Yes, I was in Calgary with my dad to see Foo Fighters with The Struts opening for them.  This was my 5th time seeing Foo Fighters live.  2000, 2003, 2011, 2015, & now 2018.  I had just got “The Colour & the Shape” in 1998 or late 1997, so I didn’t go to Edgefest 1998.  Edgefest was a one day long touring festival of rock bands that went across Canada.  I went to the last touring Edgefest in 1999.  Saw Foo Fighters in 2000 at a similar festival organized by Our Lady Peace called “Summersault”.  This concert in 2018 was how I found out about ‘The Struts’.  I heard they were opening for Foo Fighters on this tour.  The Struts 2nd album will be available on iTunes & elsewhere on Friday, October 26th.  They remind me of Queen without the operatic parts.

We drove to Calgary on Monday, had Western Pizza for supper that evening, concert was Tuesday night.  We drove home Wednesday, mom wasn’t feeling very good, I took her ticket to see comedian Craig Ferguson at the Casino.  We basically stopped at my parents’ place place for a washroom break & left for the Casino.

Since the concert was postponed, ‘The Struts’ didn’t open & weren’t even there.  I was really looking forward to seeing them.  Well at least I got to see “Foo Fighters” for the 5th time in my life!  2000, 2003, 2011, 2015, & now 2018.  Kim & I had tickets to see them in 2008 in Saskatoon, but somebody got brain cancer & couldn’t go to the show.  My parents went to that show instead.

Dad’s ticket was his Christmas present for 2017.  We were in line for the doors to open at 6:00 pm.  Went in got our T-Shirts, some soft ice cream, & found our seats.  Exact same seats we had earlier this year for “Queens of the Stone Age”.  This was the last show of the tour, you could tell they were tired & rightfully so.  They played for 2 hours & 50 minutes roughly, they do that every show.  They played a minimum of at least one song from their 9 studio albums, a ‘Queen’ cover, ‘The Ramones’, Alice Cooper’, ‘Tom Petty’, & a mashup of the piano part of John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’ with the vocals of ‘Van Halen’s’ ‘Jump’.  It fits really well actually.  So 4 songs ASAP from the new album, and one song each from the previous 4 albums, 2 from “One by One”, 2 from “There is Nothing Left to Lose”, 3 from “The Colour & The Shape”, & one from their debut album.

The sound was poor at best.  Everything was too loud & the vocals were buried in the mix.  Everything was loud & distorted.  The opening band was a 3 piece band from the U.K. called ‘The Joy Formidable’, big letdown for me since I was really excited to see “The Struts”.  I guess I saved $30 since there were no ‘Struts’ T-Shirts.  Here’s a sample of what we heard from “Foo Fighters”……

LANGUAGE IN 2 OF THESE LINKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is with the singer of “The Struts”, in Calgary Dave Grohl played drums & sang while Taylor Hawkins went out front to sing his part.

Of course the show ended with “Everlong” as usual

Here’s a few songs by “The Struts”.  They remind me of “Queen” without the operatic parts….

From the new album out tomorrow.
