Not much music news here today. I pretty much avoided my computer this weekend. Too busy celebrating my 36th birthday. Yes, I am officially closer to 40 than I am to 30. I don’t feel older mentally, just that my body doesn’t agree with my brain.

12 of us Saturday night here including Kim & I. Beer, water, rum, wine, etc., munchies, pizza & cup cakes. Beer’s gone but Kim replenished my liquor & gave me an iTunes gift card. Does that mean she’s encouraging my habit?

I hope everyone enjoyed the old man celebration? We went for lunch at my parents place for a family birthday celebration. Christmas morning “Wife Saver”, carrot cake, pecan pie & a snazzy blue Toronto Blue Jays jersey. No name, I’m bad luck. If I get the name of any current athlete on any team, it’s a guarantee they will be traded or cut from the roster. Now I just get blank jerseys or a retired athlete’s name on the back.

Great weekend, with great people!

1168 albums in my iTunes at the moment only a dozen or so I haven’t listened to, that I’ve borrowed from friends with a similar taste in music.

Thank you Phil Anselmo (former singer of Pantera), we don’t need anymore hatred/racism in the world! Stop please!

Interview with Lzzy & Joe of “Halestorm”

Mr. Ian Fletcher Thornley on instagram

I was watching “Prime Time Sports with Bob McCown” on Friday. Every Friday there’s a round table discussion with 3 or 4 other broadcasters they were talking about some trade rumours they had heard floating around 2 Blue Jay players. The $20 million a year short stop they got at the trade deadline in July of last year & the center fielder Kevin Pillar $700,000 a year. They won’t get anything for Pillar, he has just finished his first full season in the big league & he’s 26 or 27 years old, right at the beginning of his career peak. His salary is non negotiable for 3 years. The short stop, Troy Tulowitzki, is in his mid-30s, making $20 million a year. I have nothing against him. He seems like a great fit, his defense is top notch & although we didn’t see it last year, he is able to hit 20-25 home runs. I say trade Tulowitzki, a no brainer for me. They have Ryan Goins at the age of 23 or so, young & his glove is the best I’ve seen since the first hall of fame Blue Jay player Roberto Alomar. They lost their 2nd baseman to injury early last year, Goins played the bulk of the year at 2nd. He’s young & came up through the Blue Jays minor league system & he likely wont make over a million dollars for a few years. Their 2nd baseman left because of injury last year. At that time he was the leading rookie in almost every category. He’ll miss the first 4 weeks of this season. That being said, they have other people that can fill that role in the meantime. I like Tulowitzki, he’s just a high price when you take into consideration that Jose Bautista & Edwin Encarnacion both have only this year left on their contracts & will likely be asking for at least $20,000,000 a year for each of them. So why not trade Tulowitzki, get a decent pitcher & a decent catcher in return. Decent, not top dollar, a back up catcher, & a middle of the starting rotation pitcher, a number 3-5 out of 5 pitchers. FYI Goins is a natural short stop.

I fell asleep & woke up to “Dream Theater” the album “The Astonishing”. I waited until shortly after 10:00pm & got it then went to bed. It’s not your typical “Dream Theater” with 9 songs averaging 10 minutes in length. Double album 34 songs in total & most songs are 4 minutes long. The longest is almost 8 minutes. There was a lot more orchestral music on it also. I’d say it’s a really good album!

I exercised to “Eve 6” all 4 albums on shuffle.

Exercise total for the week! 40 leg lifts om my back, 40 leg lifts on my hands & knees, 150 squats, 120 pushups, 1260 crunches, 580 meters walking one day no rest periods. Did I enjoy it? No, but you do what you gotta do! When we were going to the field house on a flat surface I do 800 meters with 2 rest periods. After the first 200 meters then after the following 400 meters, then I’d finish up with the last 200 meters. This doesn’t count the long side walk into & out of the building. Our parking garage has slops for the drain. It’s not a flat surface.

I go to www.youtube.com to share these links & if they’re brand new it tells me to not embed them? This musician doesn’t want me to promote their new song, video, or album? Why is it on www.youtube.com then? Police are going to arrest me because I shared a link? Either way, you’re welcome.

I was fine Monday, I’ve been tired all week since Tuesday morning. I would have liked to have just sat on my butt all week, that never happens unless I declare a break.

I don’t watch much NHL at all because most people watch it for the fighting & big body checks. Nobody wants to see this happen to any official in any sport. Really how idiotic is this? It happened on Wednesday, January 27th. If I was commissioner of the league “Bye, you’re done FOREVER”. I saw this as a highlight on Sportsnet.

I think I’m on a “Dream Theater” kick…….poor Kim!

When Kim’s at work I play my music & watch my TV or Movies that she doesn’t care for. Takes me about a week to watch a movie though. Exercise, Brewster & whatever else take priority.

I don’t see myself as physically handicapped. Probably because I can be very stubborn. A few years ago I would agree that I was physically handicapped. Yes, I need assistance with certain things, as time goes by though, there are fewer things I need help with.

Kim was helping me walk last night. We put Brewster in our parked vehicle in the parking garage, he’s like having a child, in that he can’t be left alone. I was waiting in the lobby for Kim to come back from putting Brewster in the vehicle. In the meantime I struck up a conversation with another person about the age of Kim & I, maybe a bit younger? She was also in a wheelchair. We didn’t speak for long, our parking spot isn’t too far away at all. I asked “Can I ask what put you in a wheelchair?” She replied & said “Car crash”. We didn’t speak much after that because of limited time.

What I took away from that conversation was that anyone’s life can change in a millisecond from anything. Be it winning the lottery, starting off in a new school, getting off a plane somewhere you’ve never been before, being diagnosed with any life threatening disease or being involved in any accident, etc. Life is whatever you make of it. You’re born & you’ll die. Everything in between is up to you.

Ah, “Suits” back for another season! It was on Bravo last night, a pleasant surprise from our DVR. We watch too much TV as it is, but I missed that show more than I thought.

Broken bones will heal. Words can hurt, especially if the victim has a good memory & tends to dwell on such things. Swearing is just words, I don’t mind them, they’re words with no meaning for me. I’m not going to use them since the entire world has labeled them as bad. If you’re offended by profanity, that’s fine…………..I get it. You’re the one who has defined it as a bad word, not me. This may seem odd to many but if you want to hurt ME in particular, swearing has little to no effect on me.

I fell asleep to “I Mother Earth” the album “Scenery + Fish”

I Mother Earth is marking this year as the 20th anniversary of “Scenery + Fish” playing the entire album front to back & some other stuff!!!!! “Scenery + Fish” was their break through album, their 2nd of 4 albums released when I was 16 years old. It went triple platinum in Canada! This also marks 20 years since they played in Saskatchewan. I saw them at the age of 16 in Saskatoon on the tour for this album!

Hi everyone…yes been a bit quiet around here lately. That is about to change. 2016 is shaping up to be a pretty cool year for us and we just wanted to tell you a bit of what’s going on. This year is actually the 20th anniversary of our 2nd album, Scenery & Fish. That album did some pretty damn good things for us and took us around the world. It went triple platinum here in Canada, with four singles released from it. That shit just doesn’t happen anymore. So… we thought we’d celebrate a little. We’re hitting the road with S+F 20 Celebrating 20 years of Scenery & Fish. We’re going to play the whole album front to back as well as a bunch of other stuff to round the night out. A nice long evening with your pals, The Mothers. We have other announcements to come that fall under the S & F umbrella so please stay tuned…We’ve been busy. Anywhoo, here are the first couple of shows announced, more to come. Yell if you want us. Friday April 22, O’Brian’s Event Centre, Saskatoon. Saturday April 23, Casino Regina, Regina”

Nickelback” start work on new album.

Yes, I know it’s the “in” thing to hate “Nickelback”, what’s the point though? How about just don’t listen to them. I’m not a fan either. I like “Foo Fighters”, “Big Wreck”, “Alter Bridge”, “Tool”, etc. There’s likely at least 5 haters for every fan of these bands.

Top 10 important rock albums. I don’t necessarily listen to all of these, but I’d have to agree with this list. You could easily add more. The BIG ones for me are Nirvana, Radiohead, & Led Zeppelin! Just the “Physical Graffiti album from Led Zeppelin. Why aren’t the Rolling Stones on here?

I always get these 2 songs messed up. Just because they both have “rain” in the title. No Slayer’s not one of them.

Top Gun sequel is being discussed.

When I was younger I watched figure skating. Mens figure skating, almost always Kurt Browning & Elvis Stojko. At the end of their routine they’re judged by 5 or 6 judges for the technical aspect & then the artistic aspect. Technical aspect sure, did they do the right things at the right time, was each jump accurate, did they fall, etc.? That’s fine, maybe stop at that point. Nope??!! Artistic judgment? Here’s the points for pretty part. Were the costumes good, did the skating have a nice flo to it, etc. Right there 6 people are judging them based on personal perspective………WHY? I’m not a fan of rap or country music……..WHY? Personal perspective, a subjective matter. There’s even metal groups I wont touch because it’s just not what I want to hear. Even when I put my iPod on at night I’ll go through 3 or 4 artists/albums to find what I want to hear at the moment, it’s not “Slayer” or “Lamb of God” 24 hours a day? Maybe it’s “Jack Johnson”, “Ben Harper”, “Harry Connick jr.”, “Nat King Cole, “Elvis Costello”, etc. So why is main stream music shoved down everyone’s throat? It’s not, maybe you’re looking in the wrong place? A TON of the music I like isn’t mainstream & likely won’t get any airtime on AM or FM radio. I look elsewhere!

After a decade, “Tool” can’t release anything but a FANTASTIC/AMAZING album. Which isn’t really difficult for them according to their loyal fan base.

Today’s exercise was brought to you by “Dream Theater” the album “Black Clouds & Silver Linings”

I fell asleep to “Smashing Pumpkins” the album “Gish”. Listened to the entire “Megadeth” album but it didn’t do the trick. Same deal with the majority of the latest release by “Iron Maiden”

I really enjoyed the Rock It Out Blog. Sami & his team turned me onto “Chromeo”. I wouldn’t even know they existed without hearing about on his blog. I’ve never heard of them since, but I heard them on that blog & it kind of woke me up to different music that’s out there. I didn’t agree with everything on the Rock It Out Blog, but it gave me a well needed update. “Hey there’s a TON of other stuff out there & there’s no harm in taking a peek at what’s out there”. Worst thing that could happen, I take 5 minutes to see if I like something I’d never heard of before. I don’t necessarily like the 3 previous “Chromeo” albums but the album “White Women” was the most sugary pop album I had ever heard, & I really like it! Consequence of Sound is still there with daily updates & this is just a hiatus for Sami, he’ll be back.

I’m gonna say it right now. Kim & I just rented “Straight Outta Compton”. The only movie I’ve heard about, which is (I think) nominated for an Oscar is “The Martian”. Did you see “Armageddon”? Did you see “Gravity”? Both seemed VERY similar to me, the story line at least. Somebody is left alone in space. I like Sandra Bullock & Matt Damon, “Good Will Hunting” instantly became one of my favourite movies. I don’t really need/want to see “The Martian”, it sounds like the same story line again. Somebody’s left alone in space. I’ve heard about “The Revenant” too, I think it was released too late for the Oscars? Why was “Straight Outta Compton” left out? Because it’s subjective & the Academy are the only people that get to vote. I’m with the guy on “Weekend Update” on SNL, choose movies that people have heard of, & have scene. I don’t need to hear about the artsy fartsy stuff nobody’s heard of!

I exercised to “Megadeth” the new album released today “Dystopia”

This weeks exercise total is 110 push ups, 840 crunches, ½ hour of yoga, 120 squats, 800 meters of walking w/ Kim & my walker 200 one day, 600 Thursday (no rest periods), 40 leg lifts on my hands & knees also 40 on my back! As I look at that, even I’m impressed?!

The arena in Regina holds 7,129 for concerts (including the floor area). Saskatoon’s arena holds 15,195 (not including the floor) 2.5 hours north of Regina. Moose Jaw’s arena holds 5,000+ including the floor, 45 minutes west of Regina!

Motley Crue with opener Big Wreck went on tour last year & when they came to Saskatchewan they played in Moose Jaw. Why? I’m sure they could draw a much larger audience, go to Saskatoon if there is no event planned for that day? I’ve been to Saskatoon more than I care to count. Regina’s arena does not sound good with a musical act. We saw “Ed Sheeran” last year here in Regina. It’s him playing acoustic guitar & a digital foot pedal to fill out the “band”. The second he turned the foot pedal on the sound was VERY distorted in an awful way. The arena in Regina is well known for bad sound at a concert. Regina’s the Capital of Saskatchewan, but to see a big name act we either drive out of the Province to Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg or in the Province to Saskatoon, or now Moose Jaw. We have few smaller venues with capacity of 300-1000. I haven’t been to Moose Jaw’s arena, but the drive to Saskatoon is getting really old!

Same thing happened when Phil Collins announced that he finally got his back issues under control through surgery allowing him drum again. He’s planning on coming out of retirement to play. An online petition against THAT showed up.
I’m going to go ahead and avoid the Kanye covers but I’ll be damned if I sign a petition against him making his music. It’s arrogant to pretend that any kind of petition would stop anyone from creating anyway. That’s not how the creative process works. You can’t just petition away all the music you happen to disapprove of.
I know what we do: let’s start a petition to stop petitions that stifle artists creativity. More music for everybody! Boom. Issue resolved!”

“Lamb of God” & “Anthrax” members do stormtroopers music!

Dave Mustaine speaks about 2 songs on the “Megadeth” album out tomorrow.

Munenori Kawasaki may have been a bench player, but I think his defense will be missed as well as his attitude. He would usually be on the field a ½ hour before the other players. I don’t like this move by the Blue Jays, it doesn’t make sense to me. I’m not a part of the organization for a reason though.

There’s too many people dying can we please just let them R.I.P.?

“Radiohead” will tour this year. I guessing they won’t much if anything from their 2nd or 3rd album “The Bends” 1995 or “OK Computer” 1997?

Chris Stapleton & Hank Williams jr. to share summer tour

I don’t know much about country music. Not really my thing, yet I’m married to a devoted country music fan?

In this case I’d have to say Donald Trump is more entertaining! Donald shows up, Axl……..not so much!

Yes, I fall asleep to music & listen to a song when I wake up. I’m on my 3rd iPod, not certain if I’m up for the iPod touch which is less gigabytes than my current iPod classic. Sure it does pretty much everything other than work as a phone, but I don’t need/want that. I just want an MP3/M4A player. I’ll be paying more for a 128gigabyte player when I send in my 160gigabyte player? Seems weird to me. I don’t have a camera for a reason! I don’t like putting on a fake smile & posing for a picture, so what gives me the right to do that to others. I feel awkward when anyone says “Hey, let’s take a photo to remember this”. I wonder what people did before 90% of the world had a “camera” in their pocket?Right they REMEMBERED things!

When you go to a movie what do they tell you to do with your cell phone? Turn it off! Why not have that said at any large gathering? Don’t the other individuals deserve the same courtesy? At a play, movie, library, class room, live event, concert, etc. Stop looking down to your hands, there’s something else happening right here at the moment. If you came to see me, I’m here, not on your phone, “What am I missing that’s SO important?”

I’ll give you a total of what & how many exercise’ I did this week on Friday. It looks more impressive that way. It looks pretty impressive even now!

Today’s exercise was brought to you by “The Agonist” 4 albums on shuffle.

Good to see that I’m not the only one with this negative opinion. In the end it’s subjective. On the Facebook page it reads “We’re waiting Lars” as in Lars Ulrich of Metallica. Bahahahaha!
