’ll have money for the amplifier & footswitch before I’ll be able to afford the guitar.  I’d like to have a few hundred dollars saved for the guitar before I get the amplifier & footswitch.  I’m thinking about getting the amplifier & footswitch in February?  After Christmas & my birthday in January, all the while waiting for my guitar ordered in January, expected delay with the virus though, after the innitial delay.

I practice guitar so much now.  I won’t be better than I was necessarily.  I’ll be tecnically a better player, fixing bad habits & other things others won’t notice.  I can’t sing right now, I’m working on guitar stuff, but I’ll still be a rhythm/riff player with more knowledge than before.

I get into our office/guitar room/computer room & I say to myself “OK, 1:30 hours today” then it ends up being almost 3:30 hours Tuesday through Thursday then usually 1:30 more in the evening.  Friday through Monday I can watch my few TV shows whenever.  Ellen Degeneres is watched everyday though!  Late night shows are the next day.

This doesn’t make me feel any better.  He even said, as a devote Republican, he will not vote for Trump or Biden this year.  He said this in an interview with Stephen Colbert after having worked with Donald Trump for 17 months, I think he would know best.

I’m guessing this news is EVERYWHERE & not just in Canada.  The most noticable change should come from the top & filter down.  I hope the peaceful protests continue until there is a change.  I’m not turning this into an anti-Trump site, but we know he’s not going to make a change for the better.  If anything he’s fanning the flames.

As a neighbor to the USA, please vote in November.  Whichever candidate you choose to elect.  If I could vote legally in the USA election, I would.  I can’t being a Canadian but it’s EVERYWHERE.

Ther NEEDS to be a change!  Watching people die for something that should be a slap on the wrist is HORRID.  Black Lives Matter!  This isn’t rocket science, this is humanity, change it.  There’s nothing humane about this situation.  As I ay this know that there are plenty of great police officers.  There’s always a few bad apples that develop a sweeping stereotype though.

Songs I finally put all of the parts together on guitar “Foo Fighters” 2 songs “For all the Cows” & “My Hero”

I finally put 2 songs together out of the 800 pieces I have for 20(?) songs then I figured last night to change the way I play since my brother was harping at me that I avoid using my pinky finger from 2001-2008, back to the drawing board.  Finger exercises & about 4-6 different scales are practiced regularly, so switching wasn’t terrible, it wasn’t great either.

I didn’t even look these up & I typically watch guitar stuff on www.youtube.com these 2 videos just appeared when I opened the program.  To be fair, I know Canadians who now live in the USA & think its FANTASTIC!

It’s not a competition & not everything is perfect in Canada.  I wish nothing but the best for people everywhere.  I know I’m fortunate to live in Canada.  I can’t say much about the USA, since I’ve never lived there and only visited for a week.

I blew up on Friday & if I offended someone, well it’s done with so let’s move on.  I’m not apologizing for it, because that’s me.  As a Canadian watching everything unfold everywhere & in the USA, I can’t imagine why people living I the USA haven’t totally erupted yet?  I only know a little bit about American history & look what it did to me!  With all of this non-sense happening in an already divided world, it all got to me at once.  Then we rented the movie “Just Mercy” on the weekend.  The guy was on death row for a murder that took place 3 miles away in 1986 or 1987, but he’s black & it’s based on a true story.

Buckle in it’s gonna be a bumpy ride if anything is going to change.  To the protesters, don’t stop but keep it peaceful.  Just because people have died doesn’t mean more have to.  Might as well deal with the issue at hand & expect someone to do their job to fix this.  It’s 2020 and still some people think killing people because of the colour of their skin it’s OK?  IT’S NOT!  What if the roles were reversed?  Then would it be OK?  No don’t eliminate the police teach them.  Defund the police doesn’t mean eliminate them it means putting that money into other services to help people.  Teach the current police and implement this teaching in schools every year, for everyone.  If an officer doesn’t want to learn, I guess they need to find a new occupation.

I’m not a fan of Donald Trump, does that mean I should die or that my opinion?  Is it better or worse than anybody else’ opinion?  NO!  Donald Trump didn’t start any of this.  He also has yet to make a positive change.  He’s powerful & could do something & for now, we’re all waiting for him to do something positive for a change.

Is anyone surprised by this video?  If so, WHY?

I haven’t been shocked by his actions or lack of action since early 2019.  What would shock me is if he did his job to make EVERYONE feel safer.

After skimming the history of America, I can honestly say I would be terrified all of the time living there no matter what colour my skin is.  That racial divide exists in Canada, but nowhere near that level from what I’ve found.  The majority of North American’s have ancestors that were immigrants other than aboriginals.  Our ancestors came here for a better life.  Does anyone think for a second that this is what they envisioned for the future of their family name?  I’m guessing it’s not & if you think they can see what’s going on now, would they approve?  I’m gonna go with a hard NO on that one.

This shouldn’t be a black person’s problem to solve.  This is for the legal system & white people to solve.  Call me ignorant as it’s deserved, that history of a HUGE racial divide is hard to see but also worth knowing about.  Something everyone should know about and change as they see fit.  Nobody can make a complete change for a person but they can help you along the way to making a change.  I don’t think doing nothing is a good thing, I just don’t know how to help as a Canadian?

However people want to judge me is totally up to them.  I’m saving for that guitar & the amplifier.  I’m broke just like most people.  There’s no chance that a large sum of money will fall from the sky into my lap.  So I’m gonna save & cut costs for myself wherever I can.

I don’t drink alcohol, I don’t drink tea or coffee, I don’t drink pop, I don’t watch much TV, I don’t buy movies anymore, I don’t travel, I rarely go out for dinner (maybe 3 times a year), & I spend my money on the odd CD now, & some streaming on Apple Music.  So all of that stuff (bicycle & guitar pedals) & my current guitar amplifier will be traded in for the guitar, amplifier, & footswitch.  That’s what I would like & that’s where my money will go!  I don’t want or need anything else.  Kim wants to travel, I don’t.  What I do want is to spend time with my wife & see her reactions to something new.  Those things make me happy.

Different guitar, but I’ve decided on this colour.  Photos on the actual site don’t look as good.  I still plan to order the PRS S2 McCarty 594 guitar.

When I say I don’t want to travel, I mean the travelling part of it.  Seeing a different culture, trying the food, learning about the background, etc. that’s always interesting & cool to know.  Now more than ever since I’m in a wheelchair, being in familiar surroundings makes a world of difference & even with 3’ wide doors, I still bang into the door frames.  Being able to do simple things like get into my own bed, go to the washroom, have room in the kitchen to do whatever is needed, etc.  I like the fact that I can do that myself since our place was built for a wheelchair.  The family cabin isn’t wheelchair accessible & I find it to be more work than relaxing.

“Lamb of God”, “Trivium”, “Haley Williams”, “Pearl Jam”, & “Testament” have all released FANTASTIC albums this year!  Stream, download, or buy them however you get your music I HIGHLY recommend them!

If you’re getting this through Facebook, give it a like or other reaction, or share it.  That’s the only way of promoting this site, since I’m not profiting from this in any way.
