Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

Music from this weekend!  “Queens of the Stone Age”, “Metallica”, “Billy Joel”

Friday Kim got home from work & we went out for supper.  Brewster stayed at Sherry & James’ house.  They do that a LOT for us.  Brewster freaks out if he’s left alone, that doesn’t go over well with other condo owners here.  We went to Moxie’s.  I’m a BIG fan of their veggie Portobello mushroom burger!

Stayed in on Saturday.  Kim got some groceries.  We pretty much were lazy on the couch other than her getting groceries & making supper.  Then Netflix for the evening, into the 5th & final season of “The Fosters”.  I stayed up to watch “Blue Jays in :30”

Today there is a Saskatchewan Roughrider game on TV in Montreal & the final Blue Jays game of the season.  I’ll be parked on the couch while finding time to prepare some food for the week ahead & make a pitcher of vegetable juice also.  Kim was out taking family photos for friends of ours.

I really don’t like what stereotypical millennials are doing to EVERYTHING!  There are MANY exceptions to this though!  Millennials are said to be born after 1982, 1984, or 2000.  I was born in January 1980.  Maybe Trump as President has more to do with it?

Not many albums & not how I’d rank the Tool albums!

THE BEACHES

Brand new to me when I bought the album.  I heard, months ago that they played the Rogers Center/Skydome opening for Foo Fighters.  Dave Grohl actually calls a band & asks them “Hey, would you like to do a show or tour with us?”  I’d freak out if I could still play music & get a call from Dave Grohl.  No audition that I know of, he just hears the album & decides if he likes it or not.  New band on the rise, but only played the one show with Foo Fighters & then halftime shows at CFL stadiums in Ontario, I think.  One album called “Late Show” & I added the single “Give it up” to the album.  This is more like garage/indie rock, not my usual taste in music but I like this album each time I hear it & think to myself “I need to listen to this album more often”!

The more you share this, the more readers I get.  No, I’m not profiting from this in any way.

Weekly exercise total; 600 pushups, 300 tricep pushups, 175 back flexes, 360 squats, 600 leg lifts, 300 crunches.

I fell asleep to “Neil Young” a greatest hits album

I exercised to “Ben Folds Five” the album “Whatever & Ever Amen”

Yes, I exercise immediately every morning.  Unfortunately cardio is not a regular part of the regular routine.  By the time Kim gets home from work, I’m exhausted & more exercise is usually the furthest thing from my mind.  I’m not blaming anyone for this.  “I need somebody” to assist me so I don’t fall & crack my head open.

The morning exercises help immensely with my walking, which is always assisted & with a walker.  “I’m not satisfied” with my status quo.  I’m not afraid to pile on more exercise, I just need to kick myself in the butt & do more.

I don’t even like talking about this, but it happened.  I don’t want to make a BIG deal about this but it is a BIG deal.  I’d love eradicate racism.  That’s won’t happen with Trump, Un, & Putin in power.  I know I’ll catch crap for this, but it needs to be said.

Abbreviating the “N” word to “Nig” does NOT make it any less offensive.  It angers, saddens, & offends me that people have to deal with this garbage & that the person who said this is a distant blood relative of mine.

I’ll be the first one to tell you that I’m not perfect.  I’ve NEVER even considered using a racial slur at anyone!  My aunt would severely over tan, we were in a restaurant & I said “WOW you look like an Indian”!  I think everyone thought I was using a racial slur regarding the Aboriginal community and told me to quiet down.  WOW were they off.  What I meant is people from India.  How is this racist?  Indian, Canadian, American, African, Australian, Mexican, English, etc.  I find East Indian racist, why do I have to specify Indian as “East” Indian?  Teach me please, should I use another word?

Metal screaming isn’t just noise & not everyone can do it, me included!

“Coheed & Cambria”.  Their new album “The Unheavenly Creatures” – October 5th release date, has some catchy tunes on it.

“Nothing but Thieves” – What did you think made me this way? 4 song EP – October 19th

“Greta Van Fleet” – Anthem of the Peaceful Army, October 19th

“The Struts” – Young & Dangerous, out October 26th on iTunes

“Into Eternity” – The Sirens, out October 26th on iTunes & more importantly www.bandcamp.com the money spent on www.bandcamp.com sends the majority of the proceeds go directly to the band members!

“Tenacious D” – Post Apocolypto, November 2nd on iTunes

“Muse” – Simulation Theory, November 9th on iTunes

No I don’t have all of these on preorder from iTunes.  I have 4/8 on preorder.  I hope to purchase a CD at a future “Into Eternity” show.  I’m holding out on “Tenacious D” since the previous album was more about vulgarity than anything else.  I’m going to wait until November for “Coheed & Cambria”.  I have a TON of music coming to me in October.

I just read a bit about another album release in October 26th, another one I’ll wait for until November.  My limit for October & November is at it’s capacity.

“Chevelle” – 12 Bloody Spies B – Sides & Rarities, October 26th full release date.

That’s it for iTunes purchases for me this year.  Gotta start with the Christmas Gifts, & probably delay more purchases on iTunes this year.

I fell asleep to “Dead Sara” the album “Pleasure to Meet you”

I exercised to “Big Wreck” the album “Grace Street”

I had breakfast to “Bruce Springsteen” the album “Born in the USA”

Great weekend & needed break at the cabin, then Monday came.  I did 5/6 exercises, I might scale it down to 4 but we’ll see?  Of course Tuesdays & Thursdays will be the other exercise(s).  One weekend of an actual break from exercise & scenery worked wonders for me!  I need to do that more often!

Yes, we watched the Saskatchewan Roughrider game on TV at the cabin.

I always listen to music, but especially when I bummed out.  Cut out all of the non-sense around me & dive into the music.  I guess “Lzzy Hale” of “Halestorm” does the same?

ALTER BRIDGE CONCERT BLU-RAY

Alter Bridge released their first studio album of now 5 in total back in 2004.  When I heard the singer’s voice, I knew it sounded REALLY good & very familiar.  Yes, the 3 other guys are the guitarist, drummer, & bassist from the band ‘Creed’.  I still listen to the first ‘Creed’ album, but not very often.  The singer’s name is Myles Kennedy.  I realized, after my time in the hospitals, that he was in a band called “The Mayfield Four”.  I saw them in 1999 or 2000 when they opened for “The Watchmen” & “Big Wreck”, I then figured out that he sang inaudible backing vocals on “Big Wreck’s” 2nd album on the song “Breakthrough”

I found the first Mayfield 4 album & the 2nd album is available on iTunes.  Myles Kennedy is now the singer for “Slash feat. Myles Kennedy & the Conspirators”.  I bought one Slash album on iTunes & I just never have the desire to listen to it, despite the FANTASTIC vocals from Myles.  Here’s a track from each of “The Mayfield Four” albums.  I’ll follow them up with a few tunes from the blu-ray of “Alter Bridge” but keep in mind the orchestra is much more prevalent in a surround mix.

NOW THE ALTER BRIDGE BLU-RAY

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

Went to the cabin this weekend since my parents will begin closing it for the winter (it’s not winterized).  My parents, my brother & Rachel, myself & Kim were all out there.  Mitch & Rachel came out Saturday morning.

We watched an older football movie Friday, it was a cold weekend with some rain & sleet there.

Saturday the 6 of us were just hanging out.  Watched the Saskatchewan Roughrider game in the afternoon while beginning the pickling of our livers.  Had supper, played cards.  Stopped our card game to visit with my cousin & her parents, who have a cabin out there as well.

I tried some sipping Bourbon.  As with anything but red wine, I liked the bourbon, quite tasty.  Mitch & Rachel found some ‘Pumpkin Spiced Baileys’ quite tasty!

Good weekend & a lot of fun!  Nice break from being here staring at the same 4 walls!

WOW, that’s blind loyalty!!!!!!!

I could care less if you’re a Republican or a Democrat, in this situation all I need to know is are you a decent person?  I’m in Canada & I could care less about Canadian politics.  Russia got to vote in the American election yet the USAs neighbor to the north didn’t, how is that OK?

Is this something an organization would say if they were selling tickets to scalpers?

BEN HARPER

I don’t have a clue about this man.  I do have 8 of his albums though.  He’s always playing either as a solo artist or Ben Harper & _____________ The Innocent Criminals, The Blind Boys of Alabama, The Relentless 7, or just as a solo artist.  He sings while playing slide guitar (mostly) in a chair with the guitar on his lap.  I really like the Gospel album he made with “The Blind Boys of Alabama”!  As usual I’ll dive right into the music….

1995   FIGHT FOR YOUR MIND

1999   BURN TO SHINE

2003   DIAMONDS ON THE INSIDE

2004   THERE WILL BE A LIGHT

As a brain cancer survivor, I find that I have less energy than others who haven’t had brain cancer.  I can’t speak for others who have had different types of cancer & yes, I know more people who have had cancer than most people think, & I don’t know who was in the Wascana Rehabilitation Center for cancer related issues.  Either way that really isn’t my story to tell.

I know that not everyone wants to blab about their personal brush with cancer whether they’ve had it or know someone who has.  This blog wasn’t my idea, it’s meant to keep people up to date on my recovery & I agreed to it, I hope someone will benefit or is benefitting from this?

This is supposed to help with my hands, I find that I tend to use my index finger & thumb on each hand.  My left hand is useless & really isn’t steady at all to this day.

I had absolutely no energy or get up & go in me this week.  I was tired & sore, it was time to listen to my body.  So the exercise total is pitiful at best, for me.  I expect a TON more out of myself.

5 day weekly total; 200 pushups, 0 tricep pushups, 50 back flexes, 200 leg lifts, 100  crunches, 120 squats.

Music from the week; “Finger Eleven”, “Dead Sara”, “Halestorm”, “Megadeth”, “Metallica”, & “Coldplay”.

Release on Friday, October 26th.  New album from “The Struts” (2nd album) & “Into Eternity” (6th album)

I’m going to hold off on the “Into Eternity” album & hopefully get it at a show in town.  You can find it on www.bandcamp.com for $15 as well.

My opinion on this subject tends to be met with fierce aggression.  You have right to your opinion as much as I do.  You can call me any name you like & I will gladly feed the rope!

You’d think a band like “Lamb of God” would be rich, you’re totally wrong!  They play multiple sold out venues every year all over the world, no not every show is sold out.  They record, they tour & what is there biggest source of income?  Merchandise that they’ve paid for to sell at their shows.  Not album sales, not streaming sites, not tour tickets, MERCHANDISE.  Think of how many people they have to pay for a concert or recording an album.

They go home to Virginia & do normal stuff, I’ve got it on video.  Fix/build a deck, cook, race cheap almost dead cars, go to a chili cook-off, etc.  What a lavish lifestyle for musicians of this century!  Just because it’s legal doesn’t mean it’s right.  Go ahead, drink more of the punch!  If you think that’s rude, you deemed it that way.  My opinion is that streaming music is terrible at best.  Wait until I tell you how I really feel!  Might as well chain smoke tobacco & become an alcoholic.  They’re both legal too, & they’ll kill you………..literally!  Ah crap, you have to pay for them, well that’s out of the question then?  Yes I drink, not in excess.  3 drinks tops on a Friday, & 3 on a Saturday.  If it’s a special occasion, only until I’m just a wee tipsy.

I only bring this up because iTunes are phasing out music downloads to compete with streaming site Spotify.  Both streaming services pay a very low amount to any musician.  CDs & downloads are said to be gone by the end of March.  I use iTunes for music mostly, & renting movies on occasion.  With music downloads going away, I’m not sure if I’ll use the original iPhone we have in a drawer without activating a number to it or if I’ll start a vinyl collection?  I know what I’d like to do, but that’s not financially realistic in my/our situation.

Do you have a laptop, iPad, or iPhone?  If so, did you have a desktop computer before?  If yes, thanks from Apple, you’ve given them a TON of money because they have convinced you that an outrageously overpriced phone is needed.  The only difference between all of these gadgets is that a phone makes phone calls & texts.

Before I get any fiery backlash regarding this.  This is not aimed at any individual.  If I wanted this to be private I’d email that person!

Let’s all bow down to millennials with an attention span of 1 second.  You don’t like a 3 hour baseball game or a 3 hour CFL game?  Great enjoy a 4 hour NFL game!  Remember the 6 second videos?  They were too long for a typical millennial’s attention span, so they shortened it to a 1 second video.  Well that was dumb!

I feel like the last one at the bar, searching for something that’s already gone.  Wait, I figured it out in a stroke of absolute GENIUS!  If I stream music for as long as said streaming site is operational, when they get shut down & they likely will, since only vinyl has stood the test of time, the streaming site has to let me keep what I’ve chosen to stream.  When a magazine goes out of business, they don’t take away previous publications.  My sister-in-law & brother-in-law have MOUNTAINS of older magazine publications.

Please clue me in on this?  Am I up the creek without a paddle or am I correct in thinking this?

Despite all of this why do previous musicians get to make more cash than current musicians?  Everybody is making more money due to inflation except musicians who are making less.  WHY?

ELVIS COSTELLO & THE ATTRACTIONS

All I have is a greatest hits album of theirs.  This is the other Elvis that nobody talks about.  He’s a very good singer/songwriter who is also probably a really good front man.  He’s English I believe & is married to Canadian jazz artist Diana Krall from the west coast of Canada in British Columbia.

The more you share this, the more readers I get.  No, I’m not profiting from this in any way.  I can’t tell who’s reading this but thank you!

My mind it says yes, but my body says no “What do you mean?”

Yes I referenced Justin Bieber, who I don’t own but it is catchy tune.  I do own a TON of “Walk off the Earth”.

My body is sore & tired.  I did my exercises on Monday.  Woke up Tuesday & knew instantly it wasn’t going to happen.  Maybe tomorrow or Friday, we’ll see?  It’s disappointing, but it’s needed.  It almost feels like I might be catching a cold but I’m not.  I felt like I might be catching one a couple of weeks ago.  After drinking a few liters of water, I was fine.

Writing this & watching TV, blu-rays or just listening to music is how I fill my days.  I do watch/listen to too much CNN though.

I had some time this week & watched the “Alter Bridge” blu-ray with the Parallax orchestra.  If possible, switch it to surround on the opening menu.  If you listen/watch it in stereo, you’ll be waiting for the orchestra to start since you can’t really hear them in the stereo mix.  Other than that, I give it an A+!  I’ll review it later, probably next week?

Tenacious D have an album coming out on November 2nd, along with an animated www.youtube.com series, featuring songs from the album, beginning on Friday, September 28th.  I’m going to hold off since their last album “Rize of the Fenix” didn’t do much for me.

OH, SNAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  They’ve set a high bar with their last album as Lamb of God, can they top “Sturm Und Drang”?  I’m confident they can, even after the cover album under the name of “Burn the Priest”.

Really?  We need another ‘Grinch’ movie?  November 2nd in theaters.

Fair enough, the Jim Carrey one didn’t do anything for me.  I’ll watch the original on TV & see if this one is decent?

JEFF BUCKLEY

He made one REALLY FANTASTIC album.  Story I read was he drowned years ago at the age of 27.  He went swimming in a river he had swam in many times before.  I think his tour manager was with him on the shore?  Apparently a current got him, pushed him far down the river & eventually pulled him under?  That’s the story I heard anyways.  This was in 1997.  According to the autopsy, no drugs or alcohol were found in his system.  His only album “Grace” was released in 1994.  This guy has a phenomenal voice….

Do you have a question about stage 4 brain cancer?  Ask if you do!

Music throughout the weekend. “Alice in Chains”, “The Pretty Reckless”, “Halestorm”, & “Dead Sara”

LANGUAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got a new water bottle a few weeks ago that hold 1 liter of water.  I have dry mouth.  If I don’t have something to drink or sugarless gum to chew on.  I drink a minimum of 3 liters of water a day if not 6 liters a day.  If I’m going somewhere that evening, I keep it at 3 liters.  Most days it’s 4 or 5 liters then I’ll go to the washroom once or twice in the middle of the night.  I usually chew sugarless gum at the Saskatchewan Roughriders games!

We stayed in again Friday night.  Watched the Toronto Blue Jays lose……..again to the New York Yankees 11-0 or 12-0, I can’t remember?  Then we binge watched 3 episodes of “The Fosters” on Netflix.

Saturday we binge watched more of “The Fosters” during the day.  I went to a Saskatchewan Roughriders game vs. the visiting Ottawa Redblacks.

Dear Saskatchewan Roughriders,

The game clock started 56 minutes ago.  I’d like to see you demonstrate an offensive touchdown instead of relying on special teams & your field goal kicker?

Sincerely,

Me.

How disrespectful is that?????????????????????????????????????

Or you could just get a decent amplifier.  Guitar players are always searching for the perfect tone.  Guess what, it’s very hard to find, unless you’re lucky!  Find an amp that you’re 80% happy with.  Then there’s no need for any type of distortion pedal.  The guitar & amp are far more important than effect pedals, especially distortion & reverb pedals!

I have different bands, but that’s basically my shirt collection along with a few golf shirts & long sleeve shirts!

Certainly not my list “Rush”, “Tool”, “Led Zeppelin” & “Lamb of God” so far down the list?  I’ve never seen “Rush” or “Led Zeppelin” live.  From the many acts, rock & metal acts, I have seen live.  “Tool” & “Queen” would be at the top of my list.  I did see “U2” in ’99 or 2000, they were AMAZING!  They couldn’t be on a metal & hard rock list though.

http://loudwire.com/top-hard-rock-metal-live-acts/

“Beck” preforms with “Gary Glitter” playing Garry Glitter’s 1979 hit “Cars”

Went to see “The Meg” with my brother.  Have you seen “Jaws” from the 1970s?  Either way, watch that for a shark movie.  Rachel wasn’t feeling great & stayed home.  Kim didn’t want to see the movie.  We went to my parents’ place for supper & met up with Kim there.

The Meg, we expected it to be a little loopy, my brother prefers “Deep Blue Sea” to “The Meg”.  I’ll leave it at that.  I did notice the odd nod to “Jaws” though.  Fun action movie though, not much more to it.

PENTATONIX

They have 9 albums out including the 3 Christmas albums.  They’re a 5 part vocal harmony group.  The majority of their stuff is all vocals with no instruments.  I think I’ve heard instruments in 2 or 3 songs, but it’s hard to tell.  They only have one full album of original material.  I’d like more of that but I can also see how that would be difficult in A Capella.  I don’t count the Christmas albums in any type of review but here’s a sampling of the other 6 albums….

2012    PTX. VOL.I EP

2014   PTX. VOL.II EP

2014   PTX. VOL.III EP
