I fell asleep to “Lamb of God” the album “Sacrament”, followed by “The Watchmen” the album “Live & in Stereo”

I exercised to “Into Eternity” the album “Buried in Oblivion”

I vaguely remember moving from the Pasqua hospital to WRC.  I didn’t understand why I had to move?  I was doing some light physiotherapy at the Pasqua.  I was very unclear as to why I was moving?  When I started my physio, occupational, & exercise therapy, I understood why the move was necessary.  I didn’t know at first, then I realized the focus was on therapy as well as being able to receive the medication I needed.

I had all of my family & friends come to see me within the first 2 years, 2008 & 2009.  Some I hadn’t seen for a while & some that I’d see daily from work.  Even my employer was calling my parents daily to get an update!

I was still in the Pasqua hospital for my 29th birthday in January of 2009.  I heard there were roughly 70 people there.  Mom made a huge amount of chili for everyone & Grandma made a couple of cakes for everyone.  I couldn’t really drink any type of liquid but know alcohol was not allowed.  I think there was a choice of pop & juice?

If you’re here strictly for the cancer news, that’s all I have for you today.

Here’s what Dave Grohl thought of the Metallica vs. Napster argument back in 2000 or 2001.

ACQUIRED BRAIN INJURY

I fell asleep to “Soundgarden” the album “Badmotorfinger”

Don’t feel as though you must open every link.

I have what’s called an ‘acquired brain injury’.  I don’t know of anyone else that has had my specific type of brain cancer.  It’s more common in children than young adults, that’s not cool.  I was in a program with other people who’ve had brain injuries.  We’d all get together to play games.  I didn’t get to go very often, Brewster is high maintenance & has anxiety attacks when left alone.  I’m sure there were people in the Wascana Rehabilitation Center that have experienced or future patients that will.  Sure it changes a lot of things, you just have to make adjustments yourself!  Do you have a child?  If you do, I can almost guarantee your life is different now than it was before having a child?  Life changed instantly & now it makes things slightly challenging or just different.  Nobody necessarily likes change & I totally get that.  I have a lot of help if I need it, there’s even a program at the WRC called the ABI program to help me anytime down the road if needed.  In the end, this being alive stuff sure beats the alternative!

My sciatic nerve is better, but there is still a tiny bit of pain there.  It’s still the best it’s felt since November.  I saw my massage therapist last week.  She said it was much better even before my massage.  After my massage she told me to see my chiropractor, she said I had a few ribs out of place.  I can’t feel anything out of whack in my ribs, just my lower back & a bit down my right leg.

Barenaked Ladies shared it.  Maybe they should take some time off instead of releasing an album of previous material with another group?

So I could go to Moose Jaw to see the “Offspring” a 40-45 minute drive to see a band that I’m a very, very casual fan of.  This was the first song my first band learned to play (I was but a singer at the time).

Or I could make the mind-numbing 2 & ½ hour drive to Saskatoon to see Ed Sheeran, who I really like.

I like Ed Sheeran, but I loathe the drive to Saskatoon & I’ve seen Ed Sheeran in Regina once.  Do I go to Saskatoon or hold out for ‘In Flames’ to come from Sweden to Saskatoon.

I can definitely say I don’t need to see The Offspring.  I’ve seen In Flames once or twice & wasn’t disappointed.  The sound for Ed Sheeran in Regina was dreadful & everybody watched 75% of the show through a cell phone.  Kim would prefer Ed Sheeran, so we’ll see how much tickets are?  In Flames have yet to announce any North American dates.

This show could be WAY over our budget?

Why does U2 need to reissue one of their biggest albums for $24.99 on iTunes with a bunch of older songs added to it?  ‘The Joshua Tree’ was roughly $25 in the ‘80s when it came out on CD.  Thanks, I bought it decades ago & it sounds fine.  32 extra songs from different albums that older U2 fans already own?  I don’t know how many people are newer U2 fans that would purchase this?  I’m a big U2 fan, but this just screams “CASH GRAB” to me.

I guess U2 was my absolute favourite band until I Mother Earth released “Scenery & Fish” in 1996.  Then Canada began their post-grunge movement.  Our Lady Peace, Matthew Good Band, The Tea Party, The Age of Electric, Limblifter, Moist, The Inbreds, Finger Eleven, Treble Charger, Econoline Crush, etc.  I guess you could put Big Wreck in here as well. Their 1st release was in 1997.

Let me set the scene for you, this happened quite often.  It’s 1996, my brother & I are doing dishes after supper.  Our parents have retired to the living room.  My brother & I are addicted to I Mother Earth’s “Scenery & Fish” album.  After a few minutes of the album playing in the kitchen our mother yells at us “TURN THAT CRAP DOWN!”  We turn it down, but not enough?  She yells again “TURN IT DOWN NOW!”  We turn it down more, now we can’t hear it.  So we turn it up.  This struggle goes on until the dishes are done about an hour later.

OK, does anyone gain anything in this scenario?  Do the verbal abusers gain anything?  This is just one example, in the end it’s just people hurting other people for being different.  WHY?

I guess “The Black Keys” are taking a break.

This group just drives me nuts for some reason, but so does Guns n’ Roses, couldn’t tell you why?

Whether you like them or not you had to know they’d get an award for sales at some point.  I just assume many people own everything Nickelback & lie to others saying “No not Nickelback, I hate them!”  Wait 4 minutes & the radio will change.  I don’t like them, but they’ve done nothing to harm me in any way.

Friday night we did nothing.  We were both tired.  I got up around 9:00am to pee & figured it was time to get up on Saturday.  Kim was cleaning so I just tried to stay out of her way.  We’re having a sleep over with our friends’ 3 year old.  Kim will be sleeping with someone else again tonight (Saturday night).  She got here at 3:00 pm & immediately went grocery shopping with “Auntie” Kim.  They got home around 4:00 pm and started making burritos.  It’s 5:45 pm & I’ve already had a stern talking to from the 3 year old………………Hahahahaha!  Hannah got up with “Auntie” Kim around 7:00 am and they made brownies.  It was a weekend of painting, stickers, markers, & dancing to the “Trolls” soundtrack.  It’s close to 11:00 am on Sunday.  I see the couch & Netflix in my near future!

Thank you Apple music.  We didn’t have to buy we just streamed it.  I got tired just watching Hannah dance before bed & again this morning.  Good thing I still really like this song.  It’s a really good movie to watch as a family too!  We’ve ordered it from amazon already, should be here early this week.

I found a new band.  If you like “Paramore” you might like “Blameshift”?  Very similar to me other than “Blameshift” is slightly heavier.

http://www.rollingstone.com/tv/news/sarah-michelle-gellar-reflects-on-buffy-20th-anniversary-w471568

Who enjoyed the Archie comic books way back in the day?  I sure did, I’d go grocery shopping with my mom & if there was an Archie comic at the till with a new release date & cover, I’d ask if I could have it.  There’s an original Netflix show on now called “Riverdale”, the name of the town where the Archie story takes place.  It has the Archie comic book characters but it looks like it will be a “Dateline” mini-series involving the characters, oddly addictive.  Some of the characters are completely different than they are portrayed in the comic book we watched the first 2 episodes of 6 last night.  Archie is the guy in high school, muscular QB of the football team, & slept with the music teacher in the woods the night/early morning of the shooting & they both heard the shot.  Jughead is not friends with Archie in the beginning.  It’s an interesting show.

Not just metal or rock all of the time

No I don’t purchase every album I hear, I do purchase a PILE of albums from iTunes though.   Kim has me on a monthly allowance on iTunes though, which is a good thing, or else we’d be on the streets with an iPod full of music.  When my iPod classic bites the bullet, I’m not sold on the replacement of an iPod touch.  128 gigs are enough for now, but I just want an MP3 player my classic 160 gig is more than enough room, I only have 105 of 130 gigs on my iPod.  I don’t want or need the other bells & whistles on my MP3 player.  All of the other stuff is add on so Apple can jack up the price of an iPod.  I just don’t like touch screens, camera or any other nonsense in my pocket.  I hate talking to people through a cell phone that cuts out every 12 seconds.  I’ll never understand the attraction to cell phones either?  If you’re not there, why would I talk to you when I’m out with others?  You had something else going on & couldn’t make or I didn’t invite you since I’m with a different circle of friends.  I’m not trying to be rude, but I don’t want to be connected to the world “24/7”.  I’d like to focus on the activity I’m doing at the moment.

Also I’m never out alone, and think about this.  Even if I was out on my own, a phone wouldn’t help prevent whatever happened, I’d likely use the phone afterwards.  Since I’m never out by myself, why do I need a phone when EVERYBODY else has one?  I have no plans to get a phone anytime soon.  If you’ve got one, great, I hope you enjoy it!  I’m holding out for the iPhone 74, and it won’t have anything on it, I’ll block my number & use it like a home phone, yeah I’ll use it to cut out on people as I TALK to them.  Texting?  I wouldn’t have a 17” monitor if I was going to a 6” cell phone screen.  Personal choice, I choose not to get one, & if I do, you’re going to strongly dislike the way I use it.  It will stay at home, I’ll use it like a home phone, email & Facebook will not be attached to it & if you get my number I will not respond to a text, a phone call only.  I don’t want/need a cell phone.

I’ll have to gradually increase my exercise.  1000 crunches so 200 a day.  300 leg lifts, 60/day.  150 stretching pushups, 30/day.  200 calf raises, 40/day.  I haven’t done squats or pushups yet.  I would rather wait until my nerve pain is completely gone.  We walk, but only in our suite, my foot tingles if I’m standing for too long.  So at the moment we’ve hit pause on waking in the parkade.

I’m aiming for 500 squats, pushups, & leg lifts a week & 7000 crunches a week.  That’s only 1400 crunches a day.  I was doing 1500 a day, I’m sure 1400 isn’t out of the question.  I’ll have to increase everything gradually though.  I was walking 800 meters with my walker & Kim once a week, I’ll likely have to slowly increase that as well.  This nerve pain is almost gone, when it is I’ll get back to reality.

I fell asleep to “Ascot Royals” everything on their 2 albums.

I exercised to “Big Wreck” all of it on shuffle.

Yes, I saw “Ascot Royals” open for “Big Wreck” last night at the casino.  AWESOME show.  I started listening to “Ascot Royals” last week & they’re AWESOME live as well as recorded.

I’ve never came out of a “Big Wreck” concert disappointed.  They’re not hard rock or metal, just straight up rock music, same with “Ascot Royals”.  Dave & Liz came with my dad & I.  Yes, my dad & I will have to call each other if we’re meeting in public.  He’s seen Foo Fighters 3 times & Big Wreck twice & we both get T-Shirts.  Can’t be out in public wearing the same shirt……………fashion faux pas!

I think last night was my 12 or 15th time seeing Big Wreck?  Their 1st album was released in ’97 I was only 17 & underage to see them in a bar.  When I turned 19, they were here 3 or 4 times a year & I never missed a show.  They broke up in 2002 after recording their 2nd album.  They reunited in 2012, & have released a total of 5 studio albums & a live EP with a cover song.

If “Big Wreck” is in Regina, I’m there.

It was nice to see that I’m not the only person who disapproves of cell phones at a concert.  Lead singer, Ian Thornley, had 4 or 5 people in front of him, right at the stage.  They all had their smartphones with them taking selfies & videos.  Between songs he addressed them.  He basically said to please put their phones away because the band sees them & then they “act” instead of playing music for people.  “Do my pants make me look weird?  This side’s my better side.  Gotta smile for the camera, etc.”  I guess they missed the announcement before the show?  “Here’s a song pre-smart phone” is how he introduced the next tune from their first album released in 1997.  The fans put their phones away & everything was good.

You turn off your phone at a movie theater, you smoke outside everywhere.  Why is this cell phone thing so hard?  We were in the balcony & it wasn’t a problem up there.

Don’t feel as though you have to click on every link.

Friday night we stayed in, babysat for our friends who were off to see “Blue Rodeo”.  Hannah slept over aka I hit the couch & she takes my spot with “Auntie” Kim on the king size bed.  The leftover chicken fingers are a pretty good deal though.  “Uncle” Chris doesn’t mind!

As for the rest of Saturday not much happened.  Kim & I on the couch we rented the movie “War Dogs” based on a true story, a rated R story.  Lots of cocaine, weapons, swearing, & illegal smuggling.  Good/interesting movie but not for kids.

Today is shaping up to be a lazy day on the couch again.

When my Grandmother lost her battle with breast cancer on December 5th 1999, I was in my 3rd semester of Engineering at the U of R.  I was really lost at the time, totally missed a final on purpose.  I would drive 40 minutes away to Moose Jaw & blast their 3rd album, There is Nothing Left to Lose, which was released that November, all the way & back.

After her memorial the rest of my aunts, uncles, & cousins came to my parent’s house.  I didn’t know how to react.  I went to my room in the basement, put on headphones & blasted “I Mother Earth” the album “Blue Green Orange”.  That was the first big loss to me.  I was a mess at the time.

I guess all of this means that I mourn a death, tragedy by listening to music & other people deal with things their own way.  Whatever helps you in a rough situation & doesn’t bother anyone else.

As for Friday’s “Depression” post, well it can be any type of mental illness.  Talk to someone about it.  I can think of 8 or 9 people including myself that struggle with a mental illness.  Don’t be afraid or feel that no one will understand.  Don’t be afraid of taking whatever type of medication a doctor says you should try.  There are millions of people that will listen to you.  Please remember you’re not alone and you will likely need help from others, don’t feel embarrassed about asking for help.

FACEBOOK IS SLOWING DOWN AS IT TENDS TO DO THE CLOSER WE GET TO THE HOLIDAYS!  THIS BLOG WILL BECOME LESS FREQUENT IN THE NEAR FUTURE.

Anyone who has been reading this knows I’m very anti-cell phone.  I don’t have a problem with a cell phone really, it’s more with the way some people choose to use them.  If I’m at a concert & someone is taking a video in my line of sight to the stage, please DON’T do that.  I paid as much as you did to watch a concert.  Not through your 4” screen on your cell phone.  If you want to video a song or 2 go ahead, take 3 or 4 pictures.  Please learn that other people are there & not taking a video of the entire show like you are.  Ask people around you if you’re blocking their view of the stage.  If you want to sit at the show & text with someone the entire time, that’s fine.  I don’t understand why you’d pay for a ticket to chat with people who aren’t there, but if that’s what you want to do, that’s fine with me.  Everyone will use their cell phone differently.  Just please learn live show etiquette?  YOU have every right to use your phone as you choose, maybe make sure it’s not a distraction to others near you?

If I get a cell phone, I’ll likely use it differently than you do.  I’ll use it my way & you can use it your way.  If we are bothering others, we’d better ask if how we’re using it is a problem.  You’re told to turn off your phone in theaters before the movie starts.  I think that rule should be at any live venue as well?

This song below was voted to have the best guitar solo of all time?  No mention of “Free Bird” by “Lynyrd Skynyrd” in the top 10 of the reader poll by “Guitar Player” magazine.

I thought this was hilarious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

JUST BECAUSE IT’S HEAVY DOESN’T MEAN I LIKE IT?

I fell asleep to “Zac Brown Band” the album “Jekyll + Hyde” after listening to “The Tea Party” the album “Edges of Twilight”

I exercised to “Led Zeppelin” all of the studio albums & my 3 disc box set on shuffle, didn’t hear my favourite songs though. I did hear their biggest hit though “Stairway to Heaven”, good song I just find it overrated, I still like it though.

Here’s “Stairway to Heaven” for those who don’t know it?

Yes I like pop, rap, hip hop, jazz, some country, but mostly rock & metal. I only know of one person in my life that listens to metal & nothing else. I can’t do that, after a while it’s like “OK, stop screaming at me!” Variety is the spice of life? Take almost everything in small doses? That’s how I take my music. I don’t purchase rap or country music since I know it would be a waste of money since I’d rarely listen to it. Just not my go to music. As long as the individuals enjoy what they’re doing, that’s good enough for me! I don’t have to like it or buy it!

Look at that! The Toronto Blue Jays’ bats sort of woke up last night. It’s like they rolled over & said “5 more minutes mom” as they won 7-2 against the NY Yankees. I think that’s the first time they’ve scored more than 3 runs in a game? They’re only 9 games into the season though 151 games to go!

I’ve had more than enough of the USA’s Presidential campaign. Everything American is shoved down Canadians throats! If their still undecided, then they should miss out. The candidates are so close to making “Yo Mama” jokes at this point.

Reason 958 to not take your cell phone into concert. It bothers other people who’ve paid the same amount as you to actually want to watch the concert. I don’t hate cell phones, I would just like people to think before they video live performance/learn some concert etiquette.
